Just two weeks after dropping their sixth full-length album, Survival Of The Sickest, death metal beasts, Bloodbath, massively hail towards the annihilating spirit of old-school death metal with a new music video for thrillingly violent “Putrefying Corpse”. This vicious onslaught is driven by explosive death, thrash and black metal and features a roaring contribution by Barney Greenway (Napalm Death), proving the critically-acclaimed, cult-followed band has no limitations, leaving the scene in shreds.
With Survival Of The Sickest, the legendary wicked force featuring current and former members of Paradise Lost, Opeth, Katatonia and Lik marks an evil comeback, presenting death metal at its ugly best: vicious, unrelenting and irrevocably sworn to the black.
Nick Holmes on “Putrefying Corpse”: "The process of human life with a soul and humility, to eventual death, as nothing but rotting meat for vermin.”
Watch the official video for “Putrefying Corpse” below:
The world is in flames, and Survival Of The Sickest, produced by Bloodbath and co-produced and mixed by Lawrence Mackrory at Rorysound Studios, offers no respite from the horrors of reality. Instead, with the addition of new guitarist Tomas ‘Plytet’ Åkvik (Lik) onboard, Bloodbath’s latest and greatest album gleefully confronts the slavering ghoul lurking in the shadows, and treats him to ten songs of ripping death metal frenzy. Alongside Bloodbath’s official alumni, Survival Of The Sickest boasts a smattering of irresistible cameos from the great, good and ghoulish of the metal underground, including Barney Greenway (Napalm Death), Luc Lemay (Gorguts) and Marc Grewe (Morgoth).
Bloodbath: "If there was a declaration of goods attached to this album, it would say Florida death metal exported from Sweden."

Charlie Griffiths, guitarist with British progressive metal heavyweights Haken, recently released his debut solo album, Tiktaalika. With musical roots still firmly in the progressive realm, Charlie draws from his love of old-school 80s thrash, 90s tech-metal and alternative rock. Running the gamut from melodic to avant-garde to straight-up heavy, you might say Tiktaalika bridges the gap between King Crimson and King Diamond.
Today, Charlie has launched a video for the track "Digging Deeper", a song that features vocals from none other than Charlie himself. Watch below.
Charlie comments: “In the context of Tiktaalika, this song is a conversation between a fossilised ancestor and a modern day human, digging down though the rock strata, peeling back the layers of time. Both are connected, but are separated by hundreds of millions of years - until that point of discovery and reconnection. On a purely human level, we all have friends or family members we wish we could talk to again, but physically cannot and I was very much conscious of that feeling when writing and singing these words.”
The album includes stunning artwork from Dan Goldsworthy, and is available as a Ltd CD Edition, Gatefold 180g 2LP+CD & as Digital Album. Order here.
This concept album was 375 million years in the making, with the 9 tracks drawing inspiration from themes of geological time, fossilisation, transformation and humanity’s connections with each other and the planet we inhabit. The Griffiths-penned lyrics are given voice by some of the best vocalists in the business: Tommy Rogers (Between the Buried And Me), Danïel De Jongh (Textures), Vladimir Lalić (Organised Chaos) and Neil Purdy (Luna’s Call).
As well as handling guitar duties, Charlie also takes care of bass, keyboards and on one track, makes his debut lead vocal performance. Of the creative process Charlie explains, “I picked up the 6 string guitar again, which ironically has become the more unusual option for me, after 10 or so years writing with an 8-string guitar for Haken. It definitely sent me into a different creative headspace, with riff after riff seemingly falling out of the guitar. I naturally began forming those riffs into song structures, while simultaneously writing vocal melodies and building the lyrical concept. It was a great form of escapism from my usual environment and I had a lot of fun doing it”.
The album also features a host of guest musicians: Drummer Darby Todd (Martin Barre, Frost, Devin Townsend), Keyboard wizard Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater) and Saxophonist Rob Townsend (Steve Hackett). “All of the guest musicians took the songs to another level” Charlie explains, “I had everything written and demoed, so the guys could quickly learn the parts, but I gave free rein for them to bring their personality to the party. Darby’s drumming style, is so beautifully improvised and more jazz-fusion influenced, when paired with my riffs, it resulted in something unexpected. It blows my mind that the synth solo Jordan played was the very first take! Capturing that spirit of spontaneity within a structured piece is always very special”.
