BUCKCHERRY's JOSH TODD: 'I Can't Stand Getting Tattooed'

BUCKCHERRY's JOSH TODD: 'I Can't Stand Getting Tattooed'

In a new interview with Alicia Atout, BUCKCHERRY singer Josh Todd was asked about his first-ever tattoo, which he got years ago on his left forearm. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "It was a really bad decision. It's here [points to above his left wrist] but I got it covered up. I was really drunk and I was in a tattoo parlor and I picked it off the wall. It was Betty Boop. It was just a stupid, fun tattoo. I was with my friends and got it, and it was a bad choice. I woke up in the morning and I was, like, 'Fuck, man.' And I got it covered up when I got serious about tattooing. And that was that. But I think everybody who's heavily tattooed has one of those stories, for sure."

Todd also spoke about the fact that his body is a flesh canvas for tattoo art, which is continuously being added. Asked if there is any other tattoo he would like to get done still, Josh said: "I started working on my legs. I always to have a body suit, so I started working on my legs."

He continued: "It hurts a lot more now. It didn't hurt as much when I was younger. But now I just can't stand getting tattooed. I never really liked getting tattooed. I always liked the finished product. I can really stand maybe two hours and then I'm done. I can't do it more than that. I'm a baby now."

A little over a decade ago, Todd told Big Tattoo Planet that he is careful not to get tattoos that will become blurry or faded after a certain period of time.

"I've seen a lot of bad tattoos and I think what I've learned over the years about getting tattooed is to get stuff that's really bold and beautiful because it stands the test of time," he said. "I'm really not a big fan of heavily detailed work because I just feel like it becomes a mess after a while, you know? It just happens with age and your skin.

"I really think that some people who get too involved in their artwork and don't let the tattoo artist kind of take their idea and make it a tattoo, that's when you wind up getting a really bad tattoo," he explained. "People have this idea of, like, oh, they want this beautiful piece on them, but they don't look at it in terms of, well, it's gonna be on your skin, it's not gonna be on a piece of paper. You have to understand how to make a transition to make it look like a tattoo, something that you're gonna be really glad to look at after 20 years."

BUCKCHERRY is continuing to tour in support of its latest album, "Hellbound", which came out in June 2021 via Round Hill Records. The follow-up to 2019's "Warpaint" was recorded in the fall of 2020 in Nashville, Tennessee with producer and songwriter-for-hire Marti Frederiksen, who has previously collaborated with AEROSMITH, DEF LEPPARD, Jonny Lang and Sheryl Crow, among many others.

In the summer of 2020, BUCKCHERRY recruited JETBOY's Billy Rowe as its new guitarist. He joined the group as the replacement for Kevin Roentgen, who left BUCKCHERRY in July of that year.

In 2019, BUCKCHERRY enlisted Francis Ruiz as its new drummer. He joined the group as the replacement for Sean Winchester, who exited BUCKCHERRY after laying down the drum tracks on "Warpaint".

Life Of Late METALLICA Bassist CLIFF BURTON To Be Celebrated With Virtual Event On What Would Have Been His 60th Birthday

Life Of Late METALLICA Bassist CLIFF BURTON To Be Celebrated With Virtual Event On What Would Have Been His 60th Birthday

The life of late METALLICA bassist Cliff Burton will be celebrated with "Cliff Burton Day" on what would have been his 60th birthday, February 10, at YouTube.com/GOMEZGRIP. A special live stream is scheduled for that day at 7 p.m. PST. The event will be emceed by Nicholas Gomez, with guests including Big Mick, Metal Joe, Gary Holt (EXODUS, SLAYER), Dan Riley, Brian Lew, Dean Delray, Brian Slagel, Charlie Benante (ANTHRAX), Mike Bordin (FAITH NO MORE), Canada Dave and Connie Burton.

Cliff was asked to join METALLICA in 1982 after the band saw him perform with his group at the time, TRAUMA.

The bassist was not willing to move to Los Angeles, where METALLICA was based, so they decided to move to the San Francisco area so that he would join.

Burton played on METALLICA's first three studio albums — "Kill 'Em All", "Ride The Lightning" and "Master Of Puppets" — and co-wrote classic songs like "Ride The Lightning", "For Whom The Bell Tolls", "Fade To Black", "Creeping Death" and "Master Of Puppets".

