Canadian Rock Legends TRIUMPH 'Had A Great Time' Performing Again At Special Event In Toronto

Canadian rock legends TRIUMPH were inducted into Canada's Walk Of Fame during an event in Toronto on Saturday, November 23.

The 21st annual ceremony and gala took place at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, where there was a celebration of Canadians who have achieved excellence in their respective fields on both national and international stages. The show will be broadcast in December on CTV.

STYX frontman Lawrence Gowan paid tribute to TRIUMPH by performing a medley of the band's best-known songs with a nine-piece Rock Army.

The Walk Of Fame event was held exactly a week after drummer Gil Moore, guitarist Rik Emmett, and bassist Mike Levine played together publicly at an invite-only event to approx 300 "superfans" at MetalWorks studio in Mississauga (a suburb of Toronto), Ontario, Canada. The three-song set — which was taped for the forthcoming documentary "Triumph: Lay It On The Line" — was not only TRIUMPH's first performance in 11 years, but also its first as a pure three-piece power trio in 31 years. The tracks played were "When The Lights Go Down", "Lay It On The Line" and "Magic Power".

Asked by ET Canada on the red carpet of the Walk Of Fame how it felt for TRIUMPH to perform again, Levine said (see video below): "That was just so much fun. It was a lot of hard work, because we hadn't played together as a three-piece in forever — almost. But we worked hard at it, and when the fans saw us, they just went crazy. And we played pretty good. We had a great time doing it."

Moore talked about TRIUMPH's decision to make "Lay It On The Line", explaining that "it kind of came together over time, over stages. But we really developed the narrative with the director, Sam Dunn, which was to kind of find a way to embrace the fans that had embraced us for all those years. And that became the theme of every nuance that they went down. So it was a phenomenal experience. [It was] very emotional to meet them. There was a lot of tears. There wasn't really a dry eye in the house, to be honest. It was very touching."

Asked if there are any plans for TRIUMPH to perform again in the future, Emmett said: "I think we're gonna try and do it every 11 years or so. That's the length of time it had been since we did a reunion in Sweden. And [Canadian comedian] Rick Mercer says, 'Yeah, TRIUMPH does a reunion and they do it in Sweden. That's great.' So, we did that. Then we did Oklahoma, I think, or Rocklahoma. That was in July of 2008. Now we did this thing. So, like I say, every decade or so."

Moore, Levine, and Emmett formed TRIUMPH in 1975, and their blend of heavy riff-rockers with progressive odysseys, peppered with thoughtful, inspiring lyrics and virtuosic guitar playing quickly made them a household name in Canada. Anthems like "Lay It On The Line", "Magic Power" and "Fight The Good Fight" broke them in the USA, and they amassed a legion of fiercely passionate fans. But, as a band that suddenly split at the zenith of their popularity, TRIUMPH missed out on an opportunity to say thank you to those loyal and devoted fans, a base that is still active today, three decades later.

"Triumph: Lay It On The Line" is produced by Banger Films in association with Revolver Films, Bell Media's Crave, Live Nation Productions and NBC Universal Canada. It is produced with the participation of the Rogers Documentary Fund and Slaight Communications Inc. International distribution by Round Hill Music.

Due in 2020, the film will be right at home in the Banger Films catalogue, among such esteemed rock docs as "Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage", "Super Duper Alice Cooper", "Iron Maiden: Flight 666", and, most recently, "ZZ Top: That Little Ol' Band From Texas".

Finnish death metal band Necropsy has finished recording a 4-song EP titled Exitus, which will be released January 21st, 2020 through Xtreem Music in CD format.

Although, the other three songs display a remarkable change of style in the band, which for this EP have decided to try slower sounds entering purely doom realms, that you can hear in their next single due mid-December.

NASTY Sign To Century Media Records

Century Media Records has announced the signing of Nasty. With their tireless work ethic and positive attitude, the metallic hardcore powerhouse from Germany and Belgium has become an international force, playing anywhere from Europe, US, Russia, Brazil, Japan, China and Korea. They also joined in countless well-known festivals such as Wacken Open Air, Hellfest, Graspop Metal Meeting, With Full Force, Resurrection Fest and many more.

Fellow friends from other bands are excited to welcome Nasty to the Century Media roster:

Heaven Shall Burn: “After just visiting us in the studio to lay down some tunes for our upcoming album they have joined the same label. Congratulations! Welcome to the pack!”

Caliban’s Marc Görtz (guitars): ”One of the, if not THE heaviest and most aggressive band from Germany! They are hard-working and a guarantee for energetic live shows! Matthi’s vocals on ‘Ich blute für Dich’ were one of a kind!”

Andy Dörner (vocals) adds: “Finally! It was high time and I am happy that our Circle of Friends within the Century Media family has been extended by another ferocious power and force. I have a lot of respect for the guys in Nasty. It doesn’t get much heavier when it comes to breakdowns… Chapeau and welcome to the family!”

BOB KULICK And DAVID GLEN EISLEY Present Special Version Of Their Spongebob Squarepants Song "Sweet Victory" In Honour Of Show Creator STEPHEN HILLENBURG; Audio

In remembrance of Spongebob Squarepants creator Stephen Hillenburg on the one-year anniversary of his passing, a brand new, free special version of the anthem “Sweet Victory” will be available as a tribute to his memory.

