RICHIE FAULKNER: 'It's Not My Decision To Make' Whether K.K. DOWNING Will Be Involved In JUDAS PRIEST's 50th-Anniversary Tour
JUDAS PRIEST guitarist Richie Faulkner says that it's his bandmates' call as to whether they want to include K.K. Downing in their upcoming 50th-anniversary celebrations.
Earlier today, Downing revealed that he recently reached out to JUDAS PRIEST "to gather their thoughts" on the possibility of him participating in the 2020 tour marking the band's half-century milestone. According to the guitarist, his former bandmates were "not receptive" to his involvement in the trek and they "do not intend to include" him in the 50th-anniversary tour.
As could be expected, Downing's revelation caused an uproar with PRIEST fans, many of whom feel that a PRIEST anniversary tour will not be legitimate without K.K.'s participation.
"What?!!! @judaspriest Are you serious?" one fan wrote on Twitter. "Don't be bastards es BLACK SABBATH with Bill Ward. Be gratefull don't be fucking idiots."
The fan then tagged Richie and added: "Richie please be good and try to change the point of view to the boys."
In response, Faulkner wrote: "As I've said before Elkin, it's not my decision to make. I don't have a 50 year relationship like they do. It's their call"
Downing left PRIEST in 2011 amid claims of band conflict, shoddy management and declining quality of performance. He was replaced by Faulkner, nearly three decades his junior.
In a recent interview with Dean Delray's "Let There Be Talk" podcast, Faulkner was asked if he has had any direct contact with Downing since he joined PRIEST. "We've gone backwards and forwards on Twitter and a couple of e-mails, and what have you, but I've never met him," Richie said. "He's always been cordial. There have a couple of things on Twitter — a couple of misunderstandings and stuff like that, which is just the nature of the Internet."
Richie went on to say that he doesn't feel it's appropriate for him to weigh in on the relationship between his bandmates and Downing, who has been vocal about his dissatisfaction over the fact that he wasn't invited to rejoin PRIEST when Glenn Tipton announced his retirement from the road nearly two years ago.
"When it comes to K.K., it's not my thing — it's their thing," Faulkner said. "They've got a relationship with him for 40, 50 years, and it's their deal — it's out of my hands. Personally, I wish it would be different. But it is what it is. And, as I said, it's out of my hands, really. He was cordial to me, as I said, over a couple of e-mails and Twitter posts, and I haven't got a problem with him. But, as I said, it's their relationship — it's their thing to deal with."
Asked how the guitar playing in PRIEST would be split if Downing was to return for the band's 50th-anniversary tour, Faulkner said: "I guess if he was in it, I don't think Ken would be playing my bits. I honestly couldn't tell you. I wouldn't know… I guess if Ken was there, he'd play his parts and I'd play my parts and then Glenn's parts, which is fine for me… But it's one of those things, man… I wish, personally, it had been a different outcome and everyone was getting on fine and Ken could come back and everyone was friends and we could do it for the last tour, the 50th anniversary, go out with a bang and Glenn can come back when [he is able to]. But that's not the way it worked out, unfortunately. But who knows? What will be will be. Again, that's out of my hands. As I said, it's not my relationship to have."
Last month, it was announced that JUDAS PRIEST is among the nominees for the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame's class of 2020. The top vote-getters will be announced in January and inducted May 2, 2020 at a ceremony at Cleveland's Public Hall.
Downing; Tipton; drummers Dave Holland, Les Binks and Scott Travis; singer Rob Halford; and bassist Ian Hill are on the ballot for JUDAS PRIEST.
Halford told Billboard in 2017 that he was not opposed to the idea of reuniting with Downing at the Rock Hall induction ceremony if they were to ever receive the honor. "Everything's on the table for anyone that's been associated with PRIEST in and out of the band," the singer said.

PHILIP ANSELMO's SCOUR Releases Cover Of BATHORY's 'Massacre'
SCOUR — the extreme metal unit featuring Philip H. Anselmo (PANTERA, DOWN, PHILIP H. ANSELMO & THE ILLEGALS, SUPERJOINT), John Jarvis (AGORAPHOBIC NOSEBLEED), Derek Engemann (PHILIP H. ANSELMO & THE ILLEGALS, ex-CATTLE DECAPITATION), Mark Kloeppel (MISERY INDEX) and Adam Jarvis (PIG DESTROYER, MISERY INDEX) — will release its long-anticipated "Black" EP (the third in a three-part series) next year via Housecore Records.
As a precursor to its release, the band is pleased to unveil a special Black Friday teaser with its scalding cover of BATHORY classic "Massacre". Fan-filmed video clip of the track, captured at various shows through the years, can be seen below.
Says SCOUR: "As we await the completion of SCOUR's next release, the 'Black' EP, enjoy our cover of BATHORY's 'Massacre'!"
SCOUR's "Massacre" cover was mixed and mastered by Dave Otero at Flatline Audio and will be streaming on all platforms and available for free download Black Friday, November 29 at the SCOUR Bandcamp page.
Additionally, SCOUR is commemorating the release with a limited-edition "Massacre" tribute shirt through Indiemerchstore for $16.66 with special code: BARGAINBIN. Grab yours today at this location.
Forged in 2015, SCOUR's debilitating fusion of black metal, grindcore, and thrash made its debut with the ferocious single "Dispatched". The band's debut EP, "Grey", was released the following year via Anselmo's own Housecore label. Just before a crushing performance at Hellfest, which featured a cover of the PANTERA classic "Strength Beyond Strength", the band recorded the "Red" EP at Nodferatu's Lair with Steve Berrigan (DOWN, PHILIP H. ANSELMO & THE ILLEGALS, EYEHATEGOD, HAARP, CLASSHOLE) at the helm. The record was mixed and mastered by Dave Otero at Flatline Audio and released in 2017. Reaping critical hails from fans and critics alike, the recording ranked among Revolver's 20 Best Albums Of 2017, with the esteemed publication noting, "ex-PANTERA frontman Phil Anselmo has dabbled in black metal intermittently for over two decades now with side projects like CHRIST INVERSION, VIKING CROWN, EIBON, and now SCOUR, his gnarled crew of battle-tested players from PIG DESTROYER, CATTLE DECAPITATION, and others. A six-track romp through buzzing infernos and sludgy hellscapes, the supergroup's second EP, 'Red', is Anselmo's finest black-metal hour to date — no corpse paint necessary."
Further details on the "Black" EP will be announced in the coming weeks.

