Aeon Gods have released a visualizer video for "Aeon Gods", first single taken from the debut album, King Of Gods, to be released on November 22 via Scarlet Records.
In this epic metal anthem, the Babylonian god Marduk leads his valiant warriors into a fierce battle against the dark mother goddess Tiamat. With thunderous battle chants and heavy guitar riffs, the song proclaims the glory of the Aeon Gods – making it a true outstanding heavy metal hymn. Watch the visualizer below.
After the long-standing symphonic metal unit Aeternitas dissolved, their masterminds Anja and Alex Hunzinger immediately conjured up a new concept and found a different musical home built around a cinematic sound flavoured by elements of power and symphonic metal: Aeon Gods emerged as the modern messengers of the ancient mythological gods, infusing new blood into the epic metal scene.
King Of Gods brings the timeless Babylonian legends to life and allows the listener to experience the grand battles between the gods, where celestial forces clash and destinies are forged. The German band narrates these tales through an imperial blend of strong & catchy choruses, powerful beats, and majestic sounds – enter the new prophets of the word, enter Aeon Gods.
Mixed and mastered by Sebastian 'Seeb' Levermann (Orden Ogan, Brainstorm, Rhapsody Of Fire), and graced by the stunning cover courtsey of Peter Sallai, King Of Gods will be released in the following formats:
Italian progressive metal masters, DGM, share the new single and official video, “Final Call”, taken from their new studio album, Endless, out on October 18 via Frontiers Music Srl. Pre-order the album here, and watch the new clip below.
Guitarist Simone Mularoni had to say the following about “Final Call”: “It's very difficult to extract one or two singles from a concept album, because you're always afraid that it doesn't fully represent the overall vision of the album. Final Call is a fast, hard rock song with the typical melodic sounds of DGM but with a more experimental/psychedelic interlude in a Porcupine Tree style, that acts as a link to the more acoustic and reflective parts of the rest of the concept. As always, we hope that the chorus will be sung by everyone at the live shows!”
With Endless, DGM reach the 12th Album milestone: not often bands can evolve and present two stunning albums in a relatively short time frame, but this is exactly what DGM have done, offering a new album which is a substantial departure compared to the acclaimed “Life” which was released in late 2023.
Endless is a concept album that chronicles one man's imaginative journey to understand the choices that shaped his life. Through vivid storytelling, the album explores the eternal question - how might life be different if I had taken another path?
The first part of the album represents the protagonist's self-reflection on his current circumstances. He grapples with uncertainty over the decisions that led him to where he is and wonders about the phantom lives he has not lived. The middle section looks back on some pivotal moments. With the clarity of hindsight, the character imagines alternative timelines springing from hypothetical choices.
The listener feels the anguish and regret over missed opportunities. In the final act, our hero reaches the end of his vision quest. Though older and wiser, he remains plagued by the inexplicable 'why' behind life's meandering road. Themes of fate and free will collide in the album's lingering last notes.
Ultimately, Endless transcends one man's story through the universality of its concept. We all have moments where we wonder about the paths not travelled. By exploring the plurality of possibilities, this album encourages self-forgiveness and living fully in the journey ahead.
Musically, Endless offers a different side from the band which exposes a lot of different influences ranging from ‘70s progressive rock (from Kansas, to Yes and Jethro Tull) even with a dash of Italian progressive rock (think Banco or PFM).
Different instruments such as violins, flutes and sax, peep out in the songs but still the band does not lose their contemporary metal trademark and offers their most mature, relevant and absolutely stunning album ever.

LINKIN PARK — Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson, Dave "Phoenix" Farrell, Joe Hahn, Emily Armstrong and Colin Brittain — continue their triumphant drive with a hard-hitting new single titled "Heavy Is The Crown", out now. Watch the music video below.
