ANTHRAX

ANTHRAX's FRANK BELLO On LEMMY: 'He Made It Okay To Be Yourself'

ANTHRAX bassist Frank Bello has paid tribute to Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister, saying that the iconic MOTÖRHEAD frontman "made it okay to be yourself."

Speaking to Chicago Now, Bello said: "The legacy of Lemmy is he is an amazing icon as we all know. Lemmy was also just a really great dude, a really nice guy when you talk to him. He was just a really good guy. He'd talk about anything. For me, particularly, it was about bass and tones and rock and roll tones and stuff like that. Just a really good guy."

He continued: "You know what the great thing about Lemmy was, for me, even before I was friends with him? I thought that Lemmy always did it his way. He made it okay to be yourself. For me, that meant a lot growing up. Seeing him, he was himself no matter what and he didn't care what anybody else said. I think that carries a lot with people. A lot of people can relate to that. I certainly did. I still do to this day. I think that can really translate and go across to a lot of people."

Bello added: "There will never be another Lemmy. God rest his soul. I'm glad for his time on earth and the music he left us."

Lemmy, who celebrated his 70th birthday on Christmas Eve (December 24), learned two days later that he was afflicted with an aggressive form of cancer. He died two days later, on December 28, at his home in Los Angeles.

The MOTÖRHEAD frontman had dealt with several health issues over the past few years, including heart trouble, forcing him to cut back on his famous smoking and Jack Daniels habits.

The band was forced to cancel a number of shows last year, although they did manage to complete one final European tour on December 11.

DAVE MUSTAINE Says LEMMY

DAVE MUSTAINE Says LEMMY 'Had A Very Childlike Side To Him'

MEGADETH leader Dave Mustaine has paid tribute to MOTÖRHEAD frontman Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister, calling him a "giant" who stayed true to his initial, throwback aesthetic until the very end.

During a December 29 appearance on Ozzy's Boneyard (SiriusXM channel 38), Mustaine said about Lemmy (hear audio below): "Those of us that were really close to Lemmy knew that he was giving everything he had left to continue to let the show go on, but also knew that he was really frail. What a giant, though."

Mustaine also talked about his initial meeting with Lemmy. He said: "I think the very first time we played with them was back in 1985 at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium with MOTÖRHEAD, the PLASMATICS singer Wendy O. Williams and her solo project, and then we opened. That was the start of the big famous dating [or] whatever thing between Gar [Samuelson, then-MEGADETH drummer] and Wendy for a couple of days and our first little skirmish with MOTÖRHEAD. And we've had a very real, very close relationship ever since, because it just kind of started off on a, 'Hey, well, you may be MOTÖRHEAD, but we're MEGADETH' kind of thing, and I think that really set the relationship, because we had gotten so close over the years."

He continued: "I remember playing at the Gods Of Metal [festival] in Italy, and their bus broke down, and either they were gonna get their show canceled or we had to take their time slot and go on earlier and give them our time slot, and we graciously said, 'Yeah,' because, you know, it's Lemmy. C'mon! It's MOTÖRHEAD."

According to Mustaine, MOTÖRHEAD's influence can still be heard in MEGADETH's music to this day. He said: "It's funny. I was just thinking the other day. On our new record, we have a song that's very 'Fast' Eddie-style playing. But I didn't even realize how much that kind of quick English riffing had influenced me, 'cause MOTÖRHEAD has a style that's really cool [and] all its own."

Recalling the final time he spoke to Lemmy, Mustaine said: "The last time we had a really long conversation, I would say, would have been on the last Gigantour that he had done, when MOTÖRHEAD went out with MEGADETH a couple of years ago."

He continued: "Lemmy was one of those real kind of dudes that, if he liked you, he liked you. You didn't have to have one of these fake kind of friendships that have to be on life support all the time in order for it to be a friendship. I'm sure you know plenty of people like that. I've got a lot of people in my life."

In a separate interview with New Zealand's The Rock FM, Mustaine said about the MOTÖRHEAD frontman: "Lemmy and I were friends, and we'd toured together many times, spent a lot of time hanging out. Not as much as some of his, like, real full-on friends in Los Angeles, but when we toured, we spent time together, and there were numerous, numerous dates that we'd done together."

Mustaine added: "He had a very childlike side to him that I saw. One time he invited me into his tour bus to show me some of his memorabilia that he had gotten. He was a World War II memorabilia collector. And just to be taken into his private living environment, to see something that really meant something to him meant the world to me, 'cause this is a guy that was legendary when I started. And for him to wanna show me something that means something to him meant that I meant something to him, and it was the coolest feeling in the world."

HOLLYWOOD VAMPIRES To Pay Musical Tribute To LEMMY At GRAMMY AWARDS

HOLLYWOOD VAMPIRES To Pay Musical Tribute To LEMMY At GRAMMY AWARDS

According to Rolling Stone, HOLLYWOOD VAMPIRES, the supergroup featuring international film star and musician Johnny Depp alongside Alice Cooper and AEROSMITH's Joe Perry, will pay tribute to late MOTÖRHEAD frontman Lemmy Kilmister by performing a MOTÖRHEAD classic at the Grammy Awards next week. The ceremony will air live on CBS on February 15. "We started this band as a means to toast our 'dead drunk friends' at the Rainbow, all the ghosts in the bar, and now I guess Lemmy is involved in that, too," Cooper tells Rolling Stone.

