DIRK VERBEUREN On Recent Lineup Changes In MEGADETH: 'It's Life. Things Happen.'

DIRK VERBEUREN On Recent Lineup Changes In MEGADETH: 'It's Life. Things Happen.'

In a new interview with Portugal's Underground's Voice, MEGADETH drummer Dirk Verbeuren was asked how he has dealt with some of the recent lineup changes in the band, specifically with the departure of guitarist Kiko Loureiro and addition of Teemu Mäntysaari, as well as the return of bassist James LoMenzo following the dismissal of David Ellefson. He responded (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "It's life. Things happen. It's difficult being in a band, especially for an amount of time. And it's like any job. Oftentimes they say, [being] in a band, it's kind of like a marriage. And sometimes it doesn't work out. People have things happen in their life. Like in Kiko's case, for example, he had family things happening that demanded that he should be there for his family. And we tour a lot, and it just became very difficult for him to really enjoy and be present on tour, because of the stuff that was happening back at home. So I think we all believe that he made the right decision, because family comes first, of course; his children come first. But that's how it is. And luckily, we found Teemu, who's an incredible guitar player. Kiko recommended him, and Teemu came towards the end of Kiko's time in the band. Teemu came and joined along and watched the show and went over all the details and stuff. And so when we finally started playing with him, he was already very familiar with how we operate. And he's been amazing. He's an amazing guitar player, he's a great person to be around. So it's been really nice. And the same with James. James, of course, he has been in MEGADETH for many years before, between 2006 and 2010, so when James came back, it was very natural as well. And he's an expert — he's been doing this for many years playing with a lot of different people. And [he's] a great person as well. I love James a lot."

MEGADETH's latest album, "The Sick, The Dying... And The Dead!", sold 48,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in its first week of release to land at position No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart. It marked MEGADETH's eighth top 10-charting album. Of "The Sick, The Dying... And The Dead!"'s 48,000 units earned for the week, album sales comprised 45,000, SEA units comprised 3,000 and TEA units comprised a negligible sum.

MEGADETH's previous top 10 entries on the Billboard 200 were "Countdown to Extinction" (No. 2, 1992),"Youthanasia" (No. 4, 1994),"Cryptic Writings" (No. 10, 1997),"United Abominations" (No. 8, 2007),"Endgame" (No. 9, 2009),"Super Collider" (No. 6, 2013) and "Dystopia" (No. 3, 2016).

MEGADETH recently announced a North American tour "Destroy All Enemies", produced by Live Nation. Support on the 33-city trek, which includes stops in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Boston and St. Louis, will come from MUDVAYNE and ALL THAT REMAINS. The tour begins in Rogers, Arkansas on August 2 and runs throughout the month before wrapping in Nashville, Tennessee on September 28.

Mäntysaari joined MEGADETH last September after Loureiro, announced earlier that month that he would sit out the next leg of MEGADETH's "Crush The World" tour in order to stay home with his children back in Finland. It was later revealed that Mäntysaari would continue to play guitar for MEGADETH for the foreseeable future, with Loureiro seemingly having no plans to return.

The 37-year-old Mäntysaari was born in Tampere, Finland and began playing guitar at the age of 12. In 2004, he joined the band WINTERSUN. He has also been a member of SMACKBOUND since 2015.

MEGADETH played its first concert with Mäntysaari on September 6, 2023 at Revel in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Loureiro officially joined MEGADETH in April 2015, about five months after Chris Broderick's exit from the group.

Sweden's WOLFBRIGADE To Release Life Knife Death Album In September; "Disarm Or Be Destroyed" Track Streaming

Sweden's WOLFBRIGADE To Release Life Knife Death Album In September; "Disarm Or Be Destroyed" Track Streaming

Swedish hardcore punk icons and recent Metal Blade signees, Wolfbrigade, will release their eleventh full-length studio offering, Life Knife Death, on September 13 via Metal Blade Records.

Formed in 1995 in the small Swedish city of Mariestad by key players from Sweden's legendary hardcore scene, Wolfbrigade - previously known as Wolfpack until 1999 - stands among Scandinavia's most respected, influential, and reliable purveyors of real-world brute-force tumult.

On their crushing Life Knife Death, thirty years of skill are honed to a fine edge and dispatched with greater style and intensity than ever before. Most immediately, there's the sheer velocity and barely controlled rage pumping through dynamic d-beaten blood-shakers like "Ways To Die" and "Your God Is A Corpse," the furious attack assisted to heart-fluttering greatness by a newly loosened sense of raucous spontaneity. "We didn't really rehearse any of the songs on this album," the band reveals. "We tend to overwork and overanalyze everything that we do, and sometimes we get lost in that process. This time we wanted to go rough, to capture the raw essence of the song when it's just out of the womb. All the blood and gore."

