DREAM THEATER's JAMES LABRIE Is 'Really Excited' About His Upcoming Solo Album: 'It Came Out Fantastic'DREAM THEATER singer James LaBrie spoke to Full Metal Jackie's nationally syndicated radio show about his upcoming solo album "Beautiful Shade Of Gray", which is due on May 20, 2022 via InsideOut Music. Unlike previous LPs "Elements Of Persuasion" (2005), "Static Impulse" (2010) and "Impermanent Resonance" (2013), which were written and recorded as a collaboration with LaBrie's songwriting partner for over a dozen years, Matt Guillory, the new effort was tracked with Scottish musician Paul Logue, bassist and founding member of the multinational melodic metal band EDEN'S CURSE.
Speaking about how 1970s rock music influenced and inspired his new solo album, James said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "I'm a huge [LED] ZEPPELIN fan. I'm a huge [fan of] PINK FLOYD and AEROSMITH and DEEP PURPLE and all that. These bands were so iconic back in the '70s. So a lot of the inspiration, when I sat down with Paul Logue, who's the other musician that I wrote the album with, and he's from Scotland, I said, 'Paul, I just want us to think more about…' If you think about the acoustic end of ZEPPELIN and their organic approach to their songs, it was still beautiful, it was still powerful, extremely melodic, and it just kind of reached deep within, it resonated deep within each and every one of us that listened to any ZEPPELIN. So that was the catalyst to set things in motion. It became a full ensemble. I mean, I have keyboards, drums, bass, rhythm guitar, lead guitar and then myself doing all the vocals. So it's somewhat acoustic but it's also a full ensemble as well. So it still has the full band kind of sound and orchestration."
Regarding the lyrical themes covered on the LP, James said: "'Beautiful Shade Of Gray' has a lot to do with the lyrics that I wrote for this album. And a lot of my lyrics are dealing with the human condition and all the dynamics of life in itself that each and every one of us experience and, to a certain degree, it's common for most of us to go through the same experiences. So I wanted to write a lot about that. So that's kind of what inspired this whole venture."
LaBrie went on to say that he was "really excited for everyone to hear" "Beautiful Shade Of Gray". "It came out fantastic," he said.
Two months ago, James told "The Everyman Podcast" about how his collaboration with Logue came about: "I sang on one of [EDEN'S CURSE's] songs back in 2010 called 'No Holy Man'; so I guest on that. And I really liked Paul's writing. To me, Paul's writing was more from a classical era — like the '70s; that classic rock approach. And I had a lot of ideas in that vein.
"Paul and I actually bumped into each other — you think fate isn't there with you; holy shit… The day after we finished the show — DREAM THEATER in Glasgow [on] February 23rd [2020]. I'm waiting for my flight on the 24th to go to London and then Toronto, and Paul walks by me and he goes, 'James!' I'm, like, 'Oh my God!' He goes, 'You know I was at the show last night.' He kept trying to e-mail me on my old e-mail address. And he goes, 'Listen, let me know. You wanna get together? You wanna do some writing?' And I said, 'I'd love to.' At the time, I said, 'I don't know. Some freaky shit's going on. You're hearing about this virus?' 'Yeah. Yeah.' [I said] 'We've gotta go to Asia, then we've gotta go to freakin' South America and North America and all that.' I said, 'So we're probably not gonna be done till October, but why don't we start writing then? Or why don't we start throwing ideas back in the meantime, and I can even be on the road and working on it?' And he goes, 'Great.' All of a sudden, the world closes down. So we got on it… It was probably… Everything closed down March 15th, I believe, and by March 20th, him and I were already passing ideas back and forth."
Elaborating on the songwriting process for "Beautiful Shade Of Gray", LaBrie said: "We started as, we said, 'Let's just keep it real raw and acoustic-based — that'll be the fundamental of this album,' and then it kind of morphed into more of an ensemble, so [with] keyboards… Marco Sfogli is playing lead guitar on all the tracks. Paul is playing all the rhythm acoustic guitars and bass. And then [my son] Chance [LaBrie] is doing drums. Christian Pulkkinen is the keyboard player, who's a fantastic keyboard player, piano player. All the lyrics, except one, I penned.
"It was really interesting how it came together, whether I'd be throwing [Paul] a riff or I'd be throwing him a melody idea that became a chorus to one of the songs or verses," he continued. "And then he'd throw me back his ideas musically. And we slowly but surely put it all together. We had everybody fully involved. And it came out fantastic. The label is really stoked about it. It has that kind of ZEPPELIN-esque feel to it, but still the modern-day aspects of it as well are there. So it's great."
"Impermanent Resonance" was released in August 2013 via InsideOut Music. The follow-up to "Static Impulse" saw Guillory not only taking the leading role in composing the material, but also handling all of the keyboards and background vocals. The album's lineup was intact from the previous recording, featuring Marco Sfogli from Italy on guitar, Ray Riendeau (HALFORD, MACHINES OF LOVING GRACE) on bass and Swedish drummer Peter Wildoer (DARKANE, MAJESTIC), who was a finalist in the DREAM THEATER drum auditions. Additionally, former SOILWORK guitarist Peter Wichers came into the fold to contribute songwriting and studio guitars.
