BLIND ILLUSION - Bay Area Legends Feat. Former DEATH ANGEL, HEATHEN Members To Release Wrath Of The Gods Album In OctoberBay Area thrash metal legends, Blind Illusion, return after 34 years with a follow-up to The Sane Asylum, featuring Doug Piercy (ex-Heathen) and Andy Galeon (ex-Death Angel). The new album, Wrath Of The Gods, will be available on October 7 via Hammerheart Records.
Thrash as a primitive, earthy genre has given us many greats: Metallica, Slayer, Exodus, Death Angel, Heathen and the like. But the more calculated, technical, and ultimately colorful inventors of progressive thrash, a genre that blossomed handsomely after Watchtower’s debut in 1985, are what truly push the limits of thrash and test its creative bandwidth. Blind Illusion on their new album, Wrath Of The Gods, achieve this to a degree that has seldom been approached, let alone passed, in the rest of thrash history, just as they did 34 years ago on The Sane Asylum.
What is most impressive and revealing about this album, however, is not the technical ability of the musicians involved (although there is nothing wrong with their ability). It’s the pure brilliance that shapes every song, and the demonstration of how focusing on the art of songwriting will work wonders for a band. “Straight As The Crowbar Flies” introduces us first to the astral energy this album exudes, with catchy riffing and Mark Biedermann’s raspy, growling vocals. The screeching guitar solos and the abrupt rhythm changes keep the song fresh, but the band’s incorporation of technical Thrash elements crossed with extremely catchy riffing and drum arrangements proves to be the strong attributes of this album. There are numerous instances where the band finds its virtue in slowing down, letting a power chord ring out, and then letting the drums restart and propel the song once again. When the band decides to let their guard down and get cagey or manic with the rhythm, it’s done so with precision and doesn’t come at the expense of the song structure. When they get technical, the notes still vibrate with emotion, and the song doesn’t just become a vacuum for skills to be shown off. This message is most evident in every song, which all feature catchy guitar licks and great guitar riffs. What Blind Illusion does best on this new masterpiece is deliver cleverly-written and fun songs with catchy riffs. At the heart of Thrash, that’s really all you can ask for. The effects of how masterfully composed this album is has lend the production a unique ethos that makes it feel human. This is a group of guys who know what die-hard Thrash fans want to hear, and they know how to put it on their 2022 album “Wrath of the Gods”.

OZZY OSBOURNE's 'Patient Number 9' Is His Highest-Charting Solo Album In U.K.Ozzy Osbourne's "Patient Number 9" has landed at position No. 2 on the U.K. chart. This marks the legendary heavy metal singer's highest-charting U.K. album of his 42-year solo career.
"Patient Number 9" is the follow-up to 2020's "Ordinary Man", which entered the U.K. chart at No. 3.
Ozzy had previously scored four other Top 10 albums in the U.K.: 1980's "Blizzard Of Oz" (No. 7),1986's "The Ultimate Sin" (No. 8),2007's "Black Rain" (No. 8) and the aforementioned "Ordinary Man".
As a member of BLACK SABBATH, Ozzy had landed two No. 1 albums in the U.K.: 1970's "Paranoid" and 2013's "13".
Produced by Watt (who handled the same duties on 2020's "Ordinary Man") and released on Epic, the new LP marks Osbourne's 13th solo studio album.
The "Patient Number 9" title track was written by Ozzy, Watt, Robert Trujillo, Chad Smith and Ali Tamposi and features a riveting solo from legendary guitarist Jeff Beck. The accompanying music video marks the first collaboration from the project with artist and comic book creator Todd McFarlane. It is highlighted by McFarlane's signature illustrations interspersed with live Ozzy vignettes in the role of "Patient Number 9," which the revolutionary creative force in the world of comics and toys also filmed. In addition, this is the first-ever video to incorporate Ozzy's artwork: his hand-drawn demons were animated and can be seen during the Jeff Beck solo in the song.
Working with producer Watt for the second time, Ozzy welcomed a dynamic A-list supporting cast. The record boasts guitarists Beck, Eric Clapton, Mike McCready of PEARL JAM, and longstanding righthand man and six-string beast Zakk Wylde who plays on the majority of the tracks. For the bulk of the album, Chad Smith held down drums, while the late Taylor Hawkins of FOO FIGHTERS made an appearance. Old friend and one-time Ozzy bandmember Trujillo plays bass on most of the album's tracks, with Duff McKagan of GUNS N' ROSES and Chris Chaney of JANE'S ADDICTION supplying bass on a few songs. For the first time ever, BLACK SABBATH co-founder, guitarist and riff lord Tony Iommi appears on an Ozzy solo album.
"Patient Number 9" track listing:
01. Patient Number 9 (feat. Jeff Beck)
02. Immortal (feat. Mike McCready)
03. Parasite (feat. Zakk Wylde)
04. Mr. Darkness (feat. Zakk Wylde)
05. One Of Those Days (feat. Eric Clapton)

JOE LYNN TURNER Defends His 'Well-Deserved' Opinion Of RAINBOW's Latest Lineup, Says Band's Legacy 'Deserved Much Better'Former RAINBOW singer Joe Lynn Turner has defended his recent comments about Ritchie Blackmore's decision to go out and perform the band's classic material with a new group of musicians, saying "the RAINBOW legacy deserved much better treatment and respect than it received."
