JAMES HETFIELD Says METALLICA's Collaboration With FORTNITE 'Makes Sense': 'It Is A Really Cool Idea'

This weekend only, jump in to Fortnite to experience METALLICA's music like never before in "Metallica: Fuel. Fire. Fury." This immersive music experience journeys through five classic METALLICA tracks plus — because this is a METALLICA concert — the customary live intro of Ennio Morricone's "The Ecstasy Of Gold".

Watch the "Metallica: Fuel. Fire. Fury." concert teaser below.

"Metallica: Fuel. Fire. Fury." will have six different showtimes across two days. Mark your calendars, because these times will be your only chance to experience the concert live in Fortnite:

Saturday, June 22, 2024:

2 p.m. ET
5 p.m. ET
11 p.m. ET

Sunday, June 23, 2024:

10 a.m. ET
2 p.m. ET
5 p.m. ET

Want to hear more about METALLICA's journey across Fortnite? Listen to this week's "The Metallica Report" podcast where METALLICA frontman James Hetfield shares insight into how the band feels about taking over Fortnite.

During the episode, James shared about METALLICA's collaboration with Fortnite (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "What I kind of equate it to is we have a huge family out there. The METALLICA family is international and obviously every corner of the earth, there's a METALLICA family member. And Fortnite is kind of the same. They've reached many people all over the planet, so getting the two together makes sense. And they've got a lot to gain from our family and vice versa. So it is a really cool idea. And like it was explained to me, it's like it's a whole another continent. And we've played all seven, [so we] might as well play the eighth one. So let's get in on that and, yeah, explore and be adventurous and see what comes out of this. Why would we not?"

Addressing the similarities between the METALLICA and Fortnite communities, Hetfield said: "You're able to be welcomed in no matter who you are or what you are or how you wanna dress or however you wanna accessorize or whatever."

Asked if he thinks he could play the Fortnite game to his own song, Hetfield said: "I haven't tried it. I mean, I've tried 'Guitar Hero', and, um, it's not much to do with guitar playing, really. It's a game. You're jumping around on stuff and you're hitting things at a certain time. It's more about timing. It's more about being a drummer than it is a guitar player, really, in a way. It's about the timing. But, yeah, it is fun. But, yeah, here you're doing more than one note at a time. But [I'd] probably not [be] great. I'd be competitive and try to get better. Yes, of course… Especially if you're living in this world and you're doing it every day, you're gonna get good at it — as simple as that. And gosh, there's so much that I don't know about it that it's kind of interesting to be able to learn about it. And, yeah, it's like it's its own continent, it's its own language, it's probably got its own set of, I don't even wanna call them rules, but etiquette and shit like that, that is probably very different from the outside world, that I don't even know about. And so people are kind of creating their own whole own universe, which is pretty unbelievable and fantastic."

Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo of METALLICA are the icons of Fortnite Festival Season 4, where fans can shred along with METALLICA on classics, including "Enter Sandman", "Ride The Lightning" and "Master Of Puppets".

METALLICA's not just visiting Fortnite to perform — they're here to battle. This new season of Fortnite Festival introduces the Battle Stage, a new competitive way to play the rhythm music game, and will be available even after the METALLICA collaboration concludes.

Fortnite Festival's Battle Stage will see 16 players in a match, all will play from the same four-song setlist, and one will emerge victorious.

Season 4 ends August 16, 2024 at 12 a.m. ET. For more info on Season 4, the "player-vs-player" (PvP) Battle Stage, check out the Fortnite Festival blog.

METALLICA-themed gameplay is also coming to additional Fortnite games: Battle Royale, LEGO Fortnite and Rocket Racing.

How to jump into Fortnite:

* Download Fortnite for free on PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, Android, PC.
* Fortnite is also available on cloud-based streaming services.
* Once in the Fortnite Lobby, select the game you'd like to play. For starters:
- "Fortnite Battle Royale" for the classic, action-packed shooter

- "Fortnite Festival - Battle Stage" for competitive, player-vs-player music gameplay
- "LEGO Fortnite" for a survival crafting LEGO adventure
- "Rocket Racing" to drift, fly and boost in a supersonic arcade racer

METALLICA is also introducing the official Fortnite x Metallica merch collaboration. Look the part while you immerse yourself in METALLICA's takeover of Fortnite. MIKE PORTNOY Says ELOY CASAGRANDE Is Definitely 'The Second-Best Drummer For SLIPKNOT'

In a new interview with Brazil's Marcelo Vieira and Mateus Ribeiro, DREAM THEATER drummer Mike Portnoy was asked if he thinks Eloy Casagrande is "the perfect drummer for SLIPKNOT". Portnoy responded (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "I do. Eloy really… Well, actually, no. The perfect drummer for SLIPKNOT would have been [my son] Max Portnoy. [Laughs] But the second-best drummer for SLIPKNOT, behind Max, is definitely Eloy. I mean, he's a perfect fit, a perfect pick. He has so much incredible technique, but beyond technique, he plays with a lot of spirit and balls and personality. And sometimes for me, that's way more important than technique. But in his case, he has both. He has it all. And I couldn't be happier for him. And I'm also happy for Greyson [Nekrutman] who took his place in SEPULTURA, 'cause he's another favorite modern drummer of mine. So, the kind of triangle between SEPULTURA, SLIPKNOT and SUICIDAL TENDENCIES, with [former SLIPKNOT drummer] Jay Weinberg going to SUICIDAL, it's the perfect metal triangle. I think all three of those drummers are tremendous, and they've all Gotten great gigs."

25-year-old Max Portnoy has played drums for such bands as TALLAH and CODE ORANGE.

After parting ways with Jay Weinberg last November, SLIPKNOT teased fans with a hint about a new drummer more than four months ago, posting a photo of a single broken drumstick online with the caption "Rehearsal."

The band explained in a statement that the split with Weinberg was a creative decision. Jay followed up with a statement of his own, saying that he was "heartbroken and blindsided" by his dismissal.

Weinberg has since joined SUICIDAL TENDENCIES and INFECTIOUS GROOVES.

Casagrande abruptly quit SEPULTURA four and a half months ago, shortly before he was supposed to begin rehearsals for the band's recently launched 40th-anniversary farewell tour.

"February 6th, a few days prior to the first rehearsal, drummer Eloy Casagrande informed the band that he was leaving SEPULTURA to pursue a career in another project," the band said in a statement.

Casagrande joined SEPULTURA nearly 13 years ago as the replacement for Jean Dolabella.

SLIPKNOT's latest album "The End, So Far", arrived in August 2022. It marked the band's the last full-length LP before the departure of both keyboardist Craig Jones, who left the group in June 2023, and Weinberg.

SLIPKNOT recently announced the North American portion of the "Here Comes The Pain" tour. The band is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its seminal debut album, "Slipknot", which catapulted the band back in 1999.

In addition to the already announced dates across the globe, the "Here Comes The Pain" tour, produced by Live Nation, includes arena plays nationwide this summer. Highlights include New York City's Madison Square Garden, Los Angeles's Intuit Dome, Austin's Moody Center and more with direct support from Kentucky's young and vibrant hardcore/metal forerunners KNOCKED LOOSE. ORBIT CULTURE and VENDED are confirmed as support on select dates.

