JOHN 5 Claims ROB ZOMBIE 'Was Fine' About Him Joining MÖTLEY CRÜE: 'He Wasn't Psyched, But He Understood'During an appearance on yesterday's (Wednesday, May 10) edition of SiriusXM's "Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk", former ROB ZOMBIE guitarist John 5 spoke about how he came to join MÖTLEY CRÜE last fall as the replacement for the band's co-founding guitarist Mick Mars. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "Well, I've been friends with Nikki [Sixx, MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist] and Tommy [Lee, MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer] forever — forever and ever and ever. I'm so close to Nikki. We talked, like, probably 80 times a day for a decade. And we've done so much work together. We worked on the Meat Loaf song together, 'The Monster's Loose'; SIXX:A.M., of course; L.A. RATS; 'The Dirt' [soundtrack]. But other than music, we were just always around. I mean, he was the best man at my wedding. And we'd always go to the mall and ride bikes and just do total normal stuff. So when this came about… We were talking to each other on tour, like, 'All right, dude. I'm going on stage.' And he's, like, 'All right, dude. I'm going on stage. I'll talk to you after the show,' and blah blah blah. So we talked pretty much every day when he was on tour and I was on tour at the same time with the [Rob] Zombie thing. We were doing 'Freaks On Parade'. It was great — great shows, packed to the nines, and having a good time and laughing and making music. And the tour ended. We went home. Actually, I went to do some CREATURES shows, my instrumental thing. And MÖTLEY was finished. They were off tour. And I was still doing some shows. And Nikki called and said, 'Listen, Mick is going to retire. And we have these obligations from Live Nation. We have South America booked. We have Europe booked. Would you wanna come on board?' And I was, 'Absolutely.' I mean, it's just like your brother asking you or something like that. But now the hard part was telling Rob [Zombie], because we never had a negative word between us. And he's my buddy and we made great music and great live shows together for 17 years, and we never really had a problem. But I was thinking to myself, I was, like, 'Life is short.' And I'm being completely honest with you — 'Life is short. I wanna experience as much as I can in life.' And I was thinking about myself. And I was, like, 'I wanna do this for me, because I'm 51 years old' at the time, and I was, like, 'I wanna do this. I want to experience this.' How many times do you get a new chapter in your life at this magnitude later in life? And I talked to Rob, and he understood. Rob is a smart, rational person. I mean, he wasn't psyched, but he understood. And I think that was amazing of him. And he was just, like, 'Go get 'em.' He was fine about it. And then they got [Mike] Riggs, who I think is a great addition. That's who he was using when Rob did the early solo records, and I think it's a great addition. And they're kicking ass."
Detailing how he told Rob about his decision to leave his band and join MÖTLEY CRÜE, John 5 said: "I told Rob before it got out in the press. But I agreed to Nikki. And I called Rob and I said, 'This is what's happening.' And we did a show, Louder Than Life, together, and that was my last show [with Rob] in Kentucky. And then they got Riggs and were rehearsing with him and did the Aftershock show. And then it was announced — my time frame is not great, but then I believe it was announced a little bit after that. But it was no bad blood or anything; it wasn't anything bad; it wasn't dramatic or anything. And Rob was super cool. He was, like, 'Hey, I get it.' He was cool about it."
Asked if he has spoken with Rob since his announcement that he was joining MÖTLEY CRÜE, John 5 said: "To be honest, I haven't, and I miss talking with him and texting with him. I'm more worried about him not texting me back or not replying. I think that would really break my heart. That's the thing. I think I'd be really bummed out about that. But I haven't. To answer your question, no, I haven't."
Elaborating on his reasons for leaving Zombie's band and joining MÖTLEY CRÜE, John 5 said: "In the 17 years of being with Zombie, I got asked to join a ton of bands — a ton of bands. But, listen, I am so close with the guys, and with Mick too. So close with the guys. Something said, 'You've gotta do it.' It's just something I really wanted to do. Because life is show. I wanna experience everything. I don't wanna be laying in my bed at 126 years old — that's what I plan to live to be — laying in my bed at 126 years old going, 'God, I wish I would have done this, that and the other thing.' But I'll probably say that to myself anyways. But it's been an amazing ride so far."
Last month, Sixx spoke with Wyatt of U.K.'s Planet Rock about MÖTLEY CRÜE's decision to hire John 5 to replace Mick, who announced his retirement from touring with MÖTLEY CRÜE last October as a result of worsening health issues.