His life was tragically cut short at the age of 24 in a tour bus crash on September 27, 1986 in Sweden.

Burton's initial replacement in the group was Jason Newsted, who stayed in the lineup until 2001. Robert Trujillo joined in 2003 and remains in the band to this day.

February 10, 2018 was proclaimed "Cliff Burton Day" by Alameda County supervisors. The late METALLICA bassist would have turned 56 years old on that date had he lived.

Back in 2016, METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich spoke to Seattle's KISW 99.9 radio station about Burton's tragic loss when METALLICA's tour bus skidded on ice while the group was on tour in Scandinavia and Cliff was thrown out the window and crushed. Lars said: "We were so shocked and stunned that we didn't know what hit us. And, like most, I guess, kids in their early 20s who get ambushed with that type of thing, we jumped into a bottle of, in this case, vodka, for me, and stayed in there for quite some time. We weren't mature enough or seasoned in life enough to know how to deal with this other than just to sort of, basically, almost hide behind the alcohol and compartmentalized it. So the next few months were very difficult, and it was crazy, but we just put the blinders on and started auditioning bass players. And we knew in our hearts that Cliff would be the first one to kick us in the ass and tell us to keep going, if he could see us mope. And so there was no moping; we just kept going the best we knew how to."

METALLICA frontman James Hetfield was asked in an interview with TeamRock what he thinks Burton might have thought about the drastic changes in its look and sound that METALLICA made through the 1990s and early 2000s with albums like "Load", "Reload" and "St. Anger". Hetfield replied: "Well, I certainly would have thought there would have been some resistance, for sure. I think the 'Black Album' was a great album and I appreciate the fact that we did have the balls to do that… I would certainly think that the 'Load' and 'Reload' [era], I would have had an ally that was very against it all — the reinvention or the U2 version of METALLICA."

Asked if Hetfield was personally comfortable with the more "alternative" image and music METALLICA made on those albums, the singer/guitarist replied: "No, no, not at all. There’s some great, great songs on there but my opinion is that all of the imagery and stuff like that was not necessary. And the amount of songs that were written was… it diluted the potency of the poison of METALLICA. And I think Cliff would have agreed with that."

Burton's huge talent and achievements were chronicled in book form with the 2009 global publication of "To Live Is To Die: The Life And Death Of Metallica's Cliff Burton", written by U.K.-based author Joel McIver and published by Jawbone Press. The foreword was provided by METALLICA guitarist Kirk Hammett.

STONE SOUR Is Still 'On The Back Burner', Says COREY TAYLOR

STONE SOUR Is Still 'On The Back Burner', Says COREY TAYLOR

Corey Taylor says that STONE SOUR is still "on the back burner" while he focuses all of his attention on SLIPKNOT and his solo career.

A year and a half after announcing in an interview that STONE SOUR had "run its course," the SLIPKNOT and STONE SOUR frontman elaborated on the latter band's current status during a February 2 appearance on SiriusXM's "Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk". He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "It's on the back burner. It's just one of those things where my mind and my heart are in a different direction. And that's cool.

"I wish everybody in STONE SOUR all the best," he continued. "I still talk to almost all of 'em. But sometimes you've just gotta do what's best for your heart, and that's what I'm doing. So STONE SOUR's on the back burner. But I'm also doing a ton of music. And like I've shown in [my] solo show, if you wanna hear that stuff, that's a great place to hear it 'cause I do a ton of STONE SOUR, I do a ton of SLIPKNOT, do a ton of covers, do a ton of originals for the solo stuff. It's a great show."

STONE SOUR has been off the road and out of sight since completing the touring cycle for its last studio album, 2017's "Hydrograd". Taylor has been working with SLIPKNOT since then, as well as making his debut solo album, "CMFT". A STONE SOUR live album, "Hello, You Bastards: Live In Reno", came out in December 2019.

In August 2020, Taylor said that he was open to doing more recording and touring with STONE SOUR in the future. But he admitted that there had "been some contention here and there" between the members of the band in the past and added that it was "time" for him to "step away" and pursue his solo project for a while.

