Fan-filmed video footage of ELLEFSON, the solo band of MEGADETH bassist David Ellefson, perorming cover versions of Post Malone's "Over Now" and TWISTED SISTER's "Tear It Loose" on November 19 at the Emerson Theater, Indianapolis, Indiana can be seen below. Joining Ellefson in the group are singer Thom Hazaert and guitarist Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal (formerly of GUNS N' ROSES), along with Dave Sharpe and Opus of DEAD BY WEDNESDAY.
ELLEFSON released its covers album, "No Cover", on November 20 via earMUSIC (Europe) and Ward Records (Japan). The effort was made available in conjunction with Ellefson's revived Combat Records, which issued the album in North America via Amped.
Produced by Ellefson and Hazaert, with additional production by guitarist Andy Martongelli and Matt LaPlant (NONPOINT, SKINDRED, LIL' JON), mixed by Alessio Garavello, and mastered by Maor Appelbaum (FAITH NO MORE), "No Cover" includes ELLEFSON-ized versions of 19 classic tracks from MOTÖRHEAD, W.A.S.P., DEF LEPPARD, CHEAP TRICK, QUEEN, JUDAS PRIEST, TWISTED SISTER, FASTWAY, FIGHT, DEAD KENNEDYS and more. Featuring cover art by Melody Myers (ALTITUDES AND ATTITUDE, ESCAPE THE FATE), an homage to the legendary DEF LEPPARD debut "On Through The Night", "No Cover" is the second release under the ELLEFSON banner, the follow-up to 2019's "Sleeping Giants", a double-disc compilation combining new tracks, with unreleased Ellefson solo and F5 material.

Ellefson said: "Before any of us started writing our own songs, we all began playing cover songs by our heroes during our formative years as musicians. So it's fun to go back in time and revisit those songs which helped us to become the artists we are today, especially when, ironically, many of those artists have now become peers and friends.
"During the process of recording some covers for B-sides and bonus tracks for the upcoming ELLEFSON solo LP, Thom and I just said, 'This is a blast. Let's just do a whole album of covers.' Literally, within two weeks, we had the songs recorded, and began calling our friends to join us, many of whom we had just performed with on the Megacruise back in October. From there, the album just fell into place."
He continued: "A lot of our buddies have been playing covers and quarantine jams on the Internet during the pandemic, so this is really just an extension of that, but we took it the next level and actually recorded a full studio album. We've been working remotely anyway, as we're all over the globe, so it was easy to incorporate some guests jumping in with some outstanding performances of their own. It's been a really fun nod to making great music with our friends, who are kick-ass players, and many legends in their own right, which is the whole reason we got into this in the first place."
Said Hazaert: "It's all songs and artists that really mutually influenced both myself and David, especially a lot of early 'metal' and harder classic rock. Some stuff I picked, some stuff he picked, but for the most part is was all artists that we both loved. What's funny, as there's a bit of an age gap, we were sometimes more influenced by different eras of the same bands. But it was really him saying, 'Let's do this song,' and me saying, 'Yes!!! And let's do this song.' And before we knew it, we had over 15 songs. And it's a lot of album tracks, deep cuts, early tracks, stuff people might not expect, which was what was so fun."
He added: "It was also great that we were able to work in a lot of nods to David's history, getting Chuck Behler to play with us, bringing in original MEGADETH guitarist Greg Handevidt to play on 'Love Me Like A Reptile', a song they used to play in cover bands together before they moved to L.A. (which we wrote about in 'More Life With Deth'), and Randy Burns is going to mix a track or two. As a singer, these are literally bands I've listened to, and covered all my life, and for me, getting to play with Eddie Ojeda, the TESLA guys, Charlie Benante, Jason McMaster, Mark Slaughter, etc, and sing these songs that mean so much to me. I mean, literally, the entire record is my bucket list of people I'd love to play with, and some of my favorite bands. So, it's truly an honor to put together something so fun, and really as effortless as this was. It truly is a love letter to rock n' roll, an homage to what made us, musically, who we are today."
2019 saw the release of Ellefson's "More Life With Deth" memoir, co-written with Hazaert, which led to the pair collaborating on the ELLEFSON compilation release "Sleeping Giants", released as a companion album to the book. Ellefson and Hazaert followed up the release of "Sleeping Giants" with an extensive U.S. and European tour, dubbed "More Live With Deth", with HATCHET guitarist Clayton Cagle, as well as FLOTSAM AND JETSAM's Steve Conley, stepping in on second guitar in the U.S., including several now-legendary shows featuring MEGADETH alumni Chuck Behler and Chris Poland.
The European "More Live With Deth" tour saw the permanent addition of guitarist Andy Martongelli and drummer Paolo Caridi into the recording lineup, as well as the return of Bumblefoot to the fold, and ELLEFSON was born. March 2020 brought the release of the single "Simple Truth", which was premiered on SiriusXM by Eddie Trunk, followed in May by the release of their re-imagined Post Malone cover "Over Now", both of which garnered national airplay.
ELLEFSON is set to tentatively release its debut full-length studio LP in 2021.