"I've been friends with John forever and I would make jokes, 'As long as you're a 5, I feel good being a Sixx.' Y'know, stupid best buddy jokes. Me and that guy have been either hanging out at each other's houses, writing songs… he plays (guitar) all day long. So, he comes over here and he grabs one of my guitars or brings his own and we just sit around and play and talk about the '70s and how great LYNYRD SKYNYRD and 'Scooby Doo' was."
He continued: "My wife just said that when Mick told us he was leaving the band and I told her I'd talked to Tommy and Vince [Neil, CRÜE singer], and everybody feels that John would be a great fit, and I hadn't called John yet because you had to be sure we were doing everything correctly. My wife said, 'Well, that's great.' I said, 'What do you mean by that?' She goes, 'Well, you'll be going on stage and you'll be on the phone to John.' And they're, like, 'You gotta go on stage!', and he'll be like 'Okay, call me back in an hour and a half.'
"So we're always chatting and jamming and the friendship is so wonderful. Him and Tommy are really close. Vince loves him. He's just a great guy and a great musician and he gives us a great opportunity as a three-piece so to speak to really lock in. He's just such a great guitar player."
Comparing CRÜE 's current musicianship to how it was while Mick was still in the band, Nikki added: "It's nothing against any other musician that you play with, just that when you play with new musicians you play differently. We're still playing the same songs that people wanna hear but it kind of like re-inspires you. And I'm sure the same thing would happen if they got a new bass player. They're like 'oh wow, he's attacking it differently.' So it's never about how bad anybody was.
"It's a nice time [for MÖTLEY CRÜE] and it's kind of inspired us to write a little bit," he added. "We love our history, we're very proud of everything we've done. We've always been really supportive of Mick no matter what Mick was going through. We're just happy with where we're at right now."
When Mars announced his retirement from touring with MÖTLEY CRÜE, he maintained that he would remain a member of the band, with John 5 taking his place on the road. However, last month the 71-year-old musician filed a lawsuit against CRÜE in Los Angeles County's Superior Court claiming that, after his announcement, the rest of CRÜE tried to remove him as a significant stakeholder in the group's corporation and business holdings via a shareholders' meeting. Specifically, Mars claims he was asked to sign a severance agreement that would divest him of his 25 percent stake in the band's various business interests in return for a 5 percent stake in the band's 2023 tour. This stake, the lawsuit alleges, would be reduced to 0 percent for future tours. Mick claims CRÜE's management later upped the offer from 5 percent to a 7.5 percent stake in the band's 2023 tour, which would remain contingent on Mars divesting himself from the band and their businesses. When Mars refused to sign the papers, the band took the dispute to arbitration "rather than a public lawsuit so that the public would not be aware of the deplorable manner in which they treated their 'brother' of 41 years," Mick claims in the lawsuit.
Regarding Mick 's lawsuit against MÖTLEY CRÜE, Nikki told Planet Rock: "If a member of a band tells you that they can't tour because of health reasons, you have two choices. You can quit as a band [after] 42 years of work. Or we could look at each other and go 'are we done yet?!' We're really peaking and we understand [Mick 's] health issues.
"We wish him the best and we know that he's a little bit confused and being misled by representatives right now. But we still have to stay focused on why we're here."
Mars suffers from Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS),a chronic and inflammatory form of arthritis that mainly affects the spine and pelvis. After years of performing through the pain, he informed the other members of MÖTLEY CRÜE last summer that he could no longer tour with them but would still be open to recording new music or performing at residencies that did not require much travel.
In his lawsuit, Mars also alleged that he was the only band member to play 100 percent live on their most recent tour, claiming Sixx "did not play a single note on bass during the entire U.S. tour."
After Mars filed his lawsuit, Sixx responded on Twitter, writing: "Sad day for us and we don't deserve this considering how many years we've been propping him up. We still wish him the best and hope he find's [sic] lawyers and managers who aren't damaging him. We love you Mick."
According to Variety, Mars's attorney said he was warned by the band's lawyers that "if your client rejects the severance package that was graciously offered to him by the band, he will get next to nothing. I suggest you think about the repercussions of this decision… There is undisputed legal cause here for Mick's removal. Mick is unable to perform as a full-fledged band member. Among other things, as demonstrated during the last tour, he repeatedly forgets his chords, does not play the right song, plays chords of a different song while on stage, and so on."
Mick's filing claimed that MÖTLEY CRÜE filed an arbitration case against him in February, "essentially suing him" to prove that it had the right to fire him from the band.
"They clearly commenced an arbitration, rather than a public lawsuit, so that the public would not be aware of the deplorable manner in which they treated their 'brother' of 41 years," lawyers for Mars wrote in the petition.
