Next NIGHTWISH Album Is

Next NIGHTWISH Album Is 'Years' Away, Says TUOMAS HOLOPAINEN

On December 8, 2015, GuitarMania.eu conducted an interview with Tuomas Holopainen of Finland-based symphonic metallers NIGHTWISH in Vienna, Austria. You can now watch the chat below. A couple of excerpts follow (transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).

On the songwriting process in NIGHTWISH:

Tuomas: "The way it works in NIGHTWISH is that I am very much a solo worker. So I try to make all the songs — even the arrangements — as ready as possible, as much as I feel that I have to give to the songs. Most of the riffs, even some drum fills and stuff like this. I just try to make it as good as I can do it by myself. And then I introduce the songs and demos that I've done on my own to the other members of the band, and then we start the rearranging process. You know, 'Could you come up with a better riff for this one?' 'Would the bass line be different in that one?' 'What about if the vocal line is like this?' And sometimes the songs change a lot — like song 'Nemo', for example, changed a lot during the arrangement process. And sometimes they are almost to the drum fill as they were on the original demo. So that's the way it goes for us. When it comes to guitars, I try to come up with riffs on my own — like the 'Scaretale' riffs are all mine, for example. But then again, in a song like 'Nemo' again, and 'Alpenglow', on the new album, it's all Emppu [Vuorinen, NIGHTWISH guitarist]. [He would say to me], 'That's okay, but it could be more interesting if I did this.' [And then I say], 'Yeah, that's excellent. Do it like that.'"

"I try to make it as ready as I can; that's the way I like to do it. Because all the songs are very much storyline-orientated; I have a story from beginning to the end. And in order to bring that story to life, to tell that story, you need the full song, with all the little details here and there. And that's why I try to make it as ready as possible."

On much influence the other members of NIGHTWISH have during the songwriting process:

Tuomas: "Whenever they feel like that could be better; it's as simple as that. Same with Floor [Jansen, vocals]. 'I mean, this vocal line is really nice, but how about I do this little thing here, a little note there.' 'Oh, yeah, that's perfect.' Or on the new album [2015's 'Endless Forms Most Beautiful'], the song 'My Walden', the structure of it was pretty different originally, and it was actually Troy [Donockle] who came up with the idea of kind of, like, putting this there and that there and the tempo change there, and it really works. But sometimes everybody seems to be really happy with what I had in mind originally, and then we stick with that."

On NIGHTWISH's plans to celebrate the band's 20th anniversary in 2016:

Tuomas: "Well, not really. I mean, there's not gonna be a special 20th-anniversary show. We're saving that for the 25th or 30th or, hopefully, 50th year. Who knows? But no, there's not gonna be any bigger celebration. By accident, it was actually revealed that we have this show in Finland at Himos [Festival Park in Jämsä] on August the 20th, I think it was. It's one of the two shows that we have in Finland. And that's almost to the week twenty years from the date that NIGHTWISH was born. I remember it was August 1996, but I can't remember the exact date. So, in a way, you can call that show unofficial 20th-anniversary show."

On NIGHTWISH's plans to record and release a new studio album:

Tuomas: "It's gonna take a bit of time. 'Endless Forms Most Beautiful' was quite the effort, and this tour's gonna be quite the effort. And I think we're gonna take a little breather after this tour. And let's see. But, I mean, I haven't really had the spark for even thinking about another album in the past few months; it's been all about touring and other things. So it's gonna happen at some point, but it's gonna take some years, I think."

NIGHTWISH recently released a strictly limited (no reprints!) special tour edition of its current album, "Endless Forms Most Beautiful". The tour edition comes with a bonus DVD of live performances, documentary footage and promo videos as well as a huge photo gallery.

NIGHTWISH has announced a 26-date headlining tour of North America for 2016, launching in Sayreville, New Jersey on February 19, hitting six Canadian cities plus Pittsburgh, Anaheim, and New Orleans, then closing out in Tampa, Florida on March 23. Support on the tour will come from Dutch symphonic metallers DELAIN.

DAVID ELLEFSON On METAL ALLEGIANCE

DAVID ELLEFSON On METAL ALLEGIANCE's LEMMY Tribute: 'It Was Really A Moving Moment'

METAL ALLEGIANCE, the all-star metal band consisting of a rotating cast of musicians, including members of MEGADETH, TESTAMENT, paid tribute to iconic MOTÖRHEAD frontman Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister during METAL ALLEGIANCE's January 9 concert at the Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood, California. They were joined at the show by special guests from SLIPKNOT and SEPULTURA, along with MOTÖRHEAD drummer Mikkey Dee, who asked for a moment of silence in honor of Lemmy.

Speaking to About Heavy Metal about the Lemmy tribute, MEGADETH and METAL ALLEGIANCE bassist David Ellefson said: "As it would turn out, Lemmy passed suddenly and unexpectedly just after Christmas, and we got the call from the venue saying, 'Hey, we would love it if METAL ALLEGIANCE would accommodate a tribute to Lemmy. You're kind of set up for it with the lineup of the band. There's going to be a lot of guests, and other celebrated metal musicians around,' and we said, 'Absolutely we should do it.' It's a no-brainer. It's pretty easy for us. They had the funeral at Forest Lawn. They had the memorial up at the Rainbow, and we held the wake down at the Whisky."