TRACII GUNS: 'I Would Be Really Embarrassed To Even Think Of' Playing Along To Pre-Recorded Tracks During Live Shows

L.A. GUNS guitarist Tracii Guns has weighed in on bands who rely heavily on pre-recorded tracks during their live performances.

In recent years, more and more artists have been given a pass for relying on pre-recorded tracks, drum triggers and other assorted technology that makes concerts more synthetic but also more consistent. For better or worse, pre-recorded tracks are becoming increasingly common for touring artists of all levels and genres and they're not just used in pop music — many rock artists utilize playback tracks to varying degrees.

Speaking to The Rock Experience With Mike Brunn, Tracii was asked for his opinion on rock bands who use pre-recorded tracks. He responded (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "I would be really embarrassed to even think of doing that. It's embarrassing to me. Could you imagine Chuck Berry playing to [pre-recorded guitar] tracks? Or Keith Richards, or anything like that?

"If I was playing in a band playing original music, a rock and roll band, and I was there, and all of a sudden that band I was in was all over the Internet getting fucking mud thrown at 'em [for playing along to tracks], I couldn't do it," he continued. "[I would say], 'Hey, I love you, guys. Thanks for the dough, man.' But my legacy, I don't want my legacy to be, like, 'Yeah, I was the guy playing live in the band that wasn't. That ain't cool.

"There's been so many claims that like KISS uses tracks," Tracii added. "Man, I was there [watching them play on the 'Kiss Kruise'], I was on stage, I was with their techs, man. Those guys lit that place up with no [pre-recorded enhancements]. I don't know what the fuck people are talking about.

"I think some bands need it because that's part of their production on their album," Guns explained. "They'll do, like, a three-part vocal harmony [on the album], but there's only two guys in the band, and [there'll be] a full orchestra [on the record] and shit like that. So those bands are more geared towards that thing, like they go in going, 'Okay, this has to be set up like this because we're doing it this way. And this is how we create this huge sound.' And if that's the intent going in, well, then there's nothing to be ashamed of because then you're known as 'we're an electronic band.' Like NINE INCH NAILS, for example, or a lot of those first electronic, really heavy bands. What's an even better one? MINISTRY. They've got a lot of electronic music going on, a lot of stuff going on. So when that's the intention, that's cool. But Johnny Martin [L.A. GUNS bassist], he ain't gonna pre-record his bass tracks. We're not gonna have a click track with L.A. GUNS or anything like that. But everybody's different. It's kind of laughable, I guess. But people do what they feel they've gotta do."

KISS frontman Paul Stanley, who has been struggling to hit the high notes in many of the band's classic songs for a number of years, has been accused of singing to a backing tape on KISS's recently completed "End Of The Road" tour.

Back in 2015, KISS bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons slammed bands who used backing tapes for not being honest enough to include that fact on their concert tickets.

"I have a problem when you charge $100 to see a live show and the artist uses backing tracks," Simmons said. "It's like the ingredients in food. If the first ingredient on the label is sugar, that's at least honest. It should be on every ticket — you're paying $100, 30 to 50 percent of the show is [on] backing tracks and they'll sing sometimes, sometimes they'll lip sync. At least be honest. It's not about backing tracks, it's about dishonesty.

"There's nobody with a synthesizer on our stage, there's no samples on the drums, there's nothing," Gene continued. "There's very few bands who do that now — AC/DC, METALLICA, us. I can't even say that about U2 or THE [ROLLING] STONES. There's very few bands who don't use [backing] tracks."

In March 2023, KISS's longtime manager Doc McGhee defended Stanley's vocal performance on "End Of The Road", explaining that the "Star Child" "fully sings to every song" at every concert. He explained: It's enhanced. It's just part of the process to make sure that everybody hears the songs the way they should be sang to begin with. Nobody wants to hear people do stuff that's not real, that's not what they came to hear."

When McGhee was asked to clarify if he was "actually saying there are backing tracks that [Paul is] singing to," Doc said: "He'll sing to tracks. It's all part of a process. Because everybody wants to hear everybody sing. But he fully sings to every song."

In March 2020, SHINEDOWN guitarist Zach Myers said that "90 percent" of rock artists use at least some pre-recorded tracks during their live performances. He told Rock Feed: "It bothers me that it bothers people. I'm, like, 'Why does this bother you?' It's the way it is. People have been doing this since the '80s. And we want the sound to be the best it can be. Could we go up there, just the four of us, and put on the best rock show ever? Of course. But that's not how we wanna do it."

Former SKID ROW singer Sebastian Bach has previously said that he is "one of the last people" who are still not using pre-recorded tracks at their live shows. "I don't know how much longer I can say to you that I don't use tapes onstage, because I don't, and I never have," he told Consequence Of Sound. "And I still don't. When I have opening bands, and they're using tapes, and then I come out and I don't use tapes… sometimes, it makes me feel stupid, because I'm like, 'What am I doing, when all these kids half my age can come onstage and do all of my moves, but they don't have to warm up for an hour before the show, or weeks, before the first show?' Sometimes, I'm like, 'Why do I even bother, if the public is so used to this other way?' It's becoming very rare to come see a good band that's actually a real band — that's not miming or doing silly moves while a tape is running. It just becomes more rare as the years go on."

In 2019, IRON MAIDEN guitarist Adrian Smith said that he doesn't "agree" with certain rock artists relying on pre-recorded tracks during their live performances. "I tell you what, I see it with a lot of younger bands, and I don't think it's a good thing at all," he told the New York Post. "I mean, the music is getting too technical now. You have computerized recording systems, which we use, but I think we use them more for convenience than because we need to. We've toured with a couple bands that use tapes — it's not real. You're supposed to play live; it should be live. I don't agree with using tapes … I think it's a real shame."

One musician who has been open about his band's use of taped vocals during live performances is MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx, who said: "We've used technology since '87." He added the group employed "sequencers, sub tones, background vox tracks, plus background singers and us. [MÖTLEY CRÜE also taped] stuff we can't tour with, like cello parts in ballads, etc.... We love it and don't hide it. It's a great tool to fill out the sound."

In a 2014 interview, MÖTLEY CRÜE guitarist Mick Mars admitted that he wasn't comfortable with the fact that his band used pre-recorded backing vocals in its live shows, claiming that he preferred to watch groups whose performances are delivered entirely live. "I don't like it," he said. "I think a band like ours… I have to say '60s bands were my favorite — '60s and '70s bands — because they were real, like, three-piece bands or four-piece bands, and they just got up there and kicked it up. Made a mistake? So what? Sounded a little bit empty here or there? So what? It's the bigness and the rawness and the people that developed and wrote the songs and made them and presented them. To me, that's what I really like. I mean, I could put on a MÖTLEY CD and play with it all day long. I don't wanna do that."

'Electric Lady Studios: A JIMI HENDRIX Vision' Documentary To Be Released In August

Abramorama announced today that they have acquired global theatrical distribution rights to the full-length documentary "Electric Lady Studios: A Jimi Hendrix Vision" from Experience Hendrix L.L.C.Abramorama previously distributed two other Jimi Hendrix documentaries, "Electric Church" and the 2022 Grammy-nominated "Music, Money, Madness: Jimi Hendrix Live In Maui". An August release is planned, starting in New York City at the Quad on August 9, 2024, followed by a global roll out.