Mick is suing MÖTLEY CRÜE so he can go over all the financial books and determine if he's getting what he feels he deserves. 4

ASKING ALEXANDRIA Shares 'Dark Void', First Single From Upcoming Eighth Full-Length AlbumBritish rockers ASKING ALEXANDRIA have shared "Dark Void", the first preview of music from their as-yet-untitled full-length studio album, due this fall via Better Noise Music. Available now digitally, "Dark Void" presents contrasting themes of melancholy and aspiration of day-to-day life in the modern world, while seamlessly blending the band's anthemic stadium rock sound with a call back to their metalcore beginnings. Watch the music video for "Dark Void" below.
"With the world seemingly getting darker and darker, it's easy to see why so many of us struggle with anxiety, depression, loneliness," relays guitarist Ben Bruce. "This song is about fighting those demons that live in your head and trying your hardest to be your own savior. Finding that inner strength to pull yourself out of the darkness. This theme is explored throughout the entirety of our upcoming album.
"We all have our own struggles and hurdles. We are all on our own journeys that present unique challenges and difficulties, but we all have our own inner strength to fall back on. There is always light at the end of the tunnel. I feel that there can be comfort in knowing that we aren't alone. We all feel a little down from time to time. We all feel a little lost from time to time, but somehow, in some way, we are all in this together and hopefully our new album can help people through some of their toughest times."
ASKING ALEXANDRIA — Ben Bruce (lead guitars),Danny Worsnop (vocals),Cameron Liddell (rhythm guitars),Sam Bettley (bass) and James Cassells (drums) — have relentlessly toured across the globe in addition to being showcased at several of rock's top worldwide festivals, including Download (UK),Hellfest (France),Graspop Metal Meeting (Belgium),Aftershock (USA) and many more. They will spend the summer touring across Europe before heading stateside in July for three festival appearances: Rock Fest (July 14, Wisconsin),Inkcarceration Festival (July 15, Ohio) and Louder Than Life (July 21, Kentucky).
Having joined Better Noise Music in 2021 with the release of their critically acclaimed album "See What's On The Inside", ASKING ALEXANDRIA subsequently achieved their first-ever No. 1 Active Rock radio single "Alone Again" and a follow-up Top 10 single with "Never Gonna Learn" (No. 6) in 2022 from their EP of the same name. The band has garnered over 1.4 billion combined streams to date across all platforms along with over 3.1 million monthly Spotify listeners. Their music videos have received over 700 million views.
ASKING ALEXANDRIA is currently offering a once-in-a-lifetime experience to shadow the band on tour for a day, including a guitar tech session with Bruce where the winner will also get to take home the signed guitar, as part of Better Noise Music's "Fan Love Sweepstakes" fundraiser supporting Sweet Relief Musicians Fund's "Music's Mental Health Fund". The grand prize winner and a guest will receive airfare and a two-night hotel stay to attend the concert, plus they'll receive a pair of VIP tickets to a future ASKING ALEXANDRIA show of their choice (subject to venue availability). AVENGED SEVENFOLD Releases New Song 'We Love You'AVENGED SEVENFOLD has released a new song called "We Love You" — an ode to decrying the rat race. A frenetic dynamic rollercoaster riddled with hooks, peaks and valleys, the track latest comes with an innovative 360 VR music video. The band's highly anticipated eighth album, "Life Is But a Dream..." , drops June 2 via Warner.
"More power, more pace, more money, more taste," singer M. Shadows delivers the unforgettable lyrics that relate to what keeps us pushing and being the motivators and destroyers of our self and reality. The song depicts the forced feeling our society pushes on us to consume, push, stretch and empty everything we can, if not halted result in possibly our own downfall. AVENGED SEVENFOLD are masters at dynamic transitions over the course of one song, and this is no exception.
The music video for "We Love You" is no less ambitious. Artist Ryan McKinnon, using Unreal Engine, has crafted an enveloping, innovative visual experience which has been optimized for Oculus in VR and 360 on YouTube. The visualizer begins in the peaceful natural world, before the pressure of society takes over and the world starts building at a crazy pace.
AVENGED SEVENFOLD will support the forthcoming "Life Is But a Dream..." album with multiple massive live shows this year which include headlining the Welcome To Rockville festival on May 19 in Daytona, Florida followed by another headlining set at Sonic Temple in Columbus, Ohio on May 26. The band will bring it back home to California for the first time since 2008 with an arena show at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles on June 9 before taking over Madison Square Garden on June 23, for their first New York City appearance since 2007. But that’s just the beginning. This summer, the band is taking off on a North American tour with ALEXISONFIRE, FALLING IN REVERSE and KIM DRACULA.