The song serves as the 2024 League Of Legends World Championship anthem, marking the band's first collaboration with Riot Games. The track kicks into high gear as an anthem equally appropriate for the high-octane multi-dimensional competition of League Of Legends and music festival grounds worldwide. Of course, "Heavy Is The Crown" also paves the way for LINKIN PARK's first album since 2017, "From Zero", due on November 15.
LINKIN PARK are in the midst of their six-date arena run for the "From Zero" world tour, which sold out in mere minutes. Due to heavy demand, today they announce three additional stadium shows for 2024 in Paris, Dallas, and São Paulo. LP Underground fan club exclusive presales start September 25 and general on-sales start September 27.
"Heavy Is The Crown" lands in the wake of the band's first new music in seven years "The Emptiness Machine". Right out of the gate, "The Emptiness Machine" surged as a global smash with a seismic impact. It vaulted into the Top 5 of the Spotify Global chart, clinched No. 1 at both Alternative and Rock Radio, catapulted to No. 1 on the Billboard Alternative and Rock Airplay chart, and infiltrated the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 21. The single has tallied unprecedented numbers for a modern rock song at DSPs, generating north of 95 million Spotify streams and 28 million YouTube views on the music video. Not to mention, LINKIN PARK just reached another benchmark, exceeding over 54 million monthly listeners on Spotify and becoming "the top-streamed rock band on the platform" and one of the "40 top-streamed artists globally on the platform."
Taking over popular culture, they just gave "The Emptiness Machine" its late-night television debut with a powerhouse performance on NBC's "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon".
Earning acclaim, The New York Times hailed "The Emptiness Machine" as a "bombastic new track," going on to assert, "the band is now ready to carry on as closely as possible the way it was before." Of their return to the stage, The Los Angeles Times professed, "LINKIN PARK comes roaring back with more than an echo of its past." As part of an in-depth cover story, Billboard attested, "'From Zero' pulsates with renewed energy, a dynamic extension of LINKIN PARK's multifaceted aesthetic," applauding how, "Across the board, they carry a sense of pace and urgency — as if the band members refused to let up or phone in one moment of their grand return."
Ultimately, with "From Zero", the band is looking to harness the purest energy of their past, present, and future. The new era has officially begun.

Today, Kings Of Mercia share the second single from their new album, out October 25 via Metal Blade Records. The track is entitled "Aftermath" and it has a new music video. Watch below.
"'Aftermath' is "very dark," vocalist Steve Overland comments. "It's about what will be left behind in the end. What will be left on the planet. It's a very dark track and very dark subject matter."
"I almost didn't send this one to Steve, and when I did I was certain he wouldn't like it," says guitarist Jim Matheos. "I'm glad I did though, as it's one of my favorites on the album now. It's quite different for us and I think Steve really shines on this one."
Now and again, art offers up the perfect storm. When creative worlds collide with a furious cacophony of power, licks, and lyrics, magic happens. Such is the case with KINGS OF MERCIA, whose second album, 'Battle Scars,' is the continuation of a story as unlikely as it is glorious. The band is helmed by guitarist Jim Matheos (Fates Warning) and singer Steve Overland (FM) who are joined by drummer Simon Phillips (The Who, Toto) and bassist Joey Vera (Armored Saint, Fates Warning).
Kings Of Mercia's 2022 approachable, world-class self-titled debut was termed "truly a hybrid: it's heavy, but not metal. It's got tones of melodic AOR hard rock but with an edge." Now, 2024 brings the band's sophomore album written and recorded throughout 2023, Battle Scars sees the core writing team of Matheos and Overland expanding on their obvious chemistry.
"I think it was a bit easier this time around because we've established a good working rhythm," states Matheos, "I'll send Steve at least a few songs every couple of months, and I try to keep them varied. This allows him to work on whichever ones he feels strongly about."
"What Jim sends me is the first draft of that song," says Overland. "So once he's heard all the melodies and the harmonies I sing, he can chop it about and make it how he thinks it should be. He always sends me three or four different versions. He'll say, 'What do you think? Which do you like?' Then we work it out between us and come up with the one we're both happy with."
