3 DOORS DOWN To Release

3 DOORS DOWN To Release 'Us And The Night' Album In March

Grammy Award-nominated Mississippi rock band 3 DOORS DOWN will release its sixth full-length album, "Us And The Night", on March 11 via Republic Records. The group recorded the album at Rivergate Studios in Nashville, Tennessee with producer Matt Wallace (MAROON 5, TRAIN, FAITH NO MORE) over the course of 2015. It nods to the spirit of their breakout debut with seasoned songwriting and the biggest and boldest songs of their 16-year career to date.

Fans can pre-order "Us And The Night" starting January 15. All those who pre-order the album will receive an instant download of their first single, "In The Dark".

"In The Dark" shows a different side of 3 DOORS DOWN. You'll recognize the robust riffing, but it flaunts a sexy and striking chant that emphasises a new groove and swagger altogether.

On the new album, 3 DOORS DOWN lead singer Brad Arnold notes: "We're all excited to release our new album, 'Us And The Night'. It's truly been a labor of love and we can't wait to get these songs out to our fans around the world."

"Us And The Night" track listing

01. The Broken02. In The Dark03. Still Alive04. Believe It05. Living In Your Hell06. Inside Of Me07. I Don't Wanna Know08. Pieces of Me09. Love Is A Lie10. Us And The Night11. Fell From The Moon Following 2011's "Time Of My Life", which landed at #3 on The Billboard 200 and "The Greatest Hits" in 2012, the band continued its non-stop touring performing for audiences across the globe.

Get ready for a big year from 3 DOORS DOWN, including upcoming performances at Welcome to Rockville, Fort Rock and Carolina Rebellion as well a soon-to-be-announced headlining tour later this year.

3 DOORS DOWN first found their own voice in 1995. It's only gotten louder over the past two decades. Everything kicked off with their 2000 debut, "The Better Life". The album went six-times platinum and introduced the world to their now-classic "Kryptonite". Their fan base continued to grow with 2002's triple-platinum "Away From The Sun" — which yielded the smashes "When I'm Gone" and "Here Without You". Both 2005's platinum-certified "Seventeen Days" and "3 Doors Down" (2008) bowed at No. 1 on The Billboard 200, followed by "Time Of My Life"'s No. 3 debut in 2011.

In between countless sold-out shows, the guys notched three Grammy Award nods, scored two American Music Awards, and received a total of five BMI Pop Awards, including an award for Brad for BMI "Songwriter Of The Year." 2003 saw the group begin a tradition of giving back in a big way with the launch of their The Better Life Foundation (TBLF). The organization has lived up to its name by giving as many children as possible a better life and supporting Center Of The Prevention Of Child Abuse, Habitat For Humanity, and various other charities. Its annual concert has hosted everyone from LYNYRD SKYNYRD and Sara Evans to STAIND, SHINEDOWN and ALTER BRIDGE.

KING PARROT Pays Tribute To LEMMY With

KING PARROT Pays Tribute To LEMMY With 'Ace Of Spades' Performance (Video)

Australian thrash grind unit KING PARROT paid tribute to iconic MOTÖRHEAD frontman Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister on December 31 by performing the MOTÖRHEAD classic "Ace Of Spades" during their concert at the Crowbar in Brisbane, Australia. Fan-filmed video footage of the performance can be seen below.

KING PARROT's latest album came out in May 2015 in North America via Housecore Records. Titled "Dead Set", the record was produced by former PANTERA and current DOWN singer Philip H. Anselmo and his recording crew of Michael Thompson and Steve Berrigan at the infamous Nodferatu's Lair (DOWN, EYEHATEGOD, SUPERJOINT RITUAL) in Louisiana and spews forth ten ravaging psalms that showcase KING PARROT's signature punk rock spirit and pummeling sonic debauchery. A true leap forward from KING PARROT's debut, "Dead Set" exhibits a distinct maturity from a band who've committed to the rigors of international touring, slaying audiences through Asia, North America, Europe and Australia on a regular basis.

Lemmy, who just celebrated his 70th birthday on Christmas Eve (December 24), learned two days later that he was afflicted with an aggressive form of cancer. He died on December 28 in Los Angeles.

MOTÖRHEAD was revered by both metal and punk fans, and Lemmy was considered an icon for his musical talent and his embodiment of the rock n’ roll lifestyle.

Lemmy had been dealing with serious health issues for the past two years, including getting a pacemaker in 2013 and suffering from a hematoma in 2014. But despite 40 years of hard living and drinking, he continued to tour and record at a feverish pace.

The band was forced to cancel or postpone a number of shows last year due to Lemmy's poor health, which also forced him to cut back on his drinking and give up smoking.