Blackmore stepped away from his Renaissance-inspired brand of music with BLACKMORE'S NIGHT for the first time in 2016 to perform a handful of shows with a brand-new lineup of the band he had formed after quitting DEEP PURPLE.
The current incarnation of RAINBOW includes singer Ronnie Romero, originally from Chile but now settled in Romania after living in Madrid, Spain for a number of years, as well as STRATOVARIUS keyboardist Jens Johansson, BLACKMORE'S NIGHT drummer David Keith, bassist Bob Nouveau (a.k.a. Robert "Bob" Curiano, ex-BLACKMORE'S NIGHT),and backing singers Candice Night and Lady Lynn.
Earlier in the month, , Turner — who fronted RAINBOW from 1980 until 1984 and was a member of PURPLE from 1989 until 1992 — told the "Rock Of Nations With Dave Kinchen And Shane McEachern" podcast that he had been in talks with Blackmore for at least a year about a renewed collaboration before he found out from a French newspaper that Ritchie was returning to rock music but excluding Joe from the project.
Asked if he thinks it would be great for RAINBOW to stage a reunion of all the surviving members for a special show or festival appearances, the singer said: "Well, man, I tried to do that already. Before Blackmore did the reunion — you know, that 'reunion'; call it what you want — we were in discussions about having everybody that was in RAINBOW together for an extravaganza. I mean, anybody who was still alive, and even paying tribute to [Ronnie James] Dio and everything, and trying to get 'em all in one place at one time, do a two-and-a-half-hour show at least, an authentic RAINBOW reunion. And it just got squashed down by his management and everything else. I mean, Live Nation showed up. I had a documentary, a 3D documentary, like the GUNS N' ROSES — same guy, Barry Summers, who did that; he's a good friend of mine — and it just fell on deaf ears. And that reunion became — I don't know what it was, really, because it really wasn't a reunion of anything. There was nobody in RAINBOW before who was there. It was BLACKMORE'S NIGHT, really, with a new singer. That was it."
He continued: "There's a lot of people that loved RAINBOW but they were too young to go to the concerts or they never saw them live, and this would have been the chance for those people — and I have a lot of people in my own family like this — that wanted to go see RAINBOW but really see RAINBOW. And that was not it. That was, in my opinion — I've already said it's a cheap imitation, a weak cheap imitation of… I don't know, man. I don't even know what to call it. It was a trainwreck for me. I think he damaged the legacy that way of RAINBOW. 'Cause RAINBOW was a fabulous band from start to finish."
This past Friday (September 16),Romero took to his Instagram to share a concert photo of the most recent RAINBOW lineup, and he included the following message: "There is so much power in our words when we are a 'public person', that we must be careful with what we say…
"I don't know and I don't care what's between The Main Man and some old ex members of the band, what happened or whatever. I'm just a normal guy who one day received the call from one of His idols to sing in the band He always dreamed of to sing… that's it. I'm pretty convinced I did my job well, (same for Jens, Bob and David, wonderful musicians) as all the feedback, appreciation and love I'm still getting in every place I go.
"I know as well you cannot be liked by everybody, but I will not tolerate to somebody to call my work 'cheap'… No Sir.
"Maybe for some guy is time to move on, as He did with other issues in His life, and to be careful to not to despise honest people who is here just working hard, as He does. At the end is all about Music, that's the only thing that counts and matter".
In response to Romero's post, Turner released the following statement via his social media earlier today (Sunday, September 18): "RAINBOW was an Iconic band. All the incarnations throughout the years were unique and exceptional, with one common thread that was running through it all - the highest standards of excellence, integrity and quality that Mr. Blackmore demanded from everyone and especially Himself. I learnt the most valuable lessons that I've carried forth in my own carrier and I will always be grateful to Ritchie for that. Mr. Blackmore set the bar very high for the level of creativity and performance for the whole Industry to follow, aspire and protect. He is a true Professional and Perfectionist.
"I've put blood, sweat and tears into my tenure with RAINBOW... And my opinion of the last 'incarnation' of RAINBOW is well deserved and has never changed. With or Without my personal participation, I believe that this 'reunion' could have and should have been treated with more concern and respect to the Iconic standards that Mr. Blackmore himself had established.
"A Legacy is historically about the significant achievements and accomplishments that should be preserved and treasured. For example, the re-release/re-recording of one of the biggest RAINBOW classics 'I Surrender' was a heartbreaking disappointment... And I think the reasons are more than apparent and obvious for everyone who's heard it...
"My recent interview statement never referenced any individual in particular, that was never my intention. And anyone who feels singled out is either paranoid and insecure about their own self-worth. As most of you have noticed recently, I have totally moved on and I am in the exact place and time that I want to be.
"So, I offer an important advice to those who are personally concerned with this issue - Try moving on yourself out of the shadows of those who perpetrated the originality and creativity necessary to achieve such status.