The album was mixed by Adam ‘Nolly’ Getgood and mastered by Ermin Hamidovic.
Swedish occult rockers GHOST have released the official "live" video for the song "Mary On A Cross". The performance footage for the Ryan Chang-directed clip was filmed on September 6 at the Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida during the summer 2022 leg of the band's "Imperatour".
In a message accompanying the YouTube release of the new "Mary On A Cross" video, GHOST said: "We wish to inform you that all good things must come to an end. Although the US Imperatour will wrap this weekend we wanted to leave you with this token of our appreciation for your continued support. Watch 'Mary on a Cross – Live from Tampa 2022'."
Earlier this week, GHOST scored its first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with "Mary On A Cross". The song, which was originally released as a two-track single in 2019 via Loma Vista/Concord (alongside "Kiss The Go-Goat"),debuted at No. 90 on the chart with six million U.S. streams and 1,000 downloads sold, according to Billboard.
"Mary On A Cross" has been gaining traction after a TikTok user used a slowed down version of the song to soundtrack a short video about the Netflix show "Stranger Things". Since then, the "Mary On The Cross" hashtag has amassed over one billion TikTok views and the song was used to soundtrack tens of thousands of videos on the platform. GHOST later released the official slowed down version of "Mary On A Cross" with added reverb.
Six of GHOST's albums have charted on the Billboard 200: "Infestissumam" (No. 28, 2013); "If You Have Ghost" EP (No. 87, 2013); "Meliora" (No. 8, 2015); "Popestar" EP (No. 16, 2016); "Prequelle" (No. 3, 2018); and "Impera" (No. 2, 2022). Nine GHOST songs have charted on the Mainstream Rock Airplay chart, with five reaching No. 1: "Square Hammer" in 2017; "Rats" in 2018; "Dance Macabre" in 2019; and "Hunter's Moon" and "Call Me Little Sunshine" in 2022.
Earlier this month, GHOST scored its first-ever Top 40 single in the U.K. with "Mary On A Cross".
GHOST's fifth album, "Impera" sold 70,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in its first week of release to land at position No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart. It marked the third top 10 album — and fifth top 40-charting set — for the Swedish act.
"Impera" landed at position No. 1 in Germany and Sweden, No. 2 in the U.K., Netherlands, Belgium and Norway, No. 3 in Australia, No. 5 in France and Ireland, and No. 20 in Italy.
"Impera" was released on March 11. The 12-song effort was produced by Klas Åhlund and mixed by Andy Wallace.
GHOST leader Tobias Forge worked on the follow-up to 2018's "Prequelle" with Åhlund and Swedish co-writers Salem Al Fakir and Vincent Pontare, whose credits include Madonna and Lady Gaga.
The HeavyMetalPowerslaveYouTube channel has uploaded video of RAMMSTEIN's September 17 concert at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. Check out the clips below.
RAMMSTEIN's North American stadium run kicked off on August 21 in Montreal and will end on October 4 in Mexico City.
One of the most revered metal groups of all time, RAMMSTEIN is renowned for its electrifying live shows often involving spectacular pyrotechnics.
Last fall, RAMMSTEIN's pyrotechnician revealed how much fuel it takes to bring the band's flaming stage show to life. Speaking with Ultimate Guitar, Nikolai Sabottka said RAMMSTEIN's current stadium setup, "uses roughly 1000 liters [about 265 gallons]."
Sabottka went on to say that he and the members of RAMMSTEIN are continuously in search of new technologies that can take their fiery stage show to new heights. He explained: "In the prep of a tour, we sit and exchange all the different ideas before we go and actually test what has been prototyped and built beforehand. After the initial test, there are endless changes to be implemented, and sometimes it simply does not work the way we imagined it and effects get pushed back to research and development while others get approved and are produced on a larger scale."
RAMMSTEIN is continuing to tour in support of its latest album, "Zeit", which arrived on April 29.
Till Lindemann (vocals),Paul Landers (guitar),Richard Z. Kruspe (guitar),Flake (keyboards),Oliver Riedel (bass) and Christoph Schneider (drums) spent two years working on the eleven songs on the new album. They were once again assisted by Berlin producer Olsen Involtini. "Zeit" was recorded at La Fabrique Studios in St. Rémy de Provence, France.
