This past summer FnA Records released Come Hell Or Hollywood 1981-1982 by Steeler. The compilation is a collection of pre-Yngwie Malmsteen demos recorded by the band while they were hungry for a record deal. Metal Express Radio’s George Dionne talks in-depth with frontman Ron Keel about the album, as well as the hardships Steeler faced in the beginning, making the transition to the band Keel, and his various projects since Keel’s last album.

Keel: "I remember a lot of times we would go into the studio ('81, '82): we were so green, we didn't know what we were doing. Sometimes you got it and sometimes you didn't. Some of these recordings were done pretty much live in reherasal, so we would record demos at home because we couldn't afford to go into the studio."

Before Mötley Crüe, Quiet Riot and Ratt were platinum… Steeler was “American Metal”.

FnA Records adds to their classic catalog with the release of Steeler: Come Hell Or Hollywood, a collection of remastered rare recordings from 1981-1982. Many of these pre-Yngwie tracks have never been made public, and the album features a “lost” version of the Steeler anthem “Cold Day In Hell” as well as unheard versions of the Rolling Stones’ “Let’s Spend The Night Together” (the only cover song Steeler ever played) and fan favorite “Backseat Driver”.

While the release is the brainchild of original Steeler guitarist Michael Dunigan, Ron Keel and the FnA Records staff worked closely together on this project to present these recordings in their proper context. “It’s like walking the streets of a heavy metal ghost town,” Ron Keel explains. “There’s historical value here, and this magical moment in time needs to be properly preserved and shared. There are those that lived the Hollywood heyday with us, and those this missed it – this album is dedicated to all of them.”

“Many of these tracks are medium rare, and others are absolutely raw – but thanks to FnA, the project is well done. We were helping give birth to a cultural revolution, and childbirth is ugly, messy and painful; it’s also one of the most beautiful things you’ll ever experience. I was just learning how to sing and write songs in 1981-82.”

In addition to releasing this album on CD, FnA Records has also unleashed an exclusive limited-edition 7” vinyl single (in both Black and Blue vinyl pressings) featuring the song “American Metal” (the first song ever recorded by Steeler, in Nashville in 1981). The CD and vinyl single are offered with merchandise bundles that include collector’s guitar picks, bumper stickers, Steeler patches and autographed photos. The CD packaging features a massive 28-page scrapbook-style booklet packed with rare photos, flyers, personal liner notes written by Keel and guitarist Michael Dunigan, magazine clippings and other memories. FnA is releasing a series of promotional videos to accompany Come Hell Or Hollywood and mark the 40th anniversary of Steeler, one of the '80s seminal bands.

“This is a huge victory for FnA Records to bring this project to the fans,” acknowledged FnA’s Steve Lockett. “We’ve been working hard on this release for two years now, and I’ve enjoyed working with Michael Dunigan and Ron Keel to create a very special time capsule of their early 80’s music and experiences.”

SHINEDOWN frontman Brent Smith has revealed that he and his bandmates are currently building a new recording studio in Charleston, South Carolina. The new facility, which is being spearheaded by the group's bassist and producer Eric Bass, will be used to record the follow-up to SHINEDOWN's 2018 album "Attention Attention".

In a November 19 Instagram video, Smith stated about the musical and lyrical direction of the new SHINEDOWN material: "I think that it is definitely — there are parts of it that are gonna be a product of what we are all going through this year. But there's also a lot of soul searching on this record. [We're] really, really focusing super, super hard on the lyrical content, and the way that it sounds.

"For us to look at everything that's going on right now and to listen to some of the new-school artists and seeing what they're doing with production and what have you, you can always learn from different people," he continued. "It's interesting the state of kind of where music is right now, 'cause there's a lot of it."

Brent went on to clarify that SHINEDOWN is "not done" writing the songs for the next LP. "I'd say we're, like, 40 percent there in regards to the writing process," he said. "We'll see by the end of the year where we're at, and then the timeline for getting everything together."

Two months ago, Smith told the KLOS radio show "Whiplash" that he and Bass were looking to make a more organic-sounding album this time around.

"We've kind of proven that we can make these very large records, these very cinematic, orchestrated records with this wall of sound," he said. "What we wanna try to do with this album is we do want to hone it back down to drums, bass, guitar and vocals and the best songs that we can write and the freshest songs we can write with the most tenacity and the most ferociousness that we can express. So I don't think this time around we're going to necessarily look at the handbook of, 'Let's layer this record like we've layered other records, and let's keep adding to it so that it grows.' I think more the idea of big mono on this album, it's more about stereo and putting all of the sonics down the middle. But you don't have a hundred tracks on a song; you don't take a 22-piece orchestra and bring it in there. We've done that, and we've done those kinds of records, and we love those records, and we love that sound, but I think what we wanna do with this next record is we really want to focus on being a four-piece band, and let's see if we can peel the paint off of the walls with just the fury of the four of us in a room."