"He was always funny," he continues. "I'm a 'healed' alcoholic and I haven't had anything to drink in 35 years. A lot of people that drink always feel a little bit like they owe an explanation to me. A couple weeks before his death, Lemmy came up to me and said, 'Alice, I've quit drinking.' And he's got a glass in his hand. And I go, 'Really?' And he says, 'Yeah, I don't drink whiskey anymore. I drink vodka.' And I went, 'Lemmy, do you think your liver has any idea what color the alcohol is?' He said, well it's a step down from whiskey.' And I went, 'OK. Any step's a good step.'"

HOLLYWOOD VAMPIRES is planning to perform a new song called "As Bad As I Am" as well as a cover of MOTÖRHEAD's "Ace Of Spades". "I might [sing 'Ace'] more 'Alice Cooper style,' but it would still have to have that growl, that guttural voice to make it work," Alice tells Rolling Stone. "I can't picture, like, CREEDENCE CLEARWATER doing that song."

During the 1970s in the upstairs bar of the Rainbow Bar & Grill on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood, the Hollywood Vampires were born. It was a gathering place where celebrated artists such as John Lennon, Keith Moon, Jim Morrison, Alice Cooper, Harry Nilsson and countless others would meet and drink into the early morning hours, and the club became legendary. Four years ago, Hollywood Vampires founding member Alice Cooper and his good friend Johnny Depp decided the time was right to revive the camaraderie and spirit that defined Hollywood Vampires (minus the drinking), creating an environment for great artists to hang, laugh and play together. Cooper and Depp were joined by Perry, along with producer Bob Ezrin, and soon the recording began. The new album, "Hollywood Vampires", was released on September 11, 2015, followed by two live performances at The Roxy in Hollywood and an international appearance at Rock In Rio in Brazil.

Former CORROSION OF CORFORMITY Vocalist KARL AGELL Recounts Meeting LEMMY For The First Time - "I Still Have The Glass From The Whiskey He Bought Me"

Former CORROSION OF CORFORMITY Vocalist KARL AGELL Recounts Meeting LEMMY For The First Time - "I Still Have The Glass From The Whiskey He Bought Me"

Tributes continue to appear online as the world says goodbye to Motörhead legend Lemmy, who passed away on December 28th, 2015 at the age of 70 following a brief battle with cancer. Former Corrosion Of Conformity frontman Karl Agell has posted the following message on Facebook:

"So many of us have Lemmy stories. The man, the legend was accessible and super fucking cool to boot. He never forgot the fans... ever. Here's my personal Lemmy story. It was the very first time I met him.

It was 1990 and C.O.C. was just embarking on our first European tour with D.R.I. We were in London, on the verge of kicking things off. Woodroe, Pepper and I decided to leave the hotel and grab a drink down the street. We walked into a random pub and who should we see playing a video game but Lemmy. The place was basically empty. We worked up the nerve to go talk to him. 'Hey, you're Lemmy, man. It's an honor to meet you. We're in a band called Corrosion Of Conformity.' He said, 'I know who you are. You boys have the second greatest logo in the world.' I still have the glass from the whiskey he bought me."

As recently reported, a Finnish dairy company has released a commercial featuring Lemmy that was filmed just weeks before his death in December. The 40-second spot which can be viewed below is a remake of a 1990s Valio milk ad well known in Finland. The new version shows Kilmister exiting a gas station, turning to the camera and saying, "I don't drink milk, and never will … you asshole.”

It was filmed in Helsinki in early December just hours ahead of a Motörhead concert. Valio changed the spot to make it a tribute to Kilmister after he died of cancer on December 28 in Los Angeles.

“This was a magical encounter with a great man and were honored to share with the world."

Valio said Kilmister's managers approved it.

On January 9th, the world came together to celebrate the life of Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Hollywood, California.

With almost almost 300,000 watching on YouTube and millions more thinking about a man that changed the face of heavy metal. And what a face … an image. An icon. Kinda like James Dean … but for us metalheads, much more of presence in life. Manager Todd Singerman led the ceremony: “Man, I hate using these words in past tense!”

He proceeded to pass the mic to Lemmy’s son Paul: “He had a feeling something was wrong in August. We will know the pain he was in … all of his years he was a stage warrior. Having moved mount everest, the show would go on. He wasn’t just a musician and songwriter … he was a figurehead. He set the bar. It was about keeping it real. Performing was everything to him. He was Lemmy all the time. He wasn’t a poseur. He paid his his dues. Motörhead’s last album was a struggle … it never revealed his frailed health. Born to lose, live to win. He wasn’t religious, but he was profoundly spiritual. He never tolerated anybody talking over music … especially his! Music wasn’t a background to him. Nobody on this earth posed his brand of of humour. He was 100% real. I won the lottery when I got Lemmy. You were perfect. You are on the road to the great great gig in the sky.”