Bryan Adams managed to get a special scoop for the cover of the new album. The Canadian musician and photographer took the shot of RAMMSTEIN on the steps of the Trudelturm in Berlin Adlershof, an imposing monument to aerial research in the city's Aerodynamic Park.
Over the course of a career spanning almost 30 years, RAMMSTEIN has sold more than 20 million albums around the world and played countless spectacular, groundbreaking tours. When the band's sold-out stadium tour had to be postponed due to the pandemic, RAMMSTEIN used the time to work on their new album.
Reunited Canadian metallers KITTIE performed on September 8 at this year's Blue Ridge Rock Festival at the Virginia International Raceway in Alton, Virginia. Fan-filmed video of the entire concert is available below.
Joining guitarist/vocalist Morgan Lander and her sister, drummer Mercedes Lander, at the show were guitarist Tara McLeod and bassist Ivana "Ivy" Vujic.
Prior to Blue Ridge, KITTIE had not performed since its reunion show at London Music Hall in the band's native London, Ontario in 2017, celebrating the group's documentary "Kittie: Origins/Evolutions".
Morgan and her sister held their first rehearsal together since 2017 in April. A month earlier, Morgan confirmed to Anne Erickson of Audio Ink Radio that KITTIE will play more shows beyond the already announced appearances at the Blue Ridge Rock Festival and at the When We Were Young festival in October. "That's it for this year," Morgan said. "But next year, we definitely will. But I think those opportunities will come later on.
"We don't have anything set in stone, but I think it's something that, like I said before, once these doors are open, I think we can expect to feel comfortable doing a few more little things here and there and hopefully we'll be able to do some more one-offs in the States and Europe and that type of thing," she explained. "So the possibilities are endless."
Asked in a recent interview with the "Talk Toomey" podcast what led to Vujic returning to KITTIE for the current dates, Lander said: "Ivy played on two of our albums, the last two albums that we did. She left the band right before the very last big tour that we ended up doing; she did the Soundwave Festival [in Australia] with us in 2012, and those were the last shows that we did with her. And she just kind of settled into her life, started a family, got married, and so that's sort of been what she's been up to. But Ivy's a metal girl at heart and she's always been super, super easygoing about stuff. I just sent her a message and I was, like, 'Hey, can we talk?' And we had a really, really great phone call and I just sort of explained the situation, explained what was going on. I asked her if she'd be into doing it, and she was, like, 'Yeah. Sounds great.' … It's very much one of those things where you don't talk that often anymore, you don't see each other that often, but then, when you all get together again, that chemistry and that vibe is always there."
Morgan continued: "I feel like that lineup of KITTIE in particular was always very super pro, super chill — no stress, no drama. Just, like, 'You know what? We're gonna go out there and we're gonna sound amazing.'
"She's an incredible bass player. I don't think that Ivy gets enough credit. She is absolutely incredible. So it's gonna be great."
Vujic joined KITTIE in 2008 and appeared on the band's fifth studio CD, 2009's "In The Black". She also wrote and recorded bass for KITTIE's sixth album, 2011's "I've Failed You".
When We Were Young will be held on the Las Vegas Festival Grounds on the Strip on October 22, October 23 and October 29.
In January, the original lineup of KITTIE — Morgan, Mercedes, Fallon Bowman (guitar) and Tanya Candler (bass) — reunited for an online chat to celebrate the 22nd anniversary of its gold-certified 2000 debut album, "Spit".
Candler left KITTIE after the release of "Spit" in order to finish high school and was replaced by Talena Atfield.
Bowman exited KITTIE in 2001 and started her own industrial/electronic project, AMPHIBIOUS ASSAULT.
After KITTIE completed the touring cycle for 2011's "I've Failed You" album, the band entered a long period of inactivity during which Morgan focused on a marketing job for a chain of fitness clubs while Mercedes worked in real estate and more recently at a software company. The group also began work on a career-spanning documentary, "Origins/Evolutions", which finally saw the light of day in 2018 via Lightyear Entertainment in North America.
"I've Failed You" sold 3,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 178 on The Billboard 200 chart.
Canadian duo Greber - Steve Vargas (drums/vocals; The Great Sabatini, BIIPIIGWAN) and Marc Bourgon (bass, vocals; ex-F*ck The Facts, Cancelled) - recently released the new album, Fright Without, their fourth full-length. They now have a video for the track “Nosebleed”, an honest look at reality, which will throw listeners directly into the fray that is their low-end dominant, noise-encrusted, hardcore grind.