"Steve and I started working together in 2021," says Matheos. "I was aware of FM-they came up around the same time as Fates Warning - but I'd lost touch with them and wasn't familiar with their more recent work. When Steve was recommended to me, I checked out some of the newer releases and felt Steve was exactly what I was looking for."
"It's a different genre of music that I'm normally involved in," says Overland, whose voice has been likened to other British greats Paul Rodgers and Glenn Hughes. "Obviously, I'd heard of Fates Warning - they're a very big cult band in their field. Jim and I touched base, and I told him to send me one backing track. If it sounds great, then it's a win-win. If it doesn't, we'll just call it a day, knock it on the head, not take it any further. That song became 'Humankind' from the first album. I wrote the melodies and the title and put it all together. Jim got it and he was blown away. So we made a couple more. I loved doing it. It was just such a different challenge for me."
Those songs would become the self-titled debut album, which was released in 2022. Written during lockdown, bouncing tracks across the Atlantic, Kings Of Mercia found its mojo. Fans of Fates Warning, FM, and Armored Saint all rejoiced at the common ground on Kings Of Mercia, the sweet spot in the middle of the Venn diagram.
It's a true collaboration that has led to KOM's Battle Scars. However, despite the unfolding sound and clear chemistry between the four Kings, Overland has never met his bandmates in person. 'Battle Scars,' like its predecessor, is a slab of transatlantic magic.

Former Megadeth guitarist, Kiko Loureiro, has released the new video below, along with the following message:
"This is a music video for the song 'In Motion' from the Open Source album. The footage is from Kiko Loureiro's live performance at the stunning Ópera de Arame in Curitiba, Brazil. This unique performance captures the energy and passion of the audience, set against the beautiful backdrop of one of the country's most iconic venues."
Kiko recently shared his new single, "Out Of Nothing". He followed up with a playthrough video, which can be viewed below. Guitar tabs are available for free here.
Says Kiko: "My new single 'Out Of Nothing' emerges not from a plan but from the mystery of creation itself. When I compose, I do not think, nor do I theorize - I let my hands glide over the fretboard, as if they already know the way, discovering paths, rejecting others, always searching for the feeling that satisfies, even for a moment.
"'Out Of Nothing' kicks off with a bold tritone interval - “Diabolus in Musica,” that notorious interval known for its tension. It’s a simple, direct statement that immediately shifts the key, setting up a dynamic riff alternating between A and D with their tritones. The intensity ramps up with 16th notes that launch the track into high gear.
"The verse is simple, almost baroque in its harmony. A Tonic and Dominant, Am to E7, arpeggiated with hybrid picking over the rhythm of Baião, a syncopation from the northeastern reaches of Brazil. The original music from this area also incorporates many arpeggiated themes from European heritage.
"And then, bringing contrast, the chromatic lines arrive to challenge this basic cadence, introducing the mediant progression—Am to Fm.
"For the chorus, I take things up a notch, moving to the fifth degree and playing with the tension between E major and minor, As I didn’t feel the chorus should be completely happy and uplifting.
"In the middle of the song, I let the existing elements repeat, develop, and transform, as one might do in a symphony or a sonata. The arpeggios return, expanding the baroque spirit, and then, unexpectedly, nylon strings echo from a distant past. Before long, the tritone chord progression returns, but now with more complex lines and a mix of techniques.
"But I will not leave you lost. The verse and chorus return, as familiar as old friends. For in this song, though I take you far, I am careful never to lose you entirely.
STORACE, Swiss rock legend Marc Storace's eponymous band, has released the official music video for his new single, "Rock This City", out now via Frontiers Music Srl.
Commenting on the single, Marc had this to say: "'Rock This City' is about a relationship gone wrong saved by a young man's ability to snap out of his negative state of mind to win back the love of his life. A great song for our live shows!"