This past August, SHINEDOWN broke the record for the most No. 1s ever in the 39-year history of the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs chart, scoring its 16th No. 1 hit with "Atlas Falls". This also marked the band's 17th No. 1 on the Mediabase Active Rock chart and its sixth consecutive No. 1, following "How Did You Love", "Devil", "Get Up", "Monsters" and "Attention Attention".

Originally written in 2013, "Atlas Falls" was first made available from SHINEDOWN's vault in March as part of an exclusive song and T-shirt bundle for the band's COVID-19 fundraising effort.

Much of the world will be spending New Year’s Eve sequestered from one another in quarantine. KISS, however, will be blowing up 2020 in 100 feet of flames in a lavish, decadent, record-breaking (and Covid-safe) rock and roll livestream in Dubai, reports Ethan Millman of Rolling Stone.

The group is plotting one of the highest production livestream experiences of the Covid-era, with a 250-foot stage, 50 surrounding 4k cameras, and what the band hopes will set the Guinness World Record for the biggest-ever pyro show. KISS will be performing outdoors from Dubai’s Atlantis Hotel, and while a majority of fans will watch by stream, several thousand hotel attendees will be viewing from their balconies.

“Frankly, I wasn’t interested in doing a stream on the level of Live at the Troubadour in L.A.,” frontman Paul Stanley says. “Not that those aren’t good, but they aren’t KISS. Either we do this right, or we don’t do it. For us, size matters.”

Such an extravagant affair doesn’t come cheap. The whole setup will cost almost eight figures, according to show director Dan Catullo, whose company Landmarks Live is producing the concert. The pyrotechnics alone are nearly $1 million, and Covid compliancy expenses for the 400-some workers putting the show together total another $750,000.

Stanley and KISS bassist / vocalist Gene Simmons have both spent most of the past eight months isolating with their families and have been vocal online about the importance of socially distancing and wearing masks. The band won’t see one another outside of the show and rehearsals, and everyone will be seated in their own separate cabin rooms when flying to Dubai.

“I’m going to put on my mask and goggles and put on a body condom and just cover myself,” Simmons says with a chuckle. “We can kid around about it, but this is deadly serious. It’s really sad that apparently there’s a large segment of the population who just don’t believe it. It’s difficult to believe until it happens to your family.”

Austin Ingerman, a solo artist as well the lead guitar player for the band New Years Day,
released a new single titled "Stampede" along with an accompanying video via Intercept Music.

"Stampede" is the second release from a collection of instrumental songs recorded over the last three years in four different studios around the country. This particular one was recorded at Clearwave Studio in Decatur, Alabama by producer / engineer Jeremy Stephens. It was mixed and mastered by Chris Collier (Whitesnake, Korn, Lynchmob, KXM). 

Austin has toured with bands such as Halestorm, Godsmack, In This Moment, Falling In Reverse, and many more. He has played some of the world's most famous venues and festivals such as the Alexandra Palace in London, and Download Australia.

Austin started playing guitar at age 7 in his hometown of Gainesville, Florida. At 17 he got the opportunity to start playing out professionally in working cover bands. He toured the southeast playing the hottest clubs, festivals, private parties, and arenas for about six years before moving out west.

At age 22, he moved to Los Angeles, California to attend the world famous Musicians Institute. After moving to L.A., he was chosen to do a video with Boss to debut their brand new Katana amplifier line. Boss also hired him as a demo artist at NAMM 2017, 2018, and 2020. In December of 2017 he graduated from Musicians Institute with an AA in guitar performance, and received the award for "outstanding player of 2017." He is currently recording, and releasing new solo material with the help of drummer James Renshaw and producer / engineer Chris Collier.

Austrian black metallers Theotoxin have revealed their new video "Philosopher". The track hails from the band's third album, Fragment : Erhabenheit, released this past September via AOP Records. 

With the intention of creating supreme black metal art, Theotoxin ascended from the catacombs of Vienna, Austria in 2016. A quintet featuring members of Zombie Inc., Selbstentleibung, and now-labelmates Anomalie, this strong lineup of musicians has been well tested on tour all over Europe.

In 2017, Theotoxin self-released their debut album, Atramentvm, and kept writing new material, which led to the release of the successor Consilivm (Massacre Records) just a year later. Plenty of live appearances and a tour through Europe followed, further honing the band’s considerable chops. On those stages did the band deliver a throttling live show with deep atmosphere; the name Theotoxin began to spread.

Now aligned with longtime fans AOP Records, Theotoxin are eager to spread their black chants even further with their strongest album yet. Bearing the thematic title of Fragment : Erhabenheit, Theotoxin’s third album is both a consolidation of the band’s strengths as well as an extension of new ones. Much like their intense onstage performances, the violence is palpable – almost overwhelmingly so – and is doled out with the ease of experienced masters. Equally so, however, a chilling melodicism rises from this physicality which puts Fragment : Erhabenheit in rarefied territory: a paradoxically refreshing (re)iteration of second-wave black metal classicism. It’s as much mid ‘90s as it is Now, and Theotoxin simply make it look all too easy.