K.K. DOWNING Says He Reached Out To JUDAS PRIEST About Participating In 50th-Anniversary Tour
Ex-JUDAS PRIEST guitarist K.K. Downing says that his former bandmates have no intention of including him in their upcoming 50th-anniversary tour.
Earlier this year, PRIEST announced that it will celebrate the half-century milestone with extensive touring in 2020, with a number of summer European festival dates already booked.
Downing, who co-founded PRIEST when he was still a teenager, addressed the possibility of his participation in next year's trek in a statement issued earlier today.
He said: "First of all, I want to once again express my huge appreciation to all fans worldwide for the overwhelmingly positive response to my Bloodstock appearance in August and the Wolverhampton gig in early November. I am truly humbled and grateful. I am also taken aback with the compelling fan outcry for me to participate in the JUDAS PRIEST 50th-anniversary celebrations next year. Consequently, I felt the right thing to do was to reach out to my former bandmates to gather their thoughts on this, and their response is they are not receptive to my participation in the band and they do not intend to include me in the 50th anniversary celebrations. However, the great news for the fans is that I will be continuing to forge ahead. I am looking very much forward to seeing you all on the road in 2020. Together we will take on the world."
Downing left PRIEST in 2011 amid claims of band conflict, shoddy management and declining quality of performance. He was replaced by Richie Faulkner, nearly three decades his junior.
Last year, Downing revealed that he sent two resignation letters to his bandmates when he decided to quit JUDAS PRIEST. The first was described as "a graceful exit note, implying a smooth retirement from music," while the second was "angrier, laying out all of his frustrations with specific parties."
Downing later said that he believed the second letter was "a key reason" he wasn't invited to rejoin PRIEST after Glenn Tipton's decision to retire from touring.
Last month, it was announced that JUDAS PRIEST is among the nominees for the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame's class of 2020. The top vote-getters will be announced in January and inducted May 2, 2020 at a ceremony at Cleveland's Public Hall.
Downing; Tipton; drummers Dave Holland, Les Binks andScott Travis; singer Rob Halford; and bassist Ian Hill are on the ballot for JUDAS PRIEST.
Halford told Billboard in 2017 that he was not opposed to the idea of reuniting with Downing at the Rock Hall induction ceremony if they were to ever receive the honor. "Everything's on the table for anyone that's been associated with PRIEST in and out of the band," the singer said.
Earlier this month, Downing played a one-off set of PRIEST classics alongside Binks, ex-PRIEST singer Tim "Riper" Owens and MEGADETH's David Ellefson in Wolverhampton, England.
Downing returned to the stage over the summer, joining former MANOWAR guitarist Ross The Boss for a four-song performance at the U.K.'s Bloodstock Open Air festival.
K.K.'s autobiography, "Heavy Duty: Days And Nights In Judas Priest", was released in September 2018 via Da Capo Press.

K.K. DOWNING On JUDAS PRIEST's ROCK HALL Nomination: 'It's Hard To Think Of Another Band That's Done More'
K.K. Downing says that it would be a "big thing" for JUDAS PRIEST to finally be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame at next year's ceremony.
Having been eligible for induction since 1999, JUDAS PRIEST was on the ballot for last year's class of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, but ultimately didn't clinch the nomination.
Last month, it was announced that JUDAS PRIEST is among the nominees for the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame's class of 2020. The top vote-getters will be announced in January and inducted May 2, 2020 at a ceremony at Cleveland's Public Hall.
Speaking to Danny Stoakes, Downing acknowledged that PRIEST fans were let down when the band wasn't inducted into the Rock Hall in 2018.
"I know that a lot of people expected us to get in last time," he said (hear audio below). "And I did hear that some of the people on the voting committee left because we didn't get in, 'cause they were so disappointed and stuff.
"I'm not exactly sure how the whole thing works myself, really," he continued. "I only know it's bloody hard to get in there. I know it took [BLACK] SABBATH a long, long time [to get in there] — didn't it? — as well. I've said it before, PRIEST has such a massive — over 50 years and the amount of albums and the work and shows that we've done. It's hard to think of another band that's done more, really."
Downing also recognized a couple of fellow heavy rock bands who are nominated for induction for the first time this year.
"THIN LIZZY and MOTÖRHEAD, they should be there — of course they should," he said. "They're absolute legends. Bands like that should be in already, really. But we only look at it from the rock and metal point of view, I suppose. 'Cause also we're up against a lot of artists from other genres — a lot of them I've never heard of. [Laughs]"
Downing went on to lament the fact that some of the artists — including MOTÖRHEAD's Lemmy and THIN LIZZY's Phil Lynott — are being nominated for the Rock Hall posthumously.
"We've got one member that's included in our nomination — Dave Holland — that's no longer with us," he said. "And I think Dave was 68 when he passed away. So it's just a little bit sad, really, to have such a great accolade and not be there to be able to at least know that you achieved that."
K.K. added: "I know to a lot of people in Europe it might not mean too much, but it is a big thing, really, the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame."
To be eligible for this year's ballot, each nominee's first single or album had to be released in 1994 or earlier.
A voter pool of more than 1,000 artists, historians, journalists and members of the music industry will select the new class. Fans will also have a chance to take part in the process by voting at RockHall.com or an interactive kiosk at the museum in Cleveland.
Downing, Holland, Les Binks, Rob Halford, Ian Hill, Glenn Tipton and Scott Travis are on the ballot for JUDAS PRIEST.
Halford told Billboard in 2017 that he was not opposed to the idea of reuniting with Downing at the Rock Hall induction ceremony if they were to ever receive the honor. "Everything's on the table for anyone that's been associated with PRIEST in and out of the band," the singer said.

JUDAS PRIEST's ROB HALFORD Says It's 'Truly Magical' To Be Able To Celebrate Band's Five-Decade History
In a recent interview with Full Metal Jackie's nationally syndicated radio show, Rob Halford reflected on JUDAS PRIEST's five-decade history which will be celebrated next year on a world tour. The singer said (hear audio below): "You tend to remember the early years more significantly. Because, as any band will tell you that's had the great joy of having a long life in music, those early years were… It's a struggle. You have to pay your dues — you have to play every bar, every club, every pub; anywhere you can plug in the amps, you do that. And then, 'We have some money, guys. Do we spend it on food or gas for the van? We've gotta get gas in the van.' That kind of thing. So to go from that place to this place, 50-odd million-plus records later, with 50 years to celebrate alongside it, is just truly magical."
Bassist Ian Hill is the sole remaining original member of JUDAS PRIEST. Halford joined JUDAS PRIEST in 1973 and guitarist Glenn Tipton signed on in 1974. Rob left PRIEST in the early 1990s to form his own band, then returned to PRIEST in 2003. Founding guitarist K.K. Downing parted ways with the band in 2011, and was replaced by Richie Faulkner.
A month before the start of PRIEST's "Firepower" tour, Tipton bowed out due to the worsening of his Parkinson's disease, first diagnosed five years ago (after being stricken by the degenerative condition at least half a decade earlier). His spot in the band is being filled by "Firepower" album producer Andy Sneap.
Downing said in October 2018 that all of PRIEST's living former and current members should be involved in the group's upcoming 50th-anniversary celebration.