"Simply put, I believe the RAINBOW legacy deserved much better treatment and respect than it received and so did many loyal, supportive and dedicated fans who wished to see RAINBOW shine with it's brightest colors.
"This will be the last time I address this situation, as it is old, tired and completely irrelevant, being simply a product of the 'yellow press' looking for any dirt they can dig up or shine a spotlight on themselves for personal gain..."
Two and a half years ago, Turner spoke about his failed reunion with Blackmore, telling the "80's Glam Metalcast" that he had been "talking to [Ritchie's] so-called 'management,' 'cause it's his mother-in-law, for a good year. I've got all the e-mails to prove it. We were going back and forth talking about what the reunion of RAINBOW would be. And I wanted an authentic RAINBOW reunion; I wanted to get authentic players. I wanted the realRAINBOW — not just the RAINBOW I was in — but I wanted to bring up Doogie White and Graham Bonnet and I had Bob Daisley. Unfortunately, Jimmy Bain had passed and so on and so forth, but Don Airey… I wanted to make it sort of a RAINBOW extravaganza. There would be a core band, whether it was [Bobby] Rondinelli or [Chuck] Burgi on drums or Dave Rosenthal — I spoke to all of them. I was lining all this up."
He continued: "You may or may not know anything about the Blackmore camp, as we call it, but they're very guarded. And the mother-in-law — the story is I had a spy in that camp, and the story is that she was badmouthing me to Ritchie saying that I wanted to take full control of it all. And that couldn't be further from the truth. I was talking to Live Nation, which we had over a hundred and sixty dates promised, either headlining and/or special guests at all the big festivals. Our label, Universal, was gonna release not only an album but a four-song EP. I had Rock Fuel Media out of L.A., which was gonna do a 3D video of the whole thing. It was just gonna be gigantic and enormous — amazing. And she turned around and just dropped it like a hot potato — didn't even give me any reason why. And I found out in a newspaper called Le Parisien that I wasn't gonna be in the band. So I kind of laughed at it — simply because he said that I didn't know about it. But I said, 'Well, he's making a mistake, but he doesn't know about it.' And I know that's my opinion today."
Turner went on to criticize RAINBOW's current incarnation, saying "the RAINBOW [Ritchie] put together is nostalgic, but it is not RAINBOW. They never did an album, and all they do is these spot dates. And anybody who goes to see them, it's all over YouTube. And that's really all I've gotta say about it. If you ask me, he's cheating the public. And that wasn't my intention. So happily I go along. Ritchie is allowed to do whatever he wants to do, and so I am. And I don't need the hassle. So it's great."
According to Joe, had his idea for a RAINBOW reunion come to fruition, "it would have been unbelievable. And even people who haven't seen RAINBOW before — there's a lot of 'em that love the music and grew up on it — are still coming out and seeing RAINBOW, no matter what configuration he put together," he said. "If you look at 'Live Between The Eyes' or any of our live stuff compared to the stuff he's got on YouTube with this particular aggregation, there's no comparison. None. Our band rocked."
Joe sang on the RAINBOW album "Difficult To Cure", which featured the band's most successful U.K. single, "I Surrender".
During Turner's time with RAINBOW, the band had its first USA chart success and recorded songs that helped define the melodic rock genre.

OF ICE - Featuring Former ICED EARTH Members - Release New Single "Wake Up"Of Ice is an American thrash metal project created by Stephen Kern. His idea was to simply honor one of his favorite bands, Iced Earth. The music is original, but Stephen wanted to grab that similar sound, and also incorporate Ice in the project name. His vision was to gather Iced Earth members on it, shining the light on everything to do with Iced Earth.
Gene Adam (Iced Earth 1985 - 1991) is on vocals and Freddie Vidales (Iced Earth 2008 - 2012) is on bass. The lyrics to "Wake Up" were written by Gene. They are against the media, causing so much division in the world (they love their ratings / stirring up problems). The cover art was done by Jeremiah S. Morgan. His drawing shows Gene and Freddie trying to help a media watchin' brainwashed person from being controlled. Wake up!
"Wake Up" by Of Ice was released September 15th via Metalism Records.
"Wake Up" lineup:
Gene Adam — vocals
Freddie Vidales — bass
Stephen Kern — drums, rhythm guitar
Val Allen Wood — lead guitar
Matthew Trautwein — violin intro
Artist Jeremiah S. Morgan discusses creating the artwork for "Wake Up", which can be viewed in its entirety below.
"I had an amazing time drawing this artwork and designing the logo. Stephen and I had a lot of ideas. We explored themes from finding an ancient ruin in an arctic cavern, to Gene and Freddie being armed to the teeth blasting assault weapons at an Ice Demon. Stephen had a specific direction based on the song, and we went back and forth on creative ways to keep the subject matter realistic and believable, but also enhancing the presence of evil from the media and how it can take over your home.
I restarted the art several times, to get things like the elements and perspective correct. As a long time fan, I felt like I was creating an else-world Iced Earth single. I had to attempt to find the balance between my personal cartoon style and the standard that classic IE fans had grown to expect.