Evan Saxon, Abramorama's president and head of international distribution, states: "Abramorama is honored to once again collaborate with Experience Hendrix L.L.C., this time to share an insightful and never before seen documentary about one of the most famous recording studios in the world. Listen to an hour's worth of music on your favorite playlist, DSP or radio station and odds are at least one of the songs was recorded at Jimi Hendrix's Electric Lady Studios."

"Electric Lady Studios: A Jimi Hendrix Vision" chronicles the creation of the studio, rising from the rubble of a bankrupt Manhattan nightclub to becoming a state-of-the-art recording facility inspired by Hendrix's desire for a permanent studio. Electric Lady Studios was the first-ever artistowned commercial recording studio. Hendrix had first envisioned creating an experiential nightclub. He was inspired by the short-lived Greenwich Village nightspot Cerebrum whose patrons donned flowing robes and were inundated by flashing lights, spectral images and swirling sound. Hendrix so enjoyed the Cerebrum experience that he asked its architect John Storyk to work with him and his manager Michael Jeffery. Hendrix and Jeffery wanted to transform what had once been the Generation Club into "an electric studio of participation." Shortly after acquiring the Generation Club lease however, Hendrix was steered from building a nightclub to creating a commercial recording studio.

The documentary includes never-before-seen footage and photos as well as track breakdowns of Hendrix classics such as "Freedom", "Angel" and "Dolly Dagger" by recording engineer Eddie Kramer who was awarded an Emmy for his work on the film "Jimi Hendrix: Hear My Train A Comin'".

An award-winning producer/engineer and longtime Jimi Hendrix collaborator Eddie Kramer stated: "Jimi loved jamming at The Generation night club in the Village and when it went bankrupt, he and [manager] Mike Jeffery purchased it with a view to making it a place for him and his friends to relax and possibly record their jams on an eight-track tape machine in the corner. Soon thereafter I was asked to evaluate the space. I remember walking down the stairs to a demolition site as they had started to tear stuff down to see how much bigger they could make it. I knew at once that a club would be disastrous. I remember saying something like, 'You guys must be out your #$%^&ing minds! Do you have any idea of what Jimi spends in studio time in a year? Let's build the best studio in the world for him so when he walks in, he can relax and record whenever he wants. The club idea was scratched, and Electric Lady Studios was born. By June of the next year (1970) Studio A was completed and after a few test sessions Jimi came in to record in HIS studio. Man was he proud of it. He loved the way it sounded and its vibe. We recorded many tracks for a new album over the next four months which became 'Cry Of Love'. The legacy of what Jimi wanted endures to this day: a place where one could create without being interrupted. Every artist who comes to Electric Lady Studios feels the spirit of Jimi Hendrix, a spirit that helps them create their own music!"

Directed by John McDermott and produced by Janie Hendrix, George Scott and McDermott, the film features exclusive interviews with Steve Winwood (who joined Hendrix on the first night of recording at the new studio),EXPERIENCE bassist Billy Cox and original Electric Lady staff members who helped Hendrix realize his dream. The documentary includes never-before-seen footage and photos as well as track breakdowns of Hendrix classics such as "Freedom", "Angel" and "Dolly Dagger" by recording engineer Eddie Kramer.

The documentary explains in depth that while Jimi Hendrix's death robbed the public of so much potential music, the continued success of his recording studio provides a lasting legacy beyond his own music. John Lennon, THE CLASH, AC/DC, CHIC, David Bowie, Stevie Wonder, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Beyonce and hundreds more made records at Electric Lady Studios, which speaks to one of Jimi's lasting achievements in an industry that has radically changed over the course of the last half century.

Janie Hendrix reflects: "Jimi's creative mind was always filled with next level ideas. He was never content with the ordinary but was driven by the burning desire to create something incredible that hadn't been done before. That was the catalyst for Electric Lady Studios. The film 'Electric Lady Studios: A Jimi Hendrix Vision' brings to light just how forward-thinking and inventive Jimi was in every aspect of his music, including production and recording. It was at Electric Lady Studios where he pushed beyond the musical limits of what was known, and he then opened the door to other musicians, allowing them the space to realize their own artistic hopes and dreams. My brother conceived something so amazing and so big that it has lived on for decades since its inception, serving as a passageway for hundreds of artists to bring their creativity to a waiting world audience. This is what Jimi envisioned when he founded the New York brainchild, and his prophecy is fulfilled through the countless, brilliant musicians who have tapped into the energy of the studio Jimi created. Legendary artists such as Stevie Wonder, John Lennon, David Bowie, U2, Prince, Jon Batiste, Lana Del Rey, Beyoncé, Jay-Z, D'Angelo and so many others have produced their finest work in the inspired recording house. This film tells the story of how the dream of a visionary, who dared to think outside the musical box, can have a limitless reach, generation after generation. It tells Jimi's story with his Electric Lady."

FROZEN CROWN Share SABATON Cruise 2023 Recap Video

The Sabaton Cruise 2023 took place between December 13-15, 2023. Bands performing on the cruise included Visions of Atlantis, Phil Campbell And The Bastard Sons, Twilight Force, Curse Of Cain, Frozen Crown, The Gems, The Bombshell Belles, and of course, Sabaton.

Italian power metallers Frozen Crown have shared a video recap of the cruise. Check it out below.

Frozen Crown recently shared the following message with their fans:

"New album complete!

Dear friends, many of you asked us what we were doing behind the scenes during the last months. Now, after some hints here and there, we can say we're happy and proud beyond words to finally be able to listen to this new material. It's the best stuff we ever recorded and yes, we know, all bands say this about their latest album, but this time it couldn't be truer. Not only cause this is the first material recorded as a 6-piece band, but also cause this is the very first time every single Frozen Crown member actively contributed to the final result.

Once again we worked with the best, who has been the hidden additional band member for all these years: Andrea 'Fusix' Fusini, which crafted the sound of all our albums since the beloved debut The Fallen King. You may have listened to some of his latest work on Napalm Records if you happened to check the latest Delain album!"

Frozen Crown inked a worldwide contract with Napalm Records in June 2023. The five-piece was founded in 2018, and have since become one of the most influential Italian metal bands in the current scene.

So far, Frozen Crown have released four albums - The Fallen King (2018), Crowned In Frost (2019), Winterbane (2021) and this year’s Call Of The North - which have brought the band huge media exposure, millions of streams and video views, and big European tours with the likes of Dragonforce and Nanowar Of Steel, as well as two headlining tours in Japan.

Their current album, Call Of The North, is Frozen Crown’s most mature work so far, showcasing the best of the band’s unique power metal style infused with classic heavy metal, melodic death metal and speed metal influences, all topped with bombastic production highlighting opulent orchestrations and harmonies.