In 2014, LaBrie released a digital EP, "I Will Not Break", via InsideOut Music. While the opening title track was the album version taken from the "Impermanent Resonance" release, two other songs were previously only released physically as digipak bonus tracks, one tune was an alternate mix version, and two other songs were special demo versions, all previously only released physically as bonus tracks on the digipak and the Japanese edition for the "Static Impulse" album in 2010. The last three tracks were special dub step / electronica remixes of "Static Impulse" songs, previously unreleased. The remixes were done by U.S.-based DJs Jason Miller, Mutrix and NeonGenesis. The cover artwork for the EP was once again designed by Gustavo Sazes of Abstrata.net (ARCH ENEMY, KAMELOT).

Watch Pro-Shot Video Of KREATOR Performing 'Terrible Certainty' At U.K.'s BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIRProfessionally filmed video footage of German thrash metal veterans KREATOR performing the song "Terrible Certainty" during their August 14 appearance at the Bloodstock Open Air festival at Catton Park, Walton-on-Trent, United Kingdom can be seen below.
This past summer, KREATOR entered Hansa Tonstudio in Berlin, Germany to begin recording its new album for a tentative early 2022 release. Helming the sessions is Arthur Rizk, who has previously worked with CAVALERA CONSPIRACY, CODE ORANGE, POWER TRIP and SOULFLY, among others.
Earlier this year, KREATOR frontman Mille Petrozza revealed to the official podcast of Italy's Metalitalia.com that the band would wait until the coronavirus pandemic has subsided before releasing an album.
"Last [year], in August, we felt that we were done [writing], and we were very enthusiastic about, like, 'Okay, this is almost an album. We have 12 songs. And we take the 10 best, or whatever we come up with.' And we already planned on going into the studio in February," he said. "Now it's February, and the world is still kind of fucked with the COVID. So we have to wait and be patient… I think going on a tour, the artwork, everything has to connect. So we'll wait until that's possible again, and then we'll put out the album."
On the topic of the musical direction of the follow-up to 2017's "Gods Of Violence" album, Mille said: "It's definitely different. It's hard for me to describe, but I think it's definitely more thrash again. It has a lot of melody, and it has a lot of traditional parts, and it has a lot of ingredients of the last four or five albums. But it also has some very old-school moments. I think it's definitely the next step."
KREATOR's next album will mark the band's first with bassist Frédéric Leclercq, who joined the group in 2019.
In September 2020, KREATOR guitarist Sami Yli-Sirniö described the sessions for the band's new album to Italy's Poisoned Rock as "a lot of fun," adding that the "mood" in the band "is great. And the general vibe and the atmosphere is very good," he said. "[These are] creative times for KREATOR at the moment."
In March 2020, KREATOR surprise-released a new single, "666 - World Divided". The song was produced by Andy Sneap and Markus Ganter and was recorded at Hansa Tonstudios.
The music video for "666 - World Divided" was created under the direction of Jörn Heitmann, who was responsible for the music videos for "Radio" and "Ausländer" by RAMMSTEIN.
KREATOR played its first show with Leclercq in October 2019 in Santiago, Chile.
Before joining KREATOR, Leclercq rose to fame with U.K.-based extreme power metallers DRAGONFORCE for whom he handled bass duties from 2005 until August 2019.
KREATOR's previously announced "State Of Unrest" European tour with LAMB OF GOD has been rescheduled for November/December 2022 in the wake of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
KREATOR released a new live set, "London Apocalypticon - Live At The Roundhouse", in February 2020 via Nuclear Blast. The effort was professionally filmed and recorded on December 16, 2018 at the Roundhouse in London, England.

EVANESCENCE Releases Cover Of THE BEATLES' 'Across The Universe'EVANESCENCE has released a studio recording of its cover version of THE BEATLES' "Across The Universe". The track, which was previously covered by Amy Lee and her bandmates on their 2018 "Synthesis" tour, was also featured on disc two, "A Live Session From Rock Falcon Studio", of the limited box-set version of EVANESCENCE's latest album, "The Bitter Truth", containing 10 live studio session songs. The song has now been made available as a digital single via all digital music service providers.
Upon its release, "The Bitter Truth" charted at No. 4 in the U.K., making it the band's fourth Top Five album in the country. EVANESCENCE's first full-length release of all-new material in a decade, "The Bitter Truth" also debuted as the top-selling rock and alternative album in the U.S., according to Nielsen Music Connect.
Shortly after its arrival on March 26, "The Bitter Truth" rose to the top of the iTunes album charts in 22 countries. Recorded during the pandemic, it confronts the dark realities of the world head-on. Yet its resounding message is one of light, and that pushing through is better than giving up.
