MUNROE'S THUNDER Featuring Former METAL CHURCH Vocalist RONNY MUNROE To Release New Album In November; "Echoes Of The Dead" Lyric Video Streaming

MUNROE'S THUNDER Featuring Former METAL CHURCH Vocalist RONNY MUNROE To Release New Album In November; "Echoes Of The Dead" Lyric Video Streaming

Munroe's Thunder, fronted by the renowned power-metal vocalist, Ronny Munroe, have inked a worldwide deal with RFL Records & Entertainment and are thrilled to announce the new album, The Black Watch, releasing on November 11th.

Ronny Munroe comments:

"Munroe's Thunder, The Black Watch, is loosely based on my family heritage, as some of my ancestors were actually in the black watch who guarded Mary, Queen Of Scots. Finding that out intrigued me enough to do a concept record about my family heritage.

After a very long wait, this record is finally finished and ready for you all to hear. I am very proud and elated by all the hard work that went into it, from the hours of research to the countless hours from DMP behind the board and all the remarkable talent that is on the album. Thank you so much to Jon and the team at RFL Records for having faith in our vision and for finally bringing Munroe's Thunder to the masses."

The Black Watch is a journey where melodic power metal tells the tale of darkness, betrayal and bravery during the reign of one of history's most recognized Queens, Mary Queen Of Scots. Mary Queen of Scots, original name Mary Stuart or Mary Stewart, (born December 8, 1542, Linlithgow Palace, West Lothian, Scotland—died February 8, 1587, Fotheringhay Castle, Northamptonshire, England), queen of Scotland (1542–67) and queen consort of France (1559–60). Her unwise marital and political actions provoked rebellion among the Scottish nobles, forcing her to flee to England, where she was eventually beheaded as a Roman Catholic threat to the English throne. The story is one of history's most recognized tales and Munroe, coincidentally, has ties to the legendary history of the Queen.

Sound effects and atmospheric textures set the mood of this album and its chilling tale, delivered, of course, in full-throttle power metal style. The title track unleashes Munroe's soaring melodic vocals accompanied by epic guitar leads and riffs. The album also includes a number of ballad-style tracks: "Babbington Mary", "Falkirk" and "Thirty Years War". The shift in musical textures and pace adds further dimension to the dynamical journey of The Black Watch. "The Executioner" brings this royal story of bloodshed to a gruesome conclusion. Thunder and rain manifests alongside a sombre guitar melody before the track builds into the full heavy ensemble. An anthemic chorus, dark guitars and haunting lyrics tell of Mary's execution and bring this chapter to a close.

Tracklist:

"Battle Cry"
"The Black Watch"
"Awaken The Fire"
"Gray Hall"
"Babbington Mary"
"Brace For The Night"
"Dead Man's War"
"Falkirk"
"Thirty Years War"
"Echoes Of The Dead"
"The Executioner"

"Echoes Of The Dead"

Munroe's Thunder is:

Ronny Munroe - vocals
David Mark Pearce - guitars, bass

FRAYLE Premieres New Video “All The Things I Was”

Cleveland’s Frayle has released a new music video for the track “All The Things I Was”:

“This song is a reminiscence of the things I was and the regrets I had. The video shows how any rebirth or transformation can be painful and often times isn’t pretty or comfortable but results in a more learned and wise self.” - Gwyn Strang

In support of Frayle's album Skin & Sorrow (released September 23), the band embarks on a European tour beginning November 1 at the Willemeen in Arnhem, Netherlands. The tour includes two festival appearances, Damnation in Manchester, UK November 5 and Gloomaar Festival in Neunkirchen, Germany November 19, in addition to the legendary venues to which Frayle will bring their doom magic.

ROB HALFORD: New JUDAS PRIEST Album Is 'Close' To Being Completed

ROB HALFORD: New JUDAS PRIEST Album Is 'Close' To Being Completed

In a new interview with Q104.3 New York's "Out Of The Box With Jonathan Clarke", JUDAS PRIEST singer Rob Halford was asked if it's true that the band's upcoming studio album is "very close" to being completed. He responded (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "It is close, yeah. All the writing's done; the bulk of the recording is done. I've still gotta put my vocal tracks down. So, in essence, it's done, which is a great feeling, because that really points us to the metal future. Everything that we've done in PRIEST over the last 50-odd years has been driven by the latest music that we're making. So this is no exception.

"We'll finish this 50th-anniversary celebration down in São Paulo, Brazil on December the 18th, and that'll be this year done," Rob added. "And then next year we're kicking off with our good friend Ozzy [Osbourne] in the U.K.; we'll do some shows with him. And [in the rest of] Europe. And then a few other bits and pieces we've got going over in Europe. And then we stop. And then we plan the next release sequence for the next PRIEST album."

Earlier this month, Halford told AXS TV's Katie Daryl about what PRIEST fans can expect from the upcoming LP: "The same energy, the same vitality, the same determination, and it really is, again, another affirmation of what you love about JUDAS PRIEST. If you listen to any album from PRIEST from 'Rocka Rolla' in the '70s up to the 2000s with 'Firepower' and everything that went on between there, whether it was 'Turbo Lover' or whether it was the 'Painkiller' or '[You've Got] Another Thing Comin'', all of these pinpoints connect the dots of this great 50 years of metal, this journey that we're on. And it ain't over yet, folks, because that means another album and another tour. And we can't wait to keep pouring out the metal, 'cause that turbo power isn't gonna get turned off anytime soon."

Last month, JUDAS PRIEST guitarist Richie Faulkner told The Entertainment Outlet about the progress of the recording sessions for the band's follow-up to 2018's "Firepower" album: "We're getting there. We've been trying to get it done. The first obstacle was the pandemic, because we couldn't get together and do it as a group. And then when the pandemic restrictions were lifted, then we could go out on tour. So the next obstacle, if you wanna call it that, was the tour. So we had to go out and tour and record bits and pieces in between the tour legs. So we've got drums done, we've got guitars done, we've got the bass done. I think the main thing we have to do now is vocals. So we've got the U.S. leg of the tour coming up, so Rob's gotta protect his voice and use his voice sparingly before that. So maybe after that. I mean, we've got [dates in] the U.S. and we've got South America, which takes us into December. So maybe in the New Year we can start working on vocals."

Regarding when fans can expect to see the next PRIEST LP released, Richie said: "It's always tough to talk about timeframes, because, as we know, things change. But Rob always says, 'It's done when it's done.' There's no point in rushing anything at this point in the band's career. But it's getting there — we're working on it and it's getting there. And we're using the time we've got. These days as well, we don't need 18 months in a 10,000-square-foot studio in Fiji to do a record. The way things are these days, we can do it in a lot more economical way. So we're making technology work and we're making all that work for us so we can get it done in the best way we can so we can get it out when we can. But it'll be done when it's done."

As for what the new PRIEST material is sounding like, Faulkner said: "[Producer and touring guitarist] Andy Sneap was texting me this morning, and he was saying it sounded really solid, really confident. He was saying… I know people love this stuff on the socials, but it's not 'Firepower 2'; it's its own thing. Some people might like that; some people might hate that. When you read the socials, people read comments like that and they know what the album sounds like straight away. I don't know how they do that. But it's all good. It means they're invested in PRIEST and they're invested in the new music. But as he said, it sounds confident, it's sounding great and solid. It's always good as well when you've got something like this and no one's heard it. So you're excited to release it to the world — you want the world to hear it, but they haven't heard it yet. So it'll be great for the world to hear it. They might hate it. But it's still exciting."

This past February, Halford was asked by Remy Maxwell of Audacy Check In if he agreed with Faulkner's recent comment that the band's upcoming album will be more musically "progressive" than "Firepower". He responded: "Yeah, the metal is there. But here's the thing: we've tried our best not to replicate anything that we've done. From 'Rocka Rolla' all the way through to 'Firepower', each record has had a distinctive character. And it's tough because fans go, 'We want another 'Painkiller',' 'We want another 'British Steel'.' And [it's, like], 'Dude, we've already done that.'

"Fans know that we're a band that is always full of adventure and trying new stuff," he continued. "And so, yeah, this has got probably some more progressive elements that we've never really delved into before. And that's exciting, because, again, it gives us and our fans another opportunity to see a different side of PRIEST. But it's still metal. There's just more of it. There are more notes than there were before."

Also in February, Faulkner told Canada's The Metal Voice about the overall sound of the new PRIEST music: "Whenever you start a record, you never know how it's gonna turn out. So you might start with an idea of what it's gonna be, and as it kind of rolls on, it comes out something different. So you don't quite know. And also it's really hard to sum up your own music, I find, without sounding really pretentious. But I think this one — it's not 'Firepower 2', I don't think. It's its own thing, it's its own animal. If anything, I would say it's a bit more progressive in places, and in places it's got a bit more of that 'Killing Machine' swagger."

