The Sonic Overlords are the latest carriers of the heavy metal/hard rock flag to come out of the country of Sweden, and M-Theory Audio has announced the worldwide signing of the band to its roster.
The group will unleash their debut album later this year, but the first taste of their combination of melodic rock majesty and thunderous doom can be experienced today with their debut single, “In My Darkest Room”. The song is available now on all digital streaming and download platforms here, while its music video can be viewed below.
“We are very happy to share the news about this worldwide record deal,” says the band. “We find that M-Theory Audio has done a great job of building up an impressive roster despite being a relatively new label, and we are very excited to now be a part of that! 'In My Darkest Room' deals with the theme of the struggle against your inner demons – something that might be even more relevant than usual in these current times. Musically, it is not so much a conventional single, but rather an introduction of the musical scope of the band. Keep your eyes and ears open for more news!”
The Sonic Overlords were founded in 2017 by Swedish rock guitarist Morgan Zocek. He began jamming with various musicians and writing songs inspired by classic hard rock of the late 1970s and early 1980s, but with a more modern approach to the production and sonics. The full sound of The Sonic Overlords began to solidify with the addition of Per Soläng on drums in 2018. This was followed by the addition in 2020 of vocalist Marcus Zachrisson Rubin, who had been playing with Zocek in an Ozzy Osbourne cover band for many years, and the rumbles of new bassist Daniel Ramírez.
The group self-released their debut single “In My Darkest Room” in October 2020, accompanied by a music video directed by Per Andersson. The song soon gained rock radio airplay throughout Scandinavia and spread through mainland Europe, the US and Australia as DJs and programmers were drawn to the group's combination of powerful doom riffs and the epic and melodic majesty of 'late '70s/early '80s heavy rock with influences from the likes of Dio/Martin-era Black Sabbath, Rainbow, early Candlemass, Yngwie J. Malmsteen/Rising Force, Scorpions and MSG. That blend of power, darkness, and musicality was recognized by former Sabbath vocalist Tony Martin via a recent shout-out to “In My Darkest Room” on his social media channels.
The Sonic Overlords are currently putting the finishing touches on their debut album, set for release later this year. More news will be unveiled in the weeks ahead.
Lineup:
Marcus Zachrisson Rubin - Lead Vocals
Morgan Zocek - Guitars/Backing Vocals
Per Soläng - Drums
Daniel Ramírez - Bass/Backing Vocals
Unleashing the latest slab of their patented “bastardized” grindcore with their new album Pleine Noirceur this past November, Fuck The Facts have a new music video for the track "Dropping Like Flies". The song is a face-punching, fist-pumping smorgasbord of 90’s death metal, crust punk, and weirdness. Lyrically, the track was written by vocalist Mel Mongeon to tackle the reality of drug addiction and the opioid epidemic in certain parts of Canada pre-COVID times.
"The infection is spreading
Like a field infested with insects, with pests that multiply
Unable to treat the infection, it’s becoming larger...
...We hear you say you’re concerned, that you understand
But nothing is done
State of emergency; where are the resources?
It’s all talk
Help isn’t on the way
Communities will remain under strain
Pushed to the breaking point
Everyone is scrambling to save lives
As long as you feel their lives do not matter, they will keep dying"
Fuck The Facts has once again teamed up with director David Hall, who has been making videos for each of their albums since the release of Stigmata High-Five back in 2006.
"His unique approach to making videos has always been inspiring to us and we've always given him carte blanche (just watch our video for 'Everywhere Yet Nowhere''). For the 'Dropping Like Flies' video Dave manages to give the viewer an uncomfortable and satirical look at the devastating opioid epidemic. Highlighting just how much this issue is not taken seriously enough." says FTF's Topon Das.
Director David Hall adds: "The main inspiration for the video for 'Dropping Like Flies' came directly from Mel’s lyrics. She eloquently sings about addiction as an epidemic and society’s response: “help isn’t on the way.” I wanted to present a vision of hopelessness, the brutal ravaging of addiction, the pervasiveness of prescription meds, the economic forces that conspire, and show some faces not commonly presented as addicts: white people, senior citizens, the middle and upper class. Addiction transcends all demographics. God sends flies to wounds he should heal. Pills rain down from heaven."