David Coverdale has revealed plans to remix and reissues his later WHITESNAKE albums in a "musically embellished" form. He also confirmed that has been in contact with Jimmy Page about a 30th-anniversary re-release of their eponymous collaboration. Coverdale made the comments while talking to Eonmusic about WHITESNAKE's "Love Songs" set, which is due in November via Rhino.

Speaking about the securing the services of keys player David Sherinian and his work bringing 1989's "Slip Of The Tongue" up to date, Coverdale said: "One of the things that's very noticeable; it's all '80s keyboards, which I can't stand. They totally date it. Thank god, I found Derek Sherinian, who — and I know he won't mind me saying this — Derek's like the illegitimate son of Jon Lord. And he respects the work he's doing — which is huge — and the material's very strong, so he just played his ass off for us, and you can hear it."

David went on to say that Sherinian, as well as current WHITESNAKE guitarist Joel Hoekstra were utilized for a forthcoming reissue of 1997 album "Restless Heart", which is expected to hit the racks in 2021.

"When were finishing off David Coverdale's solo album [in 1997], the new powers that be at EMI flew to Reno and sat me down and said, 'We want this to be a WHITESNAKE record.' And I said, 'It's mad! Some tracks are very rocky, but it's more like, soulful.' So, we did the best we could in terms of the mix, and then they agreed to do 'David Coverdale & WHITESNAKE'. That's how it started; we turned up Adrian's [Vandenberg] guitars, and the drums, and then I was unhappy with the mastering, sadly, so it was a frustrating record for me."

He continued; "We've been tweaking that in the studio, and it's going to be mastered soon for vinyl. The box set of that's going to be, I think, May-June next year. It's fucking kick-ass, and when we rerelease it, it is going to be under 'WHITESNAKE'; it's not going to be that ridiculous 'David Coverdale & WHITESNAKE.' We've embellished it so much with Joel Hoekstra and with Derek Sherinian, and it's much tougher; it's much more WHITESNAKE. I don't have that confusion of half a David Coverdale album."

Going on to talk about progress on plans to reissue 1993's well-received COVERDALE PAGE set, David said: "Well, my time with Jimmy was amazing. We spoke a couple of weeks ago. In fact, I'm probably going to speak to him this weekend. I think we're probably going to be looking at an anniversary issue in '23."

On the content that might go into a COVERDALE PAGE deluxe edition, Coverdale said: "I think you're in for some nice surprises. Jimmy and I have been talking about it, and we'll have the original album remastered, and we've got a bunch of songs we didn't release, and I videoed most of the writing and recording scenario, and all the way to the shows in Osaka and stuff, so there's a shitload of content. But one of the things I suggested to him, I said, 'Why don't you do a Jimmy Page mix on the record, and I'll do a David Coverdale mix, and let the fans just get Jimmy's perspective, and mine?'"

Wolfgang Van Halen has once again shot down a rumor that a new version of VAN HALEN is being assembled featuring him on guitar in place of his late father.

Late last month, a rumor started to make the rounds via a Wolfgang Van Halen private group on Facebook that the VAN HALEN "camp" was discussing the possibility of the band carrying with a revamped lineup that would consist of Sammy Hagar on vocals, Michael Anthony on bass, Alex Van Halen on drums and Wolfgang on guitar. Furthermore, it was suggested that Eddie Van Halen told his son and brother "I give you my blessing" with regard to the prospect of VAN HALEN continuing without him.

During an appearance earlier today (Monday, November 16) on SiriusXM's "The Howard Stern Show", Wolfgang addressed the rumor saying: "That's fucking stupid. You can't have VAN HALEN without Eddie Van Halen. I'm not my dad. I'm not going to replace him. I've spent my life making sure I'm not like him; I'm my own person. My dad, he'd be pissed off. He'd be, like, 'What the fuck are you doing? Go do your own shit.'"

According to Wolfgang, the rumors of a VAN HALEN reunion were started by "desperate fans — which I understand. They wanna see the music continue," he said. "But some things just suck, and this is one of those things.

"You can't have VAN HALEN without Eddie Van Halen, in my opinion," he repeated. "Outside of maybe a tribute show at some point down the line, and archival releases further down the line, it's done. You can't have that without him.

"I don't have a dad anymore, and I'm coming to terms with that; I'm trying to figure out how to deal with that," Wolfgang added. "So I think the fans can try and come to terms with and figure out how to deal with the fact that we're not gonna have VAN HALEN anymore. The music is gonna live on forever, but you can't continue without Eddie Van Halen."

Hagar replaced David Lee Roth in VAN HALEN in 1985 and recorded four studio albums with the band — "5150", "OU812", "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge" and "Balance" — all of which topped the U.S. chart.