Maltese-born-Swiss musician Marc Storace started his exceptional musical career in 1970, with the Swiss cult progressive band TEA, which became a very successful band and with whom he released five LPs. Marc gained attention for his frontmanship and high-pitched raunchy vocal tone.
In 1979, Marc became the voice of KROKUS, the most successful hard rock band from Switzerland. After their first album with Marc, "Metal Rendez-Vous", KROKUS played several world tours, sold over 15 million records, and won many gold and platinum awards.
After the group disbanded, Marc formed the band BLUE, who released their self-titled album in 1991, including the widely known hit "You Can't Stop The Rainfall".
In the 1990s and 2000s, Marc acted in two feature films ("Anuk" and "Handyman") and reached gold status with various KROKUS formations and three LPs. With many guest appearances such as on "Rock Meets Classic", SWEET 50th anniversary, Ken Hensley live in Switzerland, "Schubert In Rock", and on Manfred Ehlert's albums "Amen" and the rock opera "Test", Marc remained present with his fans.
In 2008, fans were surprised by the news that the original KROKUS formation would be touring again. The success was tremendous: tours in USA, Japan, Europe and South America as well as two new studio LPs, which, in turn, earned platinum status. In December 2019, KROKUS played a farewell concert at the sold-out Hallenstadion in Zurich.
At the beginning of 2021, Marc started working on his solo career as STORACE and at the end of 2021, he released his first solo album "Live And Let Live". In the middle of the pandemic, Marc started his first tour in Switzerland accompanied by the album's studio band. Since May 2022, Marc has been performing with his new band and rocking the stage like never before.
STORACE is:
Marc Storace - Vocals
Dom Favez - Rhythm Guitar
Serge Christen - Lead Guitar
Patrick Aeby - Drums
Emi Meyer - Bass
KROKUS has been playing sporadic shows in recent years, including the Riverside Aarburg festival in August 2023.
In September 2022, KROKUS played a special concert on the steps of the St. Ursus Cathedral in Solothurn, Switzerland. In addition, Solothurn honored the band with a "Stone Of Honor" on its 2000th anniversary. KROKUS also returned to the "holy ground of rock" in Switzerland, the Hallenstadion in Zürich, on May 6, 2023.
Four years ago, KROKUS postponed what was supposed to be the band's last-ever concerts in USA and Canada due to the coronavirus pandemic that was sweeping the globe.
When KROKUS first announced its decision to embark on a farewell tour in September 2018, the band explained in a statement: "KROKUS shows have always been special and should stay that way. That's why we decided to stop when it's still really good. That's how the fans should remember us."
Formed in 1975, KROKUS has sold over 15 million records, toured the world, and received gold and platinum discs in the USA and Canada. KROKUS was also the first Swiss band to sell out Hallenstadion and has received a diamond disc for selling one million albums in Switzerland alone.
In the course of its career, KROKUS has rocked over 2,000 shows on five continents, countless cities, unique locations, crazy gigs, and loyal fans.
English rock journalist Malcolm Dome quite rightly said: "If you look at the long-term output of this band, KROKUS is clearly one of the best hard rock bands of the last 40 years."
Danish-Swedish quartet VOLA has released a pulverizing new single, "Cannibal", which features IN FLAMES' Anders Fridén on vocals. The song is taken from VOLA's upcoming album, "Friend Of A Phantom", which will be released on November 1 via Mascot Records. You can watch the official "Cannibal" music video below, also featuring Fridén.
Talking about the song, the band says: "VOLA's music is heavily shaped by melodic death metal, so having Anders Fridén from the legendary IN FLAMES featured on 'Cannibal' is a dream come true for us. We feel truly fortunate and are enormously proud of the result."