Frozen Crown on the signing: "We're happy and honored to join the Napalm Records family and we're ready for our next big step together. Since we founded this band in 2018 we worked hard incessantly, day after day, not only trying to put our best in our studio albums and live, but also managing the band all by ourselves, conquering every single little accomplishment with our DIY attitude, always keeping loyal to our (extremely) small entourage. Thanks to the support of our lovely fans, Frozen Crown eventually grew bigger, and got to a point where we were not able to handle it all by ourselves anymore. At the same time, we knew we needed more firepower to push the band further and bring it to the next level. And speaking of firepower, Napalm Records was just the best record label to start this new chapter with... We're excited beyond words to be part of the best metal label in the world, and we can't wait to start working together on our new album, joining forces with this huge team of professionals."

Sebastian Muench, Senior A&R Napalm Records, adds: “Frozen Crown are simply one of the most creative power metal bands to emerge in the last five years. Their previous releases, Winterbane and Call Of The North, are brilliant. We look forward to working with Frozen Crown to reach the next level in their career.”

Frozen Crown are:

Giada “Jade” Etro - Vocals
Federico Mondelli - Vocals, Guitar
Fabiola Bellomo - Guitar
Francesco Zof - Bass
Niso Tomasini - Drums

U.S. doom metal pioneers PENTAGRAM have revealed a brand new lineup for their upcoming new album and tours. Around legendary frontman and band founder Bobby Liebling comes the melodic power of guitarist Tony Reed — known for fronting Seattle rock stalwarts MOS GENERATOR as well as producing and engineering some of the modern heavy scene's cornerstone releases from ELECTRIC WIZARD to BLUES PILLS — and the sheer grooves of bassist John "Scooter" Haslip, also of MOS GENERATOR and formerly of SALTINE. The new lineup is rounded out by scene heavyweight and internationally renowned drummer Henry Vasquez of SAINT VITUS, SPIRIT CARAVAN, THE SKULL/LEGION OF DOOM and SOURVEIN.

PENTAGRAM recently signed to Heavy Psych Sounds for the reissue of the "Review Your Choices" and "Sub-Basement" albums as well as the long-awaited follow-up to the 2015 full-length "Curious Volume".

PENTAGRAM is currently entering the studio, poised to usher in a bold era with a new album and tours that will see the band traveling to distant ends of the globe.

The band's return to the States will be elevated by a headline performance at Levitation 2024 on November 3 in Austin, Texas. The night's stage will be honored by a live resurrection of hometown legends THE SWORD.

PENTAGRAM is set to reissue "Review Your Choices" and "Sub-Basement" (originally released in 1999 and 2001 via Black Widow Records) in a fully remastered version engineered by Tony Reed, with preorders starting on July 2 via www.heavypsychsounds.com.

PENTAGRAM is considered one of the very pioneers of the doom metal genre alongside BLACK SABBATH and WITCHFINDER GENERAL. Formed in 1971 in Virginia by Liebling (vocals) and Geof O'Keefe (drums) with Vincent McAllister on guitar and Greg Mayne on bass, the band was prolific in the underground scene of the 1970s, producing many demos and rehearsal tapes, but did not release their self-titled full-length album until reforming in the early 1980s with a new lineup. With Liebling remaining the only original band member throughout the band's 50-year career span, PENTAGRAM has welcomed many well-respected musicians from the heavy and doom metal scene, with members spending time in other acts such as RAVEN, THE OBSESSED, PLACE OF SKULLS, INTERNAL VOID and SPIRIT CARAVAN.

Liebling was the focus of "Last Days Here", the critically acclaimed 2011 documentary that detailed his lifelong struggle with drug addiction and followed him as he revived PENTAGRAM in his 50s while emerging from his parents' basement to start afresh with a wife less than half his age and their newborn son.

Back in 2017, PENTAGRAM guitarist Victor Griffin, bassist Greg Turley and drummer "Minnesota Pete" Campbell completed a tour without Liebling after Bobby was arrested for one count of assault on a vulnerable adult. He was later sentenced to 18 months in the Montgomery County Detention Center, minus time served. Although it was not publicly disclosed, the victim was believed to be Liebling's mother, who was 87 years of age at the time of Bobby's arrest.

NIKKI SIXX: 'I Don't See A Reason Right Now' For MÖTLEY CRÜE 'To Go In The Studio' And Record More New Music

In a new interview with Riff X 's "Metal XS", MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx spoke about the band's plans for the coming months. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "We're just playing festivals, and that takes us into October. We don't have any plans next year yet. I know there's some conversations about stuff. I mean, we have a few singles [already recorded], so I don't see us [recording any new music right now]… We're not gonna be around. I live in Wyoming and Vince [Neil, CRÜE singer] lives in Tennessee, two guys in California, so I don't… I don't actually see a reason right now to go in the studio, 'cause we've got two more singles [recorded and ready] to [release]. And I always wanna be sure that if we go in the studio, we have a reason or we have something we're really inspired by, but it's a lot of scheduling, and we tour and we have families. For me specifically, I have a five-year-old daughter, and I really wanna be with her as much as possible. So when the time came to go do these demos of these three songs and then go in the studio with [producer] Bob Rock, it was like a perfect time. And that time will happen again, but there's no rush."

Regarding the possibility of returning to Europe next year, Nikki said: "We're in '24, and we don't really know what '25 looks like, but I'm sure we'll come up with something fun to do and make sure that we're there for the fans. I mean, we just did Europe, so I don't see going back there for a second. But we love it over there. We had such a great time in Europe this last time. We got to spend two months over there, which is a long time. But what was nice about that is once we got over there, we got unjetlagged and the schedule wasn't so tight. And I had my family with me. I was able to be with the band and play concerts, but also experienced Europe, all over Europe. So that was a really good time.

"I'm enjoying this pace of working," Nikki added. "I really enjoy it. I don't feel burnt out. In the past, artists, we get burnt out, 'cause, you, you tour so much. And I'm really enjoying where we're at. We make music when we feel it. We do shows when we feel it."

MÖTLEY CRÜE's latest single, "Dogs Of War", was made available on April 26 via the band's new deal with Nashville's Big Machine Records

The "Dogs Of War" music video is an animated, all-CGI affair directed by Nick DenBoer.

In addition to "Dogs Of War", MÖTLEY CRÜE recorded a new song called "Canceled" and a cover of BEASTIE BOYS' "(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party!)", the latter two of which have not yet been released.

MÖTLEY CRÜE's deal with Big Machine sees the band and the label working together again after making the 2014 project "Nashville Outlaws: A Tribute To Mötley Crüe", which featured CRÜE tracks covered by country stars RASCAL FLATTS, FLORIDA GEORGIA LINE, Darius Rucker and more. Big Machine also partnered with MÖTLEY CRÜE's new guitarist John 5 for the release of his 2021 album "Sinner".

MÖTLEY CRÜE's last studio album was 2008's "Saints Of Los Angeles", which was followed by a 2009 "Greatest Hits" compilation.

In 2018, MÖTLEY CRÜE recorded four new songs for "The Dirt" movie, including the single "The Dirt (Est. 1981) (Feat. Machine Gun Kelly)", "Ride With The Devil", "Crash And Burn" and the band's own spin on Madonna's "Like A Virgin".

John 5 joined MÖTLEY CRÜE in the fall of 2022 as the replacement for the band's co-founding guitarist Mick Mars. Mick announced his retirement from touring with MÖTLEY CRÜE in October 2022 as a result of worsening health issues.

