THOMEN STAUCH Pays Tribute To TINA TURNER With "We Don't Need Another Hero" Cover - "You Will Never Be Forgotten," Says Former BLIND GUARDIAN Drummer; Video

THOMEN STAUCH Pays Tribute To TINA TURNER With "We Don't Need Another Hero" Cover - "You Will Never Be Forgotten," Says Former BLIND GUARDIAN Drummer; Video

Singer, dancer, actress and author Tina Turner, often referred to as the "Queen Of Rock 'N' Roll", passed away on May 24 after a long illness. She was 83. Mentalist and former Blind Guardian drummer, Thomen Stauch, pays tribute to Turner with the new video below.

Says Thomen: "That was sad news yesterday, May 24th, 2023! Tina Turner has passed away at the age of 83 after a long illness. A few weeks ago I recorded a drum cover video of 'We Don't Need Another Hero', which I don't want to withhold from you any longer. This performance is dedicated to Tina Turner! I would have preferred to share it with you on a positive occasion, but unfortunately that's not the case. You were a legend when you were alive and even more so now. You will never be forgotten! You're simply the best! RIP, Tina Turner!"

WHITESNAKE Release Official Live Music Video For "Best Years"

WHITESNAKE Release Official Live Music Video For "Best Years"

Whitesnake returned in 2008 with Good To Be Bad, the band’s 10th studio album and its first in over a decade. Fans embraced the comeback, pushing the album into the Top 10 in the UK and flocking to shows on the band’s massive world tour. Today, album tracks like “Best Years” and “Summer Rain” have taken their place in the band’s live repertoire alongside global hits like “Here I Go Again” and “Still Of The Night.”

The band has released the official live video for the above-mentioned "Best Years". Watch below:

Whitesnake explores the group’s 2008 return with the legacy retrospective, Still Good To Be Bad. The collection is now available in different configurations. The first collection is a 4-CD/Blu-ray with two new versions of the original album (one remastered and the other newly remixed), a selection of rare and unreleased studio and live recordings from the period, and videos all the music videos, interviews, and electrifying live performances from the Good To Be Bad world tour.

Three other versions of Still Good To Be Bad are also available. The album’s 2023 Remix is released on vinyl as a double-LP and a single CD. Still Good To Be Bad also comes as a 2-CD set that includes the remixed and remastered versions of the album. The new alternate mixes also feature new background vocals from the “Hook City Harlots,” Cami Thompson, Misty Rae & Jackie Landrum, plus the “Hook City Horns” with Rick Metz on saxes and the trumpet of Joshua Reed.

Whitesnake founder and lead singer David Coverdale played an integral role in making the new collection, serving as its executive producer. In the set’s liner notes, Coverdale traces the creative spark for Good to Be Bad back to 2003 when he reconvened Whitesnake for a tour celebrating the band’s 25th anniversary.

“We went out for two months and came back nine months later, and I had a big smile on my face and felt really energized.... I thought—‘Wow! I’ve got thirty years of music here that I can go out and play, and I don’t have to promote a new record...I can just have fun out there.’”

The anniversary ended, but the tour buses kept rolling as Whitesnake remained in demand on the road. As a result, in 2006, the band released Live...In The Shadow Of The Blues, a concert album that also introduced four new studio recordings. Those songs raised fans’ hopes for a new Whitesnake studio album, the first since 1997’s Restless Heart.

Coverdale enjoyed a newly forged creative friendship with electrifying guitarist Doug Aldrich...After initially saying he wasn’t interested in new projects...after three years of touring, he felt the need for new music...not only for the fans, but also to reinvigorate himself.

He found the perfect writing partner with Doug Aldrich. Not only as a co-writer but, as a co-producer, too...

“Doug & I got on so well, I suggested we sit down with our acoustic guitars & see what unfolded...I was thrilled how effortless it was to create new Whitesnake music with him...”

So, it was that in 2007, Coverdale, guitarists Doug Aldrich and Reb Beach, keyboardist Timothy Drury, bassist Uriah Duffy, and drummer Chris Frazier began recording tracks for Whitesnake’s 10th studio album, Good to Be Bad. Celebrated by both fans and critics, the record was named “Album of the Year” at the 2008 Classic Rock Awards.

Still Good To Be Bad explores the creative process behind the record with 28 different mixes and alternate versions of album tracks, all but one of them previously unreleased. High points include “If You Want Me,” backed by the Hook City Harlots and Horns and a version of “All For Love” that features a different guitar solo by Aldrich. The collection also includes “Evolutions”, a disc of unreleased recordings that presents a guide through the genesis of each song, from initial ideas with rough vocal melodies, lyrics and riffs through to finished demos and full band production versions.

The Blu-ray delivers a variety of Whitesnake video footage, including live tracks from the band’s 2008 European tour, acoustic performances from the era, and an interview by Eddie Trunk. New songs like “Best Years,” “A Fool In Love,” and “Can You Hear The Wind Blow” come to life in these incredible live performances. The Blu-ray also features promo videos for “Ready To Rock” and “Lay Down Your Love.”

SIRENIA Release "Wintry Heart" Single And Performance Video

SIRENIA Release "Wintry Heart" Single And Performance Video

Symphonic metal unit, Sirenia, have revealed the third and final new single, entitled “Wintry Heart”. Ranking at the top of their genre for more than 20 years, the band will release their eleventh studio album, 1977, on May 26 via Napalm Records.

Fast-paced single “Wintry Heart” gives a bittersweet taste of early 90’s vibes, roaring guitars and synth melodies, exploring a new style like never before. The single comes with an exciting performance music video.

Morten Veland on “Wintry Heart”: "'Wintry Heart' is a powerful, melodic and more up-tempo song. I also find it to be very energetic - it's definitely one of the songs on the 1977 album that I really look forward to performing live. The chorus also has a great hook line. I hope you'll enjoy it!"

Captivating album opener “Deadlight” is followed by “Wintry Heart”, and “Nomadic” that represents Sirenia's characteristic dark and heavy side as shredding guitar riffs alternate with playful interludes while relentless drums and symphonic electronic elements go hand in hand with one another. “A Thousand Scars” marks a totally new fusion for Sirenia, as heavy symphonic tunes dressed as remarkable rock riffs and poppy rhythms dance together with the feathery light vocals of Emmanuelle. With the eerie and epic tunes of “Fading to the Deepest Black”, the song is reminiscent of their last album, Riddles, Ruins & Revelations (2021). Kicking off with vertiginous blast beats and a mesmerizing performance by Emmanuelle Zoldan, a warm vocal interlude by Morten Veland supports the song's stunning atmosphere before it leads into an impressive guitar solo. Following their operatic symphonic highs, the heavy side of SIRENIA is not forgotten and appears especially towards the end of their 11th record.

1977 will be available in the following formats:

- Digipak Album
- Digital Album

FOO FIGHTERS Share Another New Song, 'Show Me How', From Upcoming 'But Here We Are' Album

FOO FIGHTERS Share Another New Song, 'Show Me How', From Upcoming 'But Here We Are' Album

FOO FIGHTERS have unveiled "Show Me How", the third track to drop in advance of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Famers' eleventh album, "But Here We Are", due out June 2 on Roswell Records/RCA Records.

Featuring a guest vocal appearance by frontman Dave Grohl's daughter Violet Grohl, "Show Me How" is a serene dream pop number that stands in sharp contrast to its predecessors "Rescued" and "Under You".