Fridén explains how he got involved with the song, saying: "I have been a fan of VOLA since their first album. They are constantly evolving and, to me, are one of the most interesting bands out right now." He continues: "During the recording of our last album, I had the opportunity to meet the band and witness an incredible show at The Troubadour in L.A. Cut to a few months later, I was approached if I would be interested in being on a song for their next album. It was a yes without hesitation. It's an honor to be part of this monster of a song. Bang your head if you know what's good for you!"
VOLA elaborates on how the collaboration and song came about: "When we toured North America in the fall of 2023, Anders and Björn from IN FLAMES attended our concert at The Troubadour in Los Angeles. They came backstage before the show to chat with us, and it turned out they were big fans of the band. Quite a surreal experience, given that IN FLAMES have played a huge part in forming our musical DNA. When we came home from the tour, we dug deep into recording 'Friend Of A Phantom', and during that process, we began discussing whether 'Cannibal' would benefit from having guest vocals. We all agreed that having some really powerful screams in there would elevate the song, and having just created a bond with Anders meant that it was the easiest decision in the world to ask him if he wanted to be a part of the track. Anders quickly said yes to participate, and eventually, he both recorded vocals and came to Denmark to shoot the video with us. We were thrilled, to say the least!"
The song marries the euphoric and epic but complex and crushing sound that has become distinctively VOLA with a visually stunning video to accompany the song.
"Working with Vertigo and Riivata Visuals on the music video was incredible," VOLA adds. "We filmed the video in a gigantic hall in Denmark, with plenty of big lights and lasers, including a large triangle light at the back of the hall. To top it all off, Anders came to Denmark to join us and be part of the video. It was a fantastic experience, and the footage captured the heavy side of VOLA in its essence."
VOLA has already released three singles from the album. "Paper Wolf" sees an old-school metal atmosphere creep into their blend of sounds. "Break My Lying Tongue" offers a deep dive into themes of misalignment and emotional vulnerability, whereas the most recent single, "I Don't Know How We Got Here", interweaves stories about tragic events in society with a story about a relationship slowly dying out. "It seeks to portray the feeling of disbelief that follows when something valuable vanishes right in front of us," explains Asger Mygind.
It has been three years since the release of VOLA's defining album, "Witness". They've since wrapped up two tours of the US with several venues upgraded due to overwhelming demand, as well as sold-out shows in New York, L.A., and Chicago. Their first tour of Canada resulted in sold-out shows in Toronto and Montreal, and they rounded off the continent with triumphant South American shows in Mexico, Brazil, and a sold-out show in Chile. The quartet — Asger Mygind (vocals/guitar),Martin Werner (keys),Nicolai Mogensen (bass) and Adam Janzi (drums) — are now to set free their fourth studio album. Their strength has always been combining a multitude of ideas within a single song, packing it in with a grandiose power that can be as ferocious as it can be delicate.

“I never intended to pick up with The Gates Of Slumber ever again in 2014. While I did start the band and wrote most of the first album, it was never intended to be a one man show.” - Karl Simon, 2024
Indiana’s true doom metal legends, The Gates Of Slumber, return with a new album, out on Svart Records in November. The self-titled album is the band’s first full length offering since The Wretch from 2011. First taste from the upcoming sixth album is out today. Listen to the new single, "Embrace The Lie", an ode to the lying news media and political talking heads. Stream the single here, and check out a visualizer below.
The Gates Of Slumber was formed by Karl Simon in 1998. Various people were in and out of the group between 1998 and 2001, when the Blood Encrusted Deth Axe demo was recorded with Jamie Walters of Boulder on drums and Dr. Phibes/Athenar (later to form the cult black metal band Midnight) on bass. In 2003 Jason McCash took over the bass duties and was a long-time member of the band until his untimely demise in 2014, after which Simon decided it was time to call it quits. That was until 2019 when the renowned metal festival Hell Over Hammaburg wanted to bring the band back on stage to perform at the festival’s 2020 edition. Simon reformed the band with its original member Chuck Brown on drums and Steve Janiak on bass and got back to work. “We’d been asked several times to play Hell Over Hammaburg. But there was no “we” to play. The germ of the idea started. We started re-learning songs from the first LP. It wasn’t too long into the rehearsals that we started coming up with new songs,” states Simon.
