Guitarist Marcelo Gelbcke says: "'No Tomorrow' is another song that has a very strong fingerprint of what Landfall is all about. Melodies, choirs, rich harmonies and rhythmic changes. We wanted to navigate to a more AOR vibe on this one. It was also inspired by the passing of the great actor Carl Weathers, paying homage to his most remarkable character: Apollo Creed. There’s a line on Rocky III that Apollo says to an unmotivated Rocky: “There is no tomorrow!”. We thought it would be nice to write a song about this theme - Doing everything we can do today and not leaving anything for tomorrow. A song about motivation, goals and determination.”
"'No Tomorrow' is one of my favorite songs on the album. I believe it was a great choice for a single ‘cause at the same time it is powerful it is also a very catchy song”, adds vocalist Gui Oliver.
Landfall, the hard rockers from Curitiba, Brazil, features singer Gui Oliver (ex-Auras), guitarist Marcelo Gelbcke, bassist Luis Rocha, and drummer Felipe Souzza, are back with an almighty bang.
The band’s delightful melodic rock/AOR sound can best be described as falling somewhere between classic melodic rock, a là Journey, and slightly heavier influences, such as classic era Dokken, White Lion, and Extreme. With phenomenal musical and songwriting abilities and the golden voice of Oliver, Landfall is truly a welcome addition to the melodic rock genre.
The new album delivers a solid band and the new songs are stronger, able to capture the best of each band member, melodic rock has never sounded better.
Landfall was originally formed by drummer Felipe Souzza and guitarist Marcelo Gelbcke, childhood friends who have been playing together since they were about 15 years old. Some years later, bassist Thiago Forbeci joined up with them and added new musical input and influences, at which point the band decided to go in a new direction.

KERRY KING Explains Decision To Perform Cover Of IRON MAIDEN's 'Killers'SLAYER guitarist Kerry King and his solo band paid tribute to former IRON MAIDEN singer Paul Di'Anno by playing a cover of the MAIDEN classic "Killers" during their recent shows in Australia, including their performances at the Good Things festival. Speaking to the "Everblack" podcast about his decision to include "Killers" in his band's setlist, Kerry said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): " [Australia] is the first place we played 'Killers'… And it's cool because even though my [debut solo] record's ['From Hell I Rise'] been out six, seven months, there's still a bunch of people that don't know it. A lot of people don't even know I have a record. So, when I made up this setlist, I'm, like, 'There's gonna be a ton of people that never heard 'Crucifixation' [a song from 'From Hell I Rise'], so why don't we give 'em something they know instead?' So that's how we decided to do 'Killers'. And when we do the headline [tour] in U.S. in January, we're gonna continue to play 'Killers' too."
Di'Anno, whose real name was Paul Andrews, passed away on October 21 at his home in Salisbury at the age of 66.
An official statement shared to Di'Anno's Facebook page on November 11 with permission from the late musician's family revealed that his cause of death was caused by a "tear in the sac around the heart."
Earlier this year, King was asked by Riff X's "Metal XS" if he had heard MAIDEN frontman Bruce Dickinson's latest solo album, "The Mandrake Project". He responded: "[I] haven't heard Bruce's new album, but I have a friend who told me it's better than MAIDEN. [It] wouldn't surprise me. Nothing against MAIDEN, but their songs have gotten so long, man, I just can't be bothered with it. And my attention span isn't that much."
Kerry was seemingly referencing MAIDEN's latest two double-albums, 2015's "The Book Of Souls" and 2021's "Senjutsu", the former of which contains the song "Empire Of The Clouds" clocking in at 18 minutes, and three songs on "Senjutsu" running for over 10 minutes.
A few months ago, King told American Musical Supply that he would possibly start including some cover songs in his band's set as the band's tour progressed. "Covers, it's in the mix," he said. "My spin on it is I want to — I wanna throw in a cover every show, once we get used to it and being out, and I wanna play stuff that people can't see or hear anymore, like say for instance, 'Ace Of Spades'. You're never gonna see MOTÖRHEAD again. So, I think that's cool to do. Or for instance, songs that bands don't play anymore, like 'Killers' from IRON MAIDEN. I don't think they're ever gonna play that again. I don't think METALLICA is ever gonna play 'Damage, Inc.' again. So I wanna do things that actually aren't just me having fun. I want it to be fun for the fans to where they see it, it's the only place they can see it."