A kiss-off to the naysayers and the cheats in the rearview mirror, "Better Without You" explodes with the "metal catharsis" that runs through 'The Bitter Truth'" (Los Angeles Times). The official music video for the track was directed by filmmaker Eric D. Howell ("Ana's Playground", "Voice From The Stone"), who also directed the video for EVANESCENCE's "Use My Voice".
EVANESCENCE's new music was produced by Nick Raskulinecz, who also worked on 2011's self-titled LP.

CHRIS CORNELL's Daughter And PETE THORN Perform 'Nothing Compares 2 U' On 'Jimmy Fallon' (Video)Chris Cornell's daughter Toni Cornell performed her late father's Grammy-nominated cover of Prince's "Nothing Compares 2 U" on last night's (Thursday, December 16) episode of "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon". The 17-year-old singer was joined on acoustic guitar by Pete Thorn, who had performed with Chris Cornell on tours supporting the SOUNDGARDEN frontman's "Carry On" and "Scream" solo albums.
Last month, Chris Cornell was nominated for two Grammy Awards: "Best Rock Album" for his covers collection "No One Sings Like You Anymore Vol. 1", and "Best Rock Performance" for his version of "Nothing Compares 2 U".
"No One Sings Like You Anymore", Chris Cornell's handpicked collection of 10 cover songs, which he personally selected and sequenced to celebrate artists and songs that inspired him, was released in December 2020. Recorded by Chris in 2016, the album, which is his last fully completed studio LP, also features his renditions of John Lennon's "Watching The Wheels", GHOSTLAND OBSERVATORY's "Sad Sad City", Harry Nilsson's "Jump Into The Fire", Carl Hall's "You Don't Know Nothing About Love", ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA's "Showdown", Terry Reid's "To Be Treated Rite", Lorraine Ellison's "Stay With Me Baby" (originally released for HBO's show "Vinyl"), and "Get It While You Can", popularized by Janis Joplin. Chris's cover of GUNS N' ROSES' "Patience", which was released on his birthday this year, and earned him his first solo Billboard No. 1 on the Mainstream Rock Songs chart, is also included on the album.
Three and a half years ago, Toni shared a recording of her and her late father covering "Nothing Compares 2 U" to mark Father's Day.
"Daddy, I love you and miss you so much," she wrote at the time. "You were the best father anyone could ask for. Our relationship was so special, and you were always there for me. You gave me courage when I didn't have any. You believed in me when I didn't. I miss your love everyday. Recording this song with you was a special and amazing experience I wish I could repeat 100 times over and I know you would too. Happy Father's Day daddy, nothing compares to you."
In April 2020, Toni performed an acoustic cover version of TEMPLE OF THE DOG's "Hunger Strike" from her father's home studio during LiveXLive's "Music Lives" global digital music festival.
In August 2017, Toni Cornell joined the band ONEREPUBLIC onstage on ABC's "Good Morning America" to perform the Leonard Cohen song "Hallelujah". The performance was a celebration the lives of Chris Cornell and late LINKIN PARK frontman Chester Bennington, both of whom died within months of each other.
Chris Cornell was found hanged in his room at the MGM Grand Detroit hotel in May 2017, following a SOUNDGARDEN show at the city's Fox Theatre. His body was found soon after he had spoken with a "slurred" voice to his wife, Vicky Cornell, by phone. The death was ruled a suicide. But his family has questioned the medical examiner's ruling, saying that he had a prescription for Ativan and that a higher than recommended dosage may have caused him to experience suicidal thoughts. 1

THE HELLACOPTERS Announce 'Eyes Of Oblivion' Album, Drop 'Reap A Hurricane' Music VideoSwedish high-energy rock and rollers THE HELLACOPTERS will release a new studio album, "Eyes Of Oblivion", on April 1, 2022 via Nuclear Blast. It will mark their first full-length collection of new material since 2008's "Head Off".
THE HELLACOPTERS guitarist/vocalist Nicke Andersson states: "The album has 10 songs, and although it's obviously not easy to be objective at all, I think musically it sums up everything we've touched upon from the start in 1994 up until now. Some of the songs date back as far as 10 years or more, and some were written more recently. It's rock and roll played with high energy, so for lack of a better term, I say high-energy rock and roll. You could say it sounds like THE BEATLES meets JUDAS PRIEST or LYNYRD SKYNYRD meets the RAMONES but the best way to describe this album is that it sounds like THE HELLACOPTERS today."
To celebrate the kick-off of this new chapter for THE HELLACOPTERS, the Swedes are sharing with you a band new single, the anthemic album opener "Reap A Hurricane". The song presents itself as a potential future fan-favourite with all of the juicy riffs and in-your-face swagger you could've possibly hoped for, topped off with a captivating chorus that won't leave your head any time soon.
"Reap A Hurricane" continues the good old HELLACOPTERS tradition of releasing physical seven-inch singles in each album cycle. The seven-inch vinyl of "Reap A Hurricane" will be released on February 4, 2022, and it features an exclusive song called "Done Fighting" as a B-side. The seven-inch is available in two different color variants, red and green, which applies to both the vinyl and the respective cover.