The elite of heavy metal praised the man, the legend, the icon.

Guns N' Roses Slash: “Lemmy was somebody that I feel blessed to be friends with. He was such a a fucking great example of what my peers wanted to be. More integrity than anybody. 100 loyal. All these fine attributes. When I got sober he was so disappointed when I didn’t greet him with a flask of Jack Daniels!”

Judas Priest's Rob Halford: “Over the years we’ve had some amazing times. We always looked forward to seeing the lads! When I was in the the presence of lord Lemmy. I was overwhelmed! As we know, the music lives forever!”

Anthrax' Scott Ian : “Elvis you taught us how to dress, how to look. It was Carl Perkins and Little Richard how to sound. And it was The Beatles who taught us we could to write our own songs. And Lemmy it was you who taught us that we could be fucking real.”

Metallica's Lars Ulrich: “I lived and breathed every note they sang! Lemmy was so hospitable and the ultimate party host. I’ve always cited Motorhead and Lemmy as in the inspiration and the primary reason Metallica exists musically and attitude wise. So thank you Lemmy for shaping who I am today.

Foo Fighter's Dave Grohl: “There is not enough time to tell you what Lemmy meant to me. He’s my person … he’s the one that bridged my love of ACDC and Sabbath and Zeppelin … and my love with GBH, the Ramones and Black Flag.

Lemmy Kilmister died on December 28th at the age of 70 following a brief battle with an aggressive cancer.

PHILIP ANSELMO

PHILIP ANSELMO's DOWN Bandmate PEPPER KEENAN 'Accepts' His Apology

Philip Anselmo's DOWN bandmate Pepper Keenan says that he is "saddened and confused" by the ex-PANTERA singer's behavior at last month's "Dimebash" and hopes that Anselmo "will focus his energy on self-reflection and begin the process of regaining perspective, healing himself and those lives he has touched through music."

Anselmo performed the PANTERA classic "Walk" at the January 22 "Dimebash" event at the Lucky Strike Live in Hollywood, California in honor of his former bandmate, late PANTERA guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott. As he left the stage, he made a Nazi-style salute. He appeared to say "white power" as he made the gesture, but he later claimed he was referring to drinking white wine as part of an "inside joke." Anselmo has since released a video message, saying that he "deserves completely" the "heat" that he has been getting over his actions and claiming to be "a thousand percent apologetic to anyone that took offense to what [he] said."

Now Keenan has taken to his Facebook page to offer his take on what transpired. He said: "Anyone who knows me is aware that I am not one to dabble much in social media. However, due to what transpired last week at Dimebash, I feel the need to respond and reach out to friends, family, music peers and fans worldwide.

"I am saddened and confused by the behavior of Philip Anselmo last week. I do not condone what was gestured and said. This lapse in judgment of 'making a joke' was in terribly poor taste and unacceptable.

"That philosophy is the opposite of what I am about. My heart follows love and soul and my music has been inspired from people of all walks of life and musical styles. I view music as a gift that is universal and intended for all of humanity. As a proud New Orleanian, life is about celebrating diversity through music, it's about bringing people together, not tearing apart.

"I won't speak for Phil but I've known him most of my life and I know there is not hate in his heart. However, I hope at this moment in time Phil will focus his energy on self-reflection and begin the process of regaining perspective, healing himself and those lives he has touched through music.

"Through DOWN, Philip and I have written many beautiful and powerful songs in the past that have touched and inspired people from all walks of life positively and have helped pull many out of their own darkest hours. This is not something I take for granted and should always be at the forefront of one's conscience to keep you grounded, humbled and grateful.

"One of the responsibilities and joys, in my opinion, of being an artist or musician is having the ability to help make the world a better place.

"I accept Phil's apology, and I believe he can.

"I'll be there…if needed.

"Love and Respect."

Several notable musicians have come out and criticized Anselmo for his actions, including MACHINE HEAD frontman Robb Flynn, who uploaded an eleven-minute video response to the incident in which he called Anselmo a "big bully" and described Philip's behavior as "fucking wrong."

Earlier today, Anselmo released another statement in which he said: "My [DOWN] bandmates are now experiencing the consequences of my behavior, and I now publicly apologize to them as well. Never in my entire lifetime would I drag them down with me, and I've privately suggested to them that they move on without me.

"My biggest obstacle(s) are the over-indulging in the booze and blurting out spiteful, ignorant reductions of the human spirit itself. I will address these issues, head-on.

"I'm repulsed by my own actions, and the self-loathing I'm going through right now is justified by the hurt I've caused."

PHILIP ANSELMO:

PHILIP ANSELMO: 'I, Once Again, Am Truly Sorry For The Pain I Have Caused'

Former PANTERA frontman Philip Anselmo has apologized to his current bandmates in DOWN after the latter group was pulled from the lineup of this year's FortaRock festival in the Netherlands. The FortaRock organizers said in a statement that they were canceling DOWN's appearance at the event because of Anselmo's recent outburst at a concert in Los Angeles where the singer ended the show with a Nazi salute and shouted "white power." They explained that they wanted "to make clear that there is no room for racism or fascism on FortaRock."