Faulkner added: "I know everyone says, 'Oh, is it the next 'Painkiller'?' or 'Is it the next…?' whatever… I don't know if they'd ever done it, but I know we've never done it when I've been in the band; we've never tried to recreate an album. It's always we try to create an album that stands on its own legs. So I think it's definitely a little bit more progressive than 'Firepower' and, as I said, in places it's got a little bit of that 'Killing Machine' angry swagger attitude going on. But again, as I said, we're waiting to see what it turns out like, 'cause it could turn out completely different."

A year and a half ago, Halford confirmed that PRIEST's next album would see the band reuniting with the "Firepower" production team consisting of Andy Sneap, longtime collaborator Tom Allom and engineer Mike Exeter (BLACK SABBATH).

Bassist Ian Hill is the sole remaining original member of PRIEST, which formed in 1969. Halford joined the group in 1973 and guitarist Glenn Tipton signed on in 1974. Rob left PRIEST in the early 1990s to form his own band, then came back to PRIEST in 2003. Founding guitarist K.K. Downing parted ways with the band in 2011, and was replaced by Faulkner.

Tipton was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease eight years ago after being stricken by the condition at least half a decade earlier. Tipton announced in early 2018 he was going to sit out touring activities in support of "Firepower". He was replaced by Sneap, who is also known for his work in NWOBHM revivalists HELL and cult thrash outfit SABBAT.

DAVID ELLEFSON Doesn't Pay Attention To Online Haters: 'At Some Point, You've Gotta Be A Little Detached From That Stuff'

DAVID ELLEFSON Doesn't Pay Attention To Online Haters: 'At Some Point, You've Gotta Be A Little Detached From That Stuff'

In a new interview with "The Chuck Shute Podcast", former MEGADETH bassist David Ellefson was asked if he ever pays attention to any of the online detractors, some of whom have less-than-kind things to say about him. He responded (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "First of all, I never read any of that stuff, so I just stay completely… [NFL quarterback] Tom Brady had a good thing. Somebody asked him, they said, 'Do you ever read the 'Monday Morning Quarterback', what they say about you?' He goes, 'God no. I would never be able to play the game next week, 'cause someone would be in my head.' [Former MEGADETH guitarist] Jeff Young told me that, that [actress] Meg Ryan had [the same attitude]. She goes, 'I never read the interviews. I never read the press. I never read anything about it, 'cause I don't want some fan or some critic being in my head about what I should or shouldn't do in my next role.' And I thought that was great. At some point, you've gotta be a little detached from that stuff. It's just, like, hey, man, I pick up my bass, I write a song, I call my buddies, we make an album. That's what it is. We put it out.

"When you're making the album, it's your album, but once you put it out, it now becomes [the people's] album," Ellefson continued. "And of course there's gonna be critics; there's gonna be those who love or hate. I look at movies. I usually like most of the movies that critics hate. [Laughs] I go see movies all the time, and it's, like, 'Oh, the critics gave it a bad [review].' It's, like, I don't give a shit. I'm not going to the movie with him. I could care less what he says. I'm going to have my own experience with it. Same with records — I download 'em, I put 'em on to have my own experience with 'em.

"Look, it is the entertainment business, man, so they all keep us entertained," David added.

Ellefson recently teamed up with another former MEGADETH member, guitarist Jeff Young, in a new project called KINGS OF THRASH. Earlier this month, KINGS OF THRASH completed a four-date West Coast tour during which the band was joined for several songs by another former MEGADETH guitarist, Chris Poland. KINGS OF THRASH, which also includes drummer Fred Aching as well as guitarist/vocalist Chaz Leon, performed MEGADETH's classic albums "Killing Is My Business… And Business Is Good!" and "So Far, So Good… So What!" in their entirety.

Ellefson was fired from MEGADETH nearly a year and a half ago after sexually tinged messages and explicit video footage involving the bassist were posted on Twitter.

David was in MEGADETH from the band's inception in 1983 to 2002, and again from 2010 until his latest exit.

In 2004, Ellefson filed an $18.5-million lawsuit against Dave Mustaine, alleging the MEGADETH leader shortchanged him on profits and backed out of a deal to turn Megadeth Inc. over to him when the band broke up in 2002. The lawsuit was eventually dismissed and Ellefson rejoined MEGADETH in 2010.

PANTERA's Santiago Headlining Show Sells Out, Gets Moved To 17,000-Capacity Arena

PANTERA's Santiago Headlining Show Sells Out, Gets Moved To 17,000-Capacity Arena

PANTERA's headlining concert in Santiago, Chile, originally scheduled for December 13 at the 5,400-capacity Teatro Caupolicán, has been moved to December 12 at Movistar Arena, a 17,000-seat multi-purpose indoor arena.

Earlier today, PANTERA shared news of the date and venue change, writing on social media: "Our upcoming headline show at Caupolican Theater, Santiago sold out so quickly that we decided to move the show to Movistar Arena on 12/12. And SEPULTURA is now on the bill as well. Tickets available now."

It was first reported in July yhat PANTERA's surviving members Philip Anselmo (vocals) and Rex Brown (bass) will unite with guitarist Zakk Wylde (OZZY OSBOURNE, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY) and drummer Charlie Benante (ANTHRAX) for a world tour under the PANTERA banner.

Anselmo and Brown, along with Wylde and Benante, will headline a number of major festivals across North America and Europe and stage some of their own headline concerts.

According to Billboard, the lineup has been given a green light by the estates of the band's founders, drummer Vincent "Vinnie Paul" Abbott and guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, as well as Brown, who last year said Wylde wouldn't tour with PANTERA if a reunion were to happen. It's unclear what changed his mind.

PANTERA will play its first shows in over 20 years in December 2022, starting with a co-headlining slot at Mexico's Hell & Heaven Metal Fest and Monterrey Metal Fest, followed by appearances at three Knotfest festivals in South America. There will also be a one-off show with JUDAS PRIEST in São Paulo, Brazil.

Confirmed PANTERA shows so far:

Dec. 02 - Texicoco, Mexico - Hell & Heaven Metal Fest
Dec. 06 - Monterrey, Mexico – Monterrey Metal Fest
Dec. 09 - Bogotá, Colombia – Knotfest Colombia
Dec. 11 - Santiago, Chile - Knotfest Chile
Dec. 12 - Santiago, Chile - Movistar Arena
Dec. 15 - São Paulo, Brazil – Vibra São Paulo (with JUDAS PRIEST)
Dec. 18 - São Paulo, Brazil – Knotfest Brazil

Benante told SiriusXM's "Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk" about how he plans to approach the PANTERA gig: "I can't go do this as the drummer from ANTHRAX because it would be a different sound completely. So the way I'm gonna do that is if you close your eyes, it's gonna sound like it's Vinnie, basically. And that's how it's gonna be. The sound is gonna sound exactly like him."

Wylde said that he had a similar mindset. "You approach it the same way as you do when I'm playing with Ozzy," he said. "Obviously I've gotta learn [Randy] Rhoads's stuff and I've gotta learn Jake's [E. Lee] stuff, and when I was doing the [BLACK] SABBATH stuff, you learn it and do it as faithful as you can. Charlie's gotta learn all of Vinnie's parts. You approach it as if you're in a cover band. When we do the ZAKK SABBATH stuff," referring to his BLACK SABBATH cover band, "I don't start changing lyrics midway through 'War Pigs'. You learn the songs — so that's what you do."

A year ago, Anselmo said that he was up for reuniting with Brown for a special tour celebrating the music of PANTERA. The 54-year-old singer, who has spent the past few years playing a PANTERA-centric set with his solo band, THE ILLEGALS, discussed the possibility of re-teaming with his former PANTERA bandmate during an interview with Brazil's Inside With Paulo Baron. Asked if he and Rex would be open to playing some shows in celebration of PANTERA's legacy, Anselmo said: "If Rex and I had a show to play, or we were ever gonna be on stage again together, I would welcome it with open arms. I love Rex. And he'd be the same way. We're brothers forever. So playing on stage together, or doing some shows together, is not out of the question. It could happen."

In April 2021, Rex told Eonmusic that he and Philip still get offers for a PANTERA tribute tour. "But if you don't have the other guys in the band, it's not going to sound the same," he said. "If we were ever to do something like that, it would have to be spot-on, or I wouldn't do it. It would be a tribute."

Talk about a possible PANTERA "reunion" intensified when Anselmo regularly joined Wylde's BLACK LABEL SOCIETY to perform PANTERA's song "I'm Broken" during DOWN's 2014 stint on the "Revolver Golden Gods Tour". That buzz only got stronger after Brown joined the jam on May 23, 2014 when the tour swung through Texas.