Penned by Grammy Award-winning producer / guitarist Bob Kulick (KISS, Motörhead, Meat Loaf) and celebrated hard rock singer David Glen Eisley (Giuffria, Dirty White Boy), the song, originally featured in the 2001 episode “Band Geeks”, is presented as a new remixed version.

Upon hearing “Sweet Victory”, Hillenburg was inspired to write the entire episode around this epic song. Eisley’s passionate vocals were sung by Spongebob himself, in a football stadium performance at the Bubble Bowl, starring all the Bikini Bottom characters. The scene has become hailed as one of the most memorable moments from the series.

“The episode exemplified Stephen Hillenburg’s talents,” says Kulick, “so we, the ‘Sweet Victory’ creators, along with Doug Katsaros (orchestration and background vocals), Katie Katsaros (background vocals), and Mike Gillies (mixer) humbly present to you this new abbreviated version (1:54) in tribute to Stephen Hillenburg.”

Debuted almost 20 years ago, “Sweet Victory” continues to resonate with listeners. In November 2018, a petition was created via Change.org urging fans to rally behind a Super Bowl performance of the song in Hillenburg’s memory. Although Maroon 5 did not perform the song during their halftime set, streams of “Sweet Victory” jumped 566% after the band included a Spongebob teaser in a halftime show promo clip on their Twitter feed.

“May you ALL have a happy Holiday season,” concludes Eisley. “May the new decade find you all celebrating your own ‘Victories’ in your lives, your hearts & your souls.”

Watch HELLYEAH Play PANTERA Covers In Toronto

Fan-filmed video footage of HELLYEAH covering PANTERA's "I'm Broken" and "Walk" on November 19 at Phoenix Concert Theatre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada can be seen below (courtesy of YouTube user " JIM SYMINGTON").

HELLYEAH's sixth studio album, "Welcome Home", was released on September 27 via Eleven Seven Music. The disc marks the group's final effort with drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott (formerly of PANTERA), who passed away a year and a half ago.

Like the last two records, 2016's "Unden!able" and 2014's "Blood For Blood", "Welcome Home" was recorded at The Hideout Recording Studio in Las Vegas, Nevada with producer Kevin Churko.

Vinnie Paul died in June 2018 at the age of 54 in his sleep at his home in Las Vegas. The official cause of death was dilated cardiomyopathy, an enlarged heart, as well as severe coronary artery disease.

HELLYEAH guitarist Tom Maxwell recently paid tribute to Vinnie on the first anniversary of the drummer's death. Maxwell wrote in part: "I'm writing you this letter to tell you how much I miss and love you. Never could I have imagined you not being here with us anymore. There's so much all of us lost when you left us. Your smile, your infectious laugh, your always steadfast care of all those around you. Everything has changed now.

The guitarist continued: "Our family is just shards of what it used to be. It seemed like every day was harder then the one before it. It's hard just knowing that you're not here to lift everyone up and make everything better with just the simplest things you always used to do. It's hard waking up and trying to navigate through such murky waters. We're doing our best — some better than others, some not so much."

HELLYEAH's May 11 concert in Las Vegas marked the first time the band took the stage since Vinnie's passing and the debut of STONE SOUR member Roy Mayorga as Vinnie's replacement.

NANCY WILSON Has 'A Lot Of Song Ideas' For HEART's Next Release

HEART guitarist Nancy Wilson has confirmed to Ultimate Classic Rock that there are plans for the band to make new music in 2020. It will mark HEART's first fresh material since 2016's "Beautiful Broken" LP, which contained a mix of new songs and re-imagined versions of the band's classic album cuts.

"I've got a lot of song ideas in my head and in my notes on my phone, and [I've been] singing into my phone," Nancy explained. "So I think that new HEART material would be really great, because the last album we did was [2016's] 'Beautiful Broken', [where] we kind of redid some of our favorite [songs from HEART's catalog]."

HEART toured North America this past summer after a nasty split that kept the Wilson sisters estranged for three years. According to Nancy, there are plans for HEART to return to the road in 2020, hitting some of the cities that weren't included in this year's itinerary.

"I think the next smart move would be to get some new HEART stuff going and then take it out on the road again," she said. "But not the same shed tour. Canada wants us up there ... and probably some European dates and some other festivals and stuff like that. Things that don't imitate what we just did."

Ann and Nancy had a falling out during HEART's 2016 tour, when Ann's husband Dean Welter was arrested for assaulting Nancy's then-16-year-old twin sons in a backstage altercation at a gig near their hometown of Seattle. He pleaded guilty to two lesser assault charges to avoid jail time.

After completing HEART's 2016 tour, Nancy formed a new band called ROADCASE ROYALE and released an album, "First Things First". ROADCASE ROYALE featured three members of HEART along with Liv Warfield from Prince's NEW POWER GENERATION band and her guitarist Ryan Wilson.

Ann's 2018 solo album, "Immortal", contained cover versions of classic songs by artists who have passed away.