KATAKLYSM Frontman

KATAKLYSM Frontman's EX DEO Project To Release 'The Immortal Wars' Album In February 2017

EX DEO, the reactivated Ancient Roman-themed arsenal fronted by KATAKLYSM singer Maurizio Iacono, will release its new studio album, "The Immortal Wars", in February 2017 via Napalm Records. The CD's main concept will deal with Punic Wars, a series of three wars fought between Rome and Carthage from 264 B.C. to 146 B.C. The epic legendary wars will come to life and bring the showdown between two of the greatest generals that ever walked the earth, Hannibal and Scipio Africanus, both of whom rewrote the rules of war and strategies. The album will also feature other unexplored subjects on Ancient Rome surely to raise the epic level to the maximum.

Regarding the direction of the new album, EX DEO has a "take-no-prisoner aggressive nature in its attitude with a dramatic and glorious score behind it. [The band] will dig deep into the historic roots of Rome on the new album while honoring its heroes."

Iacono announced in February 2014 that he was taking a break from EX DEO due to scheduling conflicts with his management company and his main band. He explained at the time: "EX DEO started to grow and at some point it will collide with everything, and I need time to breathe. Maybe some years from now, when I'm gray, older with more time at hand, we'll dust off those armors and go for one last battle on the field... For now, enjoy what we have done and see you legions in the afterlife!"

EX DEO's "The Tiberius Cliff (Exile To Capri)" video can be seen below. The song is taken from EX DEO's sophomore album, "Caligvla", which was released in August 2012 via Austria's Napalm Records.

"Caligvla" was mixed by KATAKLYSM guitarist Jean-François Dagenais, who has previously worked with MALEVOLENT CREATION, MISERY INDEX and DESPISED ICON, among others.

"Caligvla" featured contributions from ALL SHALL PERISH guitarist Francesco Artusato, TRISTANIA singer Mariangela Demurtas, SEPTICFLESH's Seth Siro Anton and GRAVEWORM's Stefano Fiori. Every invited guest on the album was of Roman or Greek descent.

LACUNA COIL Is Reintroducing

LACUNA COIL Is Reintroducing 'A Lot' Of Growling Vocals On Upcoming Album

Vocalist Cristina Scabbia of Italian heavy rockers LACUNA COIL was interviewed on a recent edition of the Revolver magazine podcast. You can now listen to the chat using the SoundCloud widget below.

Speaking about the progress of the recording sessions for LACUNA COIL's new album, "Delirium", Scabbia said: "I think that everything will be finished by the end of February, and the album should be out end of May. We already have the idea of it all, but, of course, things are gonna change during the process, and even in the studio; we change a lot of things in the studio."

LACUNA COIL's new CD is being recorded at BRX Studio in Milan. The effort is being produced by LACUNA COIL bassist and main songwriter Marco "Maki" Coti-Zelati, with engineering by Marco Barusso and additional assistance from Dario Valentini.

Regarding LACUNA COIL's decision to record the new album in Italy, Scabbia said: "It's not the first time, because we did the same thing on the previous record, [2014's] 'Broken Crown Halo'. And even on [2012's] 'Dark Adrenaline', we recorded part of it in Italy. Because now, with technology, it doesn't really make a big difference to be in a city or another… It was very different years ago where you would have to go to a specific studio to find the quality. Now it's much easier. Plus, it was easier for us to be home, for different reasons — a comfortable choice, 'cause you could be [going home at the end of the day]. Which might be a con sometimes, because you might lose the focus, but it's not our case, 'cause we're really into the new record. It was for the comfortable level. It was also because of costs as well — because of the budget, you can save money, sleeping in your own house. And plus, we know tons of very, very good engineers and people that can help us out, so that helps on that comfort level that I was telling you before."

"Delirium" is LACUNA COIL's first album to featuring American drummer Ryan Blake Folden, who has been touring with the band since 2012. "He's been with us for quite a while, because he used to be our drum tech years ago, so he was already part of the family," Cristina said. "And it was really, really important for us to have someone who could be family to us. Because we've always been like a group of friends before being a band together. For us, it's really important to be friends, to be hanging out together even off stage. It's really important. I mean, we don't care about the band put together just because of the business. It's really important to have fun. So he was the perfect person, because he's not only an amazing drummer, but he's also a super-nice guy, he's good looking, so he has the perfect image. We love him. He's such a funny guy too."

On the topic of how Ryan's addition to LACUNA COIL has affected the band's sound, Cristina said: "Well, the new sound is definitely gonna be heavier, a little bit more technical, 'cause he's really, really good, so we can play with drums. But there are gonna be a lot of differences. I mean, we reintroduced a lot of growls with the singing as well. So, overall, it's gonna be more heavy than it used to be. I mean, it's weird to say, because, on one side, we're going back, because we're going back to the LACUNA COIL roots, with a lot more growling, more aggressive [and] and more metal, but on the other side, there are a lot of new elements. So it's a combination of things that makes everything really new for us. We're always talking about evolution, because it's always been the right way for us — not to get stuck in one place, to try to find different things, to take some risks. I mean, sometimes we've been criticized for our choices, but we see that [as] the only way to go on. You can't do the same thing over and over. You wouldn't do it in life, so we don't want to do it in our music."