Danny Carey (TOOL), Les Claypool (PRIMUS), Claudio Sanchez (COHEED AND CAMBRIA), Bill Kelliher (MASTODON), Stephen Brodsky (MUTOID MAN, CAVE IN) and Jordan Olds (a.k.a. Gwarsenio Hall) have teamed up to record a quarantine cover version of RUSH's "Anthem" as part of "Two Minutes To Late Night"'s cover series. The video, which was edited by Drew Kaufman, can be seen below.
This past January, Carey spoke about late RUSH drummer Neil Peart's influence on his style backstage after he accepted TOOL's Grammy for "Best Metal Performance". He said: "Neil was so defined and he was such a precise composer in the way he played that that was a big influence on what I wanted to do with the band — to be in a band that did compositions, and it wasn't just jamming and stuff like that. So, luckily, I found the right bandmates to do that with."
Peart died on January 7 in Santa Monica, California after a three-year battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. The iconic RUSH drummer was 67 years old.
Shortly, after Peart's death was made public, COHEED AND CAMBRIA drummer Josh Eppard said in a statement: "Neil was a force. He helped shape so many drummers, young and old, his passing will be felt forever. This is a devastating loss: Our sincere condolences to the Peart family and his RUSH family."
MASTODON's Brann Dailor spoke about RUSH's influence on his playing in an interview with Modern Drummer. He said: "When I was four or five, my mom was in a cover band, and they practiced in our living room. The drummer was her boyfriend, and he was a huge Neil Peart freak. He tried to replicate Neil's drumset, and they did 'Tom Sawyer' and a number of popular RUSH tunes of the day. So that's where it started for me.
"When I became able to start figuring out other drummers' parts, when I was nine or ten, I would give it a shot, but I never come anywhere close. You know, I'd try 'YYZ' or something like that. There were always a couple kids who could play the beginning of it. We'd go over to their house — 'Hey, he knows 'YYZ'! Let's go over there and hear him play it!' [Laughs] You'd end up at some kid's bedroom where there was only a bed and a drumset. The 'YYZ' thing became sort of the standard. If you couldn't do the opening of that, then you weren't even worth mentioning.
"The most inspirational thing to me about Neil Peart is that he was more than 'just' a drummer. His drumming has always been absolutely phenomenal; he's a huge inspiration to millions of players around the world. But there's also something to be said for his lyric writing. Not many drummers contribute in that sense to their groups. There's this thing of, everyone has their place: The singer writes the lyrics, the guitarist writes the songs…. But Neil's an incredibly intelligent human being, and I think he's a good writer. I do the majority of the lyric writing for MASTODON, so knowing that Neil wrote RUSH's lyrics gave me the inspiration to step forward, like, 'I have something to say too.' Vocals can be very percussive in their delivery, especially with heavier music. But even with melodic music, they should weave another rhythm through the song. So it makes sense for a drummer to have some sort of input in that department."
The AV Club has had the honor of being blessed with the presence of your Lords and Masters GWAR, five times so far. Taking part in the AV Club's "Under Cover" series, the Scumdogs Of The Universe gave their take on songs including: KANSAS's "Carry On Wayward Son", Billy Ocean's "Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car", PET SHOP BOYS' "West End Girls", Cyndi Lauper's "She-Bop" and AC/DC's "If You Want Blood".
Since there is no band on Earth or anywhere else that can match the sheer awesomeness of GWAR's cover versions, the AV Club decided to task GWAR with their toughest challenge yet. An acoustic set. Yes, that's right, early during the quarantine, frontman The Berserker Blothar, guitarist Pustulus Maximus and guitarist Balsac The Jaws Of Death teamed up over Zoom from their Antarctic fortresses for an exclusive four-song acoustic set. Watch as they play stripped down versions of GWAR anthems "Fuck This Place", "I'll Be Your Monster", "Gonna Kill You" and "The Road Behind". Watch the epic performance below.
"I love the AV Club, and, as everyone knows, we are the undisputed heavyweight champions of their cover song contest, so it made sense for us to do this ridiculous acoustic project," says The Berserker Blothar. "I'm also hoping this helps bring ridicule on all the po-faced indy rockers groaning into their laptops and pretending to care. Look how easy it is to suck! Anybody can do it."
Pustulus Maximus adds: "Basically, I'm going to quit metal and play these unplugged wooden guitars from here on out. There was no better place to debut my new career choice of playing Antarctican folk music than the AV Club."