"From Hell I Rise" was released in May via Reigning Phoenix Music. All material for the LP was written by the 60-year-old SLAYER guitarist. Helming the sessions at Henson Recording Studios in Los Angeles last year was producer Josh Wilbur, who has previously worked with KORN, LAMB OF GOD, AVENGED SEVENFOLD and BAD RELIGION, among others.
King's solo band also includes drummer Paul Bostaph (SLAYER) on drums, Kyle Sanders (HELLYEAH) on bass, Phil Demmel (formerly of MACHINE HEAD) on guitar and Mark Osegueda (DEATH ANGEL) on vocals.
King and his new band will hit the road for the 28-date North American headline tour in early 2025. With MUNICIPAL WASTE as special guest and ALIEN WEAPONRY supporting, the tour is set to launch in San Francisco on January 15, 2025, and wrap at House of Blues in Las Vegas on February 22.

GARY HOLT On SLAYER Reunion Shows: 'The Experience Was Magical'In a recent interview with Full Metal Jackie's nationally syndicated radio show, SLAYER guitarist Gary Holt reflected on the band's two reunion performances earlier this fall — on September 22 at the Riot Fest in Chicago, Illinois and on October 10 at the Aftershock festival in Sacramento, California. Asked how it felt to be back on stage with SLAYER again, Holt, who is also a longtime member of EXODUS, said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "Well, first off, the experience was magical. It was awesome. It was a surreal moment.
"SLAYER and the audience always have this rapport," he continued. "There's a certain electricity that comes off the crowd, and we feel it. And this time we were electrocuted by it. It was insane, the energy that you could feel before the show started.
"Losing the Louder Than Life show due to the hurricane, that was bunk, that was sad, and no more so than for the fans who flew from all over to see it," he added. "But it was sad for us, too, because we really, really enjoyed Riot Fest, and it was amazing. There was only three shows. Who wants to lose one of 'em?
"But I'm looking forward to doing some more of 'em… I think, if anything, the band will make spot appearances here and there. I don't see the band ever touring anymore, which is great for me because it allows me to put all my concentration into EXODUS and then go out and enjoy playing the SLAYER songs with my other family once in a while."
Asked if there is one SLAYER song that best represents is admiration for what late SLAYER guitarist Jeff Hanneman created with the band, Holt said: "That's really hard to pick one thing. There's so much greatness in the songs that he wrote. I'm just happy to be able to play them and keep his memory alive.
"Solo-wise, I just kind of usually did my own thing," Gary explained. "I tried to match him vibe for vibe, but trying to mimic Jeff's solo style, it's impossible for me. I'm sure there's some guys in some tribute bands that do it note for note, but it would have really been fake if I tried to like copy them. So, I did my own thing and no one ever complained about that in the band. Occasionally some fan might not like it.
"But if I had to pick a song, maybe 'South Of Heaven'; that's a pretty signature song of his," Holt added.
Gary previously talked about the SLAYER reunion shows this past October in an interview with Chuck Armstrong of Loudwire Nights. He said about being back on stage with SLAYER again: "[It was] surreal. It was awesome. We rehearsed really hard for it, like full production rehearsal. In the past, when I did rehearse — SLAYER rehearsed in this tiny little music studio room with little half stacks. This was cool 'cause I got to play with the entire rig — three amps, six cabs all on. I got to redesign the rig based on my EXODUS rig. So it was the exact same identical thing tone-wise, just three times as large, which was awesome.
"We were nervous," Holt admitted. "Tom [Araya, SLAYER bassist/vocalist] was nervous, and he sounded amazing. Sometimes you've just gotta forget about the time and how long it's been and just let muscle memory kick in and just do it. I mean, I only played one song I'd never played, and that was '213'. And 'Reborn' I'd only played, I think, once, so that was almost a new song — once or twice. Everything else was just refreshers."
