REO SPEEDWAGON Wrap Up Legendary Career With Final Show In Las Vegas; Setlist, Video
On Saturday (December 21), REO Speedwagon performed their final concert at the Venetian Theatre in Las Vegas, Nevada. Some video from the show can be viewed below.
Back in September, REO Speedwagon announced that they "will cease touring effective January 1, 2025." The band shared the following message via social media on September 16:
"To our fans: [Bassist] Bruce [Hall] has intended to be Back On the Road Again by now [he underwent back surgery last November]. If it were up to just him, he’d be back on tour… but it's not up to just him. The consensus opinion was that he had not recovered sufficiently to be able to perform at the level the fans have come to expect. Bruce respected that opinion and is grateful that Matt [Bissonette] has been around to keep the Wagon rolling through the summer tour. Bruce never had any intention of retiring or walking away from the band, fans, and crew he has loved for almost 50 years.
"For Kevin’s part, he too has never had any intention of leaving the band, and the fans and crew mean the world to him, as well.
"Due to this complex situation, irreconcilable differences arose between Bruce and Kevin. So, it is with great sadness that we announce REO Speedwagon will cease touring effective January 1, 2025. Neal, Kevin, and Bruce thank their fans for all their years of loyal support and for giving back to the band such wonderful memories that will remain with each of them forever."
Kevin Cronin then opened up on the end of REO Speedwagon, and according to Billboard, he wants to make it perfectly clear that ending the band was not his idea, or desire. But he’s also “really excited” to still be riding the storm out, but under his own name.
“Never in my wildest dreams did I ever see this coming,” Cronin - who will make his solo debut on January 25 in Thackerville, Oklahoma, and will be part of next summer’s Brotherhood of Rock tour with Styx and former Eagles guitarist Don Felder - tells Billboard in his first interview about the situation. “I didn’t want to end REO Speedwagon. This is sad, and I would do anything in my power to continue (as) REO Speedwagon. I never quit the band; I never will quit the band. I just got outvoted and…have to stop calling it REO Speedwagon at the end of this year.”

REO Speedwagon performed the following setlist at their final show:
"Don't Let Him Go"
"Keep On Loving You"
"Follow My Heart"
"In Your Letter"
"Take It On The Run"
"Tough Guys"
"Out Of Season"
"Shakin' It Loose"
"Someone Tonight"
"I Wish You Were There"
"Music Man" (acoustic)
"In My Dreams" (acoustic)
"Time For Me To Fly"
"Keep Pushin'"
"Live Every Moment"
"Golden Country"
"Ridin' The Storm Out"
"Can't Fight This Feeling"
"Roll With The Changes"
Styx and Kevin Cronin, the iconic voice and writer behind REO Speedwagon's greatest hits, have one of the strongest brotherly bonds spanning 25 years, especially since they’ve crossed paths on the North American concert trail along with the occasional joint festival concert. Fittingly, next summer they’ll join forces for the sixth time for their "Brotherhood Of Rock" tour, along with special guest Don Felder (a former lead guitarist for the Eagles), that will kick off May 28, 2025 in Greenville, SC at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena.
It wouldn’t be summer without a live celebration of some of the greatest Rock anthems of all time, including “Renegade,” “Keep On Loving You,” “Come Sail Away,” “Can't Fight This Feeling,” and “Hotel California.”
The official trailer for the "Brotherhood Of Rock" tour can be seen below.
Styx and Kevin Cronin (as part of REO Speedwagon) first toured together in 2000 and in 2001 after the 9/11 attacks, they came together to form the Rock to the Rescue 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, which still collects donations for local charities at every stop on Styx’s on-going tour.
General tickets for the trek, produced by Live Nation, are on sale now at LiveNation.com.
“The winter of 1975 I had returned home to Montgomery, Alabama after accepting the fact that there was very little, if any interest from club owners for seven-piece rock bands who played their original songs, (some of which were 10 minutes long) and we’d finally accepted the reality that people wanted disco music hits to dance to,” says Styx singer/guitarist Tommy Shaw. “A musician friend from home called me about a steady gig he and two other local musician friends had in the lounge of the local bowling alley. There was no dance floor, only tables and chairs, and they were playing music from bands like the Eagles, Dan Fogelberg, etc. and singing three-part harmony to locals who were loving it and not wanting to dance. And a steady weekly paycheck! I joined them and spent the rest of that year playing whatever we liked, bought a modest house, bought a used car, and was relieved to be off the road after two years of night club managers who wanted us to play disco. Thinking I’d found a secure life in my hometown, I got a call from a guy named Jim Vosecek, who’d introduced himself to me and the band at a club in Chicago. He explained that he was tour manager of the rock band Styx, that they had just released a new album called Equinox, and they were scheduled to embark on their first national tour when a member suddenly quit and left the band. He said to get on the plane they’d booked and come audition. Arriving at O’Hare airport, I met Kevin Cronin who was returning to rejoin his band, REO Speedwagon. It was the beginning of a lifelong friendship that finds us back on the road together, this time under much different circumstances! The BROTHERHOOD of ROCK is stronger than ever!”
“I remember seeing Tommy’s seven-piece funk/rock band at the Rush Up club in Chicago, during my mid-‘70s REO hiatus, and then bumping into him at O’Hare Airport a few weeks later,” remembers Kevin Cronin. “In no time I was back in REO Speedwagon and Tommy had become the newest member of Styx. REO and Styx dominated the Billboard charts in 1981 with Hi Infidelity and Paradise Theatre, but for reasons unknown we had never toured together. So in the year 2000, Tommy and I decided to give it a shot. The ‘Arch Allies’ tour was a smashing success, and a life-long friendship was formed. Now, here we are 25 years later, having always had each other’s back, and psyched for our bands to join forces once again for the ‘Brotherhood of Rock’ tour. A lot has changed since that chance encounter at the airport in 1975, but our brotherhood has only become stronger through the years, as the songs of Styx and REO Speedwagon have found a place in the hearts and souls of people all across America.”
“I’m so excited to be hitting the road this summer with my friends Styx and Kevin Cronin,” declares Don Felder. “It’s such a great line up full of hit songs and lots of ROCK AND ROLL!!! We have so much fun together both on stage and off stage that it’s hard to find a more wonderful combination of great music and great friends. This is one show you won’t want to miss. See you soon.”

METAL ALLEGIANCE Is 'Talking About' Making New Music In 2025
In a new interview with RadioBypass, TESTAMENT guitarist Alex Skolnick was asked if there has been any talk of METAL ALLEGIANCE writing and recording a third album as the follow-up to 2018's "Volume II: Power Drunk Majesty". He responded (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "Yes. We've been talking about it for some time. It's always easier said than done, given everybody's schedules, but we're continuing to talk about it and I'm pretty sure that [2025] is the year we will get started on it. So I don't know what it's gonna look like, I don't know how it's going to compare to the past albums. Maybe we'll get our feet wet with an EP or a single — who knows? — but either way, we're gonna get started and see how it goes, probably later this [coming] year."
METAL ALLEGIANCE began as a celebration of heavy metal, powered by the almost tribal bond shared between the extreme music community's most revered trailblazers, armed with a list of contributors onstage (and off) that read like a Wikipedia entry on the genre itself.
Since METAL ALLEGIANCE's inception in 2014, the band is comprised of the core four members of: Mark Menghi on bass, Skolnick on guitar, David Ellefson (MEGADETH) on bass, and Mike Portnoy (DREAM THEATER) on drums.
Collaborative tribute experiences like HAIL! and METAL MASTERS eventually led to the founding of METAL ALLEGIANCE a decade ago.
The collective's raucous renditions of classic material from the likes of JUDAS PRIEST, IRON MAIDEN, OZZY OSBOURNE, THIN LIZZY, VAN HALEN and PANTERA in clubs, conventions and cruise ships inevitably led to the creation of an album of brand new material.
METAL ALLEGIANCE has issued two full-length albums so far, 2015's self-titled debut and "Volume II: Power Drunk Majesty", as well as an EP, 2016's "Fallen Heroes".
On January 23, 2025, METAL ALLEGIANCE will perform at the House Of Blues in Anaheim, California.
Joining the core four at the Anaheim gig will be Chuck Billy (TESTAMENT),Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth (OVERKILL),John Bush (ARMORED SAINT),Doc Coyle (BAD WOLVES, GOD FORBID),Brandon Ellis (THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER),Marty Friedman (MEGADETH),Gary Holt (SLAYER, EXODUS),Andreas Kisser (SEPULTURA),Jeff Loomis (ARCH ENEMY, NEVERMORE),Mark Tornillo (ACCEPT),Angel Vivaldi and more.
The night will be sponsored by Jackson Guitars, EVH Gear, Charvel Guitars and IK Multimedia and will include direct support from OTTTO. Opening the night are WICKED and LOST LEGACY.
As with their previous shows, expect a setlist that balances original material with classic covers of metal royalty.
The Anaheim show from last year drew rave reviews from the metal press, including Metal Talk saying, "If you weren't here, you definitely missed out on probably a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity." Also, the Vinyl District added, "Fans were treated to some of the very best metal has to offer from a supergroup that truly understands what a live musical performance should be. All hail METAL ALLEGIANCE!"
Menghi commented: "What we have planned for this one might be the most epic. Can't wait to return to our home away from home."
Portnoy said: "It's that time again! Every year, METAL ALLEGIANCE's annual shindig in Anaheim kicks off the year in true metal fashion and is always one of the coolest metal event of the year… can't wait to throw down once again in 2025!"
Skolnick said: "Earlier this year, MA played our first Anaheim show of the post-pandemic era. It was beyond epic and great to return to House Of Blues. It's hard to believe but it's already time to announce and plan for MA Anaheim 2025. As always this will be a whole new show with some added twists and a few special surprises. We'll see you in January!"
Ellefson said: "There's no better way to kick off the new year than throwing down with our friends in the METAL ALLEGIANCE neighborhood. Every year seems to get bigger and better… we'll see you at the show!"
Billy said: "It time to kick off the new year and to get together with our friends in METAL ALLEGIANCE for our traditional performance during the NAMM show. See you in the pit."
Holt said: "Best way to crush our way into 2025? With the world's foremost epic all star band of all time, METAL ALLEGIANCE! Cannot WAIT to jam again with all my friends!"
Coyle said: "It was less than a year ago, that I made my first appearance with METAL ALLEGIANCE, to be back with some of the best to ever to do it is an absolute honor. And as good as last year was, the goal is to make this year even better. I can't wait!"
Kisser said: It's that time again, the best and biggest metal jam in the world. I'm so ready for this, miss this vibe and good energy from these metal masters! Cant wait to see you all in January!"
Hey SoCal! We're coming back... again.
Metal Allegiance is entering their second decade together, and unlike most other...

