On the full moon, Thursday, August 31, the second full moon of August, Peter Gabriel releases the ninth track from the album i/o. This month the song is "Love Can Heal" and the first version to be heard is the Bright-Side Mix, by Mark ‘Spike’ Stent.
Written and produced by Peter Gabriel, "Love Can Heal" is ‘a dreamy, experiential piece with some abstract imagery, says Gabriel, "a carpet of sound, a tapestry where things are woven together, but not necessarily supposed to stick out, but just form part of a whole."
"Love Can Heal" is a song that has been performed during the recent i/o tour, but actually had its live premiere during Peter Gabriel and Sting’s Rock, Paper, Scissors tour of the North America of 2016.
"‘Love Can Heal' was written around 2016 and I did start playing it midway through the tour and dedicated it to Jo Cox, who was the British MP brutally murdered by an extremist and someone that I had met at a leadership conference. I think the song fits right in to the themes of the album in the sense that i/o is about feeling and being connected to everything and in a way, the next evolution of being connected to things is a feeling of love for everything."
Though not directly related to the song, there is this peripheral connection and inspiration that comes from Gabriel’s interest in the parallels between how people, over many centuries, have used psychedelic drugs for mystical experiences and the current clinical research of many Universities into their healing powers – "it sounds trite just to say ‘love can heal’, but I really believe that it is a key element and that when people feel interaction, warmth, giving, part of something alive and not isolated, that they're much more likely to do well and be able to offer more themselves. The music began with this meditative, repeated sequence and the essence of all these sounds was trying to create a sensual palette. With the work that Hans-Martin Buff's been doing on the immersive mix too, you're getting this sense of being touched in many places and it should be a place just to drift off into. That was my aim."
"Love Can Heal" was primarily recorded at Real World Studios, Bath and The Beehive, London but it also features live elements from Linnea Olsson (cello and vocal) and Jennie Abrahamson (vocal), ‘wonderful musicians’, recorded in Toronto during the Rock, Paper, Scissors tour. Their two voices are joined by those of Melanie Gabriel and also Ríoghnach Connolly on lead vocals creating ‘a warm, soft vocal blanket that surrounds you.’
This second August full moon release comes with artwork from the artist Antony Micallef and his work, ‘a small painting of what I think love looks like’.
"Antony Micallef is a stunning painter. I'd seen some of his portraits and they are with thick layers of paint, so there were references to Auerbach and Bacon for me, just very physical, very powerful and I just fell in love. Those paintings, in some ways, are more brutal, but this one is so tender and I think Antony manages to capture a lot of that intimate tenderness around love that is very hard to put into pictures. I was delighted when he was happy to be part of this."
Antony Micallef adds: "I was listening to a few of the songs and it's interesting because it's like putting on clothes and going ‘oh, this suits me’ or ‘that doesn't suit me.’ With Love Can Heal I could see my images coming up when I was hearing it so you begin to home-in and that's how it starts. I love artists who take risks and Peter’s always chopped and changed and I like to do that too with my work and you know it doesn't just rest on this one thing."
Micallef also collaborated with Aardman on the video that accompanies the song, "working with Aardman was amazing," he says. "I love processes, especially in other mediums and so I found the mechanics of how this stuff comes together really interesting."
"Obviously I worked quite a lot with Aardman in the past," says Gabriel, "and Antony loved their work, so we talked to them, not sure if this was something that they might want to do or not, and they did a beautiful job. Very simple, but very strong and I'm very pleased with it."
"Love Can Heal" comes with differing mix approaches from Mark ‘Spike’ Stent (Bright-Side Mix), released on the full moon 31 August, and also from Tchad Blake (Dark-Side Mix) and Hans-Martin Buff’s Atmos mix (In-Side Mix), released in mid-September on the next new moon.

Swedish-American atmospheric melancholic duo, Silent Skies, are releasing their new full-length, Dormant, tomorrow, September 1 via Napalm Records. Today, the international ambient collaboration unveils one more single, “Reset”.
Diving deep into philosophical and existential themes through their poetic, reflective lyrics and tender piano melodies, with “Reset”, Silent Skies presents yet another heart-wrenching and beautiful original composition. The single is accompanied by a music video, directed by the international joint team of Patric Ullaeus and Paul Moore, which offers an evocative visual rendition of the song's central themes.

