They have always supported us and still do. It’s amazing to see the impact the fans have had on Volbeat, we’ve become fans of theirs, too.”
Recently, Volbeat announced their Record Store Day Black Friday release, Hokus Bonus: a vinyl-only compilation of ‘bonus tracks’ from special and international editions of the band’s previous albums. Limited to 3,000 copies, the LP features brand new cover art from long-time Volbeat illustrator Karsten Sand and will be pressed on “Magician’s Smoke” coloured vinyl. ESCAPE THE FATE has released the new song "Invincible" to herald the start of the pre-order campaign for the band's upcoming album, "Chemical Warfare". The new single features critically acclaimed fan-favorite American violinist, songwriter, and dancer Lindsey Stirling.
"Invincible" will appear on the soundtrack to "The Retaliators", a high-octane horror/thriller due out in 2021. Vocalist Craig Mabbit also makes an appearance as an undercover cop in the film alongside some of rock's biggest names, including the members of FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH, Jacoby Shaddix of PAPA ROACH and Tommy Lee, among others.
With the addition of Sterling's expert musicianship which is brought to the forefront at the end of the song, ESCAPE THE FATE was able to create a softer touch to a high-intensity track. Ortiz speaks about having Stirling on the song: "She is an angel – she has so much light in her. But the primary reason I wanted to work with her… strictly speaking musically, she is gnarly — her music is epic." Lindsey is a multi-faceted artist who has billions of views on her popular YouTube channel.
Stirling said: "I loved working with the guys! I originally started out by playing with rock bands, so this took me back to some fond memories from my past times. As I've learned more about their stories as individuals and as a band, it's cool that they truly represent fighting through darkness to find and chose light."
"Invincible", is the perfect word to use in describing ESCAPE THE FATE, which has survived personnel changes and the cancelation of tours due to the pandemic. The band has been consistently releasing new music for well over a decade to its audience of over four million dedicated social media followers.
On November 20, ESCAPE THE FATE will do a streaming concert, live worldwide, performing their greatest hits and songs from their forthcoming album. Tickets can be purchased on www.escapethefate.com now.
ESCAPE THE FATE is a three-word phrase synonymous with heavy rock 'n' roll and hooks, post-hardcore with weight, and unrelenting genre-redefining anthems built for diverse audiences. Over a decade into their young career, they have proven to move crowds equally at major rock radio festivals, the legendary Vans Warped Tour, or on the road with FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH. Craig Mabbitt, Kevin Thrasher, TJ Bell and Robert Ortiz have each been making music, and on the road, before they were old enough to drive. It's what has made the band's message transcend any sense of "difference" in genre, all around the world, touring with AVENGED SEVENFOLD, GODSMACK, PAPA ROACH, I PREVAIL, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE, HOLLYWOOD UNDEAD, HELLYEAH, ALL THAT REMAINS, and on multiple Vans Warped Tours.
With "Invincible" and "Chemical Warfare", ESCAPE THE FATE has created some of its best music to date. Made together with A-list producer John Feldmann (5 SECONDS OF SUMMER, THE USED), "Chemical Warfare" delivers an arsenal of driving bangers and melodic ballads that are among the best of the hard rock world. It's still about a good time, but with a deeper meaning. Each member of the band has grown as a musician over the years, from Craig's powerful vocals to Kevin "Thrasher" Gruft's production prowess,
"Invincible" as a song points to all of that and sends the message to the listener to stand up, move forward, and keep going. The new single follows the release of "Walk On", which was featured in the recently released "Sno Babies", made available via Better Noise Films.
Back in August, Dragonforce guitarists Herman Li and Sam Totman took a shot at writing a Sabaton song during one of Li's recent Twitch livestreams. Watch the step-by-step process below.

To celebrate Friday's reissue of their 2017 debut full-length, The Gravity Of Fall, Pacific Northwestern phenoms Vintersea - whose unique fusion of majestic progressive metal, harsh blackened death and post-metal beauty has received extensive critical acclaim - have unveiled an appropriately ambitious new music video for the album's epic centerpiece, "The Holy Procession". The clip - produced, edited, and directed by bassist Karl Whinnery - can be viewed below.
"'The Holy Procession' is the first song we wrote as a band,” says vocalist Avienne. “We wanted to produce a video that captured the magic in the room when we wrote that song. All the stops were pulled to make this video in terms of dramatism and performance from both the band and actors in the video. We are happy to show how much we have matured in both our performances and video production quality. 'The Holy Procession' has been a band- and fan-favorite, and we are proud to release a music video for it as an accompaniment to the reissue."
