THE TANGENT Announce Upcoming Release Of Pyramids, Stars & Other Stories: THE TANGENT Live Recordings 2004-2017; "A Crisis In Mid Life" Live Video Posted

THE TANGENT Announce Upcoming Release Of Pyramids, Stars & Other Stories: THE TANGENT Live Recordings 2004-2017; "A Crisis In Mid Life" Live Video Posted

The Tangent have announced the release of Pyramids, Stars & Other Stories: The Tangent Live Recordings 2004-2017, on January 27 via InsideOutMusic. Collecting together tracks from three lineups of The Tangent, this 2CD & 3LP album collects together show recordings from 2004, 2011 & 2017.

Band leader Andy Tillison comments: "A Triple Live LP is the stuff of Bucket Lists, dreamed of doing one of these since I was a kid."

Watch the band performing "A Crisis In Mid Life" live in the UK in 2012, featuring the lineup of Andy Tillison, Luke Machin, Dan Mash & Tony ‘Funkytoe’ Latham, below.

The album will be available as a 2CD Digipak, a Gatefold 3LP+2CD & LP-booklet, as well as digitally worldwide. Pre-order here.

Included in its entirety is the 2004 Pyramids And Stars concert in Germany featuring the “Roine Stolt" lineup of The Tangent playing its way through the majority of the debut Music That Died Alone album along with (then) new material from their second album The World That We Drive Through.

Added to that, there are tracks from the COMM era lineup of the band at a concert in the UK - plus music recorded in the USA in 2017 by the band's current lineup. These originally appeared on the Southend On Sea and Hotel Cantaffordit’fan releases respectively.

All is presented inside a re-imagined Ed Unitsky sleeve, to create a package that fans are sure to love.

"This is a real, proper, live album" says Tillison. "It's candid, it's spontaneous, it has mistakes and things that are a bit too loud and things that are a bit too quiet. It's what happened on stage at three gigs at which "making a live album" never crossed our minds."

THEORY OF A DEADMAN Announces 'Dinosaur' Album, Shares 'Ambulance' Visualizer

THEORY OF A DEADMAN Announces 'Dinosaur' Album, Shares 'Ambulance' Visualizer

Multi-platinum rock band THEORY OF A DEADMAN has released the official visualizer for "Ambulance", the latest single from its upcoming album "Dinosaur", available everywhere March 17 via Roadrunner.

"Dinosaur" track listing:

01. Dinosaur
02. Medusa (Stone)
03. Sick
04. Two Of Us (Stuck)
05. Ambulance
06. Sideways
07. Get In Line
08. Head In The Clouds
09. Hearts Too Wild
10. Summer Song

The release of the "Dinosaur" title track in October marked the chart-topping quartet's first taste of new music since 2020's acclaimed album "Say Nothing" and a return to form stylistically. The hard-hitting, riff-heavy track was produced by Martin Terefe (Jason Mraz, YUNGBLUD) and was featured on various rock playlists across DSPs, including Spotify's Rock Rotation and Top Of The Rock, Apple Music's The New Rock and Breaking Rock, and Amazon Music's Rock Arena and Fresh Rock.

"'Dinosaur' takes us back to our roots with this riff-driven rocker," Connolly previously said. "To me, it feels like it could fit on any of our albums, but I will say if you like the old THEORY OF A DEADMAN, you'll love the new THEORY OF A DEADMAN."

"Rock is where we made our bed for all these years," added guitarist Dave Brenner. "It's been a while since we had an up-tempo in-your-face track like this — and it felt good."

With sky-high hooks, riffs as thick as a 2x4, rumbling grooves, and a razor-sharp sense of humor, THEORY OF A DEADMAN — Tyler Connolly (lead vocals, guitar),Dave Brenner (guitar, backing vocals),Dean Back (bass),and Joey Dandeneau (drums, backing vocals) — have quietly persisted as an unapologetic, unbreakable, and undeniable hard rock force with major multi-platinum hits and countless sold-out shows in each of the past two decades. Jamming together in basements throughout high school, the band burst out of their small hometown of North Delta, British Columbia with the self-titled "Theory Of A Deadman" during 2002. In addition to the double-platinum breakthrough album "Scars & Souvenirs" (2008) and gold-certified "The Truth Is…" (2011),THEORY OF A DEADMAN have notched a procession of hits, including the gold-certified "All Or Nothing", "Bitch Came Back" and "Lowlife", platinum-certified "Angel", "Hate My Life" and "Not Meant To Be", double-platinum "Bad Girlfriend" and triple-platinum "RX (Medicate)". As the biggest smash of their career thus far, the latter hit, off their 2017 album "Wake Up Call", marked their third No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and garnered a nomination for "Rock Song Of The Year" at the iHeartRadio Music Awards. Their impressive catalogue has also logged two Top 10 debuts on the Billboard 200 and amassed more than one billion collective streams on Spotify alone and over 675 million views on their official YouTube. In 2020, the award-winning band's seventh studio album, "Say Nothing", landed at No. 2 on the Billboard Alternative Albums chart and No. 3 on the Rock Albums chart. Plus, the album, featuring the chart-topping and powerful single "History Of Violence", earned praise from American Songwriter, Billboard, Alternative Press and Classic Rock magazine which awarded it four out of five stars.