Video: Former JUDAS PRIEST, MEGADETH Members Perform Heavy Metal Classics In Toronto
Vocalist Tim "Ripper" Owens (JUDAS PRIEST, ICED EARTH, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN), guitarist Glen Drover (MEGADETH, KING DIAMOND, TESTAMENT, EIDOLON), drummer Shawn Drover (MEGADETH, ACT OF DEFIANCE, EIDOLON) and bassist Adrian Robichaud (EIDOLON) joined forces to perform heavy metal classics under the A NIGHT OF METAL banner on November 9 at The Rockpile in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Video footage of the concert can be seen below (courtesy of YouTube user "JIM SYMINGTON").
In a recent interview with The Metal Voice, Owens stated about A NIGHT OF METAL: "It's the one time I tour that I'm not playing [songs from my era of JUDAS PRIEST]. People are, like, 'Play 'Burn In Hell',' or this, that and the other. Well, I tour solo non-stop, and I play those songs when I tour — I just got back from South America and I'm playing 'One On One' and 'Hell Is Home' and 'Burn In Hell'. But this set is just a fun set. We're going up there as 'A NIGHT OF METAL.' It's exactly what it says, when Shawn and Glen came up with that. It's the perfect name for us, because we're just jamming — we're having fun. We'll probably have a beer and get on stage."
A NIGHT OF METAL is:
Tim "Ripper" Owens (JUDAS PRIEST, ICED EARTH) - Vocals
Shawn Drover (MEGADETH, ACT OF DEFIANCE, EIDELON) - Drums
Glen Drover (MEGADETH, KING DIAMOND, EIDELON) - Guitar
Adrian Robichaud (EIDELON) - Bass
Owens recorded two studio albums with JUDAS PRIEST — 1997's "Jugulator" and 2001's "Demolition" — before the band reunited with Rob Halford.
Glen Drover left MEGADETH at the end of 2007 and was replaced by Chris Broderick, who previously played with NEVERMORE and JAG PANZER.
Shawn joined MEGADETH in 2004 as the replacement for Nick Menza, who had only just rejoined the group. Drover performed on four MEGADETH studio records: 2007's "United Abominations", 2009's "Endgame", 2011's "TH1RT3EN" and 2013's "Super Collider". | +2

THE WHO's PETE TOWNSHEND Explains Controversial KEITH MOON And JOHN ENTWISTLE Comments
THE WHO guitarist Pete Townshend has clarified his comments about the deaths of bandmates Keith Moon and John Entwistle, claiming that he was "being ironic" in his "own English way by suggesting it is something" he is "glad about."
In a recently published Rolling Stone interview, Townshend stated about Moon and Entwistle: "Thank God they're gone. Because they were fucking difficult to play with. They never, ever managed to create bands for themselves. I think my musical discipline, my musical efficiency as a rhythm player, held the band together."
In a lengthy statement on Facebook, Pete attempted to explain the controversial comment, saying: "No one can ever know how much I miss Keith and John, as people, as friends and as musicians. The alchemy we used to share in the studio is missing from the new album, and it always feels wrong to try to summon it up without them, but I suppose we will always be tempted to try. To this day I am angry at Keith and John for dying. Sometimes it shows. It's selfish, but it's how I feel."
Townshend added that he is "sincerely grateful" to have had the opportunity to carry on with THE WHO following the deaths of Moon and Entwistle. "I do thank God for this, but I was being ironic in my own English way by suggesting it is something I am glad about," he said. "I can be grateful to be free as a player and writer, but sad about losing old friends. It does feel ironic, and it also makes me angry. Towards the end of my mother Betty's life she drove me barmy, and there was a huge sense of relief when she finally passed, but I miss her very much. Love has so many facets."
The guitarist that said he understood that a lot of THE WHO fans would be "hurt by the way" his comments come across "as a headline," but added that he hoped they knew him well enough to understand that "the upside is missing in the headlines."
"The upside with Keith and John was that on tour and in the studio we had so much fun," he wrote. "Playing with them was hard, but both Roger [Daltrey, vocals] and I spent a lot of time doubled up in joy and laughter even though we could have benefitted from a quieter life sometimes. It was a riot."
He went on to apologize to Moon's and Entwistle's family members, saying that he "carelessly" provided the words that were used in the headlines. He added: "In the past three months, I have done so many interviews I am losing focus and patience. I forgive myself. I hope they can forgive me too. I loved their dads and still do.
"It's really poignantly painful to imagine how things would have turned out had John and Keith had also been allowed to become older, kinder and wiser," Townshend said. "THE WHO might have grown musically, or possibly just gone around in circles, but I assure you we would have deepened our love for each other as human beings and colleagues."
Moon was 32 years old when he died in 1978 from an overdose of clomethiazole, while while Entwistle passed away at 57 from a cocaine-induced heart attack in 2002.
THE WHO will release a new album, simply called "Who", on December 6.

ANNIHILATOR Releases 'Psycho Ward' Music Video
"Psycho Ward", the new video from Canadian thrash metal veterans ANNIHILATOR, can be seen below. The thought-provoking track centered on domestic violence is taken from the band's upcoming album, "Ballistic, Sadistic", on January 24, 2020 via Silver Lining Music.
Founding guitarist, vocalist, producer and principal songwriter Jeff Waters states about the song: "'Psycho Ward' takes us back to the musical vibe of 'Never, Neverland''s 'Stonewall' but with a drastically different lyrical theme: domestic violence and abuse. I've written quite a few songs on this subject since the '90s. But this song is the perfect combination of 'old-school' metal meeting the right lyrical and vocal delivery to get the point across. Enjoy, 'old-school' metal fans. Welcome, the new!"
Cited by bands in the likes of MEGADETH, PANTERA, DREAM THEATER, CHILDREN OF BODOM, LAMB OF GOD, OPETH, TRIVIUM and many, many more as having some influence on their music, Waters and his bandmates have continued to tour the world year after year while consistently putting out high-quality "true metal" music.
Written, performed, engineered and produced by none other than Waters himself, "Ballistic, Sadistic" was recorded at the brand new, state-of-the-art Watersound Studios UK in Durham earlier this year.
Waters says: "Almost every artist initially loves the songs they create. They are like your babies. In my case, it is difficult to be the main writer/producer and stay fresh, come up with new ideas or make old ones better and I am well aware of that. Since 'we' love what we do, we can be blinded to just how good or bad a song or record really is. Time will tell. Press, fans, band members, label, etc., they ALL will tell you what they think and, in their own ways, they are usually right. In this case, I throw that nonsense in the garbage and can tell you that we have made a record that is angry, technical, back to the first three records vibes and it is going to be difficult to continue writing another record after releasing this one. Best record I've made since 2005's 'Schizo Deluxe' and I think many will argue that this new one is in the top three. From the 'Stonewall'-esque track 'Psycho Ward' to the haunting 'I Am Warfare', the pissed-off 'The Attitude' to the aggression and old-school technicality of 'Out With The Garbage', the record is like this: take the 'Alice', 'Neverland' and 'Set The World On Fire' records, make them angry, combine the old-school production with modern high-tech studio gear, then add the best guitar work I didn't know I still had in me, and you've got the best we could possibly offer. I honestly cannot wait for everyone to hear this."