The music video for “The Holy Procession” is a sprawling concept video that matches the artistic ambition of Vintersea, complementing the 10-minute sonic journey through musical twists and turns, all of them showcasing the group's thrilling combination of hooks and heaviness. Portions were shot on location at the Historic Cumberland Church in Albany, Oregon. The music video is part of an ongoing community effort to restore the building, originally constructed in 1892.
“I came into the band after the first album was released and 'The Holy Procession' was my favorite track,” says bassist Karl Whinnery. “This video was tricky. Our initial filming dates were canceled due to the biblical fires that hit Oregon and choked our skies. Some of the outdoor shots were before the air quality went off the rails and everything had a red overtone. We decided to incorporate that into the video as an undercurrent theme. On a more positive note, we were lucky enough to film at a beautiful turn-of-the-century church in Albany, Oregon. A group is working hard to move it to a new location and make it a community, event and music center. You can see their progress and help their mission at albanycumberland.org!"
M-Theory Audio will shine a brighter light on the acclaimed predecessor to Illuminated, 2017's The Gravity Of Fall, with a limited-edition double-LP release that will spread Vintersea's initial full-length blast of sonic power – as well as their debut five-track 2014 EP, Constellations – across four sides of blackened wax. A CD reissue featuring expanded artwork and the Constellations material as downloadable bonus tracks will also be offered. Both formats are available now for preorder here.
Originally self-released in 2017, the album was recorded by Justin Phelps (The Mars Volta, Joe Satriani) and mixed by Evan Sammons (Last Chance To Reason). A taste of the group's nascent sound of the time can be found in the chilling music video for “The Host,” which has received more than 500,000 views on YouTube, and was produced, directed, and edited by Vintersea bassist Karl Whinnery.
Fronted by Malaysian-born singer Avienne, whose vocal range spans from haunting melodies to fierce growls, Vintersea delivers heavy, emotionally powerful and technically intriguing music that is undeniably inspired by the majesty of the Pacific Northwest. The band's compelling combination of progressive metal, black metal and post-metal has been showcased live alongside groups such as Ne Obliviscaris, Jinjer, The Ocean, Sirenia and Arkona. The group – which recently released a “quarantine playthrough video” for the “Illuminated” track “Fiery Tongue” – is currently putting the finishing touches on another new music video, which will be released in the coming weeks.
Portnoy (SONS OF APOLLO, DREAM THEATER) has teamed up with bassist Stu Hamm, guitarist Paulie Z and keyboardist Walter Ino to record a cover version of the RUSH classic "YYZ", filmed while they were in quarantine. The clip was premiered this past Tuesday (July 14) as part of the David Z Foundation's third annual fundraising campaign.
This past January, Mike Portnoy shot down rumors that he will tour with Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson as the replacement for late RUSH drummer Neil Peart.
Mike previously discussed the possibility of a collaboration with Lee and Lifeson during a January 2019 interview with Eric Blair of "The Blairing Out With Eric Blair Show". At the time, he said: "The reality is, look, those guys are my heroes and Neil as well, obviously. I would do it in a heartbeat if hypothetically it was ever asked. But that being said, in a hypothetical world, if the call ever came, yeah, it would be a dream gig for me. Of course."
When Blair pointed out to Portnoy that a new Lee-Lifeson collaboration would not be called RUSH, making it easier for Mike to just "slip right in there," the drummer said: "Hey, I know the tunes. I've been playing 'em my whole life. In fact, I just did a really cool RUSH tribute. It's a steel drum tribute, with a pan drum orchestra of 50 different steel drummers and myself on drums and guitar and bass, and we recorded a bunch of RUSH songs, but with this 50-piece steel drum orchestra. It was really cool."
In addition to SONS OF APOLLO — whose sophomore album "MMXX" was released in January — Portnoy is currently a member of five other bands — TRANSATLANTIC; THE NEAL MORSE BAND; all-star metal collective METAL ALLEGIANCE; pop/prog supergroup FLYING COLORS; and THE WINERY DOGS.
When Peart's death was first made public on January 10, Lifeson and Lee revealed in a statement that he had been diagnosed with brain cancer three and a half years earlier, just a few months after the band completed its final tour.
Last night (October 17th) Sammy Hagar and his band The Circle - featuring former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony, drummer Jason Bonham and guitarist Vic Johnson - performed from the shores of Catalina Island in California for a special pay-per-view broadcast available on Nugs.tv in in HD or 4K. Special guests including REO Speedwagon’s Kevin Cronin and Rick Springfield.
