SIMULACRUM Release "Arrhythmic Distortions"; Audio / B-Roll Studio Footage

Simulacrum, the progressive metal band hailing from Finland, will release their third album overall, Genesis, on February 12 via Frontiers Music Srl. The album is a stunningly strong statement for the progressive metal world with hard hitting melodic progressive metal paying homage to the great prog bands of the ‘70s without forgetting to blend in the best elements of the genre’s current direction.

Fans can get a taste of the album with today's premiere of the new video, "Arrhythmic Distortions" (Official Audio / B-Roll Studio Footage). Watch the clip below, and pre-order/save Genesis here.

The roots of Simulacrum go back to 1999 when Christian “Chrism” Pulkkinen started writing his first batch of songs, which a few years later would end up on the band’s debut album, The Master and the Simulacrum (2012). In 2015, the band's sophomore album, Sky Divided, a concept album revolving around a classic 'War of the Worlds' type story with an alien race attacking planet earth for its resources, was released. The album was a big evolutionary step for the band, with some straightforward power and thrash metal tunes joining 10 minute epics that payed homage to the prog giants of the '70s and '90s. The album was a bit more polished compared to the debut, from how the songs were performed to continuity throughout the album. As with the debut, Simulacrum received quite a bit of praise in the metal media and showed that they were becoming a force to reckon with.

After the release of Sky Divided, the band started the process of enlisting some new members in the creation of their next album. Simulacrum parted ways with drummer Henri Kallio and enlisted Tatu Turunen as their new drummer. The band also started thinking outside of the box and instead of having one frontman, they decided to make the move to have two lead vocalists. After extensive auditions, Erik Kraemer was chosen to join the band. He has a tone that varies enough from original frontman Niklas Broman's style and also has the range required to sing the sometimes very difficult vocal lines, which makes for a perfect combination between the two.

The band then slowly started putting together ideas for a new album, the demos for which caught the attention of Frontiers Music Srl, who snapped up the band for a multi-album deal.

Tracklisting:

"Traumatized"
"Nothing Remains"
"Arrhythmic Distortions"
"Like You, Like Me"
"Scorched Earth"
"Genesis Part 1: The Celestial Architect"
"Genesis Part 2: Evolution Of Man"

DEMON HEAD Launches Music Video For New Single "The Feline Smile"

On January 29, Demon Head will release their new album, Viscera, via Metal Blade Records. For a first preview of the record, a video for the new single, "The Feline Smile", can be viewed below.

Demon Head comments: "Today we give you 'The Feline Smile', the second single from our 4th album Viscera. 12-string guitar and pipe organ initiates the song's many changes. Mellotron arrangements accompany brittle vocal harmonies developing into a climax of cryptic guitar solos. A song of haunting and hidden pleasure; the untamed wild of the feline smile. A cut-up video assemblage by David Thelen reveals artwork from the album."

Viscera can be pre-ordered here in the following formats:

- hardcover digisleeve-CD
- 180g clear deluxe edition vinyl w/ o-card, backpatch, and poster (Kings Road exclusive - limited to 300 copies)
- 180g black vinyl (EU exclusive)
- clear ash grey marbled vinyl (EU exclusive - limited to 250 copies)
- dark red / black marbled vinyl (EU exclusive - limited to 250 copies)
- clear / black dust vinyl (Kings Road exclusive - limited to 100 copies)
- clear brown marbled vinyl (US exclusive)

Demon Head is comprised of five internationally based and widely acclaimed musicians; Mikkel Sander Fuglsang, Birk Gjerlufsen Nielsen, Marcus Ferreira Larsen, Thor Gjerlufsen Nielsen and Jeppe Wittus. Though hesitant to compromise the description of the music they perform through generalizing terms of genre, they've coined the term "diabolic rock" as an appropriate presentation.