"Broken Crown Halo" sold around 13,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 27 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD arrived in stores on April 1, 2014 via Century Media.

"Broken Crown Halo" was recorded Italy by producer Jay Baumgardner (P.O.D., SEVENDUST, EVANESCENCE, PAPA ROACH) and engineer Kyle Hoffmann (P.O.D., BUSH, ZEBRAHEAD).

RISING ANGER Release “Golden Watch” Video

RISING ANGER Release “Golden Watch” Video

Rising Anger will release their new EP Of Fights And Lights on February 12th via Bastardized Recordings. A new video for "Golden Watch" has been released. The "Golden Watch" video has an atmospheric intro with skillfully positioned highlights and unusual sound worlds to Rising Anger, evolves to an independent song with a clear message.

The artwork for the upcoming release apears very oppressive and confining at first. The colours are chosen to be very dull and grey and consequential spreads an autumn like feeling. There is a branch with thorns growing out of a bole to be seen in the artwork. The thorns, which are highlighted through extreme depth of focus in the central point of the image are drawing the viewers attention. However the blurred areas behind are shining bright. It is not to be seen what lies behind this obstacle, solely the bright light is visible. As an observer, you absolutely want to leave the thorns behind and get to know what is waiting behind. The back and forth, the overcoming of obstacles, the contrast among the ups and downs in life is a very big topic on Of Fights And Lights.

As already chosen on the debut album Mindfinder, the cover is mirroring the main message of all lyrics on this record. The picture stems from David Marx and the artwork has been, as already for Mindfinder, created by Nina Gänsler.

Tracklisting:

“Golden Watch”
“The Great White Wall”
“Most Demanded Dream”
“Interlude”
“Washed Out”

New York’s MANIPULATE To Release Becoming Madness EP Next Month; Track Streaming

New York’s MANIPULATE To Release Becoming Madness EP Next Month; Track Streaming

The inevitable sound clash of American hardcore and metal has matured tremendously since outfits such as Corrosion Of Conformity and D.R.I. made speed the ultimate goal during the early to mid-1980s. For New York City's Manipulate, it is not only the stylistic traits of both genres worth blending, but upholding the best aspects of each culture as well.

From the metal side of the equation, the band offers up dark, crunchy, menacing riffs coupled with a complete lack of regard for anyone's hurt feelings. From the hardcore end: no-holds-barred energy and intensity with a critical socio-political point-of-view only the naive would disregard.

Manipulate's aptly-titled Becoming Madness EP, set for release via Flatspot Records on February 12, presents an explicit look at the human condition divided into equal parts anger, cynicism and concern yet labeling Manipulate as "positive hardcore" would be grossly inappropriate. There is very little positivity to be found when those around you are dying as a result of their own actions. Nor is there an ounce of honor amongst those who choose to waste their own time on earth, as well as the time of others. Equally disenchanting are the ones whose disregard for friends and family overpowers that of love and loyalty.

Becoming Madness was tracked during the summer of 2015 by Jeff "Stress" Davis at Chopshop Studios with vocals recorded by John Grant at Madhouse NYC, mixed by Taylor Young at The Pit Studios, and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege. The band’s namesake track is streaming below.

Tracklisting:

“Becoming Madness”
“Beaten Path”
“Sin Upon Sin”
“Slip Away”
“Time Marches On”
“Manipulate”

“Manipulate”:

Becoming Madness will be released in a limited run of 500 7” vinyl in two color variations; 350 black and 150 gold/black. Physical preorders are available at this location. Digital preorders can be found on iTunes.

VALLEYS Introduce Album Concept With Short Film-Style Music Video For “The Death Of Me”

VALLEYS Introduce Album Concept With Short Film-Style Music Video For “The Death Of Me”

Modern progressive metal group, Valleys, are set to release their debut full-length concept album, Experiment One: Asylum, on February 12th. The album illustrates the main character, Asylum, in his tumultuous fight with Multiple-Personality Disorder. Each track depicts Asylum's returning struggle with a different personality.

Last month, Valleys introduced Asylum to the world via their track "Finding Solace" (streaming below), which depicted the character's struggle with overcoming his disorder. But how does the story begin?

Today, Valleys have revealed their brand new short film/music video for the track "The Death Of Me", which details the beginning of Asylum's decent into madness - with the tragic death of his wife and unborn child by the hand of a home intruder. Watch the music video below.

"This track acts like a prequel to the entire story of this record, which is pretty ironic since this is the last song on the album," states guitarist Brandon Scurlark. "The instrumentals follow the rise and fall of Asylum throughout the track. The more melodic parts represent the ups and the good times, where the heavier chaotic parts and as well as the breakdown represent the fall of Asylum and his succumbing to the disease."

Vocalist Jayson Mitchell adds, "We focused the video around the Asylum family and kept the camera away from us in the band. With us staying in the background, it gave the image of us being the different personalities, waiting to take over almost like a foreshadowing or a dream."