Gary added: "I started working on the songs a long, long time ago, when the shows were first announced: 'All right, I'd better make sure I know how to play this shit still.' And I literally had to like dive into Internet tab on songs I'd played a hundred times. But then I'd [go], 'Man, I'm playing it wrong.' Then I just forget about it and just play, and then all right, my hands remember where the notes are.
"But it was spectacular," Holt said. "Losing the second show [at the Louder Than Life festival] due to the weather, the tail end of the hurricane, was a real, real bummer, especially for all the fans who flew in. I met people at the airport who flew in from England for it. And they had the best attitude about it. Obviously, it wasn't our fault. We tried everything we could. You can't control 50-mile-an-hour gusts. The crew had to evacuate, like, three times that afternoon. We never left the hotel.
"But it was amazing. It was surreal. It was like this moment. The crowd was just very happy. And we were happy, and everything was good. And hopefully we'll do some more."
At Riot Fest and Aftershock, SLAYER ran through a 20-song set that included opener "South Of Heaven", "Seasons In The Abyss", "Angel Of Death", "Hell Awaits", "Raining Blood" and the title track of SLAYER's final album, "Repentless".
SLAYER was also scheduled to play at the aforementioned Louder Than Life festival in Louisville, Kentucky on September 27, but that performance was canceled due to severe weather.
In a recent interview with Nikki Blakk of the San Francisco Bay Area radio station 107.7 The Bone, SLAYER drummer Paul Bostaph also reflected on the band's two reunion performances. Asked how he feels now that the gigs are behind him, Bostaph said: "How do I feel? Um, wow. That's a really good question. I'm kind of a bit drained. Sacramento was a lot of guests there, a lot of friends, not to mention the show. So it was a lot of energy just put out. But each one of the shows kind of felt that way because it was kind of overwhelming because I never thought it would happen again. So, yeah, it was a lot of relearning songs that you really thought you did know, but you hadn't played them for five years. So, I don't know — it was great. I feel like it was probably one of the best live experiences I had because the fans were really into it. They were hungry for it, and that kind of made it special."
On the topic of whether there will be more SLAYER shows in the future, Paul said: "We played our last one… If everybody's asking that question [about the possibility of more SLAYER gigs], I am too, but I don't have the answer to that question. So, yeah, Aftershock was the last one. And we all hope that there will be more."
He added: "It's fun to play SLAYER songs. So, hopefully that can happen in the future. But [as of right now], that was the last show."
Five years after SLAYER played the last concert of what was being billed as the band's farewell tour and just weeks after SLAYER guitarist Kerry King unveiled the details of his solo project, Kerry and his longtime bandmates announced that they would play at Aftershock, Riot Fest and Louder Than Life.
The lineup for SLAYER's comeback was the same as the one which last toured in 2019: King and Araya, along with Holt and Bostaph.
In September, Bostaph told the Los Angeles Times that he was surprised when the reunion dates were lined up. "I'm, like, 'You're kidding, right?' I really put that to bed," the drummer said. "When something like that ends, I'm not going to do that to myself: Gee, someday it'd be great to get back together again. Life is life and this is how it is, and I'm moving on to whatever the next thing is. I put that to bed and then all of a sudden the call comes."
In July, King told Metal Injection that he doesn't rule out more SLAYER shows in the future beyond the festival appearances this summer and fall. "I'm trying to be real and definitely say, hey, we're not gonna tour again," he explained. "And we're certainly not gonna record again, 'cause I have a means of doing that now with my band. [We're doing] three shows for now. And I say 'for now' because I know Europe's gonna come knocking, 'Hey, man, you guys played America. Come see us.' So it wouldn't surprise me if something like that happened, but it's certainly not on my books right now."
Earlier in July, Kerry told Guitar World magazine that he "was very surprised" when Araya agreed to play three SLAYER shows this year. "I made my comments [about SLAYER being finished] based on [Tom] not wanting to play anymore. As far as I was concerned, we were done and never going to play again. To be honest, I don't know what switched.