Asked if it was pretty emotional when MOTÖRHEAD drummer Mikkey Dee got up there to play a song with METAL ALLEGIANCE, Ellefson said: "It was. Mikkey's such a terrific guy, and such a great drummer. In fact, I remember just before we were releasing the [MEGADETH] 'Peace Sells' record back in 1986, we did a tour leading up to that with KING DIAMOND in the summer of 1986, and Mikkey Dee was the drummer. That was when we in MEGADETH first got to meet Mikkey, then, of course, watching him move over to be the MOTÖRHEAD drummer."

He continued: "MOTÖRHEAD drumming and the MOTÖRHEAD lifestyle is not for the faint of heart, and he survived both very well. Just such a monster player, and such a cool guy. He held a moment of silence for Lemmy. It was really a moving moment when you get a bunch of loud, raucous, metal heads into a room who are respectfully, honestly giving a moment of silence. It was really a moving moment for sure, and followed by, 'Okay, now let's go make some noise.' Then he hopped behind the kit, and we blazed out a tune.

"We had some of the best guys there, obviously. Mike Portnoy [DREAM THEATER], Mikkey Dee, Dave Lombardo [SLAYER] came down to play drums. Corey Taylor [SLIPKNOT] flew over from Las Vegas just to be a part of that, and jumped up and sang some songs with us. Everybody joined in with the best intentions, and really with a big heart in all the things in honor of Lemmy."

LITA FORD Details Alleged Abusive Relationship With TONY IOMMI In Her Memoir

LITA FORD Details Alleged Abusive Relationship With TONY IOMMI In Her Memoir

In her new memoir, "Lita Ford -Living Like A Runaway: A Memoir", the former lead guitarist of THE RUNAWAYS opens up about her wild life on the '80s music scene — including dalliances with Jon Bon Jovi, Eddie Van Halen and BLACK SABBATH guitar legend Tony Iommi.

According to the New York Post, Ford writes about her lengthy allegedly abusive relationship with Iommi, which started after she got to open for BLACK SABBATH. "He seemed so charming, confident and handsome," she writes. "I would later find out that looks are deceiving."

Ford's relationship with Iommi allegedly began with a failed attempt at sex as he was "too high" on cocaine. "He was impotent from his constant drug use, and he was very embarrassed. I felt bad for him and didn't really know what to do. Eventually, I got him off," she explains in the book.

As the relationship progressed, Iommi invited Ford to England to meet his "mum." On the flight to England, she writes, Iommi "out of nowhere… hauled off and punched me in the eye."

Although she planned to fly right back to Los Angeles when they landed, she decided to stay, she writes, "like a moron," after Iommi acted like nothing had happened.

Ford claims she later learned that domestic violence ran in Iommi's family, alleging that Tony's father also engaged in abusive behavior.

Lita claims that Iommi physically abused her four or five times during their relationship and describes one particularly scary episode that occurred shortly after the couple got engaged.

"After snorting tons of blow, he got angry and choked me unconscious," she writes. "When I woke up, I saw him holding a chair above my head. It was a big, heavy leather chair with studs around the arms, and he was about to smash it over my face. I rolled over, and luckily I moved fast enough that he missed me and the chair smashed into the ground."

Ford eventually broke up with Iommi, who, she claims, went on to hire her band to work with him instead behind her back.

"Lita Ford -Living Like A Runaway: A Memoir" will be released on February 23 via Dey Street Books (formerly It Books), an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers.

WARRANT Has Five Songs Demoed For Next Studio Album, Says Guitarist JOEY ALLEN

WARRANT Has Five Songs Demoed For Next Studio Album, Says Guitarist JOEY ALLEN

WARRANT guitarist Joey Allen was interviewed by Screamer Magazine at this year's NAMM show, which was held at the end of January in Anaheim, California. You can now watch the chat below.

Speaking about the progress of the songwriting sessions for WARRANT's follow-up to 2011's "Rockaholic" album, Joey said: "We're writing. Five songs are demoed.

"It's great. We've got a title for the new disc — a tentative title — which I won't talk about. It's got to do with lips and something you can taste — something like that. It's very tongue-in-cheek WARRANT."

He added: "But, yeah, the music sounds great. [Robert] Mason [vocals] sounds great. So we're just in that mode where we had some downtime in between gigs to where we're doing it. So hopefully [we'll have it out] sometime mid-summer, maybe."

Allen also talked in more detail about the actual music-composition process. He said: "Really, my role is just to write, give ideas to the band. If something I write makes it to the next stage, which is where Robert writes lyrics to it, or Jerry [Dixon, bass] or Erik [Turner, guitar] puts something on to it, then we demo it. That's where that writing process ends. And then, if somebody writes a song and brings it in, I might help with guitar parts, obviously, and that process, and then when we record it, that's when I really do what I need to do."

He added: "We're all getting along great, enjoying it, so the music sounds great."

According to Joey, the next WARRANT will likely be released through Frontiers Music Srl, the Italian label that issued "Rockaholic". He said: "We've got a deal there, so for all intents and purposes, that's what I understand, yeah."

At the helm for "Rockaholic" was mega-producer Keith Olsen (OZZY OSBOURNE, WHITESNAKE, SCORPIONS), while the mixing duties were handled by Pat Regan (KISS, DEEP PURPLE, TED NUGENT).

Former WARRANT singer Jani Lane suffered from "acute ethanol poisoning" when he died in August 2011 at a Comfort Inn motel room in Woodland Hills, California. The singer had battled alcoholism for years and also had a history of alcohol-related arrests.