Up until his passing, Vinnie remained on non-speaking terms with Anselmo, whom the drummer indirectly blamed for Dimebag's death.

Vinnie Paul and Dimebag co-founded PANTERA. When PANTERA broke up in 2003, they formed DAMAGEPLAN. On December 8, 2004, while performing with DAMAGEPLAN at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, Ohio, Dimebag was shot and killed onstage by a troubled schizophrenic who believed that the members of PANTERA were stealing his thoughts.

PANTERA is managed by Scott McGhee of 1 Degree Music Entertainment. The band's legal representative is Nick Ferrara And Associates. PANTERA is booked internationally by Rod MacSween at ITB. Artist Group International will book PANTERA's North American dates, with Dennis Arfa and Peter Pappalardo as the responsible agents.

DEVILDRIVER's DEZ FAFARA Calls Out BRUCE DICKINSON Over 'Dope-Smoking' Comments

DEVILDRIVER's DEZ FAFARA Calls Out BRUCE DICKINSON Over 'Dope-Smoking' Comments

DEVILDRIVER's Dez Fafara has called out Bruce Dickinson for berating fans for smoking weed during an IRON MAIDEN concert.

At MAIDEN's September 21 show at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, the 64-year-old Dickinson took a few minutes to excoriate a handful of people who were allegedly smoking weed right in front of him and his bandmates while they were playing.

"I don't know what it is," the singer told the crowd, as seen in a viral video on YouTube. "There's so many fucking people smoking so much fucking dope down here, I'm amazed you can even see. Poor old Steve [Harris, MAIDEN bassist]. I don't know if you know, but he absolutely fucking hates marijuana and the smell of it, all right? So when he's trying to play bass, it fucks him up. It fucks me up. I'm a singer, all right? So duh.

"I would just ask for a tiny bit of respect," he added. "If you want to go get completely stoned out of your fucking mind, go out the back and do it. All right? Otherwise you're going to end up like this fucking knucklehead here going 'uhhhh.'"

A week later, at MAIDEN's concert at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, Washington, Dickinson similarly blasted the pot-smoking fans in the audience, saying: "The smell of the crowd. Oh, I love the smell of sweaty human fucking bodies. It's the weird shit that you smoke that fucks me up. And the bass player. We fucking hate it. Please, if you're gonna go get fucking wrecked, fucking wreck yourself out the back and then come back, all right? 'Cause we are having a fucking great time up here and I wanna enjoy every minute of it. I don't wanna do [adopts stoner drawl], 'Where the fuck am I, dude?'"

This is not the first time Bruce has called out fans for smoking marijuana at MAIDEN's concerts. Back in 2008, Dickinson shouted at a pot smoker in the crowd, saying: "Would you please put that fucking shit out?" Bruce then identified the person in the crowd and added "I really hate the stink of that," explaining that "My lungs are trying to work up here, dude."

This past Monday (October 24),Fafara took to his Twitter to share a Metal Hammer article about Dickinson's comments, and he included the following message: "It's a concert bro people smoke weed". This prompted one person to respond: "True. But not everyone smokes, nor does everyone like the smell so I see where Bruce is coming from as well."

Earlier today, Dez returned to Twitter to elaborate on his position, writing: "When he's in that concert hall he thinks it's his but it's not it's the peoples those who bought tickets house not the bands house I've had this argument for years with bands bro your in their town in their house your just a fucking guest #smokeweed".

Dickinson has a history of publicly admonishing fans and security at MAIDEN's concerts if he feels like they are out of line. At the band's September 22 show in Anaheim, he grabbed an uninvited stage invader by the shirt and dragged him to the side where he was escorted off by the MAIDEN stage security. In July, the singer made headlines when he blasted a MAIDEN fan as a "Greek cunt" and a "fucking cocksucker" for lighting a flare during the band's concert in Athens, Greece. Back in 2019, he stopped a MAIDEN show midway through to slam a Tacoma, Washington venue for a violent and bloody incident in the crowd for which he claimed the venue's security was to blame. In 2012, Bruce called out a fan at an Indianapolis show who had been texting for three straight songs.

Prior to the kick-off concert of the 2022 leg of MAIDEN's "Legacy Of The Beast" tour on May 22 in Zagreb, Croatia, the band hadn't performed live in two and a half years — since the completion of its South American tour in October 2019.

MAIDEN is continuing to tour in support of its latest album, "Senjutsu", which came out in September 2021. It marks MAIDEN's second consecutive double album behind 2015's "The Book Of Souls" which is the longest MAIDEN album, with a running time of 92 minutes.

...AND OCEANS To Release New Album In January 2023; "The Collector And His Construct" Video Streaming

It’s rare for a band to commandingly return with their best effort to date, and yet that’s what ...And Oceans achieved in 2020 with Cosmic World Mother, their first full-length in 18 years. This comeback album was the sound of creative floodgates bursting through into a new body of water - an ocean if you will. Blistering symphonic black metal, heady themes that dealt with the connection between philosophy and psychics, and the Finns’ trademark adventurous songwriting. Everything that Cosmic World Mother did well, new opus As In Gardens, So In Tombs manages to eclipse and recontextualize.

It’s the sound of a band seizing every ounce of momentum and upping the ante in every way. While ...And Oceans has never written the same album twice, in many ways As In Gardens, So In Tombs sounds like an opportunity for the band to pick up and improve upon what they started. Symphonic black metal is never this fun, free, and fantastic.

As In Gardens, So In Tombs will be released via Season Of Mist on January 27th, 2023.

LANDFALL Debut Official Lyric Video For New Single "Heroes Are Forever"

LANDFALL Debut Official Lyric Video For New Single "Heroes Are Forever"

Frontiers Music Srl recently announced the December 9 release of sophomore album, Elevate, from Brazilian melodic rockers Landfall. Hailing from Curitiba, Brazil, Landfall features singer Gui Oliver (ex-Auras), guitarist Marcelo Gelbcke, bassist Thiago Forbeci, and drummer Felipe Souzza.

Watch a lyric video for the single "Heroes Are Forever" below, and pre-order/save Elevate here.

The band’s delightful melodic rock/AOR sound can best be described as falling somewhere between classic melodic rock, a là Journey, and slightly heavier influences, such as classic era Dokken, White Lion, and Extreme. With phenomenal musical and songwriting abilities and the golden voice of Oliver, Landfall is truly a welcome addition to the melodic rock genre.

“This record definitely sums up the essence of who we are as a band. Being our second album, we were much more comfortable creating this music, so I think our personalities as musicians are even more apparent this time. As a group, we are currently living such a great moment and I think it has been reflected in our new music," says guitarist Marcelo Gelbcke.

Lead singer and lyricist Gui Oliver believes that the new songs are stronger than ever and capture the best of each band member. “We know exactly what we want to say, the music we want to play. Also, Marcelo and Felipe were meticulous in every detail of the production creating a special atmosphere for the songs," he says.

“In terms of writing and production, the entire process went smoothly, although we knew we would have a lot of work coming on our way. We did the whole piece in nine months. Even before we wrote the first seed of a song, we knew from the beginning what we should focus on and where to go. This makes a huge difference in the end. As we're self-producers, what you will listen to on the tracks is the exact way we want to sound. ‘Elevate’ is the Landfall's version 2.0. Powerful tones with well-built foundations and harmonies and really catchy melodies," says drummer Felipe Souzza.

Landfall was originally formed by drummer Felipe Souzza and guitarist Marcelo Gelbcke, childhood friends who have been playing together since they were about 15 years old. Some years later, bassist Thiago Forbeci joined up with them and added new musical input and influences, at which point the band decided to go in a new direction. During this period, they released three independent albums under the name Wild Child, performing several concerts around Brazil, including opening for acts such as Glenn Hughes and Mike Vescera.

Joined in 2017 by the former Auras singer Gui Oliver, Landfall began writing songs that would eventually become their first album released by Frontiers Records, “The Turning Point”. As a songwriter, Oliver had previously written songs for several artists from the label, including Jimi Jamison, Bobby Kimball, Fergie Frederiksen, and Issa. About Landfall, he said “I was really glad to be back with Frontiers with a new band and new songs in a new perspective. When I met the guys for the first time, I was really impressed by what gifted musicians they were. I knew we could make some great music

During the period between releasing The Turning Point and commencing work on their second album Elevate, Marcelo Gelbcke, along with Semblant vocalist Sergio Mazul, wrote, produced, and recorded the first Icon of Sin album, a heavy metal tour de force featuring the incredibly talented Brazilian vocalist Raphael Mendes. As for Gui Oliver, he released the debut Mayank album together with Alessandro Del Vecchio (Edge Of Forever, Hardline), Rolf Nordström (Perfect Plan), and Nicholas Papappico (Robin McAuley), another killer slice of melodic rock/AOR.