Sammy, Eddie, Alex and Michael last teamed up in 2004 for a U.S. summer tour. In exchange for taking part in the tour, Anthony reportedly had to agree to take a pay cut and sign away his rights to the band name and logo.

Early last year, rumors were rampant that the classic-era lineup of VAN HALEN would reunite for the first time since 1984. It has since been revealed that a health setback involving Eddie was responsible for the tour not materializing.

Eddie died on October 6 at St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica, California.

The iconic VAN HALEN axeman died from complications due to cancer, his son confirmed.

Wolfgang has just released "Distance", the first music from his solo band MAMMOTH WVH. A full-length album will arrive in 2021 via Explorer1 Music Group/EX1 Records.

PEARL JAM frontman Eddie Vedder performed two solo songs as part of the virtual fundraising event "Venture Into Cures" on November 18.

In addition to the new track "Matter Of Time", Vedder played an updated version of "Say Hi", a song originally written for Eli Meyer, a brave six-year-old afflicted with Junctional Epidermolysis Bullosa.

Additionally, Eddie shared an animated music video for the powerful, passionate and poetic "Matter Of Time" and live video for "Say Hi", an oft-sought after live favorite now officially available for the first time. Plus, a special pre-order just went live for the limited-edition "Matter of Time"/"Say Hi" seven-inch vinyl, releasing soon.

The event, organized by Eddie and his wife Jill, featured uplifting stories about individuals and families living with Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) alongside appearances and performances from celebrity friends to educate viewers about EB and raise critical funds for research toward a cure for EB and other rare diseases.

"Ed and I are incredibly grateful to everyone joining us for Venture Into Cures," said Jill Vedder. "Every day kids with EB and their families face astonishing challenges. This event will give people a glimpse into their world. EBRP's mission is to find a cure for EB, and this event will help bring us one step closer to making that mission a reality by adding momentum to the work being done."

EB is a life-threatening genetic disorder that affects approximately 500,000 people worldwide. Called "Butterfly Children" because their skin is as fragile as the wings of a butterfly, children with EB face severe pain, open external and internal wounds, and a grueling daily bandaging process. There is currently no treatment or cure for EB, however EBRP's innovative Venture Philanthropy model is helping to fast-track not only a cure for EB, but therapies that could affect thousands of other rare diseases.

As the largest global organization supporting EB research, EBRP has funded 80 projects through their innovative model, directly impacting the clinical landscape. Former GUNS N' ROSES and current SIXX:A.M. guitarist DJ Ashba creatively combines multiple genres with EDM into one unique, explosive sound as he continues his adventurous journey into an exciting genre. Now, ASHBA brings holiday cheer to the dance floor with his new single "A Christmas Storm", the official music video for which can be seen below. An instrumental mashup of holiday classics such as "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen", "Carol Of The Bells", "Joy To The World" and "Hark The Herald Angels Sing", the song is mixed and mastered by three-time Grammy nominee Luca Pretolesi of Studio DMI (Steve Aoki, Diplo, Lil Jon).

Ashba told the Las Vegas Review-Journal about the musicial approach of his new effort: "I would go to a lot of EDM concerts, and their shows are so over the top and, you know, all these young kids just losing their minds, right? And the one thing that I've noticed is … it lacks guitar, you know, and I saw an opportunity, like five years ago, going, 'If I could take what I do and somehow inject it into this world.' A lot of kids are not being exposed to a lot of guitar in that world."

Previously released singles "Hypnotic" and "Let's Dance" will appear on ASHBA's first full-length effort. According to DJ, he will promote the LP by embarking on a tour on which he will be joined only by a VJ.

"The one thing I've noticed is the lack of performance. Now, that excludes a lot of the good ones, like Aoki — there's nobody like him, and Diplo, and Calvin Harris's brilliance is amazing," Ashba told Las Vegas Review-Journal. "But I'm but I'm talking about performances as far people bringing an instrument onstage."

Although Ashba initially started work on the project as a collaboration with Michael — under the band name PYROMANTIC — it has since evolved into an Ashba solo venture, with Michael announcing in 2018 that he was stepping away from the group.

AC/DC's latest album, "Power Up", has topped the U.K. chart with the biggest first-week tally of 2020 so far.

Notching up 62,000 chart sales, the legendary hard rockers have comfortably taken their place at the top of the 2020 leaderboard of fastest-selling albums, overtaking Kylie Minogue, who racked up 55,000 chart sales of "Disco" just last week, and is this week's No. 5.

Celebrating the band's chart victory, AC/DC's Angus Young tells OfficialCharts.com: "A very big thank you to everyone who put in their time, effort and creativity to get 'Power Up' to No. 1! Also a big shoutout to all our fans, old and new. You are, and always have been, our guiding inspiration."