Lane originally left WARRANT in March 1993 but rejoined the band in September 1994. The group went on to record the "Ultraphobic" (1995), "Belly To Belly" (1996) and "Greatest & Latest" (1999) albums and issued and collection of covers, "Under The Influence", in 2001. Jani quit WARRANT again in 2004 before reuniting with the group four years later.

CROWBAR

CROWBAR's New Album Will Have 'Old-School Feel,' Says KIRK WINDSTEIN

New Orleans sludge metal veterans CROWBAR will enter OCD Recording And Production in Metairie, Louisiana with engineer/producer Duane Simoneaux on February 17 to begin recording the follow-up to 2014's "Symmetry In Black" album. A summer release is expected.

CROWBAR guitarist/vocalist Kirk Windstein told Revolver magazine about the songwriting process for the band's next CD: "I love getting into whole mindset of writing an album. Once I get in that zone, I just become obsessed with it. I mean, I'll be at the grocery store and come up with an idea, and then I'll be in a trance in the checkout line with this thing going on in my head. I'll literally have to hurry up and get home so I can pick up the guitar and work it out!"

Windstein described the new material as having "sort of an old-school feel to it. He said: "On the last few albums, we brought in some new elements to what the original idea of the CROWBAR sound was. It was very refreshing, and I think all in all it worked out great, but I'm trying to bring back some of the original elements that somehow got phased out little by little over the course of the last 26 years. I've also been listening to certain stuff like CARNIVORE, the MELVINS, TROUBLE — bands that were big influences on the original CROWBAR sound. The sound of what's going on right now reminds me of a better, fresher, more mature version of the original CROWBAR stuff.''

"Symmetry In Black" sold around 3,900 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 68 on The Billboard 200 chart.

CROWBAR's previous CD, 2011's "Sever The Wicked Hand", opened with around 3,500 units to land at position No. 4 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

"Symmetry In Black" came out in North America on May 27, 2014 via Entertainment One Music. The CD, which was made available in Europe on May 26, 2014 through Century Media Records, was produced by Windstein and Duane Simoneaux and was mixed by Josh Wilbur (LAMB OF GOD, GOJIRA).

JOE PERRY Disses STEVEN TYLER

JOE PERRY Disses STEVEN TYLER's Move To Country Music

AEROSMITH lead guitarist Joe Perry has dismissed his longtime bandmate Steven Tyler's decision to record a country album.

In May 2015, Tyler released his first country single, "Love Is Your Name", which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Country Streaming Songs chart. He followed it up with "Red White & You", which came out last month. "Hey, if I didn't know him when I heard the song I'd go, 'It's okay, next.'" Perry told USA Today. "I'm not going to say anything else about that."

He added: "Steven is in Nashville doing whatever he's doing. He's got a [bleeping] rhinestone cowboy hat going 'Yippee ki yay.' I don't know what else to say about that."

Tyler's full-length country debut is tentatively due later in the year. The effort will be released via Dot Records, the legendary label that Scott Borchetta and his Big Machine Label Group revived in 2014.

The AEROSMITH singer's country album will feature songs that he has written and recorded in Nashville with writers like Paslay, Hillary Lindsey, Cary Barlowe and THE CADILLAC THREE's Jaren Johnston.

"My earliest influences put me somewhere between THE EVERLY BROTHERS and the CARTER FAMILY, and this project is all about me paying homage to my country roots," Tyler told Rolling Stone. "I've been working with some fucking epic Nashville songwriters, getting my feet wet with the style and groove."

AEROSMITH guitarist Brad Whitford said last year that he was less than thrilled with Tyler's plans to devote most of 2016 to his country-tinged debut solo album. He said: "I guess he seems to think his solo career is going to go great guns and he doesn't seem to realize — in my opinion — that his fans around the globe want to see him in the context of AEROSMITH and don't really care for whatever he thinks he's going to do. I don't know if he gets that, but, hey — that's what he wants to do. I can't put a gun to his head."

EAGLES OF DEATH METAL Frontman JESSE HUGHES Recounts Paris Terrorist Attack - "I'm Not Going To Let The Bad Guys Win, I Promise You"

EAGLES OF DEATH METAL Frontman JESSE HUGHES Recounts Paris Terrorist Attack - "I'm Not Going To Let The Bad Guys Win, I Promise You"

Eagles Of Death Metal frontman Jesse Hughes recounted the horrific massacre in an interview Saturday (February 13th) on Sweden's TV4, saying he realized what was happening the moment that gunshots rang out in the cheering concert hall.

The attack started after "a very last note of the song, like almost a diabolical synchronicity," Hughes said. "I knew exactly what was going on."

A portion of the NBC transcript:

Tears welled up in his eyes as he described watching fans he knew succumbing to the barrage of bullets, and then his own horrifying search for his girlfriend.

"I didn't see my girl, Tuesday. She's, you know, the love of my life and ... I went back up into the backstage area to look for her and she wasn't there, and then I opened up a hallway and when I went inside the hallway there was a dude at the end of it holding a gun," Hughes said.

The musician said the gunman fired: "I thought I was dead, I just waited for the shots to hit me." But Hughes escaped and eventually found Tuesday.

When she called out his name, "there's never been the sweeter-sounding voice that you can imagine," he said.