I took inspiration from the set of remastered albums that were drawn in ink by Danny Miki and digitally colored; the way I was introduced to them as a teenager. Therefore my art is drawn in india ink and colored in Photoshop. I didn’t really hear the song, but maybe a few riffs, before embarking on the art. So seeing the final product as a fan is just as much as a surprise to me as it is to all of you.
It's been a great pleasure and Stephen Kern is an amazing guy that I’m proud to call my friend. And don’t let what you see on your screens give you… freezing veins of ICE!"

FEARLESS Vocalist DAN VASC Covers RHAPSODY's "Dawn Of Victory" With Singer FABIO LIONE (Video)Daniel Vasconcelos, better known professionally and on YouTube as Dan Vasc, is a Brazilian metal singer and songwriter. He's a part of the band Fearless, with whom he's released one studio album, Chronicles of Ancient Wisdom, (2019), as well as one EP. On YouTube, he's known for doing metal covers of songs from several different genres. Below is his latest offering; a cover of Rhapsody's "Dawn Of Victory" featuring Rhapsody vocalist Fabio Lione.
Dan Vasc: "If you are a member of this actual heavy metal fellowship and you don't know who Fabio Lione and the band Rhapsody are, we need to rectify this immediately! Rhapsody is a big influence to my heavy metal since my teens and Lione's vocals shaped my own singing approach deeply. Having him participating on a video along with my friends from my band Fearless, who have been with me since the very start, is the closing of a circle."
"Dawn Of Victory" is taken from the album of the same name, released in 2000.
Lead vocals by Dan Vasc and Fabio Lione
Guitars by Gabriel Belozi
Bass by Davi Vasc
Drums by Gio Rezende

Austria's WATCH THEM FAIL Release New Single / Lyric Video "Salem"Watch Them Fail are a nasty hybrid of metal, rock, crossover, and industrial hailing from Austria. "Salem" is the second single taken from their upcoming album, Hybris, which will be released on October 21st, 2022 via Wormholedeath Records.
"Maybe the heaviest, but sure enough the most diversified song on the album, that gives the listeners no chance to take a breath from beginning to end“
Founded in 2016 in Graz/Austria, the four musicians of Watch Them Fail, have been consistently and unconsciously avoiding putting themselves into a specific music genre. The individual band members' influences are too different and too far spread out in order to be reduced to ONE musical formula. This is also reflected in their lyrics, written in English, German and Spanish.
The only constant in the music of Watch Them Fail is the catchiness of their songs, which manifests itself in either the listener's head and/or legs, where it settles for good. This brought Watch Them Fail onto stages in Austria and abroad as the first gig in the band‘s history ever, to open up for Prong and 2019 on the bill of Metal On The Hill Festival, together with bands like Lord Of The Lost, Alien Weaponry, Walls Of Jericho, HammerFall and many more. The first 3-song EP, Hybrid, was recorded in March 2018 and released on November 24, 2018, physically (7" vinyl and limited cassette tape) and as a download/stream. The first full-length album, Hybris, will be released in Autumn 2022.

ONWARD Featuring Guitarist TOBY KNAPP Release New Single "Silhouette"Guitarist Toby Knapp has issued statements regarding the reactivation of his ex-Century Media act, Onward.
"Onward have signed a two album deal with Moribund Records and the vinyl of the forthcoming album Of Epoch And Inferno will be issued by Alone Records. CD's/digital will be released October 28 and the LP's are coming in 2023. Attika vocalist, Robert Van War, joined Onward early in 2021.
“The reception of the new album has been very positive so far. Listeners should realize I can't just go back to 2002 and continue with that sound. It wouldn't be natural. I am still drawing inspiration from 80's heavy metal, this time it's the more aggressive speed metal as opposed to the traditional heavy metal sound. I chose to operate under the Onward moniker because there's plenty of music on this album that has that vibe. This isn't a thrash metal album; elements are certainly there, but lots of melody is present.
“If vocalist Michael Grant and bassist Chris Payette (R.I.P.) were here, they would be in this band. Original Onward drummer Jon Pereau isn't playing anymore, I'm left alone to rebuild the band from the ground up. This is something I want to do as our reemergence might get those early albums back in print and introduce them to a new audience. I think that's a way to preserve the ‘legacy’; to keep moving Onward.
“I'm tired of operating under different monikers for everything, this time I'm calling it what is. We will keep some fans, lose some fans, and pick up new listeners as well. Our recording budgets with Century Media were several thousand dollars. This album had no budget, just me in a room pushing primitive home recording gear to its limit. I'm very happy with the outcome and on the follow-up to Epoch we will have a budget. Just turn this album up loud!"
The track "Silhouette" has been released as a single from Of Epoch and Inferno". Check it out below.
In the interim, Toby has nearly finished his ninth solo album, Transmission to Purgatory, coming in 2023 on Moribund Records.
"I can't stop working" states the guitarist. "I want to improve on each album I release. I learn more about song writing and recording each time and I'm always thinking about music! It's such an insane obsession".
Moribund Records recently signed Onward to a two album deal and renewed Knapp's contract as a solo artist.