In June 2020, Corey told SiriusXM's "Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk" about STONE SOUR: "If someday we wanna get back together and do some stuff, it'll be bigger than it was. But for right now, we're all kind of focused on kind of doing our own thing. But you never say never in this business."

Last June, STONE SOUR guitarist Josh Rand told MACHINE HEAD frontman Robb Flynn's "No Fuckin' Regrets With Robb Flynn" podcast about when fans can expect to see the follow-up to "Hydrograd": "There's no timetable for a return, 'cause, honestly, between Corey doing his solo thing, now me working on THE L.I.F.E. PROJECT stuff, Roy [Mayorga, drums] working on MINISTRY… So, there's just no timetable.

"I made a comment [in 2020], and it kind of backfired, because of how I said [STONE SOUR was on an] indefinite hiatus, which, if you know the definition, actually just means it's a long period of time with no timetable of return. I don't know if everybody thought I said 'infinite' instead of 'indefinite.' [Laughs] All of a sudden, the band was, like, over. It was, like, 'Oh my God! It's over.' All I was saying was there's no timetable. It's no different than what we've done in the past. It's just gonna be a longer break."

According to Rand, he and his STONE SOUR bandmates "needed to branch out", "try different shit" and "work with different people" before regrouping to work on new STONE SOUR music. "And then whenever that time is that we get back together, it'll actually be what is best for STONE SOUR," he explained. "There's no doubt about it in my mind. Just having these different experiences for all of us instead of just running that same cycle. I think more so with Corey and myself — like I said, he got to do a solo record where he's doing a different style of music than anybody would have thought of or that wouldn't have fit in STONE SOUR or SLIPKNOT. For myself, working with somebody that's not Corey and Roy. So there's a growth that will be there that we'll ultimately get which will benefit the band. I know some people might not be stoked that it's gonna be who knows when, but it needed to happen, and that's what's best for everybody involved."

Asked how he and the rest of STONE SOUR made the decision to take a longer-than-usual break this time around, Josh said: "I think at the end of the tour cycle, we had a good idea of what was going to happen, where [Corey] wanted to do the solo record. For myself, it's something I kicked around — just having some of the songs that I would musically write that I would never submit into STONE SOUR 'cause I don't feel like it fits at all. So I was kind of on that path to begin with. I just kind of got an extra nudge with him doing his solo record of, 'Hey, this is probably the time to do this.' And then we got hit with the pandemic, which then really locked me into the house. And I was, like, 'What else am I gonna do?' So I just started writing and working on playing piano. I did a bunch of stuff on piano, which some of it will come out, and some of it, it's, like, 'No.' I'll [it] for myself. And that's basically what we did. So we had a good idea, I think, that we were gonna take a longer break at the end of '19. I think towards the end, all of us were just bur

BRUCE DICKINSON: 'Half Of Us Are Gonna Get Cancer, And It's Not A Death Sentence Anymore'

BRUCE DICKINSON: 'Half Of Us Are Gonna Get Cancer, And It's Not A Death Sentence Anymore'

IRON MAIDEN singer Bruce Dickinson, who was diagnosed with throat cancer back in late 2014, was asked during the question-and-answer portion of his January 18 spoken-word show in Orlando, Florida what advice he would give to anyone getting ready to start their own battle against cancer. He responded (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "Here's the way I dealt with it… And people will deal with it in different ways. I embraced the treatment. So I went along to see the big radiation machine and I said, 'Okay, how does this work then? What does it do? And how much are you giving me and where? And how are you making a difference between this one and this one and this one? And you can do what with it? Wow, that's really cool. That's amazing. It's insane, the technology.'"

He continued: "I would say embrace the treatment and always remember the [likelihood]… I don't know what your cancer is. I don't know the individual circumstances. I'm not a doctor, so I'm not gonna make any predictions. I can't do anything like that, nor would I, 'cause it's very private. But I have to say that the therapies that people are coming up with now are so on the edge and successful that you really do stand a very good chance. 'Cause half of us are gonna get cancer, and it's not a death sentence anymore, and you can deal with it. And the things they have to do to your body to get rid of it are getting better and better and better as we go down the line. They did some nasty things to my body. I'm lucky I'm completely clear of it and everything.

"I only really talk about it when I come to do these shows 'cause people want to know," Bruce added. "I quite enjoy talking about it because you kind of demystify it a little bit for people. It's a scary thing."