LEAVES' EYES Release Orchestral Version Of "Sail With The Dead"
Symphonic metal vikings Leaves' Eyes released their new studio album, Myths Of Fate, earlier this year via AFM Records. They have revisited the record with an epic orchestral version of "Sail With The Dead". It is available via digital platforms found here.
With Myths Of Fate, the band set sails for new winds that definitely blow from the harsh shallows of the symphonic metal genre. The fantastic world of legends from Norse and Eastern European mythology is the setting for monumental entertainment: Leaves' Eyes open up a world of magical places, spellbound weapons or supernatural creatures.
Leaves' Eyes have always played in a league of their own. The international group has toured all populated continents, playing concerts in more than 50 countries, frequently reach top positions in the album charts and with every output they deliver a multimedia masterpiece when it comes to video clips and artwork.
In their multifaceted discography, Leaves' Eyes naturally integrate various genres such as folk metal, Viking metal or symphonic metal into their unique sound creations. Legendary releases like Vinland Saga (2005) or Njord (2009) made them pioneers in their own league, a position they successfully confirmed with chart-breakers like King Of Kings (2015) or Sign Of The Dragonhead (2018). Their compositions are complex, though, always well balanced between heaviness and melodic atmosphere. Each of their mind-broadening lyrical concepts based on mediaeval mythology are thoroughly researched, offering their audience journeys to the past times of Vikings, myths and sagas.
Their live shows are spectacular events with breathtaking stage scenery, including a Viking ship or even the “Swords In Rock” monument from Norway. Leaves' Eyes have been setting world history to music and undeniably, by doing so, have raced to the top of the symphonic metal tree.
Now, Alexander Krull once again exceeded his own standards in the producer’s chair. For the fine and complex compositions you will find on Myths Of Fate, he created an extraordinary and crystal-clear sound sphere with an undeniable live feeling. The band sounds raw and feisty, but still leaves space for affective atmospheres. The US soundtrack-multi-talent Jonah Weingarten contributes the impressive orchestral score that was created hand in hand with the metal arrangements. Moreover, Lea-Sophie Fischer (Eluveitie) on the fiddle and Thomas Roth’s play of the mediaeval Nyckelharpa add on mystical sounds to Myths Of Fate.
Leaves' Eyes have created an entire universe of their own imagination that showcases their talent as storytellers and music perfectionists. No doubt, the band will leave an everlasting footprint in their own genre with this album. Myths Of Fate provides a dynamic soundtrack for a vivid escape into a magical world of mythology. Four years after bringing The Last Viking to Valhalla with their previous opus, Leaves' Eyes resurrect with Myths Of Fate to celebrate their 20th year of existence. As the first single releases prove, with their ninth studio album, the band consolidates their leading position in the symphonic metal universe. Powerful, epic and impressive - Leaves' Eyes once again merge traditional metal genres by fusing elements of folk, gothic, and classical music into a captivating sonic masterpiece.
Order the album here.

SHADOWS FALL's JASON BITTNER Says He 'Hated' METALLICA And SLAYER When He First Heard Their Music
In a new interview with RichardMetalFan, SHADOWS FALL drummer Jason Bittner, who has also played with FLOTSAM AND JETSAM, OVERKILL and ANTHRAX, was asked to name the bands that first got him into metal. He responded in part (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "The band that got me into heavy metal, technically, is IRON MAIDEN. MAIDEN's my favorite metal band of all time. That was the first band I saw of that genre in 1980, the day that MTV came on the air. [Editor's note: MTV was officially launched on August 1, 1981.] I was 10 years old, and I was, like, 'What in God's name is this?' And that just sent me on my trajectory, MAIDEN and JUDAS PRIEST. But then once — uh, when did I get [METALLICA's] 'Ride The Lightning'? I wanna say, I think '84, a friend of mine let me borrow a record. He's, like, 'Oh, you've gotta check out this band.' And I'm, like, 'Who's METAL-LICA?' And he goes, 'No, it's pronounced METALLICA, man.' I'm, like, 'All right, cool. METALLICA. And I took it home and I hated it. I was like, 'God, what the hell is this?' 'Cause I was used to Bruce Dickinson and [Rob] Halford, and all of a sudden [I heard] James Hetfield, and I'm, like, 'What on earth is this?' I taped the album just in case I might like it one day, and I gave the record back to my friend. And a week later, I'm doing my paper route and I was humming [a riff]. I'm, like, 'What is this that I'm singing to myself?' And it was the riff from 'Fight Fire With Fire'. And I'm, like, 'Oh, that's that METALLICA band. I didn't think I liked that.' And that started that.
"A lot of the heavier bands, even bands I've been in, when I've heard the first time, I didn't care for," Jason admitted. "Like SLAYER — [I] hated SLAYER at first. I'm, like, 'No way I'm gonna like this.' SLAYER is my favorite thrash band of all time. ANTHRAX and MEGADETH were the only two that when I first listened, I wasn't, like, 'Aargh.' Like ANTHRAX, I was just, like, 'Holy shit.' That was the — no pun intended — the 'be all, end all' for me right there, because [ANTHRAX drummer] Charlie [Benante] was one step beyond [SLAYER drummer Dave] Lombardo for me at that point, because Lombardo was feet, but Charlie was the whole fucking package.
"So I was introduced to METALLICA first, then MEGADETH second, because there was a kid I went to school with and he was, like, 'Hey, there's this dude that was in METALLICA before Kirk Hammett.' Because I didn't know anything existed — I didn't know about the 'No Life 'Til Leather' demos and I didn't know about anything pre-'Kill 'Em All'. So I was, like, 'Kirk Hammett's the guitar player.' He was, like, 'Nah, this dude was in the band before him. And he's got this other band. And it's called MEGADETH.' And I was, like, 'Oh, all right.' And the first thing I heard was 'Killing Is My Business', but that was so raw at the time, I was, like, 'All right, it's kind of cool. It's fast and stuff.' But once 'Peace Sells' came out, I was, like, 'Oh, all right. Now I get it.' The production was way better [and] everything else that that came along with that.' Maybe a year after that or within that year, I got into SLAYER. A friend of mine had 'Show No Mercy' and he had let me hear that. And I wasn't really that impressed, but then 'Reign In Blood' came out maybe a couple of weeks after he let me borrow 'Show No Mercy'. And I bought that. I bought that, went on a spring break vacation my sophomore year of high school to Florida with my mom. And all I did was just I had 'Reign In Blood' in my Walkman — that's dating it, because it was 1985 [laughs] — in my Walkman on auto reverse. And that album was only 32 minutes long. I listened to that record just incessantly for a week straight and just the whole entire time going, 'Oh, I can't wait to get to my drums. I wanna play these songs,' because in my head, I knew all the drum parts, knew everything. I had no fucking clue how hard thrash metal drumming was and playing that fast was because, like I said, I was in the MAIDEN-JUDAS PRIEST camp still. Jumping on the kit and trying to play 'Angel Of Death' at 15 years old. I was, like, 'Oh my God. This is a lot harder than it sounds.' So it was SLAYER, then ANTHRAX, and it was basically through the 'Big Four' [of 1980s thrash metal]. And then everything else under the sun.
"Over the course of my life, I've tended to like the B- and C-level bands a lot, as in favorites, over some of the bigger bands," Bittner revealed. "I mean, for example, if you asked me, 'If you could only pick one, if it was either MEGADETH or FLOTSAM, what would you pick?' I'd pick FLOTSAM. If you could only listen to one and you're not allowed to listen to the other one again, I would pick FLOTSAM. And not because I was in the band. That was a love of that band for decades before I was even in it. Another one is WRATHCHILD AMERICA — one of my absolutely all-time favorite bands.
"So that was the trajectory into that," Jason added. "And then in the '90s… I've always been, and I've always said this, I've always been a thrash metal drummer. I'm not an extreme metal drummer. I like that stuff, but I can't blast that 240, 260 that stuff. It's out of my wheelhouse; it's not what I do. But I like a lot of those drummers and went through that whole phase in the mid-'90s immersed into DEATH and MORBID ANGEL and that stuff and listening to Pete Sandoval and Sean Reinert and Gene Hogan. So, my influences go across the board, really. And let's not forget VAN HALEN either."
Earlier in the month, SHADOWS FALL released a new single, "In The Grey". The track marked the band's first new piece of music in more than 12 years.
"In The Grey" was made available via SHADOWS FALL's new record label home, MNRK Heavy.