SCORPIONS: Tour Edition Of

SCORPIONS: Tour Edition Of 'Return To Forever' To Include Two Concert DVDs

German hard rock veterans SCORPIONS will release the "tour edition" of their latest album, "Return To Forever", on April 22 via Century Media. The set comes opulently stacked with two brand-new live DVDs and is bound to make fans' hearts leap for joy. Apart from the standard album's twelve tracks, the CD contains all seven bonus tracks, which to date, have only been released on special editions of the album. The live DVDs are even more expansive, offering generous bonus material.

Included are two complete concerts from last year: The open-air gig at the French Hellfest festival, where they headlined in June, and their show at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York featuring an impressive guest performance on "No One Like You" by twelve-year-old guitarist Brandon Niederauer.

The brand-new fifteen-minute video documentary "On The Road In America" by Dennis Dirksen gets to the heart of the matter that the SCORPIONS are able to consistently attract new generations of fans, who are delighted by their songs, sound and shows. Shot during the current world tour in California and Las Vegas, it gives a voice to fans spanning from teenagers to rock 'n' roll veterans. The film impressively shows how popular the SCORPIONS are in the U.S., and it's touching to see fans burst into tears while taking photos with the musicians. One highlight is the story of the Ukrainian woman who at the time used "Wind Of Change" as an impetus to emigrate to the U.S., and has been a dedicated follower of the band ever since. After all, the SCORPIONS have not only left their mark on history but continue to influence their fans' biographies.

In an extensive track-by-track interview, Klaus Meine, Rudolf Schenker and Matthias Jabs offer a sneak peek into the band's musical universe with anecdotes about the origin and meaning of the songs on "Return To Forever". The SCORPIONS manage to blend new songs like "Going Out With A Bang", "We Built This House" and "Rock 'N' Roll Band" seamlessly with their fulminant repertoire of rock classics from "Big City Nights" and "Blackout" to "Still Loving You" and "Rock You Like A Hurricane". This might also be the open secret allowing the SCORPIONS to continuously approach their live shows with so much freshness, passion and conviction. The SCORPIONS have been going full throttle for more than fifty years now, with their best-selling albums dominating the charts for over 500 weeks in Germany alone, and countless chart successes abroad, as well as thousands of unforgettable concerts in cities like Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo, Moscow, New York, Los Angeles, Paris or Berlin.

The "Return To Forever" tour edition will be available as a CD + 2DVD digipack and as a download.

THE LAST VEGAS:

THE LAST VEGAS: 'Bloodthirsty' Video Released

"Bloodthirsty", the new video from THE LAST VEGAS, can be seen below. THE LAST VEGAS guitarist Adam Arling says about the clip: "'Bloodthirsty' is a paranoid romp through Los Angeles's Valley and back-alleys. Shooting the video, Whitewall Jones (director) and the band sought out the darker side of L.A.; Hollywood Boulevard's side streets; and the flipside of your mind where it seems everyone is out to get you; perhaps your lover or even your own band. It's basically about going crazy."

"Bloodthirsty" is taken from THE LAST VEGAS's new album, "Eat Me", which will be released on March 18 via AFM Records. The CD marks the first time THE LAST VEGAS has collaborated with a European production team. Being longtime fans of Scandinavian rock production and influenced by records from THE HELLACOPTERS, TURBONEGRO, NOMADS and more, THE LAST VEGAS were thrilled with a new approach in making an modern-day album; and the results of the inter-continental experiment. "Eat Me" is a mash-up of full-tilt boogie rock, droney LED ZEPPELIN-esque riffs, and alt-psychedelic acoustic ballads. Equal part American bluesy riffs and Swedish production technique, the album balances grit and polish. "There's a lot of feeling in this record," says guitarist Adam Arling. "It's fascinating what you can express musically when you record songs quickly, never second-guessing your gut instinct. We found the soul in rock 'n' roll; from both Chicago and Stockholm. But let's not get too serious. I mean, the album is called 'Eat Me' after all."

THE LAST VEGAS tracked "Eat Me" at Johnny K's hit-making Groovemaster Studios in Chicago, a spot familiar to the band where they recorded critically acclaimed "Bad Decisions" and 2013's "Sweet Salvation".

The fast pace worked to the band's favor; as they adopted a "first-thought, best-thought, only-thought" approach.

"We gathered some favorite demos lying around, added a few fresh ideas and rehearsed the hell out of the songs for about eight days," says singer Chad Cherry. "We were tracking vocals up through the night I left for L.A. We recorded, like, twelve songs in about eleven hours at Groovemaster, and it felt like we were making our first album again. It was awesome."

THE LAST VEGAS initially decided to self-produce "Eat Me" after working with some industry heavyweights (2010's "Whatever Gets You Off" with Nikki Sixx; 2012's "Bad Decisions" with Johnny K; 2013's "Sweet Salvation" with Roy Z). And, luckily, their vision was perfectly complemented by a musical contact Nathan Arling came across while in Sweden filming the "Allt For Sverige" TV series. Engineer/producer Chris Laney mixed the album in Stockholm, Sweden, song by song, as THE LAST VEGAS fed him sessions built in Chicago at the THE LAST VEGAS studio space.

Video: HALESTORM Performs EAGLES OF DEATH METAL Cover In Paris

Video: HALESTORM Performs EAGLES OF DEATH METAL Cover In Paris

Multi-camera video footage of HALESTORM performing a cover version of EAGLES OF DEATH METAL's "I Love You All The Time" last night (Saturday, February 13) at Le Trianon in Paris, France can be seen below.