THE HELLACOPTERS were formed in 1994 by ENTOMBED drummer Andersson and BACKYARD BABIES guitarist Dregen.
THE HELLACOPTERS' second album, 1997's "Payin' The Dues", was the band's last studio effort to feature Dregen before his departure to focus full-time on BACKYARD BABIES.
In October 2007, THE HELLACOPTERS announced that they would be breaking up after the release of their seventh full-length album, "Head Off", a collection of cover songs. Eight years later, the band reunited, initially for an exclusive performance at the Sweden Rock Festival to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of their debut album, "Supershitty To The Max!"
Robert "Strängen" Dahlqvist, who played guitar for THE HELLACOPTERS for nearly a decade, died in February 2017 at the age of 40.
Dahlqvist was a member of THE HELLACOPTERS from 1999 until the group disbanded in 2008.
THE HELLACOPTERS achieved two gold certifications, won the Swedish Grammy equivalent and a Kerrang! award, and have amassed 100 million streams to date. 3

Canadian Thrashers HYPERIA Post New Music Video “Operation Midnight”Canadian thrashers Hyperia, formerly of Calgary, AB, now residing in Vancouver, BC will be self-releasing their new album, Silhouettes Of Horrorm in March 2022. The full-length follows 2020's Insanitorium (Sliptrick Records) and their 2019 EP, Fish Creek Frenzy.
Silhouettes Of Horror sees guitarist Colin Ryley behind the soundboard, producing and mixing the record, with mastering done by Mika Jussila at Finnvox Studios in Helsinki, Finland (Children Of Bodom, Nightwish, Battle Beast). Album artwork was created by Andrei Bouzikov (Municipal Waste, Skeletonwitch, Toxic Holocaust).
“We think that we have polished our sound and pushed ourselves to create what we believe is a newly refined vision. This record has pushed the whole band to their limits, and the songwriting, performance, and the production value is a huge step up. We feel the fans will enjoy this new album even more than our first full-length,” adds guitarist Colin Ryley.
The band even included a cover of Abba's “Gimme Gimme Gimme”. For the recording of Silhouettes Of Horror, Hyperia also recruited good friend and session drummer Gord Alexander (Tessitura, Tides Of Kharon, Immunize).
Most of the lyrical themes on Silhouettes Of Horror revolve around inhumane government experiments, sleep disorders, and night terrors.
In the lead-up to the release of Silhouettes Of Horror, Hyperia is sharing their new music video for the first single “Operation Midnight”, a hard-hitting track with melodic vocal lines and sporadic guitar riffs. It's a catchy and memorable song that portrays what the whole new album is about.
“'Operation Midnight' was a song that we wanted to be fast, punchy, and hard-hitting the whole way through. It's accompanied by a music video filmed by City Zero Films that was shot a few hours northeast of Vancouver in a secluded foresty area. It's a good song to set the pace of the album, lyrically and musically. The lyrics focus around nightmarish hallucinations and terrors; seeing black hooded figures at the side of your bed. It has melodic and heavy parts that showcase the diversity of our new album,” the band comments.
Silhouettes Of Horror is due out on March 18, 2022 and is recommended for fans of Exmortus, Arch Enemy, Unleash The Archers, and Havok.
Tracklisting:
"Hypnagogia"
"Intoxication Therapy"

Spain's INTOLERANCE Sign With Memento Mori, Prepare Debut AlbumIn their endless quest to push and support current underground acts that perpetuate the odor of vintage death metal, Memento Mori has announced a new signing: Intolerance, from Spain.
The death metal mongrels, collectively known as Intolerance, hail from Zaragoza, the same city that Ataraxy are natives of. Spawned back in 2015, this quartet's intent is to pay homage to timeless death metal and the fetid stench that exuded from the malicious tones of the bands that populated the scene and helped define the genre back in the late '80s and the early '90s. Nothing fancy or wimpy here: only demise and putrefaction to be found when you creep in Intolerance's mortuary. The band's sound is recommended for fans of Bolt Thrower, Grave, Asphyx, Morgoth, Entombed, Convulse, Obituary, and Unleashed.
Intolerance's debut full-length is due out on July 25, 2022. Memento Mori will release the CD version, Fucking Kill Records will take care of the LP version, and Godz Ov War Productions will put out the tape version. Further details to follow in the coming months. For more info, visit Intolerance on Facebook.

SATAN Release New Music Video "Into The Mouth Of Eternity"Satan are gifting their fans a little Christmas present with their first fantastic video for the fan-favorite "Into The Mouth Of Eternity", taken from their 2018 album Cruel Magic.
"Originally planned for a spring 2020 release to coincide with our US tour to support our album Cruel Magic, this along with many other plans were obviously sidelined. It's been a long wait, but finally we would now like to officially present our music video for the track 'Into The Mouth of Eternity'," states the band.
