A video of DEEP PURPLE guitarist Steve Morse teaching you how to play the band's new single, "Man Alive", can be seen below. The track is taken from the band's upcoming album, "Whoosh!", which will be released on August 7 via earMUSIC.
"It's an abstract concept," frontman and lyricist Ian Gillan told Billboard about the song. "There was an apocalyptic quality to the (music of) 'Man Alive', and the idea developed lyrically from there — the scenario of this event that took place and everyone got killed, and you get this picture of 'all creatures great and small grazed on blood red soil, and grass that grows on city streets.' So it's a post-humanity scenario. And then all of a sudden something's washed up on the beach, and it turns out to be a man, and it's the only living man — but it's just a man, so...That's the end of humanity, because what use is one man? That was the idea. If it was a painting, you'd call it impressionistic."
DEEP PURPLE's 21st studio LP was once again helmed by Canadian producer Bob Ezrin (KISS, PINK FLOYD, ALICE COOPER), who also worked on the band's last two studio albums, 2017's "Infinite" and 2013's "Now What?!" Together they created the most versatile album in their collaboration. DEEP PURPLE "stretched out in all directions" without any limitation, letting their creativity go.
"DEEP PURPLE is putting the Deep back into Purple" was the half-joking motto in the studio after the first songs made it clear that Ezrin and PURPLE were on their path to creating an album pushing the boundaries of time, while voicing their resentment about the current situation of the world and addressing all generations.
"Whoosh!" will be available as limited CD+DVD mediabook (including the one-hour feature "Roger Glover And Bob Ezrin In Conversation" and, for the first time, the full live performance at Hellfest 2017 as video), 2LP+DVD edition, limited boxset and digital.

I always loved Jason Ward's bass playing so I asked him to jam on this one too! This song probably my all- time favorite by the band and I always loved playing this one - we changed the last chorus a little cause that's how Mike always "heard" the drum part too!! Calgary’s Osyron has a new album on the way, the explosive and thought-provoking Foundations releasing on July 10, 2020 via SAOL/The Orchard.
According to the band, Foundations is meant to be digested as an immersive exploration of Canadian history and identity, speaking on topics on the country's colonization to the mistreatment and recognition of Aboriginals to the country's participation in global warfare. Although it is not a conceptual release, it does bear a consistent theme across nearly the entirety of the record.
The band notes that this is the first album where each band member has contributed to the writing processes, which has resulted in a stronger, more refined production overall. Osyron shares their expectations for the album’s reception:
"We believe that the album will both surprise and challenge our current and new fans while still bringing back the big elements we are most known for (hooks, huge layered sections, melodies, and finger-twisting riffs, etc). We would like to think that our fans would accept this as not only the next iteration and evolution of us as a band but also as the artistic progression of the music.”
Today, Osyron brings their next video for the second single "The Ones Below", a track that stands alone from the themes of the album as a whole and pays tribute to the loss of a loved one or friend who has left our world. This is a track everyone can pay homage to the good times and not dwell on the bad. It's an upbeat song of hope that is inspired by the cheers of frosty mugs with a gentle touch down on the table soon followed. A salute to the ones below. Ohio-based melodic death metal three piece, Astralborne have unveiled a new video for the track "Centuries In Agony", taken from their recent album, Eternity's End.
Astralborne came into being when Jayson Cessna (drums) and Derik Smith (guitars) had wrapped up work on Hammer Horde's third album, and they found themselves with an excess of time and an abundance of creativity. However, they knew that their artistic leanings were not suitable for their Viking-themed band, and set out on the path that led to them forming Astralborne, with Paul Fuzinski (bass, vocals).
The trio wrote and arranged songs that comprised of both new and old material, revisiting and reimagining missives from their past lives, former bands and long forgotten periods of creativity. The resulting material was recorded in April of 2017 and forms an 11 track opus that fuses melodic death, black and thrash metal into a diverse aural assault. The outcome is an uncompromising tribute to melodeath's forefathers, with enough modern-day aggression to satisfy both old-school and new-school listeners alike.
Eschewing the historical and fantastical lyrics of their Viking themed work, Astralborne have found freedom to explore more personal and raw concepts on Eternity's End. By embracing realism and rooting themselves firmly in the present day, the tracks on the album explore the symbolism of death - plus various offshoots from that central theme. Be it divine punishment, the bubonic plague or the feeling of watching everything around you perish - Astralborne have explored the many facets of death in a myriad of ways.