Hellframes is a neck-breaking album where Game Over keep delivering their rabid, insane brand of thrash metal and pushing the songwriting out of the comfort zone at the same time. A frantic mix of thrashing madness, punk attitude, infecting melodies and some creepy obscure atmospheres.
Lyrically-wise, a couple of tracks are intricately woven together, telling the tale of a 15th century priest who birthed an occult cult, re-discovered in modern times through technology and unleashing unspeakable evil from hell. Other songs delve into the depths of human existence and mind – exploring pain, fear, and the relentless struggles we face every day.

After a successful festival season, Austrian sci-fi death metal machine Mastic Scum has released "Create And Destroy", another video for a song from its current longplayer Icon. The album, full of massively groovy tech/death anthems, was released last fall and is available as CD as well as on red vinyl in stores, from the label or from the band.

Rise Above recording artists, Blood Ceremony, share with us a new single, entitled "Powers Of Darkness", accompanied by a new music video. The track, taken from their fifth studio album, The Old Ways Remain (released in May of this year), "Powers Of Darkness" finds the band tapping in to new areas of mystical melodies, with poptastic allure.
As founding member Sean Kennedy comments: “It’s been a decade since our last music video, and we're thrilled to unveil a new promo for ‘Powers of Darkness.' We drew inspiration from iconic ‘60s music programs such as Beat Club and Ready, Steady, Go!, and director Mark Cira captured a moody, live-off-the-floor atmosphere. The song is about invoking sinister elements, so there’s a heavy dose of pop-occult madness threatening to intrude on the performance.”

Seven years have passed since Blood Ceremony last released a full-length album, but that all changes in 2023. Pieced together during lockdown months, and brought to fruition with a host of esteemed special guests, the Canadians’ fifth album, The Old Ways Remain, is diverse, hypnotic and eminently groovy.
The new songs push Blood Ceremony’s sound into new territory while also honouring the atavistic ethos that has led them to such triumphs in the past. Initial plans to repeat the successful formula that birthed Lord of Misrule and fly to the UK to record again at Toe Rag Studios in London, fell victim to Covid restrictions, and so Sean and his comrades – Alia O’Brien (vocals/flute/organ), Lucas Gadke (bass) and Michael Carillo (drums) – switched to a simpler but equally satisfying Plan B.
“By late 2021, we realized that if we were ever going to finish a new album, we’d just have to record locally and do it ourselves,” says guitarist Sean Kennedy. “And that’s what we did. We started rehearsing the material again and were still really excited by it. Once we revisited everything, we had a new burst of energy. We found a local studio that had what we needed and we were off! Recording nearby allowed us to bring in friends like Laura Bates from (fellow folk-doom crew) Völur to play fiddle, Joseph Shabason added saxophone to 'Eugenie', and Mike Eckert played pedal steel on 'Hecate'. We produced ourselves, along with our friend, Paul Keyahas. We worked with an engineer named Chris Snow who immediately got what we were trying to do. Richard Whittaker mixed the tracks at his London, UK, studio, and we think he did a great job.”

American black metal overlords, Wolves In The Throne Room, have released the official music video for "Twin Mouthed Spring", from their Crypt Of Ancestral Knowledge EP, out September 29.

He comments, “This song travels to a deep wellspring of passion and creativity. Themes from Celtic Mythology are pulled apart and remade.”
The EP features four new tracks spanning the scope of Wolves In The Throne Room's cinematic black metal and dark acoustic folk, as well as two atmospheric industrial tracks that take the band into darker sonic territories.