Cruel Magic, Satan's fifth full-length album, stands as "a personification of injustice in our world," the band exclaims. "Anyone who knows us, knows we never sing about the Devil, except in the most abstract terms. But, generally bad things that happen in the world, real or imagined, and injustice in particular, has always been a big part of what drives us to write lyrics."
The band is currently working on their next studio album, slated for a spring 2022 release.

GLASSING Drop Official Live Video For "Doppler"Last month saw the release of Glassing's third studio album, Twin Dream. Today, the band premiere their live video for the song "Doppler" from the record. The new video was directed by Jonny Underwood and filmed at the band's album release show in Austin, TX at Hotel Vegas.
Speaking on the live video, the band shares: "There was a lot of premeditation and meticulousness for most of the tracks on Twin Dream. For what it's worth, 'Doppler' was not one of them. It was our intention that it should be crude and unpolished."
They go on to add, "It seemed fitting that 'Doppler's' makeshift structure gave rise to the lyrical content being about the remorselessness of death. Maybe untimely, maybe undeserved, it cannot be changed and is primal in nature. The repeated line 'like a jewel in a bed of fog' alludes to our period of usefulness being smothered behind a veil of expiration."
Twin Dream, available via Brutal Panda Records, was recorded with Andrew Hernandez (This Will Destroy You, Balmorhea, The Sword, Mammoth Grinder) in a remote Texas studio replete with crumbling infrastructure and the ghosts of country troubadours echoing amongst the walls.
Elements of post-hardcore, black metal, noise rock, ambient, shoegaze, and doom swirl together to create a rich palette of mood and textures across 11 tracks that ruminate on splintered realities, altered consciousness, and esoteric philosophy. While the world burned on the outside, the music took on an entirely new meaning and those that survived the nightmare were left with a newfound sense of hope amongst the bleak reality. Twin Dream is the archetypal soundtrack to these end of times.

Former FLYLEAF Singer LACEY STURM Releases Music Video For New Single 'Awaken Love'Former FLYLEAF singer Lacey Sturm has released the official music video for her latest single, "Awaken Love". The song is now available on all major streaming platforms.
Both atmospheric and intimate, "Awaken Love" is a string-driven ballad that Lacey co-wrote with SKILLET's Korey Cooper. The song explores what it feels like to be immersed in the transcendent experience of perfect love.
"With lyrics, I go into a place where I try to hear what the song is about. I have to learn. The music tells you," Lacey recalls about the writing process. "Sometimes there are lyrics that stir that up, and Korey already had some of that written."
The song developed into a sweeping chorus and vivid verses, with Lacey's fervent vocals declaring, "My racing heart so safe with you, they can't take me away from you."
While the instrumentation marries rock riffs with cinematic musical scope, "Awaken Love" invites the listener into wonder over the ways they've experienced unexplainable love.
"Romance is a shadow of the divine," the singer concludes. "The shadow boxing of romance is really coming from the divine dance of God and humanity."
"Awaken Love" follows the previously released "The Decree" and "State Of Me". Together, the three songs showcase Sturm's consistently expanding sound. Working closely with her husband and guitarist Josh Sturm to break new musical ground, Lacey continues to solidify her role as one of the most iconic voices in hard rock.
Performing live with SKILLET before the pandemic shut down arena tours, Lacey has since been writing new music and finding creative ways to connect with fans. Singing on BREAKING BENJAMIN's 2020 single "Dear Agony (Aurora Version)", which peaked at No. 13 on the Billboard 200 after 20 weeks on the chart while racking up well over 16 million views on YouTube alone, Lacey has also performed with SHINEDOWN and others on drive-in theater stages and has hit virtual stages along with METALLICA, THREE DAYS GRACE, SEETHER and others during the Recording Academy-sponsored Octane Home Invasion festival.
Sturm left FLYLEAF in October 2012. She was replaced by Kristen May, who recorded one album with the group, 2014's "Between The Stars", before exiting.

ZZ TOP's BILLY GIBBONS Joined By MATT SORUM, GILBY CLARKE, JOE BONAMASSA, Others At 72nd-Birthday Bash: Video, PhotosFormer GUNS N' ROSES members Matt Sorum and Gilby Clarke, along with blues rock guitarist Joe Bonamassa, were among the guests who performed with Billy Gibbons at the ZZ TOP frontman's 72nd-birthday bash last night (Thursday, December 16) at The Troubadour in West Hollywood, California. Fan-filmed video footage of the concert can be seen below.
Gibbons is an American musician, producer and actor, best known as the guitarist of the American rock band ZZ TOP. Gibbons formed ZZ TOP in late 1969 and released ZZ TOP's first album in 1971. The albums that followed, "Rio Grande Mud" (1972) and "Tres Hombres" (1973), along with extensive touring, solidified the group's reputation as a hard-rocking power trio. In the 1980s, ZZ TOP released its three biggest-selling albums: "Eliminator" (1983), "Afterburner" (1985) and "Recycler" (1990). A wave of music videos for the hit singles "Legs", "Gimme All Your Lovin'", and "Sharp Dressed Man", among others, became mainstays on MTV. Gibbons was ranked at No. 32 on the 2011 Rolling Stone list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists Of All Time." ZZ TOP was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2004.