CARSEX Share New Track / Video "Crooked Canvas"

Long Beach, California underground rock band CarSex has a supercharged sound that is what the name implies: sleazy, primitive, uncomfortable and just as good as your friends told you it’d be.

They have just released their new single / video “Crooked Canvas”, produced by Steve Evetts (Sepultura, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Butcher Babies). The track is a diatribe about their intense disdain for blind consumerism and uninformed fealty to political parties. It starts out with a spoken word warning that is underlined by a fierce guitar riff that builds alongside a staccato drum beat and then explodes into a supersonic blast that never lets up.

CarSex singer Nigel Burk says, “'Crooked Canvas' is about the metaphorical wool being pulled over people’s eyes and the blind, general consumption of what’s being put forth. Whether it’s politics, religion, what shoes to buy, which pill will make your dick bigger. It’s about consumerism at its finest and my distaste for it.”

Bassist Jeremy Schott adds, “The music video was shot by our pals Brad Walther and Jason Lazo at Big Walrus Productions in Long Beach. We worked with them on our last video for 'Your Generation'. We shot the video on a church set, keeping with the theme of the song being about the public being told how to think and what to consume – and blindly doing so. Steven Burhoe of Plague Productions edited the video.”

CarSex has previously released two EPs: 2019’s CarSex and 2020’s 2020 EP, which featured the singles “Your Generation” and “Lovesick”.   A new EP is being finalized and will be released later this summer.

For further details, visit CarSex on Facebook.

TO THE GRAVE Introduce New Album Everyone's A Murderer; Drop Video For "Dead Wrong"

Australian deathcore powerhouse and ardent animal rights activists, To The Grave have announced details of their new album. Titled Everyone's A Murderer, the band's third full length album is scheduled for release on August 30th via Unique Leader Records. Pre-save here.

Unleashed alongside the album news is their bludgeoning first single, "Dead Wrong", accompanied by an intense official music video, which can be seen below.

Speaking on the band’s first offering from this next chapter, To The Grave’s incendiary vocalist, Dane Evans shares, "Two solos from the dogs and hard riffs, we knew this had to be a single as soon as we made it. Getting Mike on it was a must after we fell in love with Empty Cages listening to their record on tour in The States and he killed it. The chorus for this one really pulled through and stitched it all together, for a while we didn't know what was going to go there and tried a few things but this was the first attempt at this style on the album and that take made the record."

Everyone's A Murderer promises to be To The Grave's heaviest and most evolved offering yet, both sonically and thematically. The album attacks societal and environmental themes with the relentless intensity the band are known for, giving voice to the voiceless via their unique, signature blend of brutally impactful deathcore.

Providing further insight on the new album, Evans shares: "For this record my aim was to speak through the faceless activists that fight for animals, for those living in vystopia feeling alone and helpless in a world that will fight tooth and nail to defend the animal holocaust. Due to it being illegal to rescue farmed animals from abuse these activists must stay silent about it to avoid having their own freedom taken.

It wasn't an easy task, it's never going to do justice to the horrors animals go through every day by the millions in cold, dark sheds around the world or to those that have witnessed it and are doing everything they can to put an end to it. There's no words, no lyrics and no music that can describe the violence or bring back the lives stolen by human hands so this is for them.

Our idea for this album evolved so much before it started but we knew we wanted something that sounded classic, like it was from a different decade entirely. It had to have all the elements that brought us all towards deathcore all those years ago combined with all the modern touches you'd find in the recent TTG material, all whilst trying to do something new and step outside our comfort zone in the process.

It was cool to work with the new lineup on the gritty details like production, tones and getting the energy of the drums down. Once the album was in a listenable state these guys really gave it all personality and brought everything to the table to shape this new sound.

We're very critical of ourselves as artists and have made music in the past that for whatever reason we haven't loved. With that in mind I think the overall goal with this record was to make something that regardless of what anyone else thought, we were proud of and I'm happy that we all had that shared vision in mind.

We probably had the most fun making this record that we've ever had and it felt liberating to be able to make something that we liked. It felt like starting the band from new again and only having the pressure of wanting to write cool shit.

The singles are tough as f*ck and I think do a good job of representing the blunt force approach on the album leaving a tonne of surprises in the sharps bin for when people pick it up on release day. That should make sense when it drops."

Tracklisting:

"Set Yourself On Fire (In Public)"
"DxE Or Die"
"A Body For A Body" ft. Connor Dickson & Siantelle Johns
"Burn Your Local Butcher"
"Vegan Day Of Violence"
"Gaschamber P.T."
"Made In Aus"
"Eight Four One Six" ft. Sophie Wilcher
"Terrormilitary"
"Dead Wrong" ft. Micheal Kearney

To The Grave also announced today that they will be playing two very special album release shows on Friday, August 30th at Stay Gold in Melbourne with support from No Life (NZ) & Identity Error and Saturday, August 31st at The Lansdowne with support from No Life (NZ) & Facecutter in Sydney.

Following their epic album release shows, To The Grave have a stacked touring schedule starting with a US tour in September and October supporting deathcore legends Oceano. After that, they will join Veil Of Maya, Signs Of The Swarm, and Varials for the Faces Of Death Tour across the UK and Europe in October and November. They will then return to Australia for a series of shows with Lorna Shore and Bodysnatcher in 2025. For further info and tickets, visit ToTheGraveAu.com.

DEFILED Announce New Album Horror Beyond Horror, "To See Behind The Wall" Single / Video Out Now

When it comes to Japanese death metal, there is no shrewder sensei than Defiled. Since they started their training in the world's most vulgar of art forms back in the early '90s, the band have toured everywhere from their native Tokyo to Milwaukee Metal Fest with the likes of Mayhem, Incantation, Morbid Angel and Cannibal Corpse.

Now, after 30 years of destroying the opposition at the highest level, these self-proclaimed samurai of death metal are back with their eighth album. Horror Beyond Horror is the kind of good ol' fashioned ass-kicking that only a true master can deliver.

Horror Beyond Horror comes out September 20th on Season of Mist. Pre-save / pre-order your copy now at this location.

Watch the video for "To See Behind The Wall":

After they first took to the stage in 1995, Defiled needed nearly a decade before finally erupting with wrath on their debut album. But ever since the band's lineup solidified around original member Yusuke Sumita, they haven't  stopped to look back and admire their war path. Horror Beyond Horror comes hot on the heels of the album they released just last year.

Anyone who took The Highest Level at face value will be pleasantly surprised to hear that Defiled have only added another grimy coat of blood to their blade. "To See Behind The Wall" is the final boss on Horror Beyond Horror, but the album's first single wastes no time charging into the fray behind a barrage of old-school death metal. Whether they're slicing, dicing or leaping into a furiously fast solo, the riffs take no prisoners.

"The path to your elimination", Shinichiro Hamada cries, digging in amidst a flurry of blast beats, before unleashing an ungodly war cry.

"What is behind the wall?", Defiled ask on their new single. "The truth that has been hidden? Our sanity as human beings? Are we, who are inside the wall, now in a world of deceit and madness?"