Anselmo later claimed he was referring to drinking white wine as part of an "inside joke," but has since released a video message, saying that he "deserves completely" the "heat" that he has been getting over his actions and claiming to be "a thousand percent apologetic to anyone that took offense to what [he] said."

Now Anselmo has posted a further apology on his web site, saying he doesn't want to drag his bandmates down with him.

The 47-year-old frontman wrote:

"To all this will concern,

"Every citizen in this entire world has the unalienable right to live with dignity and respect without hate or oppression. And I mean this, with all of my crushed, yet, guilty heart.

"It's common knowledge that we can choose to either learn from our mistakes, or continue on a path of insensitivity and destruction.

"I am utterly responsible for the mistakes I have made, and can only give you my word to no longer do them in the present, through ACTION, not just mere words.

"My bandmates are now experiencing the consequences of my behavior, and I now publicly apologize to them as well. Never in my entire lifetime would I drag them down with me, and I've privately suggested to them that they move on without me.

"My biggest obstacle(s) are the over-indulging in the booze and blurting out spiteful, ignorant reductions of the human spirit itself. I will address these issues, head-on.

"I'm repulsed by my own actions, and the self-loathing I'm going through right now is justified by the hurt I've caused.

"I realize we live in a society where apologies are NOT accepted easily, yet long for a day when they can be, but I also understand if I'm shunned 'till I hit the dirt.

"From the bottom of my heart, and with all sincerity, I, once again, am truly sorry for the pain I have caused.

"With truth, love, hope & respect — Philip H. Anselmo"

Several notable musicians have come out and criticized Anselmo for his actions, including MACHINE HEAD frontman Robb Flynn, who uploaded an eleven-minute video response to the incident in which he called Anselmo a "big bully" and described Philip's behavior as "fucking wrong."

Omens of Doom by Sulphur

Formed in 2000 with current and former members of bands such as Gorgoroth, Enslaved, Aeternus and Vulture Industries, Sulhpur’s demo A Relic For The Damned demonstrated the direction the band would be taking, which lies between death and black metal with a progressive twist, but the band lay dormant for a few years, until they returned with a second demo and an altered lineup and eventually signed to Osmose Productions for the release of their debut studio album Cursed Madness in 2007.

Sulphur's next live appearance will be on February 19 at Blastfest in Bergen, Norway.

Finland’s CHESTBURSTER Announce Debut Full-Length Slime And Guilt; “Experienced Virgin” Track Streaming

Finland’s CHESTBURSTER Announce Debut Full-Length Slime And Guilt; “Experienced Virgin” Track Streaming

What, you might ask, on earth is Chestburster? In short and on the surface, it's just dirty, sludgy rock 'n' roll played by losers, but there's more in there that meets the ear at first, deeper and weirder levels should you dare crawl your way in through the filth and properly sink in.

Hailing out of Kouvola, Finland, Chestburster have a couple of EP releases under their studded belts already, and the first full-length album drops on March 4th on Svart Records. Titled Slime And Guilt, the record is available digitally and on vinyl, limited to 350 copies.

A press release states: “What is Slime And Guilt made of, then? There are roaring guitars that smell like bad sex and even worse mushroom trips, sunburnt slacker afternoon vibes, vocals sounding like death threats, beautiful passages that are washed away by waves of nasty feedback. It's heavy but not metal, not progressive but too out there to be punk rock. It's like a bad dream you don't want to wake up from, outsider music for the lowlife elite.”

Tracklisting:

“Faces In The Rain”
“Experienced Virgin”
“Slime And Guilt”
“Gas Station Pilgrim”
“The Arm Stretches Out”

GONG Legend Daevid Allen’s Final Album Elevenses Out February 12th

GONG Legend Daevid Allen’s Final Album Elevenses Out February 12th

Purple Pyramid Records will be releasing on February 12th the final album from legendary Daevid Allen, one of the most innovative music artists to emerge from this planet. Daevid Allen Weird Quartet is a recording project bringing together Daevid Allen, founder of The Soft Machine and Gong, with Don Falcone of Spirits Burning, Michael Clare of Daevid Allen's University of Errors, and drummers Trey Sabatelli (The Tubes) and Paul Sears (The Muffins). Elevenses” is the second album by this band, following 2005's Djdday, which was released under the band name Weird Biscuit Teatime. Daevid Allen Weird Quartet Elevenses is the last band album that Daevid worked on before his death, in March 2015.

Christopher David Allen (January 13th, 1938 – March 13th, 2015), better known as Daevid Allen, sometimes credited as Divided Alien, was an Australian and had a brilliant career as a poet, musician, artist, and one-time cab driver that spanned over fifty years. Daevid was constantly pushing boundaries and was always the center of activity. He continually inspired those around him to be creative and to achieve their best.

