Swedish metallers AVATAR have unleashed yet another track from their upcoming ninth album, "Dance Devil Dance", due out February 17 via Black Waltz Records, distributed by Thirty Tigers. Today, the band has shared the new song "Violence No Matter What", a powerhouse duet with the inimitable Lzzy Hale of HALESTORM.
AVATAR frontman vocalist Johannes Eckerström says: "'Violence No Matter What' is about one thing and one thing only. It's okay to debate and fight and to think differently. But there is a limit, and the line must be drawn at authority held with violence, a worldview that cannot survive without enemies, a promised return to a fabricated former glory."
Hale states: "'Violence No Matter What' was such an inspiring piece to be a part of! Thank you so much to the boys for giving me the opportunity to express my angst against the horrors of this world through such a brilliant song!"
As previously reported, AVATAR will embark on a U.S. tour this spring. The trek, which will feature support from VEIL OF MAYA and ORBIT CULTURE, will kick off on April 28 in Omaha, Nebraska and conclude on May 28 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
"Dance Devil Dance" was recorded in the Swedish wilderness, far away from all the perceived glamor of the big city and modern studios. Jay Ruston (ANTHRAX, MR. BUNGLE, CROBOT, STONE SOUR, AMON AMARTH, URIAH HEEP) returned as producer. He first worked with AVATAR when he mixed "Hail The Apocalypse", a role he reprised on "Feathers & Flesh" before taking the wheel as producer on "Avatar Country" and "Hunter Gatherer".
Last August, Eckerström told TotalRock about AVATAR's upcoming LP: "My best thing to liken it to is [JUDAS PRIEST's] 'British Steel' in the sense of that… JUDAS PRIEST were always great, and before 'British Steel' you had 'Killing Machine', you had 'Sad Wings Of Destiny' and all this, but they were a great heavy metal band, a great rock and roll band, a great prog band at times and kind of eclectic. And then with 'British Steel' I find they really got laser focused, cut off the fat. And we're focused on what we feel right now metal needs — this very pompous but yet…
"Honestly, I feel like we have to save heavy metal," he continued. "Because either people are lost in the past… They did it better than we will ever do what they do. Don't do that. What's next? What's next for us? And do that without disappearing up your own asses completely.
"When people end up doing metal that is best enjoyed while sitting down and shutting up, you miss the point," Johannes added. "Metal is the music that you move to — in the pit, banging your head, dancing around, whatever, lifting weights, drinking too much, getting pregnant, impregnating someone, doing things. It's music to move with. You have drums in the band; why would you have drums if you don't move?
"We look a lot to the masters — that is wisdom from MOTÖRHEAD, from JUDAS PRIEST, from a lot of things — but then just… yeah, that, but not that. They did that. We're now and what's next with that. Where can we try to help bring it? And that is this album."
AVATAR enjoyed quite a productive summer last year, traipsing North America on a successful headline tour. They next embarked on some of the biggest shows of the career — a trek with IRON MAIDEN, supporting the band in stadiums in Brazil. AVATAR also played arenas supporting SABATON. They secured slots at major festivals globally — Inkcarceration, Summer Breeze and Bloodstock Open Air, among others.
Oakland, CA blackened progressive metal band Dawn Of Ouroboros will release their second album, Velvet Incandescence, on April 21st via Prosthetic Records. Pre-orders can be placed now at this location.
Alongside the album announcement, Dawn Of Ouroboros has unveiled the lead single and accompanying music video, "Rise From Disillusion".
Speaking on the announcement and premiere, Dawn Of Ouroboros' Tony Thomas (guitar / synths) comments: "We are happy to reveal the first song, 'Rise From Dissolution', from our upcoming album. We hope to have developed on our brand of harsh beauty. Bringing emotionally aggressive genre-bending metal mixed with plenty of dynamics."
Invigorated by the response to their 2020 debut album The Art Of Morphology, Dawn Of Ouroboros came together in November 2021 to commence recording of Velvet Incandescence, once again opting to team up with Nick Loiacono at Fang Studios in San Mateo, CA for recording and mixing, before being mastered by Jack Shirley (Deafheaven, Oathbreaker, Bosse De Nage) at The Atomic Garden Studio. Placing an emphasis on melody and feel above technical virtuosity, Velvet Incandescence’s eight tracks revel in sanguine triumph both musically and lyrically.
