Heirs Of The Dog: A Tribute To Nazareth is the third in a series of charity oriented tribute albums by Memphis-based band Joecephus and the George Jonestown Massacre. This album is their take on Nazareth's iconic and career-making, best-selling double platinum LP, Hair Of The Dog.

Anchored and master-minded by co-producers Dik LeDoux and Joey Killingsworth, the band itself features a small cast of rotating characters and the albums feature special guests. Oceanis, a progressive metal band from Liverpool, has dropped their new single “Innate”. The epic track was mixed by George Lever (Sleep Token, Loathe) and features guttural vocals and riffs for days, all before giving way to a clean vocal section.

The track is part of a concept album called Progenitor, “Humanity is spilt into two very opposing factions, both a different species from one another: ’Youths’ and ‘The Elders’. When one comes to the end of its life cycle, their bodies regenerate and they become the opposing species,” the band explain. “Existing alone and with the ability to self-replicate, a third and more sinister class of humanity has now been born and threatens the existence of all life, not only one this world but across the universe… Queue heavy riffs.”

Referencing influences such as Gojira, Lamb Of God and Mastodon, Oceanis meld these different sub-genres together resulting in brutal riffs and unpredictable song structures.

Rap icon DMX - born Earl Simmons - passed away on April 9th, 2021 following a catastrophic cardiac arrest. Sam Astaroth, the Toronto-based frontman for Astaroth Incarnate, has paid tribute to him with a cover of the DMX hit, "Stop Being Greedy". Check it out below.

"Stop Being Greedy" is taken from the DMX debut album, It's Dark And Hell Is Hot, released in May 1998.

Sam: "DMX was one of my favorite artists growing up throughout my teen years. His vocals and lyrics were a huge influence on me towards developing my own harsh rap vocal style and eventually led me to doing extreme metal vocals. 'Stop Being Greedy' is one of my favorite songs by him and I was devastated by his unfortunate passing, so I wanted to cover this song to pay my respects to DMX the great. I got my good friend Nicholas Asis from Peru to help me out with additional rhythm and lead guitars on top of the original tune to make the song cater to two genres I absolutely love, rap and metal. If you loved DMX as much as I did then I hope you will resonate with this cover." 

Toronto-based black metal band Astaroth Incarnate recently released a new EP, entitled Ascendance. It includes a cover of the Cradle Of Filth classic "Her Ghost In The Fog" featuring guest appearances from Hexenklad / former Eclipse Eternal frontman Voldemars and Alina Snowmaiden. They have released an official video for the track, which can be viewed below.

Guitarist Luke Appleton (Absolva, Iced Earth) was previously a session musician for Blaze Bayley. He's now fully joined the ranks on guitar.

Blaze explains: “I am very excited to have the magnificent talent of Luke Appleton added to my touring band. He is in the the role of power guitarist. The first thing we tried with the new lineup was the live stream from KK Downing’s venue (KK’s Steel Mill) and it felt outrageously good! Can’t wait for my fans to see and hear the new lineup playing live. This is turning into an amazing year. Congratulations Luke! Welcome to the Blaze Bayley team of metal warriors!”

Luke responds: “I have worked with Blaze on numerous projects over the last 11 years and I am very proud to now be a full-time touring member of the Blaze Bayley band. With a balance between aggressive sound, rough and tough vocals, and instrumental variety, the new thrash metal band Válvera continues to promote their album Cycle Of Disaster, released in 2020 on the label Brutal Records. With great production, the band unveils the music video for the track “The Damn Colony”.

Based on one of the worst episodes in Brazilian history, the song tells about the Hospital Colônia de Barbacena, the psychiatric hospital founded in 1903. With a capacity of 200 beds, the hospital housed an average of 5,000 patients and became known for the genocide that occurred between the '60s and '80s. Official estimates report over 60,000 deaths occurred inside the wards due to medical malpractice and torture over the years. Italian Psychiatrist Franco Basaglia compared the place to a Nazi concentration camp.

“We chose this song precisely because it is a delicate theme and very little publicized in our country, and also because it is one of the best songs on the album. The hospital was designed to contain the undesirable. About 70% of the inmates had no diagnosis of mental illness. There were sent 'unpleasant and uncomfortable people', such as political opponents, prostitutes, homosexuals, beggars, among other marginalized groups in society. As artists, we have an obligation to speak, to be the voice of the people, to ask questions so that episodes like this will never be repeated”, comments the band in an interview with Metal Hammer Portugal.