The Daily Telegraph said, “Allen revelled in being the court jester of hippie rock and never lost his enthusiasm for the transcendent power of the psychedelic experience. He once remarked, 'Psychedelia for me is a code for that profound spiritual experience where there is a direct link to the gods.' That he never attained the riches and fame of many of his contemporaries did not concern him.”

Daevid Allen Weird Quartet Elevenses album is a mixture of styles of music found throughout his career, plus a few surprises: a blues song in 7/4, a catchy Irish-tinged folk song, ambient and explosive instrumentals, a post-punk rave-up with Daevid's final message on a record.

Tracklisting:

“TransloopThisMessage”
“Imagicknation”
“The Latest Curfew Craze”
“Kick That Habit Man”
“Secretary Of Lore”
“Alchemy”
“The Cold Stuffings Of November”
“Grasshopping”
“God’s New Deal”
“Dim Sum In Alphabetical Order”
“Killer Honey”
“Under The YumYum Tree Café”
“Banana Construction”

REV THEORY Signs With ANOTHER CENTURY, Releases 'We Own The Night' Song

New York rock act REV THEORY has inked a worldwide deal with Another Century. In addition, the band has exclusively partnered with WWE and WWE Network to have a brand new track, "We Own The Night", as the official theme song to NXT's hit series "Breaking Ground". REV THEORY is also hard at work on its much-anticipated new full-length album, to be released later this year.

"On behalf of the entire band, it's awesome to know that our careers have come full circle," says REV THEORY vocalist Rich Luzzi. "We actually released our first album with Robert Kampf and the Century Media team. We are excited and we feel at home again with our family at Another Century, a family that truly understands and is passionate about rock music and REV THEORY. Bring on 2016!"

After the release of 2011's "Justice" album, the members of REV THEORY took some much-needed time off from touring, followed their inner compasses to travel and explore the world each fulfilling personal dreams and inner desires. The band is now back, rejuvenated, better than ever, excited to get back at melting people's faces with their no-B.S. brand of hard rock.

THE WINERY DOGS:

THE WINERY DOGS: 'Hot Streak' Video Released

"Hot Streak", the new video from THE WINERY DOGS — the power trio featuring drummer Mike Portnoy (DREAM THEATER, AVENGED SEVENFOLD, ADRENALINE MOB), legendary bassist Billy Sheehan (MR. BIG, TALAS, DAVID LEE ROTH) and guitarist/vocalist Richie Kotzen (MR. BIG, POISON) — can be seen below. The clip was directed by Vicente Cordero and features mostly performance footage that was shot last fall during the band's U.S. tour.

"Hot Streak" is the title track of THE WINERY DOGS' sophomore album, which debuted at No. 30 on The Billboard 200 chart, having shifted 13,000 equivalent album units in the week ending October 8, 2015.

"Hot Streak" was released on October 2 in North America on Loud & Proud Records via RED (a division of Sony Music Entertainment) and in the rest of the world via earMUSIC.

"Hot Streak" shows the powerfully pedigreed trio's initial burst of collective chemistry was no accident, from the strum and headbang of "Captain Love" to the propulsive uplifting vibe of "The Bridge" to the introspective acoustic harmonic convergence of "Fire". If these three DOGS thought they captured lightning in a supper dish the first time around, "Hot Streak" barks ups the aural ante into exciting new territory. "I feel we've taken the band to another level," explained Kotzen. "The compositions are stronger on this album. I feel more connected lyrically and musically to what I did on this record than on the last one. We've widened the musical scope of the band on this record and moved it forward." Portnoy added: "Everything on this album was more of a collaboration than on the first album. There's just a natural chemistry. The three of us really mesh very, very well, both musically and personally. The mission of this band is to write catchy songs, and not have the musicianship overpower that." "I'm glad we're not playing it safe and just doing songs that automatically fit in the category of what we did on the first record," Sheehan concluded. "Some of them are a little different, and we definitely took chances. And you have to do that — otherwise, you don't grow."

Update: LED ZEPPELIN Members Deposed In “Stairway To Heaven” Lawsuit

Update: LED ZEPPELIN Members Deposed In “Stairway To Heaven” Lawsuit

The surviving members of Led Zeppelin have all been questioned in a lawsuit that alleges their hit “Stairway To Heaven” was filched from an obscure song by the band Spirit, reports Bloomberg Business. Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, and Robert Plant were each deposed separately over the past month as part of pretrial discovery in the copyright infringement case, new filings in Los Angeles federal court show.

During the depositions in London, they all said that they had no idea what their finances or earnings were with Led Zeppelin, according to a filing by the plaintiff's lawyer asking for more time to investigate. The musicians and their record company, Warner Music, deny the infringement allegations and say Plant and Page alone composed the 1971 song.

To many ears, the opening notes of “Stairway To Heaven” sound a lot like Taurus, an instrumental piece released on Spirit’s debut album in 1968 (decide for yourself here). At the end of that year and throughout 1969, Spirit and Led Zeppelin shared the bill at several concerts.