The entire video was filmed by Jaiden Frost of Jaiden Frost Presents over the course of just 15 hours.

Experiment One: Asylum was recorded during the summer and fall of 2015 and is produced by Paul Barton of 415 Recording, with mixing and mastering duties handled by Todd Borland of Borland Studios.

"We wrote this album as a concept on Multiple Personality Disorder because we understand how devastating this disease can be on the individual and his/her family. We wrote these lyrics and music as a way of hope for the people diagnosed with this disease. We want them to hear the record and hear the story of Asylum, the main character, and see that if he can fight the disease, anyone can," adds Mitchell.

Valleys are currently planning a tour for spring 2016, set to be announced soon. Stay tuned for more details on Experiment One: Asylum and the upcoming Valleys tour.

“Finding Solace”:

Valleys is:

Jayson Mitchell - Vocals
Mikey Clement - Vocals
R.J. Riggle - Guitar
Brandon Scurlark - Guitar
Brandon Clement - Bass
Robert Meikle - Drums

Frontman/guitarist Chris Robertson comments, "We are beyond excited to bring 'Kentucky' to you! Since the release of our debut, we have wanted to go back to the studio where it all began and it finally happened! The original studio owner/engineer, all of the great equipment and Black Stone Cherry have been reunited for what I feel has been the most unique album we've ever made. We took it back to where it started and something magical happened! These new songs are the heart and soul of who we were in 2006 and who we've become. There is something very special about these songs and I cannot wait for y'all to feel them!"

Guitarist Ben Wells elaborates, "This album is by far the heaviest, most aggressive album we've ever made. We went in focused, but not overly prepared. We wanted to leave room for creativity to grow in the studio and man did it happen! Lyrically we went to places that we think people will relate to, because it's all stuff that we have lived, or are living. This is the first album we've been able to fully self-produce and the result is an album jam-packed with 'in your face' riffs, huge drums, and bass that will shake your teeth."

Some songs we revisited, the first single that’s going to come out next year is a song that we wrote actually in 2010. Basically, the songs are 90% done once we get in the studio. We like to keep that 10% just to be creative and make up stuff as you go along.” To read the interview in its entirety, click here.

RESURRECTION KINGS Feat. VINNY APPICE, CRAIG GOLDY:

RESURRECTION KINGS Feat. VINNY APPICE, CRAIG GOLDY: 'Path Of Love' Song Streaming

"Path Of Love", a song from RESURRECTION KINGS — new so-called "supergroup" featuring singer Chas West (TRIBE OF GYPSIES, LYNCH MOB), guitarist Craig Goldy (DIO, GIUFFRIA, ROUGH CUTT, DIO DISCIPLES), bassist Sean McNabb (DOKKEN, GREAT WHITE) and drummer Vinny Appice (DIO, BLACK SABBATH, HEAVEN & HELL) — can be streamed below. The track is taken from RESURRECTION KINGS' self-titled debut album, which will be released on January 29 via Frontiers Music Srl.

Goldy stated about "Path Of Love": "'Path Of Love' is another song written by our producer Alessandro Del Vecchio. I got another chance to mix dark, sexy, tough and nasty into the same song as I did with some of the other songs on this album. I've always liked that mixture, and I always lean more towards dark and tough automatically, but this album allowed me to utilize this mixture in my own little way. Even though this song I didn't write, [I] wanted to put in the same amount of effort as if I had!!"

Everything began with a set of demos Goldy recorded with singer West, a guy with an unbelievable set of pipes.

West said: "It started about five years ago when Craig Goldy contacted me and said he'd like to do something, do a project. 'Let's get together and write.' Because we had played together, doing some covers in an all-star thing called the HOLLYWOOD ALLSTARZ."

Added Goldy: "I was contacted by Serafino [Perugino], the president of Frontiers. He wanted to do an album with famous guys from the '80s, and I was absolutely flabbergasted that they came to me for it, so I was more than happy to say yes."

Said Appice: "Craig told me he was doing this project and he needed somebody to play drums on it, and he'd love for me to come check it out. He played me a couple of songs, I loved it, so I said, 'Yeah, I'll do it.' So I laid all the drum tracks down, sent them back, and I thought it came out great." Frontiers in-house writer and producer Alessandro Del Vecchio (REVOLUTION SAINTS, HARDLINE, RATED X) offered his services to the band and wrote (or co-wrote with Goldy) a few tracks to round out the material that was available.

Regarding the songwriting process for RESURRECTION KINGS' debut CD, Goldy said: "Originally, I had the music [for the song 'Living Out Loud']… I had learned the hard way that you've gotta start off with a good groove, and then you come up with a cool riff and then you come up with some simple chord progressions and then a melody line. And then, once the melody line is established, and we're starting to work on lyrics, that's when you can go back and kind of mess with the chords and stuff to make them more interesting. But we kind of had the outline of the song already, and then I presented that to Chas and him and I just started doing the process that's supposed to be. The first thing he did is just start improvising, what came naturally. So it came from his heart and it came from his talent."