POISON's RIKKI ROCKETT Is Nearly Seven Years Cancer Free: 'Thanks To God And Modern Medicine'

POISON's RIKKI ROCKETT Is Nearly Seven Years Cancer Free: 'Thanks To God And Modern Medicine'

POISON drummer Rikki Rockett says that he is still cancer free, almost eight years after he was diagnosed with oral cancer.

Rockett offered an update on his health status via his social media on Monday (January 9). He shared a photo of him with Ezra Cohen, a medical oncologist and associate director for Translational Science at Moores Cancer Center in La Jolla, California, and he included the following message: "Almost 7 years cancer free thanks to the best Dr. in the world, Ezra Cohen. Today is a good day!!! Thanks to God and modern medicine!"

Rockett was declared cancer free in July 2016 after undergoing experimental immunotherapy, which eradicated the tumor.

In June 2015, Rikki visited his primary care doctor with a sore throat. His doctor found a small tumor at the base of his tongue, and Rikki learned he had human papillomavirus (HPV)-related oral cancer. He endured nine rounds of chemotherapy and 37 sessions of radiation therapy. The tumor initially responded, but returned three months later, spreading to his lymph nodes. Rikki then saw Cohen at UCSD Moores Cancer Center, who helped him enroll in a clinical trial of pembrolizumab (Keytruda). Rikki's tumor responded immediately. Just over two months into the trial, a scan revealed that his tumor had shrunk over 90 precent.

In 2020, Rockett told "Trunk Nation" that he was afflicted with the same type of cancer as what IRON MAIDEN's Bruce Dickinson and MEGADETH's Dave Mustaine had.

"It was base of tongue with an associated lymph node, which is pretty common as far as head and neck cancers these days," he said. "HPV-related head and neck cancers usually are base of tongue. There's a few people that I've sort of mentored or helped out, and many of 'em are musicians. And HPV is pretty rampant — it really is. If you have a kid, get 'em inoculated."

Asked what his symptoms were, Rikki said: "I had a sore throat that wouldn't go away. That was the main thing. And then I had a lymph node that was kind of sticking out. First, they tried antibiotics, and they didn't work at all — they didn't even touch it. So it was, like, 'Okay, we need to do a biopsy. We're gonna go down and scope and take a look.' And there was a lump down there. Then, after a few weeks, it started to get hard to swallow, 'cause the lump was getting bigger — the tumor was getting bigger. So I went and did the typical treatment for it, which is chemo and radiation, and it did not work. And by the way, it's a fairly curable cancer, especially with HPV — there's a high percentage rate of success with it, of cure. But in my case, it didn't cure, so my options were a whole lot less. My doctor told me recently — he didn't tell me this before — but he told me recently that I had about a 10 percent chance if I would have went down the regular path. But we didn't — we used immunotherapy, and it put it in remission in about 10 weeks. When it works, it is amazing."

Rockett first revealed that his tongue cancer diagnosis was caused by HPV — the most common sexually transmitted infection — in a 2015 interview. He said: "It is the number one leading cause of oral cancer these days. There's less and less of the truck drivers that chew tobacco for thirty years getting it, because people are more aware that that kind of stuff isn't good. So we are getting marathon runners and all these elite athletes with this. I have a friend that's a therapist, and five years ago, it was five percent of the people she treated, and now it's close to ninety percent."

He continued: "It can be spread sexually, but now they're saying that it can spread [through] deep-kissing and actually hand to mouth. I mean, if you see the Olympic swimmers, they swim and they smack their hand on the side of the pool for each lap, and their hands are full of warts and stuff from HPV. Now the wart kind of HPV is not the same as the strain that causes cancer, but it is spread almost identically. For men, you can't tell if you have it. For women, you can get a papsmear. But the doctor estimated probably it was 15 [or] 20 years ago [when I contracted it], and my body probably got rid of it, but it mutated itself and my body would probably see that again and get rid of it. But there's no way to tell who got it. I mean, I know a couple that's been married for 15 years and they've never cheated on each other, and they're pointing their finger at each other [after one of them was diagnosed with oral cancer], and it turned into a thing until the doctor sat 'em down and went, 'Look, you can get this so many ways.'"