The official "Show Me How" visualizer, directed by Tim Kellner, can be seen below.

The first new song to be released was "Rescued" — which has generated raves including "driven by a fresh sense of pathos and urgency" (The New York Times),"FOO FIGHTERS have never sounded more vital" (Consequence)," "one of the FOOS' most immediate, emotional songs" (Vulture),"delivers everything fans have come to know and love" (Revolver) and more.

A brutally honest and emotionally raw response to everything FOO FIGHTERS endured over the last year, "But Here We Are" is a testament to the healing powers of music, friendship and family.

Produced by Greg Kurstin and FOO FIGHTERS, "But Here We Are" is in nearly equal measure the eleventh FOO FIGHTERS album and the first chapter of the band's new life. Sonically channeling the naiveté of FOO FIGHTERS' 1995 debut, informed by decades of maturity and depth, "But Here We Are" is the sound of brothers finding refuge in the music that brought them together in the first place 28 years ago, a process that was as therapeutic as it was about a continuation of life.

"But Here We Are" track listing:

01. Rescued
02. Under You
03. Hearing Voices
04. But Here We Are
05. The Glass
06. Nothing At All
07. Show Me How
08. Beyond Me
09. The Teacher
10. Rest

FOO FIGHTERS played their first official concert with new drummer Josh Freese Wednesday night (May 24) at Bank Of New Hampshire Pavilion At Meadowbrook in Gilford, New Hampshire. The band launched the 21-song set with "Rescued" and performed three other cuts from the "But Here We Are" LP, "Under You", "Nothing At All" and the title track. The rest of the concert included the first performance of "Cold Day In The Sun" in five years, and Violet Grohl joining the band onstage for "Shame Shame".

FOO FIGHTERS will next perform this Friday (May 26) at the Boston Calling festival at the Harvard Athletic Complex in Boston, Massachusetts. There will also be a few other festival stops, including Bonnaroo in June, Festival D'Ete De Quebec in July, Outside Lands in August, the Ohana, also in August, and Chicago's Riot Fest in September.

The band revealed Freese as part of its new touring lineup on Sunday (May 21) during a pre-tour livestream called "Foo Fighters: Preparing Music For Concerts". Freese was unveiled as the drummer during the livestream after comedic cameos by Chad Smith of RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, Tommy Lee of MÖTLEY CRÜE and Danny Carey of TOOL.

Freese was most recently drumming for Danny Elfman but was recently replaced by Ilan Rubin. Freese was also touring with THE OFFSPRING up until last year, with former SUICIDAL TENDENCIES drummer Brandon Pertzborn stepping in to officially replace him a couple of weeks ago.

Freese replaces longtime FOO FIGHTERS drummer Taylor Hawkins, who tragically passed away in March 2022 at the age of 50.

Freese previously played with the FOO FIGHTERS at the tribute concerts to Hawkins in 2022.

Freese is a veteran session drummer who has performed with GUNS N' ROSES, A PERFECT CIRCLE, PUDDLE OF MUDD, NINE INCH NAILS, WEEZER, PARAMORE, THE REPLACEMENTS, Sting and THE VANDALS, among many others. He has also played more than 300 recordings ranging in genres from pop to rock to country.

Watch: AEROSMITH's BRAD WHITFORD Joins GODSMACK On Stage In Nashville

Watch: AEROSMITH's BRAD WHITFORD Joins GODSMACK On Stage In Nashville

GODSMACK was joined by AEROSMITH guitarist Brad Whitford on stage during GODSMACK's concert last night (Tuesday, May 23) at FirstBank Amphitheater in Franklin, Tennessee for covers of AEROSMITH's classic power ballad "Dream On" and THE BEATLES' "Come Together". Fan-filmed video of the performance can be seen below.

Back in July 2019, GODSMACK frontman Sully Erna paid tribute to AEROSMITH, crediting the legendary rockers with playing "an enormous role in sculpting me to become the musician I am today."

Erna made his comments afer attending an AEROSMITH concert in Las Vegas, where the iconic band was in the middle of its "Deuces Are Wild" residency.

Sully took to his Facebook page to share a few photos of the show and included the following message: "Some info you may or may not know about me... Seeing @aerosmith tonight with my Manager Paul in Vegas was such a walk down memory lane for both of us. Not only have we built the GODSMACK brand together over the years, but we're both #Boston boys and have been friends now for 30 years and grew up listening and studying this band since we were teenagers. We've been going to AEROSMITH concerts since we were 14 hrs old and AEROSMITH Rocks was literally the first album I ever bought. I even remember smoking my first joint to the song 'Last Child'.

"I've seen AEROSMITH at least 10 times throughout the years and the photo of @joeperryofficial inside the Live Bootleg Album holding up his B.C. Rich with his hair in front of his face and that blonde streak was single handedly the photo that made me want to grow my hair long and go from just being a musician to being a 'rockstar.' This band and their music has meant everything to me over the years and has played an enormous role in sculpting me to become the musician I am today. Their presence, attitude and musicianship is by far some of the coolest and iconic ever known.

"I don't know how much longer they'll go for, but I just feel grateful that their music has been embedded into my veins and have been a huge part of my life! Thank You @aerosmith for all the music and inspirations you've given all of us Rock Musicians over the last 50 years! Talk about 'Legends Rise'? These guys have risen, fallen, and rose again to become bigger and better than they were before. They've been on the top of that mountain for decades. And they continue to inspire all of us over and over again. Yes, we're still super fans! But it's also nice to know that I didn't waste the last 37 years of my life idolizing the wrong band. #proud to be #boston ! What a fun and emotional night!"

In 2018, Erna told Classic Rock magazine that AEROSMITH's 1976 album "Rocks" was a huge influence on him growing up. "I'd been a musician since I was three and a half years old, and I was raised on blues and more jazzy music," he said. "A friend played me 'Last Child' from 'Rocks'. I think it was the first time I smoked a joint, and it was a really life-changing point for me, because it really lured me into the world of rock. It was super-cool for a young kid."

JUDAS PRIEST's RICHIE FAULKNER: 'JAMES HETFIELD Is The Integrity Of METALLICA'

JUDAS PRIEST's RICHIE FAULKNER: 'JAMES HETFIELD Is The Integrity Of METALLICA'

In a new interview with RadioactiveMike Z, host of the 96.7 KCAL-FM radio program "Wired In The Empire", JUDAS PRIEST guitarist Richie Faulkner was asked when he first discovered METALLICA's music. He responded (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "I think it was [in my] early teens. When I was getting into heavier music, stuff like [JUDAS PRIEST's] 'Painkiller'; I was introduced to the 'Painkiller' record. I can't remember if it was 'Master Of Puppets' or '…And Justice For All'. I just remember that syncopated, heavy stuff from METALLICA. And, obviously, the flying V… [METALLICA frontman] James Hetfield is one of my top five guitar players. For a lot of people, it's lead guitar players, but one of mine is Hetfield, the way he crafts and plays riffs. And, obviously, in the early days, he played that white V. And, yeah, [he was] just a massive influence. He is, for me, the integrity of METALLICA. He's the frontman, the integrity, the mouthpiece. And I'm a huge METALLICA fan."

He continued: "Obviously, the new [METALLICA] record had come out. I haven't actually heard all of it yet. But I'm excited to hear it. I've heard some of the singles that they've released. And they're doing their thing now where they're releasing a video for every song and really creating a connection to each one. So, yeah, they've always been a band that goes against the grain, and I've admired them for that. But I love the music. I've always been a METALLICA fan."