Classical guitar virtuoso, Thomas Zwijsen, has released the new video below, performing an acoustic fingerstyle cover of Helloween's "Eagle Fly Free" on ukulele.
Cradle Of Filth drummer Martin "Marthus" Skaroupka has posted live drum cam video of "Beneath The Howling Stars" shot at an undisclosed show. Check it out below.
The song is taken from the band's third album, Cruelty And The Beast, released in 1998.
In the wake of Brexit, which saw the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union on January 31st, 2020, UK-based musicians are faced with increased costs for touring / work visas once the current global pandemic has been brought under control and live music is able to return. Cradle Of Filth have posted a bried message on social media:
"If you are a UK resident please sign this so that the music industry isn’t destroyed any further! Petition: Seek Europe-wide Visa-free work permit for Touring professionals and Artists: Parliament.uk/Petitions."
According to the page, British Parliament considers all petitions that get more than 100,000 signatures for a debate. At press time the petition had 222,286 signatures.
“Something Else” is the single from Silvera’s debut album, Edge Of The World. "Something Else" is one of the strongest songs in the record, building the chorus in an extremely strong bridge, which is becoming to be the trademark of the Danish band. “‘Something Else’ is reflecting on those persons that are so devoted to one thing that they push everything aside,” vocalist Michael Krogh ponders on the theme. “On one hand it is truly admirable and inspiring and on the other hand you feel sad for all of the opportunities they are missing in life”, he concludes.
It’s time for a melodic hard rock injection. Silvera, from Denmark, is heavily inspired by classic hard/heavy rock music. A musical hybrid of American radio rock like Nickelback and Alter Bridge with a Scandinavian punch, not unlike fellow Danes Volbeat. Their debut album Edge Of The World is now here, following a brilliant trail of official song videos and singles that brought the band more than 1.000.000 plays on Spotify.
Michael H Andersen CEO from Mighty Music first reaction to the album: “I've completely fallen for the Silvera album! In no way had I imagined an album this strong. This has tremendous international potential and is some of the best Danish hard rock I've released ever. Both the songwriting, production, and completion.”
Jacob Hansen, of Hansen Studios (Volbeat, Pretty Maids), where Edge Of The World was recorded, was no less impressed: "Once in a while, you come across bands that are a total hidden gem. Silvera came out of nowhere with talent and work ethic out of the ordinary!"
The band was formed in 2017 by Michael Krogh, Simon Nilsson Krabbesmark, Rasmus Lindegård Hovde, and Jens Gade. The four have been playing together since 2015 as the Danish hard rock band Malfunction. Malfunction is now dissolved and thereby made way for not only a change in name but also a slight change in the music style, broadening the span from the softer style of ballad to the punching power of hard rock.
Edge Of The World is out now in digital, CD, and vinyl formats by Mighty Music.

Dirtbag Republic frontman Sandy Hazard on the making of “Wannabees”: "Filming a video in the middle of a pandemic was a logistical nightmare, but the stars aligned and we were able to bang off a simple to the point performance video in short order with a known director."

"2021 is a meaningful one! Cadaveria celebrate two decades of activity! Thank you so much for your neverending support," says the Italian gothic metal band. "A gift for you is coming!"
Cadaveria was formed in 2001 by Cadaveria herself (vocals), one of the first women to hit the metal scene in the early '90s, and Marçelo Santos – aka Flegias – (drums), with the intent to create a virtual space where to freely express themselves as musicians and extreme artists.
The video below is set to "Free Spirit", from Cadaveria's Silence album, released in 2014.
In November 2020, Cadaveria, released their single, "Matryoshcada", to all digital platforms. A video for the track, produced by Morbid Vision, can be seen below. Download/stream the single here.
Says Cadaveria: "This video is dedicated to all the metalheads who have been close to me during my illness. It is also an opportunity for everybody to say goodbye to the 'previous me' and welcome the creature that I have become."
"Matryoshcada" concept in the singer's words: "Fragments of the past are recomposed for a moment... then they dissolve, giving light to a new creature, to a new powerful energy."