Check out behind-the-scenes footage and the band belting out the Red Rocker classic “There’s Only One Way To Rock” below:
Kittie drummer Mercedes Lander's other band, The White Swan, sees her singing and playing guitar teamed up with bassist Kira Longeuay and guitarist Shane Jeffers. The trio hit the studio late last year to begin working on new material. They released their new EP, Nocturnal Transmission, on September 18th. Check out the official video for their cover of Tracy Bonham's "Tell It To The Sky" below
Lander previously commented on the track:
"I've always thought that 'Tell It To The Sky' was a fantastically well-written song. I always try to really think outside the box when it comes to choosing covers and I tend to pick songs that you wouldn't expect a band like The White Swan to cover. Tracy Bonham's The Burdens Of Being Upright was released the same year I started playing drums and started my first band and this was my favorite song from that record when it was released. I did my best to capture the soaring vocal melodies and we added some layered EBow for the verses which creates a bit of a darker vibe from the original."
Reprising a long-time creative relationship with producer Siegfried Meier, Lander felt both at home and re-energized by the familiarity and collaborative nature of their work. Recording took just two days, retaining many of the hallmarks of The White Swan's earlier output, but adding a slightly polished sheen to the proceedings. With vocal layering and touches of psychedelic synths adding textural elements to the songs, the result is an enveloping experience of fuzzed out guitars and molasses-like melody. Describing Nocturnal Transmission as a "turning point" for the band, the album art by collage artist Caitlyn Grabenstein reflects the feeling of standing on the precipice, staring into the unknown. Acknowledging that there will always be a constant sound to The White Swan, Lander states that their main intention is to "grow and grow." With an ever-developing sound and a solid combination of creative musicians in their ranks, Nocturnal Transmission is the latest in what is sure to be an ever expanding back catalog of triumphs.
In advance of the release of Nocturnal Transmission, the band released a video for opening track, "In Love And Ritual". Lander comments:
"'In Love And Ritual' is about finding the person that completes you and the journey of realizing how having that person in your life teaches us to become brand new; kind of like a rebirth of feeling and emotional connection. I really wanted to create space with this song, keeping the roller coaster of dynamics in the forefront with a touch of chaos running in the background. Having the lyrics and melody build with the music and really complement each other."

"In Love And Ritual"
"Nocturnal Transmission"
"Purple"
"Tell It To The Sky" (Tracy Bonham cover)
Leviathan Records has released the video below, along with the following message:

Chastain song, and features Michael's impressive chops! Also in this band is David Harbour who plays an amazing solo afterwards. This video was shot by Neal Turpin."

Iceland rock giants Sólstafir have post an unboxing video for their new album, Endless Twilight Of Codependent Love. Check it out below.
Sólstafir recently unveiled the harrowing official music video for their brand new song, "Her Fall from Grace". The stark video, which chronicles the pain of watching a loved one succumb to addiction and depression, can be seen below.
Vocalist Aðalbjörn Tryggvason comments: "We present to you the next single from our upcoming album Endless Twilight Of Codependent Love entitled, 'Her Fall From Grace'. We hope you enjoy it and take from it what you need."
"Her Fall From Grace" is taken from Sólstafir's seventh studio album, Endless Twilight Of Codependent Love, which is due on November 6 via Season Of Mist. Pre-orders can be placed now at this location.
While early Sólstafir lyrics delved into Nordic mythology and critiques of organized religion, more recent songs explore their spiritual connection with nature, and lately, mental disorders ranging from depression to alcoholism and the taboo behind men in particular discussing those things for fear of being perceived weak.
“That’s the real darkness that you can't see, but you can feel it and people around you can feel it,” explains Tryggvason. “Of course, there are serial killers and plagues and whatever through history. But in modern day life, that's the true darkness around you. People kill themselves every day, and often people close to you who have been feeling so bad.”
He says the most personal song on Endless Twilight Of Codependent Love is “Her Fall From Grace,” the lone track in English. It chronicles the pain of watching a loved one succumb to mental illness.
“It's very sad when you love someone and you see them get sick,” muses Tryggvason. “Like Layne Staley said, ‘Slow suicide is no way to go.’ But you’re just watching on the audience bench, preparing for the phone call. ‘Hey man, Johnny's dead.’ ‘All right, I knew Johnny was gonna die. I've been watching him in slow motion.’” He likens the experience to seeing a relative or parent be consumed by Alzheimer’s and turn into a different person than one remembers.
Although the band’s lyrics are predominately in Icelandic, that does not prevent outside listeners from appreciating the emotional power of their music. It has been said that many fans can feel his pain even if they do not overtly understand what he is singing about.