Goldy also spoke about some of the other tracks on RESURRECTION KINGS' debut album which were written by producer Alessandro Del Vecchio. He said: "[Alessandro] is an amazing songwriting [and] a great producer, a keyboard player. I think he plays guitar and stuff as well. He's a great singer too. I can't wait for people to hear how he sings. So some of the demo versions already had vocals, drums, bass and guitar on them. So we would learn the songs, and then we'd do them our way. It was something Alessandro and I called 'Goldy-izing.' 'Cause we would get these demos, and they'd be kind of in an odd kind of shape, and so I would Goldy-ize it and turn it into something that I thought would be more interesting. Once Vinny and Sean got ahold of these songs, they really came alive. 'Cause a lot of the times, songwriters will write demos to drum machines, which is fine, 'cause it's just basically a sketch, and then you turn that sketch into an oil painting. And so when Vinny and Sean got ahold of these songs, it really came alive. So that gave me automatic inspiration on top of a great song that Alessandro had already written." "Resurrection Kings" track listing

01. Distant Prayer02. Livin' Out Loud03. Wash Away04. Who Did You Run To05. Fallin' For You06. Never Say Goodbye07. Path Of Love08. Had Enough09. Don't Have To Fight No More10. Silent Wonder11. What You Take

Digital pre-orders for the album are available now and include an instant download of "Who Do You Run To", the video for which can be seen below.

The cover artwork for "Resurrection Kings" was designed by Stanis-W Decker and can be seen below.

Appice and Goldy played sporadic shows earlier in the year as part of BLACK KNIGHTS RISING, also featuring bassist Elliott Rubinson (Uli Jon Roth, MICHAEL SCHENKER GROUP, Carmine Appice) and vocalists Tim "Ripper" Owens (JUDAS PRIEST, ICED EARTH, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, DIO DISCIPLES) and John West (BADLANDS, LYNCH MOB, TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA).

After joining DIO in 1987, Goldy became Ronnie James Dio's right-hand man and went on to co-write such DIO classics as "Dream Evil", "One More For The Road" and "As Long As It's Not About Love".

BON JOVI Plan March Release for New Album

BON JOVI Plan March Release for New Album

Bon Jovi have reportedly scheduled a March release for their 14th album, titled This House Is Not for Sale.

Frontman Jon Bon Jovi discussed the new LP during a press conference in Kuala Lumpur, telling reporters that the group’s most recent recordings found them “really going back to the beginning” — right down to where and how the songs were tracked.

“We were recording at different times and different rooms in the studio. That’s not happening anymore,” said Bon Jovi. “We went back to the place where we cut ‘Runaway’ in 1982 – where I used to sweep the floor and fetch coffee.”

That studio, the Power Station in Manhattan, was owned by Jon Bon Jovi’s cousin Tony Bongiovi, and Bon Jovi’s tenure there also included his participation on the Star Wars Christmas album. Although Bon Jovi joked that “old habits” led him back to cleaning up the studio and fetching band members coffee during the This House sessions, it sounds like the record ended up taking a comparatively somber tone.

“When I wrote ‘Runaway’ in 1982, my viewpoint wasn’t that big, but with every record and passing decade of our career, we evolve. We keep our eyes open, let information in and write about the world around us. We really couldn’t write ‘You Give Love a Bad Name’ now. It was great when I was 25 but not at 53,” said Bon Jovi. “This record is about our integrity. Integrity matters and we’re at a stage of our career where we don’t have anything left to prove.”

This House Is Not for Sale marks the first Bon Jovi album completely lacking the creative input of guitarist Richie Sambora, who quit the band in 2013. The band’s most recent effort, Burning Bridges, consisted partly of older songs — including a Sambora co-write — released in order to fulfill their contractual obligations to long-term label Mercury Records.

THE OFFSPRING Sells Entire Catalog For $35 Million

THE OFFSPRING Sells Entire Catalog For $35 Million

According to The Pulse Of Radio, THE OFFSPRING has sold the rights to the band's entire catalog of Columbia Records master recordings and the publishing rights for all its songs to Round Hill Music, with the New York-based company paying $35 million. The band sold the recorded masters for the six albums it made for Columbia Records, along with the publishing rights to the songs on all nine of its studio efforts. The master recordings for the band's first three albums remain with Epitaph, the label that originally released them.

Among the Epitaph albums is 1994's "Smash", the breakout blockbuster that sold more than six million copies in the U.S. and featured the hits "Come Out And Play", "Self-Esteem" and "Gotta Get Away".

Included in the Columbia catalog are 1997's "Ixnay On The Hombre", which sold 1.4 million copies, 1998's "Americana", which moved five million, and 2000's platinum-selling "Conspiracy Of One".

THE OFFSPRING have sold a total of 17 million copies of their nine albums to date.

