Portuguese heavy metal battalion, Ravensire, has entered Studio 13 in Lisbon to begin work on their third full-length album, A Stone Engraved In Red. The album will be engineered once again by Paulo 'Paulão' Vieira and is due next summer via Cruz Del Sur Music.

The follow-up to 2016's The Cycle Never Ends will be the first to feature new members Mário (guitar) and Alex (drums), both of whom took part in live activity that saw Ravensire take their brand of traditional metal into Europe.

According to founding guitarist Nuno, A Stone Engraved In Red will feature all the trademarks of Ravensire's sound, but with some new twists. "We have started exploring a bit more when it comes to developing musical themes inside a song," he says. "We have a couple of longer - even by our standards - songs, with plenty of changes in moods and tempo. The material is quite diverse and, personally, it is always a good sign when you listen to your own stuff and enjoy it!"

"The songwriting remained the same for us," he continues. "Someone will come up with a skeleton for a song more or less finished, and then we work it up as a whole band and everyone adds their part. There is one song, however, that was co-written by me and Mário. He did come up with an initial idea and then I added other parts and we created a structure. But, that was the exception to the norm!"

Nuno confirms song titles such as "Carnage At Karnag", "Gabriel Lies Sleeping" and "The Games Of Titus" and their own tribute to recently-deceased Manilla Road leader Mark Shelton, "After The Battle".

"Mark gave so much to the scene, so we felt it was right to dedicate this song to him. In addition, we have another tribute called 'Dawning In Darkness,' which is dedicated to Hartmuth 'Barbarian Wrath' Schindlerwho had a terrible misfortune in the hospital and has been in a coma for more than a year. We want to pay our deepest respect and friendship to both of them."

Like previous Ravensire efforts, the album artwork for A Stone Engraved In Red will be in black and white, although Nuno admits there may be a surprise within the cover. As such, Nuno says the title of the album has a deeper meaning for the band: "It's a statement that no matter what we do, we want it to be rock solid and stand the test of time, just like the epitaphs of old."

British rockers BRING ME THE HORIZON have released another new song called "Mother Tongue". The track, which was just featured as Zane Lowe's World Record on Apple Music's Beats 1, is taken from the band's upcoming album, "Amo", which will be released on January 25 via Columbia Records. The band spent last summer writing and recording in Los Angeles, with singer Oli Sykes and keyboardist Jordan Fish handling production.

Oli told Zane Lowe about the musical direction of "Amo": "We didn't really know what we wanted, but we just knew we wanted to be different. We wanted to still be BRING ME THE HORIZON, but make people feel the things they felt with us in different ways and try to do it sonically different. And it took a while to find that sound and stuff, 'cause I think, for me, I love the fact that I can sing now and I can write these lyrics that have important messages and they can almost stick in people's heads, so that they're easier to get across. So, for us, we still wanted those huge choruses, but I feel like we had so much experimentation in us that we've been dying to do for maybe the last five years or so."

Regarding "Mother Tongue", Oli said: "The whole album's kind of explores loving and different aspects of that. Toxic relationships and the end of relationships, really. It's also about the positive side of love and obviously when you first fall in love, it's got to be the greatest feeling. It's probably the most gushing, out-there, just straight-up love song we've ever written. This was one of the easier ones to write, because it was positive. It's about when I first met my new wife. She's from Brazil, and she didn't speak so much English. She talked a lot better than my Portuguese, but from the very start, we had a really, really strong connection, and it was just a crazy time. And this song's just talking about those experiences, which they just stick in my head. So, that was really one of the easier ones to write about."

BRING ME THE HORIZON is in Nashville preparing for tomorrow's kickoff of its Live Nation-produced North American headline tour, to be followed by shows in South America, Australia and a plethora of festivals around the world.

Ingested have announced an extensive round of dates in March and April. The Kings, Gods, Deities tour, which will see the Manchester-based band playing a number of headlining shows as well as supporting The Black Dahlia Murder, runs from March 27th to April 14th and will cover a massive portion of the UK and Ireland.

The band commented, "After a short break from touring The Level Above Human in 2018, we have been working on our most extensive UK tour in our 13 year history, 17 shows across the UK and Ireland with some select dates supporting The Black Dahlia Murder. Captured on film by director Denise Korycki for Wild Wind Studios, she worked closely with King on every aspect of filming, and throughout the viewer finds themselves front and center as the shows unfold. This includes some inventive camera placement, such as riding in on the back of the wheelchair as it is wheeled out to "Out From The Asylum" at the start of the show, or looking up from the coffin at the commencement of "Abigail" opener "Funeral", which adds an extra dimension to proceedings. Naturally, the theatricality that has become synonymous with KING DIAMOND is there in full force, making for an even more immersive experience. The gothic stage set and the participation of actors playing out certain scenes tying into the songs definitely increases the drama and the sense of complete disconnect from the trappings of reality, ensuring that the shows remain riveting from start to finish.

