Guitarist TOBY KNAPP Announces Blues Album And Final ONWARD Record
Knapp explains: “I decided it’s time to continue with this album because it’s naturally falling in line with how I’m playing the guitar and coming up with riffs these days. It’s something I can wrap up quickly before I release a long promised Onward album.”
The guitarist will handle vocal duties “emboldened” by the overall positive reception of his cleaner vocal delivery on the recently released solo album Toby Knapp’s Evermoving Power Metal Prophecy.
“My vocals on Power Metal Prophecy were decently received and I’m improving all the time so I think it will be cool to handle vocals right alongside my developing skills playing slide. This album is crucial for me because I’ve been making metal records for decades and I have to follow this departure into new territory for my own musical survival. It’s certainly not a permanent departure from heavy metal however.”
Knapp assures his listeners the album won’t be a complete shock to the system: “Heavy metal is rooted in blues and the guys that got me interested in playing guitar were the blues trio launched from The Yardbirds (Clapton, Beck, Page) and Ritchie Blackmore. If we look at the first heavy metal albums created, they were actually very dark and heavy blues records. I think the listeners will be pleased because I’m not really deviating, but I am leaning heavily into my roots. I’m also wanting to play live more often in different places so I’m trying to open up that door. Another Waxen album or Neoclassical “shred” album isn’t going to do anything. I’m 54, I want to play as much as possible while it’s still possible.”
The solo album, Autonomous Closing, will be promoted and released by the usual channels in late 2026, followed soon after by Onward’s final album, Chrono-Gnostic Aeon.
These two albums are woven together by a very specific spiritual and philosophical ideology rooted in Gnosticism “which is actually the driving force behind anything I do.”