DAVE LOMBARDO Has No Plans To Attend SLAYER's Final Show

Meltdown of Detroit's WRIF radio station recently conducted an interview with drum legend Dave Lombardo (SUICIDAL TENDENCIES, DEAD CROSS, MISFITS, MR. BUNGLE, FANTÔMAS, GRIP INC., SLAYER). A few excerpts follow (transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).

On whether he will ever transition out of full-time touring into studio and film scoring work:

Dave: "No. Come on, man. I love playing drums and being onstage and going on tours, visiting all these fine cities. It's part of my life. It's going to be difficult to slow me down. Here I am, 54, and my wife is, like, 'Wow, you are the Energizer Bunny. You are just always going.' It's, like, 'Well, hey, it's just my nature.' I realized several years ago I put myself in a different perspective. Instead of I'm always the hyper one: 'Oh, god. You're so hyper. You're so full of energy.' It's, like, 'No. You are all slow. That's the problem.' [Laughs] I'm just at a different tape speed than you are. I'm running at 45. You guys are at 33 and a third."

On whether doing the score for Nicholas Brennan's "Los Últimos Frikis" documentary on Cuban metal band ZEUS was close to his heart:

Dave: "It is. People know I was born in Havana, Cuba. My parents in the middle of the revolution that was going on there at that time decided to immigrate to the United States. So, I found that this documentary really hit home. It felt very personal because what these guys endured — while I was in the States starting SLAYER and playing in that band and doing shows — I had two bands before I even joined SLAYER. So, as a child, as a kid, I was here flourishing. To know these guys had the same passion, had the same drive that I had and they were being oppressed. The singer was jailed for six years for playing metal music. It just goes to show what these guys have gone through for the love of music and what at times, we all take for granted, and take for granted some of the freedoms that we have. It really hit home. It felt very natural for me to dive into this project wholeheartedly and with the same passion that when I play on stage and with the same love. It was a treat. It was really awesome to be part of it."

On whether "Los Últimos Frikis" reminds him of ANVIL's 2008 "The Anvil! The Story Of Anvil" documentary or METALLICA's 2004 "Some Kind Of Monster":

Dave: "Actually, no. I stay away from a lot… I've never watched the ANVIL documentary and I'm really sorry; I apologize. Maybe I should. Same with the METALLICA documentary. I hear so much from the underground and it resonates and I want to leave my perception of these bands, leave it alone. There's some things I don't want to see. And I have deep love and respect for not only METALLICA and for ANVIL and everything they've gone through. I have respect for them. I don't like it being tarnished or anything. It is what it is."

On whether he plans on attending SLAYER's final show on November 30 at The Forum in Los Angeles:

Dave: "No. Come on, man. No. [Laughs] Yeah, no. I think I have a show on that day. I'm playing Knotfest in Mexico City [with SUICIDAL TENDENCIES], then heading over to El Salvador and playing another festival. I'm onstage."

On working with FAITH NO MORE vocalist Mike Patton in DEAD CROSS, MR. BUNGLE and FANTÔMAS:

Dave: "He's one of the most kindest humans I've ever met. He's an amazing artist. He's a dear friend whom I love and respect. To work with him, it's an absolute pleasure to work with the guy. He's so creative and so musically inclined on various instruments and his vocal range, my god, seven-octave range. The guy is a master at his art. This is the honest truth: I'd say it if I met him once, twice, and I've known him for 20-some years, probably longer. He's definitely a great human and I'm very fortunate to know him and play in two bands with him. I've actually played in three, maybe four or five because I've done improvisations and random improvisations whether it's with saxophone or a violin player or Bill Laswell, the bass player, or John Zorn. We've done so much together that I really cherish our friendship."

"Los Últimos Frikis" captures an intimate portrait of ZEUS, a heavy metal band from Havana, Cuba. After fighting for two decades for the right to play their once-forbidden music, ZEUS embarks on a journey across the island for their first national tour. While on tour, the band confronts their own fragile place in the country's shifting culture as a new generation turns to newer, sexier sounds. Returning home to Havana on the cusp of their 30th anniversary, the band comes to terms with how they've dedicated their lives, as the film becomes a reflection on time, art and life's purpose.

Lombardo, who currently splits his time between crossover pioneers SUICIDAL TENDENCIES, horror-punk icons MISFITS and hardcore supergroup DEAD CROSS, was effectively fired from SLAYER after sitting out the group's Australian tour in February/March 2013 due to a contract dispute with the other bandmembers. He has since been replaced by Paul Bostaph, who was previously SLAYER's drummer from 1992 until 2001.

WAITING FOR MONDAY To Release Debut Album In February Via Frontiers Music Srl; "End Of A Dream" Music Video Streaming

Waiting For Monday is a new melodic rock band formed by vocalist Rudy Cardenas and guitarist/singer August Zadra. The band hails from Los Angeles and was brought to the attention of Frontiers by Jeff Scott Soto, with the label moving quickly to sign them based on their outstanding talents.

Musically, you can expect classic chart topping melodies ala Journey, Styx, and Foreigner, but with a decidedly modern approach. And if you are looking for sunny, meaningless lyrics, then you probably best look elsewhere as the band has stories to tell, and not all of them happy.