Wolfbrigade's penchant for focused self-reflection aided them most satisfyingly in the arrangement and sequencing of these twelve killer tunes. The subtle shades of melody and versatility throughout Life Knife Death represents another of Wolfbrigade's strongest suits, the songs progressing with an organic, complementary flow, from the epic guitar heroics opening "Unruled And Unnamed" to the spooky churning outro "The Age Of Skull Fuckery."

The band's disparate influences are drawn together with unifying solidity - the remorseless rhythms of Discharge, the blue-collar rock 'n' roll of Motörhead, the heads-down bludgeon of classic Entombed - even the Beatles get a look in, albeit in subverted form, with the splendid title "A Day In The Life Of An Arse." "I just thought of that song title, which is genius on its own, and 'Of An Arse' just popped into my head. Beatles churned through the Wolfbrigade mill, the horror of waking up to another day, playing your part in the never ending shitscene of mankind."

In a 2019 Bandcamp interview to promote Wolfbrigade's last LP, The Enemy: Reality, bassist Johan Erkenvåg observed that, "the political climate in the world these past few years has been the worst that we've ever experienced in our lifetimes." After half a decade of war, pestilence, catastrophe, and terror, it's as if the world heard Erkenvåg's assertion and said, "hold my beer." Mounting global chaos may have us all darkly fearing the end times, but it has also seemingly created the ideal circumstances for a hardcore punk LP as coruscatingly brutal as Wolfbrigade's Life Knife Death.

"Well yeah, who could've known! The five years that have passed since our last album have served as a pretty good backdrop for a new punk record or misanthropy in general," affirms the band, adding a wry reference for the Bill Hicks fans, "Mankind - a virus with shoes. As always, our lyrics are fueled by the ever-growing disgust we feel about humanity. The everyday realization that we are a part of this fear-animalistic stupidity that drives the world further into oblivion. The inspiration just keeps raining down from the sky, killing the masses. Waking up to this every day makes us want to scream in horror."

In advance of the release of Life Knife Death, today the band unleashes first single, "Disarm Or Be Destroyed" noting of the track, "This is a song about the ugliness of desire and the beauty of destruction. The urge to burn and destroy is also an urge to create and evolve. Right or wrong, there's pleasure in smashing some things into pieces." Listen to the track below.

Life Knife Death will be released on CD and digital formats as well as vinyl in the following formats:

Does DAVID ELLEFSON Envision A Time When He And DAVE MUSTAINE Will Play Together Again? He Responds

Does DAVID ELLEFSON Envision A Time When He And DAVE MUSTAINE Will Play Together Again? He Responds

In a new interview with The Classic Rock Podcast, former MEGADETH bassist David Ellefson was asked if he envisions a time where he and the Dave Mustaine can get back together and work on MEGADETH again. He responded (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "Well, I suggested that in 2004, when he was coming back from his hand injury, talking about putting it back together again. I said, 'Why don't we do…?' 'Cause ASIA and YES had just done it. I thought it was so cool. They brought everybody back — Steve HoweandTrevor Rabin. And I'm a Trevor Rabin fan. I'm kind of more of a fan of that era. But there's some that are the fan of the other guy. So, I thought, 'What a cool thing [it would be] to bring [former MEGADETH guitarist] Marty [Friedman] and [former MEGADETH drummer] Nick [Menza].' Nick was still with us. At that point, Gar [Samuelson, former MEGADETH drummer] was the only deceased member the legacy. And I just thought, 'Man, how cool would it be to bring everybody back?' Even if it was a tour, to just do something like that, because as the years go on, it's harder and harder to do that. I guess now they save that shit for the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction. Then they get everybody there."

Ellefson continued: "Look, the truth of it is we've all had a great journey. We've had our own personal journeys, our journeys together. Look, Dave's doing his thing. He seems happy where he's at doing that. Jeff [Young, former MEGADETH guitarist] and I are happy over here doing our thing [with KINGS OF THRASH and other projects]. And when you spend some years and some miles together in the yellow submarine, the tin can of a tour bus and hotels and planes, look, it's easy to get on each other's nerves. You just need some space. And especially, I think, as we get older and we've done it a lot more. As I told the guys [in KINGS OF THRASH] last week — we were on the bus — I was, like, 'Guys, I've been bouncing around in these tin cans for 40-plus years.' And it's fun… But for people that haven't done it as much, it's thrilling. And it's still fun for me, man. Get on a bus, lay in your bunk, lay in your coffin and go, 'All right. I guess if I die here, I'm just driving 70 miles an hour down the road tonight.' That's the journey. That's where the journey ends. That's the life of a troubadour, the life of a musician. So, I think for us to just be out doing what we love to do, and the fact that people still actually wanna pay us to do it, and still ask us to go to the stage, I mean, that is a real gift. It's a real treat that they still wanna hear that from us. So we're lucky that we all got to be in one of the cool bands, that people still wanna see and hear us do this."

A little over a year ago, Ellefson was asked by Loaded Radio podcast if he would consider returning to MEGADETH if he was ever asked again. He responded: "Well, look, I'm not the one who closed the door. [Laughs] You know what I mean.