MÖTLEY CRÜE's TOMMY LEE Showers Only 'Once A Week', His Wife Says
MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer Tommy Lee's wife has revealed that he only showers "once a week".
Brittany Furlan discussed her husband's hygiene habits while appearing on Kaitlyn Bristowe's "Off the Vine" podcast.
"My husband's very neat, which people wouldn't expect from someone who's a musician," she said. "They would expect him to be a fucking nightmare, right? Like dirty… I mean, he doesn't shower a lot, but he's very neat. He doesn't make a mess there."
When Bristowe questioned Furlan about her comment that Lee doesn't shower a lot, the drummer's wife confirmed that "[he's] not big on the showers… I feel like that's European, though, 'cause Europeans… My husband was born in Greece. He was born in Athens, and his mother was Miss Greece, like so beautiful. And he said growing up, his mom, like, that's a thing in Europe. You don't need to shower every day. They would just do the white washcloth if they felt like they were getting a little funky. But shower, my husband showers, like, once a week."
The 38-year-old comedian and actress went on to say that she prefers to shower every day.
"I wash the hair like once a week, and then I shower every night," she revealed. "But that's the thing with me, is I'm overly clean. And I'm stripping my body of all the oils and stuff it probably needs."
Furlan insisted that she doesn't object to Lee's unconventional approach to cleanliness. "No, because he's so handsome," she explained. "It's really crazy. He's a really good-looking guy. He doesn't really give me the ick."
Furlan and Lee, who met on the dating app Raya in 2017 and married two years later, keep a house that "looks like a fucking museum," she said. "It's funny because the guys that I've dated before him were very messy, and that's a big yucky for me."
In his 2008 compilation of outrageous rock 'n' roll stories "Rock Star Babylon", Jon Holmes recounted how Lee and MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx once "decided to hold a competition between them to see who could go the longest without washing, showering or bathing in any way, yet still be able to sleep with groupies without them being ill or bailing out." As reported by Page Six at the time of the book's release, for two months, the duo had "nightly groupie sex" with up to four girls each — until finally, a young fan performing a sex act on Sixx became violently ill on him. It later became known as "The Spaghetti Incident" because the unfortunate groupie had eaten pasta beforehand.
Lee and Furlan made their first public appearance as a couple in September 2017 at the Streamy Awards in Beverly Hills. The following February, they got engaged while celebrating Valentine's Day. The pair got married exactly one year later, marking his fourth marriage.
Last year, Furlan told People that Lee is "the first guy that treats me so well. He just does all these really sweet things and I've never had anyone do that for me before. I can't believe now when I look back on all of the bad relationships that I was in."
Lee was previously wed to Elaine Starchuk from 1984 to 1985, Heather Locklear from 1986 to 1993 and Pamela Anderson from 1995 to 1998. Lee and Anderson share sons Brandon Thomas and Dylan Jagger.

During an appearance on a recent episode of "Talk Is Jericho", the podcast hosted by wrestling superstar and FOZZY frontman Chris Jericho, W.A.S.P.'s Blackie Lawless was asked if he was surprised by the fan response to the band's first couple of U.S. tours in 10 years, starting with the fall 2022 trek and continuing with the 40th-anniversary tour. He said: "We didn't know what to expect, but we found over the years, if you invest in what you do, hopefully you'll get return on it. And what I mean by that is you make the best records you can make, but also when it comes time to do the tour, you've gotta spend the money. This is not a cheap show that we do out here. It's expensive. It's expensive to get built, it's expensive to start up. The weekly running costs, you don't wanna know about it. I mean, it's not cheap. I understand that in a lot of situations, a lot of artists aren't able to do that, and I understand that, but this is not a situation where we do fly dates. We just can't. It's too expensive of a production. And we hope that the fans recognize that when they see what we do, because we literally take a Broadway stage with us when we go. We have two different — well, three, if you wanna get technical — but we have two primary set changes you will see between the first half of the show and the second half of the show. And it's just like seeing any other Broadway production, if you would go to New York or something like that. So to set that stuff up on a daily basis, you've gotta have a lot of personnel, you've gotta spend the money to start with, so it's detailed, to say the least. But that's the way we used to do it, and to try to give people the best bang for the buck, I still think that that's the best way to do it."
He added: "Hey, nobody likes boring. Nobody likes normal. Let's do something out of the ordinary. Let's dare to stick our heads up above the crowd and say, 'Look at me.' We've made a living doing it."
Asked if that was his mindset was from day one back in 1984 when he first started writing the W.A.S.P. songs, Blackie said: "Actually, no. Not at all. I tell you the truth, you're talking about a band now that never had any intention of ever playing live. Because in L.A., we knew in those days, with the major labels, you did not get record deals by playing live; you got record deals by making a great demo tape. So what we did is we recorded three different versions of what would eventually become our first record. And the last version that we did, we sent 'em out to the majors. Six weeks went by and we didn't hear anything. And we had lived in L.A. long enough to know that at the six-week mark, if you hadn't heard anything, you weren't going to hear anything. So, we talked amongst ourselves and we thought, 'You know what? We think these songs are okay. Why don't we take 'em out and play 'em live and see what kind of reaction we get?' Then we started asking ourselves, 'Well, what do you wanna do? You wanna stand there and look at your shoe tops and get arrested for loitering?' We had a very dark sense of humor. We were going out to flat-out entertain ourselves, and we would think up ideas and just start giggling. It's, like, 'Okay, let's do this.' But you quickly discover, there's a line between something that's outrageous and something that's ridiculous. And that line sometimes gets blurred."
Blackie continued: "When I came up with the idea of the saw blades, one of the guys that worked for us in the crew, his dad had a metal shop, but it was also a woodworking shop — a huge, huge complex. And we would go in there, and he gave us the run of the place. We built anything we wanted. And I came from a construction background, 'cause my dad had a construction company. so I knew how to build stuff. So we built all the early props there. And one day somebody had changed one of the saw blades. There was a table saw that had a 12-inch saw blade on it. And he took it out and he propped it up in the window. He was gonna move it, but for expediency, he just set it in the window so he could get the new blade in place. And I'm looking at it in the windowsill and I just started laughing. And the crew guys asked me, 'What's so funny?' I said, 'I just had the most insane idea.' I said, 'This is either gonna be the greatest thing ever, or I'm gonna get laughed out of town.' So that's where that line, where you don't always know… We look back at it now and say, 'Well, why didn't you recognize that from the beginning?' Because sometimes you don't know until you test it on people, and we did that with all those early props. We didn't know what was gonna work and what didn't, and fortunately for us, most of it worked."
Because of the extensive back injuries Lawless suffered during the European leg of W.A.S.P.'s 40th-anniversary tour, the band's previously announced 2023 U.S. tour was canceled.
W.A.S.P.'s massive European leg of the 40th-anniversary world tour wrapped on May 18, 2023 in Sofia, Bulgaria at Universidada Sports Hall.
W.A.S.P. wrapped up its first U.S. tour in 10 years with a sold-out show on December 11, 2022 at The Wiltern in Los Angeles. This marked the 18th sold-out shows for the U.S. tour, which kicked off in late October 2022. W.A.S.P.'s performances included the return of the band's classic song "Animal (Fuck Like a Beast)", which hadn't been played live in over 15 years.
W.A.S.P.'s latest release was "ReIdolized (The Soundtrack To The Crimson Idol)", which came out in February 2018. It was a new version of the band's classic 1992 album "The Crimson Idol", which was re-recorded to accompany the movie of the same name to mark the 25th anniversary of the original LP's release. The re-recorded version also features four songs missing from the original album.
W.A.S.P.'s most recent studio album of all-new original material was 2015's "Golgotha". | +4

SLAYER's KERRY KING: 'Metal Is More Of A Brotherhood Than Any Kind Of Music That I Can Think Of'
In a new interview with Australia's Blunt magazine, SLAYER guitarist Kerry King spoke about the band's multigenerational appeal. Asked if he thinks SLAYER's music "has traveled into younger generations", Kerry responded (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "I think so. I thought that 20 years ago. You would see older brothers bringing younger siblings or even parents bringing their kids because this kind of music isn't alienating in a family environment. You know what I mean? Like, it's not uncool if you like the same music your parents do. It's like, that's really cool. And this is one of the odd types of music that that is allowed. So, yeah, you see all kinds of… Like, the first show we did [with the] Kerry King [solo band], we did a small club outside of Chicago, and I saw a lot of older fans because they knew to go buy the tickets so fast because they're gonna go [quickly] — it was, like, a 400-seater; it was tiny. So there was a lot of our probably first-generation fans. But, yeah, all the time I see kids in SLAYER shirts, kids in Kerry King shirts, or METALLICA, MEGADETH. It's just the type of music, metal. Metal is more of a brotherhood than any kind of music that I can think of."
King's debut solo album, "From Hell I Rise", was released in May. All material for the LP was written by the 60-year-old SLAYER guitarist. Helming the sessions at Henson Recording Studios in Los Angeles last year was producer Josh Wilbur, who has previously worked with KORN, LAMB OF GOD, AVENGED SEVENFOLD and BAD RELIGION, among others.
Joining Kerry in his new band are Mark Osegueda (vocals; DEATH ANGEL),Phil Demmel (guitar; MACHINE HEAD, VIO-LENCE),Kyle Sanders (bass; HELLYEAH) and drummer Paul Bostaph (SLAYER, TESTAMENT, EXODUS).
Following his recent tour with LAMB OF GOD and MASTODON and his first European headline tour earlier this year, King and his new band will hit the road for the 28-date North American headline tour in early 2025. With MUNICIPAL WASTE as special guest and ALIEN WEAPONRY supporting, the tour is set to launch in San Francisco on January 15, 2025, and wrap at House of Blues in Las Vegas on February 22.
In early May, the KERRY KING band performed its first live show at Reggies in Chicago. In the days following, the band went from playing an intimate venue to performing at the huge U.S. festivals Welcome To Rockville (Florida) and Sonic Temple (Ohio).
KERRY KING launched a European tour on June 3 — King's 60th birthday – in Tilburg, The Netherlands. The trek combined headline shows in the U.K., The Netherlands, Germany, Italy and Spain but also festival appearances such as Rock Am Ring, Hellfest, Tuska, Download, Sweden Rock Festival and many more.
The SLAYER guitarist's solo band played its first concert as the support act for LAMB OF GOD and MASTODON on July 19 at the Texas Trust CU Theatre in Grand Prairie, Texas. The six-week "Ashes Of Leviathan" tour wrapped on August 31 in Omaha, Nebraska.