GALLÓGLAIGH – Early ‘90s Styled Black Metal Project Launches Luaith Album

GALLÓGLAIGH – Early ‘90s Styled Black Metal Project Launches Luaith Album

Born out of desperation from the great plague of 2020, Gallóglaigh’s founder JP created the band out of scratch riffs. Never one to rest, he stepped up his game from the project’s first album to really put the second effort, Luaith, on a different level. Now, he is armed with Gaerea’s Diogo Mota as session drummer and new but visceral vocalist Beleth, in addition to a desire to bring back the old school black metal sound but with a modern approach.

Inspired by legends such as Mayhem and newer bands like Mgla, Luaith is an album that captures the mystique and energy of the old ways but presents them in a more dynamic fashion by not being afraid to step outside the box.  From classic approaches like blistering tremolo and demonic speed to passages that aren’t afraid to present melody among the twists and turns, Luaith is an album that will appeal to the old school die-hards but also be appeasing to those new to the genre or wanting more from their blackened arts.

Lineup:

JP - Guitars, Bass, Keyboards
Beleth - Vocals
Diogo Mota - Drums (session)

ENTHEOS Share “Absolute Zero” Video

ENTHEOS Share “Absolute Zero” Video

Pushing progressive death metal in ever more imaginative directions, Entheos — vocalist Chaney Crabb and multi-instrumentalist Navene Koperweis — continue to stand apart from the pack. Incorporating elements drawn from myriad genres — including death metal, groove, grunge, electronica, slam, gothic rock, jazz, prog and more — they have evolved with every release. Having stripped down to a two-piece in 2020, this decision streamlined the band and allows the core members to make the music they want —with no compromise, which is clearly to their betterment.

Today, Entheos share the video for "Absolute Zero." It marks the band's first release under new label Metal Blade Records. The song also features Evan Brewer, who has played on all of the band's previous material, on bass.

"To us, 'Absolute Zero' has always felt like an obvious choice to release as a single," the band says. "It’s a raw, aggressive song that represents the descent into darkness that we often times must face in order to progress and appreciate our lives. The video was shot by the incredible David Brodsky and Allison Woest, who were able to capture the emotion of the song perfectly."

FIRST JASON Feat. ARI LEHMAN Releases “The Scapegoat” Video With ICE NINE KILLS’ SPENCER CHARNAS

FIRST JASON Feat. ARI LEHMAN Releases “The Scapegoat” Video With ICE NINE KILLS’ SPENCER CHARNAS

Just in time for Halloween, horror metal band First Jason, featuring Friday The 13th’s original “Jason Voorhees” Ari Lehman, has announced the release of its new video for their latest single “The Scapegoat.” Featuring special guest vocalist Spencer Charnas of Ice Nine Kills, Lehman describes the track as a song that “depicts the times we live in.”

Specifically, Lehman says the single was inspired by a social media-obsessed society that is easily controlled by leaders and influencers whose mission is to simply to herd the masses. “Video maestro James Callahan and his team at Camp Rattler’s visionary realization elevated one of our best songs to another dimension filled with symbolic imagery that revealed a powerful message for the times we live in,” Lehman said.

To do so, Director Callahan and Producer Kristin Rose shot the vignette on location at The Sanctum, a darkened former church that has been repurposed into a live music and event venue in Northeastern PA, to depict the dichotomy of light and darkness, power and weakness, and good versus evil that cascades throughout the song.

“Our vision from the onset, was a music video like none other that straddles the thin veil of the real world and the horrific,” said Callahan. “In the darkened former church, intense sunlight streamed through the original stained-glass windows, creating a surreal set for Ari to channel the spirit of ‘Jason’. Through music, he calls upon his followers through their cell phones and then ritualistically anoints them with blood on their white hockey masks. It was one of the most terrifyingly beautiful concepts we’ve created.”

“The Scapegoat” video follows the band’s hit 2021 release “The Price Of Peace,” which was also produced by Camp Rattler, and amassed over 30 thousand views on Instagram and 10 thousand views on YouTube in less than a week. According to Lehman and Callahan, “The Price Of Peace,” was “just the beginning” of their collaboration.

“The team Callahan leads at Camp Rattler always impresses us with their insight, enthusiasm, and stellar production,” said Lehman. “We are always absolutely thrilled with the results!”

Fans are encouraged to follow Camp Rattler’s YouTube channel at @Camprattler for updates and teasers.

CONQUER DIVIDE Share Music Video For New Single "Paralyzed"

CONQUER DIVIDE Share Music Video For New Single "Paralyzed"

Mascot Records/Mascot Label Group recording artist Conquer Divide - the international five-piece band hailing from the US, UK, and Canada - have just shared the video for their new single, "Paralyzed." Watch below.

This track will hit particularly close to home for anyone who listens to it, as it addresses something we've all dealt with - yet in a very unique way.

Guitarist Kristen Sturgis shares, "This song is about battling with mental illness and depression - especially during the pandemic - and feeling like you are too mentally paralyzed to move forward."

She continues, revealing her deeply personal experience working as a nurse during COVID, saying, "I was in a dark place because, as some people may or may not know, I am a critical care nurse when I am not touring. I was traveling around the country to all these hot spots to help out with COVID, and I saw dozens of people lose their lives. And I still really have not fully processed it."

Sturgis further explains, "But if you do not disconnect, you can't do your job effectively. So, it is the kind of depression where you don't feel anything at all, and you turn your emotions off. There was a point where they had psychologists visiting us on the unit to talk about our feelings. But it was like, 'I don't have time for this right now. I need to hang the next bag of x/y/z medication and keep this person alive. Get back to me in a year after this is all over.' I think a lot of health care workers are also going to have PTSD or depression from what we went through. I hit a bit of writer's block as a result of my mental state, and this song was a bit cathartic for me."

As for Conquer Divide's future plans, Sturgis offers this exciting update: "We've all grown so much since our first record. We did a lot of introspection and soul-searching about which creative direction to take the band in next, and we can't wait to share what we've been working on. There will be something for everyone on our sophomore album."

The band is on tour with Attack Attack! this fall.

Janel Duarte - Vocals + Bass

GUILLOTINE A.D. Premier "I Want To Believe" Music Video

GUILLOTINE A.D. Premier "I Want To Believe" Music Video

Southern death metal band Guillotine A.D. - whose music blends the sounds of old-school Florida death metal, Scandinavian black metal, and New Orleans sludge into a wholly unique brew - have released a video for "I Want To Believe".

A prime slab of Guillotine A.D.’s signature brand of southern death metal – the ferocity and atmosphere of Immortal melding seamlessly with the swagger and heft of Crowbar, delivered by a thundering 3-headed juggernaut that would make both High On Fire and Bolt Thrower proud.

The song was inspired by the movie Willow Creek, and the video is fittingly an intensely creepy montage of band performance footage and Sasquatch sightings. Featuring an opening monologue from renowned cryptid researcher/author/filmmaker/musician Lyle Blackburn. The video also features a ripping guest guitar solo from Corey Flowers (Beast Mode/Jet Engine Dragons), Sasquatch howls recorded in the remote forests of Washington state, and previously unreleased footage of Bigfoot sightings. Guillotine A.D. has produced a chilling and heavy work of modern metal.

“’Will Creek’ is probably the best Bigfoot horror movie ever made. The lyrics to ‘I Want to Believe’ are inspired by that film,” explains guitarist Lance Miller. “Without giving away any spoilers, it doesn’t have a happy ending. We don’t want to recreate the movie for the video, but it was fun making the video as a nod to the movie. It was an honor having Lyle Blackburn take part in the video. Also, thanks to Dave Shealy for providing his skunk ape footage, Alex CF for the drawings and to the Olympic Project for providing audio recordings for the song.”

“I Want to Believe” comes from the band’s latest album, Born To Fall, which was originally released on CD and digital in early summer, but due to demand 200 limited copies were pressed on vinyl and releases November 11.

Born To Fall, featuring cover art by Eliran Kantor (Testament, Sodom, Kataklysm), can be ordered at this location.

"War First"
"Spiritual Insect"

In the new video below, Adrian Thessenvitz performs a guitar playthrough of the album's first single, "Upside Down".