Last summer, POISON completed "The Stadium Tour" with DEF LEPPARD, MÖTLEY CRÜE and JOAN JETT & THE BLACKHEARTS. The 36-date trek was originally scheduled to take place in the summer of 2020 but ended up being pushed back to 2021, and then to 2022, due to the coronavirus crisis.

Almost 7 years cancer free thanks to the best Dr. in the world, Ezra Cohen. Today is a good day!!! Thanks to God and modern medicine!

Bassist BECKY BALDWIN On MERCYFUL FATE Audition - “KING DIAMOND Just Said Don’t Stand In Front Of Me When I’m Singing!”

Bassist BECKY BALDWIN On MERCYFUL FATE Audition - “KING DIAMOND Just Said Don’t Stand In Front Of Me When I’m Singing!”

When Joey Vera had to drop off the Mercfyful Fate tour due to other commitments, the band were forced to find a replacement, who ended up being Birmingham-based bassist Becky Baldwin, who fits the blackened, blasphemous position perfectly!

BraveWords had the opportunity to speak with her for an upcoming Streaming For Vengeance video interview which will air in the coming weeks.

As you will find out, guitarist Hank Shermann had seen some of her videos (see below) on YouTube and suggested her to the the band. She met with the legends for the first time at the Bloodstock festival in the UK this summer and that’s when she was offered the position. Remember, all this is in honour of late bassist Timi Hansen who passed in 2019. So we asked her two very important stylish questions. It’s one thing to cover the songs with perfection, but what are going to do on stage and maybe more importantly (!), what are you going to wear on stage?

“On what to wear, I actually had a conversation with King Diamond only a few days after I get offered me the job,” Baldwin explains. “He said that I could go anywhere I want on the stage, but just don’t stand in front of me when I’m singing. And that’s something I wouldn’t do anyway, blocking the view of the singer from the audience (laughs). He said that my style was really cool and very metal and that I tend to wear skirts and shorts. Lots of different things. And King said he’d prefer if I would just wear all black, maybe something like leather trousers. And I thought to myself, I’ve been waiting to really treat myself with a very nice pair of custom leather pants. So this is perfect. So I asked my friend Sophie (Turnbull) from Painkiller Clothing to make me a pair of fake leather trousers for the tour and she said ‘hell yes’! King just didn’t want me to wear anything too bright or over the top. And on stage, he just said I could go wherever I’d like. The first show I was more concerned about staying out of the way and watching where the rest of the band were going to go on stage. I just kept an eye out and I didn’t move around too much. As we went on, we kind of spoke a bit more about stage presence. We just tried to figure out what we could do to make it visually more interesting. And I finally figured out where I could go without being in somebody’s way. It would be really embarrassing to knock into somebody and send somebody flying across the stage (laughs).”

Becky Baldwin performed on Mercyful Fate’s fall North American tour and Mexico’s Hell & Heaven Festival and the BraveWords-sponsored Monterrey Metal Fest in early December.

As of this writing, Mercyful Fate has nothing formally planned for 2023 and no gigs are booked. “There is no set thing that’s going to happen,” Baldwin adds. “Mercyful Fate has a bass player in Joey Vera. They really want to stay with him, because he’s an amazing bass player. And he was approved by Timi before he passed. There are no changes on that front. Fans can be assured that there won’t be any drastic line-up changes. Anytime Joey is busy with his other bands, I’m hoping and pretty sure I’ll be their first call. You may see me show up with Mercyful Fate and King actually did say to me that if he needed a bass player ‘I’ll give you a call.’”

Watch for our interview with Becky Baldwin to air on BraveWords' Streaming For Vengeance in the coming days.

Exclusive: BRET MICHAELS On Passing Of JEFF BECK - "The Bittersweet Journey In Life Is Losing Some Incredible Musicians Along The Way"

Exclusive: BRET MICHAELS On Passing Of JEFF BECK - "The Bittersweet Journey In Life Is Losing Some Incredible Musicians Along The Way"

BraveWords just spoke to Poison singer Bret Michaels about his upcoming single, “Back In The Day” (slated for release on January 18), and the upcoming Party Gras tour. But he had some pretty strong feelings about the passing of guitar legend Jeff Beck, who died on Tuesday, January 10.

“Part of my instrumental guitar life was the album Wired,” Michaels says in a sombre tone. “It was just really a bummer moment to hear about Jeff Beck’s passing. I never had a chance to meet him. But I listend to the collaboration between Rod Stewart and Jeff Beck - “People Get Ready”. For me, I’m a song guy and when you listen to that guitar - I’m getting a chill right now, I literally have a chill running up and down my arm - when you listen to that guitar in that song, ‘There's a train a-coming…’ I’m glad that I’m a rocker that’s going through the ageing process, because what is my option? You’re either ageing and experiencing or you’re dead. There’s no other way to put that. I’d love to put it nicer than that, but there’s no other way. You are either ageing or the alternative. I’ve accepted the fact, let’s call it the experienced process. Life experience. I’m grateful for it. Also at the same time, it’s the bittersweet journey in life is losing some incredible musicians along the way."