Blackened industrial doom collective, Culted, will be releasing their brand new full-length, Nous, on February 26. The band is now sharing the official music video for the new single, "Black Bird". The clip, which was created entirely by the band, can be seen below.
"'Black Bird' is about enduring the hardships of existence with a core that's been forged by fire," says the band. "Culted sift through the psychological noise of existentialism with a sound that hints at merging the primal essence of two iconic albums, namely, Darkthrone's 'Panzerfaust' and Swans' 'The Great Annihilator.' Culted, as both individuals and collective, symbolically sacrifice the ego to experience rebirth, and from those ashes arise with 'Black Bird.'"

"Black Bird" video:
From the icy expanse of the Canadian prairies to the Nordic coast of Sweden, industrial blackened doom collective Culted have long been innovators of creating music remotely, transcending both literal and metaphorical boundaries for over a decade. Michael Klassen and Matthew Friesen were first approached by Daniel Jansson to collaborate on an international project and come 2008, these ideas began to coalesce, with fellow Canadian Kevin Stevenson joining the cult. The band soon recorded and unveiled their first LP, Below the Thunders of the Upper Deep (2009), as well as the EP Of Death and Ritual (2010.)
In 2013, sophomore full-length Oblique to All Paths was released upon being written, recorded, and produced in various closets, basements, dens, and domiciles. After forming a union with Season of Mist, Culted continued their down-tempo exploration of blackened and industrial soundscapes with 2019’s mini-album, Vespertina Synaxis; A Prayer for Union and Emptiness, which was inspired by the isolation, alienation, and damnation that dominates the rime-encrusted lands Culted inhabit. Now, the band is ready to unleash their most devastating and personal opus yet, Nous.
Nous was born in turmoil after members of the band endured a period of extreme personal experiences, both psychological and physical. The creation process was informed by disease, death, and the resulting existential crises. Instead of predetermining the direction Culted would take with their third full-length, the band allowed the music to speak for itself as it came together organically. Nous was a result of its creators attempting to destroy or ignore the egoic (that chatter and everything outside of pure consciousness that attempts to sabotage you of peace and rob you of the moment) and instead, opening themselves up to the unidentifiable and nameless muse of sound.
Culted further explores their relationship with doom, black metal, and industrial on yet another experimental effort in which the band’s collective agony is translated into something both nihilistic and tangible through dissonant soundscapes. Each song is a nightmare in the abyss, dragging the listener through caverns of inexplicable darkness and suffering.
Exemplifying the themes, meditations, and diatribes of the human condition, Nous, which roughly translates to “common sense” or “practical intelligence,” explores both the religious and conspiratorial processes of the mind within the framework of critical thought. According to biblical scripture, Satan convinced Eve that the most powerful of conspirators - the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - were secretly trying to keep the first humans shrouded in a veil of ignorance, preventing them from becoming “like God” and “knowing good and evil.” Eve became the first in a long line, from Gnostics to flat-earthers, to believe powerful forces were withholding secret information. Nous attempts to know God or the inner essence or principles of created things by means of direct perception. Nous must be carefully distinguished from reason as it does not formulate abstract concepts or argue them using deductive reasoning, but rather, it understands divine truth by means of immediate experience. Thelema of the gods.
To further solidify these introspective concepts, the cover art is an interpretation of the Temptation of St. Anthony who was one of the first monks to retire to the desert to devote himself to fasting and prayer, which is an often-repeated subject in the history of art and literature, especially concerning the supernatural temptation reportedly faced by Saint Anthony during his sojourn in the Egyptian desert. The art encapsulates both the music and lyrical concept, visually.
Culted is now inviting you to open your mind, abandon your religion, and to join the cult on this existential and devastating journey.
Lineup:
Matthew Friesen - guitar, bass, keyboards, noise and percussion
Michael Klassen - guitar, bass keyboards, noise and percussion

Italian metal quartet, Ultra-Violence, has returned with a new single, “The Storm”, which showcases a more mature sound reflective of the quartet’s decade-plus of experience as a band. The video for “The Storm” can be seen below.