Game-changing new album, Chapter III - Downfall, bewitches with an innovative sound full of soaring melodic splendor juxtaposed against brooding, dark and even gothic heaviness. Exploring concepts of Ancient Egyptian history and mythology, Ad Infinitum melds a perfect balance of storytelling and technically sophisticated songwriting, spreading their wings in both areas of production and lyricism. Charging instrumentals, pounding drums, chunky, grooving riffs, mind-boggling solos and enchanting orchestrations build the band's unique world of sound as frontwoman-to-watch Melissa Bonny’s soul-stirring cleans and haunting growls put her incredible vocal range on display - dropping jaws with each line.

Produced by Ad Infinitum and Jacob Hansen at Hansen Studios, Chapter III - Downfall showcases that this up-and-coming quartet can effortlessly turn the genre upside down, gracing it with contemporary vibes without forgoing their signature metal origins, and thrilling all metal fans as they rise to the top!

Ad Infinitum add: “The word is out, Chapter III - Downfall is on its way! For this album, we explored stories and legends of Ancient Egypt with, as star character and main inspiration, Cleopatra. We added some extra dimension and sounds to our signature Ad Infinitum sound to create an extra dimension, transporting the listener to mystical landscapes of another era. We are beyond excited to start to unveil this new record!“

Opening track “Eternal Rains” immediately catches your breath with a captivating chorus, followed by electric  “Upside Down” - defying all rules by combining epic melodies and demonic growls with finesse. “Seth” convinces with a resounding modern sound and eerie ambience that’ll have new fans turning heads, whereas “From The Ashes” impresses with reminiscence of artists like Meshuggah, proving that Ad Infinitum never fails to deliver surprises. “Somewhere Better” creates a perfect symbiosis of vicious vocals and ethereal soundscapes, carrying the listener far away with its wide range of infallible instrumentals. “Under The Burning Skies” directs its haunting vocals towards the horizon, unfolding into an intense mid-tempo ballad shortly after. As a special treat, Ad Infinitum welcomes Chrigel Glanzmann of Eluveitie, who provides his voice for the atmospheric monologue introduction on “Legends”, paving the way for a touch of Middle Eastern-inspired djent flavor.

THE JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE - Official "Purple Haze" Visualizer Posted From Upcoming Release, Los Angeles Forum: April 26, 1969

THE JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE - Official "Purple Haze" Visualizer Posted From Upcoming Release, Los Angeles Forum: April 26, 1969

Experience Hendrix, L.L.C. in partnership with Legacy Recordings, a division of Sony Music Entertainment, is releasing The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Los Angeles Forum: April 26, 1969 this November 18 on 2LP vinyl, CD and all digital platforms. Pre-order here, and watch a new visualizer for "Purple Haze" below.

Recorded in the spring of 1969 before a raucous, sold-out audience, the captivating performance of the original lineup (singer/guitarist Jimi Hendrix, drummer Mitch Mitchell, bassist Noel Redding) has never before been released in its entirety. This album comes out in time for the 80th anniversary of Jimi Hendrix’s birth (November 27).

Following the massive success of The Jimi Hendrix Experience’s 1967-68 studio album trifecta (Are You Experienced, Axis: Bold As Love, and Electric Ladyland), the trio had developed into the most popular international touring attraction in rock music. This widescale public interest coincided with the construction of new arenas for sporting events, among them the Forum in Inglewood, CA. Designed by famed architect Charles Luckman (who also designed New York’s rebuilt Madison Square Garden), this multi-purpose venue opened in 1967 as the home of the Los Angeles Kings hockey team and Los Angeles Lakers basketball team, but also began to serve as a music venue. Among the earliest concerts held there was Aretha Franklin in January 1968 and the Cream farewell tour with opening act Deep Purple in October of that year. The Jimi Hendrix Experience were booked to perform on April 26, 1969 with opening acts Chicago Transit Authority (soon-to-be renamed Chicago) and Cat Mother & The All Night Newsboys, the latter of whom shared management with the headliners. Floor seats cost $6.50 ($51.20 adjusted for inflation).

By the time The Jimi Hendrix Experience took the stage to blaze through a spirited set, live concert sound had drastically improved from the time of The Beatles baseball stadium tours, but crowd control was still a major concern. Between songs, Jimi pled with audience members to stop rushing the stage. A heavy police presence is felt; lyrics for their hit “Purple Haze” are altered (“’Scuse me while I kiss that policeman!”) and Jimi dedicates “Spanish Castle Magic” to “the plain clothes police out there and other goofballs.”

Hendrix treated each performance as a unique event. He never relied on a standard set list comprised only of his biggest commercial hits. This approach was on full display at the Forum performance, blending more familiar tunes such as “Foxey Lady” with “I Don’t Live Today” from Are You Experienced and his signature blues original “Red House”(“Everybody want to know what America’s soul is; everybody think it’s Motown … America’s soul is something more like this here”) which had still not yet been released in the US at this time.

Furthermore, the group opened their set with a cover of “Tax Free” - an obscure 1967 instrumental by Swedish duo Hansson & Karlsson (consisting of Bo Hansson and Janne Karlsson), with whom The Experience had previously shared bills in Stockholm. Another unique highlight featured within the Forum performance was an early reimagining of “Star Spangled Banner,” which Jimi would canonize four months later at Woodstock. “Here’s a song we was all brainwashed with,” Jimi trenchantly declares, at a time when the nation was in a state of great political unrest. The group closed their performance with a unique, extraordinary medley of “Voodoo Child (Slight Return)” and Cream’s “Sunshine of Your Love.” The song was an Experience favorite and a perfect live vehicle for the trio’s unparalleled improvisational skill.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Los Angeles Forum: April 26, 1969 was recorded by Wally Heider and Bill Halverson contemporaneously, and recently remixed by longtime Hendrix producer/engineer Eddie Kramer for maximum audio fidelity. It was produced by Janie Hendrix, CEO of Experience Hendrix, L.L.C. and the sister of Jimi Hendrix, Kramer and John McDermott, who manages the Hendrix music catalog on behalf of Experience Hendrix. The package’s liner notes are by former LA Times staff writer/critic Randy Lewis with a preface by ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons who attended the Hendrix Forum show, having toured with the Experience, as part of The Moving Sidewalks, his pre-ZZ Top band.

BUTCHER BABIES Share Music Video For Their Cover Of SAWEETIE's 'Best Friend'

BUTCHER BABIES Share Music Video For Their Cover Of SAWEETIE's 'Best Friend'

BUTCHER BABIES have shared the official music video for their cover version of rapper Saweetie's chart-topping single "Best Friend". The clip was directed by Dale "Rage" Resteghini and was filmed at the Bare Den adult entertainment club in Newton, New Jersey.

BUTCHER BABIES have been performing their cover of "Best Friend" at their recent live shows.

Speaking to Spain's EMP about their decision to cover "Best Friend", BUTCHER BABIES co-vocalist Heidi Shepherd said: "It's basically a song about [me and fellow BUTCHER BABIES singer Carla Harvey]. 'Cause we've been best friends for so long. We were a band together prior to BUTCHER BABIES. It's a cover, and we figured we can't think of two better people to cover this song besides us. So it's fun."

At this year's Brutal Assault festival in Jaromer, Czech Republic, Shepherd and Harvey spoke to Metalshop about the band's upcoming fourth studio album which was recently completed with producer Josh Schroeder (LORNA SHORE, KING 810) for a 2023 release. Heidi said: "We released a barrage of singles throughout 2020 and 2021, and we're gonna follow that up with a full-length album in 2023. But we're also going to finish out the rest of this year with a bunch of singles from that album. So we're very excited. We played one new song today from that album, called 'Best Friend'. And it's been going over really well. So we're very excited. I know it's been a while, but it'll be worth the wait."

Asked why it's better to release singles than a full-length album in 2022, Carla said: "I think we live in a time where people want things right now; they want new stuff all the time. And I also think that when you release a single, people have a chance to digest that song, fall in love with that song before they skip to the next one and the next one and the next one. We really like developing a song on its own, making a video for that song, telling the story of that song, because every song is special to us."

Added Heidi: "We put our heart and soul into every single song that goes on the album. We don't just half-ass any of the songs, and so we want to make sure that it gets the life and the attention it deserves. And so I think we're just gonna continue this way and just leak it a little bit at a time and keep it going."

In a separate interview with Bloodstock TV, Carla stated about the recording process for the new BUTCHER BABIES LP: "It was a really cool experience. We got to sit together for about six weeks in the middle of nowhere — a very, very small town in Michigan — and just create together. And we had an Airbnb with animal skulls all over the place. And we just sat there in the snow and created probably our best album to date. So it was a great bonding experience."

Heidi confirmed that "Best Friend" will be included on BUTCHER BABIES' new effort.