BUTCHER BABIES Have Completed Work On Their 'Best Album To Date'At last month's Bloodstock Open Air festival, BUTCHER BABIES vocalists Heidi Shepherd and Carla Harvey spoke to Oran O'Beirne of Bloodstock TV about the band's upcoming fourth studio album which was recently completed with producer Josh Schroeder (LORNA SHORE, KING 810) for a 2023 release.
Regarding the recording process, Carla said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "It was a really cool experience. We got to sit together for about six weeks in the middle of nowhere — a very, very small town in Michigan — and just create together. And we had an Airbnb with animal skulls all over the place. And we just sat there in the snow and created probably our best album to date. So it was a great bonding experience."
Heidi confirmed that a cover song that BUTCHER BABIES have been performing at some of their recent shows will be included on the band's new effort.
"We've been playing one of the songs on these [European] festivals," she said. "One of the songs that we've been playing on these festivals, it's called 'Best Friend' and it's a cover from the hip-hop artist Saweetie featuring Doja Cat. And for us, being best friends, we thought it would be the best way to do a cover — a hip-hop/metal cover — since we've been best friends for, man, nearly two decades."
When O'Beirne suggested that some BUTCHER BABIES fans might object to such a diverse combination of musical styles, Carla said: "We haven't changed at all, because some of our earliest songs were similar. We've always run the gamut throughout our music; we've never stayed with one style. Most people love about BUTCHER BABIES that we have a death metal song and a thrash metal song and then a poppy radio song, and whatever mood they're in, we've got a song for them."
Added Heidi: "What I love about being in a band like this and being around musicians that we all see eye to eye is that we can do different things; we're not pigeonholed to one certain sound. Sometimes we wanna get up and we wanna scream and we wanna be angry bitches, and then sometimes we wanna sing and we want people to hear what we feel from our hearts. And I think that that's important as an artist, to be able to do both."
Carla continued: "And judging by the audience reaction when we go from one very, very heavy song to one lighter song, they love it. They have literally the same energy for both kinds of music. They want it too. People want the freedom to be able to like different types of music."
According to Heidi, the new BUTCHER BABIES album will be released next year, "preceded by a bunch of singles." She added: "One thing that I'm very excited about, and I think we all are, is giving attention to our singles. One thing that I think we missed in the past is releasing an album and ignoring some of our very special songs that we've put our whole hearts and souls into, and they just become album tracks."
Carla concurred: "I think that with all of your favorite albums growing up, the song that you love is never the one that's on the radio or has the big video. And as a kid you're, like, 'Well, if I could do the video for that song, it would be just like this.' So we like to be able to give power to those songs that normally wouldn't have the video."
BUTCHER BABIES' latest album, 2017's "Lilith", was produced by Steve Evetts (THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, SEPULTURA, SUICIDE SILENCE) and marked the band's recording debut with drummer Chase Brickenden, who replaced Chris Warner in 2016.
In July 2019, longtime BUTCHER BABIES bassist Jason Klein announced his departure from the band. He has since been replaced by Ricky Bonazza.
Last year, BUTCHER BABIES embarked on a headlining tour, "Butcher Babies Vs. Goliath", which saw the band performing its debut album, "Goliath" — released in 2013 via Century Media Records — in its entirety along with recent hit singles and new material.
Hailing from the City of Angels, BUTCHER BABIES have released two EPs and three albums to date, with "Lilith", debuting at #1 on iTunes Metal chart and #7 on iTunes Rock chart. The band kicked off 2021 by independently releasing a handful of newly energized singles produced and co-written by Matt Good (FROM FIRST TO LAST),including "Bottom Of A Bottle", "Sleeping With The Enemy", "Yorktown", "Last Dance" and "It's Killin' Time, Baby!" The latter was inspired by the DC Comics character Lobo, a heavy metal bounty hunter.

SCREAMER Issue Title Track From Upcoming Kingmaker AlbumIt’s the physically tangible intensity of their songs, their enthusiasm and their irrepressible drive that has always set Screamer apart from other acts. The Swedish band surrounding vocalist Andreas Wikström, benefits no end from the group’s amazing energy in combination with the musicians’ inspiring and diverse songwriting. This rewarding mix has already produced four studio albums and one live recording since 2011. Screamer’s latest offering, Kingmaker, is scheduled for release on January 13. A video for the title track is streaming below.
Like its predecessors, Kingmaker sparkles with a wealth of songs in the catchment area of classic heavy metal, the kind that has been an integral part of our lives since the early 1980s. At the same time, Screamer skins-man Henrik Petersson promises his band’s most mature and focused album yet, saying: “Kingmaker had us refine our signature style even more and bring out the essence of our strongest fortes.”
Screamer came together in Ljungby in 2009, a small town between Malmö and Gothenburg. Their previous studio albums, Adrenaline Distractions (2011), Phoenix (2013), Hell Machine (2017) and Highway of Heroes (2019), saw the five-piece deliver straightforward statements featuring dynamic riffs, tasteful twin guitars, punchy grooves and deeply melodic vocals. Screamer have played well over three hundred concerts, including acclaimed shows at renowned festivals such as Headbangers Open Air, Rock Hard Open Air, Summer Breeze, Bang Your Head and Muskelrock.