This question lead me to the term “New Wave Of British Heavy Metal.” A genre within a genre so powerful that its music still inspires to this day. From artists, skaters and even the Rainbow’s video poker machine so many have had their lives touched by Motörhead, Judas Priest and Iron Maiden. We chose these songs in our medley as a tribute to all the bands that are part of the infamous N.W.O.B.H.M. Our lineup for this one was something that I could only have dreamed of. Danko Jones: "'Overkill' by Mötorhead is probably the most perfect rock song ever written. Lyrically, it keeps with its title, ending thrice! It also contains the drumbeat that laid the foundation for an entire genre of music. 'Electric Eye' is the clarion call for one of the greatest Priest albums in their canon. 'Murders In The Rue Morgue' is one of the best songs of the Di’ Anno era. Although I have a million miles to go chasing the three legends who sang these songs, I am grateful to be given a chance. Being able to sing alongside these fine gentlemen was an honor."

With a strong passion for drums since the early childhood, Giulio Galati started taking drum lessons at the age of 10 with Armando Bertozzi, Stefano Rossini, Daniele Pomo (St. Louis College of Music), Lucrezio De Seta, Ettore Fioravanti (Santa Cecilia Conservatory of Music) and Giampaolo Rao.
The educational path led him through different music styles like jazz, Latin, fusion, and rock. Thanks to the influence of all these styles and the variety of music listened to, he evolved to metal drumming and to the use of the double pedal by developing a personal language that attempts to melt together everything he has been and continues to be exposed to.
Huge inspirations were and still are Dave Weckl, Vinnie Colaiuta, Kiko Freitas, Gavin Harrison, Mike Portnoy, George Kollias, Derek Roddy, and Thomas Haake.

Testament bassist Steve DiGiorgio, Megadeth drummer Dirk Verbeuren, Carcass guitarist Tom Draper, and Abysmal Dawn vocalist Charles Elliot came together online to cover “Living Dead” by Entombed.
“Living Dead” is the opening track to Entombed's second studio album, Clandestine, released in 1991 in Europe, and in 1992 in North America.
Earache Records has announced the signing of London-based rockers The Dust Coda to a worldwide deal.

"Limbo Man" is taken from The Dust Coda's new album and Earache debut, Mojo Skyline, available worldwide on March 26th, 2021.
The vivid album cover is extracted from the mind of artist Nick Dwyer, who is best known for his eye-catching designs for Beavertown Brewery's beloved brews such as Neck Oil and Gamma Ray. "I was trying to put across how these guys, who live and breathe destruction, dirt and chaos through their music might also spend their 'down time' inhaling weirdness from other not-so-obvious places," says Nick of the artwork. "They are on some sort of Natural Born Killers-esque trip, making a quick stop to watch a horror movie in the desert as the city disappears behind them. It's a peyote sandwich washed down with whiskey and desert dust."