While the setlists are virtually identical, the drastic difference in the two venues make for distinctly different atmospheres. The sweeping, epic scale of Graspop and the virtual sea of baying metalheads makes for a particularly thrilling spectacle, King holding them all in the palm of his hand. The Fillmore show is immediately more intimate, and rather than a mixed bag of metal lovers drunk on a weekend of the heavy stuff, the audience is comprised entirely of the KING DIAMOND devout, screaming back every word, their love for their hero bleeding from every frame. After turning back the clock in 2018 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of its Jamey Jasta-produced debut, "As Real As It Gets", the Queens, New York-based SWORN ENEMY resets its sights on the present day with its punishing new album, "Gamechanger". Due April 5 via M-Theory Audio, the disc — produced by Robb Flynn of MACHINE HEAD, and engineered, mixed and mastered by Zack Ohren (SUFFOCATION, FALLUJAH, WARBRINGER) — features 11 tracks that expertly fuse metal, thrash and New York hardcore.

SWORN ENEMY was first signed by HATEBREED frontman Jamey Jasta, who released the group's first two EPs on his Stillborn Recordings label in 2001 and 2002. He also produced the band's full-length debut, "As Real As It Gets", memorably praised by Lambgoat as "music that inspires you to want to beat the living piss out of the next unsuspecting person who walks in the room." The album was released by Elektra Records in 2003, a year that saw the band deliver memorable performances on tour with Ozzfest.

In the 15 years since, SWORN ENEMY released four additional albums of punishing metallic hardcore and toured with a number of notable acts, including ANTHRAX, MASTODON, FEAR FACTORY, SEPULTURA, SUICIDE SILENCE, DYING FETUS, EARTH CRISIS, MADBALL, BIOHAZARD and HATEBREED.

Tommy Victor will reflect on more than 30 years of PRONG releases through a YouTube series called "Tommy Plays Prong, Retrospects Of Music And Life". In the series, Victor will highlight various tracks from the 12-album PRONG catalog and do guitar playthroughs. Victor will also discuss growing up in Flushing, Queens, New York, living on the Lower East Side of New York City in the violent eighties, working at CBGB as a sound engineer from 1986 to 1990, and touring with PANTERA, WHITE ZOMBIE, BAD BRAINS and SEPULTURA.

"PRONG was definitely a Lower East Side band," says Victor. "We weren't a bunch of kids in the suburbs playing in garages. We were part of that whole art scene, the same scene as street artists like Keith Haring and Basquiat. It was a completely different world back then. A lot of people were willing to live Spartan lifestyles in shitty conditions in this fantasy art world."

On doing sound at CBGB from 1986 to 1990:

"Hilly (owner CBGB) just threw me in there. I had no idea what I was doing. He trusted me because I was 'in a band' and had me give thumbs up or down on the band playing the hardcore matinees."

Having been clean from drugs and alcohol for many years, a sober Tommy reflects on the glorification of the early "druggie-chic" days.

"In those days, it was cool to be a junkie. A lot of early punk times revolved around that. That type of rebellion against society, the ultimate rebellion is trying to kill yourself with drugs. That era, where a dark hedonism was a priority in people's lives doesn't really exist anymore, which I think is good."

On longevity, and finding one's path:

"Inevitably, if you survive, you come to the realization that all that stuff was a fad, really, and there's more to life than those old statements that you thought were so important earlier on. There's important aspects of it, but there has to be balance in your life, you have to move on, you keep walking in life, you don't just stay there."

VIXEN has recruited FEMME FATALE's Lorraine Lewis as its new lead singer following the recent departure of Janet Gardner.

Lewis has already performed with VIXEN, having fronted the group in March 2018 in Durant, Oklahoma while Gardner was recovering from surgery (see video below).

VIXEN members Roxy Petrucci (drums), Share Ross (bass) and Brittany Denaro (guitar) announced Lorraine's addition to the band in a Facebook post earlier today.

Last week, Petrucci, Ross and Denaro vowed to "expand upon the VIXEN legacy while remaining true to our musical roots."

Gardner, who released her debut self-titled solo album in 2017, broke the news of her exit from the group on January 16.

"After much soul searching and many sleepless nights, I have decided that it's time for me to step aside and let Roxy and Share pursue their vision for the future of VIXEN," she wrote.

"VIXEN will always have a very special place in my heart and I am incredibly grateful to have been a part of it," she continued.

"I would like to thank everyone for the amazing support over the years, and as Roxy and Share continue to keep the heart and soul of VIXEN alive and well and I continue on my path, your continued support to all would be greatly appreciated."

Gardner, Petrucci and Ross are considered to be part of VIXEN's classic lineup, along with founding guitarist Jan Kuehnemund, who died of cancer in October 2013.

Gardner contributed lead vocals to VIXEN's most commercially successful studio albums — "Vixen" (1988), "Rev It Up" (1990) and "Tangerine" (1998) — as well as the group's latest release, last year's live album "Live Fire".

