SUNSTORM To Release Restless Fight Album In November; Visualizer Posted For "I'll Stand For You" Single
AOR/melodic rock quintet, Sunstorm, is excited to announce their return with their third album, Restless Fight, set for release on November 22 via Frontiers Music Srl. The first single, “I’ll Stand For You”, is available now alongside an accompanying visualizer. Find the clip below.
Ronnie Romero expressed his enthusiasm for the release, by saying: “I really love the new album! I believe it keeps the Sunstorm essence with an AOR base, but brings a fresh more guitar-oriented and heavier sound. The new song 'I’ll Stand For You' is the perfect example, where the melodies are still very important. It was fantastic to work with Aldo for the first time and I believe the fans are going to like the album very much!”
Sunstorm is a project created, overseen, and directed by Serafino Perugino, President of Frontiers Records, and it was originally designed to showcase a musical style similar to singer Joe Lynn Turner’s melodic rock/AOR roots.
With the new album Restless Fight, the third to feature Ronnie Romero, Sunstorm changed its skin. The new lineup that backs Romero, comes from a heavy background.
On guitars, Aldo Lonobile, musician, songwriter and producer (Geoff Tate's Sweet Oblivion, Archon Angel feat. Zak Stevens, Ring Of Fire feat. Mark Boals), Andrea Arcangeli (from the Italian progressive metal band DGM) on bass, Alfonso Mocerino (ex-Temperance, Virtual Simmetry) on drums and Antonio Agate (one of the most talented Italian keyboard players and arranger for symphonic orchestras, featured in countless albums) on keyboards. It brings back the Sunstorm’s classic AOR/hard rock formula with a strongest dose of energy, reaching a more dynamic and bombastic approach.
Since the inception of the new album’s production, the discussion was centered on the concept to keep the roots of Sunstorm’s musical style: the AOR sound of the early records that everyone wanted, but with a special attention to the 80’s way to arrange the guitars and keys in order to reach more powerful vibrations. The aim was to give a fresh appeal to the new music so that it could be the perfect foundation for Romero, that with his powerful vocal style, once again is the perfect fit to deliver the goods for the music.
The result is Restless Fight, an album where Ronnie’s vocal acrobatics sit perfectly into Lonobile’s way to play guitars, clearly influenced by the 80’s guitar heroes such as Jake E. Lee/Steve Stevens, to name a few.
Restless Fight stands pretty tall in its own right and Sunstorm are here to stay with a lot more to say. Pre-order the album here.
Restless Fight tracklisting:

Since 2021, Sunstorm has featured one of the most impressive vocal talents of recent years, Lords of Black and Rainbow singer Ronnie Romero. Romero’s debut album with Sunstorm, Afterlife was released in early 2021 and showcased a rejuvenation of Sunstorm's previous musical formula, mixing melodic rock/AOR with more '70s-oriented hard rock, ala Rainbow (for which Romero performed as the singer).
Romero's voice and prolific musical activity have brought him to the forefront of

LORDS OF THE TRIDENT – New Single “Jet Set City” Streaming
Lords Of The Trident, fresh off their acclaimed rendition of Steve Winwood's "Valerie," now unveil "Jet Set City," the fourth single from their upcoming EP, 'V.G.E.P.' This latest release, accompanied by a captivating music video, pays homage to one of the band's beloved video games, Jet Grind Radio.
Frontman Fang VonWrathenstein explains:
"In the early 2000s I bought a used Dreamcast from a friend, and it came with a copy of the game Jet Grind Radio. I couldn't stop playing it! The look, the gameplay, and especially the iconic soundtrack captivated me. It quickly became one of the first games that I ever finished to 100% completion. When we were writing this EP, I knew I wanted this song full of rebellious vibes to be about the street-ruling graffiti gangs of Tokyo-to! It's a bit embarrassing to admit, but in order to shoot the music video I had to slowly re-learn how to rollerblade. I had quite a few painful spills leading up to filming day!"
The EP made its "sudden drop" as an exclusive release for Lords Of The Trident's Patreon supporters. Anyone who pledges $5 or more to the Lords Of The Trident Patreon gets immediate access to download the full EP as well as the band's last four albums, 25+ live albums, 10+ singles, and more.