Horror Beyond Horror artwork, created by Wes Benscoter, and tracklisting:

"Smoke And Mirrors"
"Horror Beyond Horror"
"Syndicate"
"The Alchemy"
"Demagogue"
"The Terminal Phase"
"Trojan Horse"
"Spectrum Of Fear"
"The Crook And Flail"
"Replicator Dynamics"
"Equinox"
"The Chains"
"Psychopomp"
"To See Behind The Wall"

From the depths of Tokyo's darkest alleys, Defiled have emerged once again, claws sharpened, eyes bloodshot, ready to unleash a fresh dose of unadulterated savagery with their latest full-length studio album, Horror Beyond Horror. Marrying the grotesque with technical prowess, these samurais of sickness are poised to carve another notch into the archives of death metal's sordid history.

Since crawling from the primordial soup of the underground scene in the early '90s, Defiled have forged a path littered with broken souls. Their journey of destruction first sank its teeth into the international jugular with Erupted Wrath, mixed by the masterful Jim Morris in Tampa, Florida. This brutal assault opened gates to a global bloodletting, from leveling stages in South Korea to crushing skulls at the Milwaukee Metalfest, and not even the November to Dismember fest could foresee the carnage they'd bring.

Commandeering the technical tightrope between anarchy and precision, Defiled evolved, much like an aberrant spawn isolated on the Galapagos, grotesque yet ultimately superior. Their subsequent onslaughts — Ugliness Revealed, Divination, and the sheer violence of In Crisis — built a monument to atrocity that ascends to new heights with Horror Beyond Horror.

Taking no prisoners in their three-decades-long campaign of terror, Defiled have become the indestructible behemoth of Asia's death metal scene, powered by the relentless engine of their old school roots and the twisted wreckage of technical thrash and progressive rock innovation.

But enough with the history lesson, you came here for the carnage, didn't you? Horror Beyond Horror is a 14-track massacre, riddled with riffs sharp enough to slit your throat and a rhythmic onslaught that'll pulverize your pathetic bones. Each track, from the visceral "Smoke And Mirrors" to the haunting "To See Behind The Wall", is a calculated strike, precision-engineered to leave no survivors. Let's not forget the eponymous "Horror Beyond Horror", a track that cements Defiled's legacy as harbingers of the apocalypse.

With a sound as raw as exposed nerve endings and as unrefined as a mass grave, Defiled stands defiantly apart from the polished poseurs and shameless sellouts. They don’t peddle in cheap gimmickry or nostalgia; they deal in the currency of pure, unfiltered destruction. As they look out upon the charred landscape of the genre they’ve helped to define, Defiled is not content to rest on their laurels. Horror Beyond Horror sees them, once again, ascending to the blood-soaked throne of death metal sovereignty.

GINGER EVIL Unveils New Single And Video "Arrowhead"

Finnish female-fronted rock sensations Ginger Evil share their new single and accompanying video, “Arrowhead”, out today via Frontiers Music Srl.

Stream / download “Arrowhead” here.

“Arrowhead” is an English version of a classic Finnish song, whose original composer J. Karjalainen is one of Finland's best-known and most respected songwriters.

Ella Tepponen’s powerful voice interprets the song wonderfully, and she also plays the piano parts. Max Lilja, known from the original lineup of Apocalyptica, plays the cello.

Bassist Veli Palevaara says: “I bumped into J. Karjalainen on the street by chance. I praised his gig I had just been to a couple of days before. We talked about music for a while and I told him about the Frontiers deal. He suggested that we should cover one of his songs in English, he will provide the lyrics. Needlees to say, we immediately took up the honorable task. The lyrics can basically be placed anywhere in the world and there is a message we can stand behind. The video for the song was filmed in the magical Raasepori castle, which was built at the end of the 14th century.”

Ginger Evil began as Moonshine Inc. in 2005, in a rehearsal room in Helsinki, Finland. After a couple of years of rehearsal and composing, a fruitless search for a singer meant the songs were put on ice.

Meanwhile, guitarist Tomi Julkunen and bassist Veli Palevaara continued gigging in Finland with The Milestones, including arena shows with Deep Purple and Whitesnake. In the aftermath of their fifth album, those Moonshine Inc. songs from a decade back emerged from hibernation, so the search began again for a vocalist.

The powerful voice of Ella Tepponen was known to Tomi and Veli from many theatre and music projects, and drummer Toni Mustonen was already familiar to everyone. Jamming together found a shared musical passion, and a group creative process soon flourished. Ginger Evil was born.

“From Foo Fighters to Fleetwood Mac," is how the band hears their music, with singer Ella bringing a whole new kind of twist to their rock expression. Everything was coming together. Music producer and film director Richard Stanley, known for his work with The Who heard demos of Ginger Evil and was inspired to write lyrics.

In early 2022 Ginger Evil signed a deal with Deadfall Artist/Band management and a half year later with Frontiers Music Srl. (Def Leppard, Toto, Whitesnake, Journey). For recording the debut album The Way It Burns, Ella brought in Teemu Aalto (Insomnium) as a producer, who also handled the final mixes with final mastering by Grammy-nominated Svante Forsbäck of Chartmakers (Rammstein, Volbeat, Sunrise Avenue, Apocalyptica).

Lineup:

Ella Tepponen - vocals
Tomi Julkunen - guitars
Veli Palevaara - bass
Toni Mustonen - drums

Watch MERCYFUL FATE Bassist BECKY BALDWIN Perform METALLICA's "Seek And Destroy"; Video

Birmingham, England's Becky Baldwin, who was recently announced as Mercyful Fate's new bassist, replacing Joey Vera (Armored Saint) in the band lineup, has released a bass cover of Metallica's "Seek And Destroy".

Says Becky, "I took this short break from Mercyful Fate playthroughs to bring you a cover of one of my favourite bands - Metallica! Earlier this month I took a trip to Copenhagen, Denmark, to watch their no-repeat weekend (and meet up with some of Mercyful Fate out there). It was only my second time seeing them, the first time being 15 years ago! I filmed this cover just before setting off but didn't have the time to edit it. Now it's finally ready!

"This is one of my favourite Metallica songs to play. It's not too flashy, but every riff is as iconic as the last and there's some really fun fills to learn. I remember some of these riffs being in a Metallica bass book I got when I was around 13, and I was so pleased that they actually sounded cool when I played them! Since then I've worked on the more intricate riffs, the details and intensity of the performance. It should have a wah pedal to switch on for parts of the chorus, but I think the chord works nicely if you don't have one. When I dep for the tribute band Metallica Reloaded this is one of my favourites to perform!

"I'm not sure why my phone's camera kept losing focus this time - frustrating equipment! Solutions welcome!"

Baldwin - who toured North America with Mercyful Fate in late 2022 - previously shared bass playthrough videos for "Curse Of The Pharaohs" and "A Corpse Without Soul". Watch below:

PHIL MOGG's MOGGS MOTEL Releases Debut Single, 'Apple Pie'

MOGGS MOTEL, the new band featuring UFO singer Phil Mogg, has released its first single and video, "Apple Pie". The track is taken from the group's self-titled album, which is due on September 4 via Cleopatra Records in the U.S. and Steamhammer/SPV outside North America.