Sarah: "The video and song  is about how we are judged, how we let negativity hold us back. How people’s vindictive actions can change our path  in life, sometimes resulting in the worst possible outcome. As an example, online bullying and trolling can take its toll on children, which has lead to an increase in child suicide. 

I wanted a bunch of people to come together without a fear of being judged.   I wanted people to be themselves and not give a damn. It seems these days we are afraid of being stupid, afraid of just letting ourselves go! 

From experience, I have let peoples views get the better of me, we all have. Being told I wasn’t good enough, being dictated to so it holds me back and destroying my dream. Suddenly something or someone wakes you up, some one woke me up, followed by a lot of other people agreeing with her and then supporting me. You learn not to give a damn anymore and you understand that confidence is envied. Don’t hurt any one or anything, but don’t let nastiness destroy you."

Prosthetic Records reveal new signing Domination Campaign - an offshoot from Tasmanian death metal titans Psycroptic - and announce their forthcoming debut album, Onward To Glory, due out on July 9. Accompanying the signing and album announcement, the band have shared the release's lead single, "Death Before Dishonour", alongside a lyric video.

Speaking on signing to Prosthetic, the band comments: "We were really stoked to join with Prosthetic Records for this release as they’ve got a killer roster and we feel that we will be able to do great things with them."

On "Death Before Dishonour", the band adds: "'Death Before Dishonour' was the first track written for the album and it really set the bar for how the rest of the album would be... straight forward and heavy as fuck."

Formed by Psycroptic vocalist Jason Peppiatt, Domination Campaign started out as a solo project, but soon evolved to include bandmate Joe Haley on drums, as well as handling engineering duties.

Eschewing technicality in favour of straight up brutality, Onward To Glory is an eight track bludgeoning of epic proportions. Originally a vehicle to experiment with a different approach to music, Domination Campaign proved to be a creative outlet during enforced downtime during 2020; Onward To Glory was recorded, mixed and mastered in July 2020.

Conjuring up an old school death metal vibe, Domination Campaign take their lyrical cues from renowned battles throughout history, giving them a fictional slant in the re-telling. Describing his approach as ‘bone basic’, Peppiatt has succeeded in putting together an album that scratched his itch to experiment, whilst delivering a headbanger’s delight of an album.

As well as performing all vocals, guitar and bass for the album, Peppiatt also created the cover artwork. Keeping everything ‘in-house’ has resulted in a project that has spawned a self-assured, crushing beast of a debut.

Kitchener metal band Invicta has released a video for their cover of Iron Maiden's "Killers". The song is from the upcoming Kitchener-Waterloo Metal Cover Compilation.  

The band commented, "We are so stoked to be finally releasing this video! We had a blast making it and we hope our fans and Iron Maiden fans have a blast watching it! We wanted to pick old school metal songs we all liked that were also suitable in style for each band. It's our best effort to pay tribute to the '80s and early '90s metal that influenced each of our bands."

Banger Films has released all eight episodes from "Heavy Metal Hitchhiker", the original comedy web series produced by its digital division BangerTV. You can now watch them below.

The series is directed and co-written by Marc Ricciardelli ("Shredders Of Metal", "Protest The Hero: Of Our Own Volition") and stars comedian Garrett Jamieson and is soundtracked by music from POWER TRIP, CARCASS, MUNICIPAL WASTE, EARTHLESS and POSSESSED, as well as a slew of Canadian artists such as EXCITER, KEN MODE, PROTEST THE HERO, CANCER BATS, MOUNT CYANIDE, SARIN and SMOULDER.

This action-packed comedy series follows a day in the life of Mitch, a heavy metal-loving gas station attendant, who stumbles upon an abandoned guitar that belongs to his favorite band, RÄGR. In a moment of happenstance, Mitch realizes that he must follow in his father's roadie-shaped footsteps and return the six-stringed axe to the band in time for their headlining concert. Five years after releasing their sophomore album Invoke The Bizarre, Bangalore’s Bevar Sea used the COVID-19 imposed lockdown as an opportunity to regroup and start working on their third album, titled The Timeless Zone.

Legendary Fleetwood Mac guitarist Peter Green passed away, peacefully in his sleep, on July 25, 2020. For the past four years, Peter worked directly with Rufus Publications to produce a huge, illustrated visual book of his life and career. During this time a book of rare images, memorabilia, lyrics and notes from his time in Fleetwood Mac and beyond has been assembled with Peter having full control over the book's direction and details.