Frontman Dexter Holland told The Pulse Of Radio that he thinks THE OFFSPRING's albums have all had a consistent style. "I think that there's a thread that runs through all of our albums, for sure," he said. "I mean, people say there's a sound to our band. I don't know exactly what that sound is, but people seem to recognize it when they hear our records, and like any of our other records, there are songs that people might not expect to hear from us, but people seem to know it still sounds like us."

Holland said in a statement about the catalog sale, "We felt that having the right caretaker for our catalog, both the masters and the publishing, is incredibly important to the future of our career."

Round Hill Music chairman/CEO Josh Gruss said about the acquisition: "You won't get a more high-quality catalog than THE OFFSPRING. Also, we didn't have some American punk rock in our publishing portfolio, and this acquisitions helps broaden the genre representation."

THE OFFSPRING have reportedly spent much of the last year working on the follow-up to their last album, 2012's "Days Gone By". A single called "Coming For You" surfaced last February, but no further details on the new album have emerged since then.

OPETH

OPETH's MIKAEL ÅKERFELDT: 'It Doesn't Matter If We're Considered To Be An Inconsistent Band'

Drowned In Sound recently conducted an interview with guitarist/vocalist Mikael Åkerfeldt of Swedish progressive metallers OPETH. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Drowned In Sound: The band's music has changed a lot over the years – particularly on the most recent two albums, of course. Do you feel the band's fanbase has now come to terms with the move away from metal on the last two releases?

Mikael: Perhaps. But the so-called "new" sound is not here to stay, really. I don't know. We might do something completely different. I'm happy if we end up having a diverse discography, and it doesn't matter if we're considered to be an inconsistent band. As long as we're not considered samey, I'm fine… or as long as we don't consider us samey at least. Fans have their favorite records or eras regardless of what I think.

Drowned In Sound: What would you say to continued critics of the band's new style? It always seems churlish to me to criticise bands for choosing to make the music they want to make…

Mikael: It's taste, I guess. Some people don't think "Taxi Driver" is a good film and prefer Adam Sandler. We are more De Niro than Adam Sandler, but public opinion is not how I think. And De Niro did both Travis Bickle and Rupert Pupkin, you know. Adam Sandler has become known for playing a slightly retarded character in virtually all his films. It's what he does. He's happy with it and his fans are happy with it too. So don't fix it. Just that we're not happy with being that, or "Taxi Driver" all the time either for that matter.

Drowned In Sound: Does the change reflect a decline in your own interest in extreme metal music at all? I know you've stopped doing BLOODBATH as well now…

Mikael: I don't consume that music anymore unless I'm in a party vibe. I love some of the older bands like CELTIC FROST, MORBID ANGEL, BATHORY and AUTOPSY, but new metal is too polished for me. It's a paradox since we're so polished in comparison but "my" death metal has to be gritty and dirty. Not polished, quantized and "perfect." And I never considered OPETH to be a pure death metal band anyways. It's in our DNA but there's a lot more to OPETH than death metal. It's virtually only been the vocals, the screams, that had us rubbing shoulders with our extreme metal peers. You take the screams out and we're some type of metal, but not very extreme like that.

LEMMY

LEMMY's Memorial Service To Be Webcast

On Saturday, January 9, the world will come together and celebrate the life of iconic MOTÖRHEAD frontman Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister.

Family and close friends will observe a service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hollywood, commencing at 3 p.m. PST and ending at 4:30 p.m. With such limited space available on site, MOTÖRHEAD is respectfully asking that fans don't attend the service at the cemetery, but the band wants everyone to be a part of this, so they are setting up a live feed of the service via the Internet on MOTÖRHEAD's official YouTube channel.

Says MOTÖRHEAD: "Wherever you are, PLEASE get together and watch the service with fellow Motörheadbangers and friends. GO to your favorite bar, or your favorite club, make sure they have access to an Internet connection and toast along with us. Or simply invite your pals around and celebrate Lemm's life at home. Whatever your venue, and however you can, let's be sure to gather globally on Saturday, January 9 and celebrate the life of our dear friend and irreplaceable icon."

For anyone wishing to send flowers, please contact Karen Brando at Flowers By Michael: (310) 276-1003.

If you would like to make a charitable donation under Lemmy's name, please go to Ronnie James Dio Stand Up And Shout Cancer Fund.

Lemmy, who just celebrated his 70th birthday on Christmas Eve (December 24), learned two days later, on December 26, that he was afflicted with an aggressive form of cancer. He died two days later, on December 28 at his home in Los Angeles.

While MOTÖRHEAD itself was revered by metal and punk fans, Lemmy himself became a rock and roll icon and elder statesman, the embodiment of a musician who lived the rock lifestyle to the fullest and never stopped.

To the surprise of no one, MOTÖRHEAD will not continue without Lemmy. Drummer Mikkey Dee confirmed the decision in an interview with the Swedish paper Expressen, saying, "MOTÖRHEAD is over, of course. Lemmy was MOTÖRHEAD. But the band will live on in the memories of many."