"We Love You" follows AVENGED SEVENFOLD's previous single and return to the spotlight with "Nobody", which arrived with a stunning stop-motion video directed by Chris Hopewell that peaked at No. 1 Trending YouTube and has over four million views to date. The track itself has nabbed nearly 12 million cumulative streams since its release in mid-March.
The band is also hosting an immersive album listening event at AREA 15 in Las Vegas from May 11 to May 14 where fans can hear "Life Is But A Dream…" in full three weeks early.
Additionally, yesterday they announced a surprise show for today at AREA 15 A-Lot on May 12. The 360-degree immersive album experience is complete with captivating visuals and an exclusive curated merch pop-up shop celebrating their genre-bending new album.
In a recent interview with I-Rock 93.5, AVENGED SEVENFOLD bassist Johnny Christ spoke about how he and his bandmates evolve musically on every album while still maintaining the core AVENGED SEVENFOLD sound. He said: "It's not a conscious thing. Pretty much every record that we've always done, we challenge ourselves to sound different and do something different. Like I said, we've done it every time in our career. Each time you do that, we put so much of us into creating that art that it becomes part of our DNA. And whether we know it or not, it's still there in the next writing process and the next writing process and the next writing process. So much so that at this point — we all talk about it internally — no matter what we say… We can say we wanna sound like the craziest hip-hop thing or a classical thing or whatever, but once you put it through us, it goes through the quote-unquote AVENGED SEVENFOLD filter. And that's just us. That's where you get that character of AVENGED SEVENFOLD, really.
"So, to answer the question, it's not like a direct thought of, like, 'Oh, no. We went too crazy. Let's bring it back and make it more AVENGED-y.' It's, like, no. We're going for it," he continued. "This is what it sounds like when we go for it.
"We have distinct players in this band. You've got a lead vocalist like M. Shadows — a very distinct, awesome voice. You've got the guitar work of Synyster [Gates] and Zacky [Vengeance] — just so distinct. And who's gonna mix up Brooks Wackerman's style with anybody else? It's just we have a bunch of unique players together that I think no matter how far out we go, it's gonna fall into that uniqueness anyway, and it just sounds like AVENGED SEVENFOLD by the end of the day."
Written and recorded over the span of four years, "Life Is But a Dream..." was inspired by the writing and philosophy of Albert Camus. Accordingly, the lyrics are rooted in existentialism and absurdism.

CHARLIE BENANTE Says He Wasn't Involved In Decision To Use PANTERA Name For 'Celebration' TourCharlie Benante says that PANTERA fans who have attended the band's recent shows have embraced the opportunity to see the songs performed live more than 20 years since the classic PANTERA lineup was last together.
Joining the ANTHRAX drummer in PANTERA's reformed lineup are surviving members Rex Brown (bass) and Philip Anselmo (vocals),along with guitarist Zakk Wylde (OZZY OSBOURNE, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY).
According to Billboard, the lineup was given a green light by the estates of the band's founders, drummer Vincent "Vinnie Paul" Abbott and guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott.
It was first reported in July 2022 that Anselmo and Brown would unite with Wylde and Benante for a world tour under the PANTERA banner.
PANTERA recently played nine shows in Mexico, South America and Japan, and will headline a number of major festivals across North America, Europe and Asia, and stage some of their own headline concerts. They will also support METALLICA on a massive North American stadium tour in 2023 and 2024.
Benante opened up about his participation in PANTERA's return during a recent interview with "THAT Rocks!", the new weekly YouTube series hosted by Eddie Trunk, Jim Florentine and Don Jamieson. Speaking about some of the criticism he has received for his involvement with PANTERA, Charlie said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "People had their preconceived notions of what they were gonna think: 'Oh, I don't dig this without Vinnie and Dime.' And of course… What do you think? We don't know that Vinnie and Dime are not with us anymore? But when we start playing the songs and you just see the faces in the crowd, all that shit goes out the window, the negative stuff that has been said.
"Man, that's all I ever wanted to do, is just come and do this and make people hear these songs again," he explained. "And that's what it's all about, really. It's about the music."
Asked who was in charge of making the decision to use the name PANTERA for the new lineup instead of calling it a tribute or naming it something else, Charlie said: "It wasn't me. [Laughs] For us it was about the celebration of the music and Dime and Vinnie; that's what it was about since day one. No one called it a tribute; no one called it a reunion. It can't be a reunion. This is a celebration of the music of PANTERA. Come and enjoy it. And that's it. That's all could do."