HALESTORM is among the many top artists who have recorded renditions of "I Love You All The Time" as part of the Sweet Stuff Foundation's "Play It Forward" campaign to aid victims of last November's terrorist attacks in Paris. The track is available now on the iTunes Store, Amazon, and Spotify, as well as the official "Play It Forward Store."

HALESTORM has announced details of a major North American headline tour. The dates begin April 1 at Reading, Pennsylvania's Reading Eagle Theatre in the Santander Arena and extend through late May. Support throughout the trek comes from special guests DOROTHY and the legendary Lita Ford. In addition, the tour will include stops at a number of festivals and summer radio concerts as well as a pair of much-anticipated dates alongside the one and only ROB ZOMBIE, slated for May 18 at Bloomington, Illinois' Cellular Coliseum and May 19 at Saginaw, Michigan's First Merit Bank Event Park. HALESTORM's third album, "Into The Wild Life", debuted at No. 5 on The Billboard 200 album chart, selling 56,000 copies in its first week of release — more than double the first week haul of the band's previous effort, 2012's Grammy-winning "The Strange Case Of…"

KXM Featuring KORN, KING

KXM Featuring KORN, KING'S X, Ex-DOKKEN Members: Second Album Due This Year

KORN's Ray Luzier has finished laying down the drum tracks for the sophomore album from KXM, his project with bassist/vocalist Doug Pinnick (KING'S X) and guitarist George Lynch (LYNCH MOB, DOKKEN). Due later in the year, the new CD is once again being produced by KXM and Chris Collier, who is known for his work with LYNCH MOB, Lita Ford and Tommy Bolin, to name a few.

KXM's self-titled debut album sold around 9.800 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 31 on The Billboard 200 chart. The effort was made available on March 11, 2014 via Rat Pak Records.

KXM takes its name from the combination of the members' other projects: K from KORN, X from KING'S X and M from LYNCH MOB.

In an interview with Revolver magazine, Luzier, Lynch and Pinnick spoke about how KXM came together.

"I had a birthday party for my son and invited a bunch of friends and musicians," Ray said. "Doug and George ended up in my home studio picking up my guitars and jamming around a bit. George said, 'We should all do a record together sometime,' and I said, 'That would be a dream come true!'"

He continued: "I've been a huge KING'S X fan for decades and have been following George and had respected his playing for decades. We just tried to figure out everyone's schedules to make it happen. I give it up for George for being so persistent in getting this going. KORN tours all year, every year, and with Doug and George's crazy schedules, it's just awesome that we made it happen. I'm very pleased with the result."

Pinnick added: "George was the instigator. Ray and I have known each other for quite a while and always talked about doing something together, but George brought it up at Ray's party and we agreed. George got after it and Ray did the same! Before I knew it, we were in a studio in the mountains, got a record deal, a video and a CD. As they say in Texas, 'You gotta get after it!' George has an incredible amount of energy and humor, and he gets things done. I've learned a lot from him. He's a true genius with the heart of a saint — and he comes up with some crazy guitar parts."

Lynch said: "When you're working as a pro musician in L.A., you're frequently running into other players who you know and respect. A lot of times, the 'dream band' conversation comes up. It's fun to talk about. A lot of times, it's the alcohol talking. But the reality for most of us is that we're locked into other commitments and obligations that in the cold light of day don't really afford us the time or flexibility to pull off these projects that look great on paper."

He continued: "I'm not trying to take credit here, but I gotta honestly say I was determined to follow through and at least push hard enough to see if we could get any momentum going. Ray jumped right in and was obviously really excited about making it happen, despite his insanely busy schedule with KORN. I think for Doug, it was sort of like, 'Well, yeah, sure, I'll invest some time and energy into this,' but I don't think he realized how profound and potentially musically rewarding and even important KXM could become. But as the writing and recording started to happen and evolve, he became like a little kid in a candy store!"

Video: SLIPKNOT

Video: SLIPKNOT's CHRIS FEHN And MOTÖRHEAD's PHIL CAMPBELL Jam In The Studio

Chris Fehn of SLIPKNOT has recorded some drums for MOTÖRHEAD guitarist Phil Campbell's forthcoming solo album. Also scheduled to appear on the CD are JUDAS PRIEST frontman Rob Halford and UGLY KID JOE vocalist Whitfield Crane.

A short video clip of Fehn and Campbell jamming together in the studio can be seen below.

Asked by Headbangers Lifestyle's Lilo at the end of last year if there are any plans for him to write and an autobiography or have a film made about his life, Campbell responded: "I don't want a film about my life; no way. I'm working on a book of the funny stuff. I don't want a life story; I just want the funny stuff. [It's] gotta be documented, 'cause some of it's pretty bizarre and unbelievable. It's totally funny, though. [It's a book about] my experiences. It's what would normally not happen if you weren't in this band."

Regarding when fans can expect to see his book released, Campbell said: "I'm seriously working on it now in January. It'll be a year or two [before it comes out], but it'll be worth it."

Asked in a 2012 interview if he has ever considered making a solo album, Phil responded: "Yes, I have thought about it a lot. But I shelved it a couple years ago, because I've decided that I want to write a book about all the insane things that happen on tour. So, I'm trying to compile all of those stories and funny situations. So, at this point, I'm working on that. But, I'm a bit lazy, so it's taken a while. But as far as a solo record, I do have a studio at home, it's just hard finding the time. With MOTÖRHEAD, we've been working so hard, for so long."

MOTÖRHEAD was forced to cancel three shows last November after Campbell became ill and required hospitalization.