Testament to the quintet’s enthusiasm for playing live saw the light of day in January 2021: The songs on their Live Sacrifice live album were cut during their European tour between autumn 2019 and spring 2020. Kingmaker now seamlessly picks up where its predecessors left off.
New songs such as "Renegade", "Chasing the Rainbow" and "Hellfire" are typical Screamer numbers. Says Petersson: “In addition, they show what we are about this time, musically as well as in terms of content. Normally our lyrics are about life on tour, the joys of heavy metal and the life that goes with it.” However, the unusual, melancholy "The Traveler" is not your typical Screamer fare. “Kingmaker also features socio-critical approaches, for example on "Ashes and Fire", and fantasy influences on "Sounds of the Night", which you might refer to as little adventure stories,” adds vocalist Andreas Wikström.
Wikström is not only Screamer’s vocalist, but also the band’s main lyricist, with a sure instinct for fantastic choruses. Along with longstanding members, guitarist Dejan Rosić, described by his colleagues as a “riff machine and Bosnian Santana”, and bassist Fredrik Svensson Carlström (“a real animal on stage!”) there’s drummer Henrik Petersson, who not only started the band, but is also its manager and organizational backbone. Guitarist Jon Morheim has only recently joined the Screamer fold and is a true riff virtuoso whose great technical skill has been instrumental in propelling Screamer to the next musical level.
These five have combined their talent, experience and undiminished driving ambition to unleash Kingmaker, the strongest album of their career to date. Before the album sees daylight on January 13, the first lead single, "Kingmaker", is out now, followed by "Hellfire" on October 28, and "The Traveler" on December 9, all three of them supported by outstanding video clips.
So, preparations for the festivities are already under way to ensure a worthy coronation ceremony of the Screamer Kings!
Kingmaker will be released on January 13 via SPV/Steamhammer as CD DigiPak (incl. poster), LP version, CD/LP bundle with shirt (only at the Steamhammer shop). Pre-order here.

Watch CLUTCH Perform Entire New Album 'Sunrise On Slaughter Beach' In BaltimoreTo celebrate the release of their new album, "Sunrise On Slaughter Beach", acclaimed U.S. groove rockers CLUTCH livestreamed a very special performance from their Baltimore show on Saturday, September 17. The "Live At Hammerjacks" livestream featured a full setlist that included CLUTCH's new LP in its entirety.
Speaking about the release of "Sunrise On Slaughter Beach" and this very special livestream, CLUTCH frontman Neil Fallon said: "'Sunrise On Slaughter Beach' is a weird record. It was, by and large, a studio creation. It reminds me a lot of 'Jam Room' in that regard. Under normal circumstances we may not have entertained the idea of using vibraphones, theremin, or backing vocals (thank you, Deborah Bond and Frenchie Davis!). But as they say, necessity is the mother of weirdness.
"The YouTube stream of our September 17th performance at Hammerjacks is a way to say thank you for all the fans who have supported us over the past 31 years, the last two years in particular. Also, it's a good way to inspire us to get our shit together and learn the new material."
CLUTCH's thirteenth studio album, "Sunrise On Slaughter Beach" is a slamming summary of everything that makes the band great and another giant leap forward into career longevity. New bangers like "Red Alert (Boss Metal Zone)", "Nosferatu Madre", "Skeletons On Mars", "Jackhammer Our Names" and "Mercy Brown" take their rightful place alongside CLUTCH classics. "Sunrise On Slaughter Beach" is the natural culmination of what CLUTCH began as teenagers in the early '90s.
Recorded at the The Magpie Cage Recording Studio in Baltimore, Maryland, the album was produced and mixed by Grammy-nominated Tom Dalgety (GHOST, ROYAL BLOOD, PIXIES) with additional engineering by J Robbins (JAWBREAKER, AGAINST ME!, THE SWORD).
Track listing:
01. Red Alert (Boss Metal Zone)
02. Slaughter Beach
03. Mountain Of Bone
04. Nosferatu Madre
05. Mercy Brown
06. We Strive For Excellence
07. Skeletons On Mars
08. Three Golden Horns
09. Jackhammer Our Names
Drummer Jean-Paul Gaster initially thought album thirteen would be an opposite reaction to the polarization and uncertainty of the pandemic years. Perhaps something more upbeat, in the vein of 2013's "Earth Rocker". "The more the songs took shape, the less I saw that kind of an album," he said. "Something different took shape. The record we ended up with is, in some ways, the most different record we've made in a long time."
"Sunrise On Slaughter Beach" introduces some "firsts" into the CLUTCH canon: vibraphone (from Gaster),theremin (J. Robbins),and female backup vocals from singers Deborah Bond and Frenchie Davis. The album’s nine songs are a diverse ride, destined to please long-time fans and intrigue newcomers alike. It’s a new chapter in an ever-unfolding story which means as much to the fans as it does to the band.
CLUTCH shares more in common with THE GRATEFUL DEAD, RUSH and THE ALLMAN BROTHERS than their heavy riffs and heady twists-of-phrase might suggest. Because like those bands, the supporters who adore CLUTCH are there for the experience, community, and authentic connection. To love CLUTCH is to feel a sense of ownership, membership, and belonging.