"Dave's always gonna be my brother, man. And it's funny, when I think about Dave — I'm just walking around the house, I'm thinking about some moment in our friendship and our history together — they're usually fond memories. And look, brothers fight, brothers hug and make up, and that's the journey. As a musical gig, it's, like, oh, well, set that off. That's off the palette now. Clearly I've moved on with other things that you can see I really enjoy. So… whatever.

"I've talked to other friends of mine about this who have had bands, and they're in other bands where members have come and gone and whatever, and especially when you're a principal, key member and a founding member and all these different things, you have a deferent kinship to your fans.

"I always say this: when you make a record, you're making it for you. But when you put that record out, that record is for your audience," he explained. "And at that point, it now becomes bigger than you; it becomes bigger than the four or five or three of you, whatever are in the band — it's bigger than you now. And those songs are gonna outlive us. And everything about that legacy and the stories we just talked about here are now in infamy; they're gonna last forever.

"So, for me, you're part of a family. And look, should there ever be a family reunion? Hey, of course, I'll always take the call," Ellefson added. "But with that said, I'm not sitting around waiting for a MEGADETH reunion. Let's just put it that way. I'm very forward focused right now and I'm very laser focused on what's ahead."

In a May 2023 interview with Brazil's Heavy Talk, Ellefson was asked if he spoke to Mustaine "about a solution" before he was fired from the group in May 2021, just days after sexually tinged messages and explicit video footage involving the bassist were posted on Twitter. He responded: "I got one call: 'You're fired.' [Laughs] And I said, 'What the fuck, man?' I said, 'Some shitty fucking people just dropped a bomb on my house. And that's it? It's not even true. It's fucking bullshit. And this is how you treat me?' It was non-negotiable. I mean, I asked. I said, 'I'm gonna take care of it. Let me just deal with it. And it will fucking be done. We'll be ready to go on the road in two months, and everything will be fine.' And it was. Because it was just false allegations and bullshit. But [Dave] didn't wanna know about it. I think he was getting pressure from some other people around him. And it's too bad it went that way. Because it was really nothing. I took care of it. And then once the word came out that I was fired, then it turned into this big fucking thing, which, quite honestly, was very damaging and very hurtful and not fair. I'm glad I don't have that fucking amends on my shoulder, because that was fucked up.

"Look, I have no choice but to have to forgive it so I can move on. I really don't," he continued. "So I don't know what more to say about it other than that. Look, at some point… The damage was done. So you move on. We're all human, and it is what it is. You can't lament it. I've watched how he's treated his dismissal from METALLICA, still bitching about it 40 years later, and I think it looks fucking pathetic. And it's, like, 'You know what? Fix you shit and move on.' And that's how I've chosen to deal with it: fix your shit and move on. And that's why I put out four records in the time the last fucking MEGADETH record came out, and I think every one of 'em are as good or better than the latest MEGADETH record. I think the quality… And part of it is I'm working with great people. Whether they're famous or not doesn't matter. I'm working with good people. They're safe, they're reliable, they're truly men of integrity, and I think that really makes a big difference. I feel safe around them. And the creative process is fun. It's not restrictive. It's unlimited. And so this creative explosion has happened. And again, listen, I'm not trying to be in 85 bands — believe me, I'm not. But it's interesting that there was this sort of post-MEGADETH season here where all these records came out. And rather than try to limit them and restrict them, I'm, like, 'Fuck it. Put 'em out. Let's go.' In a lot of ways, it's turned out okay. It's been fine. And I'm okay. People ask, and I'm, like, 'I'm okay.' It was kind of a weird ending."

Ellefson added: "I mean, look, I knew three things when I met Dave: one, our band was gonna be successful; two, it was gonna be a lot of work; and three, one day this is gonna end really badly. I just could tell. [Laughs] Even at 18 years old, a kid from the farm, naïve as I was, I went, 'Yeah, all three of those things.' And I was right: check, check, check. I certainly didn't see it ending like that. And part of me, I always kind of go, 'Is it really the end of the story?' I mean, look at how it ended in 2002. In 2004 and [200]5, we were in litigation over business matters and stuff, and I ended up going back to the band. So I'd rather not disrespect it and be pissed about it. These are things that you work out privately, not publicly. And the press liked to have a field day with it because it was good clickbait there for a season. But the truth of it is Dave and I aren't talking about it anymore, and that's why I'm not talking about it anymore. At some point, you move on. You let the music do the talking now."

Shortly before Ellefson was fired from MEGADETH, he released a statement on Instagram denying all social media chatter that he "groomed" an underage fan. He also filed a report with the police department in Scottsdale, Arizona alleging unlawful distribution of sexually explicit images of him by unknown offenders.

Mustaine — who formed MEGADETH with Ellefson in 1983 — released a statement on May 24, 2021 announcing the bassist's departure from the band. In the statement, Dave said: "We do not take this decision lightly. While we do not know every detail of what occurred, with an already strained relationship, what has already been revealed now is enough to make working together impossible moving forward."