Benante also talked about his personal connection to Dimebag and Vinnie, saying: "Yeah. I loved those two guys, man. You never think that certain things would ever, ever happen, and then when it does, you sit back and think, like, 'How did this happen so fast? How did this time just slip by?' And Darrell's been gone for a while now. But it doesn't change how we all miss him and feel him.
"Every show that we play… [Longtime PANTERA engineer, bass tech and friend] Sterling [Winfield], who used to work for PANTERA — still does, in a sense. The first show, he came to Mexico City and he brought me one of Darrell's wristbands and a pair of Vinnie's gloves that they used. And every show that I've played so far, I wear the wristband and Vinnie's glove is in my pocket because I feel like they're with me. And I do that for every show, and I'll continue to do that for every other show we play. It just has significance."
Benante previously discussed his involvement in PANTERA's comeback during a recent interview with Consequence. Addressing the negative comments he has received for his participation, Charlie said: "I don't go [online] looking for [people's negative comments about it]. There's people that send me, 'Hey, did you see this?' And I'm, like, 'Why did you send me this? Why ruin my day?'
"I think the people who do these things, these comments, I don't even think they realize how much of an effect that they could have on people," he continued. "And whether or not you hate the situation, or whatever it is, why can't you find some sort of restraint? Why do you need to say this thought that you have? Can't you just hold it in and maybe be, like, 'I'll keep my thoughts to myself.' No, they've gotta tell you. I've never seen more of it in my life than I [did] in these past couple of months about just people judging."
Regarding his personal approach to playing the parts originally written and recorded by Vinnie Paul, Charlie said: "I just spent a lot of time on Vinnie's parts and more importantly the tone that Vinnie had because I wanted it to sound like PANTERA. That was my thing. And my drum configuration is different from the ANTHRAX one because I wanted to challenge myself to play those parts like he played them in that configuration, which, to me, was more important than anything. But yet people still have to find some problem in that."
According to Benante, the initial rehearsals for the PANTERA comeback tour were "an emotional thing" for Philip and Rex "too, because they hadn't played as a group, those two hadn't played together in a long time, playing PANTERA songs. Yeah, they played [together] in DOWN, but this was an emotional thing for them," Charlie said. "And I remember after the week of rehearsals that we did, saying goodbye was weird, because it was an emotional thing; we really kind of bonded, the three of us. Zakk wasn't there at the time. But for me, I knew I had done something right."
Brown was forced to leave PANTERA's Latin American tour after testing positive for COVID-19. Filling in for him at some of the shows was CATTLE DECAPITATION bassist Derek Engemann, who also plays with Anselmo in both PHILIP H. ANSELMO & THE ILLEGALS and SCOUR.
Up until his passing, Vinnie remained on non-speaking terms with Anselmo, whom the drummer indirectly blamed for Dimebag's death.
Vinnie Paul and Dimebag co-founded PANTERA. When PANTERA broke up in 2003, they formed DAMAGEPLAN. On December 8, 2004, while performing with DAMAGEPLAN at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, Ohio, Dimebag was shot and killed onstage by a troubled schizophrenic who believed that the members of PANTERA were stealing his thoughts.
Vinnie passed away on June 22, 2018 at his other home in Las Vegas at the age of 54. He died of dilated cardiomyopathy, an enlarged heart, as well as severe coronary artery disease. His death was the result of chronic weakening of the heart muscle — basically meaning his heart couldn't pump blood as well as a healthy heart.

Exclusive: WHYTHRE Premieres “Impregnate My Hate” Music VideoMembers of Seattle-based Whythre are like every other world citizen, observers of our conditions, and some of those observations are expressed on their forthcoming album and its title track “Impregnate My Hate”, which the band is unveiling today as its third single, exclusively through BraveWords, before the full-length releases on May 26.
Vocalist/guitarist Adam Chambers explains the track further:
“Lyrically, this song is about modern times! Most folks are jumping down each other’s throats, willing vessels to the online projection of what modern entertainment and communication should be. My friends showed me an old sci-fi series called V that deals with subtle mind control and mass hypnosis… while I watched the series after writing the lyrics, I was like ‘yeah! This is it! This is what I’ve been trying to say.’"
Guitarist Shon Petrey adds.
"This is our most thrashy song…it’s not really the most melodic tune at all. When writing the song an old school vibe kinda just appeared here and we ran with it."