Mogg said: "'Apple Pie' is the first track off the MOGGS MOTEL extravaganza. It concerns the quest for a piece of the pie, namely 'Apple' because I would like a nice large creamy slice this time around. Also I would get to ride the pony while she's swishing her tail — how sweet is that! I just need that elusive pie. This track was conjured up towards the end of lockdown. This was our first get together as a team, and a very jolly affair it was too — so enjoy the ride and get a bite... not a nibble please."

UFO fans, watch out! Anyone who'd feared over the past two years that Mogg, one of the most influential rock vocalists worldwide, would disappear completely from the scene after the demise of his band, in addition to his health problems, has now thankfully been proved wrong.

After a brief hiatus to catch his creative breath, the 76-year-old British musician with the distinctive voice is ready to present his latest band and release, "Moggs Motel", which he composed together with Tony Newton (bass and keyboards) from the band VOODOO SIX, who had been touring partners with UFO previously, and long-standing associate Neil Carter (guitar, keyboards, vocals). The album was recorded at IRON MAIDEN bassist Steve Harris's studio in Essex, U.K. In the studio, the band was joined by Joe Lazarus (drums) and Tommy Gentry (guitar) to complete the lineup.

The album's twelve timeless songs show that Mogg has lost none of his artistic charisma, uniquely expressive voice and love of unbridled creativity.

Another single, including video, will be released as an appetizer ahead of the album's arrival at the physical and digital stores: "Sunny Side Of Heaven" on August 16.

MOGGS MOTEL lineup:

Phil Mogg - vocals
Tony Newton - bass, keyboards

In a recent interview with Ultimate Classic Rock to promote the 2024 remastered reissue of UFO's 1977 album "Lights Out", Mogg was asked if there was still "more to do" with the band. He responded: "No, no. I think it's come to a conclusion. We did that last U.K. tour in 2019, just before COVID. So that was kind of the end of it, and the time was right."

Mogg suffered a heart attack in August 2022. The musician was rushed to the hospital where he had two stents implanted into his coronary arteries. This is known medically as a coronary angioplasty and aims to re-open the blocked coronary artery by inserting one or more stents. This helps keep the narrowed artery open.

UFO's farewell tour was scheduled to kick off on October 15, 2022 at the De Casino in Sint-Niklaas, Belgium and run through a final show at the Fuzz Club in Athens, Greece on October 29, 2022.

In 2021, UFO announced that it would embark on its final tour featuring a series of exclusive concerts in summer 2022 to bid farewell to its fans in style. UFO was scheduled to play the very last concert of in Athens, where the band performed its first show featuring current guitarist Vinnie Moore in February 2004.

UFO guitarist/keyboard player Paul Raymond died in April 2019. He appeared on more than a dozen of UFO's albums, including "Lights Out" and the live classic "Strangers In The Night".

UFO's most recent lineup included original members Mogg and drummer Andy Parker, as well as Moore, who joined in 2003, and Rob De Luca (bass),a member since 2012.

UFO's latest release was the 2017 covers collection "The Salentino Cuts".

DAUGHTRY Releases New Single 'Nervous'

With their previous single, "Pieces", climbing the charts at Active Rock, DAUGHTRY returns with an angsty anthem for the anxious on their new track "Nervous", out now on all platforms via Big Machine Rock.

Written about his battle with anxiety after experiencing loss, frontman Chris Daughtry continues to pull back the curtain on his personal life. The vulnerable new song showcases a different sound for the usually high-octane band, detailing a widely universal struggle with self-doubt and fear over haunting, synth-laden instrumentals. Cinematic production underscores the raw emotion of a life turned upside down by grief on this intimate track.

Chris says: "It's a complicated feeling when you find yourself stuck in a cycle of anxiety and depression from the punches that life inevitably throws — you're feeling alone and lost, but you don't even know why you still feel that way, because everything seems insurmountable. This song represents the importance of opening up and being honest about those feelings."

The hard-hitting track continues to usher in a fine-tuned and razor-sharp new era for the Grammy-nominated group, as they continue the rollout for their debut Big Machine Rock EP this fall. "Nervous" will join previous singles "Pieces" and "Artificial" on the new record, the latter of which earned the band their first No. 1 at Active Rock and first No. 1 single in 15 years.

During an appearance on the June 18 episode of SiriusXM's "Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk", Chris spoke about the progress of the recording sessions for the follow-up to DAUGHTRY's latest album, 2021's "Dearly Beloved". He said: "We have the first half done, and I don't have the exact date, but we're looking at sometime in September to drop the first half of the record. So we're dropping it in two parts. The first part will come out sometime in September. And then we're still currently working on the second half right now. And the first half, I'm just — man, I am so happy with it. I'm so stoked, and I can't wait for everybody to hear all of it. I can't wait to play some of these songs live. And yeah, so it's coming along great. It's just that we've been really, really deliberate and taking our time with this to get it right."

Asked if DAUGHTRY is planning to release the new music as two separate EPs, Chris said: "Yeah, I think it's two EPs that kind of come together as one when it all comes out."

This past April, DAUGHTRY released the official music video for its previous single, "Pieces". The song was the second track to be made available from the band's upcoming EP, due later this year on Big Machine.

DAUGHTRY has been winning fans around the globe since Chris burst on the scene in 2006. "Pieces" is a deeply personal song for Chris as it was written shortly after the loss of his mother and daughter. The evocative lyrics "I'll never get over it. It's hard to move on, but I'm learning to live with the pieces of me" are delivered with passion and is sure to be another chart-topping hit for the band.

"At some point in our lives, we will all experience trauma of some kind," explained Chris. "Something that chips away at the essence of who we are. Sometimes it's an event so devastating that it shatters our reality and rips a hole through our soul. This is about finding the strength to pick up those broken pieces, face the darkness head on, and fight your way toward the light."

DAUGHTRY had previously reached No. 1 over the years on other Billboard airplay charts, including four on Adult Pop Airplay ("It's Not Over", "Home", "Feels Like Tonight" and "No Surprise"),one on Pop Airplay ("It's Not Over") and one on Adult Contemporary ("Home").

DAUGHTRY's debut album, the self-titled "Daughtry", was the top-selling album of 2007 and was the fastest-selling rock debut album in SoundScan history. It was also nominated for four Grammy Awards and won four American Music Awards and seven Billboard Music Awards, including "Album Of The Year". Subsequent albums "Leave This Town" (2009),"Break The Spell" (2011) and "Baptized" (2013) have all gone platinum, with "Cage To Rattle" (2018) certified gold.

"Dearly Beloved" marked a return to DAUGHTRY's rock roots and a return to the top of the rock charts with their singles "World On Fire", "Heavy Is The Crown" and "Changes Are Coming", each reaching the Top 10 on Billboard's Rock Airplay chart.

TOM MORELLO Releases New Solo Single 'Soldier In The Army Of Love' Featuring His Son ROMAN

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE guitarist Tom Morello has released his new solo single, "Soldier In The Army Of Love". The song, which was co-written with his "guitar wizard son" Roman Morello, was described by Tom as "a generational rock anthem from the Morellos." "Soldier In The Army Of Love" is the first single from Tom's first-ever full-length solo rock album, due later in the year.