THE WHO's PETE TOWNSHEND On KEITH MOON And JOHN ENTWISTLE: 'Thank God They're Gone'
THE WHO guitarist Pete Townshend has said in a new interview with Rolling Stone that he doesn't miss the band's late drummer Keith Moon and bassist John Entwistle.
"It's not going to make WHO fans very happy, but thank God they're gone," he said. "Because they were fucking difficult to play with. They never, ever managed to create bands for themselves. I think my musical discipline, my musical efficiency as a rhythm player, held the band together."
Townshend said Entwistle's "bass sound was like a Messiaen organ," with "every note, every harmonic in the sky. When he passed away and I did the first few shows without him, with Pino [Palladino] on bass, he was playing without all that stuff … I said, 'Wow, I have a job.'"
The guitarist was equally brutal in his recollection of Moon, saying: "With Keith, my job was keeping time, because he didn't do that. So when he passed away, it was, like, 'Oh, I don't have to keep time anymore.'"
Townshend added: "Usually, I'm so unaffected by death. My mother, father, Keith Moon."
Moon was 32 years old when he died in 1978 from an overdose of clomethiazole, while while Entwistle passed away from a cocaine-induced heart attack in 2002.
In the Rolling Stone article, Townshend and singer Roger Daltrey are described as "detached, if not estranged, from each other," with the two giving interviews separately and staying in different hotels.
"If you watch Roger onstage, he goes through a lot of visual phases," said Townshend. "Sometimes, he can't stop himself looking over at me. It's irritation. It's irritation that I'm even there."
Toward the end of the interview, Townshend summed up THE WHO in the following way: "We're not a band anymore. There's a lot of people who don't like it when I say it, but we're just not a fucking band. Even when we were, I used to sit there thinking, 'This is a fucking waste of time. Take 26 because Keith Moon has had one glass of brandy too many.'"
THE WHO will release a new album, simply called "Who", on December 6.

JOSH HOMME On THEM CROOKED VULTURES: 'We All Want To Do Another Record'
Josh Homme says that he is open to making new music with THEM CROOKED VULTURES. The supergroup he formed more than a decade ago with LED ZEPPELIN's John Paul Jones and Dave Grohl (FOO FIGHTERS) released its first and only album to date in 2009 and toured extensively behind the LP, but hasn't performed live since November 2010.
In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Homme stated about THEM CROOKED VULTURES' inactivity: "The ironic thing is that we all want to do another VULTURES record and I think everyone has certain roles they play in the VULTURES, and in all honesty, I feel like part of Dave's role — since he got it together the first time by saying, 'Hey, do you wanna try this?' — I feel like that's part of in his job description in VULTURES. I have my various things that I'm supposed to do I think, but that isn't one of them. But I'm always ready to be in THEM CROOKED VULTURES again. I don't chase, you know?"
He added: "I think, ultimately, these things happen when they're supposed to, and I don't have much experience in forcing things to happen like that. When you're playing music, people come together because they want to and not from a sense of need or desperation. I think that's the best reason to come together."
Homme's comments come three months after Grohl told The Guardian that THEM CROOKED VULTURES is "technically still a band. We practice once every decade, and we're coming up on another decade, aren't we?" he said. "I don't have any official news but there's always something cooking."
In a 2017 interview with Beats 1, Grohl said that he and his THEM CROOKED VULTURES bandmates have talked about a possible reunion. "Every once in a while, you'll be up at night drinking a bottle of wine by yourself, and you'll watch some CROOKED VULTURES live thing on YouTube and go, 'We were so good!,' and then we'll text each other saying, 'Miss you, man!'," he said.
"Them Crooked Vultures" peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard chart, and failed to achieve gold or platinum certification.
"We all want to do another record," Homme said after the LP's release. "I don't know when that would be or if it's even gonna happen. ... I know the next record would be, like, 'sophomore jinx, my ass,' 'cause we know one another now. We were actually just hitting our stride in the studio when we knew we should stop. That was one of the main struggles. 'Dude, we're just getting going.' But we knew we shouldn't take too long. This stuff, if you're not careful, turns to vapor. We gotta live in the now."
Four years after THEM CROOKED VULTURES' last concert, Grohl told NME that he "would love to make another VULTURES record. I think our biggest hurdle is just a logistic one, that the three of us are all pretty busy," he said. | +4

MOTIONLESS IN WHITE Frontman Says DEE SNIDER Is 'The Ultimate Rock Star'
MOTIONLESS IN WHITE frontman Chris "Motionless" Cerulli says that being interviewed by Dee Snider for an episode of the TWISTED SISTER singer's "I Wanna Talk" podcast was a memorable experience.
"Dee is like the ultimate rock star in the best sense of the word," Chris told MA Entertainment Global during a recent interview (see video below). "He's just such a rad guy. He understands everything about this world inside out and backwards, and he's just such a mouthpiece for what we represent and such a leader and a pioneer for what we get to do now as a band. Just getting to talk with him on that real level was an opportunity I can't say I thought I would have in life."
Asked if he was a fan of TWISTED SISTER growing up, Chris said: "Oh, yeah. My parents were into TWISTED SISTER. I remember hearing all the singles and stuff, and seeing it on MTV, watching the videos of them kicking the guy out of the house. It was super cool."
Back in 2011, Snider was transformed into Biblical figure Pontius Pilate for MOTIONLESS IN WHITE's music video for the song "Immaculate Misconception", with Cerulli in the role of Jesus Christ.
MOTIONLESS IN WHITE's acclaimed new album, "Disguise", is available now at all DSPs. "Disguise" is highlighted by a series of singles, including "Brand New Numb", "Undead Ahead 2: The Tale Of The Midnight Ride" and "Disguise", the latter joined by a companion video directed by frequent collaborators Jeremy Danger and Travis Shinn. In addition, "Brand New Numb" was recently joined by an official visual, directed by Max Moore.