UK rockers Bad Touch have released a video for their version of "I've Got The Music In Me", taken from their upcoming studio album, Kiss The Sky.
"I've Got The Music In Me" was originally done by The Kiki Dee Band, and cracked the Top 20 when it was released in 1974.
Speaking to Planet Rock about the track, Bad Touch vocalist Stevie Westwood commented, “That’s right we’ve got a cover on our album. What? It’s a banger! We took what Kiki Dee was going for, and we amped it up, threw it in the dirt and gave it a whole lot more sex. I challenge anyone to listen to our version of this great song and not be smiling from ear to ear. They’ll be screaming the chorus to the heavens by the end!”

"Not In This Lifetime" tour, which began four years ago, recently became the No. 3 highest-grossing tour in the history of Billboard Boxscore.
Launched in April 2016, "Not in This Lifetime" featured classic-lineup members Slash, Duff McKagan and singer Axl Rose backed by guitarist Richard Fortus, drummer Frank Ferrer, keyboardist Dizzy Reed and second keyboardist Melissa Reese.
GUNS kicked off its long-rumored and long-awaited reunion tour with a club show in Hollywood and appearances in Las Vegas and at California's Coachella festival.
As previously reported, GUNS N' ROSES' previously announced summer 2020 North American stadium tour has been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic which is sweeping the globe. The nearly two-month-long trek was scheduled to kick off on July 4 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and run through August 26 on Missoula, Montana.
The band is now reportedly working on a new studio album — the first under the GUNS banner since 2008's "Chinese Democracy" and the first to feature Rose, Slash and McKagan since 1993.