The band's self-titled debut album will be released on February 14. First single, "End Of A Dream", is out today and can be streamed and/or downloaded on your preferred digital retailer here. A music video for the song can be seen below.

Originally from Venezuela, Rudy Cardenas is an incredible vocal talent. His pipes carried him to the finals on Season 6 of American Idol and he has been heard on TV and movies ranging from Family Guy to Real Steel. For five years, Rudy was the power alto for the multi-award winning vocal group, M-pact, who was named Vocal Group of the Year at the 2005 L.A. Music Awards. More recently, Rudy was the featured vocalist for the Gold-selling Hungarian rock album by Mr. Zsolt.

August Zadra is best known for handling lead guitar and vocal duties in iconic singer Dennis DeYoung's solo band since 2010. Since the age of 15, guitar playing has been a passion that carried August from Fairbanks, Alaska to Hollywood, California, where he attended and graduated from the Guitar Institute of Technology. He has been a regular feature in the Los Angeles music scene for the past 20 years, playing with a variety of bands, and is often sought out as a guitarist/vocalist collaborator for writing and recording projects.

Completing the lineup are Joe Travers (drums), Walter Ino (guitar and keyboards), and Eric Baines (bass).

DEATHWHITE Reveal New Album Details; First Single Streaming

Enigmatic dark metal outfit Deathwhite will be releasing their sophomore effort, Grave Image, on January 31, 2020. First single, “Further From Salvation”, is streaming below.

"'Further from Salvation' was the first song we wrote for Grave Image," comments the members of Deathwhite. "It gave us the confidence and direction to move forward in a similar direction for the rest of the album, whereby we decided to place more emphasis on heaviness and melody. 'Further from Salvation' is also unique for its drum break in the middle portion of the song, something we are imminently proud of. The song itself is reflective of the regular back-and-forth of the human psyche, where inner peace and turmoil is sometimes a mirage of one's own doing. There is, of course, no parallel to peace of mind, as difficult as it is to achieve."

“In Eclipse”

BLACK VEIL BRIDES Part Ways With Bassist ASHLEY PURDY

BLACK VEIL BRIDES have split with bassist Ashley Purdy.

The band broke the news of Purdy's departure via a statement posted on its social media channels.

"BLACK VEIL BRIDES and Ashley Purdy have mutually agreed to part ways," the statement reads. "We have enjoyed a wonderful run together and both parties wish one another continued success moving forward."

Purdy joined BLACK VEIL BRIDES in 2009 and appeared on all five of the band's studio albums.

Earlier this week, BLACK VEIL BRIDES was announced as one of the support acts for IN THIS MOMENT on the spring 2020 "The In-Between Tour".

Purdy made headlines in July 2018 for saying during an appearance on a since-deleted "Another FN Podcast" episode that last year's Vans Warped Tour dates would be "the last time" fans would see BLACK VEIL BRIDES.

One day after BLACK VEIL BRIDES singer Andy Biersack did a round of interviews shooting down the split report, Purdy took to his Twitter account to give his side of the story, insisting that his words were taken out of context.

BLACK VEIL BRIDES will celebrate the tenth anniversary of their debut album, "We Stitch These Wounds", next year by releasing a re-recorded version of the LP, along with some new songs.

"We Stitch These Wounds" was issued in July 2010 via StandBy Records and was BLACK VEIL BRIDES' only studio album to feature drummer Sandra Alvarenga before she left the band and joined MODERN DAY ESCAPE.

BLACK VEIL BRIDES' latest album, "Vale", came out in January 2018 via Lava/Universal Republic. The follow-up to BLACK VEIL BRIDES' 2014 self-titled effort was produced by John Feldmann at his Southern California studio.

SEVENDUST Will Wait Until Summer 2020 To Release New Album

SEVENDUST guitarist Clint Lowery says that the band has "pretty much wrapped" the recording process for its new album. The follow-up to last year's "All I See Is War" was once again tracked at Studio Barbarosa in Gotha, Florida with producer Michael "Elvis" Baskette, who has previously worked with ALTER BRIDGE and SLASH, among others.

Speaking to Cutter and Kaytie of Wisconsin's Razor 94.7 and 104.7 radio stations, Lowery stated about SEVENDUST's 13th studio album (hear audio below): "I'm actually done. I just finished my last thing a few days ago, and Lajon [Witherspoon, vocals] has, like, one more song to sing. And then I'll be sending a couple things, like last-minute things, but we're pretty much wrapped on that thing.

"We're gonna sit on it for a while," he continued. "We may record a little bit more in the spring, but I think we're done. And I'm really pumped up about it; I think it's gonna be killer."

According to Lowery, SEVENDUST's touring schedule won't get in the way of the promotional activities for his upcoming solo album, "God Bless The Renegades", which will arrive on January 31, 2020 via Rise Records.

"SEVENDUST will come out summer of 2020, so I'll have a little bit of a hole to kind of do my thing for a while," he explained. "SEVENDUST needs to go away for a little bit; we can't just stay out. And I think everyone understands that. So it'll be good to give that a break, so we can come back recharged for that."

"All I See Is War" was released in May 2018. It marked the group's first album for Rise Records, the Oregon-based metal and hard rock label which was purchased by BMG in 2015.