Endless Twilight Of Codependent Love was recorded at the Sundlaugin Studio (Iceland), where Svartir Sandar, Ótta and Berdreyminn were also recorded by producer Birgir Jón Birgisson (Sigur Rós, Alcest, Damien Rice).
The cover artwork and tracklisting are as follows. The painting is a watercolour of the Lady Of The Mountain, which was designed in 1864 by artist Johann Baptist Zwecker.

Apocalyptica recently released their new digital single, "Talk To Me" featuring Halestorm's Lzzy Hale. Get it here, and watch a lyric video below.
"After years of friendship we are more than happy to release a song together with the amazing Lzzy of Halestorm! This song has been in our minds for quite some time and we have been waiting for the right moment to finish it, and getting Lzzy to join us and perform in her outstanding way was a dream come true! We want to thank Lzzy and the whole Halestorm team for their great work and friendship." - Eicca Toppinen
“Apocalyptica and I have for years talked about doing something together, and the last time I saw Eicca Toppinen, in Helsinki, Finland during the 2019 Tuska Festival, he brought up the idea that we finally make that talk a reality. I’m so excited for the world to hear this song! Thank you so much to the entire Apocalyptica camp for being a part of our family all these years and for including me in this project!” - Lzzy Hale
Norway-based multi-instrumentalist Leo Moracchioli, who has made a name for himself releasing metal covers primarily of famous mainstream pop and rock songs, has recorded a fun metal rendition of the Van Halen classic "Jump" in tribute to Eddie Van Halen. Guitarist Ben Eller guests for the guitar solo.
Baol Bardot Bulsara, frontman of Norwegian hard rockers TNT, has released an acoustic rendition of Van Halen's “Dreams”, from the album 5150, which was the first VH music he heard, as a teenager. Baol has arranged and recorded all instruments and vocals at his studio in Madrid, Spain. Watch the video below.
Bulsara states: “Well, as much as I love this song since forever, I wish I didn't ever have a "reason" to record it now... This is a simplified recording, quite basic, since I have no firework-guitar skills at all. But that was neither the intention for it. Eddie was not only a terrific and pioneer guitarist, it was also about the songs! And this one, in my ears, is THE song. So my rendition is to your music. Thank you, Edward... Baol.”
Tallah will released their new album, Matriphagy, on October 2 via Earache Records. Order the album here, and watch a video for the song "No One Should Read This" below.
An original dose of fucked up and disturbing alt-metal insanity! Exhilaratinghly fresh whilst incorporating nostalgic 90s nu-metal vibes - vocalist Justin Bonitz is a man possessed, wildly careering form blood curdling shrieks to lightning quick rap bars. Throw in electronic elements and almighty riffs plus modern hardcore breakdowns and Tallah are 2020's answer to Slipknot.
Notorious for their wild, unhinged and downright dangerous live shows, Tallah have cultivated a fierce live reputation on the underground circuit with multiple US tours and a European festival trip last summer, including their UK debut at Boomtown Fair opening for Napalm Death and Prophets Of Rage.
Matriphagy is a concept album about how an overprotective mother pushes her son to the edge of insanity through psychological and physical abuse. Having spent two decades trapping inside a glorified prison, and after some failed rescue/escape attempts, the son, in a state of heavy delirium, does the unforgivable to free himself from his mother's wicked hold. A disturbingly graphic tale that is to be taken both literally and metaphorically, Matriphagy is set to a pleasurably harrowing backdrown of brutally heavy musicianship, an unapologetic love-letter to chaos, and the sickening twist of the macabre.
Max Portnoy offers the following insight into the musical direction of the band’s latest single: "'The Silo' is the lightest track on the album, and the first time we've experimented with using more dynamics in our music. This song is a good example of showcasing what else we can do with our sound aside from the raw heaviness displayed in all our other tracks."

Fender's Japanese division has uploaded a video of former MEGADETH guitarist Marty Friedman playing one of the instruments in the guitar manufacturer's "Made In Japan Modern Series". The range is comprised of seven new models based on classic Jazz Bass, Jazzmaster, Stratocaster and Telecaster shapes.
As previously reported, Marty's long-awaited documentary, titled "Spacefox", will tentatively arrive in 2021. The film, which is being directed by Jeremy Frindel, the founder of Substratum Films, follows Friedman's reinvention from lead guitarist in MEGADETH to one of the most famous TV comedians in Japan.
Earlier in the month, Friedman released a "Home Jams" version of his song "Self Pollution", which originally appeared on the 2017 album "Wall Of Sound". The new rendition of the song features Friedman, along with his longtime bandmates Kiyoshi (bass) and Jordan Ziff (guitar), plus Anup Sastry (drums). The split-screen video was filmed in Tokyo, Osaka, Phoenix and Baltimore, with each musician separated in his or her home.