During the evolution of the book it was decided to include some unique music as part of the project. A newly discovered vocal take by Peter, recorded in the late sixties in his mother’s house on a tape recorder, of "Need Your Love So Bad" formed the basis of the first song with guitars provided by Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour, a huge fan of Peter’s work. The track was produced by Laurie Latham. Peter heard and approved  mixes of the track. Listen below:

The second track chosen was "Man Of The World" and Kirk Hammett of Metallica, another huge Peter Green fan and current owner of the legendary Greeny guitar, was approached and quickly joined the project. He flew into London and on January 6, 2020 he went into London’s Abbey Road with producer Rob Cass to record the guitar parts for his revised vision of the song, all using Greeny.

The following day Kirk went down to Canvey Island to meet with Peter and hand him Greeny once more but also to play him the guitar parts to "Man Of The World". Again Peter approved the music and approach. The track has now been mixed and finished in LA with legendary producer Bob Rock and also features Mick Fleetwood on drums.

Both tracks have been recorded for the book project and offer widely different interpretations of Peter’s work.

The recording features guitarist Michael Schenker, who would leave the band in April 1979 during this tour. He was replaced by Matthias Jabs, who initially joined the band in 1978 when Uli Jon Roth departed but left temporarily when the Scorpions chose to keep Schenker in the line-up following the Lovedrive recording sessions.

On April 30th, British thrash titans Evile released their brand new studio album, Hell Unleashed, via Napalm Records - the band’s first album in eight long years. To coincide with the release, the band shared a guitar solo playthrough for the new song "Gore" courtesy of frontman Ol Drake. Check it out below.

Since their formation in 2004, Evile have been turning heads and taking names, delivering four pure thrash offerings blended with an uncompromising death metal assault. Hell Unleashed, the long-awaited successor to their 2013 release Skull, will make no exception - but this time, the album features a new exciting lineup formation of Ol Drake on vocals/guitars and new member Adam Smith of RipTide as rhythm guitarist.

Today, the band has released a final single before the album drops - the thunderous new track “The Thing (1982)”. Intoxicating guitars build up to an unconditional, heavy storm of thrash metal: “The Thing (1982)” and its razor-sharp arrangement delivers another rousing aspect of Evile's new album. Bold cinematic influences merge with breakneck speed riffs and Ol Drake’s brute, unyielding vocals, highlighting Evile's potent musical expertise.

Vocalist/guitarist Ol Drake comments: "The third and final single from Hell Unleashed is not only based on my favorite movie of all time, but it's a strong contender for my favorite song off the album. This track goes through so many cool changes, with frenetic vocals which mirror the subject matter, and we couldn't be prouder of not only this song, but the entire album it's featured on. Hell Unleashed is a raucous and masterful thrash metal attack! In just 41 minutes, the album unchains the unbridled forces of hell, catches some rousing demons of the past, and provides classical thrash metal with a contemporary yet hard-edged touch. The newly staffed four-piece strikes again on nine explosive tracks, leaving nothing but a hammering world of sound taken apart by thrash. Endangering guitar lines, which quickly build up to a furious thrash manifesto and attack the eardrum at breakneck speed, meet the merciless velocity Evile are known and loved for.

Hell Unleashed was produced by Chris Clancy at Backstage Studios, UK, and will not only feature explosive guest backing vocals from Brian Posehn, but also include a cover song.

Ol Drake adds: "This is the first album Evile have done to include a cover song in the tracklisting. I've been a big fan of death metal for a long time, and seeing as this album is on the more extreme side of thrash vocally and musically, we thought it was a perfect opportunity to cover Mortician's 'Zombie Apocalypse'. It has one of the greatest riffs in it! We're also very excited about the return of the legendary Michael Whelan (Sepultura, Obituary, Stephen King) as cover artist. He did the art for our second album and he's always a pleasure to work with."

In North America, Hell Unleashed will be available in LP format in black vinyl, as well as in limited edition red vinyl (limited to 200), CD Jewel Case and digital formats. Norwegian doom / goth metal pioneers Theatre Of Tragedy, who called it quits in 2010 and played their final show on October 2nd of that year, are gearing up to release a special 25th anniversary deluxe vinyl edition of the band's second album, Velvet Darkness They Fear, through Cosmic Key Creations. Following in the footsteps of the 25th Anniversary package released for the band's self-titled debut released in 2020, this deluxe edition of Velvet Darkness They Fear will feature brand new liner notes, bonus tracks, and unreleased photos from the band's vault.