After a reunion tour was finished, Covid kicked in to slow down the process. Half of the album was already written but the remaining half took its time, and the songs were left to stew in their juices. With bastard heavy songs honoring the doom metal greats Saint Vitus and Penance, straight forward bangers, lyrics inspired by the black death and John Carpenter’s The Fog, The Gates Of Slumber is a truly crushing album and a must listen to any doom metal fanatic.
The Gates Of Slumber is available on Svart exclusive black/white marble vinyl, limited transparent blue vinyl, black vinyl, CD, and digital platforms on November 29. Pre-save the digital edition here, and pre-order the physical edition here.

Without expectations, Shinoda, Delson, Farrell, and Hahn quietly began meeting up again in recent years. Rather than “trying to restart the band,” their instinct was to simply spend more time together, and reconnect with the creativity and camaraderie that has been at the core of their friendship since college. During this time, they invited various friends and cohorts to join them in the studio; among the guests, they found a special kinship with Armstong and Brittain. A natural chemistry drew these musicians back into its gravitational pull as they logged more and more hours in the studio. It was the sound of lifelong musicians rediscovering the uncontainable energy of a new beginning once again. Over this season, From Zero was born.
About the new era, Shinoda stated, “Before Linkin Park, our fi
In a new video shared by former Skid Row frontman Erik Grönwall, he performs the Celine Dion version of the Eric Carmen song, "All By Mself", originally released in 1975.

"As teens, we dreamt of playing places like the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ and CBGB in New York City... our dreams became bigger with London, England at the forefront. We fantasized one day to headline a show in the very city where so many of our favorite bands came from," the band says.
Following the release of their critically acclaimed, hugely fan-embraced 2022 album The Gang's All Here, the band took the 02 stage on October 22 and delivered a Skid Row set for the ages. Running through their multi-platinum career, the packed venue could barely contain the band's and the fans’ energy on "18 And Life," "Monkey Business," "I Remember You" and so many other peak Skid Row moments.

Former Sabaton guitarist / Majestica frontman Tommy Johansson has shared his weekly cover, this time performing the Alphaville hit, "Forever Young", originally released in 1984.
Majestica are back with their first new music of 2024. The Swedish power metal quartet proudly presents their latest single, "A New Beginning", which is the band's first release since 2021. Therefore, the song name not only fits in relation to this, but also speaks about a new beginning and letting things come to an end. Paired with musical elements reminiscent of the 80s, Majestica unleashes a new catchy tune upon their fans that puts the band back on the radar.
As if the release of this brand new single wasn't enough, Majestica have also delivered a brand new music video for their single, which you can watch below.
US hard rockers SteelCity have released their new studio album, “Reverence”, via Frontiers Music Srl. The new track “No Angel” and the accompanying visualizer are also out now.
Bassist Jason Cornwell describes the track as “a musical piece that showcases a perfect blend of technical precision and emotional depth, with the added bonus of a memorable hook.”
Initially started as a solo project by founding member, principal songwriter, and guitarist Mike Floros, SteelCity evolved into the band that it is today. Their influences include such melodic and hard rock heavyweights as KISS, Europe, and Winger. The name SteelCity is derived from the hard-working, blue-collar, Mid-Western town of Youngstown, Ohio.
By carefully assembling the most skilled, talented rock musicians available, Mike molded a band that became a vaunted force in the melodic hard rock underground. Enter Roy Cathey, lead vocalist extraordinaire. As a member of the early-90s sensation Cold Sweat, his Herculean voice has been appreciated by audiences worldwide.
Holding down the bottom end is Jason Cornwell, an experienced studio and touring musician, “The Boston Bassman” has shared the stage with such luminaries as Eric Martin. Skilled drummer Anthony White, also of Cold Sweat fame, completes the rhythm section.