Their fourth full-length - Viscera - is a new beginning for Demon Head. Recorded during the first months of 2020 between the legendary Sweet Silence Studios by Flemming Rasmussen (Metallica, Morbid Angel, Rainbow) and a remote country house in Sweden, the album was mixed by Martin 'Konie' Ehrencrona (In Solitude, Tribulation, Nifelheim). The production shows the impeccable qualities of joined forces, where old techniques meet new aesthetics, and major label possibilities meet underground, uncompromising DIY dedication. The resulting 10 songs showcase acoustic instruments, flourishing mellotron strings, brass instruments, tape manipulation and church organ - displayed in equal measure to the sound of the crushing drums of J.W, cryptic guitars of brothers B.G.N and T.G.N, pounding bass lines of M.S.F, and the vocals of M.F.L combined with the eerily captivating falsetto and baryton of B.G.N.

Demon Head comments: "We are now ready to offer You 'Viscera'. It contains more of us than any album we have made before, and we hope that You will welcome it as sincerely as it will welcome You."

Viscera tracklisting:

"Tooth And Nail"
"The Feline Smile"
"Arrows"
"Magical Death"
"The Lupine Choir"
"A Long, Groaning Descent"
"In Adamantine Chains"
"Black Torches"
"Wreath"
"The Triumphal Chariot Of Antimony"

"The Triumphal Chariot Of Antimony" video:

Demon Head will play a release show on January 30 at Pumpehuset in Copenhagen. "A release ceremony will take place in Copenhagen when this year is newly dead. Tokens for the passage are available here."

Demon Head lineup:

Mikkel Sander Fuglsang - bass
Birk Gjerlufsen Nielsen - guitars
Marcus Ferreira Larsen - vocals
Thor Gjerlufsen Nielsen - guitars
Jeppe Wittus - drums

THE FLOWER KINGS Launch Music Video For New Song "Black Swan"

Back in October 2020, progressive rockers The Flower Kings released their new double album, Islands, via InsideOutMusic, just a year after the group’s much celebrated Waiting For Miracles. Today, the band have launched a brand new video for the track "Black Swan".

Roine Stolt comments: “'Black Swan' was a little piano melody I wrote around spring 2019 - I thought of it as 'Polish melancholic' or a ballet piano piece. I did present a demo for the Transatlantic sessions but when it didn't stick there I brought it along to the TFK ‘Islands’ session. Here it found its way in to the album and concept and with a slightly more dry guitar-driven sound and with nods to both The Beatles & Queen it became one of my favourite tracks. Hasse delivers some of his finest vocal on the album here.”

The 92-minutes long Islands features artwork by legend Roger Dean (Yes, Asia, Gentle Giant, Greenslade, Uriah Heep) and all trademark sounds and melodies, the band is renowned for. From vintage keys to epic guitar solos, from odd drum patterns to symphonic elements, The Flower Kings present a dynamic and complex record that is bold, bombastic and beautiful.

Islands is available as massive Limited 3LP & 2CD box set with slipcase and 180 gram vinyl housed in two gatefolds, one single sleeve; as Limited Edition 2CD Digipak and Digital Album. Pre-order here.

THUNDER HORSE Issue "Let Them Bleed" Video

Texas-based heavy mongers Thunder Horse announce the release of their new album Chosen One, to be issued on March 12th through Ripple Music, and share their rocking video for "Let Them Bleed".

About their new video, the band comments: "Our debut single 'Let Them Bleed' from our upcoming Ripple Music release, Chosen One, is an anthem for these tumultuous times. Filled with angst, frustration, and bitterness against the entire American political system, regardless of ideology, 'Let Them Bleed' lays it on the table. It us against them, not us against each other! Love your brother and sister… we have to have each others' backs. Things are going to get better if we stick together. Cheers from Texas!"

The sound of San Antonio's Thunder Horse doesn’t quite fit into one box, but they are built thick with doom, psych, occult, and classic rock and blues influences. Close your eyes and imagine the brooding sounds of early Sabbath, the massive wall of guitars made famous by bands like Deep Purple and Mountain, on a sonically mesmerizing Pink Floyd trip, and you will have a taste of the experience that Thunder Horse brings.