When RadioactiveMike Z noted that Hetfield's downpicking playing technique is legendary, Faulkner concurred. "Yeah, I could never do that," Richie said. "I always look for ways of getting around it and making up excuses why I couldn't do it. And I don't really have an excuse, except that I'm a lazy boy. So I can't do that downpicking. But he's a master at it, and it definitely creates a sound for them."

Faulkner joined JUDAS PRIEST in 2011 as the replacement for the band's founding guitarist K.K. Downing.

In September 2021, Faulkner suffered an acute cardiac aortic dissection during PRIEST's performance at the Louder Than Life festival, just a short distance from Rudd Heart and Lung Center at UofL Health - Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. It took the hospital's cardiothoracic surgery team, led by Dr. Siddharth Pahwa and also including Drs. Brian Ganzel and Mark Slaughter, approximately 10 hours to complete the surgery, an aortic valve and ascending aorta replacement with hemiarch replacement.

After Louder Than Life, JUDAS PRIEST postponed the remainder of the U.S. dates on its 50th-anniversary tour, dubbed "50 Heavy Metal Years". The shows were rescheduled for March and April 2022.

Last September, Faulkner revealed that he underwent a second heart surgery in early August 2022 to fix "a hole in the repair."

As previously reported, Faulkner will sign copies of ELEGANT WEAPONS' debut album, "Horns For A Halo", on Saturday, May 27 at 5:00 p.m. at Grimey's in his hometown of Nashville, Tennessee.

For more information, visit Grimeys.com.

"Horns For A Halo" will be released on May 26 via Nuclear Blast. The LP was recorded with singer Ronnie Romero (RAINBOW, MSG),bassist Rex Brown (PANTERA, DOWN) and drummer Scott Travis (JUDAS PRIEST) and was helmed by acclaimed British producer Andy Sneap, who has previously worked with JUDAS PRIEST, ACCEPT, EXODUS and MEGADETH, among many others.

ELEGANT WEAPONS's current touring lineup consists of Faulkner, Romero, Dave Rimmer (URIAH HEEP) on bass and Christopher Williams (ACCEPT) on drums.

The headlining item at the auction was a lefty black Fender Stratocaster electric guitar, smashed by one of the most influential artists of all time, Kurt Cobain, during NIRVANA's seminal "Nevermind" era which sold for an astounding $595,000 nearly ten times its original estimate of $60,000. The reassembled but unplayable guitar signed by all three members of NIRVANA, Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl, with additional inscriptions to Mark Lanegan (of SCREAMING TREES) by Cobain that read: "Hell-o Mark! Love, Your Pal, Kurdt Kobain / Washed up rockstar" as well as the inscription Boddah Lives engraved to the neck plate (referring to Cobain's childhood imaginary friend) is housed in a black hard case with "Abort Christ" written on the top in white block letters and includes a white Ernie Ball guitar strap. Another NIRVANA highlight was a setlist for their April 17, 1991 performance at OK Hotel in Seattle, Washington which sold for $50,800, twelves times its original estimate of $4,000. Believed to be handwritten by Dave Grohl, the set list marked the band's debut performance of their breakthrough hit "Smells Like Teen Spirit" before its release. The list was written in pink marker on the back of a printed "Guitar Lessons With Tommy Rose" flyer advertisement and included songs such as "Big Cheese", "D-7", "Love Buzz", "About A Girl", "Immoodiuum", "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and "In Bloom". NIRVANA headlined this benefit concert with FITS OF DEPRESSION and BIKINI KILL, just five months before their seminal breakthrough album "Nevermind" was released. An oversized NIRVANA promotional poster for the 1991 "Nevermind" album, signed by all three NIRVANA band members additionally sold for $10,400.

Another sensational highlight was a circa 2002 Gretsch Irish Falcon electric guitar, stage-played by U2's Bono which sold for $238,125. The guitar signed by all four members of U2 was donated by Bono when he was honored as the MusiCares Person Of The Year in 2003. A devotee of the Gretsch 6196 Country Club, Bono commissioned ten Irish Falcon electric guitars from Gretsch in 2000.

Another guitar hero and his signature axe rocked the auction stage this weekend — Eddie Van Halen and his Charvel EVH Art Series 78 electric guitar, which sold for $114,300. The 2004 red, black and white striped instrument was stage-played by Eddie Van Halen during the final concert of VAN HALEN's 2007 and 2008 tour featuring David Lee Roth who was back in the lineup for the first time since 1985. The performance where this guitar was used on stage was part of Quebec City's Summer Festival on July 3, 2008.

Michael Jackson's one-of-a-kind, custom-made ensembles representing why he was not only The King of Pop but also The King of Style took center stage with the appearance of his custom made black-military-style-jacket with gold hardware embellishments, stage-worn by Jackson during the 1992-93 "Dangerous" world tour which sold for $117,000. Renowned designers Michael Bush and Dennis Tompkins designed Michael's looks for the tour, using leather and metal hardware for the costume's embellishments and surface design. Other notable MJ pieces included a military-style jacket worn by Michael Jackson to a 1992 media event ($53,975) and a custom-made space jumpsuit worn by Michael Jackson in his role as Commander Jackson, a space police officer in the 1993 Sega simulator ride film "AS-1 Scramble Training" ($35,750).

An arsenal of guitars from a behemoth of rock icons roared back onto the auction stage such as a circa 1987 candy apple red signature Aurora electric guitar from the personal collection of RUSH legend Alex Lifeson ($82,550); a 1973 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe electric guitar used by Lenny Kravitz in the early '90s during his "Let Love Rule" period and 1990 John Lennon memorial concert ($52,000); a right-handed Melody 500 acoustic guitar belonging to LED ZEPPELIN's Jimmy Page circa 1960s-1970s ($63,500); a 1971 Zemaitis resonator acoustic guitar, custom-made for Ronnie Lane ($50,800); a vintage 1959 Olympic white Fender Stratocaster electric guitar, owned and used by MÖTLEY CRÜE's Mick Mars from his early days with the band through 2002 ($45,500); a 2003 candy apple red custom Hamer K.K. Downing Vector electric guitar, used extensively by Downing live on stage with JUDAS PRIEST ($25,400); a circa 2015-2018 "cracked mirror" Ibanez Paul Stanley PS1CM electric guitar, stage-played by Stanley during KISS's 2017-2018 "Kissworld" tour ($11,700); and more.

The inimitable style and larger than life persona of The King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley, reigned once again this weekend with his oversized 18K Gold fire opal and diamond ring owned and stage-worn circa 1970s during his Las Vegas residency dazzling the auction stage at $45,000. Other items from the legendary icon included: Elvis Presley's black Ray Ban reading glasses ($11,700); a14K Gold "TCB" pendant necklace given by Presley to the singer's close friend Cliff Gleaves, circa 1970s ($13,000); his Stetson western hat worn in his role as "Joe Lightcloud" in the 1968 film "Stay Away Joe" ($22,225); a custom-made corduroy waist-jacket worn by Presley in his role as "Guy Lambert" in the 1967 film "Double Trouble" ($25,400) and more.