BraveWords' Streaming For Vengeance interview with Bret Michaels will air next week.

GENESIS - BBC Broadcasts CD / Vinyl Collection Featuring Unreleased Material To Be Released In March; Now Available For Pre-Order

GENESIS - BBC Broadcasts CD / Vinyl Collection Featuring Unreleased Material To Be Released In March; Now Available For Pre-Order

Genesis BBC Broadcasts is an extensive collection of broadcast material from one of the biggest selling recording artists of all time, and one of Britain's most internationally renowned bands. Curated by founding member Tony Banks and the group’s long-time engineer and producer Nick Davis, it is available as a 53-track 5-CD set and 24-track triple LP.

Due to be released on March 3rd, 2023, this is the first time all of these tracks have been released on vinyl and the first time a majority of the iconic 1987 Wembley show have been made available in an audio only format (further details below). All formats are available for pre-order now at this location.

These collections represent the cream of the group’s work recorded by the BBC between 1970 and 1998, and it includes contributions from all three of the group’s vocalists, Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins and Ray Wilson. With notes by author Michael Hann, and packaged with a 40-page booklet, BBC Broadcasts contains favourites such as "Home By The Sea", "Mama", "Duchess", "Carpet Crawlers", "No Son Of Mine", "Turn It On Again", and many more.

With only a handful of these tracks previously officially available, Genesis BBC Broadcasts acts as both a collector’s cornucopia and an alternative “greatest hits”. Stretching from the very beginnings of the band’s career via appearances on ‘Night Ride’ and John Peel, the set encompasses both of the group’s Knebworth performances (78 and 92) as well as their much-loved 1980 show at London’s Lyceum, and triumphant sell-out run of shows at Wembley in 1987.

Rounded out by material from the NEC in 1998 and Paris Theatre and Nightride sessions from the early 70s, as well as the much sought-after encore version of "Watcher Of The Skies" at Wembley Empire Pool in 1975, Genesis ‘BBC Broadcasts’ is a veritable treasure trove.

Genesis are one of the world’s biggest selling and most successful bands of all time. They have sold an estimated 100 million albums and have played to sold-out stadiums and arenas all over the world for decades, most recently with their global sold-out Last Domino? Tour which concluded with a three-night run at London’s O2 Arena on 22 March 2022.

The evolution of Genesis is unique, their sound developed and progressed throughout their career and with multiple line-up alterations in the early years, the classic line-up of Tony Banks, Phil Collins and Mike Rutherford took shape in 1976.

Finland's ADMIRE THE GRIM Release Rogue Five Debut EP

Finland's ADMIRE THE GRIM Release Rogue Five Debut EP

Finnish melodic death metal band Admire The Grim have released their debut EP, Rogue Five, via Inverse Records. They have released their first single, "Rogue Five"; check out the official video below.

The band comments on making of the EP

"After our first single release in the spring of 2022 we soon started rehearsing on our debut EP to be ready for the studio recordings. We recorded everything in the summer of 2022 in our beautiful hometown, Lappeenranta, and we also filmed our first music video for the title track that summer. A lot of our friends participated in the making of the music video and some of them joined us in the studio to record gang shouts as well. In other words, the entire process went smoothly in good company and the energy was high! In our opinion we managed to capture that vibe for the record itself and we are very pleased about how it turned out. Huge thanks go to our friends, Saku Moilanen, Onni Lappalainen, Mikko Tirkkonen and Inverse Records for making it such a smooth sail."

Purchase or stream Rogue Five here.

Tracklist:

"The Flood"
"Mad Queen of the Second Sun"
"Admire The Grim"
"Rogue Five"

The band comments on the beginnings of the group:

"In the turn of 2020-2021, childhood friends Jani (guitar) and Kalle (bass) started to write songs and plan putting a band together. They asked friends to join and soon Sirja (guitar) and Tommi (drums) jumped in. Lastly, Katri (vocals) found her way to the group and the band was complete.

After some get togethers and song writing sessions started relentless rehearsing (not forgetting the parties at Kalle's house ofc). We all had very different backgrounds in both music and life, which eventually somehow proved to be a fully functional chaos. The soundscape of our music bases heavily on '90s and '00s melodic death metal, but each of us have thrown in our individual musical backgrounds in search of the band's sound. We feel like we've developed so much in just over a year and still (and forever) progressing."