"We've been turning down offers to play shows for at least three years. So, one came up that, I guess, enticed Tom to the point where he wanted to roll the dice and try a couple. I don't know, but that's all it is."
Kerry added that he would be open to more SLAYER gigs in the future.
"There could be an instance where there's another one-off,” he said. "It just has to be the right offer at the right time, maybe someplace everybody loves to go. But touring, no, I don't see touring. But, you know, who's to say a one-off can't happen again?"
King previously told Total Guitar magazine about SLAYER's reunion shows: "It caught me off guard too. Do I wish the timing was different? Absolutely, but that's completely out of my hands."
King went on to say that fans shouldn't get their hopes up about a full-scale SLAYER reunion.
"Everyone thinks SLAYER are getting back together, but that couldn't be further from the truth," he explained. "We've been turning down gigs ever since we stopped. This one came and I thought, 'If we're ever going to do one, this could be cool because it's the five-year anniversary of our final tour.'
"We're not going to record anymore," he added. "That final tour was definitely our final tour. This is just a reason to have some fun the guys, play a few shows and then jump back in the coffin…"
In June, King was asked by Jonathan Clarke, host of "Out Of The Box" on Q104.3, New York's classic rock station, about how SLAYER's reunion shows came about. He responded: "I'll put it in the perspective everybody can understand. We've been turning down offers since beginning of 2020, pandemic and all. And then it started getting near the five-year anniversary of us stopping playing, so I'm, like, 'You know what? This is a three-show package. I think it would be fun to do.' It's kind of a five-year anniversary of our last tour. We're never gonna tour again — it ain't gonna happen. We're never gonna record again; that's not gonna happen either. But to do commemorative shows, I think that's kind of fun. I don't have to be married to it for a long time. Kids don't have to worry about it coming around on tour because we said we wouldn't. There's not a whole lot of weird diabolical shit going on here. I think people have just gotta say, 'Hey, it's anniversary celebration shows.' That's gonna be the end of it."
Days after SLAYER's reunion was announced, Tom Araya's wife wrote on social media that she "harassed him for over a year" before he "agreed finally" to play more shows with the band. "We shared that news with SLAYER's awesome managers and they did the rest!" she explained. "So yes without Tom it wouldn't have happened.. without me BUGGING HIM it wouldn't have happened."
Kerry's debut solo album, "From Hell I Rise", arrived on May 17 via Reigning Phoenix Music. All material for the LP was written by King, who was accompanied during the recording sessions by Bostaph and the rest of Kerry's solo band, consisting of guitarist Phil Demmel, bassist Kyle Sanders and singer Mark Osegueda. 2

MAYHEM's NECROBUTCHER Is 'Not That Surprised' That The Band Is Still Together After 40 YearsBassist Jørn "Necrobutcher" Stubberud of Norwegian black metallers MAYHEM spoke to Dave Rumbler of Metal-Roos about the band's upcoming 40th-anniversary tour of Australia, which is scheduled to kick off on January 9 in Brisbane. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "Actually, the anniversary year wasn't long enough. So, we are actually on our 41 year when we come Down Under in January. But there was no time to squeeze [the Australian leg of the tour] in [during 2024], unfortunately."
He continued: "We didn't celebrate our 10th-year anniversary because we had some problems in '94, or [were] still recovering. But we had the 20-year anniversary, and then I think we even had 25-year anniversary, 'cause we thought it was a hilariously huge achievement in the sense [of] keeping a band like this together. And then suddenly we were 30 year, and then suddenly now we are 40."
Asked if he thought, when MAYHEM was first formed in 1984, that the band would still be around 40 years later, Stubberud replied: "Well, actually, the [answer] to that is probably yes, because… I get [that] question a lot. For example, in different circumstances, the question is, 'You didn't think this would happen when you were 16 years old and started this band?' But that's exactly what was going on. I had such faith in the project, and I thought that, 'This is it. We're gonna make it.' And we did. We had to believe. We thought it was possible, and we always thought so. And that's why we survived, too, because the first thing you have to do is to have faith in yourself. That's rule number one. So, no, I'm not that surprised, but I'm surprised how fast life went by. And now I'm 56 years old, and I started when I was 16, so that's a whole lifetime, basically. I would have gotten a gold watch fucking 15 years ago if I was working for the community, or the 25-year-old gold watch, or something like that. I actually thought to myself that actually I was gonna buy myself a watch. But, as you can see, I don't wear any watches."