MOTÖRHEAD frontman Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister, who celebrated his 70th birthday on Christmas Eve (December 24), learned two days later that he was afflicted with an aggressive form of cancer. He died two days later, on December 28, at his home in Los Angeles.

Video: DAVE LOMBARDO, RUDY SARZO, DAVE KUSHNER Pay Tribute To BON SCOTT At DEAN DELRAY's Birthday Bash

Dave Lombardo (SLAYER), Rudy Sarzo (OZZY OSBOURNE, QUIET RIOT), Michael Devin (WHITESNAKE) and Dave Kushner (VELVET REVOLVER) are among the musicians who took part in a Bon Scott (AC/DC) tribute at rock and roll comedian Dean Delray's 50th-birthday bash on February 2 at El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles, California. Fan-filmed video footage can be seen below.

Bon Scott died on February 19, 1980 in London, England. He choked to death on his own vomit while sleeping in a friend's car. According to the AC/DC FAQ web site, he and the friend, a musician named Alisdair Kinnear, had been drinking the evening of February 19 and Bon apparently fell asleep during the ride home. Kinnear could not wake Bon, so he left him in the car to sleep. Kinnear awoke early in the evening on February 20, checked on Bon, and found him unconscious in the car. Bon could not be revived, and was pronounced dead.

In a 2010 interview, AC/DC guitarist Angus Young stated about Bon's influence on the band 30 years after the singer's death: "I think it's just something that is part of you. It's like you lost someone close to you, in your family or a very close friend. You've always got that feeling they're there but you just, I suppose, miss them in the physical sense. There's always memories that keep coming back to you, and it doesn't matter what the situation is. You could be traveling, you could be relaxing somewhere, or going to play or being in the studio, there's always something that reminds you."

Bon Scott sang on AC/DC's first six studio albums, including "High Voltage", "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap", "Let There Be Rock" and "Highway To Hell".

PHILIP ANSELMO Recalls Seeing

PHILIP ANSELMO Recalls Seeing 'Sadness' In LEMMY's Eyes Last Time They Spoke

Former PANTERA and current DOWN/SUPERJOINT singer Philip Anselmo took part in a question-and-answer session during his appearance on February 5 at the Days Of The Dead horror convention in Atlanta, Georgia. You can now watch the discussion below.

Speaking about iconic MOTÖRHEAD frontman Lemmy Kilmister, Anselmo said: "Rest in peace, but one of the most golden gems out there was one Lemmy Kilmister. What an awesome guy, man. I can't say how much he took me under his wing and really told me, 'Things are fleeting. Popularity is fleeting. And just do it when you can, man. And just keep doing it, and believe in it, and that's about the best you can do, really, truthfully. ' So much love to him."

Asked to recount a particularly memorable story involving him and Lemmy, Anselmo said: "I don't know if it's a great story, but about four months before he passed, we played a festival, and I was with DOWN at the time, and we were in Europe, I do believe. And one of his assistants came up to me and said, 'Lemmy would like to talk to you.' He had been ill for a while; nobody really knew it at the time. And we were very aware. And I walk in the dressing room and the first thing that struck me, really, was the sadness in his eyes. He… I could tell… It was like he was doing what he loved to the very end. His body was not cooperating with him, and I could relate to that big time, having broken my back, busted my knees, broken ribs… all that stuff. I'm a walking injury. And I could see it in his eyes that he was doing what he loved, and he wasn't ready to stop, but he just… It was hard, man."

He continued: "But [Lemmy's] first words [to me] were great. He'd sit there. We shake hands, give each other a hug. 'How're you doing, brother?' and all this. He goes, 'Hey, Phil. Wanna have a cigarette? We've gotta take care of our voices.' So he still had a sense of humor down up to the end. And it was just a reminder, man. We're all here, I guess, for a very brief time, and for a guy like that to have left such a huge mark… Big ups for Lemmy, man. I love the guy."

Lemmy, who celebrated his 70th birthday on Christmas Eve (December 24), learned two days later that he was afflicted with an aggressive form of cancer. He died two days later, on December 28, at his home in Los Angeles.

The MOTÖRHEAD frontman had dealt with several health issues over the past few years, including heart trouble, forcing him to cut back on his famous smoking and Jack Daniels habits.

The band was forced to cancel a number of shows last year, although they did manage to complete one final European tour on December 11.

CANCER BATS Frontman On PHILIP ANSELMO

CANCER BATS Frontman On PHILIP ANSELMO's 'White Power' Gesture: 'It Doesn't Look Like Someone Who's Just Joking Around'

Liam Cormier of the Canadian hardcore punk band CANCER BATS has weighed in on last month's incident when ex-PANTERA singer Philip Anselmo made a "white power" gesture onstage at a concert.

Anselmo performed the PANTERA classic "Walk" at the January 22 "Dimebash" event at the Lucky Strike Live in Hollywood, California in honor of his former bandmate, late PANTERA guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott. As he left the stage, he made a Nazi-style salute. He appeared to say "white power" as he made the gesture, but he later claimed he was referring to drinking white wine as part of an "inside joke." Anselmo has since released a video message, saying that he "deserves completely" the "heat" that he has been getting over his actions and claiming to be "a thousand percent apologetic to anyone that took offense to what [he] said."

Several notable musicians have come out and criticized the DOWN singer for his actions, including MACHINE HEAD frontman Robb Flynn, who uploaded an eleven-minute video response to the incident in which he called Anselmo a "big bully" and described Philip's behavior as "fucking wrong."