DREAMS IN PERIL Release “Neckties And Nostalgia” Video
Kansas City heavy groove crushers Dreams In Peril have released their first ever video clip titled “Neckties And Nostalgia”.
With a sound that brings through the pummeling drive of acts such as The Acacia Strain, Architects and Deftones, the band balance massive hooks alongside atmosphere and dynamic, introducing a single that defines the sound of the band’s debut album MePhobia.
The video clip was produced by Paper Anchor Media and offers an insight into the bands background and the struggles they have faced in suffering for their art. Bassist Dalton Collins offers “The song is about overcoming one's failures and issues, no matter what issues or failures one faces. To us as a band, the song is about what we have faced as a band and individuals to get where we are today”
The new single also marks the introduction of the band’s new vocalist Mike Yeager who joined Dreams In Peril earlier this year. Commenting on the journey so far, Mike states “In the short time since joining this band and telling them not to cancel anything after firing the previous singer, I had three weeks to learn all of the material, within six weeks I was recording the single and two months later, I was filming a video. I am being exactly what this band hired me to be – an unstoppable juggernaut!”

BLAZE BAYLEY To Release 'Live In Czech' Live Album And DVD
In spring 2019, former IRON MAIDEN singer Blaze Bayley launched the "Tour Of The Eagle Spirit", taking in venues in Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Belgium, France, U.K., USA and Canada. In September 2019, Blaze took that tour on the road a second time, with a sequence of shows across Germany, Netherlands, Poland, plus two special concluding concerts at the Melodka venue in Brno, Czech Republic. All told, the tour totalled 59 shows and those final two shows were captured for Blaze's forthcoming release, titled "Live In Czech" — a live album and DVD.
The theme of the tour followed on from Blaze's "Infinite Entanglement" trilogy of albums and the setlist particularly featured some of the more epic songs from the trilogy which hadn't previously been included in concert setlists. The set also contained a selection of songs from his albums with IRON MAIDEN during the 1990s.
The audio is produced by Blaze's gifted guitarist/co-writer Chris Appleton (of British metal band ABSOLVA), with outstanding artwork by Akirant Illustration (illustrator for IRON MAIDEN and "Star Wars") and filmed by his regular video contributor Rich Pembridge. Blaze is proud to present "Live In Czech" on his own independent Blaze Bayley Recording label, the well-established home for all Blaze Bayley releases. Release date is currently planned for April 3, 2020.
The "Live In Czech" album will be on double CD and double DVD, including a special behind-the-scenes film titled "The Road To Brno", and is available to pre-order now via the webshop at www.blazebayley.net with four buying options. Option 4 (Ultimate) offers, in addition to the two CDs and two DVDs, a USB memory stick pre-loaded with an HD version of the concert and "The Road To Brno", as well as a custom patch and custom guitar pick.
Track listing:
01. The Dark Side Of Black
02. A Thousand Years
03. Dark Energy 256
04. The World Is Turning The Wrong Way
05. Human
06. Together We Can Move The Sun
07. Solar Wind
08. Virus
09. Life Goes On
10. Fight Back
11. Silicon Messiah
12. The Day I Fell To Earth
13. Eagle Spirit
14. Calling You Home
15. Stare At The Sun
16. Man On The Edge
17. Futureal
18. The Clansman
Bayley fronted IRON MAIDEN from 1994 until 1999. The two MAIDEN albums he appeared on, "The X Factor" and "Virtual XI", sold considerably less than the band's prior releases and were their lowest-charting titles in the group's home country since 1981's "Killers".
Since leaving IRON MAIDEN in 1999, Bayley has released a number of albums, including three under the moniker BLAZE and six under his own name. He also appeared on 2012's "Wolfsbane Saves The World", the first album of new material by WOLFSBANE since the group's self-titled 1994 effort.

DENNIS WARD Quits PINK CREAM 69
Bassist Dennis Ward has left PINK CREAM 69, the band he has played with for more than three decades.
The American-born, German-based musician announced his departure in a Facebook post on Monday (November 25).
He wrote: "Attention all PINK CREAM 69 Fans! It's time that I make the official announcement of my departure from PINK CREAM 69.
"I've had a wonderful time over the past 32 years meeting so many fans and making music with fantastic people.
"I want to thank all the guys, Alfred, Dave, Uwe and Chris, for the years of fun and adventure. I hope that they continue to carry out the legacy of PC69 and I wish them many great concerts and musical experiences.
"This departure is in no way a spontaneous decision. Many of you might have noticed that I have not performed with the band (other than a couple of shows) over the past few years. Fortunately Roman Beselt was able to step in for me often.
"I had been contemplating my departure for awhile now but have held on for no actual reason other than to not make any waves.
"My decision has nothing to do with my other activities; performing with Gus G, joining MAGNUM or my studio work as a producer/engineer. I have no hard feelings towards anyone in the band either, I just wasn't enjoying the very few shows we've had the past few years and quite simply did not feel comfortable on stage anymore. I hope that will be reason enough for anyone curious.
"So let's all wish the guys a great future and please continue to support the band as much as possible!"
A few weeks ago, Ward spoke about his status with PINK CREAM 69 while he was in Greece playing with Gus G. At the time, he told Rockpages TV (see video below): "Today PINK CREAM exists, but it doesn't. It's there. We play two or three shows a year, maybe. So we're still there. We made a record not long ago [2017's 'Headstrong'], which I'm a little unhappy we did so little 'cause, I was really, really, really happy with the last record, and we did nothing to promote it — nothing. One short tour and that was it. Which bothered me, to be really honest. And I expressed my feelings to the band and said that I wanted to do more and I don't think there's a shot to come farther unless we work on it. We played our little tour, and that was pretty much it. But the guys also expressed to me that they're not interested in doing many shows and they're happy with it like it is. And I said, 'Okay, that's fine. It's your choice. Absolutely. No problem.'
"There's no life in PINK CREAM right now," he continued. "There's nothing to lose. We have no loss. It's not like the band fell apart and [it's such a] sad story. Nothing like that. It just sort of slowly dissolved, like bubbles in your beer. It's still a beer, but it has less bubbles. Like I said, the band has told me — they were vocal about it that they don't wanna do too much, because they're happy with the way things are, and I have to accept that. What I don't enjoy at all is like, for example, here [in Greece] playing with Gus… Originally, we were supposed to be here for one show, and I said to Gus, 'You know what? After three months of a break and then playing one show, it's kind of a pain in the ass. 'Cause I prepare well. And I don't wanna prepare well for one show and then just go home. So we arranged three shows — thank God — and it makes it all worthwhile.
"PINK CREAM is still playing a show here; half a year later, another show... I'm not into it, 'cause I know that that show is not gonna be as good as I want it to be, and I'm not in the mood to do that anymore. So, I told the guys I think it'd be a good idea to get someone to replace me in this situation. I'll be there — if you wanna do some touring, some real stuff, I'm ready to go. If not…
"There is no emotion in PINK CREAM right now," he added. "There is nothing there that's fighting to stay alive. Okay? It's individual people that come together to make PINK CREAM every now and then… It's sad, but it is what it is. That's why I keep doing my thing and working with people like Gus, so that I can still have my life as a musician, because I still enjoy doing it and I wanna keep doing it. And if I can't do it with my own band, then I'll do it with somebody else's. No problem."
PINK CREAM 69 was founded in 1987 by singer Andi Deris, guitarist Alfred Koffler and drummer Kosta Zafiriou, who were later joined by Ward. Deris left the band in 1994 and after auditioning various singers was replaced by Englishman David Readman. In 2001, news emerged that Koffler suffered from focal dystonia, a serious disease that affected his left hand and his playing. For their live shows, the band recruited second guitarist Uwe Reitenauer to help out Alfred on stage, and he would eventually become a full-time member. Drummer Chris Schmidt would later step in after the departure of Zafirou in 2012.
Released in November 2017 via Frontiers Music Srl, "Headstrong" was PINK CREAM 69's 12th studio album.
Attention all Pink Cream 69 Fans!
It’s time that I make the official announcement of my departure from Pink Cream 69....