In 2004, Ellefson filed an $18.5-million lawsuit against Mustaine, alleging the frontman shortchanged him on profits and backed out of a deal to turn Megadeth Inc. over to him when the band broke up in 2002. The lawsuit was eventually dismissed and Ellefson rejoined MEGADETH in 2010.

WHEN NOTHING REMAINS Signs To The Circle Music

WHEN NOTHING REMAINS Signs To The Circle Music

Swedish death-doom band When Nothing Remains has signed to The Circle Music for the release of their new album A Glimmer Of Hope.

The Circle Music said: “We are delighted to welcome When Nothing Remains, a very promising band from Sweden. The decision to walk together was made immediately when we heard some of the new songs which will be featured on the upcoming album A Glimmer Of Hope.

“Subversive and pitch-black doom metal through a magical gothic atmosphere, accompanied by abysmal vocals that recall the early days of Saturnus.

“If the three previous albums When Nothing Remains made their presence felt, then we can confidently say that A Glimmer Of Hope will be a real gem in their discography and in the general field of doom/death metal!”

Peter Laustsen of When Nothing Remains said: “We are proud to announce that we signed a deal with Greek label The Circle Music. We had some offers to choose between, but felt that The Circle Music (home of Lake of Tears, and Trail of Tears among others) was the right way to go. We would like to thank Maria for her strong dedication and belief in our music.”

When Nothing Remains is a Swedish doom/death metal band with members from bands such as Nox Aurea, The Cold Existence, Rimfrost, Draconian, Doom: VS.

The When Nothing Remains idea was born in late 2010 when Peter Laustsen and Jan Sallander wanted to create something very dark and emotional. In 2011, Jonas Toxen jumped in for the drums and Johan Ericson "Draconian, Doom VS, Shadowgarden" for the clean vocals, mixing and mastering.

ENEMY INSIDE Unleash "What We Used To Be" Single And Music Video

ENEMY INSIDE Unleash "What We Used To Be" Single And Music Video

Modern metal band, Enemy Inside, recently partnered with Reigning Phoenix Music (RPM), and their collaboration is off to a promising start with the release of a new single today.

The debut track, "What We Used To Be", takes listeners on a journey through a painful past with its synth-based vocal intro, urging them to let go of bad memories through heavy riffs and a haunting chorus. The accompanying music video, featuring vocalist Nastassja Giulia in an exorcism of toxic experiences, reinforces the song's powerful message.

"'What We Used To Be' deals with the topic of a relationship growing apart: whether it's a romantic relationship, a friendship, or the relationship with yourself. It's about realising and accepting that situations and people, even yourself, change, and there is no other way than to move on," underlines Nastassja.

Filmed by Jonas Sommer, the music video's script and story was written by the front-woman herself.

She adds, "We were aiming for a cinematic look. We wanted a video that looked more like a movie than a music video and we are really proud how the song and the video turned out."

Stream/purchase the track here, and watch the video below:

With their third, yet-untitled studio album coming up, Enemy Inside will embark on an 18-date European headline tour in early 2025 with support coming from Letters Sent Home. Info and tickets here.

RISING INSANE Share "Carousel" Single And Music Video

German metalcore act, Rising Insane, have released their new single "Carousel", marking the fifth track released off their new album Wildfires. The song is accompanied by a music video.

Singer Aaron Steineker comments: "'Carousel' is one of the songs on Wildfires that carries the most traces of the last 10 years of Rising Insane, and it's important to us to bring up something from those traces. This fact and the lyrical part of the song form an analogy: no matter how much we fight against it, in the end we are driven by the perceived mistakes or misbehaviour of others to make decisions that trigger a new series of conflicts. It's a perpetual cycle, like a carousel, until we consciously choose to be a change."

Rising Insane's fourth studio album, Wildfires, (out August 23 via Long Branch Records) takes an in-depth look at the consequences of our collective abstinence from empathy and challenges listeners to ignite their inner flame for change. It is an urgent call to break out of the darkness.

While Rising Insane remains true to their post-hardcore and metalcore roots on Wildfires, the band has evolved collectively and individually, clearly reflected in the new and fresh sound.

Steineker comments on Wildfires: "Over the last two years, I have felt that there is a huge source of strife lurking around every corner. All we have to do is pick up our cell phone and we're immediately thrown into a hate-filled sea of conflict, there's so much hate everywhere. You get the feeling that the world around us is on fire when you add war, global warming, inflation, and depression to the mix. That's how this album got the title Wildfires. Each song on the album is about a specific trouble spot, themes, and stories that have weighed on me while writing. Our goal is to create awareness through our music of how much we burden ourselves and each other instead of focusing on things that connect us and create positivity."