Elaborating on the reasons MAYHEM is still around four decades after the band's formation, Stubberud said: "We are always putting a lot of pressure on ourselves to do better. We're perfectionists, and we're never happy because we're struggling to achieve the best we can do. So let's say we have a concert and somebody makes a little mistake. Nobody in the audience or anybody notices it even, but we are pissed off like a half a year afterwards, like, 'Everything was perfect and then that happened. Fuck!' So, we're still there, and I think that's also one of the reasons why… some of the things you have to have in the mix to make it through all these years."
Addressing MAYHEM's stage show for the 40th-anniversary tour, Stubberud said: "This time around, the 40-year anniversary, what are we gonna do now that we haven't done before? We have to do more. And the only thing, the idea that that stood out was that we had kind of present our whole career into one concert. We did all the concepts in the past. We did 'De Mysteriis [Dom Sathanas]', we played that in full, we had the 'Daemon' tour, we had tours that linked up to albums, with the different designs and stage props and shit. And then, to present the whole thing, we hired some people to help us make a video behind the whole thing. And it turned out to be around a two-, two-and-a-half-hour thing. So we have a video that's linked up to this. It's kind of telling the story in pictures as we're playing, to [give] it a little bit more [of], let's say, an atmosphere, to try to bring people back to when it happened."
In a separate interview with the "Everblack" podcast, Stubberud was asked if fans can expect new music from MAYHEM in 2025. He responded: "Yes, you can. Teloch [MAYHEM guitarist Morten Bergeton Iversen] and Charles [Edward Alexander Hedger, MAYHEM guitarist] have presented some demos — both of them presented over 10 songs or 10 skeletons — so [they have] presented almost 20 songs. And I listened to everything, and some of it is really fucking good. So, after the Australian tour, I guess — no, some of us [are] gonna go on some tours with some other bands. But in March [2025], I think, we're gonna get together and start to hammer out this thing. By 2025 we should have been able to enter the studio. And then, hopefully, it would be cool to have it out in 2025. That would be a goal, but we'll see. But definitely 2026. And then, of course, we'll be heading out [on] a new world tour to promote it, I guess."
MAYHEM's sixth studio album, "Daemon", came out in October 2019 via Century Media. A live album, "Daemonic Rites", arrived in September 2023.
In early November, MAYHEM canceled its previously announced North American 40th-anniversary tour "due to a member of the band having a medical emergency that requires immediate surgery." According to the group, the procedure "will result in a prolonged recovery period."
The North American dates were scheduled to kick off on November 12 in Montreal, with stops in Toronto; Queens, New York; Chicago; and Los Angeles before and wrapping up November 23 in Denver.
MAYHEM launched a short European tour on December 4 in Paris, France.
When MAYHEM's North American tour was first announced in August, the band said that its 40th-anniversary show would be "a once-in-a-lifetime experience for fans, featuring a setlist that spans their illustrious career, from their groundbreaking debut album, 'Deathcrush', to present day."
Formed in 1984 in Norway, MAYHEM has been at the forefront of the black metal scene, known for their controversial history, groundbreaking music, and unparalleled live performances. LORD OF THE LOST Vocalist CHRIS HARMS To Release First Solo Album In January; "I Love You" Single And Music Video Out NowChris Harms not only stands out as a musical chameleon with his band Lord Of The Lost, but also with his very first solo album, 1980. With Lord Of The Lost, Chris Harms just experienced the most successful four years in the band's history, including participation in the Eurovision Song Contest and tours with Iron Maiden, as well as one #1 and two #2 albums on the Official German Album Charts. But a break is out of the question. The idea of a solo album has been maturing in his mind for a long time and has now taken its final form.