Now Cormier has commented on the incident in a new interview, saying that "the most important part about any of this is that it's actually bringing up a dialogue" about racism in metal. He told France's LoudTV.net (see video below): "Yeah, [the Anselmo thing is] definitely something we've been following really closely."

He added: "We've always grown up… Anti-racism is such a huge part of punk rock and anti-fascism, here in Europe… The first shows I ever played were anti-racist punk shows; that's how we all grew up going to shows. So, for us, yeah, I still think that that's an important dialogue that needs to happen and I don't think it's something that should be swept under the table. This is a huge figure in metal who is saying insane things on stage. And apologies or whatever… But I do think that the most important part about any of this is that it's actually bringing up a dialogue and that it's bringing up other things — like, people being, like, 'Well, Phil Anselmo said these insane things. People are speaking out against it.' It's, like, okay, well, let's also talk about [the Norwegian black metal band] BURZUM. Let's also talk about other racist figures in metal that not enough people are actually being vocal about, 'cause I think it's just as bad, if not worse. So I'm glad that that dialogue is actually happening and I'm glad that those things are actually coming to light. 'Cause I think there's a lot of people that don't realize that BURZUM is super racist as well. So I think that there are those kinds of dialogues that need to happen."

Cormier also commended the organizers of the Dutch festival FortaRock for pulling DOWN from this year's event in light of Anselmo's actions. He said: "It's, like, yeah, you shouldn't [have DOWN on the bill]. There's tons of [other] bands that are great. And I think DOWN's a great band and it's unfortunate that that happened, but if something like that comes to light, then it's, like, you need to own up to it."

Liam went on to say that he didn't know whether Anselmo truly has any racist views, but explained that there was no excuse for what the he did at Dimebash. "Yeah, I mean, he said it," Cormier explained. "Whether it was because he was drunk or whether it was because he was joking or a combination of the two, it's, like… I mean, you said it onstage. You also said it... that where it was recorded and put on the Internet. So there's no way to get around that. Which is… I mean, it sucks. It sucks all around. 'Cause it's, like, I love PANTERA. I love DOWN. So it's, like, is this guy super racist? I don't know. You know what I mean? I don't know Phil. I know that… I know what I saw on the Internet and it's definitely insane. It doesn't look like someone who's just joking around."

SINGLE BULLET THEORY Welcome Bassist BILL MEZ Back To The Fold - "This Has Been A Long Time Coming"

SINGLE BULLET THEORY Welcome Bassist BILL MEZ Back To The Fold - "This Has Been A Long Time Coming"

Single Bullet Theory, led by former Pissing Razors guitarist Matt DiFabio, have checked in with the following update:

Single Bullet Theory is extremely happy to announce the return of long time bassist Bill Mez to the fold. This has been a very long time coming and we are really looking forward to getting back out on the road with good ole' Thunderfoot holding up the low end.

Mez joined SBT in the winter of 2001 after a stint with Seven Witches and went on to record four of the band's first releases, appeared in two internationally distributed videos, one DVD, and a 'rare' compilation disc that was released in 2013. Mez also spent plenty of time down in the trenches as the band gained its momentum through relentless national touring. Including runs with King Diamond, Hypocrisy, Amorphis and Pissing Razors as well as hundreds of shows headlining.

With the addition of original drummer Johnny Sasso, the nucleus of the hardest working era of SBT is back in action. We cannot wait to see what we have in store next. Shows will be announced just as soon as we blow the cobwebs off and get back to being the well oiled machine that we are known to be. Time to work!"

Mez has issued the following statement:

"It was around 8 years ago when I put down the bass to focus on getting my life together after years of struggling to achieve big things in this very dear niche of the music industry we call metal. It was in no way an easy decision at the time and it has haunted me at various times since. Watching other bands on stage and especially SBT, I could never completely put behind me the emotions I felt about wanting to be up there again. I picked up the bass a few years ago for a one-off show with the band and have since been working on some new tunes for Matt's side project, The Killing Truth. Things have settled down for me recently and it just feels like a natural time to get back into the swing of things and fulfill this need which drove me for so many years. I am so grateful for the opportunity and cannot wait to tear some shit up. I guess the arena is calling my name..."

Watch the official Single Bullet Theory Facebook page for updates.

STRYPER

STRYPER's MICHAEL SWEET 'Forgives' PHILIP ANSELMO

STRYPER frontman Michael Sweet has weighed in on last month's incident when ex-PANTERA singer Philip Anselmo made a "white power" gesture onstage at a concert.

Several notable musicians have come out and criticized Anselmo for his actions, including MACHINE HEAD frontman Robb Flynn, who uploaded an eleven-minute video response to the incident in which he called Anselmo a "big bully" and described Philip's behavior as "fucking wrong."

Now Sweet has posted a statement on his Facebook page in which he says that he "forgives" Philip, explaining that Anselmo "legitimately seems sorrowful and regretful."

Said Sweet: "So I'm sure everyone in the metal community has heard about the Phil Anselmo fiasco. Every metal artist practically (okay, not every, but many) have chimed in and given their two cents.

"The way I look at it is Phil made a mistake (a very serious mistake, mind you) with his racial gesture and comment.

"We all agree that there is NO place for racism in this day in age. We're all created equal in God's eyes and therefore should be treated equally. With respect, dignity and love. But when someone starts drinking a little too much, often enough things are done and or said that may be offensive and hurtful. It's not an excuse, but it happens.