"Freja has been listening to singing 'Let It Go' from the Disney movie, Frozen, for months. For fun and also because I miss performing for you, I decided to cover 'Let It Go' for all of you! It has been stuck in my head for months, so now it's your turn. We added a bit of a rock & metal sound to it and gave it a bit of our own twist! The music was performed by Oscar Fläring from The Fouxes."
Austin Ingerman, a solo artist as well the lead guitar player for the band New Years Day,
released a new single titled "Stampede" along with an accompanying video via Intercept Music.
"Stampede" is the second release from a collection of instrumental songs recorded over the last three years in four different studios around the country. This particular one was recorded at Clearwave Studio in Decatur, Alabama by producer / engineer Jeremy Stephens. It was mixed and mastered by Chris Collier (Whitesnake, Korn, Lynchmob, KXM).
Austin has toured with bands such as Halestorm, Godsmack, In This Moment, Falling In Reverse, and many more. He has played some of the world's most famous venues and festivals such as the Alexandra Palace in London, and Download Australia.
Austin started playing guitar at age 7 in his hometown of Gainesville, Florida. At 17 he got the opportunity to start playing out professionally in working cover bands. He toured the southeast playing the hottest clubs, festivals, private parties, and arenas for about six years before moving out west.
At age 22, he moved to Los Angeles, California to attend the world famous Musicians Institute. After moving to L.A., he was chosen to do a video with Boss to debut their brand new Katana amplifier line. Boss also hired him as a demo artist at NAMM 2017, 2018, and 2020. In December of 2017 he graduated from Musicians Institute with an AA in guitar performance, and received the award for "outstanding player of 2017." He is currently recording, and releasing new solo material with the help of drummer James Renshaw and producer / engineer Chris Collier.
Los Angeles modern groove metal unit Against The Grave have released their kickass new single / video “Bleeding You”.
On “Bleeding You”, Against The Grave deliver a blistering melodic assault of groove and thrash metal in the vein of Killswitch Engage, Pantera, and Slipknot. The song was mixed and mastered by Nate Northway (Feverteeth, Glenn Williams) and produced by Charlie Bellmore (Dee Snider, Jasta) while the riveting new music video for "Bleeding You" was produced by Morgan Gaw-Jefferson.

Austrian black metallers Theotoxin have revealed their new video "Philosopher". The track hails from the band's third album, Fragment : Erhabenheit, released this past September via AOP Records.
With the intention of creating supreme black metal art, Theotoxin ascended from the catacombs of Vienna, Austria in 2016. A quintet featuring members of Zombie Inc., Selbstentleibung, and now-labelmates Anomalie, this strong lineup of musicians has been well tested on tour all over Europe.
In 2017, Theotoxin self-released their debut album, Atramentvm, and kept writing new material, which led to the release of the successor Consilivm (Massacre Records) just a year later. Plenty of live appearances and a tour through Europe followed, further honing the band’s considerable chops. On those stages did the band deliver a throttling live show with deep atmosphere; the name Theotoxin began to spread.
Now aligned with longtime fans AOP Records, Theotoxin are eager to spread their black chants even further with their strongest album yet. Bearing the thematic title of Fragment : Erhabenheit, Theotoxin’s third album is both a consolidation of the band’s strengths as well as an extension of new ones. Much like their intense onstage performances, the violence is palpable – almost overwhelmingly so – and is doled out with the ease of experienced masters. Equally so, however, a chilling melodicism rises from this physicality which puts Fragment : Erhabenheit in rarefied territory: a paradoxically refreshing (re)iteration of second-wave black metal classicism. It’s as much mid ‘90s as it is Now, and Theotoxin simply make it look all too easy.

Former GUNS N' ROSES and current SIXX:A.M. guitarist DJ Ashba creatively combines multiple genres with EDM into one unique, explosive sound as he continues his adventurous journey into an exciting genre. Now, ASHBA brings holiday cheer to the dance floor with his new single "A Christmas Storm", the official music video for which can be seen below. An instrumental mashup of holiday classics such as "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen", "Carol Of The Bells", "Joy To The World" and "Hark The Herald Angels Sing", the song is mixed and mastered by three-time Grammy nominee Luca Pretolesi of Studio DMI (Steve Aoki, Diplo, Lil Jon).
Ashba told the Las Vegas Review-Journal about the musicial approach of his new effort: "I would go to a lot of EDM concerts, and their shows are so over the top and, you know, all these young kids just losing their minds, right? And the one thing that I've noticed is … it lacks guitar, you know, and I saw an opportunity, like five years ago, going, 'If I could take what I do and somehow inject it into this world.' A lot of kids are not being exposed to a lot of guitar in that world."
Previously released singles "Hypnotic" and "Let's Dance" will appear on ASHBA's first full-length effort. According to DJ, he will promote the LP by embarking on a tour on which he will be joined only by a VJ.
"The one thing I've noticed is the lack of performance. Now, that excludes a lot of the good ones, like Aoki — there's nobody like him, and Diplo, and Calvin Harris's brilliance is amazing," Ashba told Las Vegas Review-Journal. "But I'm but I'm talking about performances as far people bringing an instrument onstage."
Although Ashba initially started work on the project as a collaboration with Michael — under the band name PYROMANTIC — it has since evolved into an Ashba solo venture, with Michael announcing in 2018 that he was stepping away from the group.