A year ago, Gardner underwent surgery to remove blood clots in her brain, a condition known as a subdural hematoma. At the time, she was touring in support of her solo album, which came out in August 2017 via Pavement Entertainment. The disc was a collaboration between the singer, who works days as a part-time dental hygienist, and her husband, guitarist/producer Justin James, who has previously worked with STAIND, COLLECTIVE SOUL and TYKETTO.

Swiss folk metallers ELUVEITIE will release their new album, "Ategnatos", on April 5 via Nuclear Blast. The cover artwork for the disc was created by Travis Smith and can be seen below.

The band states: "'Ategnatos' probably became our most organic album by all accounts. It is the result of a thoroughly intuitive process, where we gave creativity full scope. And during this process quite some back-to-the-roots developments emerged in diverse aspects. Many a riff off 'Ategnatos' reminds on the guitar work on 'Slania'. Following our gut feeling, we brought the mixing duties back to Jens Bogren's Fascination Street studios, where our Nuclear Blast debut was produced. And regarding the album artwork, it soon became very clear to us that we'd love to work with the fabulous Travis Smith again, who already created the front covers of our albums 'Spirit' (14 years ago!) and 'Everything Remains As It Never Was'. Recordings for "Ategnatos" took at New Sound Studio with their engineer of choice Tommy Vetterli.

A work based on archaic archetypes and the ancient concept of renewal, "Ategnatos" unfolds an elemental force to be reckoned with. "These archetypes are still within us," leader Christian "Chrigel" Glanzmann says. "People didn't change that much during the last 3000 years — and men were always just men." No wonder the album follows a decidedly darker, monumental tone that suits them very well.

Of course, ELUVEITIE has long had its very own trademark sound, a sonic adventure often copied but never overcome. With "Ategnatos", the dedicated nine-piece not only worked with a real string quartet and granted Fabienne Erni's sublime mastery of the harp the room it deserved; they also undertook a holistic upgrade resulting in some of the catchiest, most aggressive and most epic tunes the Swiss metal nobility has ever offered.


ELUVEITIE has also announced a European tour with LACUNA COIL and INFECTED RAIN.

Las Vegas-based hard rock band, Bravo Delta, is slated to release their first full-length album, Unbreakable, on February 1st. A video for the title track can be seen below.

Louisiana-based progressive death metal project, A Novelist, are streaming the new song “His Kingdom Is Vast”, featured on the band's sophomore full-length, Folie, out on February 8th. Listen below.

 A Novelist is the creative partnership of drummer Alex Babineaux and vocalist, guitarist, and multi-instrumentalist Ben Nugent. Started in 2009 between friends in Lafayette, Louisiana, they began with the simple goal of writing and playing death metal. Over time their goals as a band grew larger, driven by a bold desire to expand the idea of what death metal can be through free and uncompromised expression.

Palma, Spain's melancholic doom outfit, Helevorn, have posted a lyric video for the song "Nostrum Mare (Et deixo un pont de mar blava)", which is sung in eight different languages. Heavy metal frontrunners Incite - lead by frontman Richie Cavalera - are set to release their upcoming fifth full-length album, Built To Destroy, on January 25th via Minus Head Records. Produced by Steve Evetts (The Dillinger Escape Plan, Suicide Silence) and mastered by Zeuss (Rob Zombie, Hatebreed), Built to Destroy is a visceral, urgent, voracious distillation of modern metal with reverence for the past, and boasts a progressed, matured sound for Incite.

Today, Incite have revealed a new video for the track "Resistance", featuring real footage from Los Angeles' Skid Row area juxtaposed with images of opulence and excessive affluence to illustrate the immense wealth gap in America. Richie Cavalera says, "'Resistance' touches upon the huge problem of wealth inequality in America, as well as the rest of the world. When the 1% has more than billions of people, shit has become out of control. We shot this video at Skid Row in Los Angeles, which I think shows first-hand how absolutely fucked up the problem is. This is a heavy song, along with a video that hopefully opens some eyes."

Iron Maiden will bring the Legacy Of The Beast Tour to North America in 2019 for an extensive series of arena and amphitheater shows produced by Live Nation, including a first ever headline appearance at the Banc of California Stadium in LA. The tour will cover a total of 33 cities right across the US and Canada, including Portland, Oregon where they haven’t played since 1987 on the Somewhere In Time Tour, Hartford, Connecticut where they last played in 2005, and many other places not visited since the Maiden England 2012/13 Tour. For the 2019 shows, Iron Maiden will, in conjunction with the Promoters, be implementing a partial digital ticketing system in as many venues as possible. This technology, being used by the NFL amongst others, is a progression of the paperless system that Maiden have been successfully using since 2010 and has worked well in lessening ticket scalping and the drain of prime tickets into the Secondary market.