RIPPED TO SHREDS Shares New Song “Horrendous Corpse Resurrection”
Ripped To Shreds will release their new full-length Sanshi next week on September 27. Today, the band shares the final single offering “殭屍復活 (Horrendous Corpse Resurrection)”.
Frontman Andrew Lee comments:
"Putrid riff resurrection in the form of jiangshi, born of corpses left to rot in the open absorbing the ambient yin energies of the moon and yang energies of the sun... We combat these hopping vampires with our endless shred solos. Zero tech death horseshit, all riffs, all solos."
Ripped To Shreds explodes out of the underground with all the blood-soaked hallmarks of the hellacious RTS sound - an onslaught of frenetic dueling solos, blasting drums, and van Drunen-esque vocals that further fuse the grit and grime of old-school Death Metal and Grind with the here and now. Helmed by guitarist and frontman Andrew Lee, Ripped To Shreds is as fierce and focused as ever.
Conceptually, Sanshi sees the band dig into a morbid fixation on death and the afterlife in the context of traditional Chinese folklore. Tracks like the lead single “Perverting The Funeral Rites, Stripped For The Dead” is a song inspired by obscure funeral rites in Taiwan, wherein exotic dancers perform lithe rituals for living and dead alike. Elsewhere, “Force Fed” delves into the legend of Meng Po’s "Elixir of Forgetfulness", which when drunk by the dead wipes their memories clean before they are reborn into their next incarnation. “Living In Effigy” was inspired by real life tales of photographers traversing remote rural China, taking funeral portraits of the elderly who died in solitude.
Ripped To Shreds on Sanshi: "We wanted to come out of the gates swinging with our most morbid and grinding material yet. 'Perverting...' showcases our new live approach with constant vocal and solo tradeoffs, and we shot the video in Taiwan with a real Daoist priest as a natural extension of RTS' narrative approach to songwriting."
Sanshi's cover art comes courtesy of Lee’s long-term collaborator, artist Guang Yang, and depicts a scene of Yan Luo Wang, The God of Hell, and the dead who must face his judgment in his demonic court.
Tracklisting:
"Into The Court Of Yanluowang"
"Force Fed"
"燒冥紙 (Sacrificial Fire)"
"孽鏡臺 (Visions Of Sin, Mirror Of Darkness)"
"Feast Of The Deceased"
"Horrendous Corpse Resurrection"

VEIL OF MAYA To 'Go On Hiatus': 'We Will Be Back'
Genre-bending metal powerhouse VEIL OF MAYA has announced its decision to "go on hiatus" as the bandmembers "reassess" their "future".
Earlier today (Thursday, September 19),VEIL OF MAYA released the following statement via social media: "We have made the difficult decision to have VEIL OF MAYA go on hiatus and we will not be playing any of the upcoming festivals or tours.
"We apologize to our fans and appreciate everyone's support over the years.
"This break is necessary for us to reassess our future, and we hope you understand. When the time feels right, we'll update you on what's next for VEIL OF MAYA.
"We will be back. Thank you again."
Earlier this year, VEIL OF MAYA completed a U.S. tour with support from ANGELMAKER, REFLECTIONS and ALLUVIAL.
The band was touring in support of its first new studio album in nearly six years. Titled "[m]other", it was released on the band's longtime label Sumerian Records in May 2023.
By channeling energy in one direction, force grows exponentially. VEIL OF MAYA harnesses the individual experiences and talents of four distinct musicians — Marc Okubo (guitar),Sam Applebaum (drums),Danny Hauser (bass) and Lukas Magyar (vocals) — into airtight groove-laden metal accented by fits of instrumental virtuosity and vocal catharsis.
The members of VEIL OF MAYA have consistently pushed the boundaries of heavy music by challenging themselves collectively. 2015's "Matriarch" made major waves, crashing the Billboard U.S. Hard Rock Albums chart at No. 2 powered by "Aeris", "LeeLoo" and "Mikasa". Simultaneously, they toured alongside ANIMALS AS LEADERS, UPON A BURNING BODY, CHELSEA GRIN, OCEANS ATE ALASKA, and more. In the midst of the pandemic, they dropped "Outsider", "Viscera" and "Outrun".

RATT Announces 'Out Of The Cellar' 40th-Anniversary Edition With Previously Unreleased Track
BMG, in partnership with Rhino Entertainment, has announced the release of "Out Of The Cellar" 40th anniversary, celebrating RATT's massively successful first studio album with limited-edition versions which include a previously unreleased track recorded during the 1983 "Out Of The Cellar" sessions.