SEVENDUST released four singles and videos from "All I See Is War": "Dirty", "Not Original", "Medicated" and "Risen".

In 2016, SEVENDUST received its first-ever Grammy nomination after two decades together as a band. "Thank You", the debut single from 2015's "Kill The Flaw", got the nod for "Best Metal Performance".

SAMMY HAGAR Says THE CIRCLE Will Do A 'Real' 40-City Tour In 2020: 'I've Got To Do This While I Still Can'

During his November 19 appearance at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles, veteran rock vocalist Sammy Hagar revealed that THE CIRCLE — his rock supergroup with drummer Jason Bonham (BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION, JASON BONHAM'S LED ZEPPELIN EVENING), guitarist Vic Johnson (THE WABORITAS) and his VAN HALEN and CHICKENFOOT band mate Michael Anthony — will embark on an extensive North American tour in 2020. The trek will mark the longest in years for the 72-year-old singer known as "The Red Rocker."

"I'm going to do a 40-city tour," Hagar said. "I haven't done this in a long time. This year, we made a record ['Space Between'] and I was told, 'You've got to go out and support it.' I don't like to go away and tour, but I love to play shows. The way we [normally] do it with THE CIRCLE, we play a couple shows a month, but I'm going to do 40 cities — a real tour — next year. I'm doubling from what I did this year. I decided that I've got to do this while I still can. There's going to be a day I wake up and go, 'I can't do this no more,' not because I don't want to in my heart, but because my knees, my back, my voice, something's going to say, 'Nope.' It's inevitable for everyone, so I'm going to go ahead and dig in.”

THE CIRCLE's first album of all-original material, "Space Between", was released on May 10 via BMG.

Lyrically and musically, the collection of songs on "Space Between" build from intimate and introspective eye-openers to heart-pumping anthems. The music draws on the band members' substantial careers independently and collaboratively, presenting a veteran act still at the peak of its game.

THE CIRCLE released a concert album, "At Your Service", in 2015. Recorded on tour in 2014, it featured live performances of hits from Hagar's four decades of rock (MONTROSE, solo, VAN HALEN, THE WABORITAS, CHICKENFOOT) as well as classic tracks from the LED ZEPPELIN catalog.

"We play the VAN HALEN stuff as well as VAN HALEN ever played it, we play 'Rock Candy' as good as MONTROSE ever played it," Hagar told Classic Rock in a 2018 interview. "That's a mighty bold statement, but it's a fact. So I thought: 'We've got 20 classic songs from each band, probably more, we don't even need to make a record.' But five years later, here we are, we made a record [of all-original material]."

Mongolian Rock Band THE HU To Receive Highest State Award

According to Xinhua, Mongolian rock sensation THE HU, who released their debut album, "The Gereg", via Better Noise Music in September, will be granted with the Order of Genghis Khan, the country's highest state award. Mongolian president Khaltmaa Battulga personally decided to confer the order on THE HU, Office of the President of Mongolia announced Monday.

The order is presented to Mongolian citizens who have made great contributions to strengthening national unity, deeply studying the history and culture of Mongolia, and familiarizing other countries with Mongolian culture.

Chief of staff of the President of Mongolia, Zandaakhuu Enkhbold, told reporters: "On the National Pride Day, the president will award the highest state honor to THE HU band for promoting Mongolian culture in the world."

The National Pride Day is a holiday in honor of the 857th anniversary of the birth of Genghis Khan. This festive date this year falls on November 27.

THE HU stands for the Mongolian root word for human being, inspiring the band's original style of music that it calls "Hunnu Rock." The group pulls inspiration from the Hunnu, an ancient Mongolian empire better known as The Huns in western culture. Their music is deeply embedded with their ancient culture, even integrating old Mongolian war cries and poetry into their lyrics.

The group was founded in 2016 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia by their producer Dashka, along with band members Gala, Jaya, Temka and Enkush. Together they create rock music with traditional Mongolian instrumentation such as the morin khuur (horsehead fiddle), tovshuur (Mongolian guitar), tumur khuur (jaw harp), guttural throat singing built around the pillars of heavy rock: distorted guitars, bombastic drums, and aggressive rhythms. All four members have earned Bachelor's or higher degrees in classical music and have gained several years of touring experience throughout Asia and the Pacific Rim.

Having achieved phenomenal success with three videos that combined have over 45 million views to date — "Wolf Totem", "Yuve Yuve Yu" and the latest, "The Great Chinggis Khaan" — the band garnered viral success and has achieved international critical acclaim. They've also got themselves a famous fan, with Elton John recently playing them and raving about the band on his "Rocket Hour" Beats 1 radio show. Playing "Yuve Yuve Yu", Elton commented: "You know I'm crazy about a Mongolian band called THE HU — it's just the greatest new thing I've heard in a long time. They use traditional Mongolian instruments… It's absolutely fantastic."