They explain in their own words: “This one is a bit all over the place. Maybe TOO all over the place perhaps. We dig it nonetheless. Topically… and orally… this one is just a reckoning with the fact that we are all closer to death than we can ever imagine. Either that or further than we can imagine. The nug of bullshit that I’m getting at is that few people are ever aware of the fact that they are doing something for the last time. The last time is just the last time and then whatever it is you were doing, ends. Life. Your car. Your hair. Your friends. Just love the shit out of as much as you can throughout the duration of the current nightmare you’re experiencing. There I go pontificating again.”
Arc Of Life, a progressive rock group featuring vocalist Jon Davison, bassist/vocalist Billy Sherwood, drummer Jay Schellen, keyboardist Dave Kerzner, and guitarist Jimmy Haun, recently announced the upcoming release of their sophomore album, Don't Look Down, on November 18.
The band have released a music video for the single, "All Things Considered". Watch below, and pre-order/save Don't Look Down here.
Jon Davison and Billy Sherwood are both currently members of the legendary progressive rock band YES, while Jay Schellen serves as YES' live drummer. Dave Kerzner made quite the name for himself in the progressive rock scene via some high profile collaborations and ultimately his work with the well-regarded band Sound Of Contact. And Jimmy Haun is known for his work with YES and Circa. These five prog musicians brought their cumulative experiences together to craft their own brand of progressive music, with YES being a common influence amongst all, but not the sole touch point of what they aspired to be musically. The band's mission was to acknowledge their influences while simultaneously reaching beyond them.
Arc Of Life's self-titled debut album was released on February 12, 2021. The concept behind the album was, in keeping with the progressive rock philosophy, to craft creative, challenging, and ear-pleasing music that pushes boundaries. A lot of musical comparisons could be made to describe Arc Of Life’s grandiose and epic approach to music on their debut, but those descriptions are best left to the listeners to discern for themselves as repeat listens will reveal more layers. And such is the case again with their forthcoming sophomore album, "Don't Look Down", making Arc Of Life a true garden of delight for all progressive rock fans.

Melbourne, Australia-based progressive metal band Teramaze have released the third single, "For The Thrill", from their forthcoming 10th album, Flight Of The Wounded. The single will be released through Wells Music and will be available for purchase and streaming on October 6. A music video for the track can be viewed below.
Lead singer, guitarist and songwriter Dean Wells commented on the single by saying: “This song came together super fast. We were throwing some riffs, keys and grooves back and forth as we usually do, and things just happened to click. After we’d finished demoing it, me and the guys knew it would be one of the main singles for the next album… it just felt super fun and catchy. Without giving too much away, I wanted to write a song about standing you ground and backing your convictions, even if it makes you the scapegoat or a loner. “Stick to your guns”, without being too cheesy. As a band we like to write music from a place of hope, healing and self belief.”
Flight Of The Wounded will be released independently in early October 2022, via Wells Music. Pre-order here.

Hard rock, genre defying band LYLVC release their third single “Undertow” from their upcoming EP Perfect Drug, due out later in 2022.
LYLVC’s dual lead vocalists Alyse Zavala and Oscar Romero alternate back and forth between melodic and anthemic choruses and rapidfire introspective verses throughout “Undertow”. The instrumentals kick off with a catchy synth playing the main melody before the guitars and drums kick in to create an energetic and emotional performance that does not let up until the end.
The music video, directed by Scott Hansen at Digital Thunderdome, depicts the members of LYLVC being trapped in an asylum and at one point, literally ‘drowning’. The video directly correlates to the lyrics, showing a visual representation of being stuck at a point in one's life, or ‘drowning’ under pressure that one cannot escape from.
LYLVC recently announced their first cross-country tour, alongside New Years Day. The tour kicks off at Transplants Brewery in Palmdale, CA on October 8 and will cover the southern United States, eventually finishing at Hooligan’s in Jacksonville, NC on October 23. LYLVC will be providing direct support for each date of the tour.
Prior to the release of “Undertow” LYLVC released two singles, “Perfect Drug” and “Heirloom”. They saw early success with the release of their debut single “Perfect Drug”, which has surpassed 1 million views on YouTube, and continued on to release their second single “Heirloom”. Hollywood Life lauded “Heirloom” in their exclusive premiere, “The band delivers an emotionally-fueled anthem for those who are doing their best to keep it together despite all the demons living behind their eyes.”