Album highlights "Rise From Disillusion" and "Iron Whispers" both rise and fall with a beguilingly ethereal quality, thanks to additional vocals provided in the form of a choir. Elsewhere, precise and calculated bursts of tremolo picking and resplendent lead guitar from both Thomas and Ian Baker (Red Rot) coalesce in dizzying fashion on "Testudines". Rhythmically bolstered by the talents of David Scanlon (Deliria) on bass and Ron Bertrand (Botanist, Red Rot) on drums, album closer "Velvet Moon" musically encompasses Velvet Incandescence’s dual nature of serenity and volatility.
Both lyrically and vocally, Dawn Of Ouroboros’ Chelsea Murphy interfuses a deeply personal approach with the cosmic and universally human need for healing and a feeling of home across the album’s 46 minute runtime, with tactful hope and heart at the forefront of all things over solemnity and resignation. The thematic melding of the universal and personal is conveyed in arresting fashion by album cover artist Jilly Colbert at Manfish Inc.

Nightwish have shared pro-shot live video along with the following message:
"Nightwish's epic performance of 'The Phantom Of The Opera' featuring Henk Poort is finally here! This marks the first time in 17 years that the band has performed the song live, and it's also the premiere performance with both Floor Jansen and Henk Poort on stage. After a viral Beste Zangers performance and a three year wait due to Covid, don't miss out on this historic moment as Henk Poort joins the Nightwish family on stage at the sold out Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam. Welcome to the family, Henk!"
Floor Jansen comments: "It all started when Henk, who performed as the phantom in the Dutch version of the production, and I met on Beste Zangers in 2019. He said he'd only perform the song with me if we could do it with Nightwish, and both Nightwish and me said yes!
It was a dream come true to make it happen and I'm so grateful for the opportunity to perform with Henk at a sold-out Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam. Thank you to everyone who made this possible and to all the fans who have supported us along the way."
The performance is also available via digital platforms found here.
Ripio has released a new 3D video clip of the song –“Agua y aceite”- (Water And oil) from the 2019 album -La Furia Que Hay En Mi - (The Anger That Is In Me).
Meanwhile, the solo artist Eduardo Costanzo (Ripio) from Buenos Aires - Argentina, continues with the production of what will be his seventh album, which will be called Enfrentando A Un Viejo Rival (Facing An Old Rival) and will feature ten new songs, in the vein of hard rock and heavy metal.

Special guests Deafheaven will feature as support across the tour which begins April 28 at The NorVa in Norfolk, VA and continues through late May with a second leg picking up on September 6 at the Fillmore Charlotte in Charlotte, NC and wrapping up at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, CA on October 7.

To celebrate the forthcoming tour, the band has also shared an official music video for their single “Beautiful Losers,” which can be viewed below. Filmed while the band was on tour in Germany, the live performance clip illustrates the bond between the band and their fans around the world. The track itself depicts the plight of Vaxis II’s main characters Nea and Nostrand, two underdogs battling an evil empire and while the song’s title also serves as an allusion to Coheed and Cambria’s beginnings – frontman Claudio Sanchez and guitarist Travis Stever had briefly been in a band called Beautiful Loser, named after a Leonard Cohen novel.
This past summer Coheed And Cambria released their new album and the latest chapter of “The Amory Wars” saga with Vaxis II: A Window of the Waking Mind. The 13-song collection landed at #1 on Billboard’s “Top Hard Rock Albums” chart marking the band’s fourth #1 on the tally. Vaxis II: A Window of the Waking Mind is available on all streaming platforms along with a deeply immersive Deluxe Box Set available in Coheed and Cambria’s official store. MOTÖRHEAD, the iconic Godfathers of heavy metal, have unleashed a brand new video for the previously unreleased track "Greedy Bastards", taken from the upcoming release "Bad Magic: Seriously Bad Magic".
"Greedy Bastards" is the second rare gem found in the recording session vaults for the 23rd (and final) studio album, "Bad Magic", in 2015. Instantly hailed as one of the best albums the beloved trio had recorded in many years, "Bad Magic: Seriously Bad Magic" is the ultimate bumper reissue, including the only recently released stomper "Bullet In Your Brain", as well as a snarling, fangs-out live performance from the "Bad Magic" tour at the giant Mt Fuji Festival in Japan in 2015.