At this month's Download festival in the United Kingdom, Morello spoke to Guitar Interactive Magazine about "Soldier In The Army Of Love". He said: "That's a shredding guitar solo on ['Soldier In The Army Of Love']. I wish I could say it was me. During lockdown, when everybody else was baking bread, [my son Roman] was putting in his eight hours a day. So I've been relegated to be the rhythm guitar player in the family now. But no, one day I was walking by his bedroom and he was playing these awesome Drop D heavy riffs. I'm, like, 'What is that?' And he's, like, 'I just came up with 'em.' He's, like, 'Dad, do you think these riffs go together?' I'm, like, 'Yeah, I think those riffs go together.' And so we did this song, 'Soldier In The Army Of Love', he wrote the riffs. I produced it and kind of played on it. But the guitar solo is him as well. And so with Father's Day around the corner, I'm very, very proud to be making probably the heaviest song I've released in some time, [and it's] with my 13-year-old."

Speaking about the overall feel of his upcoming album, Tom said: "I've made a bunch of solo records, but this is the one that really has a pure rock [flavor to it]. I made alternative collaborations and electronic collaborations and folk music records. But this is a Tom Morello solo rock record, and ['Soldier In The Army Of Love' is] a very fitting first single for it."

Regarding the musical direction of the upcoming LP, Tom said: "On the one hand, it's gonna lean very heavy into like the Morellian riffs of RAGE and AUDIOSLAVE ilk, but there's also a [Bruce Springsteen's 1978 album] 'Darkness On The Edge Of Town' component to it as well. There likely will be some collaborations, but it's not collaboration dependent."

As for when fans can expect to get the album, Morello said: "I have a summer tour that interrupted the recording process. So I really wanted to get this song out, 'Soldier In The Army Of Love'. We open the set with it every night. It's been just crushing. And so I wanted to have like a big summer rock jam to play. I think the second single's gonna be ready probably early fall and then finish the record then, hopefully before the end of the year."

Last year, Tom Morello shared footage to Instagram of Roman playing RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE's "Killing In The Name" with Tom's RAGE bandmates Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk while the band was on tour in 2022.

"Upon our Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction I'd like to say thank you to all the RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE fans who over the course of 30+ years have been the heart and soul of the music," Morello wrote in the clip's accompanying caption.

"One of my favorite memories is my son Roman (who became a fan on tour) rocking Killing In The Name with Tim & Brad at a soundcheck in 2022."

In March 2023, Tom told Rolling Stone magazine that Roman could already outplay him when it came to lead guitar, despite the fact that he was only 11 at the time.

"I've been very inspired by my 11-year-old son," Tom told the magazine. "I've been relegated to being the rhythm guitar player in my family now because my 11-year-old can shred circles around me. I've been inspired by him. He's been writing some riffs, and I've been writing some riffs. It's been fun."

Roman Morello previously recorded a solo on fellow child prodigy Nandi Bushell's 2021 single "The Children Will Rise Up". The pair worked with the elder Morello to write the original anthem on which a swell of children's voices promised that they would not be silenced when it came to shouting from the rooftops about environmental injustice.

Tom was the sole member of RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE who attended the band's Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony last November at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE's Rock Hall induction came after the band appeared on six ballots.

In October 2022, RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE canceled its North American tour, three months after singer Zack De La Rocha severed his left Achilles tendon, leaving a mere eight inches of the tendon intact.

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE's comeback tour, which was first announced in 2019 and then delayed several times due to the pandemic, marked the first time the reunited rap-metal quartet had hit the road together since 2011.

FOO FIGHTERS Joined By BLACK SABBATH's GEEZER BUTLER For 'Paranoid' Performance In Birmingham

Legendary BLACK SABBATH bassist Geezer Butler joined FOO FIGHTERS last night (Thursday, June 27) at Villa Park stadium in his original hometown of Birmingham, United Kingdom to perform the SABBATH classic "Paranoid".

In introducing Butler to the audience, FOO FIGHTERS frontman Dave Grohl said: "He's never seen a concert here. He's never played a concert here. So we thought, something special for us and hopefully it's special for him too, we'd invite him out to come play a song with us. Ladies and gentleman, Geezer Butler from BLACK SABBATH." A few seconds later, he repeated: "Let me just say it one more time: Geezer Butler from BLACK SABBATH! So, why not? Let's do a song with Geezer? What do you say Chris [Shiflett, FOO FIGHTERS guitarist]?"

Watch fan-filmed video of the performance below.

Back in 2005, Grohl told U.K.'s Total Guitar magazine about the Ozzy Osbourne-fronted outfit: "I love BLACK SABBATH. They made an amazing contribution to music today. Almost every band that made it big in the 1990s owes a debt to them."

FOO FIGHTERS will continue their European tour with a headlining appearance at Hellfest in Clisson, France on Sunday (June 30).

Formed in the mid-1990s by former NIRVANA members Grohl and Pat Smear, FOO FIGHTERS have released 11 albums, including their latest, "But Here We Are", which came out in June 2023. The effort was the band's first after drummer Taylor Hawkins's death, as well as the passing of Grohl's mother.

SUNBOMB Feat. MICHAEL SWEET And TRACII GUNS Release Sophomore Album + "Light Up The Skies" Visualizer

Sunbomb, the musical alliance between two steadfast warriors of the US hard rock/metal scene: Tracii Guns and Michael Sweet, have released their sophomore album, Light Up The Sky, via Frontiers Records Srl.

Developed as a tribute to the classic heavy metal of the 80s, Sunbomb melds influences of classic metal bands such as Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, Dio, and Judas Priest.

To celebrate the release, the band shares the track "Light Up the Skies" and a visualizer to go along with it.

About the track, Michael Sweet had this to share: "'Light Up The Skies' is a raw track that takes you back to a time when music was driven by guitars, with powerful grooves that woke you up immediately. Me and Tracii could not be happier with the results. In a time where computers rule, we’re trying to keep the human side of hard rock alive."

Tracii played all guitars and bass on Light Up The Sky with drums handled by Tracii's old L.A. Guns bandmate, Adam Hamilton. Light Up The Sky is a project created, overseen, and directed by Serafino Perugino, President and A&R director of Frontiers Records Srl.

Like its 2021 predecessor, Evil And Divine, the music here is once again very heavy and firmly planted in the 'metal' category, with a wink to a traditional approach to the genre. While Tracii wrote the music for the album, the fact that Michael Sweet has been writing in an increasingly heavier style on latter-era Stryper albums made him a perfect vocalist for the album.

Tracii first leaked the news of the Sunbomb project in a March 2019 tweet, where he described the band's approaching debut LP as "the metal record I would have made when I was 17 years old.” then, in May 2020, he mentioned on Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk that: "(Evil and Divine) is really kind of like [L.A. Guns' 2019 album] The Devil You Know times three. It's more on the heavy side of The Devil You Know album. And Michael Sweet, he's a really fantastic metal singer."

About Light Up The Sky, Michael had this to say: "I’m always humbled to be a part of a project like this. This album takes the Sunbomb vision to another level with killer songs and amazing energy. Tracii really delivered on the riffs and it made it very easy for me to come up with melodies that were fitting for each song. It’s different yet familiar at the same time in the best of ways. We’re very fortunate to be working with a label that still believes in the best music in the world - rock!"