Chosen One artwork and tracklisting:

"Let Them Bleed"
"Among The Dead"
"Rise Of The Heathens"
"Chosen One"
"Broken Dreams"
"Song For The Ferryman"
"Texas"
"Halfway To Hell"
"Remembrance"
"Dear Mr. Fantasy" (bonus track)
"Texas" (extended version)

Thunder Horse is led by vocalist and guitarist Stephen Bishop, a mainstay for many years on the Texas industrial metal scene as the frontman for Pitbull Daycare (Cleopatra Records, MIA Records). Aided and abetted by fellow PD founder, T.C. Connally is the lead guitarist. With each’s playing influenced in no small part by some of the most iconic band members of the late '60s and '70s – Roger Waters, Michael Schenker, Tony Iommi, and Robin Trower – together, Thunder Horse‘s songwriting duties are divvied equally, in line with a passion for all things heavy.

Taking a DIY approach, Thunder Horse released their self-titled debut in 2018. Original lineup intact, the band now returns with their second full-length, Chosen One, once again featuring original artwork by Pig Hands, and mixing done by Caleb Bingham at Nightmare Sound and mastering by Joe Bozzi at Bernie Grundman Mastering in Los Angeles, CA.

Chosen One is a musical journey that expands the band’s catalog by experimenting with different sounds and influences. Metal played slow and low, with an intensity inspired by icons past and present. A wall of amps and an almost tribal rhythmic vibe produces a guttural sound with intensely mind-bending sensations. Imagine if Black Sabbath and Jane’s Addiction melded into one band and had a Pink Floyd influenced stage show with a Quadraphonic PA: that is Thunder Horse. The album was completed in 2020 while socially-distanced during the pandemic, and will see its official release on March 12th, 2021 via Ripple Music.

(0) Debut "Skarntyder" Music Video

Danish progressive black metal enigma, (0), starts off 2021 with an intense video for their single "Skarntyder", taken from their debut album, SkamHan, released in April 2020 via Napalm Records.

The video leads straight into the pit of a sweaty concert hall, filled with intensity and bursting energy. In front of an electrified crowd, the Danish wrecking machine bursts of dedication and will. It states clear that (0) is more than ready to deliver their colossal and brutish live performances all over the world. There is a lot to expect from this monster, once unleashed!

Brutal riffs and forcing drums, followed by an unmistakably grim guitar solo - “Skarntyder” sets the story of people who as children are branded as difficult and weak, and thus scorned by society, to music. The imaginary Danish word “Skarntyder” describes a person that points out and brands a person that misbehaves or doesn’t fit in. FJ’s dark growls paired with an intense and exhilarating atmosphere round off the song in perfect harmony and pull the listener even farther into their somber void.

Watch the energetically bursting official video for “Skarntyder” below.

The band states: “In 2020 we released our debut album SkamHan, and we learned that releasing an album during a worldwide pandemic significantly changes your plans. On March 11th 2020 final cut and edit for the Skarntyder video started, and on the same night Denmark was shut down, leaving the video in an unfinished state that we were not willing to release. Today we are thrilled to finally release the video for Skarntyder, the 2nd single from SkamHan. The video was shot by Michael Panduro and Rasmus G. Sejersen. Edit and post production was done by Rasmus G. Sejersen. Skarntyder is a frantic track about a person who is branded as weak or difficult. Someone who doesn't fit in. The track has quickly become a band favorite when playing live, as the energy and desperation from the track really comes to life when performing it live. Playing it feels like running downhill, on the verge of tumbling over. Hopefully we will get to play it live a lot more in 2021 than in 2020. Enjoy!"

SkamHan is available in the following formats:

- CD Digipak
- Gatefold Black Vinyl
- Digital Album

SkamHan tracklisting:

"Tyndere End Hud"
"Sjælstjæler"

INTERLOPER Release Drum Playthrough Video For "An Emerald Flame"

Nuclear Blast recently announced the signing of progressive heavy metal vehicle, Interloper. Today, the band presents a drum playthroug video for the song, "An Emerald Flame". Watch below.

The group's first collective effort as a band; A Revenant Legacy EP, is available now. Stream/download the EP here.