Fans will also get "War, Love, Death And Injustice", an audio interview with Lemmy conducted by MOTÖRHEAD expert Robert Kiewik during the tour, and should the desire to have a chat with Lem or anyone beyond this mortal coil arise, the box-set will exclusively contain a "Murder One" ouija board (complete with the "Ace Of Spades" planchette to spell out the conversation).
Kicking off with a raw spoken-word intro from Lemmy, "Greedy Bastards" profound message is as relevant today as ever, while delivered with the classic MOTÖRHEAD rip-roaring, swagger.
"Another beauty from the 'Bad Magic' sessions," comments guitarist Phil Campbell, "with Lem's lyrics hitting our times bang on the head."
The new animated video for "Greedy Bastards" can be watched below (video by Natalia Jonderko Śmiechowicz).
At the time of its release back in 2015, "Bad Magic" arrived as a massive kick in the teeth for anyone who believed MOTÖRHEAD were going to amble along into a peaceful little pasture containing fluffy little lambs, folk music and perhaps the odd medieval lute here and there. Big-rig head crushers such as "Thunder & Lightning" and "Teach Them How To Bleed" brought such people to their knees begging for forgiveness, as the album unfurled into their toughest, leanest, meanest and most uncompromising album in aeons. Much of this came down to long-time producer Cameron Webb getting the band to record live at NRG North Hollywood, Maple Studios and Grandmaster in California together for the first time in the Kilmister/Campbell/Dee era, and from the crackling punk energy of "Electricity" to Brian May of QUEEN's scintillating guest-appearance on "The Devil", a vast wealth of aggression, attitude, and excellent songwriting was cultivated in that furious working environment. Phil Campbell didn't just record possibly his finest guitars, he threw down most certainly his best solos for decades, while Mikkey Dee's drumming found new tribal resonance with the MOTÖRHEAD sound he had helped nurture. There was also one of Lemmy's rawest lyrical life reflections on "Till The End", and a cover of THE ROLLING STONES' "Sympathy For The Devil" which made the song feel like one of their own. One of the hidden gold-dust additions to "Bad Magic: Seriously Bad Magic" is MOTÖRHEAD's famous, and internationally acclaimed, version of David Bowie's classic "Heroes". Originally slated for inclusion on the last release only to be withdrawn at the last minute, it was a cover version which Lemmy had a great affection for, and as such its inclusion here is both fitting and just.
Due on February 24, 2023, "Bad Magic: Seriously Bad Magic" will be released on double 12-inch vinyl, CD digipak with bonus disc, limited-edition boxset, digital download and streaming.

Former HANOI ROCKS frontman Michael Monroe has released the video for the high-octane title track of his latest solo album, "I Live Too Fast To Die Young", out now via Silver Lining Music.
"I Live Too Fast To Die Young" is quintessential Monroe, playing with words and concepts in a playfully irreverent way and wrapping it all up in some proper kick-in-the-balls rock 'n' roll.
"This one started life as just a song title — a tongue-in-cheek nod to Vivienne Westwood's 'Too Fast To Live, Too Young To Die' t-shirts after I had been gifted one by a fan in Japan," guitarist Rich Jones explains. "It's a reference to Michael's seemingly boundless energy and the fact that he's still kicking ass after all these years."
"I love reinventing old clichés," Monroe laughs. "The whole 'live fast, die young' cliché is so boring, so I live too fast to die young! It takes more to survive and be here today than to self-destruct and die young!"
A close friend of Monroe, Slash from GUNS N' ROSES, throws down some lead guitar on the track.
"Slash is one of the nicest guys that I know and one of rock's greatest guitarists as he's maintained the spontaneity, the human touch and the heartfelt kick-ass attitude in his playing," Monroe enthuses. "I figured this would be a good one for him to play a solo on, he said he loved the song and that it's super catchy."
"Having Slash play an absolutely ripping guitar solo on it was a real honor and it's since become a fan favorite in our live shows," adds Jones.
Recorded at Inkfish Studios in Helsinki, Finland between November and December 2021 and produced by the band with engineer Erno Laitinen, the album features Monroe on lead vocals and harmonica, Steve Conte (guitars and vocals),Rich Jones (guitar, vocals),Karl Rockfist (drums) and Sami Yaffa (bass/vocals/guitar).