Formed in Los Angeles, RATT was featured as an unsigned act on Uncle Joe Benson's "Local Licks Drive Time" show on KLOS-FM. This was their first time on radio and led to their signing to Atlantic Records.
Featuring the classic lineup of Stephen Pearcy (vocals),Warren DeMartini (guitars),Robbin Crosby (guitars),Juan Croucier (bass/vocals) and Bobby Blotzer (drums),RATT exploded on to the national scene in 1984 with the release of "Out Of The Cellar".
Featuring an undeniable hook and legendary music video, the lead single "Round And Round" hit No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100, while "Out Of The Cellar" reached No. 7 on the Billboard Top 200 and was certified triple platinum. Two more charting singles followed with "Back For More" and "Wanted Man".
"Out Of The Cellar" became a huge success, and after the album was released, the band went on a world tour, selling out stadiums and arenas worldwide and sharing a stage with acts such as OZZY OSBORNE, IRON MAIDEN, MÖTLEY CRÜE, TWISTED SISTER and more.
This limited edition of "Out Of The Cellar" is being released in red-and-black splatter vinyl with a lenticular cover and an additional neon orange 7" with the previously unreleased track "Reach For The Sky", as well as a limited-edition CD format with lenticular cover and unreleased track.
"Out Of The Cellar" 40th-anniversary reissue track listing:
01. Wanted Man (Cristofanilli/Crosby/Pearcy)
02. You're In Trouble (DeMartini/Pearcy/Crosby)
03. Round And Round (DeMartini/Pearcy/Crosby)
04. In Your Direction (Pearcy)
05. She Wants Money (Croucier)
06. Lack Of Communication (Croucier/Pearcy)
07. Back For More (Pearcy/Crosby)
08. The Morning After (DeMartini/Pearcy/Crosby)
09. I'm Insane (Crosby)
10. Scene Of The Crime (Crosby/Croucier)
11. Reach For The Sky (Crosby/Pearcy/Torien) (bonus track)
Also available are brand new limited-edition color vinyl versions of the albums "Reach For The Sky", "Invasion Of Your Privacy", "Detonator" and "Dancing Undercover".
RATT returned in 1985 with its second full-length album, "Invasion Of Your Privacy". Certified double platinum and also reaching No. 7 on the Billboard 200, "Invasion Of Your Privacy" also featured the classics "Lay It Down" (No. 40 on Billboard Hot 100) and "You're In Love".
"Dancing Undercover" followed in 1986 as RATT toured North America with a then-brand new Los Angeles band called POISON as the opening act. Lead single "Dance" hit the Billboard Hot 100 and spawned another music video hit with "Slip Of The Lip", while "Body Talk" was featured in a key scene in the Eddie Murphy film "The Golden Child". "Dancing Undercover" became RATT's third consecutive platinum album and reached No. 26 on the Billboard 200.
1988's "Reach For The Sky" saw RATT return to the Top 20 of the Billboard 200 album charts, peaking at No. 17. Driven by the bluesy hit and MTV favorite "Way Cool Jr.", "Reach For The Sky" was also certified platinum and became RATT's fourth album in a row to move well over a million copies. "I Want A Woman" was also a successful single and the video captured the excitement and energy of RATT live.
RATT released its last full-length record of the Atlantic era, "Detonator", in 1990. Music was changing, but "Detonator" was still a success, peaking at No. 23 on the Billboard 200 and going gold. It was the first RATT album to feature major outside songwriting contributions (Desmond Child, Diane Warren) and guests (Jon Bon Jovi, Michael Schenker). Lead single "Lovin' You's A Dirty Job" hit No. 18 on the rock chart while the power ballad "Giving Yourself Away" reached No. 39.
In 1991, they released the single "Nobody Rides For Free" from the hit film "Point Break", starring Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze.
In January 2021, Pearcy told SiriusXM's "Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk" that he was open to the idea of making a new RATT album with all the surviving members of the band's classic lineup.
RATT hasn't released any new music since 2010's "Infestation" LP.

SCOTT STAPP Debuts Official Music Video For “Black Butterfly”; Single Is Top 20 Hit On Mediabase Active Rock Chart
Scott Stapp's transformative year continues as he reveals a new video for “Black Butterfly,” as the single rises to #19 on the Mediabase Active Rock chart. “Black Butterfly” is the second hit single from Stapp’s chart-topping new album, Higher Power (Napalm Records). It follows title track, “Higher Power” which reached #8 at Active Rock in March.