The band comments, "We are pleased to present to you, after much time, our first collective effort as Interloper: A Revenant Legacy. It has been a long time coming, to say the least. This band, as some of you may know, has undergone a variety of changes, the most important of which being the evolution of the music we write. Although the five songs that make up A Revenant Legacy came about over the course of a few years, the majority of them for one reason or another never saw the light of day upon completion. Rather than abandon them in the wake of the full length, we have decided to let them guide the way. The path our listeners would have otherwise taken over time all along, we now offer as one body of work. Please enjoy A Revenant Legacy - the journey traveled in the pursuit of what makes Interloper, Interloper."

A Revenant Legacy was recorded and produced in house at Sewn Shut Sounds by the band themselves, with mixing and production from producer, friend, and honorary ‘4th member’ Joey Virrueta. With a full length album completed and set for release in the near future, this EP serves as a stepping stone in the development of Interloper as a whole.

HELLTRAIL Release "Constant Resistance" Music Video

German metal band, Helltrail, have released their new single, “Constant Resistance”. An official music video for the song can be seen below. The band's debut album, Off A Six Foot Town, was released at the end of 2019. Now they follow up with the new single, another heavy metal grenade.

Nowadays a song title like “Constant Restistance” can be misunderstood quite easily. Therefore, a video statement about Helltrail’s general songwriting and the meaning of the song in particular is available (see below).

Due to the pandemic, Helltrail also had to cancel all planned shows last year, but the quartet didn't spend their time sitting around. As singer/ guitarist Achim Lanzendorf, musical head of the band stated: "We’ve spent a lot of time, finishing every new song in detail. Beside this we build up a new team around the band, ranging from audio to public relations, to give the whole thing another push forward."

The style of the band still follows the traditions of Motörhead, Black Label Society and Psychopunch, furious guitar attacks like early Metallica and Megadeth, up to thrashy uptempo beats in the style of Testament. The already proven heavy grooves, catchy melodies and shout chorus parts of the last album will be completed in 2021 by a new and also more brute force sound.

The release of the 4-track EP Always Shoot Twice is announced for April 16. Three more songs will show the wide variety of the band’s musical spectrum. Additionally, fans can also look forward to another video.

Despite the recently extended lockdown, they are already busy negotiating new live shows in the background. After all, they want to perform their heavy grooves in front of an audience again soon. "We definitely don't create our music just for the studio, but first and foremost for the clubs and stages of this world!"

Lineup:

Achim Lanzendorf - Vocals, Guitars
Kalli Wilms - Bass, Vocals
Alex Leu - Guitars, Vocals
Guido Baumann - Drums

Exclusive: ASPHALT VALENTINE Premiere "Saving" Video

HighVolMusic artists Asphalt Valentine have released their new video for “Saving” through BraveWords! The track is the third single from their new album, Twisted Road, out now.

Vocalist Joe Flynt comments on the video: “I called up my buddy Matt Bryant from Muse Cinematic with the idea for the video. He had just gotten invited to the Cannes Film Festival for a short video he did. It took some convincing as we had to build the studio from scratch to do a proper green screen. After months of construction, we just let Matt and Andrew Burn from Residual Images have artistic control over the filming and post-production. We were blown away by the final product. They really nailed the storyline and brought the feeling of the song into an amazing visual. I think when people watch the video they will really connect with the song from their own past experiences.”

The band set out to write and perform songs with that tone in mind. Influenced by every musical note they have ever heard, Asphalt Valentine fused them all together: the attitude of punk, the glam of decadence, the melody of pop, the blare of hard rock, the naiveté of youth, the worn weariness of country, and the soul of the rhythm and the blues.

IMMORTAL GUARDIAN Shares "Fall" Sing-Through Video

Progressive / power metal quartet Immortal Guardian has filmed a new sing-through video showcasing vocalist Carlos Zema as he performs the song "Fall" from the Age Of Revolution album, which was released in 2018.

The band urges fans to visit their online shop to pre-order their new album, Psychosomatic, which will be released on February 12th via M-Theory Audio.

Immortal Guardian previously unveiled a music video for “Lockdown”, the second single from their forthcoming concept album, Psychosomatic. The clip, which showcases the group cleverly adapting to the same stay-at-home conditions that are affecting millions of people around the world at this moment can be viewed below.