GHOST's TOBIAS FORGE Explains How He Goes About Covering Other Artists' Songs

GHOST's TOBIAS FORGE Explains How He Goes About Covering Other Artists' Songs

This past Friday (May 19),GHOST released "Phantomime", a five-song EP which sees the Swedish occult rockers offering takes on IRON MAIDEN's "Phantom Of The Opera", GENESIS's "Jesus He Knows Me", TELEVISION's "See No Evil", THE STRANGLERS' "Hanging Around" and Tina Turner's "We Don't Need Another Hero (Thunderdome)".

Speaking to France's FIP Metal about his approach to recording covers of other artists' songs, GHOST leader Tobias Forge said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "Sometimes it's almost deflating working with covers, because you get frustrated how easy they are sometimes. And then you're, like, 'Fuck, I wish I was this efficient.' But then again, it's going back to school — reshape a little bit of what you thought you knew.

"Every now and then we have done these cover EPs with GHOST," he continued. "To a certain degree, I guess they have been retrospectively covering what I've liked for a long time, but on the other hand, we've done ['I Believe' by] SIMIAN MOBILE DISCO, which is obviously not a song that I grew up listening to; I think I heard it on FIFA [in] '05 or something. And this time around I think I just wanted to do a little bit more rock-leniant… Obviously, you and Tina Turner in there; that might not have been necessarily a rock song. But I purposely decided to, 'I'm gonna deliver five rock songs that will somehow embody, I guess, the origins of where I come from.'

"One key ingredient for a song, in order for me to get the spark that I wanna cover it, is that it has something — I'm gonna use the word lightly, but 'missing.' Something that I can, in one way or another, reshape.

"'We Don't Need Another Hero', I've liked that song for, obviously, forever. And I heard that this song could be so much more — I'm not gonna say 'better', but a more massive… it could have more of a hard rock, arena rock sort of presentation.

"TELEVISION, I love both 'Adventure' and I love 'Marquee Moon' a lot; I've liked them for a long, long time. The production, especially on 'Marquee Moon', is very, very soft. The band sounds like they're sort of in a room like this, and I felt that we could definitely do a stand-up version of that, something that's gonna be more like THE ROLLING STONES 1982 on steroids and cocaine."

He added: "'Jesus He Knows Me', the original, is obviously very uptempo, but it sounds like they're playing it with flower sticks — very, very soft. And most of the things that I made my version of, or our version of, most of the things, the components are in the original song, but they're just played in a very, very subdued sort of [way]… That was the guiding light throughout the recording — just to make it as energetic possible.

"The IRON MAIDEN song, obviously, was very energetic in its original form, almost to the point where I would say, from a producer point of view, where I tend to wanna finetune things, I think that the original version might be a little bit too all over the place. So I felt like if I can structure a few things, then it can definitely be a different version. So where you wanted TELEVISION really drunk, I wanted the MAIDEN song to be a little bit more sobered up, or not on alcohol — maybe on amphetamine instead.

"I've always loved THE STRANGLERS. I've always liked that record, and I've always felt 'Hanging Around', it had that sort of stomp that I like… I guess I could have done other STRANGLERS songs, but I just liked the fact that it also had that sort of slight little… It mentions Christ, so it's, like, yeah, okay, so it has a little bit of a religious flirt. So that checks the box; it makes it GHOST-ified."

"Phantomime" track listing:

01. See No Evil (TELEVISION)
02. Jesus He Knows Me (GENESIS)
03. Hanging Around (THE STRANGLERS)
04. Phantom Of The Opera (IRON MAIDEN)
05. We Don't Need Another Hero (Thunderdome) (Tina Turner)

GHOST is no stranger to covers, having previously tackled material originally written and recorded by THE BEATLES ("Here Comes The Sun"), ABBA ("I'm A Marionette"), DEPECHE MODE ("Waiting For The Night"), Roky Erickson ("If You Have Ghosts"), METALLICA ("Enter Sandman"), PET SHOP BOYS ("It's A Sin") and EURYTHMICS ("Missionary Man"), among others.

This past February, GHOST revealed details of its upcoming "Re-Imperatour" summer 2023 U.S. tour with special guest AMON AMARTH. Produced by Live Nation and FPC Live, the 27-date trek kicks off on Wednesday, August 2 in Concord, California at Concord Pavilion, with stops in Salt Lake City, Chicago, Cincinnati, Austin and more before wrapping up with the band's Monday, September 11 return to the Kia Forum in Los Angeles.

GHOST is continuing to tour in support of its latest album, "Impera", which sold 70,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in its first week of release to land at position No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart. It marked the third top 10 album — and fifth top 40-charting set — for the Swedish act. The 12-song effort was produced by Klas Åhlund and mixed by Andy Wallace.

"Impera" landed at position No. 1 in Germany and Sweden, No. 2 in the U.K., Netherlands, Belgium and Norway, No. 3 in Australia, No. 5 in France and Ireland, and No. 20 in Italy.

Forge worked on the follow-up to 2018's "Prequelle" with Åhlund and Swedish co-writers Salem Al Fakir and Vincent Pontare, whose credits include Madonna and Lady Gaga.

In January, GHOST released a new version of its song "Spillways" featuring a guest appearance by DEF LEPPARD singer Joe Elliott.

"Spillways" is taken from "Impera", which was released in March 2022.

CALEB SHOMO On Upcoming BEARTOOTH Album: 'There's A Chance This Is The Best Record I'll Ever Write'

CALEB SHOMO On Upcoming BEARTOOTH Album: 'There's A Chance This Is The Best Record I'll Ever Write'

In a new interview with HardDrive Radio host Lou Brutus, BEARTOOTH frontman Caleb Shomo spoke about the progress of the recording sessions for the band's upcoming fifth studio album. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "It is fully finished, turned in. I've been working on it for a very long time. I started working on it. [Last year's single] 'Riptide' was the first song I did for it, and, obviously, that's been out for a long time now — like eight, nine months. The first real, real intense writing session specifically for it was in late February, early March of '22. I went out to Los Angeles, and [recent single] 'Sunshine!' was the first song I wrote out there.

"It's so hard to put into words, what it is," he continued. "I think it's just one of those things that until people hear it, they're not really gonna get it. But it is very much a record for the people who have been following the story.

"Like I've kind of talked about, I've tried to make it, intentionally for a long time now, that these first five albums are kind of one big story and the story of my 20s. And it's all very linear. And the way it ends is amazing. It's crazy and not a happy ending to it. But the theme of the album as a whole is definitely a lot more hopeful.

"It was written during and after me really making all those big changes in my life and focusing on mental health and physical health and all of that," Caleb revealed. "And it's just manifested into a super-unique record. I did most of it in Los Angeles. I did a lot of it on tour. I mixed it kind of in Los Angeles and New York. I just finished — I mastered it at the Hit Factory, like finished the mix and master there not too long ago. I just went out and did a whole label showcase for it. I brought 'em out and explained the record and played it for 'em.

"We just have so many cool things coming up. I just cannot wait — cannot wait."

Shomo also talked about the sequencing of the songs on the new BEARTOOTH album, explaining: "There were certain things, going into this record, that I knew I wanted to do and I knew was important to the sequence. And honestly, in the sequence, there's just a whole story — it's just my last about 14, 15 months of my life; maybe 16 now. It's just that. It's just explaining those emotions and those feelings throughout the songs and through the highs and the lows.