"Power Up" is AC/DC's first U.K. No. 1 since the 2010 soundtrack album "Iron Man 2". The legendary hard rockers also topped the chart with 1980's "Back In Black" and 2008's "Black Ice".

In the U.S., "Power Up", is expected to shift between 105,000 and 115,000 equivalent album units in its first week of release. Of that sum, between 100,000 and 110,000 are projected to be in traditional album sales.

Back in December 2014, AC/DC's previous album, "Rock Or Bust", sold around 172,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 3 on The Billboard 200 chart. This marked a huge drop from the opening number of AC/DC's 2008 CD, "Black Ice", which topped sales charts in 29 countries, including the U.S., where it sold an incredible 784,288 in its first week — making it the band's first-ever No. 1 debut on the U.S. album chart. "Black Ice" went on to sell another 270,923 units in its second week, bringing the first two weeks' sales in the U.S. to over 1 million copies. Sold exclusively at Walmart, Sam's Club and ACDC.com in the U.S., "Black Ice" quickly became the biggest-selling rock record of 2008.

"Power Up" features AC/DC's 2020 lineup of Brian Johnson (vocals), Phil Rudd (drums), Cliff Williams (bass), Angus Young (guitar) and Stevie Young (guitar).

The LP was recorded over a six-week period in August and September 2018 at Warehouse Studios in Vancouver with producer Brendan O'Brien, who also worked 2008's "Black Ice" and 2014's "Rock Or Bust".

"Power Up" is available in multiple configurations, including digital, CD, and deluxe versions. The limited edition, one-of-a-kind deluxe "Power Up" box is the ultimate fan package. Hit the button on the side of the box and watch the flashing neon AC/DC logo light up while the opening bars of "Shot In The Dark" blast out of the built-in speaker. Inside the box is the full CD package in a soft-pack with a 20-page booklet that features exclusive photos and USB charging cable allowing the box to remain powered up and on display. Set to take place on November 25 at 6:00 p.m. Central/7:00 p.m. Eastern with on-demand replays through November 29, the eight-camera, cinematic experience will find the ensemble performing at the historic Orpheum Theater in New Orleans, Louisiana. Built in 1918, and opened for Vaudeville in 1921, the magnificent Beaux-Arts-style building went on to host silent movies, "talkies," live music, and much more. The auditorium is currently the home of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra and is prized for its acoustical purity. The theater is an example of "vertical hall" construction, initially built to provide perfect sight lines and acoustics for Vaudeville shows which didn't have the benefit of amplifiers or modern lighting.

Comments Anselmo: "To play a beautiful room like The Orpheum with all my guys in this particular band, and for the rest of the world to be able to watch, is a dream come true. This is honestly a once-in-a-lifetime gig."

EN MINOR released its full-length debut, "When The Cold Truth Has Worn Its Miserable Welcome Out", in September via Housecore in the U.S. and Season Of Mist in Europe.

A project inadvertently in the making since Anselmo's earliest days as a child in the French Quarter, EN MINOR is an experimental and eclectic musical endeavor that finds the legendary frontman exploring a softer, graver vocal style, delivering brooding tales of pain, remorse, and sorrow. The band released a self-titled seven-inch EP this summer via Housecore Records, with a proper full-length to see official unveiling in the New Year.

"The initial strains — in the most primitive sense — came about when I was given my first guitar at nine-years old," relays Anselmo of the EN MINOR project. "I didn't have the patience to learn other people's music, so I wrote my own. And some of those early parts are still prevalent in the songs we're working with now. Fast forward to 1988 when I bought my first four-track recorder; those old songs took on a new life and newer songs were written. Heavy metal was at the forefront of my performance-based output, but these little four-track songs were always there. I always had an apprehension about allowing them to be heard though, because they were so different; only a small circle of close friends got to hear them."

By 1993, Anselmo moved back to his hometown of New Orleans and his home became an instant magnet for local musicians and artists. "At ungodly hours, these old four-track songs took on an even newer life jamming with these cats," he says. "We learned a few of the songs and wrote several more, and soon we were recording under the moniker BODY & BLOOD. We wrote more songs, all recorded on a newer model four-track. It was fun. We did it for the vibe. And it was pleasing to break away from multi-tracking studios and heavy metal. Metal music consumed most of our time and lives. Those 'B&B' sessions were damned-near therapeutic."

Without a clear plan for the band, the project remained a periodic therapy session. "We kept things simple and just jammed when everyone was home and played our recordings for friends," he says. "Then I eventually moved again, Hurricane Katrina hit, and life sent all of us in different directions."

In 2012, Anselmo met Stephen "Schteve" Taylor and EN MINOR truly took shape. "He and I began experimenting with some vibey stuff, and soon after began recording the sessions," Anselmo says. "This led to the current incarnation of EN MINOR. Together, we re-worked a few of the old four-track songs and wrote several new ones in short order. These sessions are hypnotic and pulling. And we continue to write songs suitable for this project to this day. Ugly and beautiful, EN MINOR, isn't 'party music.' This is 'kill the party music.'"