"We've been playing one of the songs on these [European] festivals," she said. "One of the songs that we've been playing on these festivals, it's called 'Best Friend' and it's a cover from the hip-hop artist Saweetie featuring Doja Cat. And for us, being best friends, we thought it would be the best way to do a cover — a hip-hop/metal cover — since we've been best friends for, man, nearly two decades."

When Oran O'Beirne of Bloodstock TV suggested that some BUTCHER BABIES fans might object to such a diverse combination of musical styles, Carla said: "We haven't changed at all, because some of our earliest songs were similar. We've always run the gamut throughout our music; we've never stayed with one style. Most people love about BUTCHER BABIES that we have a death metal song and a thrash metal song and then a poppy radio song, and whatever mood they're in, we've got a song for them."

Added Heidi: "What I love about being in a band like this and being around musicians that we all see eye to eye is that we can do different things; we're not pigeonholed to one certain sound. Sometimes we wanna get up and we wanna scream and we wanna be angry bitches, and then sometimes we wanna sing and we want people to hear what we feel from our hearts. And I think that that's important as an artist, to be able to do both."

Carla continued: "And judging by the audience reaction when we go from one very, very heavy song to one lighter song, they love it. They have literally the same energy for both kinds of music. They want it too. People want the freedom to be able to like different types of music."

BUTCHER BABIES' latest album, 2017's "Lilith", was produced by Steve Evetts (THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, SEPULTURA, SUICIDE SILENCE) and marked the band's recording debut with drummer Chase Brickenden, who replaced Chris Warner in 2016.

In July 2019, longtime BUTCHER BABIES bassist Jason Klein announced his departure from the band. He has since been replaced by Ricky Bonazza.

Last year, BUTCHER BABIES embarked on a headlining tour, "Butcher Babies Vs. Goliath", which saw the band performing its debut album, "Goliath" — released in 2013 via Century Media Records — in its entirety along with recent hit singles and new material.

Hailing from the City of Angels, BUTCHER BABIES have released two Eps and three albums to date, with "Lilith", debuting at #1 on iTunes Metal chart and #7 on iTunes Rock chart. The band kicked off 2021 by independently releasing a handful of newly energized singles produced and co-written by Matt Good (FROM FIRST TO LAST),including "Bottom Of A Bottle", "Sleeping With The Enemy", "Yorktown", "Last Dance" and "It's Killin' Time, Baby!" The latter was inspired by the DC Comics character Lobo, a heavy metal bounty hunter.

It's Official: JOHN 5 Joins MÖTLEY CRÜE

It's Official: JOHN 5 Joins MÖTLEY CRÜE

MÖTLEY CRÜE has officially recruited John 5 as its new guitarist following Mick Mars's decision to no longer tour with the band.

Earlier today, MÖTLEY CRÜE released the following statement: "While change is never easy, we accept Mick's decision to retire from the band due to the challenges with his health. We have watched Mick manage his Ankylosing Spondylitis for decades and he has always managed it with utmost courage and grace.

"To say 'enough is enough' is the ultimate act of courage. Mick's sound helped define MÖTLEY CRÜE from the minute he plugged in his guitar at our very first rehearsal together. The rest, as they say, is history. We'll continue to honor his musical legacy.

"We will carry out Mick's wish and continue to tour the world as planned in 2023. No doubt will it take an absolutely outstanding musician to fill Mick's shoes so we are grateful that our good friend, John 5 has agreed to come on board and join us moving forward. We'll see all you Crüeheads out on the road!"

Added John 5: "I'm honored to carry on Mick's legacy and am looking forward to playing these songs."

A longtime friend of MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx, John 5 is one of the credited co-writers on the three original songs on CRÜE's "The Dirt" soundtrack and he is also a member of L.A. RATS, the supergroup featuring Sixx, Rob Zombie and drummer Tommy Clufetos.

John 5's involvement with MÖTLEY CRÜE as the band's new guitarist was first reported as a rumor by the Metal Sludge web site on October 7.

Speculation about John 5 replacing Mars gained strength after the longtime ROB ZOMBIE guitarist failed to appear with the shock rocker at this year's Aftershock festival in Sacramento. Rob was instead joined on stage by returning guitarist Mike Riggs for the first time since 2006.

John 5 has performed MÖTLEY CRÜE songs a number of times in the past. Back in 2018, John 5 was joined by Sixx along with ANTHRAX's Scott Ian and his wife Pearl Aday at the Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood, California to play a cover of "Shout At The Devil". Earlier this year, the guitarist ran through renditions of both "Home Sweet Home" and "Kickstart My Heart" at various shows on his U.S. tour.

John 5 spoke about his close friendship with Sixx in a 2019 interview with Outburn. At the time he said: "Nikki, he's my best friend. We love each other. He has inspired me and taught me so much about life in general. He's a phenomenal songwriter, lyricist, author, everything. He's always telling me to listen to this audio book or see this movie. He has a happy marriage, a happy life, a successful band he started from the ground up. He's one of the most inspiring people. He'll text me all the time to read something or try something. It's wonderful. He's a phenomenal photographer as well. I remember him telling me that he’s going to take bass lessons again and get into playing with his fingers. He was so dedicated. We worked on 'The Dirt' soundtrack together. When we went into the studio, he did it all with his fingers. [MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer] Tommy Lee was like, 'Look at you.' He's just such a dedicated person. I loved ['The Dirt'] movie; it was killer."

Mick's retirement was officially announced on Wednesday via a statement from his representative to Variety. The statement said: "Mick Mars, co-founder and lead guitarist of the heavy metal band MÖTLEY CRÜE for the past 41 years, has announced today that due to his ongoing painful struggle with Ankylosing Spondylitis (A.S.),he will no longer be able to tour with the band. Mick will continue as a member of the band, but can no longer handle the rigors of the road. A.S. is an extremely painful and crippling degenerative disease, which affects the spine."

Back in 2013, CRÜE singer Vince Neil said that Mars's ongoing battle with Ankylosing spondylitis, a painful form of chronic arthritis that causes vertebrae in the spine to fuse together, as well as the band's desire to "go out on top" were the primary reasons for CRÜE's decision to call it quits after 2015. "It's just time," Neil said nearly a decade ago. "Mick's health is not that good, and touring is tough on him. I'm sure in five, 10 years' time, we'll probably do something together again, but it's not gonna be like a KISS farewell to the farewell to the farewell tour. We're not gonna be like that."

CRÜE drummer Tommy Lee echoed Vince's comments at the time, telling Canadian progressive-house music producer and performer Deadmau5 in a video: "Our guitar player, Mick, he has a spinal disease that's slowly fusing his vertebrae together. It's one of those things that's treatable, but not curable. So it's just progressively getting really worse and it's painful for him, so he doesn't wanna tour much longer. I can't say I blame him… The last thing we ever wanna do is go out running on two cylinders with some hired guy playing guitar; that's just wack. So we wanna go out with one big hurrah with the original guys and be done with it."

However, in an October 2013 tweet, Mars painted a different picture, claiming that his medical condition had never affected his playing. "Once again, any rumors regarding a farewell tour due to 'my poor health is BS," he wrote. "I am doing fine, my AS has never kept me from touring." He added: "Thank all of you for knowing the truth… When I'm done touring, you'll hear it from me."

The 71-year-old Mars has struggled with Ankylosing spondylitis since his late teens and spoke about his first experiences with it in CRÜE's 2001 biography "The Dirt".

"My hips started hurting so bad every time I turned my body that it felt like someone was igniting fireworks in my bones," he said. "I didn't have enough money to see a doctor, so I just kept hoping that I could do what I usually do: will it away, through the power of my mind. But it kept getting worse. Then, one afternoon while doing my laundry. I started having trouble breathing. At first, it felt like someone had plunged a knife into my back. But as the weeks passed, the pain kept moving around my back. Next, my stomach started burning, and I worried that my whole body was about to fall apart. I thought that there was a hole in my stomach, and acids were leaking out and destroying my bones and organs. I'd grab hold of doorknobs, anchor my legs into the ground, and pull with my hands to stretch my back and ease the pressure out."

Mick told Metal Sludge in 2008 that his condition had worsened in the later decades and that he stopped playing guitar for almost two years. "Nowadays, it's not so bad, but back then when I was high on all that stuff and MÖTLEY were having a break, I knew if I didn't stop, I was gonna die. In the end, I had to go to a neuro-psychiatrist to straighten me up, and he said to me, 'Just hold the guitar for an hour a day — don't play it, just hold it.' It was pretty bizarre but I got through it, and in the end, I think I'm actually a better player because of it."

Last week, it was announced that MÖTLEY CRÜE and DEF LEPPARD will go global in 2023 with their co-headline "The World Tour". Produced by Live Nation, the trek will kick off on February 18, 2023 at Foro Sol in Mexico City and include stops throughout Latin America before heading to Europe in May 2023.