"The beginning of the record is kind of trying to captivate these extreme highs of when I quit drinking and all my chemicals are realigning and my body is kind of starting to work better again and all this stuff. I had this three-month crazy, crazy high that I was on because of that. And that's kind of how it starts. And the middle of the record, it's kind of about that leveling out and having to deal with some really big things that happened in my life and dealing with the loss of somebody very important to me, and I discuss that. And then it kind of wraps up at the end with… I don't really wanna give away the ending, but I don't think it's at all what people would expect out of a BEARTOOTH record — in a very good way.

"I've never been more proud of any piece of work I've ever done. And I hope this isn't the case, but I think there's a chance this is the best record I'll ever write. And that's not to slight myself, but I just mean with my circumstances that I've been going through.

"This last year has been the most pivotal year of my entire life, even aside from all of the things I've done in my musical career and whatnot, just for me personally," Caleb added. "Honestly, during 'Below' and that kind of era, and even before that, I always kind of had it in the back of my mind, 'I'm probably gonna be dead in my mid-30s, late 30s of either suicide or alcohol related' or I don't really know. But I didn't have any self-love. And that has all completely shifted. And there's been a lot of work that went into that. And getting to explain that on a record just made for this incredibly unique thing. And obviously, I hope it is not my… I think I'm only getting started. But I think that it is a completely different animal — one hundred percent different animal. Obviously it's still a BEARTOOTH record and it's still me. But this is just kind of me showing the world what I'm fucking capable of. And I'm very proud of it."

BEARTOOTH was recently nominated for a Libera Award for "Best Heavy Record" for the 2022 hit single "Riptide", which has garnered over 20 million streams to date. They also wrapped an 18-date, sold-out tour of Europe, where they headlined some of their biggest shows to date, including the iconic Wembley Arena. It marked the band's most successful overseas run in its history so far.

Last month, BEARTOOTH kicked off a 38-date U.S. co-headline tour alongside TRIVIUM, which will include a triumphant return home at Sonic Temple festival in Columbus, Ohio. The band will follow the co-headliner with trips to Australia and Europe, while concluding 2023 with an appearance at Blue Ridge Rock Festival in Alton, Virginia.

BEARTOOTH has released four albums thus far: "Disgusting" (2014),"Aggressive" (2016),"Disease" (2018) and "Below" (2021).

The Ohio act recently released a deluxe edition of "Below". "Below Deluxe" is expanded to include 32 tracks. For this edition, BEARTOOTH added two new bonus tracks, "Fighting Back" and "Permanently Sealed", as well as a refreshed version of current radio single "Skin (Alternate Universe Version)", which mixes acoustics and electrics. It also includes the full, 17-track live recordings from the "Live From The Journey Below" livestream, recorded at the historic Clyde Theatre in Fort Wayne, Indiana in July 2021. An exclusive 52-track "Special Video Edition" Apple eMix bundle includes all the official videos plus the videos from "Live From The Journey Below".

ORCHID’S CURSE Streaming New Single “Dead Idols”

ORCHID’S CURSE Streaming New Single “Dead Idols”

Since forming in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in late 2005, Orchid’s Curse has positioned itself at the forefront of the highly underrated East Coast metal scene in Canada. They ensure that every show leaves them drained of all they had and every album is created with the most care and the best team they can find. This determination and attention to detail is what makes their new EP The Decay a melodic death album you’ll definitely want in your rotation.

The second single is “Dead Idols”, which the band details:

“Unlike the opening track, ‘Better Men’, this song gets right into it from the opening note. It is a four-minute melodic death and thrash-inspired banger. Lyrically this song explores society’s idolizations of people who may not deserve the adoration.”

Juxtaposed against the atmospheric opener and the sludgy and experimental track that follows, “Dead Idols” is yet another display of varied influences brought together seamlessly with care and dedication. In the early days, the band had more of a standard, mid-2000s metalcore sound. With each new release, the band has continued to progress and refine its sound. With “The Decay”, Orchid’s Curse continues this trend incorporating a multitude of sounds and influences across the heavy metal spectrum and beyond.

Over the course of their career, Orchid’s Curse has performed and toured with some of their favourite bands including 3 Inches of Blood and Goatwhore. Their ferocious passion is remarkable and no one should sleep on a chance to see them live. They are recommended for fans of At the Gates, The Black Dahlia Murder, and Burnt By The Sun.

Album preorder is available on Bandcamp.

Musically, much of the new material seems more furious and wild, although melody and harmony will again form the cornerstone of the almost 50-minute album. FROZEN LAND To Release Out Of The Dark Album In June; "Señorita" Music Video Posted

FROZEN LAND To Release Out Of The Dark Album In June; "Señorita" Music Video Posted

Five long years since the band's latest, self-titled offering, Finnish power metal masters, Frozen Land, return with a brand new studio album, entitled Out Of The Dark. The album will be released on June 16 via Massacre Records, the pre-sale is available here.

Out Of The Dark is basically a 7-song cohesive ensemble in the traditional power metal genre. But on the last two tracks it gets even more exciting! It's not a secret, Tuomas has a perversion for 90's Eurodance, and on the last album the band already covered E-types "Angels Crying". Now, the band even created their own songs mixing Eurodance and metal. But, don't take it too seriously... Frozen Land certainly doesn’t. Let's give ear, following a previously-released, first single, the album opening track "King’s A Bitch", today, Frozen Land have shared a music video for the song "Señorita".

"This is the most meaningful track in Frozen Land's discography," the band comments. "The tune and lyrics came to Tuomas after consuming about 0.7l of vodka. It was an awesome night, the birth of 'Señorita'. They say the northern star shined extra bright that night. We feel that the song is our "baby Jesus", actually. From now on we celebrate the birthday of the song giving presents to each other. A little 'Señorita' doll is also made and then crucified on a small cross."

Find the video for "Señorita" below.

Apart from the band's Eurodance affairs, Out Of The Dark is old-school power metal – period. It is a wet dream for everybody who started listening to power metal in the 90's. No fillers, no non-catchy choruses, and no uninteresting guitar solos guaranteed. The album was mixed by Nino Laurenne and Juho Mäntynen at Sonic Pump Studios, and was mastered by Svante Forsbäck at Chartmakers Studios.

Exclusive: KINELL Feat. SAIGON KICK, ACTION CITY BLACKOUT Members Premieres “Take It All” Lyric Video

Exclusive: KINELL Feat. SAIGON KICK, ACTION CITY BLACKOUT Members Premieres “Take It All” Lyric Video

Kinell formed as a challenge: Can you write and record original songs in the spirit and style of a band you love and still create something new? Saigon Kick bassist Chris McLernon and Action City Blackout guitarist Collin DeBruhl wanted to find out, starting with Thin Lizzy, Irish-born rockers who rumbled through the ‘70s and ‘80s on a mix of catchy songs and raffish charm that resonated on both sides of the Atlantic and influenced countless musicians. Check out the fruit of those efforts with single and lyric video for “Take It All” – premiered exclusively through BraveWords!

After demoing a handful of tracks, McLernon and DeBruhl had the makings of a forward-looking sound that built on classic trademarks: twinned guitars, rock ‘n’ roll bravado, irresistible hooks and a poet’s ear for lyrics and mood. They had a name, Kinell, a shortened version of an expression you’ve probably uttered yourself in moments of amazement or annoyance.

Seeking to fill out the rhythm section, Kinell enlisted a revolving quartet of phenomenal drummers: Barry Kerch (Shinedown), Ricky Sanders (Saigon Kick, STA), Eric Rickert (Souls Harbor, Skin Tight) and Marc Danzeisen (Riverdogs, Little Caesar), playing as only they could and collectively giving the songs punch and swing.