Fire From The Gods’ AJ Channer could not sit on the sidelines for one more day. When the world erupted in protest of the killing of George Floyd, he set out right away for Minneapolis. No better time than now to enact the philosophy supported by the lyrics of the songs on his band’s album, American Sun, which was recorded in early 2019, well before this call to action heard worldwide. The video for “Break The Cycle” (directed by Wombat Fire) is a story of support for people fighting to not have to fight anymore. It is the story of generations of struggle experienced by BIPOC all over the world. AJ interviews protestors on the ground, community leaders and other local artists to showcase the power of strength in community, and how we, as a country, can move forward. A written narrative on what he learned from his travels will be released on Friday.
THE PRETTY RECKLESS performed a quarantine acoustic version of "Death By Rock And Roll", the title track of the band's forthcoming album, during a June 18 iHeartRadio Facebook Live session. "In a lot of ways, this new album feels like a rebirth and our first single, 'Death by Rock And Roll', represents that salvation that my favorite music brings me," said vocalist Taylor Momsen. "Rock is freedom and this song is about living life the way you want, and now that belongs to everyone who listens."
Momsen recently confirmed in an interview that RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE guitarist Tom Morello guests on "Death By Rock And Roll". Morello appears on a track called "And So It Went".
Morello joins previously announced guests Kim Thayil and Matt Cameron from SOUNDGARDEN. The song with Cameron and Thayil, called "Only Love Can Save Me Now", was recorded at Seattle's legendary London Bridge Studios, where seminal LPs like PEARL JAM's "Ten" and SOUNDGARDEN's "Louder Than Love" were laid down.
"Death By Rock And Roll", the fourth studio album from THE PRETTY RECKLESS, will arrive in late 2020 or early 2021.
According to Momsen, "Death By Rock And Roll" "almost feels like the first record in the sense that we really threw everything that we had at it — we worked so hard on it," she said. "And I'm just excited for it to be out and have people come on this journey with me and see where it took us. I think it took us, in my opinion, to a new level. It's a new and improved PRETTY RECKLESS."
Since forming in 2009, THE PRETTY RECKLESS has quietly made history. The group's 2010 debut, "Light Me Up", ignited this rise. It was 2014's "Going To Hell", however, that set the whole genre ablaze. Dealing With Demons I (the band’s first release of new, original material since 2016’s Trust No One) represents the onset of a final purging of the demons that have long haunted Dez Fafara and DevilDriver’s music. Now is not the time bands should shy away from the obvious by trying to push the narrative through their art as if everything is alright with the world and ‘it’s metal video visual as usual time’, as it is clearly NOT that time.
"We as artists should speak up, inspire and change lives, or paint a picture - a time capsule if you will - by the narrative we push in uncertain times. This video is one such art piece as my band and thousands of others are forced into quarantine - cannot rehearse, take photos, or perform - to make a music video for the very people that have supported us for years. Dealing With Demons I showcases the supreme form of the band - Dez, guitarists Mike Spreitzer and Neal Tiemann, drummer Austin D’Amond and bassist Diego Ibarra. This isn’t just some of the most vicious DevilDriver material to date, but some of their most lethally memorable too. Co-produced by Steve Evetts and guitarist Mike Spreitzer, it’s a triumph for teamwork and tenacity.
Dez Fafara says about the band’s writing and recording process: “I said to the guys, ‘if we just met today, what kind of music would we make? How would we stand the test of time, stand apart from others and stand above the competition? Let’s not focus on the past sound. Instead let’s kick into the future together.’”
With new milestones like Dez Fafara’s eerie verses on “Wishing” and the frontman’s first co-authored lyric (“Nest Of Vipers” was written by Dez and Neal Tiemann), Dealing With Demons I ferociously delivers the goods while kicking open several new doors for DevilDriver to power through in the future. It’s a vital and violent clearing of the emotional decks, but it’s also powerful evidence that Dez and his band mates have given DevilDriver a volatile, visceral kick in the ass. Dez Fafara adds: “It’s time to lay it all out, on two records. I’m never gonna revisit these subjects again. I’ve been writing about this sort of human nature, disloyalty and dishonesty, love and loss, since the beginning of my career. I am going in a more lyrically woke direction in the future. A lot of people say my music gives them strength. But what they don’t realize is that these topics haunt me. Over the course of these last few years we fled from wildfires, my wife battled cancer and now we are going through a pandemic… so it is what it is… let’s dump it all on the table and purge. I want to go through different topics in the future, so here we are now. I’ve laid it all out on a double record for all of you to hear.”
This is just the beginning - fans should be prepared for the onslaught of what is to come with the impending second volume of the double album, which promises to go even harder. Foundation Of Bones is the new EP from death metal practitioners Enterprise Earth. Released today via Entertainment One (eOne), the EP serves as a surprise bridge piece from their latest full-length effort, Luciferous, into the work being laid down for their forthcoming LP and also marks the band's first self-produced output.
"Foundation Of Bones was a spur of the moment idea that quickly came to fruition," elaborates Enterprise Earth guitarist Gabriel Mangold. "After returning home from our canceled tour, we began writing and finishing up new material. While listening back to some new demos and being stoked on the quality of the mixes, we thought, 'Fuck it. Let's give self-production a go and release an impromptu EP!' Dan [Watson] tracked vocals at home in Indianapolis. Brandon [Zackey] recorded drums with our good friend/sound engineer, Chris Ghazel, in Los Angeles. I did guitars, bass, production, and handled mixing/mastering duties in my tiny home trailer studio rig in Taos, New Mexico. After several days of tweaking, we had a mix that we were all very stoked on and felt comfortable moving forward with our first self-produced release. I don't think we intended to accomplish anything specific with this EP other than releasing new music that we were very excited to show the world. However, throughout the process, we realized that we were attaining something vital in addition to releasing new music: the ability to self-produce. The sound we're developing is what we want to sound like, and we've all become that much more connected to our music now that we're at the reigns throughout the entire creative and production processes. We are very excited to continue developing our sound and have decided to self-produce our next LP."
Foundation Of Bones features one new song from the band (the title track), two cover tunes -- Lamb Of God's iconic "Now You've Got Something To Die For" and Necrophagist's "Fermented Offal Discharge" -- an acoustic interpretation of "There Is No Tomorrow" from their Luciferous LP, and an instrumental version of the new track.
Notes Mangold, "The covers were something that we had in mind for some time, and the opportunity to do this EP prompted us to take action. Lamb Of God and Necrophagist are two huge inspirations on us, so covering these tunes was a no-brainer. We experienced a ton of electric energy tracking these as they are songs that we've loved since we were kids; hopefully, we did them justice!
"The acoustic version of 'There Is No Tomorrow' was a cathartic experience," he continues. "It was inspired by bands that have done incredible acoustic renditions of their heavy tunes, namely Alice In Chains, The Contortionist, and I See Stars. Our sonic inspirations and musical expressions go much deeper than just being brutal, and we wanted to express that sentiment and develop another facet of our sound. We love melody, peaks, and valleys within a song, acoustic jams that take you on a journey, and most importantly, we love writing music that resonates strongly within us. 'There Is No Tomorrow' is easily the most melodic and emotional song from Luciferous. If any tune from that record deserved an acoustic rendition, it would be that one. That it's our collective favorite from that record, also made it an easy choice. Expect more of these acoustic renditions in the future."