"Wall Of Sound" was released in August 2017 via Prosthetic Records. Produced by Friedman, engineered by Paul Fig (GHOST, RUSH, ALICE IN CHAINS) and mixed by Jens Bogren (KREATOR, OPETH, SEPULTURA), the disc "expands and destroys any conventional notions of instrumental music," according to a press release. Legendary QUEEN producer Mack came on board to handle the mixing on two tracks, "Streetlight" and "For A Friend", which Friedman proclaimed was "an honor for me, for sure."
Jon Anderson (YES) has released the video below, "Go Screw Yourself" (Election Edit), along with the following message:
"Wrote this song after the horrific school shootings at Sandy Hook... and more... just breaks your heart when nothing gets done... Gun laws be dammed... same with priests screwing children in the name of WHAT!!!.... then hiding it all away!!!
"So now is the perfect time for the song to be heard and seen... we are at a breaking point with a mad man in charge of this amazing country... we must change our being to help the world heal... and yes I said Fuckers!!! So what!!!... 'make love not war'... John Lennon... peace and love always." - Jon
THE APOCALYPSE BLUES REVIVAL, the Florida-based psychedelic rock side project of GODSMACK drummer Shannon Larkin and guitarist Tony Rombola, will release its self-titled album on December 11. The official music video for the disc's first single, "Optimystic".
"'Optimystic' is calling out to the societal blindness of repeating the same mistakes repeatedly, and willing for change to happen, willing a REVIVAL," says the band in discussing the song.
The nine-track album loosely follows an autobiographical narrative centered around a protagonist on the left-hand path, embracing dark magic rituals that begins on "Waltz Of The Antichrist/Impure", and later changes his ways to ascension concluding with the seven minute-plus track, "A Gecko (Part 2) - The Endless Possibility Of Water (666 Reprise)" that stretches towards a fiery musical catharsis.
Larkin stated: "When you listen to the album, I'd love it if you actually took a trip with us through this dark abyss and came out of it 45 minutes later with a new perspective."
THE APOCALYPSE BLUES REVIVAL sinks into the sweet spot between devilish Delta blues, hard-hitting rock, and inter-dimensional psychedelia. The eclectic array of genres offers opposites of light and dark through musical expression, with tribal percussion echoes alongside a thick bass line during "The Abomination Of Desolation", and a wild wah pedal and slick rhythm on "The Doorway".
"The Apocalypse Blues Revival" track listing:
01. Waltz Of The Antichrist/Impure
02. The Abomination Of Desolation
03. Can't Shake The Blues
04. No One Will Miss Me
05. The Doorway
06. Written In To The World
07. Optimystic
08. Enjoy The Ride
09. A Gecko (Part 2) – The Endless Possibility Of Water (666 Reprise)
THE APOCALYPSE BLUES REVIVAL materialized in 2020. For nearly a decade, Larkin and Rombola threw down at biker bars, blues haunts, and dyed-in-the-wool venues around the country in an RV with bassist Brian Carpenter. "Tony and I are in our fifties now, and we got to rough it," he laughs. "We felt like real blues guys!"
Under the name of THE APOCALYPSE BLUES REVUE originally, they churned out two albums, "The Apocalypse Blues Revue" (2016) and "The Shape Of Blues To Come" (2018), that generated nearly one million total streams. During late 2019, Shannon welcomed lifelong friend and lead singer, Shane Hall into the fold. A few years ago, Shane held down vocals in a wild funk outfit alongside Shannon and Tony, sparking a flame fanned to its fullest potential in THE APOCALYPSE BLUES REVIVAL.
The quartet casted an unbreakable spell on their new self-titled independent full-length debut. For Shannon, this idea of the new album initially blossomed on a tour bus during a freezing January in Europe. Slowly but surely, the songs came to life in order, sketched out on hotel notepads and written wherever possible. Processing the loss of his sister, he translated this pain into the story.
"It's a completely different band," affirms Shannon. "We've shifted into more of a psychedelic rock sound. My big vision was to simply mix the influences from my two favorite classic rock artists — David Bowie and PINK FLOYD — with my favorite blues artists: Johnny Winter, Stevie Ray Vaughan and B.B. King. The foundation is always blues. That's how I approach the drums, but we're veering off into more eclectic areas and rock. As the guy who writes the lyrics and melodies, I'm limited to my singer. Shane has taken all of those limitations away. He's such an extension of me that it's no wonder we've been best friends for twenty years."