DREAM THEATER's JOHN PETRUCCI Weighs In On Use Of Backing Tracks At Live Concerts

DREAM THEATER's JOHN PETRUCCI Weighs In On Use Of Backing Tracks At Live Concerts

In a new interview with Guitar World magazine, DREAM THEATER guitarist John Petrucci was asked for his thoughts on some of his contemporaries using backing tracks in the live setting. He said: "It depends on what people are doing because some people don't tour with their whole bands, so they have sound effects and things going on. If they're up there playing their asses off, and they have some sound effects backing that up while they're doing it, that doesn't really bother me. Having said that, I think that if anybody's up there faking it or pretending, that's a whole different thing. But I think things have changed a lot; you'll have a lot of bands that just go out with two guys now, maybe it's just a guitar player and a drummer, so they need a pre-recorded bass player. If that's the case, then I guess they have to do what they have to do to keep the show going. So, while I am not for people fake playing, it really depends on the situation."

This past March, DREAM THEATER singer James LaBrie pushed back against allegations that he uses pre-recorded vocal tracks during live performances. The rumor that LaBrie has been relying on pre-recorded backing tracks gained strength in February after fan videos of DREAM THEATER's current North American tour were shared on YouTube. Some fans have pointed specifically to the post-chorus of the DREAM THEATER song "Bridges In The Sky" where the alleged lip syncing occurs.

LaBrie finally addressed the Internet chatter during DREAM THEATER's concert this at Bayou Music Center in Houston, Texas. He told the crowd: "I'm gonna fucking clarify something for you now, okay? People have been saying I'm fucking lip syncing? Fuck you. Fucking, what is wrong with people online?"

He then apologized to the audience for his outburst, noting that he and his DREAM THEATER bandmates launched their current tour more than six weeks ago. "I guess I'm losing my mind because I'm almost at the end of a [tour] leg," he said.

In recent years, more and more artists have been given a pass for relying on pre-recorded tracks, drum triggers and other assorted technology that makes concerts more synthetic but also more consistent. For better or worse, pre-recorded tracks are becoming increasingly common for touring artists of all levels and genres and they're not just used in pop music — many rock artists utilize playback tracks to varying degrees.

Earlier this month, Sebastian Bach and Ronnie Radke engaged in a war of words on Twitter over FALLING IN REVERSE's decision to cancel a festival appearance due to "missing" laptops.

Just hours before FALLING IN REVERSE was supposed to appear at the WIIL Rock festival on September 24 at Lake County Fairgrounds in Grayslake, Illinois, the singer and his bandmates scrapped their performance because their laptops — which the musicians use to "run" their "show" — were lost. At the time, Radke said in a video message that he and his bandmates had "no other option" because "as a band in 2022, you need your laptops. It's like driving a car without an engine."

One person who seemingly defended Radke and FALLING IN REVERSE is MÖTLEY CRÜE's Nikki Sixx. The bassist wrote: "Keep beating that fake bullshit drum. Sounds so 'Get Off My Lawn'. God forbid if some artists use technology as a creative tool on albums and in live settings. I get it. Just open your mind and stop fighting reality. Makes you sound outta touch and I like that you fly the rock flag."

In March 2020, SHINEDOWN guitarist Zach Myers said that "90 percent" of rock artists use at least some pre-recorded tracks during their live performances. He told Rock Feed: "It bothers me that it bothers people. I'm, like, 'Why does this bother you?' It's the way it is. People have been doing this since the '80s. And we want the sound to be the best it can be. Could we go up there, just the four of us, and put on the best rock show ever? Of course. But that's not how we wanna do it."

Bach previously said that he is "one of the last people" who are still not using pre-recorded tracks at their live shows. "I don't know how much longer I can say to you that I don't use tapes onstage, because I don't, and I never have," he told Consequence Of Sound. "And I still don't. When I have opening bands, and they're using tapes, and then I come out and I don't use tapes… sometimes, it makes me feel stupid, because I'm like, 'What am I doing, when all these kids half my age can come onstage and do all of my moves, but they don't have to warm up for an hour before the show, or weeks, before the first show?' Sometimes, I'm like, 'Why do I even bother, if the public is so used to this other way?' It's becoming very rare to come see a good band that's actually a real band — that's not miming or doing silly moves while a tape is running. It just becomes more rare as the years go on."

In 2019, IRON MAIDEN guitarist Adrian Smith said that he doesn't "agree" with certain rock artists relying on pre-recorded tracks during their live performances. "I tell you what, I see it with a lot of younger bands, and I don't think it's a good thing at all," he told the New York Post. "I mean, the music is getting too technical now. You have computerized recording systems, which we use, but I think we use them more for convenience than because we need to. We've toured with a couple bands that use tapes — it's not real. You're supposed to play live; it should be live. I don't agree with using tapes … I think it's a real shame."

Sixx has been open about MÖTLEY CRÜE's use of taped vocals during live performances, saying, "We've used technology since '87." He added the group employed "sequencers, sub tones, background vox tracks, plus background singers and us. [MÖTLEY CRÜE also taped] stuff we can't tour with, like cello parts in ballads, etc.... We love it and don't hide it. It's a great tool to fill out the sound."

In a 2014 interview, MÖTLEY CRÜE guitarist Mick Mars admitted that he wasn't comfortable with the fact that his band used pre-recorded backing vocals in its live shows, claiming that he preferred to watch groups whose performances are delivered entirely live. "I don't like it," he said. "I think a band like ours… I have to say '60s bands were my favorite — '60s and '70s bands — because they were real, like, three-piece bands or four-piece bands, and they just got up there and kicked it up. Made a mistake? So what? Sounded a little bit empty here or there? So what? It's the bigness and the rawness and the people that developed and wrote the songs and made them and presented them. To me, that's what I really like. I mean, I could put on a MÖTLEY CD and play with it all day long. I don't wanna do that."

KISS lead singer Paul Stanley, who has been struggling to hit the high notes in many of the band's classic songs for a number of years, has been accused of singing to a backing tape on KISS's ongoing "End Of The Road" tour.

Back in 2015, KISS bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons slammed bands who used backing tapes for not being honest enough to include that fact on their concert tickets.

"I have a problem when you charge $100 to see a live show and the artist uses backing tracks," Simmons said. "It's like the ingredients in food. If the first ingredient on the label is sugar, that's at least honest. It should be on every ticket — you're paying $100, 30 to 50 percent of the show is [on] backing tracks and they'll sing sometimes, sometimes they'll lip sync. At least be honest. It's not about backing tracks, it's about dishonesty.

"There's nobody with a synthesizer on our stage, there's no samples on the drums, there's nothing," Gene continued. "There's very few bands who do that now — AC/DC, METALLICA, us. I can't even say that about U2 or THE [ROLLING] STONES. There's very few bands who don't use [backing] tracks."

IN FLAMES Guitarist BJÖRN GELOTTE 'Felt Isolated' And 'Useless' In Early Days Of Pandemic

IN FLAMES Guitarist BJÖRN GELOTTE 'Felt Isolated' And 'Useless' In Early Days Of Pandemic

In a recent interview with Joshua Toomey and the "Talk Toomey" podcast, guitarist Björn Gelotte of Swedish/American metallers IN FLAMES spoke about how he and his bandmates got through the early days of the coronavirus pandemic. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "Sweden was trying to not close down, so what they would do is restrict certain things. But in effect, it was basically closed down. We didn't have any martial law or any curfews or anything like that, but restaurants couldn't serve after a certain hour. But I think that we got it lightly compared to parts of the world.

"Everything we are as a band and as people is surrounding music — touring, recording, writing, talking about it, traveling, all that shit — everything just disappeared overnight," he continued. "It felt like overnight.

"We flew down to New Zealand for a show. We came down there — it's literally the other side of the planet. We got there and heard that we can't play and we can't possibly leave the country either; they were shutting down everything. And we had a few hours. And we managed to get out of the country. It was nothing that anybody really could foresee, obviously, so we weren't ready for it.

"I felt like shit the first couple of months," Björn admitted. "I felt isolated. I felt useless. I felt like I had no purpose. And that's a weird feeling, being my age and having done this for such a long time. So it was obviously frustrating. But eventually things started to — I wouldn't say 'loosen up,' but people got their heads around the situation, so socially it became less isolated. So we started hanging out, even if it wasn't in big groups or anything. We started jamming with friends and stuff. Music slowly came back to life, and eventually we could see some sort of light in the tunnel. At least we could keep our motors running by writing, creating, and put some of this negativity — turn it into something positive. Yeah, kind of distill those weird times and feelings into new music. And that's what happened."