Regarding the musical direction of "I Live Too Fast To Die Young", Monroe previously said: "The punk is always gonna be there — it's part of my thing and our sound — and overall I think we've really renewed the band's sound in the best possible way without getting away from who and what we are."
He continued: "I always wanted to maintain the excitement and curiosity of life, to keep that mind of a child and excitement about stuff and not get complacent, not get tired. Of course, I can be cynical and I'm sarcastic, and I haven't had the best of luck, but then again who does? And I still have a lot of things to be happy about. It doesn't take much for me to be happy. To be able to do what I love doing the most, and make a living out of it, that's a gift."
Monroe and his band are getting ready to join BLACK STAR RIDERS on their 2023 UK tour along with MOTÖRHEAD's Phil Campbell and the BASTARD SONS. The tour will kick off on February 13 at Nottingham's Rock City and conclude on February 26 at London's 02 Shepherds Bush Empire.
Frontiers Music Srl announces the upcoming release of Cross Country Driver's The New Truth on March 17.
Written and performed by Rob Lamothe (Riverdogs), James Harper (Fighting Friday), and Zander Lamothe (Logan Staats Band), The New Truth is an old-school-rock rollercoaster of an album. A single and video for the track "A Man With No Direction" featuring dUg Pinnick is out today. Watch the clip below.
This gutsy, continent-and-generation-spanning musical adventure features inspired performances not only from the aforementioned trio at the core of Cross Country Driver, but by friends such as Mike Mangini (Dream Theater), Greg Chaisson (Badlands), dUg Pinnick (King's X), Rhonda Smith (Jeff Beck), Jimmy Wallace (The Wallflowers), KFigg (Extreme) and more.
Two-and-a-half years in the making, The New Truth was mixed by Grammy-award winning musician/mixer/engineer/producer Nick Brophy.
Vivian Campbell (Def Leppard, Last In Line, Riverdogs) joins on guitar and vocals on "Risen" and summed up the album best when he said, “Lush, rich, deep and spirited. No one makes records like this anymore. Bravo!”
Rob Lamothe has shared stages with everyone from Guns N’ Roses to members of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. He has toured throughout Europe close to 30 times now. Riverdogs, Rob’s Los Angeles-based rock band, reached global cult status three decades ago and found a new generation of listeners after signing with Frontiers Music Srl a couple years ago for the release of the album, 'California', which received critical acclaim from media and fans alike.
James Harper has been a mainstay in the New England music scene for over 20 years and is known for his high energy performances and chameleon-like ability to play and write in any style. He has performed thousands of shows with one of Boston’s best bands, Fighting Friday, and has written and released countless songs with them, as well as Funk Piranha, The Funeral Puppets and others.

GUNS N' ROSES frontman Axl Rose was among the artists who paid musical tributes to Lisa Marie Presley at the Graceland public memorial service Sunday (January 22). The only daughter of Elvis Presley died on January 12 at the age of 54.
"With Lisa's passing, I knew if I was invited, I needed to come to these ceremonies," Rose said prior to his performance. "I hadn't planned on speaking, and when I was put on the spot, I really didn't know what to say. And I was tongue-tied and nervous. And I didn't even really know what I said. But I, as I'm sure many of you are still in shock, as I feel I'll continue to be for quite some time. I feel like I'm supposed to be texting her, like right now, saying I'm here, telling her how wonderful everyone is.
"I never in a million years imagined singing here, and especially under these circumstances," he continued. "This is truly devastating and I'm sure excruciating for everyone here and all of those affected by her passing. At the same time, one can see how hard everyone's worked, and is working, to make this as beautiful for Lisa as it can be and is. I'm honored to be here for Lisa and her family.
"I don't know that I deserve to be here, especially speaking amongst those that have known Lisa for longer and were much closer than her and I, especially her family and those that have known her most of their lives or even all of hers. I do know Lisa loved her family very much, and was fiercely protective of her father, his legacy and both her love for him and his love for her.
"She was extremely proud, as proud as anyone could ever be of her father and his many accomplishments, his place in music, America and American and world history. She was also very proud of the 'Elvis' movie, and how she felt it portrayed her father, and the care that was put into the film by those involved — Mr. Luhrmann's vision and direction, and Austin Butler's dedication to the role of her father.