Watch the official animated video:
Whythre has two other albums out, and fans who have heard the previous efforts will be able to pick up subtle changes such as Chambers taking over on vocals and writing most of the instruments and vocals lines simultaneously with Shon Petrey. They find that it really gives a more cohesive feel to the songs. Rather than tacking on vocals at the end, there’s now a fleshed-out conversation between them and each instrument as the song is written. It’s way more natural, and the next step in the Whythre writing dynamic is to explore this a bit more with drummer Steve and bassist Eric.
The single, along with the album, is recommended for fans of Sinergy, Alice Cooper, and Children of Bodom.
Impregnate My Hate is being released on May 26, 2023 via High Point Records and is available for preorder here.

WYTCH HAZEL Debut "Strong Heart" Music VideoAscending British hard rock sect, Wytch Hazel, will release its new album, IV: Sacrament, on June 2 via Bad Omen Records. Recorded with longtime producer Ed Turner (Purson) and tracked in a converted Baptist chapel in rural Wales, the record is a resounding achievement and glittering treasure chest that builds on the momentum of the band's celebrated 2020 album III: Pentecost.
Each Wytch Hazel album has embodied that old-fashioned notion of unstoppable progress culminating in this, their fourth outing; the point where youthful years of febrile creativity and progressive momentum culminate in a masterwork for the ages, setting the seal on an early signature sound while opening it up to future possibilities.
Pre-order on Bandcamp, and watch the video for the song, "Strong Heart", below.
Led by vocalist / multi-instrumentalist Colin Hendra, Wytch Hazel is a singular source of hard rock/heavy metal dominion, offering a never ending quantum of mediaeval melodic structures and to uplifting hymns, IV: Sacrament is overflowing with indelible ear-worms the likes of which must be heard to be believed. And believe, you shall.
"I've blown my own mind a bit," Colin states, "and even after all this painstaking work, I still feel like I've only scratched the surface of what Wytch Hazel could be doing musically. I wish I could have a month to work on one song, and go on a tangent a bit. I will in the future, it's going in the right direction. It's some of the most honest songwriting I've ever done, and the lyrics come from a darker place, I think. I'm getting older, that comes through in some lyrics: 'see my body breaking', 'I'm digging deeper', 'time's running out…' - I struggle to see the positive a lot of the time, so the songs end up being negative, the subject matter coming from constant striving."
It's these deeply personal lyrics, coming from a place of faith and conviction, which make Wytch Hazel stand out further from the modern herd; although we've been bombarded with the cartoon diabolism of the 'occult rock' revival for the best part of two decades, no other band has dared to offer the other side of the story. Yet lest any heathen headbanger start to fear any kind of evangelical conversion agenda, Hendra expands on his position: "Music is created for all, it's a common grace for everyone," he affirms, "which is why the music that shows the glory of God the most, in my opinion, is not music created by Christians. It's Black Sabbath, you know!"
Tracklisting:
“The Fire’s Control”
“Angel Of Light”
“Time And Doubt”
“Strong Heart”
“Deliver Us”
“A Thousand Years”
“Gold Light”
“Endless Battle”
“Future Is Gold”
“Digging Deeper”

URNE's A Feast On Sorrow Album To Arrive In August; "Becoming The Ocean" Music Video ReleasedLondon metal trio, Urne, have today announced details of their deeply personal second studio album, A Feast On Sorrow. Due for release on August 11 via Candlelight Records, A Feast On Sorrow is a stark rumination on the grim inevitabilities of disease, dementia and deterioration in old age, felt intimately by Urne frontman, Joe Nally.
Joe Duplantier, frontman of modern metal goliaths, Gojira, unexpectedly reached out to the band directly - having been a fan of the band’s debut album, Serpent & Spirit - offering Urne the opportunity to record with him at his Silver Cord Studio in Brooklyn, New York.
Joe Nally, Urne frontman states: “We had many ups and downs throughout this process, but the end result is something the three of us are extremely proud of. Having the honour to travel to New York to work alongside Joe Duplantier and Johann Meyer on this record is something we didn’t think would be possible and, on top of that, to have Ted Jensen master this record, has been an experience we once dreamed of. This whole album is extremely personal for me. It’s made me grow as a person and has also helped me understand the grieving process better than before. This isn’t a joyful or uplifting record, it’s very raw and real, and when the opportunity to work with Joe came to be, we all knew he was the perfect person to capture the message of this record.”
Additionally, Urne have released the first track taken from A Feast On Sorrow, titled "Becoming The Ocean". The track is arguably the most immediate entry into the maelstrom, using Nally’s life watching the waves batter England’s sweeping south coast as a metaphor for the pressure a family feels drowning in the suffering of one of their own. Watch the video below.