IN FLAMES will release its fourteenth studio album, "Foregone", on February 10, 2023 via Nuclear Blast. The LP will feature the two songs IN FLAMES released earlier this year, "State Of Slow Decay" and "The Great Deceiver".

IN FLAMES performed "State Of Slow Decay" — which was produced by Howard Benson, mixed by Joe Rickard and mastered by Ted Jensen — live for the first time in June at the Sweden Rock Festival in Sölvesborg, Sweden.

This past March, Gelotte confirmed that IN FLAMES' upcoming album was once again recorded with Grammy-nominated producer Benson and Howard's longtime engineer Mike Plotnikoff.

In early July, singer Anders Fridén told Chaoszine about the songwriting process for the new IN FLAMES album: "Me and Björn, we live on different sides of [Sweden] — he lives in Gothenburg; I live in Stockholm — and we only saw each other once or twice during the whole pandemic. But towards the end, when we kind of felt like it's gonna open up for real, we started talking and then we decided to take a trip to the U.S. and just get the machine rolling again — write some stuff; just get things out of our system. So we spent some time — like, three weeks — in L.A. And then we flew home and had Christmas and so on, and then we flew back again and started recording stuff for real. But as soon as we got together, a few weeks in the writing process, it felt like it always has."

Anders went on to say that he and Björn "had to be in the same room" in order to maximize their songwriting efforts. "We feed off each other's energies and ideas and so on, and I don't think we can write apart," he explained. "I mean, we can, but it won't be the same. So we have to get in the same room and be amongst everyone in the band… Me and Björn, we are the ones that are writing everything. The other guys are obviously partaking and bringing in their energy and their skills to the band, but when it comes to the writing, it's not much different."

In August 2020, IN FLAMES released a special 20th-anniversary edition of its seminal, critically acclaimed album "Clayman". "Clayman 20th Anniversary Edition" came entirely remastered by Ted Jensen (PANTERA, DEFTONES, GOJIRA) and featured all-new artwork in a 16-page booklet, a brand-new instrumental medley plus four re-recorded versions of fan favorites such as "Only For The Weak" and "Pinball Map".

KAMELOT To Release New Studio Album In Early 2023

KAMELOT To Release New Studio Album In Early 2023

KAMELOT's long-awaited new studio album will finally be released in early 2023. Among the working songtitles set to appear on the follow-up to 2018's "The Shadow Theory" are "Bloodmoon", "Eventide", "Awakening", "Midsummer's Eve", "The Great Divide", "Opus Of The Night" and "Pantheon". The artwork for the new LP will be helmed by Giannis Nakos.

In a 2020 interview with The Metal Mixtape, KAMELOT's Thomas Youngblood spoke about the songwriting approach for the band's next album. Expressing the need to create something engagingly familiar yet altogether unique, the guitarist said: "Obviously, there's a balance between making an album that fans expect but then doing things slightly different so you're not repeating yourself. And we're pretty good at that, I think. The team that I have with me are really good at going, 'Hey, we've kind of done this. Let's do something different.'

"When it comes to music, especially metal, people expect a certain thing," he continued. "So we always try to have this sort of DNA with each record, but also kind of make them different. This new album is gonna have that same kind of approach — we have a lot of different, new kind of elements or influences, but then there's gonna be stuff that people really expect and that they're, like, 'Okay, this is KAMELOT.' So it's a little bit of a balance. You don't wanna be redundant. That's definitely not our goal. We wanna have every record be different."

In October 2020, Youngblood told the "Rockum" radio show that he and his bandmates had "pretty much narrowed it down to 12 songs" that would be recorded for KAMELOT's new album. "We're gonna be working with Sascha Paeth again on production," he said. "And we're very excited."

In August 2020, Youngblood told A&P Reacts that KAMELOT had 25 songs to pick from for the new LP. He said: "Having Tommy [Karevik, vocals] now as one of the songwriters has been killer; he's coming out with really cool stuff. And then, of course, Oliver [Palotai, keyboards] and myself, and having Alex [Landenburg] now as our drummer; he's got a lot of cool ideas. What a cool guy Alex is. So, yeah, it's gonna be exciting."

KAMELOT's latest DVD and Blu-ray, "I Am The Empire - Live From The 013", was released in August 2020 via Napalm Records. The 21-song set was recorded at 013 in Tilburg, Netherlands and includes more than 100 minutes of live music and multiple exclusive extras, including backstage interviews of all guests, bandmembers and fans. Featured guest musicians include Alissa White-Gluz (ARCH ENEMY),Elize Ryd (AMARANTHE),Charlotte Wessels (DELAIN) and Lauren Hart (ONCE HUMAN).

"The Shadow Theory" was released in April 2018 via Napalm Records. The follow-up to 2015's "Haven" was helmed by Paeth and mastered by Jacob Hansen. Guests on the album include Hart, Jennifer Haben (BEYOND THE BLACK) and Paeth. The cover artwork was created by Stefan Heilemann.

Last year, Karevik spoke to #MetalTalk about what it was like to replace KAMELOT's longtime frontman Roy Khan a decade ago. The Swedish singer has appeared on the band's last three studio albums, 2012's "Silverthorn", 2015's "Haven" and the aforementioned "The Shadow Theory".

"I never thought about it as, 'I'm gonna replace someone,' to be honest," Tommy said. "I thought about it as I wanna honor the legacy that was already there but bring something new into the fold as well. I thought of it as a huge challenge, of course. But my view on it was never, 'I'm gonna go in and replace this guy,' because I know he was loved, and he is still loved, in the metal community, and he will always be loved because of his talent and what he brought to the table with [Roy's pre-KAMELOT band] CONCEPTION and KAMELOT. I never thought that that was my job to go in and replace him. I just wanted to take on what he had going for the band and just bring me — my personality and my energy.

"In many ways, it's a different band," he continued. "It's a little bit of a different energy now. But still, people have all these albums that they can listen to from the beginning, and they have new albums, and they will continue to have new albums with great songs. That's kind of my take on it."

Karevik also talked about the KAMELOT fans' response to his addition to the band. "I have to say, it's never an easy thing, especially coming in after someone that was so renowned," he said. "Thinking back, in hindsight, it couldn't have gone any better, to be honest. I'm so happy that the fans were so accepting and really welcomed me with open arms. So I have only positive things to say about that. I thought it was gonna be more stressful, with the metal community often maybe living in the past a little bit, here and there.

"If I think about my favorite albums, for example, of my favorite bands, I also live in the past," he admitted. "Let's just be real — I glorify some of the stuff in the past. And I think, 'Ah, it's never gonna be the same again.'

"If my favorite band had to replace its singer, I don't know what I would do. So I come from the same thought. So that's why I'm so happy that everyone, or most of the people, were so welcoming."

Guitarist JEFF LOOMIS Shares Live Fan Cam Video Featuring "Miles Of Machines" Performance

Guitarist JEFF LOOMIS Shares Live Fan Cam Video Featuring "Miles Of Machines" Performance

Guitarist Jeff Loomis (Arch Enemy, Nevermore) has shared another solo live performance video via his official YouTube channel. Check it out below.

Loomis: "Found this cool video of my performance of 'Miles Of Machines' in Winnipeg, Canada. Thanks to the user who uploaded this. Super cool of you to share, dude!"

Loomis, who was one of the founding members of Nevermore, recently shared a new instructional video on how to play the band's song "Born". The track is taken from Nevermore's 2005 album, This Godless Endeavour.

Nevermore was formed in 1991, releasing seven albums before going on indefinite hiatus in 2011. In April 2015, frontman Warrel Dane confirmed that Nevermore had not disbanded, and there was a possibility for them to continue in the next two years with another album. However, Dane passed away in December 2017, ending hopes of a reunion.

In partnership with All-Pedal, Loomis announced the release of his signature pedal, “The Devil’s Triad”, which will be available exclusively on Reverb.

Said Loomis, “We have put so much blood, sweat, and tears into this project to absolutely dial in my tone. From developing the circuit to the artwork design, we have had a blast putting this thing together for you guys, and I really hope you all dig it. I look forward to seeing you guys shred with this thing!”

Designed by Loomis to be his all-in-one pedal, The Devil’s Triad has drive, boost, delay, and reverb functionality, and has the ability to be used as a preamp. Loomis also worked with All-Pedal to replicate his presets into Lead Guitar, Rhythm Guitar, Delay Cascade options.

Even better - everyone who purchases one of The Devil’s Triad signature pedals will be entered to win a Jeff Loomis Signature Jackson 7- string guitar, Gator hard guitar case and Gator guitar stand through All-Pedal.

Check out the full video of Loomis shredding through his walkthrough of the pedal below, and find more information here.