THE HU is:

Gala: lead throat singer and morin khuur

Enkush: lead morin khuur and throat singer

Jaya: jaw harp, tsuur, flute, and throat singer

Temka: tovshuur

ACE FREHLEY's 'Origins Vol. 2' To Feature Guest Appearance By Ex-KISS Guitarist BRUCE KULICK

During an appearance on this past Thursday's (November 21) episode of "Trunk Nation: L.A. Invasion" on SiriusXM, Ace Frehley spoke about the status of "Origins Vol. 2", the sequel to his 2016 collection of cover songs that inspired the former KISS guitarist.

He said: "I have Lita Ford singing [THE ROLLING STONES'] 'Jumpin' Jack Flash'. I have Robin Zander singing '30 Days In The Hole' by HUMBLE PIE. It came out fabulous. It was a lot of fun working with Lita, 'cause Lita's like my sister. KISS and THE RUNAWAYS used to tour together back in the '70s… I have [former KISS guitarist] Bruce Kulick doing a solo on [Jimi Hendrix's] 'Manic Depression'. I have John 5 playing on a BEATLES song, 'I'm Down'. And he did one other song, 'Politician' by CREAM… If you listen to the CREAM version, [Eric] Clapton does a double solo — he's playing two solos at the same time. So what me and John 5 did is, he did a solo, I did a solo, and then Alex Salzman, my engineer, we did a crossfade. So if you listen to the song with headphones on, you hear me going from one side to the other, and John going from one side back. So it's a really interesting mix. If you listen to it with headphones, you'll get a big kick out of it."

According to Frehley, one of the most appealing aspects of making an album of covers is the fact that he doesn't have to write the songs. "So all I have to do is kind of make it my own, and maybe change the guitar solo a little, maybe change the arrangement a little, and then get some guest stars. I can knock it out in 30 days."

Ace also talked about the delay in releasing "Origins Vol. 2", which was initially expected before the end of 2019.

"It was finished a couple of months ago, and now we're just at the process of mastering and sequencing it," he said. "Originally, we were supposed to put it out in January, and now the record company wants to hold the release date till March. I don't know anything about selling records; I just know how to make 'em. So if they say they wanna put it out in March, I say fine. It gives me more time to work on writing new material for my next studio record."

Frehley previously told The Weekender that "Origins Vol. 2" will once again feature a LED ZEPPELIN tune, "Good Times Bad Times". He also revealed that he wanted to lay down the vocals for "30 Days In The Hole" himself, but that he "just couldn't cut it, vocally, because [Steve] Marriott's just too good of a goddamn singer. I just couldn't do justice to his vocals," he explained. "But I remembered that I had bumped into Robin Zander years ago at a meet-and-greet and he had mentioned to me that he'd like to sing on one of my upcoming records, so I remembered that and gave him a call. And he killed it as well. He sounds like a young Marriott."

Released in April 2016, "Origins Vol. 1" debuted at No. 23 on The Billboard 200 with first-week sales of 16,000 equivalent album units. The CD featured KISS frontman Paul Stanley joining Ace on FREE's hit "Fire And Water"; Slash trading leads on THIN LIZZY's classic "Emerald", Ford singing and playing lead on THE TROGGS staple "Wild Thing", ROB ZOMBIE guitarist John 5 playing guitar alongside Ace on the classic KISS composition "Parasite", and PEARL JAM's Mike McCready playing guitar with Ace on KISS's "Cold Gin".

In a 2016 interview with The Aquarian Weekly, Frehley admitted that doing the first covers album was "the record company's idea. To be honest with you, initially, I wasn't that excited about the project, because I had just come off the high of the success of 'Space Invader', which is all originals except for a cover of 'The Joker'," he said. "It was almost, like, 'Okay, I'm going to go through the motions and get this out of the way and then jump into the studio for my next real studio album.' But I've gotta tell ya, man, once I started the process and started remembering the groups that influenced me, narrowing down which songs I thought were going to be best for the record, and then started the recording process; I really started getting more excited about it."

MISERY INDEX Releases Music Video For 'Decline And Fall'

MISERY INDEX's music video for the song "Decline And Fall" can be seen below. The song is taken from the band's latest album, "Rituals Of Power", which was released in March via Season Of Mist The artwork for the disc was created by Raphael Gabrio.

MISERY INDEX comments on the video: "All civilizations fall [and] decline and, in the present, its members grapple dually with the lamentation of its demise and the hopefulness of new beginnings. This is us expressing precisely that."

Speaking about how "Rituals Of Power" compares to MISERY INDEX's previous albums, bassist/vocalist Jason Netherton told Metal Insider: "The last album, the work was a lot longer. It was almost 50 minutes. It was sweeping everything in there, a monolithic kind of lengthy work. And this one, definitely a lot more whittled down. It's a very tight, precise eight-song record. Even though it's a death metal record, it does lie a lot of conventional metal themes from old school metal and old school death metal to big courses, big hooks, and all of that stuff. The beat system was more refined, that's probably what pulled from that, I think, it's a little over thirty minutes, and makes a statement."

On the topic of the lyrical themes covered on "Rituals Of Power", Netherton said" "A lot of it has to do with criticism on our everyday life. A lot of the things that are happening and the dark side of technology and our communication tool. It's what in itself of this so-called big news era. It's a wake-up call for civilization to take a look at where we're headed with how we communicate with each other. And what this means for bigger things like democracy and it's a thread which runs through all the songs on the record. Of course, different angles."