Line-up:

Katri Snellman - vocals
Jani Loikkanen - guitar
Sirja Ojaniemi - guitar
Kalle Raatikainen - bass
Tommi Vante - drums

THE ANSWER Release New Single "Want You To Love Me"

THE ANSWER Release New Single "Want You To Love Me"

Northern Irish rockers The Answer follow their storming comeback show at this year’s Planet Rock Festival with the release of a second digital track on January 13th, 2023, titled "Want You To Love Me". The new track is taken from their forthcoming album Sundowners, released on March 17th, 2023.

"Want You To Love Me", produced and mixed by rising British rock producer Dan Weller (Enter Shikari, Bury Tomorrow) showcases the band with a driving, grungy and raw sound, in keeping with the new direction of the album.

Says  lead singer Cormac Neeson, “When a friend asks me to give them a sneak peak of what this new album of ours sounds like… the first song I play them is 'Want You To Love Me'. I just sit back and watch their heads start to bob up and down. This song is what we’re all about right now… dirty blues rock that hopefully makes you feel pretty damn good! The video captures the uncompromising energy of the song perfectly. I watched it ten times when it came through to my inbox. It looks even better with a whisky in your hand too. Watch responsibly.”

After a lengthy seven-year hiatus, Northern Irish rockers The Answer are set to make a spectacular and long-awaited return with a brand-new studio album, Sudowners, scheduled for release on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 2023.

The album was recorded in April 2023 at Middlefarm studios, Devon and was the first time the band had been together in a studio since 2015.

Says lead singer Cormac Neeson, “We’ve been through a lot as a band, toured the world, made six great records we’re all proud of, and always done our best to make honest and timeless music that connects with rock and music fans in general. After six albums and a lot of road miles we felt we needed to step back from it all and reset. Whilst that wasn’t an easy decision, with retrospect it’s possibly the best decision we’ve ever made because after seven years away we all came back fired up and the end result is an album we’ve been waiting to make our whole lives…full of good time rock n roll and positive energy created by four brothers who quite frankly just really missed each other. We’re back and we’re ready to bring our best album ever to you!”

In 2019, long time super fan and international independent hard rock label Golden Robot Records founder, Mark Alexander-Erber, fulfilled a life-long ambition by signing The Answer to his label to secure a brand new 7th studio album, due for release in 2023; a record which, in the words of Alexander-Erber will be The Answer’s “greatest balls out straight ahead rock album ever’, eclipsing the debut of Rise for power, songs and sheer attitude. To say I am excited is an understatement, for me it’s a life-long ambition and privilege to work with these guys.”

The album will come in several formats including a CD Gatefold Digi sleeve, Gatefold 12” 180g black vinyl, 2 x 12” colour vinyl exclusives, a 12” fan collectible Picture Disk, Digital and various limited retail exclusive versions with HMV, Rough Trade, Crash and Assai Records.

The band’s first single off the album, “Blood Brother”, has gone straight on to the Planet Rock Radio A-List in the UK and onto daytime radio on Star FM Berlin and Star FM Nuremburg. Watch the video below:

Arjen: "Wow, I'm blown away! As usual, I was extremely nervous about the ticket sales for this 5th show. And yes… so sorry… I should have had faith in you all from the beginning! Because within no time it was obvious the 5th show would sell out as well. All in all, 15,000 tickets sold before we could say 01011001! Once again proving that you’re the best fans in the world. Now it’s up to us to give you the best show possible and film an amazing Blu-ray for all those who unfortunately can’t be there in person. Thanks once again for the confidence!"

Lucassen recently checked in with the following:

"I’m extremely happy with the singers that we managed to get for the 01011001 shows, what a cast! It’s always a big challenge to enlist all the singers for the live shows so far in advance, because so many of them are mega successful and therefore really busy. So... if your favourite singer isn’t there, PLEASE know that I did the best I could, but some simply aren’t available. Always to their own regret. I’m sure you agree that we have no less than 19 amazing singers here (apart from that hippie-dude), already proud of them!"

Watch One Of DAVID LEE ROTH's January 2020 Las Vegas Residency Concerts

Watch One Of DAVID LEE ROTH's January 2020 Las Vegas Residency Concerts

Robert "Videobob" Moseley has uploaded video of VAN HALEN frontman David Lee Roth's entire January 9, 2020 concert at Mandalay Bay's House Of Blues as part of his Las Vegas residency. Check it out below.

Roth's Vegas residency kicked off on January 8, 2020 with a 15-song set that included 10 VAN HALEN classics and five songs from his solo career. Backing the now-68-year-old singer were lead guitarist Al Estrada from the VAN HALEN tribute band ERUPTION, rhythm guitarist Frankie Lindia, bassist Ryan Wheeler, keyboardist Danny Wagner and drummer Mike Mussleman.

