GENE SIMMONS Says He Hasn't Sold His Crypto Holdings Despite Market DropKISS bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons says that he has not sold any of his 14 cryptocurrencies since the onset of the so-called "crypto winter."
Simmons addressed his fondness for digital assets while speaking briefly to Crypto HouseWife on December 8, 2022 at Sobeys Liquor Store in Royal Oak, Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He said: "Well, I'm not gonna suggest or recommend anything; I'm not a financial advisor. But since you're asking me, yes, I'm deep in crypto. I believe in it. I've got bitcoin, litecoin, ethereum." Personally, I'm holding, but everybody should do their own due diligence."
In the past, Simmons has said that he was "in [crypto] big" and that he had "done really well." He said: "Since the downturn, I have not sold a single position. I have faith in the future. The near future."
In a May 2022 interview with American Songwriter, Simmons called cryptocurrency "a game-changer. Governments, as you know, now print money whenever they need it," he said. "So, inflation keeps getting bigger and bigger. The dollar used to be based on gold and you can lose a dollar. You can't lose your crypto currency, unless, of course, you lose what's called your 'code wallet,' or your password. Banks have nothing to say about it. Governments have nothing to say about it. The world is changing. It's probably time. Probably time to do that instead of keep cutting trees down and making paper so that we can give it to each other. But credit cards and wiring funds probably were the start of that."
The cryptocurrency market has come under pressure over the last few weeks as problems at major exchange FTX came to light.
November was a particularly catastrophic month for crypto, with bitcoin's price dropping from over $20,000 to under $16,000 in a matter of days, and ethereum seeing a similar decline.
In the past several months, the crypto market value has decreased by more than $1 trillion as a result of a significant and continuous sell-off.
A recent CNBC All-America Economic Survey showed 43% of the public with a negative view of cryptocurrencies, up from 25% in March.
Around 16% of Americans say they invested in cryptocurrencies, according to a poll from Pew Research Center last year.
Re Crypto currencies: (Write it down.) I Am A HODLER. I have not sold a single position since the downturn. I believe in the future. The Near Future.

PANTERA Performs Without REX BROWN At KNOTFEST CHILEPANTERA performed earlier today (Sunday, December 11) at Knotfest Chile in Santiago without bassist Rex Brown. Filling in for him was CATTLE DECAPITATION bassist Derek Engemann, who also plays with PANTERA singer Philip Anselmo in both PHILIP H. ANSELMO & THE ILLEGALS and SCOUR.
In an official statement, the Knotfest Chile organizers blamed Brown's absence on his "health problems." However, local radio station Futuro reported that Brown missed the Santiago gig after contracting COVID-19. Rex reportedly flew from Bogotá, Colombia, where PANTERA performed at Knotfest Colombia on Friday (December 9),back home to the United States to quarantine, thereby missing the remainder of the PANTERA shows in South America.
Joining surviving members Brown and Anselmo in PANTERA's reformed lineup are guitarist Zakk Wylde (OZZY OSBOURNE, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY) and drummer Charlie Benante (ANTHRAX).
Benante shared a short video of the Santiago concert and included the following message: "#chile was on fire!!!! We missed Rex tonight , get better buddy! Damn it was a hot one".
Photos and video of today's concert can be found below.
PANTERA is next scheduled to play a headlining concert in Santiago on Monday (December 12),followed by two shows in São Paulo, Brazil — on Thursday, December with JUDAS PRIEST and on Sunday, December 18 at Knotfest Brasil.
The new PANTERA lineup made its live debut on December 2 at Mexico's Hell & Heaven Metal Fest and also performed on December 6 at Monterrey Metal Fest in Monterrey, Mexico.
It was first reported in July that Anselmo and Brown would unite with Wylde and Benante for a world tour under the PANTERA banner.
The band will headline a number of major festivals across North America and Europe and stage some of their own headline concerts. They will also support METALLICA on a massive North American stadium tour in 2023 and 2024.
According to Billboard, the lineup has been given a green light by the estates of the band's founders, drummer Vincent "Vinnie Paul" Abbott and guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, as well as Brown, who last year said Wylde wouldn't tour with PANTERA if a reunion were to happen. It's unclear what changed his mind.
Up until his passing, Vinnie remained on non-speaking terms with Anselmo, whom the drummer indirectly blamed for Dimebag's death.
Vinnie Paul and Dimebag co-founded PANTERA. When PANTERA broke up in 2003, they formed DAMAGEPLAN. On December 8, 2004, while performing with DAMAGEPLAN at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, Ohio, Dimebag was shot and killed onstage by a troubled schizophrenic who believed that the members of PANTERA were stealing his thoughts.
Vinnie passed away on June 22, 2018 at his other home in Las Vegas at the age of 54. He died of dilated cardiomyopathy, an enlarged heart, as well as severe coronary artery disease. His death was the result of chronic weakening of the heart muscle — basically meaning his heart couldn't pump blood as well as a healthy heart.

DRAGONFORCE Completes Writing New AlbumIn a new interview with MetalSucks, DRAGONFORCE guitarist Herman Li confirmed that the band completed writing a new album during the coronavirus pandemic. He said: "I can't tell you anything just yet. Not until it's done, at least. Because things change all the time, and the pieces are constantly moving, shifting, and changing. Even though it's written, there are always going to be surprises in terms of what's going to happen to it. But I can tell you that we are slowly working on it."
Asked if he and his bandmates had a potential release date in mind, Herman said: "To be honest, no. And the reason is that the music industry is changing quickly now with streaming and everything. With all the changes, releases take a long time to set up — longer than they used to be — so I don't know. I can tell you that I don't want to mix the album and then have it sit there because it's taking forever due to delays, and then no one gets to hear it. I'd rather give it away for free before that happens, but that's not even a guarantee anymore. So, to maximize the potential of the album's success, I've got to plan ahead. So, I don't know. It'll come out whenever, maybe next year, or maybe the year after. Stay tuned."
Last month, DRAGONFORCE released a music video for the song "The Last Dragonborn". The track is taken from DRAGONFORCE's latest album, "Extreme Power Metal", which came out in September 2019. Produced in Los Angeles, California by Damien Rainaud at Mix Unlimited, the LP was also recorded, in part, on Li's livestream channel on Twitch with participation from the fans.
"The Last Dragonborn" is the first DRAGONFORCE music video to feature new bassist Alicia Vigil, who first joined the band as a touring member in January 2020.
This past April, Li told Elliott Fullam of Little Punk People about the material for DRAGONFORCE's next album: "Well, you know, it's gonna be epic, triumphant, fun and catchy and uplifting. We're gonna carry on sounding like DRAGONFORCE."
DRAGONFORCE's platinum-selling single "Through The Fire And Flames" brought the London-based Grammy-nominated extreme power metal group international acclaim and was featured as the most challenging song on "Guitar Hero III".
In March 2019, the "Through The Fire And Flames" music video reached a new milestone: it surpassed one hundred million views on YouTube — DRAGONFORCE's first music video to do so.
"Through The Fire And Flames" is the leadoff track from 2006's "Inhuman Rampage" album, which was officially certified gold in July 2017 by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) for sales in excess of half a million copies.
In August 2019, DRAGONFORCE parted ways with longtime bassist Frédéric Leclercq. He has since joined German thrashers KREATOR.