Exceeding his own career bests this year, the Grammy winning songwriter, solo artist, and Creed frontman has returned to the zeitgeist with multiple projects and Creed’s return, “which may be something this industry has never seen,” according to Pollstar.
Traversing release, acceptance, and growth, the new video features a lone figure tormented by opposing forces until the light within bursts through. The cocoon is the catalyst for narrator’s shift from fragile to fierce, leading a lion’s charge.
As Stapp states: “Growth is challenging, change can be uncomfortable, and personal loss can be crushing. We’ve all been there. Push through. I’ve learned that the ‘next level’ of self-awareness is knowing what you’re capable of and that you’re not defined by your worst experiences.”
Stapp tasked video and motion graphics specialist Scott Kennedy at 12 Inch Media, an outfit based in Glasgow, Scotland, to create the video.
Stapp adds: “When ‘Black Butterfly’ hit radio, I wanted to share a new visual. Scott (Kennedy) didn’t sacrifice artistry for speed. By the final edit, it felt like the prelude to a whole new chapter.”
Transcending defeat to emerge reborn, “Black Butterfly” is a grooving stunner with unshakable chorus, charging riffs from Kevin Thrasher (@kthrash), and Stapp’s hauntingly beautiful vocals.
Higher Power is available in the following formats:
- Digital Album
- CD Digisleeve
- Solid Viola Gatefold Vinyl LP
- Black/Red Splatter Gatefold LP - Die Hard Edition w/ Slipmat & Record Butler (Napalm Mail Order Only, Limited to 300)

SEVENDUST's LAJON WITHERSPOON: 'There's No Room' For Racism And Ignorance In Metal
In a new interview with Glassman of the 93.5 The Beach radio station, SEVENDUST frontman Lajon Witherspoon, who is African American, was asked if he and his bandmates have ever experienced racism during their three-decade-long career. He responded (transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): ""Not a lot, but yeah, on the SLIPKNOT tour, one time we were somewhere, there were some racist kids out there and they were throwing up 'Heil Hitler' signs. And I laughed at 'em and I said, 'You kids don't even know what that means,' that they were doing it. But luckily, we got through that. And I think we made a point to let everyone know that we weren't about the racism and the negativity, even still to this day. We don't wanna be divided then and we still don't wanna be divided now. But I feel like our community and the music industry that we're in and it's metal community and rock that we all come together. There was no room for ignorance then and there's no room for ignorance now. So we'll just keep that going."
Back in September 2020, Witherspoon was asked by Full Metal Jackie's nationally syndicated radio show how his role as a metal singer can best effect positive change in this time of heightened awareness in America. He responded: "I think today we definitely can see that there's been a lack of equality in this world that's being put in the forefront. Luckily, in the industry that I'm in, in the metal community, I feel like that's definitely something that's not tolerated, I would like to say, as far as I've seen. I feel like this community is incredibly welcoming, and I've been very blessed to be in it. I also feel like there's definitely a lot of people that are hiding behind masks that are racist out there. But if there's anything that I can do, I will never not be a leader of bringing peace, love and equality to this industry and to what I do.
"I can say love sees no color, but I do — I believe that people do see color, obviously," he continued. "But I still want to bring everyone together and [have] it not be a problem.
"I feel like in our community, there's not only black — there's white, there's Asian, there's everybody — and that's what this world should [be like]. We should definitely get to that page and to the point, again, to where we don't have that problem. I pray that we get there.
"But me, musically, I feel like, thank you for letting us have our voices and to be able to speak and to bring people together," Lajon added. "And I think that's something that we're able to do as SEVENDUST, as a band. People see us. and they see a bunch of different guys from different backgrounds and different ethnicities. It's something that we've done for 20-something years now — we haven't stopped — and I hope that's something that people will understand and see and learn from."
Earlier in 2020, SEVENDUST guitarist Clint Lowery addressed his band's past use of the Confederate flag, explaining that it was done "as a spoof."
The Confederate battle emblem has long been decried as a symbol of racism and violence, and it became a frequent target for protesters following the May 2020 death of George Floyd, an unarmed black man, at the hands of police.