Roth explained that he chose Vegas as the place to debut his new band because "this is where you come to celebrate and do the victory dance, whatever that means to you."

In February/March 2020, Roth performed as the opening act for the North American leg of KISS's "End Of The Road" farewell tour.

Roth's 2020 Vegas residency wasn't the first time he had set up shop in Sin City. Back in 1995, Roth completed a Las Vegas engagement at Bally's Hotel and Casino and another short run at MGM Grand.

In March 2020, Roth postponed the final six shows of his Las Vegas residency due to the coronavirus pandemic.

A year ago, Roth canceled the entire 2022 leg of his Las Vegas residency "due to unforeseen circumstances related to COVID and out of an abundance of caution for those working and attending the shows."

In October 2021, the legendary VAN HALEN singer announced that he would be ending his career with his Vegas shows during the first weeks of January 2022. "I am throwing in the shoes. I'm retiring," Roth told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. "These are my last shows." He added: "I'm not going to explain the statement. The explanation is in a safe."

In a February 2020 interview with StarTribune, Roth openly wondered whether his first tour since VAN HALEN completed its 2015 run of shows would be the last time he would perform.

"I'm calling it 'The Last Tour'," he said at the time, "and then underneath it in parentheses: 'Unless It Isn't'. ... At my age, everything is a possible farewell tour."

"It's been a long great trip, a long great run," he continued. "But this kind of music requires the kind of energy that people in their 20s bring. You know what NFL stands for: Not For Long. It's similar in rock. I remember the days when we would stand around and say, 'Let's go have a cigarette.' And that's what we did: Four guys having one cigarette. I remember those days. They go by fast, so enjoy them while you're in them."

GUS G. Promises 'More Anthemic Type' Of Songs On Upcoming FIREWIND Album

GUS G. Promises 'More Anthemic Type' Of Songs On Upcoming FIREWIND Album

Gus G. has confirmed to The Metal Voice in a new interview that FIREWIND has commenced work on a new LP. The guitarist said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "We actually just recorded the new album. We just drums. I haven't started with the guitars yet, but the drums are done.

As for a possible release date for the new FIREWIND effort, Gus said: "We don't yet, because now… The thing is I was talking to [our record label] AFM Records, to the owner, actually. We met over Christmas and talked about it. And now there's a new approach, it seems — we're just gonna be releasing singles. It was an interesting topic they brought on, because they just wanna keep on releasing singles, and then eventually those singles will be part of an album. I mean, we still worked on the album — we did it old school. I already wrote the songs; I wrote 10 songs and all that. But they were, like, 'We'll just drop singles as we go and see how much traction you get, see if we get playlist placement.' Because Spotify playlists are like the new radio; that's the new medium right now. And that's what makes money for labels and artists, I guess. You get 'X' amount million streams and then that's revenue and that keeps it going. And you move on to the next song and the next song, and then eventually you take those five or six singles over a period of a year and you package them with another four or five songs."

He added: "I know it sounds very boring now — it doesn't sound artistic at all — but that's how labels think nowadays."

Regarding the musical direction of the new FIREWIND material, Gus said: "I think it still sounds like FIREWIND. My goal was to make a little bit more anthemic type of tracks this time around. Because of the whole direction that was, 'Okay, let's work singles,' I thought every song should be a single. So I didn't write any kind of obscure type of tracks or didn't experiment in that type of area. I kind of focused on writing three- [or] four-minute songs that are very high energy, something that you can play in an arena in a festival in front of a large crowd. That was my philosophy behind this one this time. Which is good. It's not easy to write that type of songs. People think it's easy, 'Oh, it's so simple' and stuff. But it's not so easy to make that and resonate with a bigger crowd. So let's see how it does."

FIREWIND's ninth, self-titled studio album was made available in May 2020.

In early 2020, FIREWIND officially parted ways with guitarist/keyboardist Bob Katsionis and singer Henning Basse. The group's current vocalist is Herbie Langhans, who has previously played with AVANTASIA and SINBREED.

Gus and Langhans got to know each other back in the autumn of 2019, when the FIREWIND leader was looking for a suitable replacement for Henning Basse after the tour with QUEENSRŸCHE. Just a few weeks later, the recordings for "Firewind" were a done deal, ready for Swedish sound engineer Tobias Lindell (EUROPE, AVATAR, H.E.A.T.) to mix them in Lindell Audio Studios.