Led Zeppelin's guitarist, however, testified his memory of the era was vague, according to the filing by plaintiff's lawyer Francis Alexander Malofiy, who conducted the questioning. "Jimmy Page’s discovery answers [the] claim that he remembers virtually nothing about the 1960s or 1970s despite many public interviews concerning Spirit where he stated that he listened to the band’s albums and that they struck him on an emotional level, despite the fact that he played and attended concerts where Spirit performed," Malofiy wrote.

OTEP To Release

OTEP To Release 'Generation Doom' Album In April

OTEP, the band led by singer, poet, illustrator, author and activist Otep Shamaya, will release its seventh studio album, "Generation Doom", on April 15 via Napalm. The CD was produced by Howard Benson, who has previously worked with such acts as MOTÖRHEAD, PAPA ROACH, THREE DAYS GRACE, FLYLEAF, P.O.D. and HALESTORM.

Commented Shamaya: "Revolution is the opiate of the artist. In pain. We remain. But healed in the sweet addiction to art. We are.

"For this album, I unleashed my soul and allowed it to soar freely. I communed with the moon in the chrome of its light. I kissed the sun at its fiery height. I waged war with the Nightmare Kings, I sinned with the opalescent women in the roaring seas of poetry. On a cycloptic mare, hooves made of iron and air, I charged into the inky heart of art and roared at the old gods in the ashes of their ruin, 'You can't look away, WE ARE YOUR MISTAKE. WE... ARE... GENERATION DOOM!" With Shamaya's multifaceted vocal approach, from gut-wrenching roars to soft seductive poetry to singing with a surprisingly magically beautiful voice, to her evolution as a writer and story teller, "Generation Doom" erupts with thunderous, punishing grooves that harmoniously detonate into dark industrial fury with magma flows of hard rock melodies that seamlessly shape shift into a mysterious musical beast we've just discovered. "Generation Doom" track listing:

01. Zero02. Feeding Frenzy03. Lords Of War04. Royals (LORDE cover)05. In Cold Blood06. Down07. God Is A Gun08. Equal Rights, Equal Lefts09. No Color10. Lie11. Generation Doom12. On The Shore Speaking about the current lineup of OTEP, Shamaya said, "These are the most talented group of musicians I've ever worked with. We are a family. These are my brothers in arms. My guitarist Aristotle and I have a spiritual connection on an alchemical level that's preternaturally conducive to creativity. Along with my amazing drummer Justin Kier and bassist Corey Wolford, we are a force of nature and resistance fighters. Music is our weapon. They believe in what we're doing, what we stand for, and have the utmost affection and respect for our fans, the OTEP tribe." OTEP's sixth full-length studio album, "Hydra", sold around 2,900 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 155 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD was issued in January 2013 via Victory Records.

OTEP was formed in Los Angeles in 2000 and immediately signed to Capitol Records, an achievement based solely on the strength of its live performance. They were selected to appear at Ozzfest after Sharon Osbourne witnessed one of these incendiary performances. Their debut at Ozzfest was only their ninth live show, a major achievement for any band. It would be the kick-off for a career spanning 15 years.

HOLY GRAIL: Lyric Video For New Song

HOLY GRAIL: Lyric Video For New Song 'Descent Into The Maelstrom'

The official lyric video for "Descent Into The Maelstrom", a brand new song from the Los Angeles-based shred quintet HOLY GRAIL, can be streamed below. The track is taken from the band's new album, "Times Of Pride And Peril", due on February 12 via Prosthetic.

Recorded with Grammy Award-winning producer John Spiker (TENACIOUS D, FILTER), "Times Of Pride And Peril" encompasses the rise and fall of an empire over ten grueling tracks of classic heavy metal.

Pre-order bundles, including the album on CD or LP bundled with an exclusively designed t-shirt, long-sleeve or hoodie, are now available at this location. Vinyl options include black, limited-edition orange and limited-edition marble variants, all of which include a gatefold jacket and a color poster/lyric insert along with a download card.

Digital pre-orders, which include an instant download of "Crystal King" and the debut single, "No More Heroes", are available via iTunes, Amazon MP3 and Bandcamp.

HOLY GRAIL, who recently were seen alongside the likes of KING DIAMOND, DEATH ANGEL and FLOTSAM AND JETSAM, will continue to pulverize pavement across the U.S, as they join guitar hero Marty Friedman for a short jaunt in February before meeting up with BLACK TUSK for a lengthy North American run throughout early April.

Featuring a blistering dual lead guitar attack and powerful vocals by James Paul Luna (praised by Decibel as "the finest metal singer of his generation"), HOLY GRAIL burst onto the scene in 2009 with its debut EP, "Improper Burial", which led Metal Hammer to call the group "one of the most promising traditionally-inclined metal bands to emerge from the U.S. in the past decade." It was quickly followed by "Crisis In Utopia", which Revolver called "a nearly flawless full-length debut that ecstatically revives undiluted, straight-up metal in all its gauntlet-clad glory" and named one of the 20 best albums of 2010.

DOWN

DOWN's Hometown Concert Canceled After PHILIP ANSELMO's Nazi Salute, 'White Power' Comment

DOWN's February 8 concert at Civic Theatre in New Orleans, Louisiana has been canceled by the organizers following an incident last month where the band's lead singer, Philip Anselmo, said "white power" and made the Nazi salute at a show.