Go Behind The Scenes Of DEF LEPPARD's Final Concert Of 2019
DEF LEPPARD has uploaded an eight-minute vlog covering the band's final concert of 2019, which took place on November 2 at the grand opening of Northern California's newest casino and hotel, the $440 million Hard Rock Sacramento at Fire Mountain, in Wheatland. The show also saw drummer Rick Allen celebrating his 56th birthday backstage and onstage with his bandmates.
During a recent appearance on the "Appetite For Distortion" podcast, Joe Elliott spoke about DEF LEPPARD's plans to record the follow-up to 2015's self-titled album. He said: "It's really important, I think, to keep making new music. But with us — DEF LEPPARD, I mean — we know we'll make new music. We're constantly writing, but we're not in a rush to put anything out just because we have a record deal and we have to put product out there. I think it's more important that DEF LEPPARD just be DEF LEPPARD, and that means playing live in front of people. And maybe once every five years we put a new record out, because that scratches a big enough itch for us these days more so than, say, not touring. I mean, that would be heartbreaking for us."
He continued: "The reason everybody wants to be in a band is to play live — not to spend hours and years in the studio. It wasn't anybody's dream to spend five years in the studio. But, you know, to play in front of an audience in stadiums, that kind of thing, that's the ultimate goal for a band like us. So playing live is, at this moment in time, more important than new music, but we haven't dissed new music at all. We've actually currently got a bunch of songs on the go, but we're just not in a rush to record 'em. We want 'em to be good, not quick."
This past spring, DEF LEPPARD guitarist Phil Collen says that the band had a "bunch of songs" in the works for its 12th studio album, which the band began working on last year.
DEF LEPPARD's second Las Vegas residency took place this past summer. The band took over Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino for 12 nights between August 14 and September 7.
The British rockers played their first Las Vegas residency six years ago at the Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel.
DEF LEPPARD's latest greatest-hits collection, titled "The Story So Far - The Best Of", was released in November 2018.

CROWBAR's KIRK WINDSTEIN To Release Debut Solo Album, 'Dream In Motion', In January
Kirk Windstein, the highly respected sludge metal pioneer and unmistakable earthmoving bellow of CROWBAR, stomps forward as a solo artist for the very first time. On January 24, 2020, Entertainment One (eOne) will release "Dream In Motion", Windstein's singular debut and a recording that sees the dark lord of the southern riff stretch his creative wings and strengthen his indelible legacy.
Recorded in Windstein's native Louisiana over a period of two years between tours and over holidays, "Dream In Motion" is a powerfully moving recording that pulls from every corner of the riff king's three-decade-plus career. The LP owns a lyrical depth, emotional weight, and musical muscle forged from the fires of thousands of worldwide live shows, a well-earned reputation for creating the melancholic melody that has become synonymous with New Orleans heavy metal, and a reflection on a life well-lived. Windstein's solo foray is a heartfelt throwback to album-oriented-rock supremacy, eschewing the predictable acoustic record route for a more straight-ahead guitars approach, albeit one that's no less soulful or meditative than CROWBAR fans expect. Kirk handled all vocal duties, guitars, and bass on the album, with drums and effects by longtime producing partner and collaborator, Duane Simoneaux (CROWBAR, DOWN, EXHORDER).
A first taste of what Kirk's solo debut holds in store can be experienced now as Windstein drops a video for the record's title track. Directed by Justin Reich (BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, ROYAL THUNDER), "Dream In Motion" makes its debut.
"The idea to record a solo album started out as, 'I'm going to do an acoustic record,' but that's just so cliché, you know?" says Windstein. "Nothing against that, but It's been done a million times. But I had been thinking about doing something a little more mellow for some time. It's something I wanted to do, I needed to do. It's another side of my songwriting, my personality. It's another side of me. It's something I did for myself. It's not even that this isn't heavy, because there are bits and pieces that are very heavy. But even the heaviest riff on this is something I couldn't really do in CROWBAR. If some CROWBAR fans don't like it, I'll understand. But I hope people dig it."
The end result is simply stunning. Single note guitar work, simple power chords, clean tones, thundering five-string bass guitar, and standard tuning with nary a "drop" to be heard. "Dream In Motion", which opens the record, is a barn-burning, rock 'n' roll song with just a taste of aggressive attitude. "Hollow Dying Man" is all vibe, with huge melodies and a hardscrabble blue-collar authenticity. The record closes with a faithful rendition of one of Windstein's most enduring favorites: "Aqualung", the title track of JETHRO TULL's 1971 conceptual masterpiece.
Track listing:
01. Dream In Motion
02. Hollow Dying Man
03. Once Again
04. Enemy In Disguise
05. The World You Know
06. Toxic
07. The Healing
08. Necropolis
09. The Ugly Truth
10. Aqualung (JETHRO TULL cover)
Windstein and friends will celebrate the impending release of "Dream In Motion" with a special hometown listening party, set for December 28 at Riffer Madness in Jefferson, Louisiana.