Gus spoke about the evolution of FIREWIND's sound in a 2020 interview with Audio Ink Radio. He said: "Like every band, we go through our different phases. Especially for us, having quite a few different singers in the lineup in the past, each guy brought a different vibe and different things to the band. I think on this record, you'll hear elements from all our past records, especially with our new singer, Herbie, because he reminds me a lot of Stephen Fredrick, our first singer. But this album also has a lot of variety, and that might remind fans of albums like [2006's] 'Allegiance' and [2008's] 'The Premonition'. But then again, we're not trying to be retro or nostalgic or copy those albums. We're moving towards the future. The way I see it, there's always a new song to write. Every album, I try to make better songs, play better guitar, try different tempos, write in different keys. There's always things you can experiment with in the studio."

WORLDWIDE PANIC Release Music Video For “Less Than Nothing”

WORLDWIDE PANIC Release Music Video For “Less Than Nothing”

LA-based hard rock/metal band Worldwide Panic have released the third single off their upcoming album. The unrelenting quartet has dropped a music video for the track "Less Than Nothing". The band's self-titled LP will see an independent release on February 17. Preorder on Bandcamp.

Speaking on the experience of filming the music video and the deeper message behind the lyrics, Lane Steele (vocals, bass) comments:

"Making this video was absolutely insane! We were in an abandoned factory in the heat of summer. No A/C. The whole band and director were dying - including myself! Ultimately, it made for a really dark and gritty video that is really unique. As far as the song is concerned, it's about various people and the 'industry' throwing me away constantly and then wanting me back when it's convenient to them."

Worldwide Panic's eponymously titled new album was mastered by the esteemed Zeus (Chimaira, Hatebreed, Rob Zombie). The record's first single, "I Tried", charted at #26 on the Billboard 'Mainstream Rock Indicator' Chart, with the following single, "Falling Apart" peaking at #20 on the same chart!

Now, fans can prepare for Worldwide Panic to arrive on all platforms on February 17, 2023, with plenty of live shows and touring to follow.

GUS G. Talks Performing With PAUL DI’ANNO – “The IRON MAIDEN Crowd Is A Different Thing, It’s Almost Like Going To The World Cup Final”

GUS G. Talks Performing With PAUL DI’ANNO – “The IRON MAIDEN Crowd Is A Different Thing, It’s Almost Like Going To The World Cup Final”

Firewind and former Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Gus G recently spoke to The Metal Voice about his Greece tour with former Iron Maiden singer Paul Di’anno and gave an updated on the recording process on the new Firewind studio album.

When asked about the recent shows in Greece with Former Iron Maiden Singer Paul Di'anno:

"I play here a lot obviously because it's my country and we have really loyal following and people to support us and a lot of love.  I played in Greece also with Ozzy but the Iron Maiden crowd is a different thing,  it's almost like going to the World Cup final or something. I mean everybody's just like wow, they're amped up to 11. If you've seen that Flight 666 (Iron Maiden DVD) you know it’s very similar to that South America thing. Everybody came with a love that they were just pouring on for Paul because obviously with the surgery and stuff. They just came there to see him and honor him and it was it was touching man. The first gig he (Paul) felt a little bit out of it because he was in the wheelchair and he kept apologizing to the crowd. But he sounded great he did great and every night was better than the other, it was incredible. It was like a bit like a Beatlemania in a small kind of level, like fans were waiting for him outside the hotel every night and every morning. They (fans) were waiting there to get their stuff signed and to take photos with him and he was very very nice with everybody, it was really cool man. It was nice to experience."

When asked about any updates on upcoming Firewind studio album:

"We actually just recorded the new album, we just did drums I haven't started with the guitars yet but the drums are done and we did record one cover, so far. But I think we're gonna go back in the studio after this tour and do a few more covers so I would be  interested to collect more ideas and suggestions but we did do one song that I think it's amazing it was a hit."

EXODUS's TOM HUNTING On Beating Stomach Cancer: 'Science Is Amazing'

EXODUS's TOM HUNTING On Beating Stomach Cancer: 'Science Is Amazing'

In a new interview with Czech Republic's Backstage TV, EXODUS drummer Tom Hunting spoke about his appreciation for British heavy metal legends JUDAS PRIEST. Asked what comes to mind when he hears the words "JUDAS PRIEST", he said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "An incredible body of work. A to Z, everything's amazing. A lot of things come to mind. I think about what Glenn's [Tipton, PRIEST guitarist, who was diagnosed with the onset of the early stages of Parkinson's disease more than a decade ago] going through, and I think about how they talk about that and how they treat Glenn. It's very human shit that we're all gonna go through. I have my own battle. Glenn's having his battle. But they don't freak out about it; they just kind of deal with it. And he deals with it. It's inspiring."