Frontiers Music Srl announces the upcoming release of the newest studio album from Lynch Mob, Babylon. The band is known for their high energy hard rock and guitar driven vibe, while featuring elements of classic rock, blues, and metal, with a propensity for improvisation.
Joining revered guitarist and band founder George Lynch (The End Machine, The Banishment, ex-Dokken) for this newest Lynch Mob album are vocalist Gabriel Colón, bassist Jaron Gulino (Tantric, Heavens Edge), and drummer Jimmy D’Anda (ex-Bulletboys).

“There’s been so many iterations of Lynch Mob since the first line-up in 1989 of Oni Logan, Mick Brown, Anthony Esposito, and myself. Putting Lynch Mob together was just an extension of what I’d always strived for in a band: the best possible musicians, chemistry, and brotherhood. My bands have not only been my best friends, but also family. When we come up together and work hard and struggle together, we create a bond that lasts a lifetime. I think that’s the thing I love the most about my musical journey...creating music in the studio, stepping on stage, and sharing that bond with my friends through music. New Jersey’s own Jaron Gulino brings the east coast attitude and energy to Lynch Mob. He has prospered in a long career as the bassist in a variety of bands, most notably post-grunge rock band Tantric. Gulino achieved chart topping success with multiple releases from Tantric, as well as performing on many high profile tours and events with numerous other acts. He is also currently the bassist for Philadelphia hard rockers Heavens Edge.
His bandmate and partner in crime in the rhythm section is none other than original Bulletboys drummer Jimmy D’Anda, who is known for his ability to bring a fantastic element of groove while maintaining the powerful hard rock vibe of Lynch Mob.
Gabriel Colón is a Puerto Rican singer who started his career with a band called Fast Taker. Since then, he has showcased his wide range of vocal talent with many rock acts including Gothic Knights, Culprit, White Wizzard, and Rowan Robertson. Gabriel is a true talent and a great fit to fill the shoes of his extremely talented predecessors in Lynch Mob.
Lynch Mob was formed in 1989 after George Lynch parted ways with his former band Dokken. Their debut release 'Wicked Sensation' was met with critical and fan acclaim and went on to be certified gold in sales by the RIAA. The band would continue on through the years with a cast of talented players joining Lynch throughout their musical journey over the course of six more studio albums. 'Babylon' is Lynch Mob’s eighth studio album overall and the first since 2017’s 'The Brotherhood'.

British guitar sensation, Sophie Lloyd, has released another shred video, this time taking on Led Zeppelin's "Stairway To Heaven". Check it out below.
Sophie Lloyd recently dropped her new single and video for "Runaway" (Feat. Michael Starr). Teaming up with the Steel Panther frontman, the collaboration tells the story of a young girl born to rock, and her metalhead parents, who goes on to pursue her destiny as a shred superstar.

“'Runaway' is one of my favourite songs of this album,” declares Sophie. “It’s inspired by all the high energy, super fun '80s rock that I absolutely love. Eddie Van Halen was an especially big influence for the guitar work throughout the song. And to have Michael Starr feature on the song is such a ‘pinch me’ moment. I’ve loved Steel Panther so much growing up and they were such a big influence on my playing style. He really is a rock legend and I’m so honoured he wanted to collaborate in this. I absolutely love the story he tells in this song and I can relate to it a lot myself, and I had so much fun recording guitar lines to go along with the lyrics and help tell the story.”

“The music video was probably one of the craziest days I’ve ever had!,” says Sophie. “We wanted to have that '80s nostalgia in the video, however this time it’s the girls taking the power back and showing that you can be a powerful, sexy boss babe! We invited loads of people down to a local rock bar in London and things got crazy, everyone was so into it and just having so much fun and I think this really translates in the video. It was inspired by one of my favourite movies, Coyote Ugly, and follows the story of a dive bar where the staff are also the in-house band. Michael applies for a job but is pretty useless at the tasks he’s given! However when the staff overhear him singing, this leads to Michael being brought on stage and wowing the audience. Loki films did an incredible job at bringing our ideas to life and capturing the energy of the whole day. We are so grateful to everyone can came down to be in this video, it was amazing to unite a bunch of rockers together from all different walks of life and have an amazing day.”