Velvet Darkness They Fear was released on August 18th, 1996 via Massacre Records. It was issued in North America by Century Media Records in 1997. The album was produced, engineered and mixed by Pete Coleman, who would return to work on the band's third album, Aegis, released in 1998.

Serbian death/thrash metallers Infest will release their sixth studio album, Psychosis, on May 28 via Defying Danger Records.

Infest is a Serbian death/thrash metal band from Jagodina/Belgrade which strikes from 2002. From the early beginning, Infest carries the spirit of old school deathrash metal madness and have issued five full-length albums, two demos and two EPs.

Ross Dolan and Robert Vigna from Immolation guest on “The Last Creation” track while Igor Miladinovic (Chaosium) guested on “Hail Fire, Hail Death.” Roberto Toderico did the cover and Psychosis was mastered by Dan Swanö.

Initially joining the band in 2002 for the Hate Breeds Suffering album, Tomas Lindberg (Grotesque, At The Gates, Disfear) who also recorded the Necropolis Transparent and Play Fast Or Die - Live in Japan albums with Lock Up, is now back in the fold joining Kevin Sharp for more insane malevolent grind and death vokill attack.

Lock Up is currently recording the brand new album, The Dregs Of Hades, to be released via Listenable next fall. The Dregs Of Hades album will also feature new drummer Adam Jarvis (Misery Index, Pig Destroyer) on drums following Nick Barker’s departure last year.

Adam Jarvis comments: "When Shane first asked me to join the already elite league of extraordinary gentlemen I was beyond ecstatic! THEN.... I find out Tompa was rejoining the band and I went bananas! So excited for everyone to hear what madness we’ve created so far, and for a double assault from Kevin and Tompa that is bound to make you want to punch stuff!"

The man himself, Tomas Lindberg, is bloody chuffed: "I can't begin to explain how chuffed I am to be back with these, my favourite grinding beasts. When Shane approached me about rejoining, being part of a dual vokill attack together with Kevin, I said yes straight away. I love the Demonization album, and Kevin's vocal delivery there. So, I was very curious and excited to work together with him, writing and arranging lyrics. My idea is that we have very different vocal styles, and that deathgrind fans now will get the best of both worlds. Adding Adam Jarvis to the mix has been nothing but a success as well, his relentless bashing has mos def added an extra dimension to the Lock Up sound. It will be a total blast performing these new tracks in front of a crowd, these are full on old-school deathgrind ragers! Again; chuffed!"

Shane Embury adds: “I have said before on many occasions that creating songs, recording and playing shows with Lock UP since the band's inception in 1998 has always been hinged on madness and old-fashioned grindcore comradery! When we discussed the possibility of another album it made sense I felt to push the insanity further down the rabbit hole and ask Tompa to rejoin The Dregs of Hades to front the band alongside Kevin Sharp - ha! I have always loved that two singer approach, if done right it’s marvellous dynamics, and believe me, this next album is doing it right!!! When festivals do finally return it’s gonna be a lot of fun and that’s what counts in the end... be prepared!"

As guitarist Anton Reisenegger concludes: "A match certainly made in Hades. Can't wait to unleash the dual vomit storms!"

Just recently signed with Napalm Records, Crypta offer a raging sonic monster in a class of its own: the newly staffed Brazilian/Dutch death metal unit is set to drop jaws with their long-awaited debut offering, Echoes Of The Soul, to be released on June 11 via Napalm Records.

Formed in June 2019, the four-piece line up consists of vocalist and bassist Fernanda Lira and Luana Dametto on drums (both former members thrash metal frontrunners Nervosa), plus supremely talented guitarists Sonia Anubis (Cobra Spell, ex-Burning Witches) and Tainá Bergamaschi (ex-Hagbard). They enforce a heightened level of potency and experience from their successful past and current projects, enhancing influences from both classic and modern death metal genres, plus significant extreme and black metal elements, to create a sound of their own.

Echoes Of The Soul was recorded in January 2021 at the Family Mob Studio (Brazil), mixed by Arthur Rizk (Code Orange, Powertrip etc.) and mastered by the famed Jens Bogren (Opeth, Dimmu Borgir, Sepultura etc.). The cover artwork was created by Wes Benscoter, who is internationally famous for his stunning covers for bands such as Slayer, Kreator, Black Sabbath and many more.