Hunting also opened up about his recent battle with squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the stomach, saying: "I got diagnosed with cancer in February of 2021. They found a tumor in my stomach, and they immediately went to work on it. And I got great doctors at UCSF [University of California, San Francisco] in San Francisco, and they removed my stomach and, yeah, they got it all out of there. So, I'm lucky. Science is amazing."

Last March, Hunting revealed that his doctors found "a second type of cancer" while they were preparing to perform a surgery on him during his battle with squamous cell carcinoma. The now 57-year-old, who underwent a successful total gastrectomy in July 2021, discussed his ordeal in an interview with Zetro's Toxic Vault, the YouTube channel run by EXODUS singer Steve "Zetro" Souza. He said: "They've gotta cut your skin and then they've gotta cut your muscle. They've gotta get into, basically, your very core and pull out this huge organ, which had a tumor inside it. And also, as a curveball… They do an exploratory surgery ahead of time called laparoscopy where they basically… They cut a little slit, they go in with a camera and with another device that kind of moves organs out of the way so the camera can proceed and keep going — like, look at stuff. And they found what they thought was the same kind of cancer in my stomach on my abdomen wall. And it was a form of mesothelioma, and I was, like, 'What?' But at first, they thought they were looking at the same cancer I had in my stomach, in which case I would have been stage four plus — forget about it. This guy gets chemo. Keep him comfortable until ultimately it takes you out. But, anyways, the fact that I had a second type of cancer — it's called peritoneal mesothelioma — they did a surgery within a surgery… The whole thing, looking back on it, is pretty mindblowing."

In December 2021, Hunting told the "Put Up Your Dukes" podcast that he wanted to use his experience as a cancer survivor to interact with others who may be going through a similar situation.

"I'm not qualified now, but I think in a couple of more months, they deem me qualified to talk to other people about this disease, and I'm gonna do it," he said. "'Cause I want people to know about it and I want people to get checked. Just going public with it — I don't do social media, but what I read on the EXODUS [sites] was, like, 'Hey, I'm having gut problems too,' and, 'I'm gonna go get checked out now.' I hope people get the answers they're looking for."

"I'm not saying those drugs that they give you for your gut are bad. They get you by. But if you're having what you think is a gut problem, tell 'em you wanna get scoped. 'Cause some of those scans and some of those tests, they won't pick up what's going on inside there.

"Since I'm on this journey, dude, they're fucking scanning me constantly," Tom added. "'Cause they wanna see how I'm reacting to what they're doing too. So it's all part of the science and the evolution of the science. If they can help me live — and I love my life — and I can help them develop the science to help the next batch of people who you know are gonna get this shit, that's a win-win."

Hunting rejoined his EXODUS bandmates on stage in October 2021 at the Aftershock festival in Sacramento, California.

EXODUS tapped John Tempesta to play drums for the band at Psycho Las Vegas in Las Vegas, Nevada in August 2021 and at Full Terror Assault in Cave In Rock, Illinois in September 2021 while Hunting was recovering from surgery. Tempesta was a member of EXODUS from 1989 until 1993 and played on the band's albums "Impact Is Imminent" (1990) and "Force Of Habit" (1992).

A GoFundMe campaign to help Hunting with medical expenses had previously raised more than $114,000 — including $5,000 from Tom's former EXODUS bandmate, current METALLICA guitarist Kirk Hammett, and $1,500 from FOZZY singer and wrestling superstar Chris Jericho.

EXODUS released its new album, "Persona Non Grata", in November 2021 via Nuclear Blast Records. The LP was recorded at a studio in Lake Almanor, California and was engineered by Steve Lagudi and EXODUS. It was produced by EXODUS and was mixed by Andy Sneap. For the third time in the band's history, they returned to Swedish artist Pär Olofsson to create the album artwork.

"Persona Non Grata" is the follow-up to 2014's "Blood In Blood Out", which was the San Francisco Bay Area thrashers' first release since the departure of EXODUS's singer of nine years, Rob Dukes, and the return of Souza, who previously fronted EXODUS from 1986 to 1993 and from 2002 to 2004.

French Modern Power Metal Band ASYLUM PYRE Release "Virtual Guns" Video

French Modern Power Metal Band ASYLUM PYRE Release "Virtual Guns" Video

French modern power metal band Asylum Pyre has released the official music video for "Virtual Guns", which can be seen below. "Virtual Guns" is an emergency. A melodic call for the union of the peoples of the Earth to go to war without the wrong target. Vital metal. Attacking ignorance.

Asylum Pyre comments: "It has been really funny to try combining the traditional elements of metal music to tribal aspects in the rhythm and vocals. As well as for the integration of the bagpipes."

Asylum Pyre plays each song as if it were the last, as if its life was on trial. Add to this a whole pre-apocalyptical universe in which each band member plays a double-game character and you’ve got an intense and unforgettable artistic experience!