"Rich or poor, it doesn't matter, every human this year experienced some kind of lockdown/isolation during this insane year,” says guitarist / keyboardist Gabriel Guardian. “We couldn't even just meet up because our borders were on lockdown for international travel. Thank god for the internet, as we were able to still create music and keep each other company online even with thousands of miles between each member. 'Lockdown' talks about all of the same questions we all have been asking ourselves since the start of the pandemic. Where did this all come from? Who's to blame? Is the lockdown saving more lives than it's destroying? We can only keep making music through these crazy times and hope for a better tomorrow."

Tracklisting:

"Psychosomatic"
"Read Between The Lines"
"Lockdown"
"Phobia"
"Clocks"
"Self-Isolation"
"Goodbye To Farewells"
"Candlelight"
"Find The Reason"
"New Day Rising"

After winning over new audiences with their acclaimed 2018 debut full-length Age of Revolution and touring relentlessly alongside fellow shredders such as Marty Friedman, Powerglove, and Exmortus, Immortal Guardian gathered in Las Vegas earlier this year to begin recording their second album. As the spread of COVID-19 and the subsequent pandemic began to ensue, each member of the band retreated to their respective hometowns. With shutdowns around the world being enforced, the band completely scrapped the record that they had been working on and were heavily inspired to write and create a new thematic record about their emotions surrounding current events.

The video for “Read Between The Lines” - produced and directed by SBLGA - also saw the members of Immortal Guardian contributing remotely from their respective homes, and shows off the continued refinement of their full-frontal assault of anthemic melodies, technical rhythms, furious shred and high-flying vocals.

Psychosomatic is the next step in Immortal Guardian’s evolution while still capturing the band’s exhilarating trademark melding of melodic power metal with progressive / shred tendencies.

Immortal Guardian is:

Gabriel Guardian – guitars / keyboards
Carlos Zema – vocals
Justin Piedimonte – drums
Josh Lopez – bass

JOEL HOEKSTRA'S 13 Premier "Finish Line" Music Video

Joel Hoekstra, best known to rock fans as the current guitarist for Whitesnake and Trans-Siberian Orchestra (and also known for his work with Night Ranger and the Broadway show Rock Of Ages), returns with his second album, Running Games from his electrifying solo project, Joel Hoekstra’s 13 on February 12. Joined by Russell Allen (vocals), Tony Franklin (bass), Vinny Appice (drums), and Derek Sherinian (keyboards), Joel and company pick up where his debut, Dying To Live left off.

Get a taste of the album with the new video for the song "Finish Line", available below. Pre-order/save the album here.

Hoekstra once again handles the bulk of the creative process, overseeing production, songwriting and arranging (music and lyrics), and crafting his vision for this powerful hard rock gem. Add Chris Collier’s masterful mixing and the result is ‘70s/’80s classic hard rock with 2020’s muscle. As with the debut, Running Games features an all-star cast of musicians including none other than Russell Allen (vocals), Tony Franklin (bass), Vinny Appice (drums), and Derek Sherinian (keyboards). The amazing Jeff Scott Soto also lends a helping hand with background vocals.

Says Joel, “Years ago, I released three solo albums that were mainly instrumental guitar music. With Joel Hoekstra's 13, I have started to work on something that showcases my production, writing, and playing in the genre that I'm known for, which is melodic hard rock.”

Like Dying To Live, Running Games can be described as Dio’ish at it’s heaviest, but is also influenced by the blues- based sound of Whitesnake as well as melodic bands like Foreigner, Journey, and the like.

Hoekstra says, "‘Hard To Say Goodbye’ definitely represents the more melodic sound of the album, but rock fans can also look forward to some aggressive tracks."

On Running Games, lyrically Joel focuses on escaping problems both past and present by providing playful, imaginary, and serious takes on the situations.

Long hailed for his fiery, tasteful guitar playing, Hoekstra’s playing here raises the bar to a new level.

SEASON OF GHOSTS Release Official Performance Footage Video For "Listen"

Season Of Ghosts have released an official video for "Listen", taken from the band's second studio album, A Leap Of Faith, released October 23rd, 2018. The clip features live footage taken during the band's 2019 European tour.