Earlier this year, SEPULTURA launched "SepulQuarta", a weekly event where the band gives insight into its colorful history, take part in question-and-answer sessions with fans and performs music while in quarantine. In the latest video, which can be seen below, SEPULTURA plays through the song "Arise", which was the title track of the band's fourth album, released in 1991.

SEPULTURA's latest LP, "Quadra", was released in February via Nuclear Blast Records. It is a concept effort created at Sweden's Fascination Street Studios with renowned producer Jens Bogren.

SEPULTURA comprises vocalist Derrick Green, guitarist Andreas Kisser, bassist Paulo Xisto Pinto Jr., and drummer Eloy Casagrande.

Kisser previously stated about working with Bogren on "Quadra": "He is so full of passion, it's unbelievable, man. He's really there, he really cares about the projects he's doing. For SEPULTURA, he's like the fifth member of the band. The chemistry was so amazing, 99 percent of what we were trying do to actually worked. That was insane!"

Green added: "The experience was like no other time in the studio. I felt the preparation was key in making the recording process go as smooth as possible. We were relentless each day giving everything that we had until complete exhaustion of the mind, body, and soul. This album is a direct result of the sign of times. The music is an evolution needed to push ourselves to go further than we ever have."

SEPULTURA was formed in Belo Horizonte by brothers Max and Igor Cavalera, who are no longer with the band.

"Quadra" is the follow-up to "Machine Messiah", which was SEPULTURA's fourteenth studio album and the eighth since Green joined the ranks.

Bonhams is auctioning off the drum kit that late RUSH drummer Neil Peart used on tour and in the studio with the band from 1974 through 1977.

Although RUSH had formed as early as 1968 and had even released its eponymous debut album, it wasn't until original drummer John Rutsey left and Peart stepped in that the band's flame was truly ignited. It went from a blues and hard rock band whose first album was considered derivative of LED ZEPPELIN to a platinum-selling progressive rock powerhouse. Peart not only provided the basis for more complex song structures with his masterful drumming, but by taking over as a lyricist, he freed bassist/vocalist Geddy Lee and guitarist Alex Lifeson from a duty they had never wanted so that they could focus on bringing the collective musicianship to another level.

Peart reportedly arrived at his July 1974 audition with RUSH in a battered car, wearing shorts and transporting his drum kit in trash cans. Lee and Peart hit it off instantly, although it took Lifeson a bit longer to warm to warm to the drummer. Still, they eventually agreed to invite Peart into the band on July 29 of that year, two weeks before the group's first U.S. tour. Peart purchased a silver Slingerland drum kit from local music store Long & McQuade that he used on his first show with the band, opening for URIAH HEEP and MANFRED MANN'S EARTH BAND at the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh on August 14, 1974. He played this kit on the breakthrough "Fly By Night", "Caress Of Steel" and "2112", considered among the greatest progressive rock albums of all time. Probably the highest-profile live appearance of the kit was the three-night performance at Toronto's Massey Hall when the band's first live album "All The World's A Stage" was recorded. Peart was introduced at those shows as "the Professor on the drum kit" and his extended drum solo on "Working Man", played on the Slingerland kit, is legendary among fans.

"All The World's A Stage" marked the end of RUSH's first chapter and Peart's Slingerland drum kit was soon afterward retired. RUSH had gone from LED ZEPPELIN wannabes to a U.S. Top 40-charting band with a distinctive sound poised to win fans the world over. The Slingerland kit had been on the road for five consecutive U.S. and Canadian tours and was seen by thousands of fans from 1974 through 1977. Neil retired the kit at that time and placed it in storage where it sat until it was brought out a decade later as a prize in Modern Drummer magazine's "Neil Peart Drumset Giveaway."

METALLICA is nearly a month into "some pretty serious writing" sessions for its next studio album.

Drummer Lars Ulrich discussed the status of the creative process for the follow-up to 2016's "Hardwired… To Self-Destruct" in a Rolling Stone "Musicians On Musicians" chat between him folk-rock artist — and self-proclaimed and METALLICA fan — Phoebe Bridgers.

Speaking about the impact the greatest public health, political, and socioeconomic crisis of our lifetime has had on METALLICA's new music, Lars said: "We're three, four weeks into some pretty serious writing. And of all the shit — pandemics, fires, politics, race problems, and just fucking looking at the state of the world — it's so easy just to so fall into a depressive state. But writing always makes me feel enthusiastic about what's next. It's like, 'Fuck, there's an opportunity here to still make the best record, to still make a difference. To still do something that not even turns other people on, but turns me on.'"

Earlier this month, Lars told Kara Swisher at the CNBC Evolve Summit that he and his METALLICA bandmates have been working on new music for "the last six [to] eight weeks virtually." But he admitted that they have encountered a myriad of technical issues which have slowed their progress.