Rounding out the group is Tony Stahl, whose keyboards bring texture and depth to SteelCity’s songs, thus completing the shape of their sound.

Portland, Oregon's Unto Others spent their seasons in the abyss and arise from the other side with their third full-length Never, Neverland, out today via Century Media.
The record is equally drey while never letting go of the energy and darkness that is Unto Others; one that owes as much to The Cure as it does to self-professed influences like The Sisters of Mercy and Iron Maiden. Simply put: this is the record where Unto Others prove themselves far more than just a one-trick, blackened steed, but instead, a band on the verge of something wickedly terrible and utterly timeless.
To celebrate Never, Neverland's release, Unto Others have shared an electrifying performance video for album single "Suicide Today." Gabriel Franco comments, "The song is about bad decisions, and how they can proliferate into a hard life, or a sad death. Living in a big city, you see a lot of sadness and despair. So much you can bathe in it if you want. I used to be fascinated with these things, and it comes out in a lot of our music. But I as I get older I am more interested in the silver linings that surround it all. The beauty of someone lending a helping hand, or a simple kind gesture. These are the ways one person can make a difference. 'Suicide Today' is a positive song. I hope someone who needs it can take something from it worthwhile."
Never, Neverland also marks a new epoch for Unto Others (rounded out by guitarist Sebastian Silva, bassist Brandon Hill and drummer Colin Vranizan). Having emerged in 2017, the band turned heads with the Don't Waste Your Time EP, followed by the beloved 2019 full length Mana and 2021's heavy hitting Strength LP. Now, Unto Others build upon the seductive and beguiling foundation they've hewn out of a bedrock of goth, classic rock, punk, black metal and heavy metal.
Bringing in producer Tom Dalgety for Never, Neverland was a welcome change for Franco and crew. The results of the month spent in Portland’s Falcon Studios (where they recorded Mana) with Dalgety deliver majestically on Unto Others’ shadowy promise— guitars swell and thrash with color and shape while a newfound confidence and dimension creeps into Gabe’s vocals. Never, Neverland weaves a spell of its own and cements Unto Others as the reflectively-bespeckled visage of goth today.
GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Slash was joined by AC/DC singer Brian Johnson at the inaugural Sky Arts Awards at the Roundhouse in London, United Kingdom on Tuesday (September 17) to perform a cover of Howlin' Wolf's "Killing Floor". Professionally filmed video of the performance — courtesy of Johnson's official YouTube channel, Brian Johnson TV — can be seen below.
Slash collaborated with Johnson on a cover of "Killing Floor" for the guitarist's latest solo album, "Orgy Of The Damned", a collection of 12 revitalized blues classics. The track features Johnson on vocals and AEROSMITH's Steven Tyler on harmonica.
Regarding how he got Johnson and Tyler to appear on "Killing Floor", Slash told Steve Migs of Audacy Check In: "That's a good question. I had the song and I was trying to think who would be great to do it. And Brian came to mind. And I've known Brian for a pretty long time now. And he just has that great kind of grit to his voice. And I called him up and it turns out that he's a huge fuckin' Howlin' Wolf protégé. And so he had been in cover bands before AC/DC and even before GEORDIE. And also, he was telling me that he's doing something at present where he's putting together sort of a blues-orchestra thing. Don't quote me on that, but something to that [effect]. Anyway, and so he was excited to do that particular song anyway. And that's the key thing that you're looking for, is that when you call any of these great artists up and you have a cover song that you want to attack and if they would be willing to participate, that the song speaks to them, that it has meaning to them too, not just me. And that's how it was with Brian. He was, like, 'Oh, fucking great. Yeah, let's do this.' And then Steven Tyler came in. He came to my studio after Brian had already done the vocal. And I'm trying to remember exactly… I mean, he came in to do the harmonica or he just happened to have a harmonica with him. I can't remember, but I played him the track. It was, like, 'This is great.' So it was very spontaneous. It was very just sort of inspired in the moment, which is a great thing to be able to capture, especially nowadays because people just, by and large, don't make records like that now. Everything is very well thought out and cultivated and homogenized and produced, and this was just very, very off the cuff."