When SEVENDUST played Woodstock '99, SEVENDUST's Vince Hornsby played a bass with a Confederate flag on the body.
Asked in an interview with the "Talk Toomey" podcast how he feels about SEVENDUST's past association with such an offensive and divisive symbol, Clint said: "Our thing was funny, because we were doing it as a spoof. We were trying to kinda use it in this cynical way, so it's gonna be completely misunderstood now. We were using it in a smart-ass way… It's confusing.
"We're all being educated — everyone's being educated," he added. "Things we thought were cool before aren't cool anymore, and I understand why they're not cool anymore. And it's, like, okay, yeah, I didn't know enough about what the situation was to even have a… It was just ignorance. You do things as a younger person — you're, like, 'Oh yeah, this is cool. This is against the grain' — and you realize the sensitivities; you learn about it. And that's what I think that I'm trying to do — is, like, okay, that wasn't cool. That wasn't a decision that was something I'm very proud of. You live and learn, you admit when you do wrong and you change. And that's what everyone needs to do. I can't control anybody. I just do what I do, try to be as open and loving as I can. And that's it."
Witherspoon voiced his views on the Confederate flag during a 2018 interview with Billboard. He said: "Listen, man, I used to wear a belt buckle that had a Confederate flag on it. Just 'cause I flew that flag doesn't mean I was a racist. We're just country boys, and that's a country-boy thing. That's what the cool thing about it was — that Vinnie would have a Confederate flag with me [a black man] standing beside him. At that point, love sees no color at all. But I can't say, 'This guy flies the flag the same as this guy,' because everyone has different values."
In a 2013 interview with Bloody Disgusting, Witherspoon said he hadn't seen racism at SEVENDUST gigs in recent years, but more than two decades ago on tour with SLIPKNOT he saw "a couple of knuckleheads" in the mosh pit give the Hitler salute, oblivious to what it meant.
Asked if he or SEVENDUST are viewed or treated differently because he is black, Lajon said: "No, not at all. You know, if it is, I don't see it. I have no room for ignorance in my life. I think that we've built a relationship and… not a fanbase, but a family base that really doesn't tolerate that. I'm the kind of guy that says, 'If you don't like it, don't come,' you know what I mean? We're not forcing anything on anyone. I know that that's still there, but I don't have time for that ignorance. We just keep on moving because it can never be the way it was before."
Eight years ago, Witherspoon told The Salt Lake Tribune he sometimes thinks about whether his race might have slowed the band's rise.
"I've always wondered if I had not been a black man in SEVENDUST, would it have even gotten bigger?" he asked. "At the end of the day, I'm glad that it took this long because we're still here."

In 2010, a Massachusetts-based research company called Knome used a blood sample taken from Ozzy to map out his genetic code and attempt to figure out how he has survived after years of abusing drugs and alcohol. Researchers at Knome hoped that analyzing Ozzy's blood and DNA would give them insight into how drugs are absorbed in the body, and why some people can survive extreme substance abuse while others can't. They discovered a never-before-seen mutation that may explain Osbourne's ability to consume alcohol in great quantities and several genetic variations that predisposed him to drug and alcohol dependencies.
Although he's sober now, the now-75-year-old Ozzy estimates that he took drugs and used alcohol for more than 40 years, according to Rolling Stone.
He also survived a 2003 bike accident in which he broke his neck and was diagnosed a few years back with a genetic disorder that is similar to Parkinson's Disease.
In 2018, Ozzy spoke to Orange County Register about his substance abuse and how he finally became sober. He said: "I don't drink alcohol anymore…I don't smoke tobacco. I don't use drugs… I'm doing good right now. I now think, 'How did I think going into a bar and getting smashed and doing all that cocaine was fun?'"
He added: "I have come to think that if right now you had a gun, a bag of cocaine and a gallon of booze and you said, 'Take your pick,' I'd pick up the gun. It's not worth it.
"I don't believe in making New Year's resolutions, so I won't be making one this year. I just hope that God keeps me alive."
Ozzy previously held a gig as a health columnist for England's Sunday Times. In the column — which was largely ghostwritten by his memoir co-writer, Chris Ayres — Ozzy admitted: "By all accounts, I'm a medical miracle. When I die, I should donate my body to the Natural History Museum."