Watch: SHADOWS FALL Performs New Single 'In The Grey' Live For The First Time
Massachusetts metallers SHADOWS FALL performed their new single "In The Grey" live for the first time during their headlining concert Saturday night (December 21) at the Palladium in Worcester, Massachusetts. Fan-filmed video of the performance can be seen below.
Released on December 6, "In The Grey" marked SHADOWS FALL's first new piece of music in more than 12 years.
"In The Grey" was made available via SHADOWS FALL's new record label home, MNRK Heavy.
The song is classic SHADOWS FALL — galloping solos, riffs on top of riffs, three-tiered vocals, memorable, stadium-sized melodics, and introspective lyrics.
Last night's concert celebrated the 20th anniversary of SHADOWS FALL's "The War Within" album, which is the band's best-selling effort, having reportedly moved over 300,000 copies worldwide.
When "In The Grey" was first released, SHADOWS FALL singer Brian Fair said in a statement: "We are incredibly excited to share our first new music in over a decade with our single 'In The Grey' and are proud to announce our partnership with MNRK Music Group.
"When SHADOWS FALL first got back in the practice space to prepare for our reunion shows, we did not know if it would lead to new music, but the excitement of jamming together and all of the riffs that Jon [Donais, SHADOWS FALL guitarist] had floating around in his head led us in the direction almost immediately. The idea began flowing, the energy started building and new songs began taking form out of the chaos."
He continued: "'In The Grey' is a full-throttle thrasher that contains all of the elements that are the bedrock of the SHADOWS FALL sound, but also adds new elements and approaches that developed in the recent past while we all explorer other musical avenues. Lyrically, I was trying to put into words and describe the physical manifestation of the weight and crushing power that can come with depression, that feeling that the weight of gravity is crashing down on you or being trapped in the dark waters of our own mind, trying to rise to the surface and take a breath. It can be an overwhelming and lonely place but there is always a light at the end of that tunnel and we always need to keep striving for a brighter day and escaping the grey."
Fair finished: "We want to sincerely thank everyone for the decades of support that you have given SHADOWS FALL and we cannot be happier to be back and rocking once again. Crank up 'In The Grey', raise those horns to the sky, and bang your head as hard as you can. Stay tuned for more music and news soon..."
Scott Givens, MNRK's SVP of rock and metal, stated: "When you get the chance to sign a genre-defining band like SHADOWS FALL, you do it. We at MNRK are proud they have chosen to work with us as they enter the next phase of their career."
This past August, Fair told Sh!t Talk Reviews about SHADOWS FALL's new deal with MNRK: "We definitely have a great partner for the music. We have a very progressive kind of view. They're gonna let us kind of release it in a way that makes sense. So, yeah, we're very excited that we got kind of the infrastructure."
He continued: "It's very different now. The traditional sort of record deal, it doesn't have to be the way it used to be. There was such an industry standard of, like, record a full-length, tour for a year and a half, record a full-length, tour for a year and a half, that kind of cycle. And it's been totally decimated now, 'cause you don't need to do the… The first-week [sales] numbers don't mean what they used to, all that type of shit. So it's cool. But, yeah, we've got a good partnership."
Regarding the progress of the songwriting sessions for the fresh SHADOWS FALL material, Brian said: "I'm very excited to be making new SHADOWS FALL music, which we'd always thought would happen, but didn't know for sure. When we kind of stopped touring, it wasn't 'cause we didn't wanna make music together or didn't want to play. We were so burnt out. Life was taking different turns. People were having kids. Jon ended up in ANTHRAX, so he was in the 'Big Four' [of 1980s thrash metal] all of a sudden. So once we finally got together to start playing shows again a few years ago, the idea of new music came up almost right away. And Jon just had a stockpile of riffs. And so far we've probably, instrumentally, got, say, seven-ish songs recorded that are pretty done. I know there's gonna be some overdubs and some candy tracks. Vocally, I've recorded two all the way through that are done and then have probably four more that are written that are, I'd say, 90 percent there. There's always changes while we track, like little new ideas that pop up, but it's going along super well.
"We're gonna take our time, 'cause there's really no deadline involved," he explained. "Also, I don't think we're gonna release it all at once. I think now, thankfully, modern ways of doing things, you don't have to just drop a 10-song album. You can do a few just like little chunks here and there. So we're hoping to probably get some music out late fall, I'm hoping, at least a couple songs. And my plan, if it all goes according to me, would be to do that, drop two or three songs every chunk and then put 'em all out on vinyl at the end like as one. So in my world, that's what we're doing. We'll see if it actually happens. But, yeah, getting back with [producer] Zeuss [Chris Harris] is just awesome. We've been working with him, really, since the demos before [2000's] 'Of One Blood' [album]. And we're recording most of it at Matt's [Bachand, SHADOWS FALL guitarist] house as well. So when I get back to Massachusetts, it's super comfortable, just get in his basement and just work on tunes. And it's been a blast… So hopefully things keep moving the way they are."
Noting that SHADOWS FALL drummer Jason Bittner recently announced his departure from OVERKILL, one of the Sh!t Talk Reviews interviewers then asked if it is "safe to say" that SHADOWS FALL "is back" and is "not going to go anywhere anytime soon." Brian responded: "It's not going anywhere, but I don't think we'll ever be the full-time touring band we were. It's a lot of family stuff and people have just got different things going on. Jon, being in ANTHRAX, that's gonna be kind of his main gig most of the time. Jason, yeah, he left OVERKILL, but he's also got CATEGORY 7 with John Bush and Phil Demmel and all those guys, and that new record's killer. So they'll be busy with that. But we're definitely gonna keep playing shows. We're gonna keep doing festivals. We probably will hopefully do some short tours here and there, especially when new music comes out, but we're gonna kind of pick and choose our battles, which is, again, also a nice place to be in.
"When the band was our full-time job, you couldn't stay at home for too long or there wasn't gonna be a home to come home to," Fair explained. "You've gotta go out and grind. So it's nice to not have that pressure, but also to do it because it's fun again. Each show that we've done have all been blockbusters in our minds because there's just enough time between each one that you get that excited again. It ramps up and then it's just like an explosion.
"Me personally, I was so burnt out by the time we stopped touring in 2015. We'd been on a 15-year run where I hadn't been home for more than a few weeks through that whole thing. And physically, my neck was shot, my back was shot. I was burnt mentally as well, so it was time to come home for a while. But then, now I'm, like, 'Okay, cool. Let's go have some fun.'"
"The only way to survive in a band like us… We're not gonna sell 10 million records and have all that stuff," Brian added. "So you've gotta go out there and stay on the road to keep your name in front of people, keep everything exciting. You've gotta sell t-shirts — that's how you make your money, [by staying] out there on the road. And, yeah, if a label is gonna spend a bunch of money to drop a record and do videos, they're, like, 'You've gotta go promote it now. You've gotta get out there and hit it.'
"What's driving us to record now is that we love the songs we're writing. It's not 'cause there's a deadline. And the shows we're playing is because we're just, like, 'That sounds like a party, man. Let's do it.'"
Elaborating on how he and his SHADOWS FALL bandmates chose their new record-label partner, Brian said: "It's totally changed things where they've kind of realized their best role is as a promotional partner and a manufacturer, if you're doing vinyl or whatever. CDs, they still make 'em, I guess, but not in the numbers they used to. And a lot of them downsized, because they had to. So it's more about partnering with the band and label relationship and finding a way to make it make sense for everyone.
"The old model doesn't work," the 49-year-old singer, who now lives in St. Louis, Missouri with his wife and their two kids, added. "It's broken. You can't just throw money at things and think it's gonna hit. People have too many choices. You can put out music yourself, so there's definitely an oversaturation, unfortunately, as well because of that. So there's just so much content, you've gotta find new and innovative ways to share it and keep it special. And I think the labels that are surviving and thriving are the ones who are flexible, willing to evolve, willing to work with the artists' vision as opposed to just, 'Cool, man. Let's stick to the old method.'"
Fair and his SHADOWS FALL bandmates have played a number of other reunion concerts so far, including at Blue Ridge Rock Festival in Alton, Virginia, at the Furnace Fest in Birmingham, Alabama, and at the Milwaukee Metal Fest in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
In a recent interview with the WSOU 89.5 FM radio station, Fair stated about SHADOWS FALL's new music: "You can tell it's SHADOWS FALL, but, man, it's got new vibes, it's got new influences and it's just kind of a very fresh approach.
"When we first started working on it, we were worried," Brian admitted. "We were, like, 'Is this gonna sound like us?' We hadn't written songs together in five to six years, where it's gonna be. And, man, right out of the gate, we were, like, 'This is the SHADS. We're back.'"
Elaborating on the musical direction of the new SHADOWS FALL material, Fair said: "Honestly, it's gonna be everything that we've always done, plus more. And we're probably about — I'd say we've got six or seven songs that are actually songs. They're still gonna get some some tweaks here and there, with a few other ideas still floating around that need to be worked on."
He continued: "But I'm super excited about these songs. I've also been pushing myself as a singer to really expand my range to try new ideas, and having the time to work through that has been really helpful. 'Cause even when SHADOWS FALL was doing downtime, I was doing different projects and trying to really bring some new elements to what I do, and I'm putting all that into this record. So it'll sound like SHADOWS FALL, but there'll definitely be some some new interesting ideas and approaches and stuff. So it's really exciting."
He added: "For us, it's just been great to be back in the room jamming on new material, 'cause when we got together to do these [reunion] shows, when we're rehearsing, we were, like, 'If we're putting this work in, why not see what happens with new music?' And I couldn't be happier with how it's coming out. So, really exciting."
In December 2023, Fair told RichardMetalFan about SHADOWS FALL's decision to reunite: "We'd wanted to play shows again for a while and we just wanted the time to be right. And once the pandemic kind of hit, we sort of realized, like, 'Why are we waiting around? It's the time.' So we were lucky that we were able to kind of get everyone's schedules together. And it was incredible. As soon as we started jamming together again, it just felt fun, it felt right. So the shows were a blast. We really rehearsed like crazy for it. And we're probably better prepared for that than anything we'd ever been for before that. And we also realized, like, man, we should have been practicing more when we were together. We used to hate practicing. We always were, like, 'Ah, we tour enough. We don't need to.' And then after we practiced a bunch, we were, like, 'All right. Maybe we really should have.' [Laughs] But then also when we started practicing, we figured if we have ideas, why not write new music as well? If we're gonna get together, let's see what we've got. So that started leading to some new stuff. So [I'm] looking forward to seeing where it heads."
Asked if the next SHADOWS FALL release will be stylistically similar to the band's last album, 2012's "Fire From The Sky", or if it will be "a new beginning" for the band, Brian said: "If you heard these songs, you'd be, like, 'Oh, that's SHADOWS FALL.' But no, it doesn't sound like… It's different. It definitely sounds different."
Fair previously discussed SHADOWS FALL's plans for new music during an episode of "Drinks With Johnny", the Internet TV show hosted by AVENGED SEVENFOLD bassist Johnny Christ. At the time, he said: "We're pretty deep into the process. I'd say I'm kind of a slacker, but I'm really focusing on getting things as good as I can vocally because we have no agenda. We have no time frame. We have no record label pressure. We're just trying to write the best music we can. And it all kind of came about as we started jamming to do the reunion shows. And these guys have — Jon's been playing in ANTHRAX and Jason's been playing in OVERKILL, so their chops are still at top-notch level. But they had riffs, man. And I was, like, 'If we've got riffs and they sound like SHADOWS FALL, if we're gonna get together and jam, let's make some new music.'"
He continued: "It's been a blast, man. It's funny, 'cause the older we've gotten, it's gotten a little more brutal, which was not a surprise, 'cause I just figured that would happen. We're, like, 'If we're gonna do it, we're gonna drop the hammer.' So it's been fun, man. I forgot how much of a riff machine Jon was. And he's just like — ideas are just flying out of him. And also in ANTHRAX, he just gets to solo in the studio. So he's just, like, 'Finally I get to write some riffs.' [Laughs]"
In July 2023, Bittner told the "Nothing Shocking Podcast" about SHADOWS FALL's decision to work with Zeuss again: "[Zeuss] did all of our records except for… Well, he had a hand in all of them except for 'Fire From The Sky'… So he's always been involved with SHADOWS FALL in some way, shape or form. Once this whole reunion thing kind of morphed from being just a one-show thing, we started talking with him, 'cause he still lives two minutes away from Paul [Romanko, bass]. So, it's, like, 'All right. Well, if you guys are getting back together, what's the next step? Are we making another record?' We're, like, 'Well, we don't know.' And he was, like, 'Whatever we're doing, let's get on it.' So kind of, like, we just sort of figured, 'We don't have any money to pay you, because we don't have any money because we don't have a record label or anything.' But he was just, like, 'Well, let's just start doing this and let's do it together.'"
SHADOWS FALL released a statement in August 2014 in which the bandmembers explained that financial difficulties made it virtually impossible for the group to continue as a full-time concern.
In August 2015, SHADOWS FALL played a few reunion shows on the U.S. East Coast, one year after completing what was being billed at the time as the band's "final" European tour.
"Fire From The Sky" was released in May 2012 via Razor & Tie. The CD sold around 10,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 38 on The Billboard 200 chart. | +1