Released in May via Gibson Records, "Orgy Of The Damned" also features such guest vocalists as Iggy Pop, THE BLACK CROWES' Chris Robinson, Gary Clark Jr., ZZ TOP's Billy F Gibbons, Dorothy, BAD COMPANY's Paul Rodgers, pop star Demi Lovato and country artist Chris Stapleton.
The video for "Killing Floor", which can be seen below, offers a look at Slash and his blues band — Johnny Griparic (bass),Teddy Andreadis (keyboards),Michael Jerome (drums) and Tash Neal (vocals/guitar) — recording the song in the studio.
Slash previously said about the track: "'Killing Floor' is one of my favorite Howlin' Wolf songs, but also one of the iconic blues riffs that turned me on as a young guitar player. I've always wanted to cover it in some capacity and this record was the perfect vehicle. But playing it with this band, and with Brian Johnson singing, it was an achievement I would never have imagined back then. Let alone Steven Tyler providing the harp."
Johnson stated: "When Slash asked me to sing on 'Killing Floor', I said yes immediately. It was one of the first songs I learned in my very first band, and when he played me the backing track it was a no-brainer, and Steven's harmonica is so bloody hot. I had a ball with Slash in the studio, and I think we did this great old song justice. Rock on."
ProgPower USA 2024 took place from September 4 - 7th, 2024, at Center Stage, in Atlanta, GA. Aristsi on the bill included Amorphis, Winger, Frozen Crown, Elegy, Soen, Striker, Pagan's Mind and more.
Promoter Glenn Harveston has shared the following message in the aftermath:
"There has been universal praise across social media that Winger not only had the best sound this year, but perhaps in the history of the fest. Every single thing was crystal clear and pitch perfect....and zero backing tracks.
There are two reasons:
1) Their soundman is world class.
2) They took this show so seriously that they went out and rented the exact FOH board that Center Stage has and rehearsed with it for a few days prior to the fest. They soundchecked for 45 mins on Saturday morning without even going through a full song - just jumped around to certain verses and choruses of different songs: 'Third chorus, A- minor...' and they instantly started on that spot.
I have never seen anything like it. They were just testing various sound aspects they had worked on prior to even walking in the door. No one has ever done that at the fest and I doubt no one ever will again."

Des Moines metal bruisers, Vended, have released of their debut, self-titled, self-released album.
What began in 2018 as Cole Espeland (guitar), Griffin Taylor (vocals), Simon Crahan (drums), Jeremiah Pugh (bass) and Connor Grodzicki (guitar) were just teenagers, has escalated into a full scale movement with legions of diehard fans around the globe. Unwavering DIY work ethic, a born ability to create colossal, unhinged songs and years perfecting their craft on the road have led to this moment as the band become the torchbearers for a new generation of metal fans.
On Vended's follow-up to 2021's What Is It/Kill It EP, the band holds nothing back on 13 cataclysmic tracks of unbridled savagery. Produced by Chris Collier (Korn), the record features 13 rage-fuelled tracks, including previously released singles "Am I The Only One," "The Far Side," "Nihilism" and "Serenity."
Commenting on the record, the band says, "We see this record as an outsider’s depiction of the world we live in. And a reflection of one’s self as we drift through life’s emotions.. This album is completely raw and uncompromising. We wanted to convey the aggression we felt while making it, and give fans a glimpse into that side of Vended. Welcome to the world as we know it.”
In conjunction with the album's release, Vended has revealed a music video for their song, "Where The Honesty Lies". Watch the clip below, and order Vended on vinyl & CD here. Save Vended here.