Dee, who'd been in the band since 1992, said that the band's last tour was very difficult for Lemmy. Dee said, "He was terribly gaunt. He spent all his energy on stage and afterwards he was very, very tired. It's incredible that he could even play, that he could finish the Europe tour. It was only 20 days ago. Unbelievable."

With their raw, uncompromising sound, MOTÖRHEAD never became a major commercial success, but Lemmy and his cohorts remained a popular live attraction for the next several decades while winning a Grammy in 2005 and recording a total of 22 studio albums. The most edition of the band, featuring guitarist Phil Campbell and Dee, spent 22 years together, releasing its now-final album, "Bad Magic", this year.

AXL ROSE, SLASH And DUFF MCKAGAN Officially Confirmed For GUNS N

AXL ROSE, SLASH And DUFF MCKAGAN Officially Confirmed For GUNS N' ROSES Reunion

GUNS N' ROSES has issued a press release confirming that guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan will rejoin singer Axl Rose for the band's upcoming performances at this year's Coachella Music And Arts Festival. GUNS N' ROSES will play on April 16 and April 23 at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. There is no word on whether original guitarist Izzy Stradlin or drummer Steven Adler will appear. Consequence Of Sound says that Adler's original replacement, Matt Sorum, is also on board, while other reports have suggested that current drummer Frank Ferrer and guitarist Richard Fortus will round out the lineup.

Tickets for Coachella Music And Arts Festival go on sale Wednesday, January 6 at 11:00 a.m. via Coachella.com.

Speculation about a reunion tour has been steady ever since Slash revealed last summer that he and Axl had repaired their friendship after being estranged for nearly 20 years.

The last show Axl and Slash played together was on July 17, 1993 at River Plate Stadium in Buenos Aires. The latest incarnation of GUNS N' ROSES, which only included Axl from the original lineup, played a residency in Las Vegas in 2014 but has remained silent since.

According to Billboard, the GUNS reunion — which sources say has been in the works for two years — is also seeking to mount a 25-city stadium tour, with the band reportedly asking for anywhere from $3 million to $5 million a show.

Official press release announcing GUNS N' ROSES reunion:

Upholding a three-decade tradition of breaking ground, creating trends, and forever changing the face of rock 'n' roll, GUNS N' ROSES announce the most significant and anxiously awaited musical event of this century. Founder Axl Rose and former members Slash and Duff McKagan will regroup to headline the Coachella Music And Arts Festival (April 15-17 & April 22-24) — as announced last night!

For months, critics and audiences alike have generated immense excitement and speculation over the possible regrouping of the iconic lineup. The April performances will mark the first time since 1993 the Gunners will share the stage for what is certain to be an explosive event.

Following the group’s 1985 formation, GUNS N' ROSES injected unbridled, unrivaled, and unstoppable attitude into the burgeoning Los Angeles rock scene. The spirit went on to captivate the entire world with the release of their 1987 debut "Appetite For Destruction" — the best-selling U.S. debut ever, moving 30 million copies globally. In 1991, the seven-time platinum "Use Your Illusion I" and "Use Your Illusion II" occupied the top two spots of The Billboard 200 upon release.

Over the course of the past decade, GUNS N' ROSES have performed sold out shows and headlined festivals worldwide following the critically acclaimed release of 2008's RIAA platinum-certified "Chinese Democracy".

Six studio albums later, GUNS N' ROSES are one of the most important and influential acts in music history and continue to set the benchmark for live performances, connecting with millions of fans across the globe.

AMARANTHE Has

AMARANTHE Has 'Amazing' Ideas For Next Studio Album

Singer Elize Ryd and guitarist Olof Mörck of Swedish metallers AMARANTHE recently spoke to We Love Metal about the band's plans to record the follow-up to 2014's "Massive Addictive" album. Elize said: "We haven't started [the actual songwriting process] yet. We are just recording on our iPhones, the ideas that we get. And, of course, we're thinking about the theme — like, how do we wanna develop from the last album? And I think that we kind of already know how we want it to sound. So the goal is to, after this tour, go straight back home and do the actual songwriting, like start to make it for real. And [in 2016], we're gonna record the album. So we're in the process [of thinking about it], all the time — day and night, unconscious and conscious. [Laughs]"

Added Olof: "I can also say that the sketches that we have — I haven't really checked out Elize's stuff so far, but I know that it will be amazing — but I can also just say that the sketches that we have been working on is gonna be our by far best material. We already know that. It's something to look forward to."

Ryd also confirmed AMARANTHE's plans to make a concert DVD but cautioned that it may take some time for the set to arrive. She said: "Our goal is to definitely record a live DVD, but we have so huge ideas, so we are not able to make it a reality yet. I don't know if it's gonna take another one or two or three or four years, but that's one of the things I'm personally looking most forward to."