Watch: VINNY APPICE Performs BLACK SABBATH And DIO Classics With SABBATH KNIGHTS In San Diego
BLACK SABBATH/DIO drummer Vinny Appice performed with his ultimate BLACK SABBATH/DIO show, called SABBATH KNIGHTS, Friday night (December 20) at Brick By Brick in San Diego, California. Fan-filmed video of the concert can be seen below (courtesy of Eclipse).
Joining Appice in SABBATH KNIGHTS are Jim Crean on vocals, Jimmy Caputo (CACTUS) on bass, and Artie Dillon (SLAMM) on guitar.
Last year, Vinny told Rock Show Critique about how SABBATH KNIGHTS came together: "Well, see, I started doing this by fluke, actually. Five years ago, six years ago, I went to Europe and they wanted me to come to Europe. So they put together a band there, and we did all BLACK SABBATH 'Mob Rules' album songs, a couple of old SABBATH [tracks], a couple old DIO [cuts]. And I wound up doing three tours over there. So I thought, 'This is pretty cool.'"
The legendary 67-year-old drummer, who has played with BLACK SABBATH, DIO and HEAVEN & HELL, continued: "I had a lot of fun playing this music because it's fun to play, first of all. And it's just a fun time. It's not a new band trying to break and sell records and become big. This is a great evening of music. So I wanted to do it here in the U.S. I did do a couple of dates down in South America and everything went well. So talking to Jim, I said, 'Why don't we put this together?' 'Cause Jim is one of the few singers that could sing [songs originally recorded by] Ozzy [Osbourne] and [Ronnie James] Dio. I've done a couple of shows in Ohio, I've done this, and we actually had two singers — the Dio singer and the Ozzy singer. So not many singers could sing Dio very well, and Jim could blow it out, man. He's great. We played together in a show called 'Drum Wars' with my brother Carmine. That's how we met Jim, and we've done a lot of stuff together. So we decided to put our heads together, and let's get some gigs and put a setlist together."
Regarding his SABBATH KNIGHTS bandmates and the group's setlist, Vinny said: "We've got a great band. We've got Artie Dillon on guitar, who's from the East Coast, Jim Caputo on bass. And we've all played together before, so this is a really, really tight band. It's music from SABBATH — mainly Ronnie and I's era — and then some old stuff and some DIO."
Added Jim: "Like Vin said, we've got a great band. Jimmy and Artie are amazing, professional musicians. And, of course, we've got the best drummer in the world, Vinny Appice."
On the topic of being billed as a "tribute" band, Vinny said: "There's all these tribute bands, and some of these bands do really good. And I'm, like, 'Wow,' all these SABBATH bands and stuff. So if you call it a tribute, I call it a 'tribute plus one'. And I'm the plus one, because I played in the band. So I just thought, that could that could work too. But it's not really tribute. I mean, I was in the bands and played all this music, so it's going to be just a great night of music, and I think people will enjoy it and we're gonna kick ass."
Last year, Vinny spoke to Backstage Pass about why he thinks there is a renewed interest in seeing him perform classic songs from SABBATH and DIO. He said: "When I played here [in the U.S.], places were packed and people loved it as well. Because I'm the only guy now from the original [BLACK SABBATH] band that's out there. Tony [Iommi] and Geezer [Butler], no more. Ozzy [Osbourne], it seems like no more. And I was the only other drummer in the beginning; I made some of the albums with them. So I think that the time is perfect now for me that I still wanna do this, go out and play — play this stuff. People wanna hear it."
Back in December 2021, Vinny spoke to the "All Access Live! With Kevin Rankin" podcast about his unique and powerful drumming style which has anchored the rhythm and power live and in the studio for the music of DIO, BLACK SABBATH, HEAVEN & HELL, LAST IN LINE, AXIS, Rick Derringer, John Lennon and more. He said: "I always say 'I go where no man has gone before' where some of these fills start. See, I play in the song. Whatever I do, I get into the song. I don't play on top of the song. I hear a lot of drummers can play on top of the song and they're just playing the song. I'm inside of that song, and that's the way I hear the stuff. It's kind of like an artist painting pictures, and I'm in there putting the colors in it. And I just hear it like that — fills that could go over the bar, maybe a bar and a half. And they start in an odd place. And luckily, that worked for me with SABBATH. SABBATH, I didn't do quite as much because SABBATH was so legendary, you had to keep that in your mind that this is BLACK SABBATH and there's a certain way to play fills that are a little darker maybe — not so much snare drum; more dark stuff. And then with DIO, anything went. And Ronnie [James Dio] never had a problem with me playing… nor did SABBATH; they never said 'don't play a fill there' or anything like that. And Ronnie, I'd play over his vocal line. We kicked each other in the ass. When I hear him starting to go, I go, 'Woah, dude.' Now something comes out of me that got inspired; he inspired me. We fed off each other, absolutely."
Appice went on to say that his recorded parts change and evolve when he is performing the songs live. "Like one night, [DIO] played 'The Last In Line', and at the third verse, [Ronnie] goes, 'And you never, never, never come home.' And then one night, he kept it going. He went, 'Never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never…' He kept it going. And I just heard that and I followed him," Vinny said. "And we went, 'That was cool, dude.' And we still do that. I'm playing with LAST IN LINE now with Vivian [Campbell, former DIO guitarist]. And we do that. Andy Freeman [LAST IN LINE singer] and I, we worked it out so that part's in there.
"See, I'm always listening," Appice continued. "Drummers, you've gotta listen to what's going on on stage. I don't close my eyes and space out. I look around. I'm scanning the stage. If I'm hearing somebody playing something, maybe I'll jump on it. And that keeps it really exciting. That's why I don't play the same stuff every night. Certain fills are the same. But then I go kick in the ass as much as I could."
Vinny has recorded and co-written songs on several dozen albums and CDs, including many multi-platinum records. Vinny's drumming can also be heard on numerous movie soundtracks, including "Wayne's World 2", "Heavy Metal", "Iron Eagle" and "Bedazzled". Vinny, the author of drum instruction book "Rock Steady" and DVD "Hard Rock Drumming Techniques", has performed incredible powerhouse drum clinics around the globe. Numerous books have been written about BLACK SABBATH and DIO with the authors always mentioned Vinny's drumming style.