“’The Storm’ is the first song we completed for this cycle,” explains vocalist and band founder Loris Castiglia. “We think it's the best way to present this new era of the band to the world. The song is all about how we ‘made it through hell’ being a band in the music industry for the past 10 years - starting at the age of 15, dreaming about touring the world and doing this for a living, and being slapped in the face year after year by how hard and discouraging this journey can be. But we won't stop. This music is what makes me feel alive and the fact that doing it in a sustainable way is super hard makes me want it even more.”
Visually inspired by artists like Scarlxrd and Bring Me The Horizon, Castiglia worked on his vision with director Damiano Affinito to create a simple yet impactful video for “The Storm.” Using a stark white background and hanging neon lights to contrast with the band’s carefully chosen dark, logo-emblazoned outfits, the video allows listeners to focus on the band’s fresh sound without distraction. “It's a super exciting moment because it's the beginning of a whole new chapter for the band,” Castiglia says. “I wanted something that felt futuristic and dark at the same time. That's probably because my vision for humanity's future doesn't look so bright, so I wanted to capture that with the band.”
Founded in 2009 at the age of 15, the quartet soon signed with Candlelight/Spinefarm Records. Since then, the group has release one EP (Wildcrash) and three full-length albums (Privilege To Overcome, Deflect The Flow, Operation Misdirection) and toured Europe as main support for various bands like Exodus and Jungle Rot, hit the stages at Europe’s biggest festivals and headed to the far east for two shows in Japan.
“We started thinking about new music pretty soon after the release of our latest album Operation Misdirection,” the singer says. “With that album we completed a trilogy of albums that we call ‘The Droogs Trilogy’ and we knew that we wanted to find a new sound and a new identity for the next chapter of the band. That was one of the most exciting things ever. It was like starting all over again. It felt like writing our very first songs again but with a lot more experience than we had when we actually started in 2009. We realized we could do pretty much anything with the music and we started exploring all the possibilities, every sound and idea, but we kept only what sounded fresh and exciting. Also, I was getting better at production so we knew we could start introducing new sounds and electronic arrangements to the songs.”
For the first time ever, Ultra-Violence brought in an external writer/producer in Bad Omens guitarist Joakim ‘Jolly’ Karlsson. With his own band’s tour halted by the pandemic, Karlsson delved into the plethora of tracks Ultra-Violence had already begun work on. After a few months of collaboration, a batch of songs that perfectly channel the band’s current-day messages and emotions were completed.
“We ended up rewriting some, scrapping some and writing a couple of new ones from scratch,” says Castiglia. “Working with Jolly was amazing; he brought new ideas to the table all the time and made me feel very inspired and excited. He would send me a riff idea, I would say ‘Cool, let me work on that,’ come up with a new part and send it back to him. Same with vocals, I would send him a chorus, he would say ‘What about this instead?’ So, at the end of the day it felt like writing two records, without releasing the first one. This way our evolution is two steps ahead.”
Ultra-Violence’s new release is slated for later this year.
On February 26, Denmark's Iotunn will release their new album, Access All Worlds, via Metal Blade Records. For a first preview of the record, a video for the single "Voyage Of The Garganey I" can be found below.
Access All Worlds can be pre-ordered here in the following formats:
- digipak-CD
- 180g black vinyl (EU exclusive)
- "deep space" marbled vinyl (EU exclusive - limited to 200 copies)
- "moonscape" marbled vinyl (EU exclusive - limited to 200 copies)
- red / black dust vinyl (EU exclusive - limited to 100 copies)
- "uranus" blue / white marbled vinyl (US exclusive)
Formed in 2015, Iotunn (which is old Norse for "Giant") entered the scene with their acclaimed EP, The Wizard Falls (2016), which was mixed by Flemming Rasmussen (Metallica, Morbid Angel, Blind Guardian, Rainbow) at Sweet Silence Studios. After some line-up changes, the band found their voice and narrator in March 2018: Jón Aldará (Hamferd), plus bassist Eskil Rask (Sunless Dawn) in October 2019. The quintet - completed by Jens Nicolai Gräs (guitars), Jesper Gräs (guitars), Bjørn Wind Andersen (drums) - then began work on their first full-length and Metal Blade Records debut: Access All Worlds.