AMARANTHE released a digital-only compilation of B-sides on October 30, 2015. "Breaking Point - B-Sides 2011-2015" features eight tracks. AMARANTHE recently returned to the U.S. on a headline tour with BUTCHER BABIES in tow.

MOTÖRHEAD – Fans Petitioning Naming Of New Metal Element After LEMMY

MOTÖRHEAD – Fans Petitioning Naming Of New Metal Element After LEMMY

Time is reporting that scientists recently discovered four new elements, and all will be added to the periodic table. The official names of each element have yet to be decided, but one man has opted for a new heavy metal to be named “Lemmium.”

Change.org is the home of a petition started by Jon Wright from York, UK hoping the International Union Of Pure And Applied Chemistry will name the new element after Lemmy Kilmister.

The organization has rules about naming elements, saying that it must be named after “a mythological concept, a mineral, a place or country, a property or a scientist", but Wright contends Kilmister meets the criteria since a star was named after him.

Lemmy Kilmister vowed to come back as a ghost in his last ever interview, reports Mirror.co.uk. The Motörhead frontman, who was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer just two days before his death on December 28th, spoke about how he felt lucky to have lived as long as he had.

Asked if he was going to continue performing, he told German TV: "What, after death? No! I'll have to stop then - I think. But you never know, I could haunt somewhere."

Check out the BraveWords scribes tributes to Lemmy at this location.

Lemmy’s Motörhead bandmates, drummer Mikkey Dee and guitarist Phil Campbell have posted messages about their fallen comrade.

From Dee:  “Lemmy! My bandmate. My friend. My brother. There are no words to describe the emotions running through my mind at this point but I could write thousands and thousands of words of all we created and experienced together.

“It has been a true honor and a privilege to play with you and share all this time brother. I celebrate every moment we shared…you bastard. I know I’ll see you sometime in the future and maybe I’ll join your band again…but this time, let’s go a bit slower buddy.

“There is a big black hole here now that no one can ever fill. No one... Later Lem, Mikkey

“P.S I am deeply moved by all the care and love that has come in from fans, friends and fellow band mates from all over the world. I appreciate each and every one of you. Now, let’s make Lemmy proud and carry on his legacy.”

From Campbell: “Unfortunately by now everyone reading this post will have found out that Motörhead is no longer. I'm still trying to come to terms with everything but I've been totally overwhelmed with the well wishes and stories about how Lemmy & Motörhead affected people's lives.

“I genuinely would like to thank everyone who's supported Motörhead over the last 40 years. Please turn it up to 11 and celebrate Lemmy's life to the full."

Motörhead manager Todd Singerman revealed to Sky News that Lemmy went to the hospital two days after his birthday bash at LA’s Whisky A Go Go on December 13th because he wasn’t feeling well. Tests were done, and doctors discovered he had terminal cancer which had spread to his brain.

Singerman told Sky News, "Nobody had any idea, we just learned Saturday, two days ago, that he even had cancer and the doctor told him he had between two to six months to live. He goes today as I was making calls to Phil and Mikkey telling them to come on out so they could have a last goodbye while he was still upbeat and everything. He was feeling mighty low... He wasn't expected to die like that.

"He gets home (from tour), we have a big birthday party for him at the Whisky A Go Go. His friends came down and played. Two days later I could tell he wasn't feeling good so we took him to the hospital, they release him, then after the brain scan they found the cancer in his brain and his neck... The doctor comes with the result a couple of days later and says... it's terminal."

Motörhead drummer Mikkey Dee told Sweden’s Expressen: ”Motörhead is over, of course. Lemmy was Motörhead. But the band will live on in the memories of many. We won’t be doing any more tours or anything. And there won’t be any more records. But the brand survives, and Lemmy lives on in the hearts of everyone.”

Melbourne’s REBEL WIZARD Release EP Invocation Of The Miserable Ones

Melbourne based blackened heavy metal band Rebel Wizard has announced the release of their latest EP Invocation Of The Miserable Ones. The EP is four tracks combining the sound of traditional heavy metal with atmospheric black metal, and is best described as a mix of Usurper, Aura Noir, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest.

This solo project of Australian musician Nekrasov originally started in 2013 with a self-titled demo but in 2015 saw a rush of activity with a total of five EPs being released on either cassette or digital format.

The EP can be downloaded and streamed on Bandcamp.

Tracklisting:

“Too Late”
“A Place To Rest The Dead Inside Is Never To Be Found”
“On The Unknown Self They Ride”
“Invocation Of The Miserable Ones”

Rebel Wizard is a project of Australian musician Nekrasov (Who also releases black metal music under his own name). The music which he describes as "New wave of Negative Metal" or "Negative Wizard Metal" is fairly unique in an era where metal in the underground tends to be more conservative. The music combines a range of styles but is best described as "blackened traditional heavy metal". The project takes the old-school, hooky sounds of bands like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden and combines it with the blistering speed and darkness of Aura Noir and Usurper.