“Heirloom” along with “Perfect Drug” was recorded at Multi Platinum Grammy-nominated Producer Howard Benson’s LA studio West Valley and was produced by Mike Plotnikoff and Joe Rickard.

UK black metal act Abduction have landed on the roster of one of extreme metal’s most famous labels, Candlelight Records, and are launching their first full length in over three years, Black Blood.
Despite a staggeringly prolific catalog since forming in 2017, the new, explosive Black Blood, is truly their most ambitious and rewarding release to date. Known for intense, ritualistic, and immersive performances, Black Blood pushes Abduction into new territories without straying from the core sound that broke them into the wider consciousness of both the UK and international black metal fanbases years ago.
A nightmarish yet entrancing listen from the hypnotically earnest and haunting opener "In Exaltation Of The Supreme Being", to the blend of uncompromising stripped down black metal and slower, almost post-metal textures of "Psylocybic Death", it is an intense and dynamic experience.
States A|V, the band’s vocalist, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist: "Rather than continue to exist in the well-established sphere I’ve grown comfortable in, I decided that now is the time to take a leap into the unknown. Much like the narratives of the songs, there is both trepidation and elation. Time will be the judge…"
Black Blood will be released on October 21st.
Tracklist:
"Kernos Crown"
"Dismantling the Corpse of Demeter"
"Plutonian Gate"
"Lightless at the Grand Conjunction"
"A Psylacybic Death"
"In Exaltation of the Supreme Being"
Formed in 2016 as a shadowy single-man entity, Abduction have made astonishingly fast progress, carving a fearsome reputation for themselves as a standout act in an increasingly crowded extreme metal scene.
Signing to a respected overseas label almost instantly (Lithuania’s Inferna Profundus) before releasing 2017’s caustic debut To Further Dreams of Failure, the outfit have remained staggeringly prolific. Releasing two more full-lengths the next two years, 2018’s Crown of Curses and, in particular, 2019’s All Pain As Penance broke into the wider consciousness of both the UK and international black metal fanbases.
Performing alone in the early years – a rare sight, despite the many one-man bands in the genre – Abduction’s central protagonist A|V then expanded the band into a full live outfit, to better create intense, ritualistic and immersive performances, both at underground shows and larger festivals.
The intervening years have not seen the band slow in its output, with limited cassette-only releases, digital singles and a split with Canada’s Nocturnal Prayer seeing the light of day. The band has, however, gone for an unprecedented period without a full-length release… until now.
Cue the explosive Black Blood, Abduction’s most ambitious and rewarding album to date. Recorded – like its predecessor – by Ian Boult at Stuck on a Name Studios in Nottingham, this nightmarish yet entrancing listen is pushes Abduction into new territories without straying from their core sound. From the hypnotically earnest and haunting opener ‘In Exaltation of the Supreme Being’, to the expansive 11 minute epic ‘Plutonian Gate’, with its marked progressive and psychedelic overtones, to the blend of uncompromising stripped down black metal and slower, almost post-metal textures of ‘Psylocybic Death’, it is an intense and dynamic experience.
“I’m an avid listener of ‘raw’ black metal,” explains vocalist, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist A|V, “particularly the way that unintentional noise and lack of clarity can draw you in and provoke the imagination. On the other hand, the evolution of what Abduction has become requires something less indecipherable. With this record, I’ve implied a greater story, without explicitly describing each chapter.”
Thus Black Blood draws both from the band’s roots and new inspirations. The fact that members of British black metal bands The Sun’s Journey Through the Night and Revenant Marquis appear is a welcome nod to where Abduction come from, yet the fact that the band are atypical for a UKBM act – no rousing odes to England or 90s Scandinavian formulas here – is perhaps their most precious attribute. Their distinctive qualities have also earnt them a place on the roster of one of extreme metal’s most famous labels, Candlelight Records, a definite milestone.
Frost* are set to hit the road in the UK later this year, for their much anticipated live-return. The band will be celebrating the release of their 2021 album, Day And Age, and in advance of these tour dates they have launched a brand new video for the track, "Skywards". Watch below.