Fans in the US and Canada will once again be able to enjoy a Trooper VIP Upgrade package allowing early access to the venue, a pile of Trooper goodies, Trooper beers, food and a designated area to meet with other fans, plus the opportunity to win some great prizes. PEARL JAM bassist Jeff Ament and guitarist Stone Gossard spoke to Rolling Stone about the progress of the songwriting sessions for the band's long-awaited follow-up to 2013's "Lightning Bolt" album.

"It'd be fun to record or even just write a song together," Ament said. "I think when Chris [Cornell] passed, that's really been a tough one to wrap our heads around, and then there's just life stuff."

Gossard added: "We're going to make a record, and we're in the middle of it. We're just going to keep plugging away until we get one done."

"We've gone in, probably, four or five times in the last couple of years, so we have a whole ton of unfinished stuff," Ament said. "We're just sort of in a little bit of limbo. I'm sure everybody's got a bunch more riffs, and I'm sure Ed's [singer Eddie Vedder] got a handful of journal lyrics. It's just going to take us all getting into a room together for six weeks and just knocking something out."

Last March, PEARL JAM released a new song called "Can't Deny Me". The just-over-two-and-a-half-minute track was co-produced by the band and Brendan O'Brien and is set to appear on PEARL JAM's forthcoming LP. The music for the song was written by guitarist Mike McCready and lyrics by Vedder. Artwork for the single was created by Ament and videographer Kevin Shuss. The song appears to take direct aim at President Donald Trump — albeit without mentioning his name.

Swedish folk metal pioneers, Falconer, performed at Germany's Waken Open Air festival in summer 2015, and endured the heaviest rain since the festival's founding in 1990. Texas-based "groove" metallers PISSING RAZORS have inked a deal with Art Is War Records. The band's new studio album will be released later in the year. The first single from the disc, "Crushing Grip", is out now. The song was engineered by Eddie Garcia and PISSING RAZORS and was mixed and mastered by Chris Collier.

PISSING RAZORS' current lineup includes founding members Eddy Garcia (drums), Joe Rodriguez (vocals) and Mat Lynch (guitar), who led the band to gain a loyal underground following in the mid/late '90s and early 2000s through constant touring, both stateside and abroad.

PISSING RAZORS stated about the Art Is War signing: "We look forward to a long and prosperous musical journey together. Art Is War is the perfect choice for us to work with in releasing our long-awaited new material. The world will see a return to our early heavy groove, punk-infused metal roots people know us best for."

Art Is War CEO Lucas Joyner said: "Having RAZORS join the label has been in the works since the start. Myself and Steev from SKINLAB worked hard to make sure a home for the El Paso, Texas legends was here and nowhere else than at Art is War Records! We will be ready to unleash the beast in 2019."


PISSING RAZORS was formed by the Garcia brothers (Eddy and Danny) in the early '90s under the moniker BACK DOOR CYCLOPS, but changed its name to PISSING RAZORS in time for the release of the band's debut studio album, "Psycho Punko Metal Groove", in 1996. The CD was followed by "Pissing Razors", "Cast Down The Plague", "Fields Of Disbelief" (2000), "Where We Come From" (2001), the live record "Live In The Devil's Triangle" (2002) and the group's latest release, "Evolution", in 2003.

The second North American leg of METALLICA's "WorldWired" features in-the-round production and a few firsts, including a "Light It Up" pre-show party hosted by the band's friend, comedian Jim Breuer; and a "Wherever I May Roam Black Ticket" that gives a limited number of fans floor access to any show on the tour.

The "WorldWired" set and stage design, designed by the show's director, Dan Braun, features an immersive concert experience with a 44' x 44' square main-stage equipped with several prop lifts located in the center of the arena.

The "WorldWired" show features the touring industry's first autonomous indoor drone swarm, with 99 micro drones dancing like fireflies for the song "Moth Into Flame".

METALLICA kicked off the 2018/2019 U.S. leg of the "WorldWired" arena tour back in September in Madison, Wisconsin. The trek will resume on January 18 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

No details are available as yet, but Children Of Bodom are teaming up with Finland-based Fat Lizard Brewing Co. Check out the video teaser posted by the brewery. 

Fat Lizard Brewing Co. is a Finnish indie brewery specializing in super fresh and drinkable American-style beers. They are located in Otaniemi, in the very heart of Espoo, Finland. As the first commercial brewery ever in Espoo, the company was founded in 2014 and has been operative since February 2015. Today the brewery staff includes 10 irreplaceable characters altogether.

Children Of Bodom will release their tenth album, Hexed, on March 8th via Nuclear Blast Records. They have announced their Hexed 2019 North American Tour.

The trek will kick off in Quebec City on March 13th and conclude in New York City on April 19th. HALESTORM frontwoman Lzzy Hale has defended GRETA VAN FLEET over accusations that the Michigan rockers have ripped off LED ZEPPELIN, saying that "a lot of kids should be reintroduced" to ZEPPELIN-style rock and roll.