WOLF HOFFMANN Still Doesn't Quite Understand What Caused PETER BALTES To Leave ACCEPT
Pomelo Rocker recently conducted an interview with ACCEPT guitarist Wolf Hoffmann. You can now listen to the chat below. A couple of excerpts follow (transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).
On the progress of the songwriting sessions for the follow-up to 2017's "The Rise Of Chaos" album:
Wolf: "Well, it's going slow, but it's going. I'm sitting here working every day when I can on new songs, and some of them are pretty complete, some of them are half complete, and there's a bunch that are quite far away from being finished. It's a wide spectrum, and I can't really say… It's done when it's done — that's all I know. But we're working on it."
On whether he still keeps in touch with longtime bassist Peter Baltes, who left ACCEPT a year ago:
Wolf: "Man, unfortunately, when somebody leaves the band, they're always kind of out of sight, out of mind. It's very sad. I wish it wasn't that way, because we've been friends for so long. But the reality is I haven't really heard from him — even though I reached out a couple of times. He's almost like he wants to disappear or he wants to leave the music business altogether. It's sad and I still don't quite understand what really happened. But it is what it is, and we move on."
On the addition of third guitarist Philip Shouse:
Wolf: "We got to know Phil during our orchestra shows. We did a bunch of orchestra shows where we played with Phil, and we discovered how incredibly well we jelled together — what a good fit he is. Long story short, we just figured, why should we let him go? We just keep him on, because he's really a great addition to the band lineup, we think. It's a little bit unusual to have three guitar players, but you can really do quite a few cool things with three guitarists. When you have twin leads in certain passages, you still have another guitar player playing the rhythm stuff, so it's really powerful and really versatile in a way. And really he's a super-nice guy as well, so we figured we don't wanna let him go. So we'll just take him on."
On how having a third guitar player will affect ACCEPT's songwriting:
Wolf: "I'm already thinking of that. Now that we know we've got a third guitar player, I'm already thinking during the songwriting, 'Oh, it would be cool if he plays this and I play that.' So, yeah, that makes a big difference. Probably more [twin guitar harmonies]. I don't know — I can't really promise, because you've gotta do what the song wants to do. You can't really force it in there and play double lead stuff all over the place if it doesn't fit the song. So, the song dictates everything. But we're trying to find more spaces for Phil, absolutely."
This past April, ACCEPT announced the addition of bassist Martin Motnik to the group's ranks.
Born in Ludwigshafen, Germany, Motnik has been playing music since he was seven years old and has been a member of several bands, both in Germany and the United States. He was asked by Uli Jon Roth to join him for his 2008 U.S. tour and again in 2009 and 2012. In addition to his musical talent, Motnik also has a Master's Degree in business from the University of Mannheim.
ACCEPT is:
Wolf Hoffmann - Guitar
Mark Tornillo - Vocals
Christopher Williams - Drums
Uwe Lulis - Guitar
Martin Motnik - Bass
Philip Shouse - Guitar

Montreal’s DIZASTRA Announce Debut Album Elder Sun
From the bowels of Satan’s lair, Dizastra has come. After a long wait, their first full-length album Elder Sun is ready to massacre fans on November 22, 2019.
Following their 2015 EP Hell’s Gate, Montreal based Dizastra summons unholy ferocity in their music merging the sounds of black, thrash and melodic heavy metal to coagulate a distinct sound.
During this past summer, these evildoers unleashed the music video for the first single off the album “Vae Victus”. An anthem to riding a dragon through Hades, this track combines all the elements of what makes heavy metal what it is. Bringing together shrieking vocals, pummeling drums, cosmic-threatening bass, and electrifying (literally) solos.
The video for “Vae Victus” demonstrates their meager budget and Tolkien level storytelling in a compelling tale of time travel and high adventure. Wizards, warriors, battle, and friendship all come together to dazzle viewers across the globe.
Other tracks featured on Elder Sun such as “The Second Coming” and “Dead ov Night”, steer the listener through sonic waters vicious and dark, assaulting you with wicked verses and melodious choruses. “Gnosis” and “Piercing The Veil” inject the album with a dose of mayhem and speed while “Astaroth” closes the full-length by bringing listeners from the profoundest deeps to high peaks of heaven.
Altogether, the alchemy crafted in Elder Sun brings a sound both new and familiar to the votaries of thrash and black metal. There is an undeniable shrill-heaviness to this album that gets paired with a thrilling melody to create a thing as awe-inspiring and terrifying as the flames of our solar star. And much like the forbidding beauty of a westering sky, Dizastra’s Elder Sun is not to be missed.
Tracklisting:
“Vae Victus”
“Piercing The Veil”
“Dead ov Night”
“The Second Coming”
“Mourning Wars”
“Gnosis”
“The Last Stand”
“Astaroth”
“Terminus Est”

OPETH Releases Animated Video For 'Universal Truth'
Swedish prog-metal/rock band OPETH has released a dark and eerie new animated video short for the English-language track "Universal Truth", from its recently released album "In Cauda Venenum". The video for the Swedish version of the song, "Ingen Sanning Är Allas", was made available earlier in the week.
The offbeat and beautifully crafted video short was created by renowned South African-born animator/artist Jess Cope ("Frankenweenie", "Metallica: Here Comes Revenge") and follows a melancholic and bitter man on the brink of self-destruction and insanity as he delves into a sinister alternate world as reality crumbles around him. Cope previously collaborated with OPETH's Mikael Åkerfeldt on the music video for "Drag Ropes" for his side project STORM CORROSION with Steven Wilson. Working mainly with traditional animation methods, her shorts have an enticingly tactile look and feel to them and are brought to life with an unprecedented level of skill and attention to detail. Her emotive storytelling draws in audiences in a way that has seen her win multiple awards for her films in recent years.
The video short precedes OPETH's upcoming 2020 North American tour that includes two nights at the legendary Apollo Theater in New York and performances at the renowned Ryman Auditorium in Nashville and at the famed Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles.
Released on September 27 via Moderbolaget / Nuclear Blast Entertainment, "In Cauda Venenum" landed at No. 13 on the U.K. chart and No. 5 on the German chart. The band's previous LP, 2016's "Sorceress", peaked at No. 11 on the U.K. chart, while 2014's "Pale Communion" entered the list at No. 14 and 2011's "Heritage" landed at No. 22.
Regarding the decision to release "In Cauda Venenum" in Swedish, OPETH mastermind Mikael Åkerfeldt told Revolver: "Doing it in Swedish was just an idea that popped into my head, like, 'Maybe I should fry my egg in the morning instead of boiling it.' It wasn't any deeper than that. And I figured the music climate has changed so much, does it really matter which language it's in? That was it. And it didn't have me writing more lyrics — it just had me writing more music. And the music didn't sound more Swedish or anything like that. But it was a gateway that opened, and it was fun.
Mikael added that he is "not regretting" the fact that "In Cauda Venenum" was also recorded in English. "A lot of people [in the U.S.] are saying they only listened to the English version," he said. "So I was proven right, in a way. I can say a thousand times that the Swedish version is the original version, but it's up to people to choose. I can just hope that they check out both versions. But I do think the Swedish version is slightly better — only because it was first. It's more innocent. With the English version, regardless of what you think about it, that's me trying to copy a vocal line I had done in another language. So it's less exciting to me." | +5