Ozzy and Billy are longtime friends who co-host the "Ozzy Speaks" show on SiriusXM. The BLACK SABBATH singer also makes an appearance on Morrison's star-studded new album, "The Morrison Project", which features additional guest contributions from the likes of SLIPKNOT's Corey Taylor, MINISTRY's Al Jourgensen, MÖTLEY CRÜE's John 5 and others. The LP arrived in April.
Ozzy previously appeared on Morrison's 2015 song "Gods Of Rock N Roll".
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Osbourne stated about Morrison: "Billy Morrison has been a good, good friend for such a long, long time. He's helped me out a lot of times over the years."
Asked what he and Morrison have in common on a musical level, Osbourne laughed and said: "Well, we're both fucking crazy." | +1 | |

DROWNING POOL Releases New Single 'Revolution (The Final Amen)'
DROWNING POOL's new single, "Revolution (The Final Amen)", has just been released via SBG Records. It marks the first piece of music founding DROWNING POOL guitarist C.J. Pierce and his longtime bandmates — drummer Mike Luce and bassist Stevie Benton — have completed with singer Ryan McCombs in 13 years. Check out the track below.
In celebration of the new single, DROWNING POOL will be at Will Call Bar in Dallas, Texas on September 20 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. for "Hard Rock Happy Hour". Chazz from Power Chords will be interviewing the band. Don't miss this exclusive event — grab a drink and rock out with the band!
In a recent interview with iHeart Radio personality Debbie Sexxton, Pierce stated about "Revolution (The Final Amen)": "Yeah, it was great working on the song together. It's the first one with all of us back with Ryan, and we spent a lot of time on it. We started on it, actually, beginning of last year. And just between touring and stuff like that, we weren't able to get it down yet. But the whole process, all of us working together, I mean, we literally sat down at a table and we all had different ideas and every one of us kind of approached the song in a different way. And then we came together as a band. It was just amazing. That sounds like a DROWNING POOL song. That's what we want it to sound like. It sounds like us with Ryan."
Regarding the lyrical themes covered in the new DROWNING POOL single, Pierce said: "We spent a lot of time trying different things out to make sure all the bases were covered and we came across with the message lyric-wise too. We had a couple of different rewrites and redrafts just to make sure the flow is right to get the point across. It's more of a general thing about what's going on now. We definitely need a big change — not specific to any country or government or religion as much as just as a whole. It's more [about] planet earth."
Earlier in August, Pierce told the "Thunder Underground" podcast about the musical direction of the new DROWNING POOL song: "I'm so excited, man. It just came out naturally. We never tried to write like a 'Bodies Part Two' or a 'Tear Away Part Two'. We just write what we feel at the time, and the excitement that we had and the energy we have with Ryan being back in the band, the song definitely has that vibe to it. It's in drop C [tuning], and I got a new wah pedal in the studio when I was doing the song. So I'm wah-pedaling all over just like on [DROWNING POOL's] 'Sinner' record. So it has that old-school vibe to it. The people that have heard it so far, that's what they relate it to. It's got that same type of energy. It's its own song and entity. But yeah, it's intense, man. It's a banger."
Asked if the idea is for DROWNING POOL to put out standalone singles going forward or if he and his bandmates are working on an album, C.J. said: "Well, we wanna put out some singles, and stuff that we're doing with Ryan. And yes, we wanna do a full-length record. But we have a lot of stuff coming up in the works. We just did a bunch of shows in Poland for our troops back in December and January. We did a 17-song jam and acoustic set. And I've always wanted to do that. And we kind of fell into it 'cause they asked us to do it over the holidays right before that happened. So it kind of threw us into acoustic mode, which we've never done. And I love the way that set came out. Some songs, they sound heavier, some songs sound a little different, some sound exactly the same, but acoustic style. So I wanna record that as a whole to get that out there. There's a handful of songs we're doing now with Ryan off [DROWNING POOL's] 'Desensitized' [album]. It's the 20-year anniversary. So we talked about re-recording a few songs with Ryan's voice on it since we do those now. And then we're coming up on the 25-year anniversary of the 'Sinner' record, so I've been putting a lot of stuff together with that, that we have with [original DROWNING POOL singer] Dave Williams. I have so much video and songs we did. And there's a couple of things and ideas we had with Dave I wouldn't mind doing with Ryan and making them solid as well. So there's a lot of stuff in the works, man, on top of writing new songs. So, we wanna get a couple of new things out so you can hear what we're doing with Ryan and then definitely wanna do a full-length record with him in the process of doing these other things. But the writing hasn't stopped, man. Since he's walked into my house last year, the ideas — I mean, it's been 13 years and a lot has happened to all of us in that time frame, and so there's a lot to write about, a lot to share, and it comes out through the music, dude. It's killer."