Apart from his five decades-long role fronting ZZ TOP, Gibbons has in recent years recorded three much-lauded solo albums for Concord Records, including "Hardware", released this past June. To cap off the year, Concord released a singular single, "Jingle Bell Blues", in November. It's Billy's reworking of the eternal "Jingle Bells" with some significant modifications or "Kustom" touches.
The follow-up to Gibbons's 2018 solo LP "The Big Bad Blues", "Hardware"'s title is an homage to Joe Hardy, the longtime ZZ TOP collaborator who died in 2019. The album was recorded in a desert studio in Palm Springs, California.

Watch Original AC/DC Singer DAVE EVANS Perform 'Highway To Hell' In CaliforniaMulti-camera video of original AC/DC singer Dave Evans performing the band's classic song "Highway To Hell" on October 22 at Leonardo's in Huntington Park, California can be seen below (video editing by Joe Dolan).
As previously reported, Evans recently recorded two new songs with legendary producer Flemming Rasmussen, best known for having been helmed three of METALLICA's early albums, plus winning a Grammy for his work on METALLICA's "One" in 1989. One of the songs, "Guitarman", was written by Danish musician and composer Nicholas Hill, while the second track is a cover of an Elvis Presley classic that Evans had previously performed with AC/DC.
The new Evans recordings, which were made through a collaboration betwen Chrystal Records Argentina and Space Rock Productions Denmark, will be released in the next few months.
Dave recorded AC/DC's first two singles, "Can I Sit Next To You Girl" and "Baby, Please Don't Go". But in October 1974, less than a year after AC/DC's first gig, Evans was out of the band. He was replaced by Bon Scott, who sang on AC/DC's first six studio albums and became a legend himself after his death in 1980.
Earlier this year, Dave was asked in an interview with The Rocker Diaries if he thought "that would be it" for AC/DC after Bon's death in 1980. He responded: "No, not at all. I mean, we all keep going. And AC/DC has had that many players through [the history of] the band. I don't know how many. 20? And three singers, plus a stand-in singer as well.
"We were always ambitious when we first started," he continued. "We always wanted to be the best in the world — all of us. And after me, Bon Scott got his chance. He did great with the band. And when he died, I just thought, 'Who are they gonna get?' I never thought [I would be approached about it] myself, because that's water under the bridge. And I was busy with bands as well at the time, and doing my own music and recording. I was just wondering who it would be. I had heard of [Brian Johnson's pre-AC/DC band] GEORDIE — just the name GEORDIE. I'd never heard of Brian. And then Brian popped up and, of course, the 'Back In Black' album came out, which was a massive album around the world, and they were off and running with Brian. But if Brian quit, they'd get another singer, and another singer. [They've gone through] different bass players [and] different drummers.
"The drive was always Malcolm Young," Dave added. "I remember Malcolm when I first met him. He was such a driving force. Just a tiny little guy — just a little touch over five foot tall — but, boy, he had a big heart and a big personality. And he was tough, too — Malcolm was very tough. And no matter what, he was AC/DC through and through. And, of course, once he passed away, which is very sad, AC/DC, of course, will never, ever be the same without Malcolm. How can it be?"
This past May, Evans released a new compilation album called "BADASS Greatest Hits". The effort contains "20 massive hits on one album," including Dave's version of "Rockin' In The Parlour", the song that originally appeared as the B-side of the "Can I Sit Next to You Girl" single. 7

KISS's PAUL STANLEY Undergoes Shoulder SurgeryKISS frontman Paul Stanley underwent a shoulder surgery this past Tuesday (December 14).
Several hours after the procedure, the vocalist/guitarist, who will turn 70 next month, took to his Twitter to share a post-op photo of himself resting at home, and he included the following message: "SHOULDER SURGERY TODAY! How many show related surgeries have I had?? I lost count at EIGHT!! Was it worth it?!? ABSOLUTELY! Judge the value of what of you have by what you sacrificed to achieve that goal. This was a joy-filled BARGAIN."
This past May, Stanley spoke to SiriusXM's "Jim & Sam Video Interviews" about how his stage performances have damaged his body. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "Both my rotator cuffs have been repaired. I popped my bicep tendon about a year and a half ago and that had to be surgically repaired. I've torn the cartilage in both my knees, and that's been taken care of. I've had a hip replacement. But modern medicine and science, God bless it. I'm good for another 50 thousand miles."
Stanley confirmed that KISS-related activities are to blame for his physical injuries over the years.
"Most of my doctor friends, my orthopedic surgeons say, 'There's no 60-year-old, there's no 50-year-old basketball players, football players, and you're up there on stage running around with 40 pounds of gear, running back and forth and jumping up in the air, and your body will betray you at some point,'" he explained.