The result is Kinell’s energized and outgoing debut, Crash. Burn. Rebirth Produced by McLernon and mixed by multiplatinum producer Eric Bass, Crash. Burn. Rebirth. celebrates the past without being trapped by it. Order the album on Bandcamp.

Original SAINT VITUS Bassist MARK ADAMS Dead At 64

Original SAINT VITUS Bassist MARK ADAMS Dead At 64

Original SAINT VITUS bassist Mark Adams has died after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. He was 64 years old.

Adams's passing was confirmed by SAINT VITUS guitarist Dave Chandler, who took to his social media to write: "This is the hardest thing I've ever had to write. I found out last night. I can't say it out loud. I'm heartbroken to inform everyone that my best friend and co - founder of SAINT VITUS Mark Adams has passed away. The details are vague, as I haven't actually spoken with the family yet. He left us May 23 2023 peacefully in his sleep. I'm trying to contact anyone in the family to find out more.

"Mark was the best person I've ever met. He was kind to everyone, even those who did him wrong. Never had a bad word to say about anyone. Always found the good in everything no matter how bad it was. A great guy to be around. Nothing will ever be the same.

"God bless you my dear friend. I love you

"Mark Anthony Adams. 1958 - 2023."

Adams had been absent from SAINT VITUS's recent tours due to his illness. Playing bass for the group has been former CROWBAR and current DOWN bassist Pat Bruders.

SAINT VITUS began in the year 1978, when Adams, Chandler and drummer Armando Acosta started rehearsing. After trying out two other singers, the band finally settled for vocalist Scott Reagers under the designation TYRANT. In August 1979 the quartet played their first show and in 1980 their name was finally changed to SAINT VITUS. Reportedly this move was inspired by the BLACK SABBATH song "St. Vitus' Dance", taken from the "Volume 4" album (1972).

The eponymous debut album "Saint Vitus" had been released in the same year and was quickly followed by the second full-length "Hallow's Victim" (1985) and an EP titled "The Walking Dead" (1985). With thrash metal on a furious rise, the ultra-heavy sound of SAINT VITUS was mainly enjoyed by connoisseurs of doom and a dedicated underground following. This might have been one of the reasons for Scott Reagers to part from the band in 1986. His unexpected move turned out to be hardly a problem for the band as they recruited Scott "Wino" Weinrich from THE OBSESSED, who is considered as the ultimate voice of SAINT VITUS by a clear majority of their adherents.

When Reagers left, Dave Chandler had already written most of "Born Too Late" (1986). This album gained the Americans growing attention in the Metal underground especially overseas. The anthemic title track is considered be one of the great doom hymns by many fans.

The EP "Thirsty And Miserable" (1987) followed, which featured a BLACK FLAG cover version of the same name, but "Mournful Cries" (1988) was still going to be the last album for SST Records. All this hard work during the previous years started to pay off. With their aptly named fifth full-length "V" (1989) now released on the famous German doom label Hellhound Records and the live recording "Live" coming out a year later, interest started to grow considerably, although at first in continental Europe, but soon after in England as well. Just as the horizon was brightening for the Godfathers of Doom, Wino decided to leave SAINT VITUS and reform THE OBSESSED in 1990, which turned out to be a serious blow.

Wino was first replaced by Christian Lindersson from Swedish musical and spiritual brothers COUNT RAVEN. With him at the microphone SAINT VITUS recorded "C.O.D." (1992),which was produced by Don Dokken and gained high critical acclaim. Despite the warm welcome received, the band remained largely inactive after this release.

Two years later, SAINT VITUS reunited with their Reagers. This led to the again much applauded album "Die Healing" (1995). It might have been the right time for the group to reap the harvest of all the amazing songs that they had sown, but due to severe health problems of Reagers, their European tour had to be prematurely ended and that seemed to be the end of the SAINT VITUS story for a long time, much to the dismay of their loyal and by then many followers.

At the time nobody could have foreseen that April 29, 2009 in Stuttgart, Germany would mark Acosta's final performance with SAINT VITUS. After this last show in Europe, the band returned to the States as planned. There Amando's multiple serious health issues were continuing to take their toll on him, and with great sadness on November 25, 2010 SAINT VITUS received the painful news that their longtime friend and band mate had passed away.

When SAINT VITUS played their massive show at Hellfest in France, the crowd witnessed a new member on the drum stool. Henry Vasquez, who had already joined Dave Chandler on his project DEBRIS INC. made his debut there and remained with the band from that day on.

In 2012, SAINT VITUS signed to Season Of Mist, which released "Lillie: F-65". Seventeen years after their previous album and nine years after their reunion, SAINT VITUS were returning with a masterpiece that cemented their status as true icons of doom. "Lillie: F-65" is graced with the deeply resonant vocals of Weinrich who had rejoined the fold to record an album with the band for the first time since the glorious "V" (1989) and whom many consider to be the classic SAINT VITUS vocalist.

Parkinson's disease is a degenerative disorder of the central nervous system. It is mostly characterized by the trembling of hands, imbalance while walking and constant involuntary fidgeting of the body.

There is no cure for Parkinson's disease, but medications, surgery and multidisciplinary management can provide relief from the symptoms.

Parkinson's disease has been affecting many musicians in recent years. Singers Linda Ronstadt and Neil Diamond suffer from it, and in February 2018, MR. BIG drummer Pat Torpey died from complications of Parkinson's disease at the age of 64.

JUDAS PRIEST guitarist Glenn Tipton was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease nine years ago — after being stricken by the condition at least half a decade earlier — and ended up sitting out touring activities in support of PRIEST's latest album, "Firepower".

TESTAMENT's ALEX SKOLNICK To Sit Out European Tour Dates; PHIL DEMMEL To Step In

TESTAMENT's ALEX SKOLNICK To Sit Out European Tour Dates; PHIL DEMMEL To Step In

TESTAMENT guitarist Alex Skolnick will sit out some of the band's spring/summer 2023 European tour dates in order to tend to a family emergency. He will be replaced on the trek by former MACHINE HEAD and current VIO-LENCE guitarist Phil Demmel.

Earlier today (Wednesday, May 24),Skolnick released the following statement via social media: "Dear Friends, a few days ago, I sent a late night 'family emergency' email to the band. The hour was 3am. I was at my mother's hospital bedside, in a tiny chair, still in stage clothes, a soft guitar case crammed in the corner (I'd come straight from my gig downtown). Thankfully, things have improved somewhat, knock on wood, and my mom's out of the Emergency Room, in more comfortable surroundings at the hospital, with release in the (hopefully) not too distant future. It's a good thing I happened to be home during such a turbulent week.

"At the same time, it's become very clear how many urgent matters need hands-on attention by yours truly, in light of all this. All of which to is to say that, unfortunately, there is no way to avoid TESTAMENT's upcoming European tour being affected.

"At least there is protocol for these situations. At this point, TESTAMENT had done an untold number of tours with bands in which one or more band members have had to be filled in for, most often for family issues (which become more frequent for everyone as life goes on). And having assessed this situation, it seems to make the most sense - assuming things continue in a present positive direction - for me to sit out part of this current tour and rejoin approximately mid-way. While I hate to miss/cancel shows (and never have, as far as I can remember),family first, as they say.