Jem Godfrey comments: “It will have been 5 years and 3 days since we last played in the UK when we go onstage in Wolverhampton on November 27th so we figured we’d do something special. To that end Craig Blundell has re-joined the band and we’ll be playing Milliontown, Black Light Machine, Hyperventilate and a few other classics from the repertoire to celebrate alongside a good chunk of the new album. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”
Dates:

28 - Edinburgh, UK - Queens Hall
29 - Leeds, UK - Brudenell Social Club
30 - Bath, UK - Komedia
St. Louis, MO-based black metal duo Stormruler - consisting of midwestern scene stalwarts Jason Asberry (vocals/guitars/bass) and Jesse Schobel (drums/vocals) - recently announced their return with the upcoming new album, Sacred Rites & Black Magick, out October 14 via Napalm Records. Sacred Rites & Black Magick weaves epic tales of war, history, black magick and sorcery beyond the standard confines of black metal, birthing an unforgettable conceptual journey of legend that any metal fan would be remiss to ignore.
Following the album's epic first single and music video for title track "Sacred Rites & Black Magick", which dropped last month, Stormruler have dropped a second single - the grandiose "Internal Fulmination Of The Grand Deceivers". The track shines with heavy bass and blast beats before cascading into icy atmosphere topped by smoke-cloaked vocals. Entrancing guitars match an ebb and flow of carefully paced interludes and merciless, speeding fury, showcasing standout leads and a blazing solo.
Stormruler says about "Internal Fulmination Of The Grand Deceivers": "Fulmination was chosen both as our next single and as the album's opener for the attention that it demands and the journey upon which it will take the listener. It has a commanding delivery carried triumphantly by its soaring leads, stoic howling vocals and ice cold trem. An embodiment of what we consider to be true imperial black metal warfare."
Stormruler broke out in 2021 with the avid subterranean support of their debut full-length, Under A Burning Eclipse – subsequently garnering scores of acclaim upon its wide re-release via Napalm Records. The album introduced Stormruler’s beyond-their-years execution of raw, atmospheric black metal doused in extravagant lyricism.
Produced, mixed and mastered by Gabe Usery at Encapsulated Studios and featuring stunning artwork by Giannis Nakos of Remedy Art Design, Sacred Rites & Black Magick blisters with more unrelenting intensity while maintaining a haunting, visceral aura more ancient and foreboding than ever. As on Under A Burning Eclipse, between each song on Sacred Rites & Black Magick is an intricately positioned interlude building the ambiance and steering the thematic intensity of the album.
Stormruler says about Sacred Rites & Black Magick: "This album is on another level in comparison to our previous offering. It falls in the same vein of the melodic second wave black metal worship of Under The Burning Eclipse, but with a more intense and darker touch. It's got the high speed buzzsaw attack we love, crushing grooves, solid leads, ambience within the interludes and acoustic passages, as well as lyrics that tell a story."
Sacred Rites & Black Magick is available for pre-order in the following formats:
- 4 page CD Digipak

Ride the "Last Tide" of progressive avant-garde metal from Italy's MindAheaD with their second single off their forthcoming sophomore album "6119 Part 1" being released via Rockshots Records at the end of October.
The latest track to be previewed off their upcoming full-length record, "Last Tide" is an emotional ballad that tells the next chapter of the concept album's character "6119". The band explains in further detail:
"Lost in a kind of frame, like an endless instant, 'Last Tide' describes where ‘6119’ finds himself on the seashore, watching the waves and the sunset. He reflects on the natural change of things that, just like the waves of the sea, never stop changing, and thinks back with nostalgia and hope to the female figure seen in the desert. But this sudden and almost unique carefree situation is the result of an error, a power surge in the Machine's connections that allow ‘6119’ to have an independent vision of the program, an autonomous thought, you can say. Soon (in fact, it is the shortest track on the album), as soon as the sun went down, the Machine reestablishes itself and again takes control of ‘6119's’ consciousness."
Progressive avant-garde metallers, Italy's MindAhead return in 2022 with their sophomore album 6119 Part 1 via Rockshots Records to follow their 2017 debut full-length Reflections released on Roman label Revalve Records. Just like its predecessor, the band's new offering is once again a concept album with a complex, personal and unusual sound to test the limits of their songwriting. 6119 Part 1 is a continuation of the previous work on Reflections, which will tell us the story of 6119, the main character, through a surreal, oneiric journey, always poised between physical space and the realm of the mind. Trapped in this dreamlike kaleidoscope, he proceeds heedless of the consequences, hoping to find at the end of the journey (the Part II, currently in production) the reason why all this is happening to him.
