SATYRICON To Begin Recording New Album In January

Metal Wani's Jackie Mtz conducted an interview with drummer Kjetil-Vidar "Frost" Haraldstad of Norwegian black metallers SATYRICON at this year's edition of the Bloodstock Open Air festival, which was held August 11-14 at Catton Hall, Walton-On-Trent, West Midlands, United Kingdom. You can now watch the chat below. A couple of excerpts follow (transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).

On SATYRICON's previously announced plans to record a new studio album and release a separate album of covers:

Frost: "We have now decided to enter the studio in January to record our own studio album. The original plan was to record a cover album first. But as we started up that process, we got very inspired to write our own material first, and that is more important for a band like us. So when that ball had started to roll, it was the only right thing to do, to continue letting the ball roll and finish work with the album, and then return to the cover album project. Anything else would have been the wrong idea for this band. And it's hard to tell exactly when we're gonna release the cover album. But both the recording and release of a new studio album will happen next year."

On what keeps inspiring SATYRICON to continue making new music:

Frost: "I think, more than anything else, it's that true passion that we have for music in general and black metal in particular. That kind of gives a creative and inspired foundation. And such a fundamental evolution will be perhaps the one constant factor in the band; we will always observe, learn, improve… We'll have constant dynamic process going on. Creativity, basically. And as long as that is there, I think that you can go on for a long time and always experience that you can get better at things and that you can take things further and explore new musical territory. This is really something that we have in our hearts, and SATYRICON is a channel for us to express ourselves musically and to create something unique that couldn't have been done by any other band. When we're working on such a creative and inspired album as we do currently, I can hardly see that there's an end to this very soon. We have a long way to go still, lots of things to discover, many things that we can do better, and I think that we will never lose touch with our roots either."

SATYRICON is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its seminal album "Nemesis Divina" with a never-to-be-repeated series of exclusive European shows, wherein the Norwegian trailblazers are performing the album in its entirety for the first and last time.

To herald the 20th anniversary of this most illustrious piece of dark art, "Nemesis Divina" was re-released in spring 2016, newly remastered by Satyr himself and boasting upgraded and revamped packaging worthy of an album that has had a huge and enduring impact on both the black metal scene and underground heavy music in general.

В 2013 году хороший альбом вышел. Не Nemesis Divina, конечно, но на достойном уровне. Одна Tro Og Kraft чего стоит...

конечно, средневековых мотивов эпохи викингов уже не будет, увы, но на это есть такие группы как kampfar и taake, у которых это на голову лучше продуманно, еще с тех времен, когда они записали промо демки, а Сатир, видимо решил идти по стопам DarkThrone в сторону Celtic Frost после урбанистического альбома 99 года.

Gravitgroove все правильно сказанно..единственное не согласен что путём dark throne ...у Satyricon свой великий путь...они великие....как Burzum Taake Emperor....у всех этих коллективов свой путь .....и другие просто идут за ними...

vavas88, я имел ввиду иное - не конкретно копирование Darkthrone, а путь в сторону блэк-трэша, а Celtic Frost/Hellhammer - это не только messiah, into the crypt of raid, circle of the tyrants, the unsuper и т.д. Вспоминается обилие духовых партий в том же противоречивом для хронических металлюг Now Diabolical, а эти "дудочки", как раз были тем элементом, который Сигурт взял на вооружение вдохновившись открывашкой с To Mega Therion, в то время, как DarkThrone все больше спускались в реликт к демкам Hellhammer, обзывая это почему-то краст-панком.

Я честно не вижу в чем Celtic и Satyricon можно сравнивать....а тёмностул всегда считал и считаю не Блэк музыкой ....

vavas88, насчёт Иммортал согласен.
После Battle in the north они таковыми и стали.
А Мэйхем я перестал слушать после того как побывал на их концерте. Миф моментально развеялся...

Я пробовал слушать майхем с альбома типа культового мистериас дом сатанас.....ну шляпа же полная...ну а какие они мудаки можно посмотреть даже не на концерте а в фильме путешествие металлиста....

Я этот альбом услышал через пару лет после его выхода и в том информационном вакууме, когда было всего пару интервью Хэллхаммера и Викернеса, вокруг него витала очень вдохновляющая аура. А это сильно влияло на восприятие музыки. Если отстраненно воспринимать этот музыкальный материал, возможно в чём-то ты и прав:)
А то как они себя сейчас ведут... Ну это обыкновенная туровая группа, которая ездит по миру, бухает в автобусе и играет на фестивалях. Если бы я сразу всё это увидел, не слушал бы я блэк, это к гадалке не ходи, хаха!

Ну к счастью Блэк Это не только майхем и иммортал......Taake Satyricon тоже туровые группы.....но они себя так не ведут....был на сатириконе у нас в Новосибирске ...один из лучших зальников какие я видел.... Тааке много в идел по видео...интервью ...все адекватно...варг тоже абсолютно все по делу и интересно говорит.....

Hellhammer, всё же, один из лучших барабанщиков в блэке был для своего времени. Ну а Сатирикон это был вообще первый большой концерт, на который я попал.