"Being a rock and roll band and working virtually is not super easy," Lars said. "Time delays, all these things make it really hard. The main thing we miss is being able to hear each other. [Laughs] So if we're all four in a room together, we can connect with each other and we can hear each other. If I'm playing here in San Francisco, and Kirk [Hammett] and James [Hetfield], our two guitar players, are either in O'ahu or Colorado, there are significant time delays. It's very hard for us to play at the same time. If I'm doing what we call steering, which means that I'm playing a beat and they're playing to me, I can't hear what they're playing, and vice versa. We can't all hear each other in a universal fashion. So there are some significant complications we have. Our recording team and our production team are speaking to software makers all over the world [about] how to crack the code on this. Nobody has quite figured it out yet."

In early May, the four members of METALLICA overcame social distancing to record a new version of their song "Blackened", with each member separated in his own home. The split-screen video was posted to the band's social media channels. That same month, Ulrich told Swedish talk show host Fredrik Skavlan that he and his bandmates were "sending ideas to each other via e-mail and via Zoom and [trying to] make music in these unusual situations."

In August, METALLICA broadcast a show to hundreds of drive-in and outdoor theaters across the U.S. and Canada, as part of the "Encore Drive-In Nights" series. The concert was filmed nearly three weeks earlier, on August 10, at the Gundlach Bundschu winery, about a 30-minute car ride from the band's headquarters in San Rafael, California, and was subsequently edited and mixed by the band's award-winning production team to the highest standards possible.

METALLICA's "Live & Acoustic From HQ: Helping Hands Concert & Auction" was streamed live from the band's headquarters last Saturday, November 14. The special acoustic show benefited METALLICA's All Within My Hands foundation.

Alex Van Halen's stage-played complete drum kit, which he used on VAN HALEN 1980 "Invasion" tour, is available for purchase from Reverb.com for $275,000. A portion of proceeds will go to charity.

The white Ludwig kit (see video below), which was used on more than 100 shows during the tour in support of VAN HALEN's "Women And Children First" album, was previously displayed at Cleveland, Ohio's Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame And Museum starting around nine years ago. Alex used the drum kit not only as a percussion instrument, but also as a visual art form. Working with various drum manufacturers, Alex custom-designed enormous and elaborate drum kits that reflected the group's musical sensibility and provided Alex the platform to shine. The kit features two custom articulated bass drums, each more than five feet long, in addition to an impressive array of floor toms, tom-toms, a gong and myriad cymbals.

Alex and his brother Eddie Van Halen formed a band called MAMMOTH in Pasadena, California in 1972, then renamed it VAN HALEN when singer David Lee Roth joined the group and, later, bassist Michael Anthony.

VAN HALEN was one of the biggest rock bands in the country in the 1980s, with hits like "Runnin' With The Devil", "Dance The Night Away", "Hot For Teacher", "Panama" and "Jump". The group, which later featured Sammy Hagar on vocals, was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2007.

The Van Halen family moved to Pasadena after emigrating to the U.S. from the Netherlands in 1962.

HALESTORM has demoed "about 60 ideas" for its next studio album.

Vocalist/guitarist Lzzy Hale offered an update on the progress of the songwriting sessions for the follow-up to 2018's "Vicious" during her Twitter #AskLzzyAnything session on Thursday (November 19).

Asked by one fan when we can expect to hear new music from HALESTORM, Lzzy responded: "We have about 60 ideas demoed... we are just trying to narrow it down to what is worthy of the new album."

This past September, Lzzy confirmed to U.K.'s Rock Sound that she has been using her coronavirus downtime to compose material for the new HALESTORM LP. "I've been writing, honestly, some of the best songs I've ever written, because I've just had the time, and there isn't any deadline and nobody's breathing down my neck, saying, 'Hey, where are those demos?'," she said.

"I haven't been home without a gig for this long in probably over 15 years, so that's a strange thing. I think in one way, I have the time, but in another way, I'm seeking that high out, I'm seeking that joy that I find from playing out live every night. I'm not writing for any other reason — I'm not writing for a deadline, I'm not writing for a record, even though technically I am; we are technically working on a new HALESTORM record. But I'm writing from such a position of joy right now, literally just getting excited about some small piece of music. And I'm taking more risks now, because I have the space and the time and I've settled into something. And I'm not even quite sure what that is, and I feel like it's gonna reveal itself maybe later, but right now, I'm in it, and it's exciting."

Asked what stage of the songwriting process the new HALESTORM album is and whether there is any material that is fully tracked, Lzzy said: "I have a lot that's fully tracked. It's kind of been a relay sport, because we're not all in the same room. So how it's pretty much been going is that, obviously, I have a studio down here, but I have two writing stations upstairs — one by a piano and then one just a simple rock rig with a guitar. So basically, I've been writing the song in its entirety in how I see fit, and then I pass the baton to my guitar player, and then I pass the baton to our rhythm section, and then we discuss it later. It's been really exciting. We have a lot that's finished, which I think is awesome.