In a 2013 interview with the Los Angeles Times, Stanley said that performing live with KISS was "like doing a triathlon with a guitar around my neck. You have to jump, sing, swing your arm and play the right chord. With that combination, anything can go wrong. I used to jump up in the air and land on my knees. It didn't hurt then, but it does now."
Stanley reiterated those sentiments in a 2014 interview with The New York Times. He said: "Things that didn't hurt me 40 years ago hurt me today. From 40 years ago. I've had both my rotator cups repaired, my knees. I've had a hip replacement. But I'm doing splits and everything on stage. I'm blessed. Every time I go out on stage, it is exhilarating."
Stanley, who had his first hip replacement at age 52, told U.K.'s Independent that he had no regrets about the nightly strutting in his eight-inch heels. "Every scar on my body was proudly earned," he said. "There's nothing worse than looking back and wishing you had done things, but I did 'em all. That's how life is supposed to be lived."
Stanley, who grew up half-deaf and scarred with a deformed right ear, eventually had reconstructive surgery in 1982 to create an ear using a piece of his rib cage.

SION Feat. Ex-KILLSWITCH ENGAGE Singer HOWARD JONES And YouTube Guitar Sensation JARED DINES: 'Inside The Hollow' Music VideoSION, the new project featuring former KILLSWITCH ENGAGE singer Howard Jones and modern guitar virtuoso/content creator Jared Dines, has released the official music video for the song "Inside The Hollow". The track is the fourth single from SION's self-titled debut album, which came out at the end of November. The 12-song effort was "almost two years in the making" and "was funded independently out of Jared and Howard's own pockets," according to a statement released by the group.
"Sion" track listing:
01. The Blade (03:39)
02. Drown (04:13)
03. More Than Just Myself (03:30)
04. The Worst Way (03:18)
05. Buried Alive And Wide Awake (03:50)
06. Skyfall (03:58)
07. Endless War (03:06)
08. A Constant Reminder (03:57)
09. Something To Live For (04:10)
10. Great Deceiver (03:50)
11. Dying Of The Light (03:25)
12. Inside The Hollow (03:49)
Speaking about how their collaboration came about, Dines told Rock Feed: "Way back [in] 2018 was the TRIVIUM tour that I filled in for that Howard was on with his band LIGHT THE TORCH. And, of course, we met and we talked and we just kind of randomly started talking [about working together]. I think Howard mentioned, 'Down the road, let's maybe talk about doing something.' And, of course, I was, like, 'Yeah, that sounds awesome.' So that's kind of where it started. And then maybe just until [early 2020], I think [he] reached out and had said that [he] had some free time, and I had some free time, so we figured why not start now and start writing some songs. So that's kind of how it started. It was just very casual, and it's just been that way — very natural, and not, like, [with] any type of real plan."
Regarding SION's musical direction, Dines said: "I think there's a lot of natural influence I have from bands like KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, AS I LAY DYING, et cetera, et cetera, because that's the era I grew up on, so that's kind of imprinted into my playing as it is. So it's very natural for me just to flow out these very, you could call it KILLSWITCH ENGAGE-sounding songs, but that's not the intent, what we were going for. But, yeah, they're going to sound, when you hear them, of course, because of Howard and because of my influence and my style, they will be similar to that sound — just naturally. [KILLSWITCH ENGAGE's third album, 2004's] 'The End Of Heartache', of course, for me, was my favorite and what influenced me the most, so I would say it's probably gonna sound more like that, as far as instrumentally. And whatever Howard wants to do with it, it's gonna sound like Howard. It's gonna sound like me and Howard, whatever that sounds like."
Jones left KILLSWITCH ENGAGE in 2012 and battled manic depression and bipolar disorder before forming a new project, DEVIL YOU KNOW, with guitarist Francesco Artusato (ALL SHALL PERISH) and drummer John Sankey (DEVOLVED). Along with bassist Ryan Wombacher (BLEEDING THROUGH), they recorded and toured behind two well-received albums, 2014's "The Beauty Of Destruction" and 2015's "They Bleed Red". In 2017, the band changed its name to LIGHT THE TORCH following a bitter dispute with Sankey, a part owner of the name.
Asked what made him get back into music after leaving KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, Howard told Heavy New York: "Honestly, I think it was because I was just kind of tired of doing nothing and I don't do much else other than music. I felt like I needed to venture out because I was basically agoraphobic for three years. It's kind of well known. I went off the grid. I didn't have a cell phone for three years — I was gone. It felt, like, 'Okay, maybe I should dip my toe in. I don't have to do it full time. I don't have to do what I don't want to do.' That's all I was thinking. I started moving, I started doing things. It was definitely a struggle, especially for the first few years. I was, like, 'What am I doing?' There's been few things in my life that has been consistent other than music. I just did it. It just took some time, then all of the sudden, the spark showed up. I fell back in love with what I was doing. I really can't explain it. It just sort of happened."