Offering more detail on the song's meaning, Nally says; “'Becoming The Ocean’ has ties to a move within my life that was supposed to bring my family joy and a new life. Sadly, it hasn’t been as smooth as we all hoped. I walk by the ocean every day and something with such beauty and grace, also holds such power and an ability to crush and destroy. The video was shot in Pembrokeshire, Wales. This beach is known for a rock formation called Church Rock which works perfectly with the lyrical content of this song.”
Tracklisting:
"The Flood Came Rushing In"
"To Die Twice"
"A Stumble Of Words"
"The Burden"
"Becoming The Ocean"
"A Feast On Sorrow"
"Peace"
"The Long Goodbye/Where Do We Go When We Die?"
"Becoming The Ocean" video:
Urne will debut new music at Incineration festival, Camden, London, on May 13th, where they will open the stage at Electric Ballroom. They will also make a main stage appearance at this years’ Bloodstock festival, taking place at its usual stomping ground of Catton Hall, Derbyshire, August 10- 13.
Meanwhile, fans across Europe will be able to witness Urne at one of several shows in support of Gojira, in addition to some summer festivals.

Watch Pro-Shot Video Of METALLICA Performing '72 Seasons' At 'M72' Kickoff ConcertTwo weeks ago, METALLICA kicked off its "M72" world tour 2023-2024 with two spectacular performances at Johan Cruijff Arena in Amsterdam, Netherlands with support from ARCHITECTS and MAMMOTH WVH on night one and Floor Jansen and ICE NINE KILLS on night two. The career-spanning sets featured the live debut of "If Darkness Had A Son" and "You Must Burn!" along with songs off their newest album "72 Seasons", including "Screaming Suicide", "Sleepwalk My Life Away" and the title track "72 Seasons". In total, METALLICA performed 32 different songs taken from its 11 studio albums.
Professionally filmed video of the "72 Seasons" performance from METALLICA's April 27 concert in Amsterdam can be seen below.
METALLICA is visiting a total of 22 different cities around the world and playing two nights in each city.
The trek sees the band playing two nights in every city it visits — with each "No Repeat Weekend" featuring two completely different setlists and support lineups. The "M72" tour features a bold new in-the-round stage design that relocates the famed METALLICA Snake Pit to center stage, as well as the "I Disappear" full-tour pass and the debut of discounted tickets for fans under 16 years of age.
Opening acts include FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH, ICE NINE KILLS, MAMMOTH WVH, PANTERA, ARCHITECTS, GRETA VAN FLEET and VOLBEAT.
METALLICA promises fans who purchase a two-day ticket that they won't see the same song twice for a total of over 30 songs spanning the band's 40-plus-year career.
Each weekend offers a variety of "Enhanced Experiences", ranging from access to a meet-and-greet, production and stage tour, food and beverage in the "Black Box" lounge to early entry into the venue and the Snake Pit. The very popular "Black Laminate" is back, now known as the "I Disappear Ticket", and is the ultimate pass for the fan who wants to run away with METALLICA for multiple weekends.
A single "I Disappear" ticket purchase gives you access to as many of METALLICA's 46 headlining tour dates across Europe and North America in 2023 and 2024 as you choose. You decide how many shows you'd like to attend around the world, and for how long, and METALLICA will make it as easy as possible.
According to Billboard, "72 Seasons" sold 146,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in its first week of release to land at position No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart. It marks the band's 12th Top 10-charting album, of which eight have reached the top two.
"72 Seasons" had the biggest week for any rock or hard rock album since TOOL's "Fear Inoculum" arrived in September 2019 with 270,000 equivalent album units.
"72 Seasons" was released on April 14 via METALLICA's own Blackened Recordings. Produced by Greg Fidelman with guitarist/vocalist James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich, it is METALLICA's first full-length collection of new material since "Hardwired…To Self-Destruct".
Speaking of the album-making process, Ulrich explained: "It's one of the only things that hasn't changed in 40 years. There'll be a whole slew of riffs and jams and sound checks, then it falls into my lap to go through them and identify, 'That one's great, that one's good, maybe there's a song over here.'"
Regarding the fact that guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo were given writing credits on more than half of "72 Seasons", Hetfield told the Associated Press: "All four guys were on the floor when we were writing, which is new for us. Usually it's just Lars and I sitting out there hashing it out. It felt really great to have the energy of all four. There's a lot more democracy on this album. Lars and I gave up the steering wheel a little more than usual."
Hammett agreed, saying: "It was much more collaborative. The attitude was just more open. There is less limitations on everyone's creativity and I think that shows."