"With this pandemic and the future kind of being unknown, at least for me, the way I'm feeling is that I'm living in the now," she explained. "I'm, like, hey, if this is the last song I ever write right now, I'm gonna finish it and I'm gonna enjoy every bit of it. I'm not gonna settle. I'm not writing for radio or what I think the fans wanna hear or what I think our label wants to hear, our management — whatever it is — I'm writing from an element of my truth. And I've always done that, but I think it's just peeling back another layer of that onion."

"Halestorm Reimagined", a collection of reworked HALESTORM original songs as well as a cover of "I Will Always Love You", the love ballad made famous by Whitney Houston and Dolly Parton, was made available in August.

Lzzy and her brother Arejay (drums) formed the band in 1998 while in middle school. Guitarist Joe Hottinger joined the group in 2003, followed by bassist Josh Smith in 2004.

In December 2018, HALESTORM was nominated for a "Best Rock Performance" Grammy Award for its song "Uncomfortable".

In 2012, the band won its first Grammy in the category of "Best Hard Rock/ Metal Performance" for "Love Bites (So Do I)". According to the Grammy web site, Lzzy became the first woman to earn a Grammy in the category.

In a new interview with the FM99 WNOR radio station, BUSH frontman Gavin Rossdale was asked what it was like for a U.K.-based band to have its debut album, 1994 "Sixteen Stone", help define radio-friendly alternative rock in America in the immediate post-grunge period. He responded (see video below): "It was just a mind-messup, because we just came from literal obscurity to being on the radio and having a hit song, 'Everything Zen', and being put in that genre of music when we were from London. So it was a mind-messupper, and it was a beautiful thing, and it's what propelled me to here. So it's something I'm eternally grateful for."

Last month, BUSH has announced two drive-in shows across Southern California to celebrate the October 30 release of "The Kingdom Deluxe Edition". The record features six bonus songs, including "Heroes", a special tribute to David Bowie, as well as live performances of the title track "The Kingdom" and hard-charging single "Flowers On A Grave", which went Top 10 on Active Rock Radio. Press heralded "The Kingdom" as one of BUSH's best records in over 10 years saying, "Gavin Rossdale hauls out the riffs and makes a return to BUSH's glory days with 'The Kingdom'" (Kerrang!) and "'The Kingdom' is BUSH at their most confident, the sound of a band with plenty of ambition and passion left in their bones" (Louder).

The empty parking lots of each venue will be transformed into a pulsing theatre-in-the-round, complete with a massive stage, a state-of-the-art sound system that transmits the performance to each car's FM radio, elaborate lighting and four massive LED video screens that will provide 360 degrees of visual entertainment. BUSH's 2017 effort, "Black And White Rainbows", was crafted after Rossdale went through a divorce with pop star/reality TV judge Gwen Stefani in 2015.

BUSH's current lineup also includes guitarist Chris Traynor, bassist Corey Britz and drummer Nik Hughes.

The group, which broke up in 2002 but reunited in 2010, has released four albums since reforming.

"You Don't Wanna Know", the new music video from STILLWELL, the band featuring KORN bassist Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu, vocalist/guitarist Anthony "Q-Unique" Quiles and P.O.D. drummer Noah "Wuv" Bernardo, can be seen below. The song is taken from STILLWELL's third album, "Supernatural Miracle", which was released in September.

"Supernatural Miracle" finds STILLWELL reconciling its eclectic and storied musical backgrounds, and highlighting the similarities between each member's celebrated careers.

"With this new album, STILLWELL sounds like one band instead of past albums where it feels like three or four different bands," Bernardo explains. "With Q on guitar, it enabled us to be more cohesive with sound and direction."

"We intentionally made sure to not sound like the other bands we're a part of, out of respect, integrity and just wanting to push ourselves creatively," says Arvizu. "If people want to hear KORN, P.O.D. or the 10 bands Q works with, they can just listen to those, STILLWELL is its own thing. We put together what I think is our best work yet."

Drawing on STILLWELL's past albums — "Raise It Up" (2015) and "Dirtbag" (2011) — "Supernatural Miracle" serves as the culmination of years' worth of finding their voice. With this release, these musical legends are sure to give you a fresh new look at who they are apart from their histories, but together as a collective.

"I feel like this album was a major crossroad for all of us," says Q-Unique. "Wuv and Fieldy gave me the space to step up with the guitar, and then to have the opportunity to write these songs together was extremely surreal for me. It's one of the reasons why we called the album 'Supernatural Miracle'. To make a long story short, everything fell into place, from writing, recording, schedules, videos and artwork. This album has been a smooth journey."

Cathedral vocalist Lee Dorrian and guitarist Gaz Jennings have recently been trolling through their archives and are in the process of getting some old 8mm, Video 8, VHS and Mini DV clips transferred.