MISERY INDEX will embark on a European tour with NAPALM DEATH and ROTTEN SOUND in February 2020.

Watch SABATON And APOCALYPTICA Perform Together At Helsinki Concert (Video)

Swedish metallers SABATON were joined on stage by the Finnish cello rock band APOCALYPTICA at this past Saturday's (November 23) concert in Helsinki. Together, they performed several newly arranged songs, including "Angels Calling", which was released as a single last week. Check out fan-filmed video footage below.

Said SABATON bassist Pär Sundström: "'Angels Calling' was the first song we wrote on the topic of World War 1 for the 'Attero Dominatus' album back in 2006, and together with APOCALYPTICA, we have really given the song a new life. Due to the song's topic, our recent album, the upcoming tour and a great demand from fans, the song is now back on the setlist for the tour.

"The song's arrangement was made in August, when APOCALYPTICA visited our hometown Falun to perform at the Sabaton Open Air festival. It was recorded in Black Lounge studios by Jonas Kjellgren and the APOCALYPTICA parts were later recorded in Finland.

"Richard Erixon, our longtime video producer, captured the best moments from the rehearsals in Falun and edited it into a music video for the song.

"We wanted this tour to offer something that we have never done before, and when I attended an APOCALYPTICA show in Madrid a few years ago I already had a strong vision to perform together, so I explained the idea to APOCALYPTICA and here we are, with the best show we have ever done."

"Angels Calling" was released on YouTube and will be available on all major platforms on January 17.

SABATON and APOCALYPTICA will join forces for "The Great Tour" in January 2020. The European trek, which will feature additional support from AMARANTHE, will kick off on January 17 in Zürich, Switzerland and will run through February 17 in Oslo, Norway.

Watch OZZY OSBOURNE Join POST MALONE And TRAVIS SCOTT For 'Take What You Want' Performance At AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS

Ozzy Osbourne joined Post Malone and Travis Scott on stage at the 2019 American Music Awards Sunday night (November 24) to perform Post's hit song "Take What You Want".

Malone opened the performance solo with a rendition of "Circles" before enlisting Osbourne and Scott for the "Hollywood's Bleeding" album track, with Ozzy sitting perched on a chair for much of the song.

Three days before his American Music Awards appearance, Ozzy joined Post Malone onstage at a show at the Forum in Los Angeles to perform the same song. The performance marked the first time Ozzy stepped on stage since a New Year's Eve performance nearly a year ago.

"Take What You Want", which debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart at No. 8, marked Osbourne's first Hot 100 top 10 in over 30 years, as the BLACK SABBATH singer broke the record for the most time between top 10s in the chart's 61-year history.

The 2019 American Music Awards, hosted by Ciara, are airing live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on ABC.

One of Post's producers, Andrew Watt, connected with Osbourne after meeting Ozzy's daughter Kelly at a friend's party and pitching her on the idea of Post and Ozzy collaborating together.

"Post has been a huge Ozzy fan since he was a kid," Louis Bell, who co-produced the song with Watt, told Billboard. "This was definitely a dream come true for him."

"The culture of metal music and hip-hop are very related," said Watt. "You see kids going fucking crazy at a Travis show, moshing, losing their minds — the same thing they were doing at Ozzy shows. This record in a weird way connects the culture of a kid at a hip-hop show wearing a METALLICA shirt.”

"Ozzy continues to remind the world why he's the superstar he is," added Bell. "This just continues to show people how impactful he is on music and the culture."

In an interview with The Sun, Ozzy credited the Post Malone collaboration with getting him "off his arse." The singer, who was left in intensive care earlier this year after a fight with pneumonia, explained: "I'd never even heard of this kid. He wanted me to sing on his song 'Take What You Want', so I did and then one thing led to another. I started recording a new album with Post Malone's producer Andrew Watt. It's only nine tracks but it was a catalyst to get me to where I am today.

"If it wasn't for making this record, I would still be on traction, thinking, 'I'm going to be lying here forever.' I've missed music so badly. My fans are so loyal and so good. Up until making the album, I thought I was dying. But that got me off my arse."

COZY POWELL Biography 'Dance With The Devil' Due In March

Wymer Publishing has set a March 20, 2020 publication date for "Dance With The Devil - The Cozy Powell Story".

Legendary DEEP PURPLE and RAINBOW guitarist Ritchie Blackmore once said: "You can't get any better than Cozy, you know. He's always up there on stage going crazy; he always pushes me on when I look 'round. He always gives me that incentive to play, because Cozy won't let anybody take it easy."

Ritchie wasn't wrong. Powell was a talented, reliable and versatile drummer — a drummer of such caliber that he played with Jeff Beck, RAINBOW, Michael Schenker, WHITESNAKE, EMERSON, LAKE & POWELL, BLACK SABBATH and Brian May as well as being a hugely in-demand session player. But before all that, he initially came to prominence with three Mickie Most-produced Top 20 singles under his own name. An extraordinary feat for an instrumentalist, and a drummer at that.

Powell's career as a musician is a story that needs to be told. Author Laura Shenton has a Masters degree in "Music Since 1900" from Liverpool Hope University. Aside from her detailed research, her understanding of music adds an insightful angle on Powell's abilities in this, the first and long-overdue biography of this highly talented and much missed musician that presents Powell's career in all its glory.