Despite the fact that GRETA VAN FLEET has managed to sell out shows all over the world, the four-piece has been criticized for channeling a sound uncannily similar to LED ZEPPELIN, with some music fans slamming singer Josh Kiszka for allegedly copy-and-pasting Robert Plant's vocal style.

During a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Hale was asked if she is a fan of GRETA VAN FLEET. "I am, because I was that age once," she said. "I started [HALESTORM] when I was a kid too. I know people dog on them about how they sound similar to ZEPPELIN, but at the same time, when we first started putting our stuff into the world, didn't we wear our influences on our sleeves? I'll take it, because LED ZEPPELIN is awesome and I think a lot of kids should be reintroduced to this. Just by being up there and playing instruments — they plug in, play and actually sing — it's a great thing for kids to see."

GRETA VAN FLEET's sound has been compared to LED ZEPPELIN numerous times, with Plant even seeing the similarities. "There's a band in Detroit called GRETA VAN FLEET: they are 'Led Zeppelin I'," he said. "Beautiful little singer, I hate him!" he said last year.

Last month, GRETA VAN FLEET scored four Grammy Award nominations, one for each major rock category — "Best Rock Album", "Best Rock Song", "Best Rock Performance" — and a "Best New Artist" nod.

The band's debut album, "Anthem Of The Peaceful Army", debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart in July despite earning a lukewarm 53/100 score on review curation site Metacritic.

Steven Tyler is one of several artists who were interviewed by GQ magazine about their approach to sobriety.

The AEROSMITH singer, alt stars Jason Isbell and Julien Baker and EAGLES guitarist Joe Walsh were quizzed about how they quit drink and drugs and the effect it had on their music.

Tyler — whose vast consumption of cocaine, heroin and alcohol in the 1970s earned him and bandmate Joe Perry the nickname "The Toxic Twins" — said that he had a lot of fun drinking and using drugs.

"You have a shot of Jack Daniel's and you play Madison Square Garden and you get offstage and you go clubbing with Jimmy Page — come on!" he said. "After two encores in Madison Square Garden, you don't go and play shuffleboard. Or Yahtzee, you know? You go and rock the fuck out. You've done something that you never thought you could, and you actually think that you are a super-being."

Tyler, who once said he "snorted half of Peru" (meaning cocaine, of course), said that his drug use got to a point where nothing mattered more.

"We would do cocaine to go up, quaaludes to come down," he said. "We would drink and then snort some coke until we thought we were straight. But that's not true — you're just drunk and coked out. It was more or less the thing to do, back then as well."

"I don't think there were any bands that even knew what sober was," he added.

"I was the kind of guy who would hate to be the guy who never came down because he never went up, if you can understand that. So I played with everything."

Tyler said that his drug use enhanced his performance at first but eventually took its toll. Over time, he noticed that he required more alcohol or drugs to get the same relief.

"It absolutely works for a while," he said. "But then things go wrong. You become addicted, it's something you do all the time, and suddenly it starts influencing your greatness. What happens with using is: It works in the beginning, but it doesn't work in the end. It takes you down. There's nothing but jail, insanity or death."

Asked if he missed anything about how he used to be, Tyler said: "I got a band that's still together, the guys are still alive, everyone's healthy. We play better than we did 50 years ago. I mean, there was a certain rawness when we played clubs and we were all fucked up. Sure, I get it. But the band is still together and still sought-after. People still want us for a million-plus dollars a night. And that's what's at risk if I use again. And my kids. My cats. My dogs. My beautiful fucking house in Maui. My girlfriend. Everything is at risk."

AEROSMITH is among the artists who will perform at the three-night Bud Light Super Bowl Music Fest, set to take place January 31 through February 2 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.

Ozzy Osbourne has released a plush toy to mark the anniversary of his infamous bat-biting incident.

On January 20, 1982, Ozzy bit the head off a live bat during a concert at Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Des Moines, Iowa. He later claimed he thought it was a toy thrown to him by an audience member.

"Today marks the 37th Anniversary since I bit a head off a f*cking bat," the BLACK SABBATH singer tweeted earlier today. "Celebrate with this commemorative plush with detachable head."

The 12-inch-tall web-exclusive item can be purchased for $40. A description reads: "Bring the legendary moment in rock history to life with this soft toy plush bat, featuring the Ozzy Osbourne logo and a velcro detachable head."

Osbourne in 2008 gave a definitive account of the bat-biting experience to Classic Rock magazine. "It must have been stunned by the lights or something because it just froze and I thought it was a toy," he said. "I just put it in my mouth. Then its wings started flapping and I got such a shock. I tried to pull it out too quickly and its head came off."

The verdict? "It tasted all crunchy and warm . . . like a Ronald McDonald's."

After the show, Osbourne reportedly went to Mercy Hospital Medical Center, and was referred to Broadlawns Medical Center because rabies vaccine was available there. He was given a tetanus shot and a rabies shot and took enough rabies vaccine with him to complete the series, according to the Des Moines Register.