Wildfires will be available in the following formats:

Canada's TRENCH Announce Between Inverted Worlds Album; Video For "Dust To Bone" Feat. CITY AND COLOUR Posted

Canada's TRENCH Announce Between Inverted Worlds Album; Video For "Dust To Bone" Feat. CITY AND COLOUR Posted

Calgary's hardest band Trench - Jay Breen (vocals); Tony Chan (bass); Cole Young (guitar/electronics); and Tommy Chan (drums) - are stoked to announce their new album, Between Inverted Worlds. It arrives August 16 via New Damage Records. Pre-order it here.

The album boasts some killer features, including fellow Canadian band City And Colour, as well as hardcore heroes Comeback Kid and European noisemakers Cult Of Luna and fellow Canadians, Wake. See the complete tracklisting below.

Today, Trench share the video for new single "Dust To Bone" (Featuring City and Colour). Watch below.

"I've learned that the only way to grow artistically is to learn from mistakes and fully embrace making them," says Breen. "'Dust To Bone' is about picking up the pieces of past mistakes and reforming them into something positive. We had the idea of having Dallas Green's voice on a heavy song, so we set out to create something he would actually find interesting enough to be a part of. The song captivates all aspects of Trench - from emotional and beautiful parts to a crushing breakdown, this song has it all."

The song is moody yet majestically metallic and dynamic. It grabs you by the scruff and won't let go til the last note fades out. And Green's voice adds an unexpectedly gorgeous softness to an otherwise pummelling song and this element demonstrates just how brutal the song is.

The band previously shared the video for "Divided Between New Skin". Watch below. It was actually three singles in one: "Divided Existence", "Between Inverted Worlds", and "New Skin Protocol"

Between Inverted Worlds tracklisting:

"Divided Existence"
"Between Inverted Worlds"
"New Skin Protocol"
"Path Of Pain" (Feat. Comeback Kid)
"One Cut For Every Loss"
"Dust To Bone" (Feat. City And Colour)
"Chrome Sacrament" (Feat. Wake)
"My Cold Blood" (Feat. Cult Of Luna)
"Final Odyssey"
"Blossom III"

Here Is The First Look At METALLICA's JAMES HETFIELD In Upcoming Dark Western Thriller 'The Thicket'

Here Is The First Look At METALLICA's JAMES HETFIELD In Upcoming Dark Western Thriller 'The Thicket'

Tubi Films has released the first photos for its upcoming dark western thriller "The Thicket", which includes a role by METALLICA's James Hetfield. Check out the pictures below.

Based on Joe R. Lansdale's novel of the same name, "The Thicket" will be released in theaters on Friday, September 6.

Peter Dinklage plays Shorty, a bounty hunter enlisted to find a woman who has been kidnapped by a violent killer. The movie, which is set at the turn of the 20th century, follows Shorty and his fellow trackers as they travel into a violent and chaotic place known as the Big Thicket.

"The Thicket" also stars Juliette Lewis ("Yellowjackets"),Esmé Creed-Miles ("Hanna"),Levon Hawke ("The Crowded Room"),Leslie Grace ("In The Heights"),Gbenga Akinnagbe ("The Old Man"),Macon Blair ("I Care A Lot"),Ned Dennehy ("Peaky Blinders"),Andrew Schulz ("Infamous") and Arliss Howard ("Mank").

Production on the film took place last year with "Blitz" director Elliott Lester behind the camera and Christopher Kelly penning the script.

Lester told Collider about adding Hetfield to the film: "The casting of James Hetfield in 'The Thicket' is a story that feels almost destined. It all began with a dream — one morning I woke up with a clear vision that James had to be in the movie. James Hetfield, a Rock God, embodies a raw poetry that fit perfectly with the character we envisioned. From that moment, Peter Dinklage and I were relentless in our pursuit. We tried every possible avenue: his manager, mutual friends, anyone who could help us reach him. Our breakthrough came when writer/director Sacha Gervasi ['Anvil! The Story Of Anvil'], who had a connection to James, stepped in. Despite our efforts, we were unsure if James would even consider the role. We sent him the script, along with a Hail Mary, and waited. To our delight, within days we heard that James was interested. The meeting that followed confirmed our hopes. James could not have been more humble. He revealed that he had always wanted to do a dark western, aligning perfectly with our film's vision. From that point on, James was incredible. He was hard-working, diligent, and fully embraced his role with a passion that brought a unique intensity to the film. The journey with James has been extraordinary, and his presence truly elevates 'The Thicket' to a new level."

Back in 2019, Hetfield had a part in the Netflix thriller "Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil And Vile". That film followed the relationship between notorious serial killer Ted Bundy, played by Zac Efron, and his longtime girlfriend, played by Lily Collins, who at the time had no knowledge of the crimes. Hetfield played officer Bob Hayward, a no-nonsense Utah highway patrol veteran who was the first law enforcement officer to arrest Bundy in 1975 after pulling the killer over and discovering burglary tools in his car but wisely suspecting much worse. While Hetfield had played himself in other films and television productions, this was his first dramatic role taking on a different character.