In a 2014 interview with Fishing World, Jones stated about his musical influences: "Well, just about anything I can listen to. AC/DC and KISS were the first bands that introduced me to heavy music. After that, I just absorbed anything I could get my hands on. Some favourites are FAITH NO MORE, HIM, ALICE IN CHAINS, PORTISHEAD ... My taste is kind of all over the place."
Jones makes an appearance on KILLSWITCH ENGAGE's latest album, "Atonement", contributing guest vocals to the song "The Signal Fire".
Dines has redefined the very idea of a guitar hero online. His YouTube channel boasts a staggering 2.92 million subscribers and more than 700 million views. He also has collaborated with everyone from Post Malone to BREAKING BENJAMIN. His recorded output includes "Rest", "Repose", "Daddy Rock" and "Dissimilator", to name a few. He made history as "the first YouTuber" to grace the cover of Guitar World magazine. Meanwhile, he teamed up with Music Man for a signature Stingray guitar.

IRON MAIDEN Doesn't Think About Fans' Expectations While Writing New MusicIn a new interview with Consequence, IRON MAIDEN drummer Nicko McBrain was asked now he and his bandmates balance MAIDEN's creative vision with the lofty expectations of fans. He responded: "Of course, we've got the best fans in the world. We got the best critics, and we got some of the most stupid critics in the world, as well. [But] I've gotta be honest, we're a very selfish, motivated band. We love our fans. When we go out on tour, that's when we think of you guys: What do you wanna see? But it's not the main motivation. Because if you get lost in that world… 'What do you think all these fans wanna see?'… You're gonna have different fans and attitudes around different parts of the world. You're all one big family, but say South America… they might want to hear certain older songs or whatever. But from an album standpoint, when we go in the studio, I'm sorry, none of you lot out there are even thought one millisecond about. Please don't get offended, any of you lot out there. We just write what we — at that time in that studio, in that circle of the sun, if you like, where we are in that time of our lives — come up with. There's a lot of pressure on the writers, but we all tend to be able to suck that pressure in. Like an atomic bomb, we've got this nucleus, then we explode within the song. Once the song is written, that's where MAIDEN come alive and we make it ours."
Nicko added: "The fans, we really think about you guys primarily when we're putting tours together and the visual aspect of it. But we are really very selfish. We do it for ourselves really. And we pretty much know what you like, so that's where you guys come into it."
MAIDEN singer Bruce Dickinson previously touched upon fans' expectations in a 2017 interview with Fortune while discussing the importance of playing new songs live. He stated at the time: "If you take advantage of them [fans], as in you serve up the same old thing every single tour, you can expect some of them to walk away. That is just a band becoming a karaoke band. If you're not doing new music, why bother? We don't share the idea that going and doing stadiums, playing 30-year-old songs, is a success. It's just making money."
When asked about the fans who want them to play only the classic 1980s songs, he said: "That's tough. In that case, don't come."
In a 2016 interview with The Music, IRON MAIDEN bassist Steve Harris admitted that songs from the band's then-latest album, "The Book Of Souls", weren't going over as well as MAIDEN's earlier material. "It's like any new tour with new songs; you're not going to get the reaction that the old stuff gets," he said. "It's just always like that when you're playing new stuff. Maybe one day a couple of them songs will be regarded as a massive part of the set, once people know them more. But I think it's really important to push your new stuff; it keeps things fresh."
"Senjutsu", IRON MAIDEN's first album in six years, came out in September. It was recorded in 2019 in Paris with longstanding producer Kevin Shirley and co-produced by Harris.
For "Senjutsu" — loosely translated as "tactics and strategy" — the band once again enlisted the services of Mark Wilkinson to create the spectacular Samurai-themed cover artwork, based on an idea by Harris.
"Senjutsu" bowed at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart, charting higher than even the band's early classics like "Powerslave" and "The Number Of The Beast". Nearly 90 percent of the LP's 64,000 equivalent album units earned came from pure album sales. The critically acclaimed double album debuted one place higher than 2015's "The Book Of Souls" and 2010's "The Final Frontier", which both peaked at No. 4.
"Senjutsu" was MAIDEN's 13th album to top in the Top 40 in the U.S.
MAIDEN's first two Paul Di'Anno-era albums, "Iron Maiden" (1980) and "Killers" (1981), as well as with those recorded with singer Blaze Bayley, "The X Factor" (1995) and "Virtual XI" (1998), all failed to dent the Top 40 in the U.S.
According to Billboard, "Senjutsu" logged the second-largest week of 2021 for a hard rock album in both equivalent album units earned and in traditional album sales. It trailed only FOO FIGHTERS' "Medicine At Midnight", which debuted on the Feb. 20 chart with 70,000 units (of which 64,000 were in album sales).
"Senjutsu" topped the charts in several European countries upon its release, including in Belgium, Finland, Germany, Italy, Sweden and Switzerl 13