In July, McCombs was asked by 94 Rocks KFML's "The Dark" rock music program if the sound of the new DROWNING POOL material harkens back to what Ryan did with the band in the past, McCombs said: "It's C.J. It's Stevie. It's Mike. It's myself. We did a couple of really — not to toot our own horn — I think we did a couple really good albums back in the day. And we pick up right where we left off.
"I think the coolest thing about DROWNING POOL is it's really easy with DROWNING POOL to separate things with the singers, as far as eras go, but there's always been the DROWNING POOL sound," Ryan continued. "There's always been a certain aspect of just the tones and everything. So it's still just like it always has been — DROWNING POOL."
In June, Pierce told Scott Penfold of Loaded Radio that he and his DROWNING POOL bandmates are once again working with producer Shawn McGhee. "He has his own studio," C.J. explained. "We did the last record with him as well. We did [2022's] 'Strike A Nerve' [with him]. And he's just a great guy to work with. He's on the same page as us and a great friend and a great musician and a killer producer and mixer. So, we love working with Shawn. He really knows how to capture what we're trying to do, man. That's the kind of producer you want. We put him in a driver's seat and somebody you can trust to have that outside ear to take what we have already and elevate it."
Asked what fans can expect from the new DROWNING POOL music, Pierce said: "It just came out naturally. We just started writing. We were all excited to be together again. And we never try to be that kind of band to [go], like, 'Okay, let's write 'Bodies Part Two' or 'Sinner Part Two'. We just write what we feel. And then this came out naturally just to have that 'Sinner' record foundation with Ryan singing on it, man. It's probably the closest thing we've had that's like that, that's a good blend of us and Ryan and stuff from the Dave Williams days. And it came naturally and organically and, dude, it's slamming."
Regarding what it has been like having Ryan step back into the band and if that familiarity was there again, C.J. said: "Yeah, it was there like that and then some, man, 'cause we're all different people. And getting to know all of us, the new us — new and improved, hopefully.
"We just did the [Welcome To] Rockville festival, and just to see friends say that, 'cause people are just now seeing us with Ryan again," he continued. "[People are telling us], 'Man, I can just tell you guys are having so much fun with it. It's awesome to see you guys'. You can tell when a band's up there doing it for real. There's no going through motions with us. And we're having fun with it."
Five months ago, Pierce told Tulsa Music Stream about the new DROWNING POOL music: "It's the first time we have new music with Ryan McCombs in 13 years. And everything's organic and natural. We just started jamming and it just came out like that. It's not trying to push anything or any agenda. We just had this great writing relationship, and it was awesome to click like that again, especially with everybody in the band. Before we finish up the lyrics and all the singing, we're all sat down at the table and bounce ideas off each other to finetune the songs. It's awesome to work with my brothers like that, to have that kind of relationship where everybody has some input and say into it. So when the song comes out, all four of us love what we do with it."
Asked if he and his bandmates usually discuss where they want their new music to go or if they just generally stick to a tried-and-tested formula, Pierce said: "It's actually none of those things at all. Sorry. The answer is none of the above. I mean, some people, they approach it like that. I know some bands have the songwriter in the band or two guys writing everything, and some people don't. I love the fact that we all just get in a room and jam. It's a feeling thing. Music's expressing what's going on at the time. So, the way ideas usually come up with us in DROWNING POOL, it's just, 'Hey, man, I have this feeling, this idea. What do you think about this or this subject matter?' If something comes up, like, 'We should write something about that.' It's different. It's not really a set formula. We need to sound like this; we need to sound like that."
He continued: "It was unfortunate that we lost Dave Williams in 2002 from cardiomyopathy, but it also allowed us to work with other singers. They all have their own style and where they fit within the music Mike, Stevie and I write, So that was also fun. I wouldn't say challenge as much as just coming up with you feel and then see how it works with the strong points of the singer that's singing to it as well. So it just comes up. Everything's, again, whatever you feel at the time; that's what we write. It's never been trying to follow the trend, which is I'm fine with bands that do that or trying to fit in here and there. We try to keep it a hundred percent original."