Merging different aspects, sometimes opposite, of human feeling, bringing them together in a colorful and personal musical proposal, which has its roots in influences ranging from prog ‘70s to death metal, the band explains the new album in further detail:
"This album is a concept realized with the aim of telling a story that straddles the line between dystopian science fiction and the psychological investigation of the human mind, so the music and lyrics were created in order to reach these goals. We would like the listening experience to be completely immersive. We would like the listener to be able to take a break from the real world and step into another dimension, one that is distant but at the same time well known, not alien, but almost familiar. The listener should passionately follow the events of 6119 in its inner and outer search for reality, in a story that began in the previous album Reflections and will end in the band's next release, so as to complete a narrative trilogy."
Having shared the stage with bands such as Jinjer, Vision Divine, Deathless Legacy, Domine, Pino Scotto, MindAhead is recommended for fans of Opeth, Ayreon, Haken, Katatonia and Pink Floyd. 6119 Part 1 is due out October 28, 2022 via Rockshots Records.

With Autopsy's highly anticipated new album Morbidity Triumphant due for release imminently, the band have premiered the disturbing, blood-soaked video for the track “Knife Slice Axe Chop.”
Chris Reifert laughingly says “Ever headbanged and barfed at the same time? Check out the video for our new song ‘Knife Slice, Axe Chop’ and see how it feels. Our buddy Cam and his crew of lunatics at Rabidog Films and The Butchers Shop have given us the blood ‘n guts fest that we’ve always wanted and we can’t wait for you, our beloved Autopsy freaks to shove this nightmare into your eyes and ears. Tell yer pals!”
“Knife Slice Axe Chop” will be available as a digital single on all streaming platforms on Wednesday, September 21.
Since first bursting onto the death metal scene with the now genre classic Severed Survival back in 1989 and following up with the equally revered Mental Funeral album, the influential quartet has carved an unwavering legacy over three decades as masters and purveyors of the vile sides of the extreme metal spectrum. And now, Autopsy marks its reinvigorated return, presenting the first new full-length studio opus since 2014’s Tourniquets, Hacksaws and Graves with Morbidity Triumphant; a savage offering of brutal death, showing the US legends still have an unbridled hunger for the sadistic, never reluctant to step beyond the threshold of decency.
Morbidity Triumphant, the band’s eighth album, is truly a dark delight for seasoned and new listeners alike, with a raw organic sound perfectly encapsulating what makes Autopsy so distinguishable among its peers, for what could easily be considered one of its strongest offerings to date.
The driving force of Autopsy as ever is the virtuoso guitar pairing of Eric Cutler and Danny Coralles, effortlessly trading off their schizophrenic leads and switching from all-out death metal madness to groove-laden heavy doom, with unmistakable drum/vocal legend Chris Reifert being master of proceedings, spewing his own infinitely creative maniacal musings. Morbidity Triumphant also notably marks the first album to feature new bassist Greg Wilkinson, currently also seen in Static Abyss along with Chris “working with Greg on the Autopsy record was totally different than the Static Abyss one, mostly since Autopsy is a complete band with their own pre-established ways of doing things – we just abducted him into the band and had him roll with our ways, which he took to like a fish to gasoline so much so that he contributed a song musically which fit in perfectly with the rest of the sickening anthems on the album.”
Morbidity Triumphant was recorded at Opus Studios, with long-associated engineer Adam Munoz at the helm. Mastering was completed by Ken Lee.
The cover artwork appears courtesy of Wes Benscoter (Slayer, Bloodbath), with a new work of twisted and sinister genius. Chris exclaims, “Wes delivered another stunner. What a maniac!” He explains, “We didn’t give him much to work with as usual. I think, maybe, just a couple of song titles and themes maybe and his imagination did most of the work. The album title came along after the fact. After having our minds blown by Wes’ art we arrived at “Morbidity Triumphant” which seemed to fit the theme of the painting as well as the way we feel about the state of the band in general. We’ve been working hard at our sick craft with zero compromise and it seems we’re still hitting our stride somehow.”
Turn out the lights, crank it up until your speakers puke and see where it takes you. You might be surprised at the thoughts and visions that enter your head. Get the ticket, take the ride and be prepared for your mind to eat itself alive.