Seneca Valley High School classmates Neil Fallon (vocals),Tim Sult (guitar),Dan Maines (bass),and Jean-Paul Gaster (drums) share an unshakeable musical and personal bond now three decades strong. Shaped by the same region which birthed BAD BRAINS, MINOR THREAT and RITES OF SPRING, CLUTCH crafts hyper-literate and libertine jams informed by hardcore fury and fuzzy, athletic, stoner rock.
Fallon likens CLUTCH's longevity to the story of The Three Little Pigs. "You can quickly build a house with sticks, but it falls apart. It takes a lot longer to build it out of stone. I feel like that's what we've done. This has been a marathon. It took a long time to build, but it's gonna be here for a long time." 1

Has FOREIGNER Talked About Calling It Quits? JEFF PILSON RespondsIn a new interview with the 96.9 The Eagle KKGL radio station, FOREIGNER's longtime bassist Jeff Pilson was asked if there has been any talk of the band calling it quits at some point in the not-too-distant future. He responded (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "To answer your question, I would say we haven't really… That's something we're not really talking about at this point. We're kind of firing on all cylinders, so let's just keep rocking. [Laughs] Our body parts seem to be holding together, so, yeah, let's keep playing."
Pilson also addressed the fact that guitarist Mick Jones is the only remaining original member of FOREIGNER who still regularly performs with the band.
"With FOREIGNER, the music is so strong that I think it really can be delivered by somebody that's not the original members," Jeff said.
"I mean, listen, we deliver a really strong set. We are fans — we love the music; we love doing the best job we possibly can — so even when it's not the original band, it's done with the authority and the belief that you need to deliver it. And I think that's true with a lot of bands. I mean, Arnel [Pineda], JOURNEY singer, is fabulous; he's a fabulous singer.
"I think when you're respecting the music, doing it in a way that people wanna hear it and doing it with that high-energy performance, you can't go wrong. And I think that bands like JOURNEY, like us, like STYX, REO [SPEEDWAGON], we're doing our best to deliver really quality music and people seem to be responding massively."
Lou Gramm was the voice on FOREIGNER's biggest hits, including "Feels Like The First Time" and "Cold As Ice" from the band's eponymous debut in 1977, and later songs like "Hot Blooded" and "I Want to Know What Love Is".
The 72-year-old Gramm left FOREIGNER for good in 2002 and has battled health issues in recent years, including the removal of a non-cancerous tumor. He told the Democrat & Chronicle in 2018 that he was planning to retire, but still reunited with FOREIGNER for several shows that year.
FOREIGNER replaced Gramm with Kelly Hansen in 2005. Jones, the only remaining original member of FOREIGNER, suffered from some health issues beginning in 2011, eventually resulting in heart surgery in 2012.
Responsible for some of rock and roll's most enduring anthems, including "Juke Box Hero", "Cold As Ice", "Hot Blooded", "Waiting For A Girl Like You", "Feels Like The First Time", "Urgent", "Head Games", "Say You Will", "Dirty White Boy", "Long, Long Way From Home" and the worldwide No. 1 hit "I Want To Know What Love Is", FOREIGNER still rocks the charts more than 40 years into the game with massive airplay and continued Billboard Top 200 album success.
FOREIGNER's current lineup consists of Jones, Pilson, Hansen, Michael Bluestein on keyboards; guitarist Bruce Watson; Chris Frazier on drums and guitarist Luis Maldonado. 1

Norwegian Gothic Metal Pioneers TRISTANIA Call It QuitsNorwegian gothic metal pioneers TRISTANIA have called it quits after more than a quarter century as a band.
Earlier today, TRISTANIA released the following statement via social media: "After 26 years on the international metal scene, the members of TRISTANIA have this week taken the heavy decision to call it a day. This means that future plans, including the scheduled Latin America Tour in December, have been cancelled.
"Struggling through some truly challenging years, like the rest of the world, we have been eager to finally look ahead, with the Latin America Tour being the next big thing for us.
"Last week came the news about a serious medical situation in near family within the band, which will make it impossible to pursue both short and long-term plans with the band. This came as a shock to us and we are truly sorry to share this.
"TRISTANIA is a band that has never made compromises in our art, and it has never been an option for us to present anything not 100 percent to our fans and followers. The timing of this could not have been worse, and it is especially sad for us not to be able to meet our friends in Latin America again. We have always had a special relationship to our Latin American fans.
"Our sincere apologies to everyone that will be affected by our decision.
"We want to thank everyone we have worked together with for almost three decades of writing music, recording, releasing and touring, but especially we would like to give an extra heartful thank you to Continental Concerts that has stood by us in thick and thin through a significant part of the band's career.
"Last, but not least, we would like to thank our loyal fans all over the world for amazing experiences through the years. Without you, we would not have had the inspiration to continue for so many years.
"It has been an eventful 26 years. Now, let us all cherish the memories."
Singer Mariangela Demurtas, who joined TRISTANIA in 2007, shared the band's statement and included the following message: "I am not coming with good news today unfortunately… I will spend some more words on this matter later.. excuse me for now, but this is not an easy post to make".