Mixed and mastered by Fredrik Nordström (In Flames, At the Gates, Dimmu Borgir) at Fredman Studios, Access All Worlds is seven songs driven by creative curiosity and artistic honesty, that also initiate feelings and reflections. An epic, cosmic and contemplative journey of energetic beauty and ferocity, Access All Worlds reflects on human existence, set in a storyline following daring space travelers. The music is grounded in roaring, colorful drumming and crushing bass, while the sonic horizon is painted with a vast spectrum of guitar-driven expression, all overarched by narration through diverse vocals. "We wanted to make an epic, strong and atmospheric yet rocking record both musically and lyrically. Jón came with the idea based on space travelers trying to find answers to the apocalypse, which reflects many of the impressions, feelings and thoughts human life holds that originates from something vast, mysterious, chaotic and breathtakingly spectacular. Everything just went berserk regarding the album theme. Is everything occurring in the lyrics just a dream? Is the album an allegory for any individual's chapters in life? Where does the album actually start and end? Stuff like that. We find that the album can be interpreted in various ways. For us, the album is a truly exciting journey, and we hope it will be for the listener as well, on his or her own terms", says guitarist Jens Nicolai.
Visually, Access All Worlds is completed by Nicole Kantor (design and layout) and Eliran Kantor (artwork), known for their work with Testament, Atheist, Hatebreed, Soulfly, etc.
Access All Worlds tracklisting:
"Voyage Of The Garganey I"
"Access All Worlds"
"Laihem's Golden Pits"
"Waves Below"
"The Tower Of Cosmic Nihility"
"The Weaver System"
"Safe Across The Endless Night"
Italian masters of Pagan folk metal start 2021 with some great news: after an extremely successful streaming event of pre-recorded concert, Live Invocations, in November 2020, Elvenking decided to make the concert available for all fans worldwide. The special live session took place at The Central Recording Studios in Crevada, Italy, and has been a heartfelt wish of the band in this devastating year for live music industry. Check out the video below.
This way, the band is able to connect to their fans worldwide and offer distraction from the whole situation since the November/December tour had to be canceled due to comprehensive restrictions.
Said Elvenking: "Dear Elvenlegions, as promised here is some news about the Live Invocations live studio performance stream. We know that some of you couldn't watch it the first time so we decided to make the stream available permanently to give you all the chance to experience it. It can also be a good occasion to re-watch it if you caught this event back in November."
The Nova Hawks are a British blues rock n' roll band centred around two talented musicians in vocalist Heather Leoni and guitarist Rex Roulette. Look out for the bands stomping blues-rock debut, Redemption, on February 12. Pre-order here. A lyric video for the title track "Redemption" can be found below.
The songs The Nova Hawks concocted for their debut album, Redemption, came about while writing between London, the West Midlands, New York, and Los Angeles. They found their musical path by binding the styles of each unique location where they wrote, adding the roots of British rock, the desert sounds of California, the rawkus leads of New York City, the smokey ambience of London, and then spiced up the mixture by looking to the gospel roots of the blues.
"Each song on the album will tell it's own story, intertwining personal memoirs of love, heartbreak, overcoming loss and life, defining personal experiences to date. We incorporated these themes within the lyrics to counterbalance each instrument on the album, which pave their own path too. Combined with Gospel Roots and exploring darker themes, this album is something we are truly proud of,” says singer Heather Leoni.

The past December, Allegaeon released a new digital single, "Concerto In Dm" - featuring the title track and B-side, "In Flanders Fields". Now, the band has launched an acoustic video for "In Flanders Fields" (shot by Matthew Zinke), which can be viewed below.
Greg Burgess (guitars) comments: "In 1915, Canadian poet and military doctor Major John McCrae lost one of his best friends to a German artillery shell, during the second battle of Ypres. Inspired by grief, McCrae began the first draft of 'In Flanders Fields'. Three years afterwards, the poem had such an impact, people started honoring soldiers by wearing poppies on their lapels. Being from the US, I was unaware of this poem and tradition, until we were on tour in Canada with NeObliviscaris in 2018. After being stranded by an ice storm in Ottawa, I was introduced to this poem and it struck a chord with me - inevitably this piece of the same name followed. As for the video - do we really need another classical video set in a beautiful place, having the performer with eyes closed perform? Probably not. Do we need a video where we have the juxtaposition of a classical guitarist in a beautiful place, while repping tech death? Survey says...why not!"