For more information, visit www.wymeruk.co.uk.

Powell died on April 5, 1998 following a car crash, driving his Saab 9000 in bad weather on the M4 motorway near Bristol, while talking to his girlfriend on his mobile phone. He was living at Lambourn in Berkshire at the time and had returned to the studio shortly before his death to record with FLEETWOOD MAC co-founder Peter Green. By that time, he had been the drummer on at least 66 albums, with minor contributions on many other recordings. It was generally felt that Powell's death was a great loss to the world of popular music. Countless rock-based drummers have cited Cozy Powell as an influence.

ELDER Part Ways With Drummer Matt Cuoto

Elder have announced the departure of their drummer Matt Couto earlier this month. The group have yet to name his replacement, but had the following to say of the split:

“Elder has always existed in a state of constant evolution – a product of our personal and creative development – and sometimes that means moving in different directions. With that being said, we’ve reached a point where founding member and drummer Matt Couto and Elder have decided to part ways.

When we began this band, none of us had any idea that it would become more than a hobby, a stoner rock band in tribute to our adolescent idols. 12 years and change later, we’ve travelled the world together, played more amazing gigs than we can count and made some music that we consider great – or at the very least a lot of fun.

Matt is and will always be a brother to us; he’s made a permanent impression on our lives, and we’re thankful for all the time we’ve spent together up to now, both on and off stage. His inimitable drumming style shaped all of Elder’s work, and we’ll always be indebted to him for helping establish the band’s sound.

We’ve been relatively quiet as of late, since understandably these kind of major changes in a band necessitate a bit of reflection and reorganization. However, we’re lucky to say that we’ve not had to take too much of a break or a step back and have already found our new drummer, whom we’ll introduce shortly.

Thanks for reading – more soon!”

Croatian singer Dino Jelusick, over the course of just one album and one covers EP released with his band Animal Drive, has started to make quite the name for himself in the hard rock and metal scene. More than a few musicians of note have called up Dino to see if he might be interested in collaborating, which he is floored by. This talented young singer has an appreciation and deep respect for the musical heroes who preceded and profoundly influenced him. So, when George Lynch opened the doors to the idea of writing and producing a record together, Dino was more than intrigued. Frontiers, known for releasing interesting collaborations of this nature, was more than happy to be the label home for this project.

The resulting album and band, Dirty Shirley - named after one of the first songs they wrote together - covers a wide spectrum of styles. Classic metal to more “traditional” Lynch Mob oriented sounds and even some hints of the first Badlands album are in the mix. Showcasing a stunning performance from George Lynch - a seemingly bottomless pit of inspired and creative guitar playing - and an absolutely over the top lead vocal performance from Dino, Dirty Shirley is going to be an easy 'must listen' for the hard rock and metal crowd. Evanescence drummer, Will Hunt rounds out the lineup.

Dino says, "This record was done differently from everything else I did so far. George jammed and sent me rough versions and I tried a thousand melodies and lyrics on it. It turned out fantastic and very versatile. From r&b and rock ballads to some very heavy tunes, bluesy stuff, hard rock, rock 'n' roll, grungy vibes... everything. Will was the perfect drummer for this, loud and groovy. I recorded vocals while being on tour with TSO in the bus, every evening when we had a day off. And finished it in Croatia. You gotta listen to the whole album to get the impression of it, not only singles. But the first single will surely kick your ass, so better be prepared!”

George adds, "At its core, this record is built on classic guitar riffage and grooves, but is also infused with eclectic tendencies scattered about that are unexpected and challenging. 80% of the guitar work on this record is rhythms, so I wanted to create a three-dimensional sonic tapestry that complimented the more basic riffs and chords. I tried to add a little twist to everything." He continues, "It was funny because when the label approached me about pairing up with Dino, for some reason I got the impression he was an Italian pop singer. LOL. So I wrote some songs in that vein, haha. ; ) Then when I heard what he was actually all about, I had to duck back into the laboratory and reinvent the wheel. If Ronnie James Dio and young Coverdale had a baby boy, his name would be Dino."

The band is currently exploring live show opportunities for 2020, so stay tuned for more news on Dirty Shirley!

THE AGONIST Vocalist VICKY PSARAKIS Posts Vocal Cover Of QUEEN Classic "The Show Must Go On" (Video)

The Agonist vocalist Vicky Psarakis has checked in with the following:

"Going back in time, to one of the greatest bands in history. 'The Show Must Go On' is one of my favorite songs of all time. I remember singing this in cover bands when I was younger and thinking that I need to record it one day."

September 2019 saw melodic death metal juggernaut, The Agonist, release their sixth studio album, Orphans, via Rodeostar Records. They recently shared a brand new music video for the fierce track, “The Gift Of Silence”.

On their sixth studio album, the band created a wild metal beast that feeds on melodic death metal and rock-tinged moments. In between beautifully anthemic sound walls, pounding grooves and fierce riffs, frontwoman Vicky Psarakis showcases her impressive and diverse range that evokes both rock diva and death metal maven vibes.