Five years ago, Efron praised the METALLICA guitarist/vocalist's acting chops during an appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!", saying: "James Hetfield, to his credit, and absolutely nailed the part, he just crushed it. It's like he’s been acting his own life. He had no fear. He did a great job. I was ready to maybe give James Hetfield [an acting] tip, but he didn't ask for a single one. James Hetfield is the shit!"

U.K.'s WARGASM Taps COREY TAYLOR For New Single '70% Dead'

U.K.'s WARGASM Taps COREY TAYLOR For New Single '70% Dead'

Dynamic London, United Kingdom-based duo WARGASM (not to be confused with the cult 1980s Boston metal band of the same name) has released a new single featuring a guest appearance by SLIPKNOT's Corey Taylor. The track, titled "70% Dead", was recorded while WARGASM was on tour with Taylor on his solo run in the States.

WARGASM states: "We were on the road in the USA with Corey. [WARGASM's] Sam [Matlock] ended up jumping on a mic with him during his set and we just felt like the voices sounded right together. It totally made sense to do something fresh with the three of us and well… you don't ask, you don't get.

"Some OG fans might recognize the lyrics. This has been a long time coming. '70% Dead' is a cry-out at a world gone mad; war, disease, inequality. It feels like something is brewing.

"'Fuck me, what went wrong? / I'm sick of sleeping on the barrel of a loaded gun.'"

After touring with ENTER SHIKARI and LIMP BIZKIT at the end of 2022, WARGASM supported Taylor on his U.S. tour. They also performed at last year's Louder Than Life and Aftershock festivals.

In 2022, WARGASM unleashed "Explicit: The Mixxxtape". It piled up 10 million-plus streams, earned raves from the likes of Paper magazine, Loudwire (who hailed it as one of their "Best New Debut Rock + Metal Albums of 2022") and Revolver magazine who said "WARGASM don't just have the nu-metal sound, they have the swagger." Not to mention they have previously been featured on the covers of Alternative Press and Kerrang! Plus, they took home the first-ever "New Noise Award" at the 2022 Kerrang! Awards.

WARGASM are the climax of an orgy between heavy metal, electronic, rave, alternative, and industrial powered up by the friction of two gleefully insane creative insurgents Milkie Way and Sam Matlock. They honed a vital and visceral vision across early bangers such as "Spit.", "Rage All Over", "Salma Hayek" and "Scratchcard Feeling", paving the way for 2022's "Explicit: The Mixxxtape". Beyond reeling in over 10 million streams and counting, the latter earned the endorsement of icons such as Jonathan Davis of KORN and Fred Durst of LIMP BIZKIT who personally tapped the band to open a 2022 North American arena tour. They stand out the rare force of nature who could hold their own on tour with either Yungblud or Corey Taylor of SLIPKNOT. However, everything simply set the stage for their 2023 full-length debut album, "Venom". The duo deliver a shockingly catchy blast of horny and hypnotic heavy music as unpredictable as it is uncompromising. Its lineage can be traced to the big-screen genre mashing of the 1990s, yet it's spiked with a 21st century fury that could only belong to WARGASM.

About Somewhere Far Beyond Revisited:

Right on time with their show at 2024’s edition of Wacken Open Air, Blind Guardian proudly announce the release of Somewhere Far Beyond Revisited on August 2 which includes a complete re-recording of this classic as well as a live celebration of 1992’s Somewhere Far Beyond, a landmark record for Germany’s heavy metal titans. After three albums on No Remorse Records, it was the band’s major label debut via Virgin Records and opened the doors to the Japanese market resulting in a wider availability and presence on the global metal scene. After finding the right balance of speed, heaviness, melodies, drama, and irresistible choruses on 1990’s Tales From The Twilight World, Somewhere Far Beyond honed this approach to perfection, evolving further on a conceptual level and increasing Blind Guardian’s sonic range. On Somewhere Far Beyond the band experimented with keyboards, orchestrations, and folk elements, the latter manifesting in the group’s best-known song and live staple, "The Bard's Song (In The Forest)", whereas other tracks like "Ashes to Ashes", the rapid "Journey Through The Dark" or "The Quest For Tanelorn" connected well with previous mostly fast-paced albums yet offered an additional push in dynamics.

Fast forward 30 years! Prior to releasing the much lauded opus The God Machine in September 2022, Blind Guardian had been performing Somewhere Far Beyond in its entirety at Rock Hard Festival and Hellfest in Summer 2022 in front of tens of thousands of fans singing along to each track. Both shows were filmed and recorded professionally and aired via WDR and ARTE. For the limited triple-disc-edition of Somewhere Far Beyond Revisited the Hellfest material was newly edited by the band’s long-time videographer Dirk Behlau using additional multi-cam footage.

The idea of re-recording the album originated from the rehearsals for these shows as Hansi Kürsch explains in the detailed liner notes: “The original idea wasn’t to do a re-recording. When rehearsing for the anniversary gigs, corona hit and we couldn’t be certain that those shows would take place. We still wanted to celebrate the anniversary of the album and if we wouldn’t be able to include a live version, we initially thought we could at least record the rehearsals.”