Des Moines's then-mayor Pete Crivaro said he wanted to find out if Ozzy "violated an agreement on the use of animals in his act. We had been assured he wasn't going to, and I want to find out who is lying," Crivaro said.

Dave Palmitier, the manager of the auditorium, told the Des Moines Register that Osbourne "did let some doves loose, which he wasn't supposed to do. We found one dead that apparently had been killed in the audience," he said.

Des Moines's then-police lieutenant Derald Leaming said he had warned Osbourne's manager before the show that if an animal was harmed, he and Osbourne "were going to jail because it's against Iowa law.

"We had heard about Osbourne sticking birds in his mouth and warned them he would be arrested on the spot if he bit them," he said.

Ozzy's bat-biting incident was the focus of an episode of "Myths And Legends", a TV Land original television series in which celebrity and expert panelists discuss popular myths surrounding American television, music, and motion pictures, promise answers to these and other great and not-so-great Hollywood stories.

Nearly four decades later, the story of Osbourne's historic chomp still has teeth.

"Ozzy biting the head off a bat in Des Moines is pretty much a badge of honor," Corey Taylor, the Des Moines rock/metal singer who fronts the bands SLIPKNOT and STONE SOUR, told the Des Moines Register. "It's still, to me, my favorite [rock incident]."

Michigan rockers GRETA VAN FLEET performed their Grammy-nominated hit "Black Smoke Rising" and new single "You're The One" on the January 19 episode of "Saturday Night Live". Check out video footage below.

GRETA VAN FLEET bassist Sam Kiszka told Vulture about the band's appearance on the long-running NBC variety sketch series: "This is just another one of those things that has come full circle for us. We used to sit around the TV… This is getting so weird to say, 'We used to.' We used to watch the Grammys as a family and watch 'SNL' as a family. We would watch the late-night television shows when we couldn't sleep. It's a re-circling of something very relevant in family and life. This is one of those milestones."

Sam was also asked about the October 2018 Pitchfork review of GRETA VAN FLEET's debut album, "Anthem Of The Peaceful Army", which ripped the record as "stiff, hackneyed, overly precious retro-fetishism" and called the Michigan quartet "more of an algorithmic fever dream than an actual rock band."

"I don't know the intent behind the piece," he said. "I haven't read it. I'm not sure if it's a publication trying to get attention or if it's somebody who genuinely doesn't like us and what we're doing. I really don't think we get worked up about that, because here's one person who's complaining about it. If you can't do it, then you just write about it. I feel like this man has had a troubled past. Prayers up for him. But it actually feels really good, because some of our favorite bands have had some pretty aggressive criticism. I think it's cool. [Laughs]"

Sam went on to say that the LED ZEPPELIN comparisons have gotten tiresome over the years. But, he reasoned, "It's an innate human instinct, to compare and contrast and make things more relatable. That's something that will always be a human instinct. I really feel like it's died down though, over the past three or six months. Which is nice, because I'm getting kind of tired of answering those questions."

After the Pitchfork review was published, fans mobilized to defend the band's honor online and "Anthem Of The Peaceful Army" ended up debuting at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart, earning 87,000 album-equivalent units. Indian metal band Bloodywood have released a new song entitled "Endurant", written as an anti-bullying anthem. Watch to the end of the video.

Bloodywood began as a metal parody project, "destroying pop songs as a full-time job". You can hear and see the results below

Mighty Music has announced the signing of the Norwegian death metal band BLOOD RED THRONE. The group's new full-length album, titled "Fit To Kill", will be released in late spring.

BLOOD RED THRONE's guitar player, founder and mastermind Daniel "Død" Olaisen says: "2018 was a quiet year for us. Now, we start 2019 by joining forces with our Scandinavian friends in Mighty Music record label that will release our ninth album, 'Fit To Kill', this spring. We have several live shows comin' up and we're ready as fuck to take back the 'Throne.'"

Fernando Reis from Mighty Music comments: "We've been following BLOOD RED THRONE as fans since their 'Monument Of Death' debut album in 2001, and have always been fans of their crunchy, technically pinched, full-on death metal. They've been carrying the [death metal] flame in Scandinavia throughout all the black metal several waves. When the opportunity came to work with them, there was no room for second thoughts."

BLOOD RED THRONE was started by Olaisen when he played in SATYRICON in the '90s. Original drummer Freddy "Fred The Shred" Bolsø returned in 2013 and Ivan "Meathook" Gujic, Ole "Hellbent" Madsen and Yngve "Bolt" Christiansen have been in the team the last eight to 10 years. Stian "Gunner" Gundersen was recently replaced as the band's new bass player.

BLOOD RED THRONE is known for its energetic live shows. The band has toured with such groups as DIMMU BORGIR, ENSLAVED, SUFFOCATION and CRYPTOPSY.