Pierce added: "There's a few bands out there that have that formula — like AC/DC, as an example — and that works for them and that probably works for them to stick with it. With us, we've kind of been all over the board with, obviously, singer changes and stuff. But everybody knows 'Bodies'. And that's the core sound of what we have anyway. And the excitement of Ryan coming back in the band with the new songs that we have are equal to, if not more jamming than, 'Bodies'. And not intentional, like 'we have to like write a 'Bodies Part Two'' or another song [like that]. It's we just have that fire again. So it just comes out like that."
Earlier in April, Pierce spoke to Pierre Gutiérrez of Rock Talks about how the new DROWNING POOL music compares to "Strike A Nerve", the band's first record in seven years, which came out in September 2022 via T-Boy/UMe. It marked the band's third album with singer Jasen Moreno, who joined DROWNING POOL in 2012. Asked if the material is "more balanced" than "Strike A Nerve", C.J. said: "I wouldn't say more balanced. With Jasen Moreno on the last couple of records, we just started going up a heavy thing. Plus our career, just things that were going on at that time — I write what's going on in my life at the time; it's art, it's music — and just things were getting more intense with Jasen. Not just Jasen, but the music business, everything. So the music got intense as well, as you hear. And then with Ryan back in here, we still have that same intention, but Ryan brings a different kind of aspect and the delivery to the songs. There's definitely the style that we had on the two records we did with Ryan that's there, but we still have that heaviness going on as well. So it's definitely the heaviest stuff we've done with Ryan, for sure. So it's all heavy, brother. There's definitely a few songs that may be… We had '37 Stitches' and songs like that with Ryan. We have one or two songs that are kind of more in that mellow zone with him as well that we're working on. But, yeah, the last few records, we were pretty much just slamming, just full-on super-heavy stuff, man, which I enjoy as well. So you're gonna get a mix of it. I feel like with Ryan, we can get more of a mix of styles in there as well… It's intense, man. It's intense music. That's what we write."
McCombs played his first shows back with DROWNING POOL in March 2023 at Club L.A. in Destin, Florida and at the inaugural Throwdown At The Campground festival in Fruitland Park, Florida.
The longtime SOIL frontman, who has lived in Swindon, England since 2018, originally joined DROWNING POOL in 2005 and appeared on two of the band's studio albums, "Full Circle" (2007) and "Drowning Pool" (2010),as well as a live album, 2009's "Loudest Common Denominator". He rejoined SOIL after exiting DROWNING POOL in 2011.
McCombs is continuing to front SOIL and will carry on recording and performing with both bands.
DROWNING POOL's debut album, "Sinner", was certified platinum within six weeks of its release in 2001, while the CD's first single, "Bodies", was one of the most frequently aired videos on MTV by a new band. DROWNING POOL reached out to an ever-greater audience with dynamic performances at Wrestlemania XVIII and Ozzfest during the summers of 2001 and 2002. Unfortunately, their streak of success was not to last. Shortly after rousing the crowd at Ozzfest in Indianapolis, Indiana, on August 3, 2002, vocalist Dave "Stage" Williams was found dead of natural causes on the tour bus.

ATHENA XIX Launch Lyric Video For "I Wish" Feat. Former KAMELOT Frontman ROY KHAN
Athena XIX present the third single from their new album, Everflow Part 1: Frames Of Humanity, which will be released on October 25 via Reigning Phoenix Music (RPM).
"I Wish" is a magnificent new hymn by the Italian cult progressive quintet, and features none other than vocalist Roy Khan (Conception, ex-Kamelot) as counterpart to frontman Fabio Lione (Angra, ex-Rhapsody Of Fire), creating a brilliant duet that many melodic/power/symphonic metal maniacs thought they would never hear.
Check out the lyric video below, and stream/purchase the single here.
"Finally me and Roy together on one song! I was really happy to know that he liked the song and wanted to be part of this new Athena XIX record, he was free to improvise and to record his parts the way he wanted to. I just sent him the song with my vocals and let him freely add and sing in the moments he preferred to and I have to say that the combination is amazing! Our two voices combine very well! I'm sure that fans will love it! It's a really nice and cool song, with a great chorus in my opinion, one of the best tracks on this record and a perfect choice thinking about Roy's voice and style," jubilates singer Fabio Lione.