Season Of Ghosts vocalist / founder Sophia Aslanides is featured in a new interview discussing the band's plans for the follow-up to their 2018 album, A Leap Of Faith. Following is an excerpt from the story:

“The first album was just me wanting to combine a million different things," Sophia reveals. "It was like, 'This is going on the album. I don’t care if it doesn’t fit. I’m going to put it in there because it makes sense to me.' Everybody was freaking out and calling me crazy, but that was me manifesting my passion project. I think every artist is guilty of doing that at the beginning, but looking back I wouldn’t change a thing about The Human Paradox. I agree with you, though, that A Leap Of Faith has a much better flow to it, and that’s due to (guitarist) Zombie Sam’s influence.”

“What I promised to myself is that the third album would be more aggressive and more electronic oriented compared to A Leap Of Faith. We’re going to take both albums, the best of both worlds, and add a new element. To be honest, if I wanted to just perform the same thing over and over Sam would boil me alive in a cauldron (laughs). He refuses not to evolve, he is always coming up with new stuff.”

Following an off-the-cuff acoustic rendition of Blood Satin Child's “Stargazer” during one of the dynamic duo’s now infamous Bickering With Sam And Sophia live streams, positive fan reaction convinced them to go in and shoot an “official” live acoustic performance of the song. Since then the push has been on for Season Of Ghosts to record an acoustic album.

“‘Stargazer’ turned out well and that’s thanks to Sam because he came up with the arrangement. We’ve had very persistent requests to release an acoustic album; whether it would be digital or physical or both I don’t know, but we’ve had considerable pressure to do that. It’s going to happen, probably as an EP.”

SACRIFICE Return With "World War V"

Just prior to Christmas, legendary Canadian thrash metal quartet, Sacrifice, began streaming the demo version of a brand new song, "World War V", from their as yet untitled new album, which is presumably due sometime in 2021.

The band has since taken that rough version of "World War V" offline and replaced it with a new, better mix which can be heard below. "A small sampler of what we've been up to since the travel bans came into effect," says Sacrifice. "Across the continent from our homes to yours. Enjoy."

Sacrifice's last studio album, The Ones I Condemn, was released in 2009.

DEAR MOTHER Featuring Former DELAIN Guitarist MEREL BECHTOLD Release New Single "12 Years In Exile"; Debut Album To Be Released In 2021

Former Delain guitarist Merel Bechtold, who left the band in June 2019, has launched Dear Mother with vocalist David Pear and drummer Joey Marin de Boer. They have released their first single, "12 Years In Exile" and the official video is available below. A second single will be released soon and Dear Mother debut album will be released some time in 2021.

Delain issued the following band statement when Bechtold announced her departure from the band:

"Today we are sharing the news with you that Merel has decided to leave Delain and focus on different musical ambitions. Merel’s performance with us at Graspop will be her last show as a permanent band member of Delain. We are aware this is very short notice, and this we regret for those of you who wanted to catch a last show with her as a part of the team. However, this is a friendly departure, and we are respecting Merel’s wishes in doing so. We had an amazing ride sharing the stage with this fireball and we are excited to see the results of her new endeavours."

"Although we will miss Merel on the road with us, we realize that our busy schedules require loads of time and commitment, and we understand and respect her decision to focus on her own path. We will continue performing live as a five-piece as before, and look forward to finishing the work for our upcoming studio album, the upcoming festival season, our US tour with Amorphis and Anneke van Giersbergen and our European Masters Of Destiny Tour. We hope to see you all soon! Thank you Merel, we wish you nothing but the best!"

Bechtold issued the following statement on he decision to leave Delain:

"After almost five amazing years the time has come for me to focus on my own dreams. Because of my previous band commitments my attention diverged from my own music and the path I want to follow, and I feel I need to give myself the time and opportunity to explore my musical ambitions. This is probably the hardest decision of my life, but in the end it’s important to follow your heart and be happy. I want to thank my bandmates and crew, I will miss you dearly! Also huge thanks to all the amazing people I’ve met on the road. And most importantly I want to thank YOU for all those amazing and warm memories! It’s been a pleasure."