Chris Harms describes 1980: “If I were forced to categorize this album and label it, it would probably say ‘a strange but successful mix of Depeche Mode, Modern Talking and Sandra with Chris Harms' voice, but with less perm and mullet’.”
Songs such as the hit “She Called Me Diaval” and “Lunamor” exude a pleasant lightness, while “Past Pain” and “May This Be Your Last Battlefield” strike a reflective note. To celebrate the fifteenth anniversary of the original release of their sixth album, The Underfall Yard, Big Big Train have today released a new Winter Version of the song "Brew & Burgh". "Brew & Burgh" was first released as part of the remixed and expanded reissue of The Underfall Yard in spring 2021 and is regarded by the band as forming an important part of the definitive version of the album.

“The Underfall Yard was a pivotal album for Big Big Train,” drummer Nick D’Virgilio comments. “It was our late, great friend David Longdon’s debut for the band and represented the start of an upwards curve, which apart from leading us to record a series of great albums, eventually resulted in us playing live from 2015 onwards.”
“'Brew & Burgh' has a universal message, but it’s also a very personal song and has become even more poignant following the loss of David in late 2021,” adds bassist Gregory Spawton. “As a band we’ve been through a lot over the last few years and we are very grateful that our audience has been there for us. In this season of goodwill we thought that releasing what we’ve called a ‘Winter Version’ of the song with a new arrangement would be a nice way to thank our fans for their steadfast support.”
“I love the original version of 'Brew & Burgh',” says lead vocalist Alberto Bravin. “We didn’t want to simply re-record the song but instead decided to re-arrange it to suit the winter season. Oskar Holldorff played a lovely piano part, Clare Lindley supplied some beautiful violin and Paul Mitchell, who toured with us in the autumn, makes his recording debut with us playing trumpet on this song.”

How Close Did C.C. DEVILLE Come To Joining STRYPER? MICHAEL SWEET RespondsIn a new interview with Guitar By Emily, Michael Sweet confirmed that C.C. DeVille auditioned for STRYPER before joining POISON and achieving multi-platinum success as the latter band's guitarist. Regarding how he met DeVille in the first place, Sweet said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "I was standing on Sunset Boulevard in front of Gazzarri's [famed nightclub in West Hollywood], and this guy comes up, and we ran into each other. And I'm, like, 'Oh, this guy's cool. He's got a cool look and he's fun.' And I consider myself to maybe be fun as well; I don't know. But we hit it off, and we started talking, started laughing. And he was out from New York, looking for a better way, trying to break, like every other musician at that time. A lot of people were moving to L.A. L.A. was the hot spot — not Nashville, Austin. It was L.A. That's where you wanted to be if you wanted to make it. And C.C. came out, and we became friends."
The STRYPER frontman continued: "We eventually invited him down to the garage in La Mirada, about 45 minutes from Hollywood, and we jammed. And we were actually considering, from both sides, [about him joining STRYPER] and the thing that made him make the decision to say no was the whole yellow-and-black [image of STRYPER]. That's what I recall. Yeah, that's what I recall. And you might get a different version from him if you interview him, but I remember him specifically saying, 'Yeah, I'm not into the yellow and black. I'm more into pink and purple.' He actually said that. That's what kept us from moving forward. And we also jammed and auditioned and talked to Doug Aldrich [DIO, WHITESNAKE, THE DEAD DAISIES] about joining the band as well."
Sweet previously discussed the possibility of DeVille joining STRYPER in a 2014 interview with The Weeklings. Asked how STRYPER would have worked "theologically" with C.C. in the band, Michael replied: "I don't know. C.C. believes in God. Spiritually and philosophically, I think it could've worked. But musically? I'm just not sure. What would POISON have sounded like with Oz [Fox, STRYPER guitarist] on lead guitar? There was a real tight network of musicians around the Strip in that day, so there are all sorts of mutations that could have taken place. But C.C. wasn't really into the yellow and black."