"Please know that the entire TESTAMENT band/crew/mgmt has been above and beyond in terms of understanding, empathizing and allowing me all the time I need. There's been no pressure and this is a plan I'm entirely on board with. There is plenty of gratitude on my end.

"I'm also grateful to my sub for these dates, Phil Demmel (ex-MACHINE HEAD). If bands are families, he is our 'Cousin Phil.' We have shared stages at NAMM and the with METAL ALLEGIANCE and he and Chuck [Billy, TESTAMENT singer] go back to their early youth. In recent years, Phil has become like Winston Wolf (from 'Pulp Fiction'),the guy you call in a pinch, whether you're SLAYER, LAMB OF GOD (for guitar or bass),OVERKILL and even vocals in JOURNEY - ok that's not true (but there is a funny meme about that). Eric Peterson will also be stepping in for some of my sections as well. Having played with both, I just know these guys will sound fantastic together, like a thrash MAIDEN. Will it sound like me? No and it shouldn't.

"One of my biggest honors was being a fill-in (one of four) for the late, great Allan Holdsworth, with his own band shortly after his passing, at a show he‘d been slated to play. All of us agreed - don't try to be him (no one can!),just be YOU. And that's how this is going to be. Think of these shows as unique, one-of-kind and worth going out of the way for. I'm looking forward to watching clips online

"Enjoy this temporary version of the band (which will be great) and don't worry - you'll have me to put up with again soon enough.

"Thanks for understanding, and see you all shortly."

Demmel's appearance with TESTAMENT will mark his fourth high-profile fill-in gig in five years. Demmel stepped in for SLAYER guitarist Gary Holt for four European shows in the fall of 2018 after Gary returned home to be with his dying father. Demmel also subbed for Dave Linsk at OVERKILL's November 13, 2021 concert at The Wellmont Theater in Montclair, New Jersey and on the band's spring 2022 U.S. tour. More recently, Phil stepped in for Willie Adler on a number of international LAMB OF GOD shows. He also filled in for LAMB OF GOD's John Campbell when the bassist had to miss a couple of shows on "The Metal Tour Of The Year" in order to "take care a family matter back home."

In a February 2022 interview with BLABBERMOUTH.NET, Demmel discussed how he became such an in-demand hired gun. "The SLAYER thing happened within 24 hours of me quitting MACHINE HEAD," he said. "I think [SLAYER drummer] Paul Bostaph's girlfriend knew that MACHINE HEAD was done and knew that I was home, so they reached out for that. As the urban legend goes [laughs], I had three hours to learn 19 songs. It was pretty successful; a fill-in trip, one of the higher-profile things you can imagine — SLAYER on their final world tour. I filled in for my buddies in NONPOINT, too. The OVERKILL gig was more about me and Bobby [Ellsworth, vocals] doing the BPMD record together [2020's 'American Made']. We're familiar and I got the rep of being able to learn songs pretty quick. The METAL ALLEGIANCE, guys, too. I'll play 25 songs with them in a night. It's one of those quirky things where I can learn songs pretty quickly and I can pick them up pretty quick."

Demmel was then asked whether his nerves for the LAMB OF GOD and OVERKILL gigs were on the same level as playing with SLAYER. "I was pretty confident with the OVERKILL songs," he said. "We had three good rehearsals. I didn't rehearse with SLAYER at all. I played two songs at a soundcheck. [Laughs] 'Okay, we're good!' It's like, 'Fuck!' OVERKILL, we had a couple of days of rehearsal. I had two and a half, three weeks to prepare for that. I felt pretty strong with that.

"The LAMB OF GOD gig, that was a big deal. They had approached me before their MEGADETH States tour last summer and wanted me to learn both parts, Mark [Morton] and Willie's, just in case one got sick, they didn't want to cancel their tour. That's where I am: I'm their bullpen guy when one of them can't make the shows, I'm ready to go. It's such a high-profile band. I didn't want to go out there and blow it. I wanted the band to sound good. I wanted to keep that pride in what they are and not have a drop-off. Willie and I play differently. There's different vibrato in our left hand and pinkies. I didn't want there to be a drop-off. I wanted people to be not bummed that he wasn't there. And that's not a slag on Willie. If I went to see one of my favorite bands, let's say QUEENSRŸCHE. I want to see [Chris] DeGarmo, I want to see Michael Wilton. No slight against the other dudes, but they better fucking bring it if they're not going to be out there."

A message from Alex Skolnick:

RANCID Releases New Single 'Devil In Disguise'

RANCID Releases New Single 'Devil In Disguise'

Berkeley, California punk stalwarts RANCID have released the official music video for their new single "Devil In Disguise". The track is taken from their tenth studio album, "Tomorrow Never Comes", which is due for a June 2 release via Epitaph. The follow-up to 2017's "Trouble Maker" was produced by longtime collaborator, BAD RELIGION guitarist and Epitaph founder Brett Gurewitz.

At a whopping 850 million catalog streams to date, fans and critics alike seem to agree that RANCID's brand of high-impact, no-frills punk still flows abundantly in their blood, while easily translating to a modern audience. Now embarking on their tenth full-length effort, this is evident throughout "Tomorrow Never Comes". With its sixteen blistering tracks barely making the two-and-a-half-minute mark, the album boasts the same gritty, straight forward punk-with-a-purpose that the world just can't get enough of.

On their last studio album, "Trouble Maker", Pitchfork explored the band's themes of "contemporary political turmoil–blue-collar identity crises, tense demonstrations, the ever-present shadow of the Man — through the prism of their rebellious past, a little more wizened but just as rambunctious as ever."

Punk News also raved, "RANCID makes a radical left turn from the norm, pushing far past the boundaries, not just of punk, but of the traditional rules of music itself, creating the most original sound to come out of any musical artist since Beethoven."

Throughout the last three decades, RANCID has remained fiercely independent, never losing their loyalty to their community or each other. Their music confronts political and social issues, while balancing personal tales of love, loss, and heartbreak with attitude. By carrying on the traditions and spirit of the original punk rock bands that came before, Rancid has become a legend and inspiration to punk bands that have come after.

Watch: MR. BUNGLE Rejoined By Drummer HANS WAGNER At Portland Concert

Watch: MR. BUNGLE Rejoined By Drummer HANS WAGNER At Portland Concert

Hans Wagner, who played drums for MR. BUNGLE between 1987 and 1989, rejoined his formed band on stage this past Sunday (May 21) at the McMenamins Crystal Ballroom in Portland, Oregon to perform a song called "Fart In A Bag" for the first time in three and a half decades. The track was originally featured on MR. BUNGLE's second demo, 1987's "Bowel Of Chiley".

After leaving MR. BUNGLE, Wagner reportedly moved to Oregon and played for VILLAGE IDIOT and later with SWEATY NIPPLES.

MR. BUNGLE, which recently completed its first post-pandemic tour dates as part of the Ipecac Recordings' "Geek Show", has announcde an eastern swing to its slate of 2023 outings, with new performances added for several cities, including New York, Boston, and Toronto.

The dates, which mark the band’s first shows on the East Coast (with the exception of New York City) in 23 years, find MR. BUNGLE once again featuring their "The Raging Wrath Of The Easter Bunny" demo lineup (Mike Patton, Trevor Dunn, Trey Spruance, Scott Ian and Dave Lombardo).

