JOURNEY's JONATHAN CAIN: The Christian Music Community Can Sometimes Be 'A Little Hypocritical'JOURNEY's Jonathan Cain, who began a Christian music career with 2016's "What God Wants To Hear", the following year's "Unsung Noel" and 2019's "More Like Jesus", was asked in a new interview with Robert Cavuoto of Myglobalmind if it's difficult to keep his religious fans happy considering that he is mostly known for his secular songwriting efforts. He responded (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "Yeah, sometimes. The Christian music community, sometimes it seems a little hypocritical, if you will, and they can judge someone like me and say, 'Well, how can you possibly be anointed? You play secular music with JOURNEY.' Well, why don't you listen? Give it a shot. There'll be people who'll come on and trash me online — I get 'em all the time — and I just have to go, 'You know, I do this with God, and we do this together, and if those people don't like it, they don't like it.' It's not for everyone, certainly. I don't try to evangelize. I just wanna minister, if I can. If something hits 'em, people that hear some of this stuff go, 'Wow, this is fresh. It doesn't sound like anybody else.' I'm, like, good. I don't wanna sound like anybody else. But I have been criticized, [like], 'How dare you even try?'," he added. "And I just kind of dismiss it."
Earlier this year, Cain released his acclaimed solo studio album "Arise". The iconic artist's sixth faith-inspired full-length project since 2016, the LP features the American Songwriter- and The 700 Club-featured single "Oh Lord Lead Us" that became Cain's biggest solo hit to date.
Last month, Cain released "Christmas Is Love" from Identity Records with The Fuel Music distribution. Produced and written by Cain with all but one track recorded, mixed and mastered at Addiction Sound Studios by David Kalmusky (Justin Bieber, THE FRAY, Keith Urban),the EP is a five-song holiday offering highlighting the remarkable story of the birth of Jesus in the opening track, "Hope Was Born", and marveling at the miracle in "Who Is This Child" while underscoring the core message in the title track.
Along with his solo music, Cain wrote and recorded new music with his band JOURNEY, releasing "Freedom", the band's first album of all new songs in over a decade, in July. Cain has written or co-written such massive radio hits as "Faithfully", "Who's Crying Now", "Open Arms" and the best-selling catalog rock song in iTunes' history, "Don't Stop Believin'".
The last few years have been some of the most productive in Cain's prolific career. He has released "What God Wants To Hear" (2016),"Unsung Noel" (2017),"The Songs You Leave Behind" (2018),"More Like Jesus" (2019),"Piano Worship" (2020) and "Arise" (2022). He also authored a Rolling Stone-lauded, Publishers Weekly-bestselling memoir, "Don't Stop Believin': The Man, The Band, And The Song That Inspired Generations" (2018),which chronicles his early days with THE BABYS and his accomplishments with JOURNEY and BAD ENGLISH.

DISTURBED's JOHN MOYER: 'We're Always Gonna Be A Hard Rock, Heavy Metal Band That's Angry'DISTURBED bassist John Moyer spoke to the Danny Wimmer Presents show "Power Hour" about the band's recently released eighth studio album, "Divisive". The LP was recorded earlier this year with producer Drew Fulk (MOTIONLESS IN WHITE, LIL PEEP, HIGHLY SUSPECT) in Nashville, Tennessee.
"It's really interesting 'cause the last album, as you recall, was [2018's] 'Evolution'," he said. "And 'Evolution', almost half that record was kind of acoustic. We were really pushing ourselves to do something different, and we had some great tracks off that — 'A Reason To Fight', 'Hold On To Memories'. And it's great, because now our live show has these acoustic moments that go along with [our cover of SIMON & GARFUNKEL's] 'The Sound Of Silence'. But at the end of the day, we're always gonna be a hard rock, heavy metal band that's angry. And so this record, it wasn't even forced; it was, like, 'This is where we're at now. We did that. Let's get back to our roots. Let's get that heavy…' I think David is sounding the best — David Draiman, our singer for DISTURBED — I think he's never sounded better. He sounds incredibly powerful. Nothing is over-produced. It's very visceral. His lyrics are just on fire.
"People talk about the fact that, like, 'Oh, you guys have had some success. How can you still be angry?' Just look around at the world, bro," he continued. "There's plenty to be angry about and talk about. And someone like David Draiman, he's a really smart guy; he really stays informed.