May 18, 2019, Europe's biggest crossover band, Rise Of The Northstar, was back on stage after a 2 year hiatus away from the French capital, armed with its new record The Legacy Of Shi. The band took this opportunity to film and record a few songs from this sold out and memorable show. They have released their first live EP Live In Paris, and to celebrate the occasion, the band has revealed a new live video for their track “Samurai Spirit”.
The EP also includes the bonus studio track "Sayonara," recorded in 2017 at Silver Cord Studio (NYC) with Joe Duplantier. This mammoth of a song, with its Japanese chorus, was not available digitally before and was featured on the Japanese edition of The Legacy Of Shi as well as the vinyl version of the album. In these particularly tough times for the music industry, Rise Of The Northstar brings its own answer to not being able to perform live: "If you can’t come to our show, we’ll bring the show to you".

Testament drummer has uploaded a drum playthrough of Nepalese metal band Underside and their track, “Wild”.
Hoglan explains the cover: “In December 2019, Testament had the honor of performing at the Silence Festival in Kathmandu, Nepal. We were hosted by the festival’s organizers Underside and their management, Flower KC.
“In transit to a band dinner the night before the show, it was learned that Underside’s drummer was not able to fly into the show from his native India due to the massive unrest that his home country was currently undergoing.
“I felt the supreme disappointment from the band’s management and immediately sympathized with their plight. After all, Underside are the Silence Festival’s promoters, who rightfully utilize their position as such to promote themselves by playing on the Silence Fest’s stage, and now that action was in absolute peril. Without ever hearing the band, yet heartened by my newfound friendship with them and their management, I casually mentioned that I would be happy to play their set for them. This seemed to bring a little hope to them at a seriously dark moment.
“Little did I know what an incredible band Underside is. And that no matter what, not knowing their material, no rehearsals, very little sleep, I was going to try to do as much justice to their songs at the show as I could. And it is in that spirit that I started this little project of tracking a series of songs we performed that day.”
MEGADETH guitarist Kiko Loureiro has released the first song from his upcoming "Open Source" fifth solo album, an instrumental titled "EDM (e-Dependent Mind)".
The new track features Loureiro on guitar and keyboards, as well as Felipe Andreoli on bass and Bruno Valverde on drums.
"Open Source" will be the follow-up to "Sounds Of Innocence", which was released in June 2012.

Loureiro said: "By definition, 'open source' is related to softwares which the original source code is made freely available and may be redistributed and modified. It brings us a higher sense of community, enhances our creativity and creates new possibilities. So why not take this concept to our art, our music? How much richer a song could be if others had access to its source code? What if the song's original composition wasn't the final product? What if it was just the beginning? Something that could be constantly updated and evolve over time. And as well as a machine, we as humans are also minded to enhancements, being an open source ourselves, constantly moving and growing, through technology, science, spirituality… and art."
"This is the mindset which I bring now to my fifth solo album, that was named... guess what? OPEN SOURCE!
"My compositions and recordings are not the final objective of the album, but rather the start. I want you to have access to the way I created the album concept, to the songs and to how I played them. In addition, I will make the stems available for download. Kiko started composing his new solo album last year. The recordings started in September 2019 and he has been working on the LP ever since, in between MEGADETH's activities.
"Sounds Of Innocence" featured guest appearances by Virgil Donati on drums and Felipe Andreoli (ANGRA, ALMAH) on bass. One track also featured LIVING COLOUR bassist Doug Wimbish. The effort was produced by Kiko, mixed by Dennis Ward and mastered by Jürgen Lusky.
Kiko made his recording debut with MEGADETH on 2016's "Dystopia" album. The "Dystopia" title track was honored in the "Best Metal Performance" category at the 2017 Grammy Awards.
MEGADETH leader Dave Mustaine told Revolver magazine that finding Loureiro "was really a mind-blower. It was the first time since Marty Friedman joined the band that I was really intimidated as a player," he said. "He's such an amazing talent, and he's been coming in with all of these fresh ideas." Mustaine has also called Loureiro the "best guitarist we've ever had," adding that he was a good fit personality wise. "Chris [Broderick] and I had a good chemistry, but we weren't really as close as I would have wanted us to be," Mustaine explained. "Kiko, I feel like I've known him for years."

The Epic Apocalypse Tour featuring Epica and Apocalyptica, with support from Wheel, has been postponed until spring 2021.