MR. BUNGLE released "The Raging Wrath Of The Easter Bunny Demo" in 2020, an album that saw the Eureka, California-born band record songs from their 1986 cassette only demo. The collection's release was preceded by seven February 2020 shows (Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York). The newly revamped version of the seminal band sees Trevor Dunn, Mike Patton and Trey Spruance joined by Scott Ian (ANTHRAX, S.O.D.) and Dave Lombardo (DEAD CROSS, ex-SLAYER, SUICIDAL TENDENCIES). Rolling Stone dubbed the album "a feast of ingenious riffs… and pure manic energy," Stereogum said "MR. BUNGLE are reliving their very earliest days and kicking a whole lot of ass in the process," and Decibel declared it "one of the best thrash records of the year."

MR. BUNGLE was formed in an impoverished lumber and fishing town by a trio of curious, volatile teenagers. Trey Spruance, Mike Patton and Trevor Dunn beget the amorphous "band" in 1985 up in Humboldt County, California, sifting through a variety of members until around 1989 when they settled on a lineup that managed to get signed to Warner Bros. Records. No one really knows how this happened and it remains a complete mystery that even the algorithms of the Internet can't decode. Up until 2000, they released three albums ("Mr. Bungle" in 1991, "Disco Volante" in 1995 and "California" in 1999),toured a good portion of the Western hemisphere and avoided any sort of critical acclaim. Some argue that the band subsequently broke up but there is also no proof of this. What is true is that they took 20 years off from performing under said moniker while they pursued various other music that, in contrast, paid the rent.

HALESTORM Teams Up With Country Singer ASHLEY MCBRYDE For New Version Of 'Terrible Things'

HALESTORM Teams Up With Country Singer ASHLEY MCBRYDE For New Version Of 'Terrible Things'

HALESTORM has teamed up with country singer Ashley McBryde for a reimagined version of the band's song "Terrible Things", which was oirignally featured on the Lzzy Hale-Fronted outfit's 2022 studio album "Back From The Dead".

The official Dustin Haney-directed music video for the new rendition of the track, which was written by Hale, along with Zac Malloy and Scott Stevens, can be seen below.

"'Terrible Things' is a song about hope and forgiveness of one's self, and this world we live in," said Lzzy. "To elevate the heart of this track, we asked the baddest woman in Nashville, Ashley McBryde, to lend her incredible voice. I'm so in awe of her power and am so grateful to have her join us! I know the message will resonate and inspire you. We are imperfect beings, capable of so much evil. But I will not lose faith, because in my dreams I believe we are not these 'Terrible Things'."

McBryde added: "I've loved HALESTORM for longer than I can remember. I thought my team was messing with me when they said Lzzy asked if I wanted to sing on 'Terrible Things' with them. But it turns out they were being serious, so, of course, I said yes. I am so happy to be on this track with Lzzy. She's a phenomenal human being and someone I continue to look up to."

Lzzy previously talked about the inspiration for "Terrible Things" in a 2022 track-by-track breakdown of the "Back From The Dead" LP. At the time, she said: "This song is me trying to maintain faith in humanity when it just seems like all hope is lost. I need to believe that we are not these terrible things because inherently as humans — I mean, I'm watching it go down in real time right now — we're taking these huge leaps back in evolution. And we've really gotta get our heads on straight here, people. We've gotta evolve. We've gotta transform. We've gotta look at the things that really matter. 'Cause as humans, we are violent. We are inherently bad — we are. But I have to keep that faith, keep that hope in humanity that we can get better. And this is the only thing that I can do to control that right now and try to put some positivity out in the world. 'Cause in my dreams I believe that we are not these terrible things."

The Arkansas-born McBryde sang a cover of FOREIGNER's "I Wanna Know What Love Is" with Wynnona Judd at the 2023 CMT Music Awards. Her accolades include a Grammy win (and five other nominations),three ACM Awards and one CMA Award.

This past December, HALESTORM released a deluxe edition of "Back From The Dead". "Back From The Dead: Deluxe Edition" includes seven previously unreleased B-sides, including "Mine", a 1980s-inspired rocker. "Back From The Dead: Deluxe Edition" is available digitally, on CD, and cassette tape, marking the first time that the album has been offered in those physical formats.

Lzzy (vocals, guitar) and her brother Arejay (drums) formed HALESTORM in 1998 while in middle school. Guitarist Joe Hottinger joined the group in 2003, followed by bassist Josh Smith in 2004.

In December 2018, HALESTORM was nominated for a "Best Rock Performance" Grammy Award for its song "Uncomfortable". Six years earlier, the band won its first Grammy in the category of "Best Hard Rock/ Metal Performance" for "Love Bites (So Do I)".

Rockers Pay Tribute To 'Queen Of Rock 'N' Roll' TINA TURNER

Rockers Pay Tribute To 'Queen Of Rock 'N' Roll' TINA TURNER

David Coverdale (WHITESNAKE),Geezer Butler (BLACK SABBATH),Mick Jagger (THE ROLLING STONES),Peter Criss (KISS),David Draiman (DISTURBED) and Todd La Torre (QUEENSRŸCHE) are among the musicians who have reacted on social media to the death of Tina Turner. The pioneering rock singer passed away earlier today after a long illness. She was 83 years old.

Turner had battled several health issues in recent years, including being diagnosed with intestinal cancer in 2016 and having a kidney transplant in 2017.

With a career spanning more than half a century, the legendary singer, dancer, actress and author was not only one of the world's most popular and successful entertainers, but the beloved global icon widely regarded as the "Queen Of Rock 'N' Roll".

Among her many accomplishments, the revered singer had received 12 Grammy Awards, was the first black artist and the first female artist to feature on the cover of Rolling Stone and was awarded the Légion D'honneur by the French government. One of the world's best-selling artists of all time, her live performances have been seen by millions. First inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame as half of IKE & TINA TURNER, she was inducted in her own right as a solo artist in a ceremony in October 2021.

Born as Anna Mae Bullock in Nutbush, Tennessee, Turner first rose to fame in the 1960s, partnering with then-husband Ike Turner, as the lead singer of the IKE & TINA TURNER REVUE, acclaimed for her live performances and catalog of hits, including "River Deep - Mountain High" and "Proud Mary". Turner's well-publicized divorce and hardships ultimately forced her to virtually all but disappear from the music scene. By the 1970s, she began practicing Buddhism and rebuilt her life by tapping into her spiritual strength.

She celebrated her newfound freedom in 1975 with the role of the Acid Queen in the film version of THE WHO's "Tommy", delivering an outrageous, but all-too-brief performance.

She continued to release several albums during the late 1970s, but it was in 1984 that her career went stratospheric with 1984's "Private Dancer" going five times platinum in the U.S. and selling 10 million copies worldwide, spawning megahits, including "What's Love Got To Do With It", "Better Be Good To Me", the title track and a cover of Al Green's "Let's Stay Together". The album would earn her widespread recognition and numerous awards, including three Grammys.

A string of hit albums followed, including "Break Every Rule", "Foreign Affair" and "What's Love Got To Do With It". Hit singles included "Typical Male", "The Best", "I Don't Wanna Lose You", "I Don't Wanna Fight" and "Goldeneye". Successful duets with David Bowie and Mick Jagger showed her ability to perform on an equal footing with the greats of rock 'n' roll.

With another movie role in 1985, "Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome", she found another hit in its theme song, "We Don't Need Another Hero", establishing her high-profile status well into the '90s.