NEVERMORE effectively split up in 2011 when Loomis and drummer Van Williams announced their departure from the band due to personal differences with singer Warrel Dane and bassist Jim Sheppard. Warrel later described NEVERMORE in an interview as "the greatest band that alcohol ever ruined."
Dane died in December 2017 while recording his posthumously released solo studio album, "Shadow Work".
Earlier this year, Loomis said that there are no plans to resurrect NEVERMORE without Dane. He explained: "It's one of those things where I think NEVERMORE had such a special sound and it was simply because of all the musicians that were in that at the time. Van [Williams, drums], me, Warrel, Jim [Sheppard, bass]. We had numerous different guitarists in the band throughout the years. We had Chris Broderick, we had Tim Calvert, who sadly passed away. A lot of good players. Steve Smyth, Curran Murphy. All these guys were a part of NEVERMORE in the past. Honestly, in my vision, it's important that you move on in your life. I really would like to remember the spirit and the attitude that we had as a band with the music and just move on from there. Because without Warrel, it's just not feasible, in my mind. [He is] sadly missed. He was one of my best friends. Things like that happen and it's a very sad situation. It really was. But we have the music to remember it all by." | +3

FATES WARNING's RAY ALDER Releases Music Video For Solo Song 'Wait'
FATES WARNING vocalist Ray Alder released his first solo album, "What The Water Wants", on October 18 via InsideOut Music. The disc includes 10 melodic and versatile songs created with assistance from guitarists Mike Abdow (FATES WARNING touring member) and Tony Hernando (LORDS OF BLACK) as well as drummer Craig Anderson (IGNITE, CRESCENT SHIELD). The LP was mixed by Simone Mularoni (RHAPSODY, MICHAEL ROMEO, DGM).
The official music video for the disc's latest single, "Wait", directed by Manuel Giménez of MG Media Productions, can be seen below.
Alder stated: "It's been a little over a month now since 'What The Water Wants' came out. I truly appreciate all the great things everyone has been saying about my first solo album. Thank you! It was a lot of work but well worth it to hear such a positive response. I hope you are all still enjoying it! As a thank you for listening (and for those who may not of heard it yet), here is another video from 'What The Water Wants'. This is a song that Tony Hernando and I wrote together. Here is the video for 'Wait'."
"What The Water Wants" track listing:
01. Lost
02. Crown Of Thorns
03. Some Days
04. Shine
05. Under Dark Skies
06. A Beautiful Lie
07. The Road
08. Wait
09. What The Water Wanted
10. The Killing Floor
11. The Road (acoustic version) (bonus track)
Alder recently told That Drummer Guy about the decision to write and record "What The Water Wants": "Honestly, FATES was really busy doing a lot of things — obviously the two albums we did over the last five years, and all of the touring and everyone was busy. Then [FATES WARNING leader] Jim [Matheos] was doing the 'Awaken The Guardian' reunion thing. Everyone has been really busy. I took a break while he was doing that. I wasn't doing anything. Then he was going to do another ARCH/MATHEOS and I knew there was going to be quite a break in between the next FATES WARNING, so I went, 'All right, maybe this is the time for me to do something.' Now that I live in Europe, music is my only form of income, so I was basically, like, 'I have to do something.' And I wanted to. I actually wanted to do something different, work with different people and see how it was. It ended up being a lot of work, but it was a lot of fun. It's odd for me. When I record vocals or write my melodies for FATES, I have Jim to bounce ideas off of. This time it was a little more difficult because I was not being produced. I was self-producing the music. It's something I'm not quite used to. It ended up okay, I think. I'm pretty happy with it."
Regarding the musicians that he chose to work with on his solo album, Ray said: "I didn't know exactly who to use at first. Here in the city of Madrid [Spain], I met this guy, Tony Hernando, he's the guitar player in this band LORDS OF BLACK, who are sort of a power metal band. He's a good guy, a great guitar player, a sort of a guitar-hero kind of guy. I started talking to him and I was saying I was thinking about doing a solo album and whether he'd be interested. He said, 'Yeah, of course, man. What do you hear? What kind of music are you listening to? What do you want to have on the album?' I said 'I don't really know. Let's start working on stuff and see what fits.' It started out from there. I knew right away that I wanted to use Craig Anderson for the drums. He's from the hardcore band IGNITE. He's a longtime friend of mine, one of my best friends in the world. He's a great drummer, super solid. I've worked with him a few times before. Tony and I were working on things; we had a few songs down. He and his band were busy with other things and they were having problems with his singer; he was really busy. He couldn't really focus as much as he wanted to or as I wanted him to. I believe I was on tour with FATES. Mike [Abdow, FATES WARNING touring guitarist] said, 'You're doing a solo album. I just want to you let you know if you're interested, I'm happy to contribute.' I said, 'Absolutely. I'd love to hear what you have.' He started sending me songs. I loved what he was sending me. I loved the vibe; I loved the feel. Everything about it was great. So we just started moving on from there. Mike ended up writing seven of the songs. Tony wrote three. That's pretty much what it is. There are still some songs that we didn't use. I just wanted to use the ones that I felt that fit best on this album. There are a few songs still laying around that I think are pretty good, but didn't make it to the album at this point. Who knows? We'll see."
On the topic of the musical approach he took for "What The Water Wants", Ray said: "I wanted it to be interesting, too. I didn't want to be pigeonholed. I didn't want to be in one genre, and I especially didn't want it to sound like a FATES WARNING album or rehash music from FATES. I wanted it to be different. I wanted to highlight what I can do vocally. There's a lot of harmonies. There are some songs that have eight tracks of vocals. I was just having fun with it. It's not something I would normally do in FATES. That was the cool part about it."
"What The Water Wants" was made available as limited first-pressing digipak CD with a bonus track (an acoustic version of "The Road") and as an LP on 180-fram vinyl with the full album on CD as bonus. | +6