NY-based neo-classical rockers, Livesay, released their latest album Chronicles to a worldwide audience on November 30th via RFL Records. The band is extremely proud to announce the debut of their 1st and much anticipated video for the single “International Man” exclusively on BraveWords!

The video was produced by Hydrogyn guitarist and producer Jeff Westlake and his Ridgeline Production Studio along with video production by Gail Corrow of Gail Corrow Photography. Livesay comments: “I am proud to have all of our fans experience the video release for ‘International Man’ along with us. The song ‘International Man’ was inspired by stories from the road from one of my musician friends who’s been touring a while. We were talking, and he jokingly said something to the effect that he is known everywhere, ‘I’m International.’ “We were in our hotel room going over our set and I was recanting some of his stories, when I got the idea to write a song and call it the ‘International Man.’ “The guys all laughed, but I was serious and wrote the song in 3 days.”

Livesay is a prime example of a band that has flown under the proverbial radar and has self-sustained four incredible albums – Livesay – S/T (1996), Darkest Hour (2000), Awaken the Giant (2010) and Frozen Hell (2016). Livesay is not a novice to the big stage and has opened for a multitude of hard rocks premier acts such as Ronnie James Dio, Y&T, Dokken, Lynch Mob, Ratt, Thin Lizzy, Vince Neil, Sebastian Bach, Quiet Riot, Michael Schenker, UFO, Fates Warning and many others. In addition to appearing at the Rock N’ Skull Festival 2 years in a row, they have headlined many times as well. With very little major backing, it’s been a willingness and belief that has driven this band.

Livesay’s sound is not easily classified; musical diversity is what powers these guys. It can best be described as neo-classical, melodic, hard rock meshed with progressive elements that combined, deliver a sonic, dream symphony. The band draws influences and inspiration from the likes of Yngwie Malmsteen, Classic Deep Purple, Racer X, Early Dream Theater and Early Fates Warning. With a magnitude of melodic, catchy hooks and vocal harmonies to the dark, mystical, heavy, technical progression, there is something for every rock genre to latch onto.

The new album titled Chronicles features 13 tracks that bring the history of Livesay full-circle. LAST IN LINE will release its sophomore album, "II", on February 22 via Frontiers Music Srl. As with 2016's "Heavy Crown", the new disc was produced by DOKKEN and FOREIGNER bassist Jeff Pilson.

The official music video for the album first single, "Landslide", was released in November.

"'Landslide' was the first song we wrote for this record," vocalist Andrew Freeman says. "It was really easy to write as all of the parts fell into place quickly. The title 'Landslide' is a metaphor relating to the day-to-day struggles that we all go through as people. Trying to keep on course when dealing with adversity, manipulation through media and leadership. It's meant to inspire strength and resolve."

LAST IN LINE was formed in 2012, when Vinny Appice, Jimmy Bain and Vivian Campbell — Ronnie James Dio's co-conspirators and co-writers on the "Holy Diver", "Last In Line" and "Sacred Heart" albums — teamed up with esteemed vocalist Andrew Freeman. The debut album "Heavy Crown" was released in February 2016, landing at No. 1 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart. Initially, the release had been preceded by tragedy when bassist Jimmy Bain unexpectedly passed away at the age of 68 on January 23, 2016. LAST IN LINE, honoring what they knew would be Bain's wish to keep the band moving, brought in renowned bassist Phil Soussan (ex-OZZY OSBOURNE) and committed to sustained touring in support of the album, hitting festivals, headlining clubs, and sharing the stage with metal luminaries such as SAXON and MEGADETH.


In late 2017, the band gathered in Los Angeles to start the recording of the second album, which was produced by the band members and Jeff Pilson (FOREIGNER, DOKKEN), who also helmed the debut album. Having really jelled as a band while touring in support of the first disc, the songwriting came readily to the members. They've created a record that shows a big progression in sound, while immediately being recognizable as LAST IN LINE thanks to Appice's rhythms, thunderous bass from Soussan, amazing vocals from Freeman, and the roaring guitars of Campbell.

"The musical style of 'II' is different from 'Heavy Crown', but it wasn't something that we planned to do," explains Campbell. "Phil is a more intricate player than Jimmy was and that, together with the natural growth and development of the band led us to the songs on the album. As always, we simply started to jam on ideas and see where they led us. But it's fair to say that the songs on this album sound more developed, with more parts and more experimentation than the songs on 'Heavy Crown'. The first album set a tone, but on 'II' we developed that idea and took it to the next logical stage."


Appice, on the sound of the new record and songwriting process, says: "I always sound like me. Viv and I have been playing together for years and have the same feel and pulse and attitude. Now with Phil on bass, he allows a more melodic approach on the bass parts making the songs even more interesting. He fits in perfectly being from the same musical family and time as me and Viv. Mr. Freeman sings from his soul and completes the band's sound with his melodies and amazing range."