ORPHANED LAND's KOBI FARHI: 'Living In Israel, I Had Always Dreamt That One Day We Might Be Able To Live In Peace'
In a new interview with Oxygène Radio's "Metal Zone", vocalist Kobi Farhi of Israeli metallers ORPHANED LAND was asked if there are any plans for him and his bandmates to work on a new studio album. He responded (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "It takes us always a lot of time. We have to consider COVID, and we have to consider the war. We barely have a moment to sit with ourselves on some peace of mind and to understand. But definitely the plan on 2025 is to sit down and concentrate only on the new album. And I believe that we will have something for 2026, but, of course, we need to see. But the plan is after this [fall 2024 European] tour to focus only on the album."
Asked about ORPHANED LAND's influences when it comes to making new music, guitarist Chen Balbus said: "We all take our influences from something different, but I'd say the main idea is the fact that we are from where we are. And it never gets dull in Israel. There's always action. So that kind of thing, besides what we listen to at home, it all intertwines and we just always combine our influences from where it comes from. It could be from something totally Middle Eastern, from something Greek, American, we take all of that into consideration, and once pretty much everything is done in that manner, we can lay it down.I personally can hear every kind of tune and turn it into metal in my head. And I would say that mostly I draw my influences not from metal."
Added Kobi: "To add to what Chen had said, as the one who is responsible for, let's say, the band's message and concepts and lyrics and stuff like that. I am always observing the situation in Israel and the Middle East. That had been always my, let's say glasses, to the creation, to the page.
"It was mainly my dream to succeed and create peace with our music because living in Israel, I had always dreamt that one day we might be able to find a way to live together and to live in peace," he explained. "That was always the thing that moved me to do and write. You can go to many things that we did with the band, not even related to music and lyrics. For example, you can take the fact that I was, I think, probably one of the first musicians, definitely in Israel and maybe in the world, that I put on myself the Arabian Palestinian keffiyeh on 1996 in the photos of our album 'El Norra Alila'. I didn't do it as a pro-Palestinian act or a pro-Israeli act; I did it as an act of wanting to become closer. 'I appreciate you and your culture. I want to be your friend.' Because I believe that the only way for peace is to become friends. I don't think that peace is an agreement, money. Of course you can make peace like that. But I think that in order to live together, we have to learn to be friends. And that's what I was trying to do all my life. Wearing a keffiyeh, writing the lyrics, speaking in Arabic, all those things that I did with ORPHANED LAND was always from that perspective. And it comes to the albums, to the covers, to the photos, to the music, of course, and everything."
ORPHANED LAND released its most recent studio album, "Unsung Prophets & Dead Messiahs", in 2018.
The band's latest release, "A Heaven You May Create", arrived in December 2023. Celebrating ORPHANED LAND's 30th anniversary, the LP contains the recordings of a very special show that the band played in June 2021 with a symphony of 60 players. The concert took place during the COVID-19 pandemic, which brought the entire world economy to a standstill. A special gap between lockdowns, were the world seemed normal again for a short period of time, allowing ORPHANED LAND to play a special show in "the hall of fame" of Israel, the Heichal HaTarbut in Tel Aviv, with 2,500 people in attendance. The setlist spanned ORPHANED LAND's discography, featuring their most beloved songs.
ORPHANED LAND's music draws from Eastern, Western and Asian influences, and the band is known for its message of peace and unity among Jews, Arabs and Christians. The group's songs are written in Hebrew and English.
ORPHANED LAND opened for METALLICA in 2010 in Israel and toured Europe with Palestinian rock group KHALAS in 2013.
ORPHANED LAND is Farhi, Balbus, Idan Amsalem (guitars),Uri Zelcha (bass),and Matan Shmuely (drums). | +2

TONY DOLAN Praises New VENOM INC. Guitarist CURRAN MURPHY: He's 'A Really Nice Guy' With 'Very Positive Energy'
In a new interview with the Iblis Manifestations podcast, VENOM INC. bassist/vocalist Tony "Demolition Man" Dolan once again weighed in on guitarist Jeff "Mantas" Dunn's recent announcement that he was not planning to return to the band. Tony said in part (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "[Jeff] had a heart attack a few years ago and then last year he suffered a second one. And it's impacted his mental self, of course, but he's a fighter. So he struggled with that and tried to get himself into some kind of shape, like he did after the first one. But I think mentally it's taken a massive toll. And, yeah, [it's] just one of those scary moments in our lives."
Dolan continued: "We don't last forever. We wanna stay 20, but my training changes, my diet's changed because I'm not 20 anymore. So, I have to be aware of that. So you have to be smart a bit, and life will beat you in the end because we're all headed for the ground. And I just think it's a moment for him where he doesn't feel he should travel so much and he doesn't want anything to happen if he's on an airplane or running through an airport or in a foreign country away from his loved one, his partner, who has also been sick. So it's very difficult. So he's bowed out. He made a statement that he just can't do VENOM INC. anymore. And he will record music, because he lives in Portugal. He has a studio, so he will keep doing his music, which is his therapy. But live performances, with us in particular, is just not on."
Regarding his decision to carry on with VENOM INC. without Dunn, Dolan said: "At the end of the day, people will throw bricks and stuff at me, but they've been doing that for 40 years. I don't really give a fuck anymore; everything bounces off.
"I'm a workaholic, and I would tour 24 hours a day, 365 days, if I could, everywhere on the planet — every shithole, every great arena, just as long as I was playing music, as long as I was connecting with people," he explained. "And not everybody's the same. Not everybody wants to do that. And it's difficult, particularly if you get [to a certain] age — you don't bounce back the same way you did when you were younger. But that's why I train. That's why I keep my mind as strong and fit as I can.
"So it's unfortunate [that Dunn can't continue with VENOM INC.]. It's unfortunate, but the door is always open," Dolan added. "I left the door open. And, in a year's time or whatever it is, if he just turns up and goes, 'I'd love to [play again],' then just come, just come and play. And I'll get you in, I'll get you out as easy as I can. So that's why I say 'never say never.' I'm sure people will say, from his point of view the door's closed, but it's not closed for me. He's my brother. I love him to death. We've been together for a long time and we've been friends from way back —36 years running VENOM stuff in one way or another. And beyond that, with my other band. And we're all from the same town and the same place and we're all friends. So, for me, it's a 'never say never' thing. But right now, he doesn't wanna do it, and I totally understand it. So it's a shame."
Dolan also talked about VENOM INC.'s plans for the coming months, saying: "We have a full season coming up. January, we hit the ground running with the U.S. tour. That runs from January through to February in the U.S. And then we go straight to Mexico and do South America. Then we come back. We've got a few festivals in Europe. And then we go back to do America again, and then, yeah, we've got Asia and Australia. And along the line, I'll be doing two live releases, uh, the 'Live Assault' series, two live releases from two particular shows, and the new album and an EP. So, yeah, it's kind of bundled up there. So, lots of good stuff is gonna happen, but lots of live shows because I just wanna get out there and play with the band."
Tony also addressed the latest additions to VENOM INC., saying: "I have [drummer] Marc Jackson, who was with ACID REIGN, CONTROL THE STORM, a few bands, and he was with us with M:PIRE OF EVIL when me and Jeff were doing M:PIRE OF EVIL. And [guitarist] Curran Murphy, who stepped in very kindly [for Mantas], because he did the second part of the U.S. tour when Mantas had to bow out because his partner got sick. Curran with his band 72 LEGIONS; they were on the tour. And I just watched him and thought, 'That guy, that guy.' I just love his performance. And if you give that guy the stage, I bet he would just be like a fucking firework. And so he'd learned a couple of songs and I said, you wanna do Indonesia with us. And he said, 'Yeah, sure.' So we went out there. That was a testing ground. It was amazing, and off we went. So we played another 10 countries or whatever — all of South America and Poland and France and Romania — and it was a very successful. A great guitarist. And he was with ANNIHILATOR and NEVERMORE, so I knew he had the chops. But, yeah, he's from Cleveland and he's just a really nice guy. He's good to be around — very positive energy; he's very positive. And you need that. It inspires you, particularly at my age, to have that positive energy from him, wanting to achieve. And, of course, Jackson, who's a consummate professional and an amazing drummer, and just is like so laid back. So it's great fun. So, yeah, we're hoping the season's gonna be amazing and looking forward to seeing everybody."
Dunn formed VENOM INC. nearly a decade ago with two other former VENOM members, Dolan and drummer Antony "Abaddon" Bray.
In his announcement that he was leaving VENOM INC., Dunn said that his "health and wellbeing are of paramount importance to myself and my family," but added that "there are also more personal issues which have influenced my decision."
This past May, Dunn revealed that he had suffered another heart attack on the morning of April 17. Despite this frightening event, the swift response from medical professionals at Abrantes UCIC and later in Lisbon ensured he received the necessary care promptly. An angiogram revealed issues with two valves, leading to the immediate placement of two stents.
The 63-year-old British-born musician, who currently resides with his wife in Portugal, previously suffered a heart attack and underwent a double bypass surgery in May 2018.
Mantas sat out VENOM INC.'s fall 2023 U.S. tour after revealing that his wife had been diagnosed with cancer. He was replaced on the trek by Hickey, known for his work with VENOM, CARCASS, CATHEDRAL and CRONOS.
VENOM INC. is not to be confused with the Conrad "Cronos" Lant-fronted version of VENOM, which is continuing to tour and make albums under the VENOM moniker. Joining Cronos in that group are Rage (a.k.a. Stuart Dixon) on guitar and Danté (a.k.a. Danny Needham) on drums.
VENOM's classic lineup trio of Dunn, Lant and drummer Anthony "Abaddon" Bray recorded four studio LPs, "Welcome To Hell" (1981),"Black Metal" (1982),"At War With Satan" (1984) and "Possessed" (1985),and live album, "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik" (1986). Often cited by bands such as METALLICA, BEHEMOTH, CELTIC FROST and MAYHEM as major influences, they are one of the most revered bands of their generation. VENOM is still fronted by Cronos and headlines festivals all over the globe and continues to release new music while Dunn and Dolan had joined forces in the similarly named VENOM INC. | +2