Approximately 39.2 percent of men and women will be diagnosed with cancer of any site at some point during their lifetime, based on 2016–2018 data.

According to Healthline, the cancer death rate in the United States dropped by about a third (32 percent) from its peak in 1991 to 2019 — from about 215 deaths for every 100,000 people to about 146. Much of the reduction is due to the progress made against lung cancer, which remains the leading cause of cancer death in the country.

Dickinson, who had a golf gall-size tumor on his tongue and another in the lymph node on the right side of his neck, got the all-clear in May 2015 after radiation and nine weeks of chemotherapy.

Bruce previously told iNews that he wanted to cover his cancer battle in his 2017 autobiography, "What Does This Button Do?", to raise awareness of the condition, which affects people who often have no or minimal history of tobacco or alcohol abuse. The individuals with HPV-related oropharyngeal cancer who undergo treatment have a disease-free survival rate of 85 to 90 percent over five years.

During an appearance on the Swedish TV show "Malou Efter Tio", Dickinson spoke about how his singing voice has changed following his cancer diagnosis seven years ago.

"[It's] a little bit different," he said. "Two things are slightly different. One is my saliva, which obviously lubricates your throat a little bit, is a bit less than it used to be. Although, back ten years ago, if I had the same cancer, I wouldn't be making any saliva. But now, I'm probably 70 percent, which is great. Thanks very much, everybody upstairs. [Laughs] And the other things is that I think that the shape of possibly the back of my tongue, which forms vowel sounds and things like that, might have changed shape slightly, because, obviously, it had a big lump in it, and the lump's gone. So maybe the surface has changed shape. So I notice a few differences. Funnily enough, the top end of my voice is maybe even a little bit better than it was before. [Laughs]"

Dickinson said that he was given "the all-clear" by his specialists following an MRI scan after a course of chemotherapy and radiology.

"I was amazed," he said. "My cancer was a 3.5-centimeter tumor in my throat and a 2.5-centimeter one in my lymph node, and that was the one that I could feel — that was the secondary one. But I did 33 sessions of radiation and nine weeks of chemo at the same time, which is fairly standard therapy for it. And it was gone. And I said to my oncologist: 'What do you mean it's gone? Where has it gone?' And he said, 'Well, your body just gets rid of it.' A body is an amazing thing."

MORGAN LANDER On KITTIE's Future Plans: 'You'll Be Seeing Us Around A Little More'

MORGAN LANDER On KITTIE's Future Plans: 'You'll Be Seeing Us Around A Little More'

KITTIE vocalist/guitarist Morgan Lander has hinted more activity for the band following the previously announced reunion shows at Las Vegas's When We Were Young festival. Joining Morgan and her sister, drummer Mercedes Lander, at those shows in the fall will be guitarist Tara McLeod and bassist Ivana "Ivy" Vujic.

Asked in a new interview with the "Talk Toomey" podcast what led to Vujic returning to KITTIE for the upcoming dates, Lander said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "Ivy played on two of our albums, the last two albums that we did. She left the band right before the very last big tour that we ended up doing; she did the Soundwave Festival [in Australia] with us in 2012, and those were the last shows that we did with her. And she just kind of settled into her life, started a family, got married, and so that's sort of been what she's been up to. But Ivy's a metal girl at heart and she's always been super, super easygoing about stuff. I just sent her a message and I was, like, 'Hey, can we talk?' And we had a really, really great phone call and I just sort of explained the situation, explained what was going on. I asked her if she'd be into doing it, and she was, like, 'Yeah. Sounds great.' … It's very much one of those things where you don't talk that often anymore, you don't see each other that often, but then, when you all get together again, that chemistry and that vibe is always there."

Morgan continued: "I feel like that lineup of KITTIE in particular was always very super pro, super chill — no stress, no drama. Just, like, 'You know what? We're gonna go out there and we're gonna sound amazing.'

"She's an incredible bass player. I don't think that Ivy gets enough credit. She is absolutely incredible. So it's gonna be great."