WHITESNAKE celebrates the blues sound that helped inspire its multi-platinum career on a new collection that features remixed and remastered versions of the group's best blues-rock songs. "The Blues Album" is the third and final release in the band's "Red, White And Blues" trilogy, a series of compilations organized by musical themes that began last year with "Love Songs" (red) and "The Rock Album" (white).
"The Blues Album" is available for pre-order now, and will be available on February 19 digitally and on CD and as a double-LP set pressed on 180-gram, blue vinyl. Like "The Rock Album" and "Love Songs", all the tracks on "The Blues Album" have been revisited, remixed, and remastered.
WHITESNAKE's singer-songwriter David Coverdale says, the music reflects how blues artists like Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, and the three Kings (Albert, B.B. and Freddie) continue to inspire him. In the album's liner notes, he writes: "It's hard to find the words to show how profoundly they connected with my soul. But 'blues' to me is a beautiful word that describes emotional expression… feelings, be it feelings of sadness, loneliness, emptiness… but also those that express great joy, celebration and dance, sexiness and love!!!"
The new compilation delivers a potent mix of hits and deep tracks that originally appeared between 1984 and 2011 on six WHITESNAKE studio albums and Coverdale's solo album, "Into The Light".
"The Blues Album" showcases two of the band's biggest songs: "Slow An' Easy", a Top 20 Mainstream Rock hit in 1984 from WHITESNAKE's double-platinum album "Slide It In", and a brand new guitar-based remix of the smash hit "Give Me All Your Love" from the band's 1987 self-titled album, which was certified multi multi platinum. Other choice tracks from WHITESNAKE are also featured: "Looking For Love" and "Crying In The Rain" and "Steal Your Heart Away", which is available now.
"Restless Heart" (1997), "Good to Be Bad" (2008) and "Forevermore" (2011) are all represented on "The Blues Album" by multiple tracks ("Too Many Tears", "A Fool In Love" and "Steal Your Heart Away"). The collection also includes "If You Want Me", a studio recording released in 2006 as a bonus track on the live album "Live… In The Shadows Of The Blues". Coverdale also taps his 2000 solo album, "Into The Light", for "River Song".
The metal world was shocked and saddened earlier this week by the news of the passing of metal guitar legend, Children Of Bodom's Alexi Laiho. As one of the most influential guitarists of his generation, the loss of his unquestionable impact is felt around the globe by metal musicians who he inspired.
Members of Immortal Guardian are just a few of those who admired and were impacted by Laiho's musical leadership.
In recognition of his monumental career and effect on them as fans and songwriters, Immortal Guardian guitarist Gabriel Guardian, vocalist Carlos Zema and drummer Justin Piedimonte along with friends Mary Zimmer (Helion Prime), Semir Özerkan (Oceans Of Slumber), and Rex VanCandy are sharing a tribute video covering Children Of Bodom's track "Downfall".
Gabriel Guardian comments: "This is our tribute to one of the greatest metal guitar players who ever lived: Alexi Laiho. This man influenced me in ways no other guitar player ever has. Alexi set the bar for all of us! Him and Santana are my top 2 favorite guitar players of all time. I watched all his live videos/DVDs religiously as a kid and was so influenced by all the legendary music Children Of Bodom and Sinergy made to be like them. Those dual guitar/keyboard leads set the vibe/bar for me for many many years learning how to play music. I’m so sad to see the world has one less guitar legend. His music helped me get through some of my darkest days and he inspired me to make metal music from day one.
"Big thanks to my friends who collaborated with me to make this tribute happen. We are all Bodom fans and had so much fun making this video. We are all so saddened by the news and we coped with it by doing what we do best, playing music. I hope where ever Alexi is, he can hear our tribute and feel the infinite amounts of love all his fans have for him. Until we meet again... RIP Alexi Laiho (WildChild)."