"With Ben's passing, Lisa's life, and the rest of her family, and his loved ones, took a turn down a hard road that she was honoring to the best of her abilities, seeking out help and choosing to help others who experienced or were experiencing such a loss and pain.
"We are gathered here today to pay our respects to Lisa and her family, and to share our memories, console one another to the degree that we're able. And though under such difficult, heartbreaking and somber circumstances, also to celebrate the life of a friend, a loved one, a beautiful and good soul and a cherished and deeply missed family member.
"Lisa's loved and missed by many, and will continue to be loved and missed by all those whose lives she touched.
"Thank you."
Axl performed a solo rendition of GUNS N' ROSES' "November Rain" at Lisa Marie's public memorial service, which included additional tributes by Sarah Ferguson, Alanis Morissette and more.
The Duchess of York gave a "tribute to the children" of Lisa Marie, following opening remarks and a rendition of "Amazing Grace" by Jason Clark and The Tennessee Mass Choir.
Morissette honored Lisa Marie by singing "Rest".
The 60-year-old Rose previously told People in an exclusive statement: "I will miss my friend Lisa. Her passing, just as her son's, or as a kid, her father's, doesn't seem real. Lisa loved her family, all her children. My heart goes out to them."
In 2020, Lisa Marie Presley's son Benjamin Keough died by suicide at the age of 27.
"Her son's passing was shocking, tragic and devastating," Axl said. "It was something that, at a point, you obviously didn't want to bring up but awkwardly would in an effort to let her know you cared and were thinking about her, about them, and to be of any comfort one could, which she appreciated.
"I wanted her to be happy, to feel good about things, at least as much as one could under the circumstances. And really, with the closeness of their relationship, one could hope — but truthfully, it didn't seem, at least without some real time passing, a reasonable reality."
He continued: "What comes after life who knows but I'd like to think they're together, her and Ben with her father and Ben's grandfather in some way, and Lisa, and the most important men in her life are happy together."
Lisa Marie Presley was most recently seen on January 10 at the Golden Globe Awards, which she attended with her mother Priscilla Presley to support the Baz Luhrmann film "Elvis", about her late father.
Lisa Marie Presley was previously married to Michael Lockwood, Nicolas Cage, Michael Jackson and Danny Keough.
Lisa Marie Presley was interred last week at Graceland, next to her late son, a representative of her daughter, actor Riley Keough, told NBC News.
Elvis Presley is also buried at Graceland, the rock icon's famed Memphis mansion and shrine.
"Priscilla Presley and the Presley family are shocked and devastated by the tragic death of their beloved Lisa Marie," according to a statement by Graceland.
"They are profoundly grateful for the support, love and prayers of everyone, and ask for privacy during this very difficult time."

Two years after releasing their doom metal opus, Rome’s Shores Of Null is preparing to wash listeners away with another wave of dreary, melancholic doom metal. The Loss Of Beauty once again ties thunderous music and ethereal vocals together in a sound that is as grief-stricken as it is cathartic. The second single, presented in video form is “The Last Flower”, which vocalist Davide Straccione comments on:
“This song has, in my opinion, one of the best choruses of the album, and I also feel very connected to the lyrics. I pictured a future where everything is dying and there’s but a flower left alive in this world that must be saved at all costs, even with our own life if it means saving our future. It’s a metaphor that encloses the main theme in The Loss Of Beauty, which is preserving beauty no matter what. It is a reminder that everything is ephemeral.”
Straccione goes on to explain that amongst all the doom metal bands around, what sets them apart is the way they approach the melody, especially the vocals. They don’t just growl over the music but try to interact with it, with both clean and harmonized vocals, and harsh ones too. They try to recreate the vocal harmonies live too with the rest of the band pitching in to accentuate the choruses. They put emphasis on visuals as well, something that can be seen in the music videos accompanying and at times influencing the upcoming singles.
Shores Of Null can be overwhelmingly heavy and soothing at the same time, trading off between gothic-doom vibes and blackened aggression. Their music stands out for its melancholic yet majestic vibe, made of choral-like guitar textures exploiting their full range, sustained by a powerful rhythmic section and punctuated by a refined brew of clean and growled vocals, with a large use of vocal harmonies which have become one of the band’s trademarks through the years.