As for whether KITTIE may have some other things in the works beyond When We Were Young, Morgan said: "We've got the festival — lots to look forward to with that. There may be some other things maybe coming down the pike — one or two things — but you have to watch [the KITTIE social media]. We might have one or two cool things coming down the pike, but for now those are the only dates that we have. And we're super looking forward to them. And I think this is just the beginning of… You'll be seeing us around a little more."

Vujic joined KITTIE in 2008 and appeared on the band's fifth studio CD, 2009's "In The Black". She also wrote and recorded bass for KITTIE's sixth album, 2011's "I've Failed You".

When We Were Young will be held on the Las Vegas Festival Grounds on the Strip on October 22, October 23 and October 29.

Officials said the "emo" festival will feature the same lineup on all three dates, with the exception of Alex G replacing Wolf Alice on October 29, and La Dispute will not perform on October 29.

The lineup also includes MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE, PARAMORE, AFI, THE USED, BRING ME THE HORIZON, TAKING BACK SUNDAY, DASHBOARD CONFESSIONAL, ALKALINE TRIO, MANCHESTER ORCHESTRA, THE ALL-AMERICAN REJECTS, AVRIL LAVIGNE, WOLF ALICE, STORY OF THE YEAR, JIMMY EAT WORLD and many others.

When the lineup for When We Were Young was first revealed, KITTIE said: "Thanks for your patience with our silence friends. The truth is we've been in full on crisis mode the past week and weren't sure if we’d actually be able to make this happen but it's true and we'll be there to melt your face off and we hope you got your tickets."

After the third When We Were Young date was announced, KITTIE wrote: "Third show added! Super stoked that @whenwewereyoungfest has decided to add yet another date! October 29th 2022. We'll see you there…tickets on sale January 31st".

KITTIE has not performed since its reunion show at London Music Hall in the band's native London, Ontario in 2017, celebrating the group's documentary "Kittie: Origins/Evolutions".

Last month, the original lineup of KITTIE — Morgan, Mercedes, Fallon Bowman (guitar) and Tanya Candler (bass) — reunited for an online chat to celebrate the 22nd anniversary of its gold-certified 2000 debut album, "Spit".

Candler left KITTIE after the release of "Spit" in order to finish high school and was replaced by Talena Atfield.

Bowman exited KITTIE in 2001 and started her own industrial/electronic project, AMPHIBIOUS ASSAULT.

After KITTIE completed the touring cycle for 2011's "I've Failed You" album, the band entered a long period of inactivity during which Morgan focused on a marketing job for a chain of fitness clubs while Mercedes worked in real estate and more recently at a software company. The group also began work on a career-spanning documentary, "Origins/Evolutions", which finally saw the light of day in 2018 via Lightyear Entertainment in North America.

"I've Failed You" sold 3,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 178 on The Billboard 200 chart.

BILLYBIO Unveils “Turn The Wounds” Video

BILLYBIO Unveils “Turn The Wounds” Video

On the new video single, "Turn The Wounds", hardcore guitar player and frontman Billy Graziadei (Biohazard, Powerflo) gets deeply personal with lyrics and imagery. Graziadei directed, produced and edited the video incorporating CGI footage designed by Philipp Hartmann.

“'Turn The Wounds' is about battles, ranging from personal, internal struggles to societal warfare," says Graziadei. "It's about the constant fighting between left and right, rich and poor, vaxxed and unvaxxed, science and religion, faith and atheism. There’s so much social manipulation in a constantly evolving information highway that is making a massive impact on our society.” This sentiment is underpinned by lyrics including the opening salvo: "I gotta turn these wounds into wisdom // don't let your actions be guided by fear."

"Turn The Wounds" appears on BillyBio's new album, Leaders And Liars, which is set for worldwide release on March 25 via AFM Records.

BillyBio's style of hardcore is firmly entrenched in the classic sound of New York bands like Agnostic Front, and Cro-Mags, but his new album, Leaders And Liars, forges a new path. Punk, hardcore and classic metal (Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden), influences come together on these 15 songs giving listeners untrodden avenues to explore. SUPERSUCKERS And THE STREETWALKIN' CHEETAHS Frontmen Team With NASHVILLE PUSSY And THE KNACK For New "My Sharona" Single / Video

SUPERSUCKERS And THE STREETWALKIN' CHEETAHS Frontmen Team With NASHVILLE PUSSY And THE KNACK For New "My Sharona" Single / Video

Supersuckers frontman Eddie Spaghetti has long maintained that The Knack’s ‘80s New Wave anthem, “My Sharona”, is the greatest song ever written. His partner in crime and grime, The Streetwalkin’ Cheetahs main man Frank Meyer, agrees and has always cited it as the reason he started listening to rock ‘n’ roll. So, it was no surprise when the two rock gunslingers decided to cover the smash hit on their most recent collaboration album Motherfuckin’ Rock ‘n’ Roll as, appropriately enough, Eddie Spaghetti & Frank Meyer, available on Kitten Robot Records in all formats.