Sweet also reflected on DeVille's STRYPER audition in his 2014 book "Honestly - My Life & Stryper Revealed". He wrote: "During the audition process to find an additional guitar player, we auditioned a new guy in town from New York by the name of Bruce Johannesson, otherwise known as C.C. DeVille. I had met C.C. previously and we hit it off. He seemed like a great guy and we got along well. Our band had been playing out as a trio for a quite a while, with me handling all the guitars, but we were actively seeking a fourth member. C.C. came in to our rehearsal studio and we went through a typical audition process playing some covers and some of our tunes, just to get a feel on how we'd gel together. Musically, it felt great, but at the end of the night, he inquired about the yellow and black. Rob [STRYPER drummer and Michael's brother Robert Sweet] was adamant about keeping the yellow and black, so when C.C. suggested he wasn't really into the color scheme, I could sense Rob's defense mechanism kick in. The yellow and black was Rob's baby and he was convinced we should stick with it. So no matter how good C.C. was, if he couldn't wear the colors, he wasn't going to be in the band. C.C. politely declined the opportunity, stating he really wasn't digging the yello-and-black thing and that he was more of a pink-and-purple kind of guy. And our auditions with others continued. But to think, had our color scheme been pink and purple, C.C. DeVille just might have become a member of our band."
He added: "Just another one of God's miracles, both for him and for us, I'm sure. I can't imagine POISON without C.C., and I'm certain he is thankful as well for the path he took."
Several years ago, Robert Sweet explained the inspiration for STRYPER's yellow-and-black look, saying: "I wanted STRYPER to stand for something and be remembered. You may either love or hate the yellow and black, but that was my thing. Music is about music and should always be first, but I was also a very visual guy. Sometimes people would say they didn't know our names, but they knew we were the guys with the yellow-and-black stripes. I never took it as an insult and always smiled because it worked." 1

In a recent interview with Heavy Consequence, Rob Halford spoke about JUDAS PRIEST's plans celebrate the 35th anniversary of its classic album "Painkiller" extensively live with the "Shield Of Pain" tour in 2025. This "rare" and "unique set" will include "beloved classics" and "will be defending the metal faith in a truly memorable experience throughout Europe" next summer, according to a social media post from PRIEST.
Halford said: "It's still in the works, but we're gonna go and show ['Painkiller'] off. Not in its entirety. I haven't figured out yet whether we're just gonna do a clump of 'Painkiller' songs — this is the 'Painkiller' section — or we're gonna go, a 'Painkiller' song, a couple of others, a 'Painkiller' song, a couple of others. It's all in theory in my mind at the moment, but, however, I think it's gonna be a real thrill and a treat. And, again, a once-in-a-lifetime thing for the band. You'll only see the show once. You'll only see the 'Shield Of Pain' show once. So, we hope our fans will be on the rail and banging their heads to it."
The singer also reflected on PRIEST's mindset while going into the recording process for "Painkiller". He said: "The importance was we had to really go into a huddle and say, 'We really need to show off what this band's true heart and soul and spirit is about.' And I'm using that in reference to some of the previous albums and some of the previous songs. Our attitude was, 'We're gonna make the hardest, heaviest, strongest, most energized metal album we've ever done,' and we did that — we achieved it. It's full-on. It only pulls back a little bit for 'A Touch Of Evil'. The rest of it is just non-stop, non-stop, non-stop. We did it in Miraval Studios in the south of France. It was very isolated, so, unlike Ibiza [where 'Screaming For Vengeance' and 'Defenders Of The Faith', among others, were recorded], where we were going into the clubs every night, it was very, very isolated, so we really got into the work in a very, very strong way with no interference. And so the exercise of achieving all of the components to make that album as strong as we wanted it to be was a success. And, again, a band will tell you we've done everything we can. Let's see what happens. The world embraced that album."
He continued: "It's a beloved, revered metal album. A lot of our friends in different bands will say, 'If you wanna hear what a metal album is all about, put on 'Painkiller'.' And that's pretty cool. But our fans, as well, recognize that of all of the 19 albums that this band has ever made, 'Painkiller''s still very heavily under the spotlight. And here we are, 35 years next year."