"What's bothering me is the fact that the guy has offered an open (public) apology and was man enough to step up and swallow his pride to ask for forgiveness. Seems simple enough to me. He legitimately seems sorrowful and regretful.

"I forgive the guy and write it off as a mistake. Live and learn and don't make the same mistake twice and move on.

"Maybe my way of thinking is too simple for something like this.

"I know this much, God loves him and forgives not only Phil but all of us if we ask for forgiveness. Why can't we?

"I forgive you, Phil, and I love ya, brother."

AFTER THE BURIAL - Dig Deep Album Teaser Video Streaming

Minneapolis outfit After The Burial have released a new teaser for their forthcoming album, Dig Deep, out February 19th via Sumerian Records. Check it out below:

“When you think you don’t have anything left in you, you have to rely on that inner strength,” says guitar player Trent Hafdahl. “That’s where we are as a band. So many things beyond our control went wrong, but we started to dig deep as brothers.”

“We went through hell to finish this record, and the music translates that,” singer Anthony Notarmaso agrees. “Trent worked his ass off, and it shows. It’s crazy because I think it brought us closer as band. Justin wrote some riffs that ended up on the, but after a couple of days in the studio he left. He obviously wasn’t okay, and we wanted him to get well. I arrived a few days after the guys had gotten there. I never got to see him.” Notarmaso is referring to the untimely death of the band mate Justin Lowe in July.

Pre-orders for the nine-song album are available now with instant downloads of “Lost In The Static” and “Collapse” available with digital downloads via iTunes and Google Play.  Physical bundles are available via Sumerian Records here.

Dig Deep was recorded at Graphic Nature Audio in New Jersey with producer Will Putney (The Amity Affliction, Upon A Burning Body). The album is the first where the band partnered with a producer.

“We had not tried it before,” explains Hafdahl. “It felt like a fresh idea to do something new. We were still running the show obviously, but he brought a good ear for tone and melody. He encouraged us to explore more. To have that perspective was helpful.”

Tracklisting:

“Collapse”
“Lost In The Static”
“Mire”
“Deluge”
“Laurentian Ghosts”
“Heavy Lies The Ground”
“Catacombs”
“The Endless March”
“Sway Of The Break”

BLOODTHIRST Reveal Glorious Sinners Artwork, Tracklisting

BLOODTHIRST Reveal Glorious Sinners Artwork, Tracklisting

Thrash/black metal outfit, Bloodthirst, have revealed the artwork and tracklisting for their upcoming mini-album, Glorious Sinners. The lyrics along with the artwork create a concept exposing of the deceitfulness of the Vatican hierarchy. Kontamination Design was in charge of the artwork and the whole graphic design of the release.

Glorious Sinners, includes five brand new tracks, was recorded at Left Hand Sounds studio. The recording lineup features Rambo (guitar, vocals), Gregor (guitars, vocal), Rybosh (bass) and Mnt (drums).

The mini-album will be released through Pagan Records on April 8th in standard CD and digital formats.

Tracklisting:

“The Viper's Nest”
“The Reign Of The Antichrist”
“The Masterpiece Of Lie”
“No God Shall Stand Before The Pope”
“Sacco di Roma”

Bloodthirst were formed in 1999 in the Goat City of Poznań, Poland. After a few demos and split releases they have signed to the highly acclaimed Pagan Records and released three full-length albums: Let Him Die (2007), Sanctity Denied (2009) and Chalice Of Contempt (2014). Their sound is based on the classical thrash pounding but also widely influenced by black and death metal of the 90s.

Over the years they have proven themselves in the metal scene to be one of the most respected Polish black/thrash ensembles which in turn led to opportunities to perform with cult names such as Samael, Destroyer 666, Nunslaughter, Aura Noir, Kat, Vader and other respected Polish bands. Never part of the pathetic “old-school” hype, always spitting in the face of the modern trend, the four emissaries of hellfire and malice, have trodden their own path of Hateful Antichristian Thrash.

Having solidified their current line-up (with Gregor handling the second axe since 2015), holding their heads up high and proudly drinking to the diabolical, Bloodthirst are ready to unleash Glorious Sinners.

Check out the title track from their album Chalice Of Contempt (2014):

REZET - Teutonic Thrash Metal Band Sign With Mighty Music; New Album Due This Spring

REZET - Teutonic Thrash Metal Band Sign With Mighty Music; New Album Due This Spring

Mighty Music welcomes Teutonic thrash metal band, Rezet, to the family.

School mates Ricky Wagner and Thorben Schulz started Rezet in 2003 in Schleswig, Schleswig-Holstein, when they were only 12 and 13 years old. The band has to far released two albums, Have Guns Will Travel in 2010 and Civic Nightmares from 2012, and performed at Wacken Open Air, Headbangers Open Air and been touring heavily across Europe.

Reality Is A Lie is the third album from Rezet, recorded and mixed by Patrick Bieler (Revolverheld and Royal Republic) and mastered by Harris Johns (Sodom, Tankard, Sepultura). The album contains 12 tracks of fast speed/thrash metal-parts that lead to the greatest choruses and hook lines Rezet have written so far, embedded in a soundscape that neither gets boring or tiresome nor does it come across as too progressive or complicated. For fans of old Megadeth, Kreator and Exodus.

Reality Is A Lie will be released in spring 2016 on CD, LP and digitally by Mighty Music. More details to follow

Rezet lineup:

Ricky Wagner - Lead Guitar, Vocals