But the big surprise came when they scored the double-coup of getting The Knack's original lead guitarist Berton Averre to reprise his classic lead guitar solo on the studio version of the song, and then nabbing Nashville Pussy guitarist Ruyter Suys to recreate it in the music video.

“I have a friend that knows Berton, so we reached out. We made the record during the pandemic,” recalls Spaghetti, “so presumably he was free like the rest of the world and agreed to do it.”

“When it came time to make the music video, we thought it would be sweet to have our good friend Ruyter Suys from Nashville Pussy step in and do her thang,” says Meyer, who also directed and edited the duo’s latest video as well as their previous videos for “Jammin’ Me” and “I Think It Sucks (And I Don’t Like It).” “Our bands have all toured together many, many times over the last few decades and we all go way back, yet we have never really all been on stage together.”

“This seemed like a cool way to bring some fun and energy to the video,” agrees Spaghetti. “Ruyter is a high-energy performer and so is Frank, and we got Streetwalkin’ Cheetahs drummer Mike Sessa on the skins, so it was like having this kick-ass one-off supergroup!”

The rockers were so inspired, in fact, that they decided to recreate The Knack’s original 1979 “My Sharona” music video practically shot-by-shot. “The opening and closing shots, plus the stuff around the end of the solo and drum break, are all frame-by-frame recreations of the Knack shots," continues Meyer. "I wanted it to look as close to the original video as possible so my longtime Cinematographer Jason Valdez spent a lot of time on the look, lighting, style, and visual pallet of the clip. And of course, we all wore white dress shirts and skinny black ties!”

“We looked just like The Knack,” Suys chimes in, “…or waiters!”

“I go way back with both these guys and it sounded like a blast,” laughs Suys, “plus I’m a sucker for California tacos and they know all the best spots!” Suys flew into Los Angeles from her home in Atlanta to appear in the video and also to do press for HBO Max’s new John Cena-starring series The Peacemaker, which features Nashville Pussy’s song “C’Mon, C’Mon” in the ad campaign, TV commercials and premier episode. “Turns out director James Gunn is a longtime fan and personally placed the song.”

“My Sharona” is the second single off Eddie Spaghetti & Frank Meyer’s album Motherfuckin' Rock 'N' Roll, out now on Kitten Robot Records.

PATTERN-SEEKING ANIMALS Featuring SPOCK'S BEARD Members To Release Only Passing Through Album In April; "I Can't Stay Here Anymore" Music Video Posted

Pattern-Seeking Animals, the California-based progressive rock band featuring Ted Leonard (lead vocals & guitars), Jimmy Keegan (drums & vocals), Dave Meros (bass) and John Boegehold (keyboards), will release their third album, Only Passing Through, on April 1 via InsideOut Music.

Pre-order the album here, and watch a video for the single, "I Can't Stay Here Anymore", below.

The band checks in on the new album:

“Only Passing Through, our third album picks up where Prehensile Tales left off but soon takes several stylistic detours as it progresses. Everyone involved made this album a lot of fun to make and we're all looking forward to it to finally being heard." - John Boegehold

"This new album draws from a lot of different sources and pushes all of us to bring out our best. We all had to dig pretty deep to express out the right spirit of each song. To call it prog would be highly inadequate. We’re all over the map and yet, there is still a very distinct sound that threads through the whole album. I’m very proud of this record and excited for people to hear it!" - Jimmy Keegan

Tracklisting:

"Everdark Mountain"
"I Can't Stay Here Anymore"
"Time Has A Way"
"Rock Paper Scissors"
"Much Ado"
"Only Passing Through"
"Said The Stranger"
"Here With You With Me"