He continues: "The songwriting process was the same as DIO's 'Holy Diver'. First, we have fun writing together. We get in a room and jam on riffs and chords until we hit on something good, then continue to build it into a song. Andy puts his magic on it and it all works out very well."


Soussan says about how it was joining LAST IN LINE and the development of the songs: "It was refreshing to be able to write songs in such an organic fashion — by jamming and developing ideas as a group, without bringing in preconceived songs — something I haven't done for ages. The result was a true collaboration, a concept that is so rare these days! Vinny has a unique style of drumming that, beyond keeping beats, inspires riffs and arrangements and Vivian has a way of playing that has a conviction to every note. He is able to turn every riff into a signature. Andrew was creative and unrestricted, focusing his contemporary influences into vocal stylings and hooks that are outside the classic rock clichés. He is very much a perfectionist. Beyond trying to remain true to Jimmy's playing and to the heritage of the relationship between Viv and Vinny, everyone was completely open to exploring any possible idea. I am honestly prouder of our efforts on this album than anything in which I have been involved in for a very long time. With 'II', I would like to think that we have stretched out from 'Heavy Crown' to test some uncharted waters.... the evolution of LAST IN LINE!"

Bain was reportedly suffering from lung cancer at the time of his death.

Nikki Sixx says that he is "shocked" R. Kelly, an artist who has been repeatedly accused of sexual misconduct throughout his career, "is not in jail or dead."

The MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist made his comments after watching "Surviving R. Kelly", a new documentary series that chronicles the litany of sexual assault accusations against the singer that go back decades.

"Saw the 'Surviving R Kelly' documentary and am shocked he is not in jail or dead," Sixx tweeted earlier today. "The sad sick thing is he still has millions of followers + fans that turn a blind eye to his child molestation as he keeps slipping through the cracks but what about all the peoples lives he ruined?"

Sixx is not the only rocker to to call for justice in the wake of Kelly's alleged crimes. A few days ago, SHINEDOWN guitarist Zach Myers took to Twitter to express his surprise that the public has waited so long to show its outrage over the touted King of R&B's alleged abuse of underage black girls.

"Love that people are just now so 'appalled' at R Kelly," Myers wrote. "Cause the video of him pissing on and fucking a 15 year old girl years ago just wasn't enough evidence that he's a giant piece of shit I guess?"

Allegations against R. Kelly have been circulating for many years.

More than a decade ago, he was put on trial in Chicago after a tape surfaced that prosecutors said showed him having sex with, and urinating on, a 14-year-old girl. He was eventually found not guilty on all 14 counts.

Earlier this month, the Lifetime network devoted six hours and three consecutive nights to "Surviving R. Kelly", which contains more than 50 interviews and covers a time span from 1970 to today.

Following the January 2 release of "Surviving R. Kelly", several high-profile artists — including Lady Gaga, Celine Dion and Chance The Rapper — pulled their collaborations with R. Kelly from all streaming services and/or YouTube.

Steve Greenburg, an attorney for R. Kelly, said that the singer denies all allegations of sexual misconduct towards women and underage girls.

"The allegations aren't true because he never knowingly had sex with an underage woman, he never forced anyone to do anything, he never held anyone captive, he never abused anyone," Greenburg told the Associated Press.

GRETA VAN FLEET frontman Josh Kiszka says that it's time that people stop comparing his band to LED ZEPPELIN.

Despite the fact that GRETA VAN FLEET has managed to sell out shows all over the world, the four-piece has been criticized for channeling a sound uncannily similar to iconic rock outfit, with some music fans slamming Josh for allegedly copy-and-pasting Robert Plant's vocal style.

An October 2018 review of GRETA VAN FLEET's debut album, "Anthem Of The Peaceful Army", ripped the record as "stiff, hackneyed, overly precious retro-fetishism" and called the Michigan quartet "more of an algorithmic fever dream than an actual rock band." "Anthem" was given a 1.6 out of 10 on the web site's rating scale. The disc also earned a lukewarm 53/100 score on review curation site Metacritic.

Kiszka told Rolling Stone that he didn't even read the Pitchfork review. "It's unfortunate they'd be putting that energy out into the world, but it's their prerogative, I guess," he said. "Ultimately, I'd like to think that there's substance to what we're doing.

"Obviously we hear the similarity," he added. "That's one of the influences of ours. But at this point it's like, 'Okay, we've acknowledged that. Let's move on.'"

After the Pitchfork review was published, fans mobilized to defend the band's honor online and "Anthem Of The Peaceful Army" ended up debuting at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart, earning 87,000 album-equivalent units. GRETA VAN FLEET also topped the Billboard Artist 100 chart, which comprises album sales, streaming, radio airplay and social media buzz surrounding an artist.

GRETA VAN FLEET's sound has been compared to LED ZEPPELIN numerous times, with Plant even seeing the similarities. "There's a band in Detroit called GRETA VAN FLEET: they are 'Led Zeppelin I'," he said. "Beautiful little singer, I hate him!" he said last year.