ATTILA Rallies The Disenfranchised With New Single 'America's Rejects'
Atlanta's party metalcore heavyweights ATTILA are back with their new anthem "America's Rejects", out now on all major platforms. The track is a bold declaration of defiance and serves as an unapologetic anthem for outcasts, misfits, and anyone daring to defy the status quo.
The new single coincides with the announcement that the band's "America's Rejects" tour just got even bigger. Joining ATTILA and previously announced special guests DEALER and Nathan James on the road will be heavy hitters BUTCHER BABIES and DED, making this tour one of the biggest and loudest parties of the year.
Speaking on their new track and the new additions to their upcoming tour, ATTILA frontman Chris "Fronz" Fronzak shares: "'America's Rejects' is an anthem for anyone who's ever felt like they didn't belong — a big middle finger to the status quo.
"Adding BUTCHER BABIES and DED to this lineup takes it to a whole new level. This tour isn't just a show; it's a movement. We're uniting the rejects, the outcasts, and anyone who's ready to throw it all in the face of the norm.
"2025 is our year, and this tour is going to be a big 'fuck you' to everything holding you back!"
The "America's Rejects" tour starts on March 4 at Club L.A. in Destin, Florida and continues through 22 cities before culminating at The Orpheum in Tampa, Florida on April 5.
ATTILA — Fronzak, Chris Linck (guitar) and Kalan Adam (bass) — has been churning out metalcore anthems for nearly two decades, shaping and defining the genre as it goes.
Formed in Atlanta, Georgia in 2005, ATTILA has released eight studio albums, including its infamous 2013 smash hit "About That Life" which debuted on the Billboard 200 at No. 22. The band is best known for its uniquely aggressive heaviness, its incendiary, high-energy live shows and its tongue-in-cheek, not-giving-a-fuck attitude. Their music has amassed over 290 million streams and they currently have 737,000 monthly listeners on Spotify alone.
ATTILA has continued to thrive and evolve over the years, cementing its status as one of the most influential bands in the modern metalcore genre.
ATTILA began a new era in April 2023 with the release of "Bite Your Tongue" which shocked fans around the world with the surprise addition of clean vocals from Fronz for the first time ever on one of the band's tracks. A string of stand-alone singles then followed — "Mia Goth", "FU4EVR", "Timebomb", "New Devil" featuring Dickie Allen, "Dog Pack" featuring Sn8ke and "Wasteland" featuring DED. Between them, the new singles have racked up 12.8 million streams on Spotify alone and 860,000 YouTube views.
These new tracks showcase a new direction for ATTILA, maintaining the band's signature blend of metalcore, nu metal and deathcore whilst also adding new layers of melodic finesse and instrumental technicality. | 0

MICHAEL SWEET On Perception That He Runs STRYPER Like A Dictatorship: 'It's Just Not True'
In a new interview with The Front Row Report With Reggie Edwards, STRYPER frontman Michael Sweet spoke about how his songwriting process has evolved over the four decades of the band's existence. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "I personally think that that's my greatest gift in terms of the abilities God's given me. I'm a guitar player, I'm a singer, but I feel like I shine more at songwriting, and I get more excited about it.
"When I sit down to write, it's always a few weeks before we start recording," he continued. "I don't have any songs, and I sit down in my studio and I write a song a day. Once I have one song finished, I go down the next day, I write another song until there's 11 songs or 12 songs. And then we go in a studio, I teach the songs to the guys and we record them. And it's been that way really from the beginning, starting with [the 1984 EP] 'The Yellow And Black Attack', but the difference between now and then is we spent more time working out songs [back then]. Now it's a lot faster process, and it's not because it's rushed [or] because we have to; it's just because that's the way it is. That's the way it works.
"But I love writing," Sweet added. "Everyone has this perception that we've always written songs as a band. That's just not true. It's never been that way. I've always been open and honest about that. And sometimes people think I'm a dictator and I hold a gun to the guys' heads and I don't let 'em write and whatnot, and it's just not true. I give music to my brother all the time and say, 'Hey, why don't you write the lyrics?' Because Robert's [Sweet, STRYPER drummer] a good lyricist. I say, 'Why don't you write the lyrics for the song?' And three months later, when it's time for me to sing the song, the lyrics aren't done. So I wind up doing it myself. And it's perceived often as I don't let the guys do anything, and it couldn't be further from the truth. And I'm letting you know that, I'm going off on that a bit of tangent, because I see this online every day. I just saw something at breakfast an hour ago, someone saying that very same thing."
Michael also addressed his reputation as one of the most outspoken musicians in metal when it comes to his beliefs and thoughts. He said: "The thing is, I'm a very open book. So when I do interviews, I speak my heart. The other guys don't. And what I mean by that is when my brother does interviews, he's much more reserved and cautious about what he says. Now, behind the scenes, he'll say what's on his heart, and I hear it all. I hear it all, 'cause I travel with him. Same with Oz [Fox, STRYPER guitarist]. Same with Perry [Richardson, STRYPER bassist]. I hear everything that you hear me saying in interviews and then some. But see, people's perception is they don't say anything bad, I say everything bad. I'm the dictator, I'm the tyrant, I'm this, I'm that. And then when I talk about it, like I'm doing now, I'm a crybaby. I'm going off and I'm getting upset about it. And I guess the point I'm trying to make — as much as I love these guys, the public perception of this band isn't at all true. It's always been that way. When I left the band, people hated me. I still have people come up to me to this day and say, 'I hated you. I was so mad at you because you left the band, you left the other three guys. You betrayed them. You abandoned them.' And I'm, like, wow. I left this band to save my marriage. I had to. I had to. And I wanted my marriage to survive. I wanted to be a father to my children. And the perception is I was an asshole."
STRYPER's latest studio album, "When We Were Kings", came out in September.
The band recently completed a 40th-anniversary tour, which was described as "a celebration of both classic hits and new-era fan favorites, including outfit changes and an exciting new show production."
In December 2023, Michael underwent partial thyroidectomy, the surgery to remove part of his thyroid gland. It is the most common surgery for thyroid cancer.
Formed 41 years ago, STRYPER's name comes from Isaiah 53:5, which states: "But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed."
STRYPER's albums include "To Hell With The Devil", "Second Coming", "No More Hell To Pay", "Fallen", "God Damn Evil", "Even The Devil Believes" and "The Final Battle".

SKY LIGHTHOUSE Illuminates The Darkness With New Single / Video "Melodic"
Orlando-based heavy metal band Sky Lighthouse has released their latest single, "Melodic", a raw and introspective exploration of the inner struggle between light and darkness. The single is accompanied by a visually stunning music video that brings the song’s themes to life, solidifying the band’s reputation for crafting music that resonates deeply with fans.
“'Melodic' dives beneath the surface to explore the realm where light and darkness collide,” shares Luis Osorio, Sky Lighthouse’s vocalist and producer. “The song was inspired by the struggles and inner demons we face every day and the strength it takes to embrace every part of ourselves. It’s about realizing that darkness isn’t just something to fear—it’s an essential part of who we are.”
What makes "Melodic" truly unique is its raw honesty, as it encourages listeners to confront their fears and embrace their true selves. The music video, directed and produced by Luis Osorio, intensifies the song’s central theme through contrasting visuals and a striking color palette of reds, blues, and blacks. Filmed across indoor and outdoor locations, the video juxtaposes confined, dimly lit spaces symbolizing the mind’s labyrinth with open, dramatically lit settings representing the collision of light and dark.
Sky Lighthouse, formed in 2019, is driven by a mission to create music with real meaning. Founded by Luis Osorio, the band combines the raw intensity of heavy metal with profound lyrical storytelling. Their sound draws inspiration from bands such as Lin | 0