"I say this a lot about DISTURBED. I think a lot of people get into DISTURBED because of the music. Dan's [Donegan] a really heavy, powerful guitar player. No one really plays drums like Mikey [Wengren]. Mikey and Dan have this syncopation that they do together. And me, I'm just there laying as thick a bass as I can to support these guys. And I think that's why people get into DISTURBED. But I think people stay because of the messages that David puts in those lyrics. And I think this new 'Divisive' record is filled with all kinds of powerful messages that our fans — and not just our fans, but even new fans — would really like."
Donegan's divorce inspired the "Divisive" song "Don't Tell Me", which is a duet with HEART's Ann Wilson. In two decades, it breaks ground as the first-ever guest collaboration on a DISTURBED record.
According to Billboard, "Divisive" sold 26,000 equivalent album units in its first week of release, with 22,000 units via album sales.
On the all-format Billboard 200 chart, "Divisive" debuted at No. 13.
DISTURBED has had five No. 1s on the all-genre chart, beginning with "Believe" in 2002.
Draiman previously stated about the "Divisive" album title: "Partisan tribal warfare has become a part of our regular existence nowadays. It's one big battle of the cliques. The whole idea of the record is to be a wakeup call for everyone. Our society has become addicted to outrage. Music is the best cure for what ails us though. If only everyone reached out and used it. There's no better environment to forget about all of this shit than live music. We can be together and realize we have more in common than not. Recognize what's happening and let's make a change for the better."
Donegan added: "Whatever it takes, we've got to pull it together. We've always tried to take negative topics and spin them in a positive light. From touring around the world, we've seen the power of music as the universal language to bring everyone together from all walks of life. We can still play songs to unite people, and it's a pretty powerful feeling."

TEN Streaming New Single "Look For The Rose"UK hard rock stalwarts, Ten, used the downtime during the worldwide pandemic to work on not one, but two new albums. The first album to be released, Here Be Monsters, landed on February 18 via Frontiers Music Srl. The second album of the two, Something Wicked This Way Comes, will be released on January 20.
Listen to the album opener, "Look For The Rose", below, and pre-order/save Something Wicked This Way Comes here.
Following the success of the recent string of albums, from Albion to Illuminati, Hughes was joined once again by guitarists Dann Rosingana and Steve Grocott along with bass player Steve McKenna, keyboard maestro Darrel Treece-Birch and guest drummer Markus Kullman (Sinner, Glenn Hughes, Voodoo Circle) for the recording of Something Wicked This Way Comes. Ten continue to raise the musical bar higher for themselves, a goal they push on every release. Stunning guitar work, rich keyboards, excellent bass and drum interplay along with Hughes’ rich vocals are the order of the day here, as they were on this album's immediate predecessor, Here Be Monsters.
Something Wicked This Way Comes was produced by Gary Hughes and mixed and mastered by Dennis Ward. Ten’s longstanding professional association with Dennis has been ongoing since he mixed their 2011 album, Stormwarning and has always guaranteed albums with stunning sound and production.
Fans should note that there are no ties between Something Wicked This Way Comes and Here Be Monsters or anything of this nature. The band simply crafted two high quality releases and decided to put them out separately, in a fashion not too dissimilar to what happened with their amazing first two records which were recorded one after the other in a very short period of time.
Ten have an outstanding history of releases in their storied and revered catalog. Starting out as a sort of solo project built around singer and songwriter Gary Hughes, Ten found their audience playing a hard rock sound influenced by such giants as UFO, Thin Lizzy, Magnum, Giant, and Whitesnake in a time when playing this particular sound was considered commericial suicide. The band's early records such as The Name Of The Rose, The Robe, Spellbound, and Babylon established the band as mainstays in the melodic hard rock genre, which has continued throughout their now 26 year career over the course of 15 studio albums.

GENE SIMMONS Says He Hasn't Sold His Crypto Holdings Despite Market DropKISS bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons says that he has not sold any of his 14 cryptocurrencies since the onset of the so-called "crypto winter."
Simmons addressed his fondness for digital assets while speaking briefly to Crypto HouseWife on December 8, 2022 at Sobeys Liquor Store in Royal Oak, Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He said: "Well, I'm not gonna suggest or recommend anything; I'm not a financial advisor. But since you're asking me, yes, I'm deep in crypto. I believe in it. I've got bitcoin, litecoin, ethereum." Personally, I'm holding, but everybody should do their own due diligence."