In the seven years since the arrival of "Hardwired… To Self-Destruct", METALLICA has reissued some of its classic albums, released a second live album with the San Francisco Symphony, commissioned a covers album featuring the likes of GHOST, VOLBEAT, WEEZER, Corey Taylor and THE HU, and landed on the Billboard songs chart with "Master Of Puppets" after a prominent placement in the hit Netflix show "Stranger Things".

MÖTLEY CRÜE's VINCE NEIL: JOHN 5 'Was Ready To Play The Set Before We Even Hired Him'While promoting his upcoming appearance as a guest judge on the music competition series "Banded: The Musician Competition", MÖTLEY CRÜE singer Vince Neil spoke to AXS TV about the band's latest addition, former ROB ZOMBIE guitarist John 5. John 5 joined MÖTLEY CRÜE last fall as the replacement for the band's co-founding guitarist Mick Mars, who announced his retirement from touring with MÖTLEY CRÜE last October as a result of worsening health issues.
"We have the honeymoon situation right now," Vince said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET). "We really love John. He was ready to play the set before we even hired him; he knows all the MÖTLEY CRÜE songs. He knew everything down to the letter. So we didn't have to do a lot of rehearsing for the stadium tour, because he was right there."
Last month, MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx told Wyatt of U.K.'s Planet Rock about MÖTLEY CRÜE's decision to hire John 5: "I've been friends with John forever and I would make jokes, 'As long as you're a 5, I feel good being a Sixx.' Y'know, stupid best buddy jokes.
He continued: "My wife just said that when Mick told us he was leaving the band and I told her I'd talked to Tommy [Lee, MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer] and Vince, and everybody feels that John would be a great fit, and I hadn't called John yet because you had to be sure we were doing everything correctly.
Or we could look at each other and go 'are we done yet?!' We're really peaking and we understand [Mick's] health issues.

METALLICA's LARS ULRICH: 'We Still Don't Really Feel Like We Belong, No Matter How Successful We Are'During a new appearance on the "Conan O'Brien Needs A Friend" podcast, METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich spoke about how he and his bandmates brought the gnarly underground sounds of thrash metal into the mainstream in the late 1980s. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "At that time, the music business was very formulaic, and so it was, 'This is how you're supposed to do it.' You get signed to a record company. You get a chunk of money. Then you go make a record on their terms, by their formula and their directive, and then they promote you how they wanna promote you, and blah blah blah blah blah. And of course, we weren't interested in that, we weren't buying in to that, we didn't think that any of that would be a possibility, so we just started doing our own thing, making some tapes, sending them to people in Europe. And very slowly we started realizing that there were way more like-minded people, music fans like ourselves, who didn't want their music coming out of that mainstream formula that the record company sort of provided."
He continued: "I've said it before — it's the same thing as if you go into a restaurant and they give you a menu and they say, 'What would you like?' But it's still limited to what's on the menu. And so we realized that a lot of music fans wanted something that wasn't on the menu at the time, [who] wanted their rock way edgier and with a different aesthetic and language and culture attached to it. And slowly, as we started making records and playing all over Europe and playing all over America, that number grew to a point where we all sort of became the mainstream. And talk about mindfucks — that was this crazy mindfuck that nobody could predict was gonna happen. It wasn't that all the bands that were edgy moved towards the mainstream; it was that the mainstream moved out towards where all the edgy bands were. And 10 or 20 years later, all this crazy stuff that everybody was doing became the mainstream. And I still sort of struggle a little bit with that. In all seriousness, I still have a hard time… I'm permanently… always feel like we're outsiders, because that's how we grew up. So when all these great things are happening, it all still feels like either momentary or somebody is gonna [say], 'Okay, now make room for the real guys that are gonna come in and do this properly' or whatever. And so there's a little bit of, like, 'Holy shit.' We still don't really feel like we belong, no matter how successful we are."
METALLICA's latest LP, "72 Seasons", sold 146,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in its first week of release to land at position No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart. It marks the band's 12th Top 10-charting album, of which eight have reached the top two.
"72 Seasons" has had the biggest week for any rock or hard rock album since TOOL's "Fear Inoculum" arrived in September 2019 with 270,000 equivalent album units.

METALLICA's "M72" world tour will feature two-night stops in nearly two dozen cities. Presented worldwide by Liquid Death and Blackened American Whiskey (in North America only) and promoted by Live Nation, the 46-show trek will launch in Amsterdam on April 27 and will include shows all over Europe and North America through 2024. Each "No Repeat Weekend" on "M72" will feature two completely different setlists and support lineups. 24