An official statement regarding the cancelation reads as follows: "After recent actions by Phil Anselmo during the Dimebash event this past week, we have cancelled DOWN's performance at the Civic. We do not tolerate intolerant behavior, and there is no room for that in our venue or our city. Refunds are available at point of purchase. In addition to offering full refunds for all ticket purchases, the Civic has made a donation to the Jewish Federation of New Orleans, pledging our support for a united community."

Also included in the statement was the following quote from Bob Marley: "Me only have one ambition, y'know. I only have one thing I really like to see happen. I like to see mankind live together — black, white, Chinese, everyone — that's all."

Listen To New DEFTONES Song

Listen To New DEFTONES Song 'Prayers/Triangles'

"Prayers/Triangles", a brand new song from DEFTONES, can be streamed below. The track is taken from the band's forthcoming eighth studio release, "Gore", which will be out on April 8.

DEFTONES frontman Chino Moreno stated about "Prayers/Triangles": "I feel like it's just one of those songs that's very 'DEFTONES-esque,' where that dynamic is there as far as that ebb and flow and that dynamic of just those parts that go at your throat. But, you know, it also has a soothing quality to it as well, and that dichotomy is what makes us who were are, in a way. It's sort of our DNA. So I feel like it's a good representation of where we're at right now and where we’ve been in the past as well."

"Gore" had been rumored as a title for some time and Chino Moreno recently had some fun with the speculation by posting photos of DEPECHE MODE's Martin L. Gore and "A Nightmare On Elm Street"'s Freddy Krueger character online.

DEFTONES guitarist Stephen Carpenter once admitted if it were up to him, the band wouldn't even bother with album titles. "I'll be the guy that's constantly saying, 'What do we need a fucking title for?'" he told The Pulse Of Radio. "I just don't, I'm over, you know, naming records and all this and that. You know what I've wanted to do with our records? I think it would be cool. I want to put a CD out, it would look and appear to you as a blank CD. Take all the imagery away from the front so you're purely selling the music."

"Gore" will serve as the follow-up to 2012's "Koi No Yokan", which featured the Top 15 rock radio hit "Tempest".

The new disc features a guest appearance from ALICE IN CHAINS guitarist Jerry Cantrell.

Chino Moreno recently told Kerrang! about the new set: "The heavier stuff is a little faster, and the more quaint stuff is a little more lush. It’s extreme in both directions. It’s not happy-sounding. We’ve been enjoying our lives and it’s not coming from a place of anger, or depression, or anything like that. But there’s darker content on it."

DEFTONES will tour Texas in March and has some festival dates on tap for May.

Brazil’s ENDLESS Signs With Power Prog; Detail New Album The Truth, The Chaos, The Insanity, Track Streaming

Brazil’s ENDLESS Signs With Power Prog; Detail New Album The Truth, The Chaos, The Insanity, Track Streaming

Power Prog has announced the signing of one of the best kept South American secrets in terms of metal, the Brazilians of Endless. The first common goal is the release of their third album The Truth, The Chaos, The Insanity on March 25th in Europe as CD, download card, digital download and stream. Preorders are available on Bandcamp.

Established in 1995, Endless has an over two decade’s ongoing history with various ups and downs, marked through some successes, but also setbacks in recent years brought the band repeatedly to a virtual deadlock. During this challenging period, singer Vitor Veiga achieved notable success also outside of his home country with Aquaria and released two stunning albums, LuxAeterna in 2005 and Shambala in 2007. But now, after many lineup changes and 10 years after their last album A Dream At The Sun, the guys have discarded the old clothing and propose a new and certainly more successful chapter in their band history. Time to resurrect their brilliant way of playing melodic and progressive tinged power metal again.

The Truth, The Chaos, The Insanity is a real treat for all friends and fans of genre sizes like Angra, Helloween, Stratovarius, Blind Guardian, Avantasia, Sonata Arctica and the early Hibria. The musical skills of the protagonists, catchy refrains with polyphonic vocals, symphonic majestic arrangements with great-used progressive elements and not to forget the appropriate speed at the right place can be used as keywords to describe one of the classical power metal highlights of the still young 2016. With this masterpiece in their bag, the band's career will be decisively pushed and Endless can finally take the right course.

SEVEN SISTERS OF SLEEP - Ezekiel's Hags Album Streaming In It’s Entirety

SEVEN SISTERS OF SLEEP - Ezekiel's Hags Album Streaming In It’s Entirety

Seven Sisters Of Sleep will release their debut for Relapse Records this week, in the form of Ezekiel's Hags. The album is streaming in it’s entirety below.

Southern California's Seven Sisters Of Sleep is an act not content with fitting into one genre or subgenre. Through titles released by A389, Southern Lord and more since their inception less seven years ago, and several notable stateside tours with the likes of Full Of Hell, Ilsa and others, SSOS has hammered their way into the minds of many extreme music thrill-seekers utilizing tactics traced to doom, death metal, black metal, d-beat hardcore, grind and more.