In the past, Simmons has said that he was "in [crypto] big" and that he had "done really well." He said: "Since the downturn, I have not sold a single position. I have faith in the future. The near future."
In a May 2022 interview with American Songwriter, Simmons called cryptocurrency "a game-changer. Governments, as you know, now print money whenever they need it," he said. "So, inflation keeps getting bigger and bigger. The dollar used to be based on gold and you can lose a dollar. You can't lose your crypto currency, unless, of course, you lose what's called your 'code wallet,' or your password. Banks have nothing to say about it. Governments have nothing to say about it. The world is changing. It's probably time. Probably time to do that instead of keep cutting trees down and making paper so that we can give it to each other. But credit cards and wiring funds probably were the start of that."
The cryptocurrency market has come under pressure over the last few weeks as problems at major exchange FTX came to light.
November was a particularly catastrophic month for crypto, with bitcoin's price dropping from over $20,000 to under $16,000 in a matter of days, and ethereum seeing a similar decline.
In the past several months, the crypto market value has decreased by more than $1 trillion as a result of a significant and continuous sell-off.
A recent CNBC All-America Economic Survey showed 43% of the public with a negative view of cryptocurrencies, up from 25% in March.
Around 16% of Americans say they invested in cryptocurrencies, according to a poll from Pew Research Center last year.
Re Crypto currencies: (Write it down.) I Am A HODLER. I have not sold a single position since the downturn. I believe in the future. The Near Future.

PANTERA Performs Without REX BROWN At KNOTFEST CHILEPANTERA performed earlier today (Sunday, December 11) at Knotfest Chile in Santiago without bassist Rex Brown. Filling in for him was CATTLE DECAPITATION bassist Derek Engemann, who also plays with PANTERA singer Philip Anselmo in both PHILIP H. ANSELMO & THE ILLEGALS and SCOUR.
In an official statement, the Knotfest Chile organizers blamed Brown's absence on his "health problems." However, local radio station Futuro reported that Brown missed the Santiago gig after contracting COVID-19. Rex reportedly flew from Bogotá, Colombia, where PANTERA performed at Knotfest Colombia on Friday (December 9),back home to the United States to quarantine, thereby missing the remainder of the PANTERA shows in South America.
Joining surviving members Brown and Anselmo in PANTERA's reformed lineup are guitarist Zakk Wylde (OZZY OSBOURNE, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY) and drummer Charlie Benante (ANTHRAX).
Benante shared a short video of the Santiago concert and included the following message: "#chile was on fire!!!! We missed Rex tonight , get better buddy! Damn it was a hot one".
Photos and video of today's concert can be found below.
PANTERA is next scheduled to play a headlining concert in Santiago on Monday (December 12),followed by two shows in São Paulo, Brazil — on Thursday, December with JUDAS PRIEST and on Sunday, December 18 at Knotfest Brasil.
The new PANTERA lineup made its live debut on December 2 at Mexico's Hell & Heaven Metal Fest and also performed on December 6 at Monterrey Metal Fest in Monterrey, Mexico.
It was first reported in July that Anselmo and Brown would unite with Wylde and Benante for a world tour under the PANTERA banner.
The band will headline a number of major festivals across North America and Europe and stage some of their own headline concerts. They will also support METALLICA on a massive North American stadium tour in 2023 and 2024.
According to Billboard, the lineup has been given a green light by the estates of the band's founders, drummer Vincent "Vinnie Paul" Abbott and guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, as well as Brown, who last year said Wylde wouldn't tour with PANTERA if a reunion were to happen. It's unclear what changed his mind.
Up until his passing, Vinnie remained on non-speaking terms with Anselmo, whom the drummer indirectly blamed for Dimebag's death.
Vinnie Paul and Dimebag co-founded PANTERA. When PANTERA broke up in 2003, they formed DAMAGEPLAN. On December 8, 2004, while performing with DAMAGEPLAN at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, Ohio, Dimebag was shot and killed onstage by a troubled schizophrenic who believed that the members of PANTERA were stealing his thoughts.
Vinnie passed away on June 22, 2018 at his other home in Las Vegas at the age of 54. He died of dilated cardiomyopathy, an enlarged heart, as well as severe coronary artery disease. His death was the result of chronic weakening of the heart muscle — basically meaning his heart couldn't pump blood as well as a healthy heart.