PRIEST's 12th album, "Painkiller" was recorded at Miraval Studios in Brignoles, France, and was mixed at Wisseloord Studios in Hilversum, the Netherlands. It was the first LP to feature drummer Scott Travis following the departure of Dave Holland.
In a 2023 interview with "The Jeremy White Show", founding JUDAS PRIEST guitarist Kenneth "K.K." Downing spoke about how the addition of then-new drummer Travis affected PRIEST's sound and songwriting on "Painkiller". He said: "I think with the addition of Scott, because we knew his capabilities from his former band, RACER X, which were a great band… After so many years, having Scott in the band with those double kicks again, it just opened doors for myself and Glenn [Tipton, PRIEST guitarist] to write rhythmically and musically. And we knew that Scott could play anything that we could — as fast as we could play on guitar, we knew he could match us on the kit, which helped a lot, really, because it meant we could expand writing after so many years, really, in respect of the faster side of metal, if you like."

Ex-JOURNEY Singer STEVE PERRY Releases Official Yule Log Video For 'The Season 3' AlbumOne of the most iconic voices in rock and roll history, Steve Perry has released the official yule log video for "The Season 3", which came out on November 8 via Dark Horse Records. The album expands on the former JOURNEY singer's exquisitely curated 2021 holiday album "The Season", which revealed him as a flawless interpreter of the classic Christmas songbook. Built around a tape left to him after his estranged father's passing, the song, originally recorded by Ray as a reflection on his shortcomings, offers poignant closure as Perry confronts generational trauma and embraces forgiveness.
Talking about singing with his father on the duet of "Call Me Irresponsible", Steve Perry says: "My father, Ray Perry, was a singer and when I was a child he would sing to me at bedtime. I recently found a karaoke cassette of my dad singing that he sent me back in 1993 for Christmas. The one song that touched me the most was 'Call Me Irresponsible'. His voice was lovely, but the karaoke track was not.
"Using technology, we pulled his voice off the cassette and recorded beautiful music around him. Once that was done, an unfulfilled dream of singing with my father was now possible. You see, mom and dad divorced when I was 7, and dad and I never saw much of each other after that. Singing with my father after all these years was a very emotional experience for me. His voice was just as I remembered it as a child.
"At the end of his cassette, dad says, 'Merry Christmas, God Love Ya.' To hear him speak again brought tears to my eyes."
"The Season 3" marks Perry's first release on Dark Horse Records. He joins the highly curated home of legends on the label founded by George Harrison in 1974, alongside labelmates Joe Strummer, Yusuf / Cat Stevens, Billy Idol, Nina Simone, and more.
On signing to Dark Horse Records, Perry says: "I am so pleased to announce that I have just signed with George Harrison's label, Dark Horse Records. I've so much music in me that has yet to be heard. To be able to work with a team of people who support and respect my creative expressions, is a dream come true."
On "The Season 3", Perry says, "I've always loved the magic in holiday songs. When I was a child, I would hear them on the radio in my grandmother's kitchen while she was cooking. Today when I hear those songs, they take me back to so many wonderful memories."
He continues: "The magic of music is a very emotional gift. The idea of me recording a holiday record started many years ago and now has grown into my latest collection, 'The Season 3'. I have added six new tracks to this latest compilation, which now totals 16. I hope this record brings you precious memories too.

"The Season 3" is co-produced by Perry and engineer Thom Flowers with an immaculately arranged and richly nuanced sound. Mainly recorded at Perry's home studio, "The Season" series came to life in collaboration with drummer Vinnie Colaiuta (Sting, Joni Mitchell, Frank Zappa) and Dallas Kruse (a multi-instrumentalist who also worked with Perry on his acclaimed 2018 album "Traces"). While most of "The Season 3" encompasses an understated sonic palette — piano, strings, upright bass — each track leaves an indelible impact thanks to the soulful sincerity of Perry's vocal work. For both artist and audience alike, "The Season 3" ultimately serves as a form of emotional time travel, a direct conduit for the kind of memories that sustain the spirit and restore a sense of joyous serenity.