Not 100% satisfied with those rough versions, Blind Guardian decided to go all in, knowing the risk of being frowned upon by fans who consider re-recordings utter blasphemy. “We tried to recapture what we did in 1992 but compensate youth with skillful experience, though in a hungry way. We never discussed any major changes but with over 30 years of experience, and our current line-up, those ingredients already add a new flavor to it.” With the basic tracks recorded in a live setting, Somewhere Far Beyond Revisited is leaner and more focused on impact in terms of guitar arrangements yet retains all the harmonies and melodies essential to the original. “We finally ended up with this cool hybrid version”, André adds. “We combined how we play the songs today, but at the same time, really tried to retain that speed metal spirit of the early 90s!”

SAMMY HAGAR: 'We Reached Out To ALEX VAN HALEN A Dozen Times' About Taking Part In 'The Best Of All Worlds' Tour

SAMMY HAGAR: 'We Reached Out To ALEX VAN HALEN A Dozen Times' About Taking Part In 'The Best Of All Worlds' Tour

In a new interview with Ultimate Classic Rock, Sammy Hagar once again discussed his upcoming summer 2024 tour with bassist Michael Anthony, guitarist Joe Satriani and drummer Jason Bonham that will focus largely on the music of VAN HALEN. The 2024 tour will come more than two years after Satriani revealed that he was approached about participating in a VAN HALEN tribute show with David Lee Roth and Alex Van Halen. That project never got off the ground, reportedly because Roth was "holding up" getting everything approved.

Regarding if there was any attempt made to see if Alex would be interested in taking part in "The Best Of All Worlds" prior to getting Bonham involved, Hagar said: "Mike and I reached out to Alex before we did this. We reached out to him a dozen times before this tour, in every way. E-mail, text message, phone call, message on the machine, okay? No response. No response. I mean, we made every offer to get together or to just talk or to have breakfast, lunch or dinner. Go to the studio and play. Come to my house or I'll come to your house. Go ride horses, go sit on the beach. What do you want to do? Let's just do something. Let's get together. And nothing."

Explaining that he and Alex Van Halen "don't have a relationship," Hagar added: "When the tour came, the first person we called and left all of the messages, sent all of emails, it was Alex Van Halen. Mike and I said, 'We're wanting to do this thing.' Alex's famous line to me [was], 'Sammy, we ain't getting any younger.' Mike and I said, 'Alex, we ain't getting any younger. We're going out and playing for the people. We're going to go honor the VAN HALEN catalog. Let's just get together and let's talk about it. Mike and I, we're going out, we're going to do this, Alex. Please join us. Let's be friends, let's bury the hatchet, whatever.' There was no response. I was saying, 'He'll come to a show, he's got to — in L.A. or something. I'm sure he'll come.' But no, no, he sold all of his equipment. That was his statement. That was like, 'ah, I ain't coming nowhere.'"

Hagar previously discussed the possibility of Alex taking part in "The Best Of All Worlds" last November during an appearance on SiriusXM's "Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk". At the time, he said: "Jason insisted upon, 'I will not say yes to do this thing until at least you get… Alex says yes or no.' Alex hasn't returned my call for five years. I've called, I've left messages, I've left texts, I've left e-mails.

"I don't think Al really wants to go out and play; otherwise they would have did it with Joe when they were thinking about it [back in 2021]," he continued. "And [VAN HALEN's manager] Irving Azoff called me [around that time in 2021] and said, 'Hey, would you do it? Somebody's out of their mind. You and Alex, I've gotta get you guys together.' I said, 'Fine.' He said, 'Reach out one more time.' I reached out one more time. No response.

"Alex never played with anybody ever except his brother," Hagar added. "He never jammed with anybody. The whole time we were in VAN HALEN, Mike and I would be out playing clubs with Eddie [Van Halen], jumping on stage on nights off. And Alex [would be] standing on the side of the stage [and looking on]."

Sammy also talked about the upcoming tour during an appearance on "The Howard Stern Show". "It's time. Nobody else is gonna do it," Sammy stated about performing songs from different eras of VAN HALEN. "If Dave [Lee Roth] goes out, he can't sing my stuff. [But] we can do a few of the early VAN HALEN songs. I have no problem with that; I did it when I was in VAN HALEN. This is really a celebration of all that, and we are the only ones who can do it."

Sammy continued: "We're gonna invite every musician in every town. First of all, whenever you play, if there's a guitar player in town, no matter what city it is, they come out to see Joe, just like they used to for Eddie [Van Halen]. So if we've got other guitar players, we'll get them involved, other singers, get them involved. If Alex Van Halen wants to jump up, if David Lee Roth wants to come out and join us, come on, motherfucker. You are welcome. This is about VAN HALEN."