FROZEN CROWN On Current Success - "We Got To This Point Despite Being Based In A Country That's Totally Conservative, And Hostile Towards Young Bands And Female Musicians"
Italian power metallers, Frozen Crown, who recently announced their first ever European headline tour, have shared the following year-end message:
"Dear friends, how many INCREDIBLE achievements we scored together! If you're reading this post, yes, a huge 'thank you' goes to you as well!
War Hearts, our fifth album (and our first one on Napalm Records) was out 2 months ago, and we already sold on our shop more copies than we used to sell in an entire year (with all limited versions being sold out, the regular one being currently out of stock because of too many unexpected orders, and a new limited coming soon).
We just came back home from an incredibly awesome tour supporting Kamelot, where we had the chance to grow even stronger together as a band and as a family. And, most importantly, we just announced our first headlining tour, together with two awesome bands as special guests (Fellowship and Lutharo), and we're so damn thrilled about this, as it's going to be the first time we have the chance to play a full Frozen Crown set, but also to test ourselves and give proof of how strong our fanbase and us are.
We got to this point despite all odds, despite the pandemic, despite being based in a country that's totally conservative and hostile towards young bands and female musicians, despite not having any funds except the ones we managed to earn through our own merch (thanks to your INCREDIBLE support). And we did all this just because of you and your love.
See you on the road very soon, and to the ones living far from where we're going to play this spring: keep letting us know where you want us to play, keep sharing your thoughts with us and your support, and keep listening to our music, as that's the only way we have to grow bigger and bigger and to be able to play everywhere.
Much love!
Jade, Federico, Niso, Sheena, Ikki & (last but not least) Alessia!"
Tickets for Frozen Crown's upcoming tour are available at frozencrown.net.
Frozen Crown recently released their guitar-driven new single, “I Am The Wind”, taken from their War Hearts, out now. Wrapping up the successful European leg of their 40th Anniversary Tour 2024 – 2025, Dream Theater released the next piece of music from their sixteenth studio album, Parasomnia.
The track, “A Broken Man”, is the latest track from the iconic reunited lineup of vocalist James LaBrie, guitarist John Petrucci, bassist John Myung, keyboardist Jordan Rudess and drummer Mike Portnoy. The song opens with a driving musical barrage that subsides as LaBrie tells the story of a war veteran who is experiencing sleep disturbances such as nightmares and insomnia, due to combat experience. The song contains audio from actual vets speaking about their personal horrors and replaying the traumatic events of wartime deployments.
A visualiser for the song - created by longtime collaborator Wayne Joyner - that captures the essence of “A Broken Man” is now available below:
An album announcement that is fifteen years in the making, Dream Theater return with their sixteenth studio album, Parasomnia, scheduled for release on February 7 via their longtime label home, Inside Out Music/Sony Music.
From the opening track “In The Arms Of Morpheus” to the closer of “The Shadow Man Incident,” Dream Theater returns with a collection of songs that showcase what has earned the band a loyal following for four decades. Clocking in at 71 minutes, Parasomnia takes the listener on a musical journey that has become synonymous with the band since the beginning of their career. Parasomnia is a term for disruptive, sleep-related disturbances including sleepwalking, sleep paralysis, and night terrors. Songs like “A Broken Man,” “Dead Asleep,” “Midnight Messiah” and “Bend The Clock” all build upon the themes brought on by the album title.
The first single, “Night Terror,” is a musical thrill ride captured in the just shy of ten minutes listening experience. A music video for the song – directed by Mike Leonard - is now available and can be seen below.
The album was produced by Petrucci, engineered by James ‘Jimmy T’ Meslin, and mixed by Andy Sneap. Hugh Syme returns once again to lend his creative vision to the cover art.

NITRATE Release New Single And Lyric Video "Live Fast Die Young"; Feel The Heat (Deluxe Edition) Out Now
British melodic rock band, Nitrate, have released the deluxe edition of their latest album, Feel The Heat, available digitally on all platforms via Frontiers Music Srl. The focus track and accompanying lyric video “Live Fast, Die Young" (Radio Edit) are also out now. Watch the clip below.
Vocalist Alexander Strandell comments on the deluxe edition release, by saying: “It feels great to give the fans something more from this amazing album. It’s an honour to be involved with the Nitrate guys.”
Nitrate’s fourth studio album, Feel The Heat, was released on October 13, 2023. Produced and mixed by Martin Bros Productions (Vega), it features a duet and backing vocals by female rock artist Issa, backing vocals by rock legend Paul Laine (Danger Danger/The Defiants), along with a song co/written by legendary song writer Bob Mitchell (co-writer of the Billboard #1 song Cheap Trick’s “The Flame”).
There are also backing vocals by Leon Robert Winteringham (LRW Project), Alan Clark (Change of Heart), and a couple of co-writes by Rob Wylde (Midnite City/Tigertailz). With Richard Jacques and Alex Cooper (Devilfire, Corvus) coming on board, Nitrate delivered a record full of anthemic hook filled tracks and a more intense AOR style.
Formed in 2015 in Nottingham, England by bass player Nick Hogg, Nitrate is a Melodic/AOR rock band heavily inspired by the late ‘80s rock scene. Influenced by the likes of Def Leppard, Europe, Journey, and Bon Jovi, they have previously released three critically acclaimed albums: Real World in 2018, Open Wide in 2019, and Renegade, in 2021.
For Real World in 2018, Nick brought in Rob Wylde (Tigertailz, Midnite City) to get the project started and help with the song writing/recording process; Joss Mennen (Zinatra, Mennen) on vocals gave an authentic 80’s sound, Pete Newdeck (Eden’s Curse, Vega, Grim Reaper) mixed the album and played drums with the whole thing being mastered by Harry Hess of Harem Scarem fame.
The second album, Open Wide, in 2019, saw a couple of changes in personnel including a new singer in Philip Lindstrand (Find Me, East Temple Avenue), and Marcus Thurston (Vega) on guitars alongside Nick and Rob with Pete and Harry Hess again Mastering. The names may have changed but the same concept of classic melodic rock still applied with the album getting rave reviews and featuring on several “Best of the Year” accolades.
This was again the case for the third album which featured a more AOR style, with more changes in personnel. The new lineup for Renegade was Nick Hogg on bass, Alexander Strandell on vocals, Tom Martin on rhythm guitars, James Martin on keyboards, Dario Nikzad on lead guitar, Mikey Wilson on drums plus Alessandro Del Vecchio (Edge of Forever, Revolution Saints, Giant) on backing vocals and mastering. The album sold out of print and again was featured in 2021’s “Best of the Year” reviews. | 0

PHIL X & THE DRILLS Release Official Lyric Video For New Single "Don’t Wake Up Dead" Feat. KORN Drummer
Legendary guitarist Phil X’s own band, Phil X & The Drills, are thrilled to unveil the official lyric video for their single, “Don’t Wake Up Dead,” featuring Korn drummer Ray Luzier, out now via Frontiers Music Srl. The video comes with a time-lapse of the production of the single’s artwork, created by Thomas Estrada.
Phil X commented on the single: “'Don’t Wake Up Dead' is a look at how people just go through the motions of life just to get to the end of their day. I know because I, myself, have been there. To put it into impactful words, if you’re not waking up ready to conquer all obstacles, you’re waking up dead. Plus… Put to music that’s like downing a triple espresso is pretty awesome."
In 2003, The Drills started to cause a stir in Hollywood, with their brand of punk mixed with classic and modern rock with guitar virtuosic undertones. Phil X was at the helm as the lead vocalist and guitar player. Daniel Spree on bass and backing vocals and Jeremy Spencer (Five Finger Death Punch) completed the power trio. They remained quite underground and released their first EP, Kick Your Ass In 17 Minutes in 2009. Jeremy had left to start FFDP by this time, so the constant rotation of drummers began.
Also, in that time period, Phil was becoming a groundbreaking YouTube sensation on a video channel called Fretted Americana, where he demoed vintage guitars. Actual 1959 Gibson Les Pauls (worth in the range of $250K),1954 Fender Stratocasters, and hundreds of other guitars were put through their paces in Phil’s hands. Before he knew it, Fretted Americana was sitting on millions of collective views and from a marketing standpoint, it made sense to take The Drills to another level as Phil X & The Drills.
We Bring The Rock’n’Roll was the follow-up to KYAI17M. With even more classic rock flavors stirred into the mix, this was the first endeavor to feature famed drummers that Phil had worked with on other artists’ records, including Chris Cornell, Daughtry, Kelly Clarkson, and Gavin DeGraw to name a few.
Drummers like Josh Freese (Sting, Foo Fighters), Abe Laboriel Jr (Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton), and fellow Canadian Randy Cooke (Smashmouth, Five for Fighting) were all featured on | 0

IRON MAIDEN’s ADRIAN SMITH Remembers Meeting DAVE MURRAY – “We Were The Only Kids In Our Neighborhood With Long Hair”
Iron Maiden guitarist was interviewed by Alexander Milas for issue #126 of the Iron Maiden Fan Club Magazine to talk about the upcoming album from Smith and guitarist Richie Kotzen with Smith/Kotzen’s Black Light/White Noise.
An excerpt of the interview:
Adrian, what a pleasure to see you again! The last time i saw you was a surprise encore at Richie's gig in London!
"Yeah, that was a very different vibe! It was a typical jam situation - we got up there and nothing worked and I was playing someone else's guitar! But it worked out! We were actually doing a photo session that afternoon, and Richie said, 'You want to jump up and play with us?'"
It does seem like you two have a very natural rapport.
"Yeah, well it was my missus, Nathalie, who put us together, who'd really encouraged us - she was a fan of Richie's music - she said we should get together. Richie's amazing - he sings, and plays, we had a jam, and things worked out because we have a lot of things in common, musically too. He's a bit younger than me but has a very good knowledge of music from the 60s and 70s, Bad Company, Free... stuff I grew up with."
Is common ground important?
"Yeah. I had Rob [Trujillo] from Metallica over to jam at my house... Taylor [Hawkins] too. We got Richie over and he was doing Bad Company and Stevie Ray Vaughn. I've always sung, always heard melodies, and had this sort of passion for singing, but I've always wanted to work with someone who was a singer. Richie is an excellent singer, and I could work around him - he's got range.
"I grew up singing until I joined Maiden, so from 17-23 I fronted a band. I've tried doing things on my own, and it's very difficult - you need feedback and someone to push against. Richie's great with lyrics, too."
Which came first: Adrian the singer or Adrian the guitarist?
"That goes back to when I was probably 15, the age when you're looking for some sort of direction. I wasn't particularly academic.