Atmospherically dark and threatening, the 55-second intro “Awakening” prepares the listener for the oncoming ferocity of Echoes Of The Soul, dispensing murky, fiery fuel into the death metal machine. Their significant sonic texture derived from various death metal subgenres and traces of classic thrash becomes instantly evident as the album begins, reflective of the entirely vicious, infernal aura the 10-track debut is about to unleash. Crypta unbridle high-powered sonic demons and nourish cumulative, explosive energy with raging guitar riffs, Fernanda Lira’s unmistakable vocal color and Damettos's menacing drums. Tracks like “Starvation”, “Kali” and “Blood Stained Heritage” incite an uncontrollable storm of pure rage and belligerence, while offerings like “Under The Black Wings” and “Dark Night Of the Soul” deliver a message of pure hardness in perilous atmosphere. “Death Arcana” provides its listener further insight into Crypta’s sonic mastery and captivates with sprawling solos reminiscent of earlier times, yet spiced with a modern twist.

Crobot and Mascot Records have announced the global release of an EP titled Rat Child on June 18. The complete tracklisting features “Mountain” (featuring Frank Bello), “Kiss It Goodbye” (featuring Howard Jones), “Everyone Dies,” (featuring Stix Zadina), and “Rat Child.”

Singer Brandon Yeagley shares, “‘Kiss It Goodbye’ is a complete full-circle moment for us.  We’ve idolized Howard Jones’ ability to pinpoint the perfect melody since picking up our instruments and that dude is on beast mode here.  And those guitars sound like they’re right out of an Alien flick - This one is soaked in acidy-spit!”

He continues, “Howard was introduced to us through mutual friends. We have always been huge fans of his melodic footprint and his unique melodies. When we heard he would be interested in writing with us, we were beyond excited. He flew down to Austin and spent a few days in a studio with us. We had a such great chemistry with him and wrote this song.  We thought it was a shoe-in for being a track on Motherbrain but for whatever reason, it didn’t make the cut. It seemed like such a travesty to let such a great song sit on the shelf. So, we’re pumped to let the world hear it now.”

Howard Jones adds, “Had a great time writing ‘Kiss It Goodbye’ with Crobot! Their sound and energy is infectious, and there was no way I was passing up working with them. I hope you all dig it!” The music video was created and directed by William “Wombat” Felch.

When Bloodbound surfaced in 2005 with their debut album, Nosferatu, it was an album that celebrated the band's admiration for metal icons like Iron Maiden, Helloween and Judas Priest, recorded on a small budget with no visions of grandeur behind it. With eight studio albums, a live record and an EP under their belts since then, Bloodbound have returned in 2021 with album #9, Creatures Of The Dark Realm, and a renewed drive to take the band even further.

Creatures Of The Dark Realm descends with scarcely two years gone since Rise Of The Dragon Empire was unleashed. The three-headed songwriting team of keyboardist Fredrik Bergh, guitarist Tomas Olsson and vocalist Patrik Selleby started from scratch, compiling song ideas they collected individually and finally ending up with 11 solid in-your-face tracks kicked off by a deceptive acoustic intro.

On paper, Creatures Of The Dark Realm satisfies all the requirements of what makes a power metal band, but the listening experience is one of epic proportions. Not a single ballad in sight, the new album is an-up-tempo assault through the songs "Eyes Come Alive", "The Gargoyles Gate", "Ever Burning Flame", "The Wicked And The Weak" and the title track. Bloodbound is not afraid to change things up, however, offering up a heavy groove anthem with "Kill Or Be Killed" and straight-ahead commercial metal on first single, "When Fate Is Calling", always keeping things fresh from one song to the next.

After entering several international charts with their latest album, Curse Of Autumn, Witherfall are releasing a special cover of Boston’s illustrious “Foreplay/Long Time”, entitled “Long Time" (Long Version). The song has been available as an acoustic version on Curse Of Autumn, as well as slightly shorter Band Version on the Japanese edition of the album.

Witherfall about the song and video: “Witherfall are huge fans of Boston. We are obviously influenced by the rich guitar and vocal harmony work. Joseph grew up in upstate NY and Tom Scholz would come to his grandpa's lawnmower shop for repair work. Upon becoming interested in playing guitar Joseph would frequent Bank Place Guitars, a shop owned by Joe Bonamassa's father and Tom Scholz. Our Version of Boston's ‘Foreplay / Long Time’ is a tribute to one of the greatest voices in rock and roll history Boston vocalist Brad Delp who in 2007 tragically took his own life... The re-working of this song reflects the true emotions behind the lyrical content. RIP”

German epic death metal brigade Kambrium recently announced the release of their fifth studio album, Synthetic ERA on July 9th via Reaper Entertainment.