Six-time Grammy Award-nominated musician/songwriter/producer Steven Wilson has announced today's premiere of his hypnotic new single, "Economies Of Scale", available everywhere now. An official music video, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Charlie Di Placido ("Jungle", "Everything But The Girl"),premieres today on YouTube. "Economies Of Scale" heralds Wilson's groundbreaking seventh solo album, "The Harmony Codex", arriving via Spinefarm Records in a wide range of formats — including CD, 2LP, Blu-ray, digital download, and deluxe 3-disc limited edition — on Friday, September 29. Written, performed, and produced by Wilson, "The Harmony Codex" sees him creating a vivid tapestry of memory and reflection, weaving mesmerizing sonics and expansive songcraft into something entirely unique, a record that exists outside of the notion of genre. Working alone in a studio tucked inside the garage of a North London townhouse, Wilson pieced together the album's 10 tracks with remote assistance from an array of friends and fellow artists, from longtime studio partners Ninet Tayeb, Craig Blundell and Adam Holzman to first-time collaborators including Jack Dangers (MEAT BEAT MANIFESTO) and Sam Fogarino (INTERPOL). Each was invited to add their own individual stamp to the recording, the snares, strings, and sampled sounds sent down the wires giving rhythm and color to Wilson's already elaborate musical vision.
"The Harmony Codex" will also be available as in a deluxe 3-disc limited edition featuring an exclusive hardback book. The expanded release adds "Harmonic Distortion", a 77-minute reimagining of the album featuring alternate versions and remixes by MANIC STREET PREACHERS, Roland Orzabal (TEARS FOR FEARS),Mikael Åkerfeldt (OPETH),INTERPOL, MEAT BEAT MANIFESTO, FAULTLINE and RADIOPHONIC WORKSHOP. For almost three decades, the US/French Canadian-based melodic death metal syndicate Kataklysm has delivered unapologetic waves of powerful sound across the entire globe. The band’s fifteenth full-length studio album, Goliath, is now available for the masses via Nuclear Blast Records.
In celebration of the album release, Kataklysm offers fans the music video for "Dark Wings Of Deception", directed by David Brodsky for My Good Eye: Music Visuals. Watch below:
Goliath was recorded at JFD Studios in Dallas, TX and Studio City, CA as well as The Cabin in Orlando, FL by J-F Dagenais, who also produced and engineered the album. For the mixing and mastering, the band returned to Chris Clancy with assistance from Colin Richardson. The cover artwork required an image that captured the iconic battle of David versus Goliath theme that is echoed throughout the album while matching the power of the music. The band enlised renown Berlin metal illustrator Eliran Kantor (Testament, Fleshgod Apocalypse) to create the artwork which who took the Kataklysm look and gave it a macabre filter that compliments the brooding sense of uneasiness that was felt during the writing and recording of the album.

Rockin’ Engine’s new EP, Altered By Evil, is not only a solid dose of full-throttled rock, but it’s also a homage to some of the best horror characters and events. The third single from the recently released record is “Carnival Of Evil”, presented now in video form. Inspired by the works of Rob Zombie, they went all out in the production of this video with the help of Joe Lyko of Dark Moon Productions and Light is Art Studio. Vocalist and guitarist Steve O Leff enthusiastically shares details about it:
“Having spent almost our entire budget on the production of our EP and music video for 'Monsters Under Your Bed', we only had enough money left to shoot one more music video. So, we had to go out big, and with a bang! When we started brainstorming for the concept of our video, we came up with some absolutely crazy, and even disturbing ideas… so we decided to create them all! From a wheel of torture to a magician box, from fake silicone limbs to a rusty butcher cleaver, we built everything from scratch. Even the fake blood is corn syrup and water-based."
The music for this song was written by lead guitarist Ste Vy Leff. At that time, vocalist Steve O Leff was watching Rob Zombie’s Devil’s Rejects and it occurred to him that Captain Spaulding, the evil clown character in the movie, would be absolutely perfect for the track’s subject matter. He draws a similarity between the traveling circus of the movie and Rockin’ Engine. "They are ruthless yet charismatic, and they will stop at nothing to deliver a performance to die for!"