Morbidity Triumphant will be released in the following formats: CD / black vinyl LP / ltd edition violet coloured LP – exclusive to the Peaceville label stores / other colours available in various territories / cassette / digital. Pre-order here.

On Saturday, September 17, the original MISFITS headlined Riot Fest 2022 in Chicago, Illinois, performing their landmark first album "Walk Among Us" in full. The 1982 record, celebrating its 40th anniversary next year, is hailed by MISFITS fans — as well as by publications like Rolling Stone and Pitchfork, in recent years — as one of the greatest punk records of all time.
After the "Walk Among Us" portion of the set, the MISFITSplayed another 12 classics, including "Bullet", "Hybrid Moments", "Some Kinda Hate", "Halloween", "Last Caress", "Horror Business" and "We Are 138" as well as "Earth A.D." cuts like "Die, Die My Darling" and the title track.
The initial comeback performance by MISFITS, featuring singer/songwriter Glenn Danzig and original bassist Jerry Only with Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein on guitar, took place at the 2016 Riot Fest. The estranged bandmates played together for the first time since 1983 and were backed by former SLAYER drummer Dave Lombardo and guitarist Acey Slade.
Since then, the original lineup of the MISFITS has reunited for scattered dates, with the most recent pre-Riot Fest 2022 one taking place in October 2021 at the Aftershock festival in Sacramento.
Prior to the Riot Fest concerts, Glenn, Jerry and Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein last performed together on October 29, 1983.
Two years ago, Danzig told Rolling Stone magazine that he was happy with the way the MISFITS shows have been going. "Shit, we sold out Madison Square Garden," he said. "As a matter of fact, we oversold it. Back in the day, all the bigwig promoters and record label people were, like, 'A punk band will never headline Madison Square Garden.' And, of course, we're the first punk band to headline there. And not only did we sell it out, we oversold it. So a big fuck you to all those assholes, who are probably selling hotdogs on Sixth Avenue."
The original MISFITS band broke up in 1983, and Only brought forth a new version of the MISFITS in 1995. Various members have come and gone, but Only, along with BLACK FLAG's Dez Cadena, has kept some form of the MISFITS in the recording studio and on the road for most of the last two and half decades.
In a 2016 interview with Rolling Stone, Only said about working with Danzig again: "Glenn is Glenn. We dealt with Glenn in the beginning and it's the same dealing with Glenn now. It doesn't change. It's just a different perspective. If we let Glenn be Glenn and do what we're supposed to do, it's gonna work. You don't argue with each other. I think we're over that. I think we're old enough now."
Asked what it was like keeping the MISFITS going for 20 years without Glenn, Only said: "There was always that hole. When Glenn split, there was always that feeling we were missing a component of what makes us what we are. And I'm sure the same goes on for him. In the other bands he was in, he's changed people left and right. When we play together, it's just us."
End Day Two of Riot Fest with The Misfits

Formed in 1968, the original Alice Cooper band forged a theatrical brand of hard rock that was destined to shock and had never been seen before. Within five years, they would release no fewer than seven studio albums, amongst them their international breakthrough School's Out (including the Top 10 hit of the same name) and the US #1 Billion Dollar Babies (1973). By 1974, the band had risen to the upper echelon of rock stardom... and then it dissolved.
In October 2015, over 40 years later, record store owner and superfan Chris Penn convinced the original lineup to reunite for a very special performance at Good Records, his record store in Dallas, Texas.
Alice Cooper (vocals), Michael Bruce (guitar), Dennis Dunaway (bass), and Neal Smith (drums) were joined on stage by Alice's current guitarist Ryan Roxie (standing in for the late Glen Buxton). A packed audience was expecting to attend Dennis Dunaway's Snakes! Guillotines! Electric Chairs! book signing. But they ended up witnessing a full-blown happening.
The legendary reunion show including all-time classics such as "No More Mr. Nice Guy," "I'm Eighteen," and "School's Out," is now becoming available for the very first time worldwide on September 30.
Luckily, the event was also filmed. The documentary movie Live From The Astroturf, Alice Cooper (edited and directed by Steven Gaddis) was very warmly welcomed at film festivals all over the world by music fans as well as rock journalists. The documentary won multiple awards for its coverage of the historic event. The movie is included in the live album's first print CD and Vinyl LP editions.