Asked by Howard Stern what the odds are that Alex Van Halen would show up on the tour and "maybe join the celebration of his brother", Hagar said: "I would hope so. I reach out to Al about once a month for about five years now, and he doesn't get back to me… I call, I leave a voice message, I send a text and I send an e-mail. All three things. 'Al, give me a call.' Al's favorite line to me was always, every time he wanted to get back together, he would say, 'You know, Sam, we ain't getting any younger.' So I'd say, 'Hey, Al, we ain't getting any younger. Give me a call. Let me know. What do you wanna do? Come on over. Let's get together. Mike and I'll meet you somewhere.'"

Hagar and Anthony previously worked with Satriani in the supergroup CHICKENFOOT. They recorded two albums between 2009 and 2011 and toured across America but never performed any VAN HALEN material. More recently, Hagar and Anthony have played some of the VAN HALEN catalog with guitarist Vic Johnson and Bonham in SAMMY HAGAR AND THE CIRCLE.

Hagar mended his relationship with Eddie Van Halen months prior to the legendary VAN HALEN guitarist's October 2020 passing.

Hagar replaced Roth in VAN HALEN in 1985 and recorded four studio albums with the band — "5150", "OU812", "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge" and "Balance" — all of which topped the U.S. chart.

Sammy, Eddie, Alex and Michael last teamed up in 2004 for a U.S. summer tour. In exchange for taking part in the tour, Anthony reportedly had to agree to take a pay cut and sign away his rights to the band name and logo.

Produced by Live Nation, the 28-date "The Best Of All Worlds" tour will commence on July 13 in West Palm Beach, Florida and will conclude on August 31 in St. Louis, Missouri.

"We're gonna go deep into the VAN HALEN catalog," Hagar told "The Howard Stern Show". "If you're gonna go deep into the VAN HALEN catalog, you need Joe Satriani."

Although Hagar and Anthony normally play five or six VAN HALEN songs" on the road with THE CIRCLE, Sammy told Stern they are planning to only play "five or six of my songs" alongside VAN HALEN classics and deep cuts.

"When we go out next year in July, it will be almost exactly 20 years since Mike and I did a reunion with Ed and Al in '04," Hagar said. "Mike and I just said, 'We can't wait another 20 years. How long can I even sing these songs? How long can I do this stuff? I just thought it's time to serve the fans."

"There's stuff we're going to do on this next tour that we haven't played since that tour in 2004," Anthony added.

Regarding the challenge of learning legendary VAN HALEN guitarist Eddie Van Halen's parts, Satriani said: "There are things that are so iconic, you have to nail it. But if you go deep with what he did live, he never played the same thing twice. He kept evolving; he kept pushing. He'd do the recorded version a little bit, but then he moved on.

"It's a daunting task when you do the deep dive into what he did," he continued. "But it's good to start at the beginning, and then you just learn all his little improvs and you get the idea of what he was trying to do. It's thrilling; it's fun."

GREAT AMERICAN GHOST Release New Single “Forsaken”

GREAT AMERICAN GHOST Release New Single “Forsaken”

Great American Ghost approach their craft with a relentless sense of exploration. Consistently pushing the heavy music envelope since their inception in 2012, the band has steadily grown as a genre defying group amongst their peers in the metal and -core world. The band recently announced their signing to SharpTone Records that coincided with the release of “Hymn Of Decay,” their first new song and video since 2022 which introduced new members Grayson Stewart (guitar) and Anthony Laur (bass). Today, the band has shared another new single and video “Forsaken”.

“Forsaken” immediately pummels the listener with blast beats and buzz saw riffs. While the song rages intently from the second you push play, the arrangement carries through sonic twists and turns that highlight the band’s explorative writing style. The vocals on this tune spiral into a hellish cacophony of anguished screams before diving into a massive breakdown. The official video for “Forsaken” finds Great American Ghost giving a fiery performance.

On “Forsaken,” vocalist Ethan Harrison shares:

"This is the best song Great American Ghost has created up to this point in our career. This is a song I wrote from a place of hopelessness and nihilism. The world is getting worse by the second and the people meant to have our best interest in mind are doing nothing but enriching themselves while it burns. Something needs to change now or someday this will all end. That's what this song is about; the end"

Great American Ghost has always been built on the belief that nothing is off limits or taboo, with everything to be mined as an influence or used as a milestone to further an already sharpened sound. The promise of devastating music with extreme intent is fully realized on their latest release, ushering in a new era for their already impressive discography.

Great American Ghost is Ethan Harrison (vocals), Grayson Steward (guitar), Anthony Laur (bass) and Niko Gasparrini (guitar).

Wormwitch sets out to combine a melodic blackened death assault with the ferocity and attitude of crust punk and classic rock and roll, jettisoning the burdens of ceremony and pomp that dominate the genre today.

The album can be pre-ordered in various formats here.

The cover artwork for Wormwitch's eponymous record was created by Abomination Hammer and can be found below along with the tracklist.