In September it was announced that Seven Sisters Of Sleep hat signed to renowned independent label Relapse Records for their upcoming third full-length album, Ezekiel's Hags, which is far and away the band's most ambitious and meticulously-crafted material to date. Delivering a venomous mixture of violent, doom-ridden madness with a severe beckoning to the occult, the quintet has forged a monolithic album that transcends solitary genre classification without rewriting the rules. Recorded with engineer Paul Miner (Motörhead, Terror, Phobia), Ezekiel's Hags bears fifty minutes of new material through eleven relentless songs that beat the listener into oblivion. Chock full of tortured vocals, gigantic riffs, and thunderous drums, this is music as vile as it can be.

Ezekiel's Hags will see release through Relapse on February 5th. Pre-orders have gone live, the digital here and the physical with CD and both black and limited yellow wax merch bundles here.

UK One-Man Wrecking Machine FOUL BODY AUTOPSY Streaming “Destabilized Perception” Track

UK One-Man Wrecking Machine FOUL BODY AUTOPSY Streaming “Destabilized Perception” Track

One man UK extreme metal wrecking machine Tom Reynolds has been making quite a name for himself of late with his incessant live appearances up and down the UK and knack for marrying a plethora of extreme metal sounds into one. Now having completed his next Foul Body Autopsy record, an EP entitled Perpetuated By Greed, like all its predecessors Tom has a message to deliver, and again, just like its predecessors, the message is as subtle as a JCB driving up a village main street. In his own words, "The concept behind the new Foul Body Autopsy record is... Everything Is Completely Fucked!" Listen to the track "Destabilized Perception" below.

Tom elaborates, "It's a refection of how messed up the world is at the moment, and thanks to the right wing turn in politics and in the media a mood of fear and paranoia has taken hold. There are families drowning in the sea, running from the crossfire of blood thirsty extremist death cult and a desperate amoral military dictatorship, and instead of trying to help there are governments doing everything in their power to stop refugees getting to safety. As well as that, we have national newspapers here giving people, and someone in particular, space in their rag to call these affected people cockroaches! We have a Prime Minister who says that anyone that opposes war is a "terrorist sympathizer” and if we look across the pond things are not that much better... a man that looks like a biological car crash is running for president and most of the things he says are completely false but because most of his followers don't trust the media he can create his own insane reality and have thousands of people blindly agree with him. The future isn't looking too great."

Last year saw the release of So Close To Dehumanization, an EP which resonated with his vegan beliefs and explored the often ignored process of how modern societies demand for meat is actually fulfilled. Some countries may have certain laws in place to ease animal suffering, which is an inevitable result of our desire for meat produce, but the fact remains, animals are being bred and killed for consumption in industrial scale operations and do not live a natural life. A video was released for 'So Close To Complete Dehumanization', a video which received some backlash due to its disturbing content, albeit very real.

Recorded at The Parlour Recording Studio (Napalm Death, Dimmu Borgir, Evile) with producer Neil Haynes and featuring cover art from Coki Greenway, Perpetuated By Greed delves into environmental issues, and subjects on a broader scale in comparison to So Close To Dehumanization. The record features six tracks of blistering blackened death grind extreme metal, fast drumming, growls and pinpoint guitar work.

Tracklisting:

“Perpetuated By Greed”
“Enslaved The Rest Of Creation”
“Chewed Up By The Machine”
“Destabilized Perception”
“Devoid Of Humanity”
“Complete Environmental Collapse”

Driven by death and shrouded in darkness, Celestial Decadence is shockingly robust for a debut, as the band honours a proud Finnish metal tradition that is marked by passion and power. Not a second is wasted on the debut, as each of these eight tracks hits with immediate force and penetrates the skull with ease, leaving permanent audio scars on the psyche.

The album was recorded in February 2014 in Palokärjentie Treenishelvetti. Recording and editing by Saska Dönges, mixing and mastering by Nikke Kuki. Produced by Illusions Dead. The cover art was created by Moonrot Photography.

Tracklisting:

“Incursion”
“Devoured by Hatred”
“Shadow and Flame”
“Hour of the Raven”
“Revolution (Celestial Spheres)”

Steve Hackett and Agents Of Mercy vocalist Nad Sylvan has released a music video for the track “Where The Martyr Carved His Name”, featured on his new solo album, Courting The Widow, released last year via InsideOut Music. The clip can be seen below.

Courting The Widow tracklisting:

“Carry Me Home”
“Courting The Widow”
“Echoes Of Ekwabet”
“To Turn The Other Side”
“Ship’s Cat”
“The Killing Of The Calm”
“Where The Martyr Carved His Name”
“Long Slow Crash Landing”

“Where The Martyr Carved His Name” video:

Nad had this to say about the album: "During these past years with Steve Hackett, I have developed a character known as the ‘Vampirate’. I have here set him loose, and so he has invited you all on-board his great ship, to take you on a musical journey you have never been on before.
The main character - the widow herself, is a symbol of death - and is to be courted through every song, one way or another. It is indeed a dark album, but full of loving light."