TRISTANIA's latest album, "Darkest White", was released in 2013. The LP was produced by Christer André Cederberg (ANATHEMA).
This past March, Mariangela told Terra Relicta that TRISTANIA was still an active band. "We talked about this; we're still talking about it," she said. "We have to combine the life of five or six different people, and sometimes it's not easy. We're all busy with our projects as well. So I don't know and I can't say anything. We are talking about coming back with something new. But yeah, I cannot promise anything, but don't worry, TRISTANIA is not dead."

DREAM THEATER's JOHN PETRUCCI Releases Animated Music Video For 'Temple Of Circadia' Featuring MIKE PORTNOYDREAM THEATER guitarist John Petrucci has released the official animated music video for his song "Temple Of Circadia". The track is taken from his second solo album, "Terminal Velocity", which was released in August 2020. The drums on the LP were laid down by former DREAM THEATER drummer Mike Portnoy, while Dave LaRue (DIXIE DREGS) played bass.
Petrucci discussed his musical reunion with Portnoy during a lengthy chat with the official DREAM THEATER fan club. He said: "Mike is playing drums on this [record], which is really awesome. Obviously, Dave LaRue played on my first solo album, 'Suspended Animation', and also I toured with [him] many times with 'G3', as in the past Mike Portnoy, we toured together with 'G3' as well — in fact, from the very first 'G3' back in 2001 or so. But, yeah, having Mike play drums on this was cool. It was a great experience."
Speaking about how his renewed collaboration with Portnoy came about, Petrucci said: "[Mike and I] been talking a bunch and he had sort of planted the seed in my ear. I was telling him about [my plans to record a new solo album], and he was, like, 'Well, if you need somebody, I'm available.' And it was, like, in my head, I'm, like, 'I'm gonna take you up on that.'
"I had written all the songs and we programmed drums," he continued. "And I played bass, and our engineer played bass, so we had these completed songs. And Mike came in, learned everything, of course, added his touches and taste. [He] did a tremendous, spectacular job. It was a lot of fun to kind of reunite musically and do that together. It took about six days to do. Again, he did a great job. The drums sound awesome. Dave recorded his stuff remotely, redid all the bass. And it's mixed by Andy Sneap — it's my first time working with Andy, and he did a tremendous job mixing it. He's actually currently in JUDAS PRIEST playing guitar after Glenn [Tipton] couldn't do it anymore. And he is an unbelievable mixer with an incredible résumé. He did mix 'Firepower', the latest JUDAS PRIEST, and a whole bunch of other stuff — KILLSWITCH [ENGAGE] and ARCH ENEMY and MACHINE HEAD, and it goes on. He's amazing. So, the album sounds great."
Regarding why he chose to record his second solo LP in 2020, Petrucci said: "Originally, before the whole pandemic hit, I had planned on working on my solo album, because DREAM THEATER had some touring coming up, but there were, like, chunks of free months in the year. So I was, like, 'If I don't start it now, I'm never gonna do this.' And then everything hit and closed down and everything got postponed, so I found myself with all this time on my hands. Basically, very shortly after I got home from that [last DREAM THEATER] tour, I started working on my solo album — two months straight, five days a week. I got it done in about three months."
Asked how much of the material on "Terminal Velocity" is brand new and how much of it is left over from previous songwriting session, Petrucci said: "There are nine songs on the album, and two of them I had played live on 'G3' previously and at my [guitar] camp. One of them is a really old song from the early '90s when I was doing guitar clinics. Actually, it's called 'Gemini', and there's a snippet of it on the 'Rock Discipline' video I did back in '95; there's a little bit of me playing that. So, for anybody that knows of that song, it's sort of an interesting little throwback to that, 'cause I never got a chance to really record it properly. There was one song I had written, I guess, around the same time as 'Happy Song' and 'Glassy-Eyed Zombies' that I played on 'G3', but I never did anything with it. Honestly, I kind of forgot I had it. It's called 'The Way Things Fall'. When I was looking through all my files and everything, I was, like, 'I forgot about this song,' and I had a full demo of it. I was, like, 'This is really cool.' So I was able to record that for real. And then that leaves the remaining five songs, which are all brand new. And I wrote those and recorded those, along with the other four, again, over about two months."
Petrucci will embark on his first headlining solo tour in October. He will perform material from "Terminal Velocity", as well as songs from his widely acclaimed debut release, "Suspended Animation". John will take his instrumental trio on the road performing live with Portnoy and LaRue in an onstage reunion that has been 12 years in the making.
Portnoy, who co-founded DREAM THEATER more than 35 years ago, abruptly quit the band in September 2010 while on tour with AVENGED SEVENFOLD. He has since been replaced by Mike Mangini (ANNIHILATOR, EXTREME, JAMES LABRIE, STEVE VAI).
Since the 2010 departure of Portnoy, Petrucci, along with keyboardist Jordan Rudess, has taken on much of the songwriting load for DREAM THEATER, including 2016's controversial double concept album, "The Astonishing", 2019's "Distance Over Time" and 2021's "A View From The Top Of The World".
