THE ALARM's Mike Peters was joined by THE CULT's Billy Duffy on this week's installment of his streaming series "The Big Night In". Asked if he has been making any new music while in quarantine, Duffy said (see video below): "I've come up with a few riffs. THE CULT, we're in the process of making an album in our own way. We have a producer engaged, and he's in the U.K. And that's ongoing. And I came up with some stuff — probably not as much [as I could have].

"The ideas either come or they don't," he explained. "I don't sit and force myself. I know some writers or music and lyrics [have] a disciplined work schedule — hours spent in front of the typewriter equals output. To me, I just play till I feel it and if I get this energy and out comes a little riff. And it literally is as simple as that. I get the idea — it's almost like an itch that I've got to scratch, and out it pops, and I record it. And it's been like that now for nearly 40 years, so I'm probably, at this age, not gonna change [my ways]."

Billy also touched upon THE CULT's songwriting process, saying: "Mine and Ian's [Astbury, vocals] relationship as writers and what we want out of THE CULT, we're both fairly forward thinking and we don't want to try and redo an album from 1986 when we were young men. People often say that: 'Why don't you do an album like that?' It's, like, well, because it'd be a lie. As musicians, you want to evolve and just sort of tell the truth of where you are in your life… Having said that, there are many great bands — AC/DC spring to mind — who try and make the same album over and over and over, and [that worked] brilliantly for them. God bless."

Last December, Astbury told Atlantic City Weekly that THE CULT was planning to work on new music in 2020.

"We've got a few pieces lying around in various stages of completion," he said. "The intention is to get together in the New Year and take a look at what we've got and decide how we are going to go about moving forward. It's is an essential part of any creative lifeblood."

THE CULT's last collection of new material, "Hidden City", was released in February 2016 via Cooking Vinyl. The follow-up to 2012's "Choice Of Weapon" was written by Astbury and Duffy and was produced by Bob Rock, who has previously worked with METALLICA and MÖTLEY CRÜE.

In early May, it was announced that THE CULT had inked a deal with Black Hill Records.

THE CULT spent most of last year touring in celebration of the 30th anniversary of its "Sonic Temple" album. The LP catapulted THE CULT into superstar status and remains their most commercially successful release. It has sold over 1.5 million copies in the U.S. alone and was certified platinum in 1990. It made it to No. 10 on the Billboard charts, and several of the album's songs remain rock-radio staples to this day.

EXODUS bassist Jack Gibson spoke to the "Dabghanistan" podcast about the band's plans to enter the studio to record its long-awaited new album. The San Francisco Bay Area thrashers' next disc will be the follow-up to 2014's "Blood In Blood Out", which was their first release since the departure of the group's lead singer of nine years, Rob Dukes, and the return of Steve "Zetro" Souza, who previously fronted EXODUS from 1986 to 1993 and from 2002 to 2004.

Jack said (see video below): "We're just starting to talk about the pre-production for the new EXODUS stuff. It doesn't look like we're gonna be recording it until September maybe. And who the fuck knows when it's gonna come out? Everybody's records are on hold. There may be such a backlog of stuff by then. Who even knows?"

Asked if the new EXODUS songs are already written, Jack said: "Gary's [Holt, guitar] putting 'em together right now. Gary always does that — he whips it together right before it's time to do business."

Gibson also discussed EXODUS's songwriting process in more detail, explaining: "I used to wanna be there all the time, and then I kind of realized that not only was I wasting a bunch of my energy but I was wasting a bunch of Gary and Tom's [Hunting, drums] energy by stopping and trying to get the… You know what I mean? When it's just Gary and Tom, it's an efficient thing. It's, like, 'Try this.' 'Do that.' 'Oh, yeah. I've got an idea.' 'Do this.' So I kind of realized, I think, either on the last record or the record before to just leave then alone and then when it's done, then I learn it. But the last couple of albums, instead of just sitting and spending all these hours learning it, I just take one of my basses and put it in Gary's hands and go, 'Play the song for me,' and just film him, and he'll play it, and that's 90 percent how he's gonna want me to do it anyway… Now I let him kind of show me what he thinks the bassline is, and that's mostly what I do."

EXODUS's next album will be released in 2021 via Nuclear Blast.

This past April, Souza confirmed that Holt's COVID-19 diagnosis "put a damper" on EXODUS's ability to move forward with the songwriting process for its new LP. "By now, we would have been working together for probably a good month on it," Zetro explained. "Gary's got many riffs and many things that he needs to put together. It starts with him and Tom [Hunting, EXODUS drummer], basically. Everybody knows, drummer and guitar, and that's how EXODUS has always done it. But because of this distancing, that's been kind of impossible to do, so that's put a damper on it. But I can guarantee you, I did hear some of the stuff that they were playing around with in soundcheck on [the recently completed] 'The Bay Strikes Back' [European] tour, and EXODUS fans are gonna be very pleased. Again, I'm not hearing full songs — I'm just hearing riffs and pieces and stuff like that — and I'm [like], 'Wow!' I'm not saying — it's just pretty damn heavy."

Holt joined EXODUS in 1981 shortly after the band's formation, and has been its main songwriter ever since. Holt has performed on every EXODUS album, and is considered highly influential in the world of thrash metal. In 2011, he began filling in for Jeff Hanneman at SLAYER live shows, and became the band's full-time co-guitarist as of 2013, while remaining a member of EXODUS. In October 2014, EXODUS released its tenth studio album, "Blood In Blood Out", on the Nuclear Blast label.

Sebastian Bach says that "only a moron would vote for Donald Trump this November."

The former SKID ROW singer made the comment while responding to a tweet from TWISTED SISTER's Dee Snider.

After Dee wrote, "Only morons follow a single party blindly. I've looked many politicians on both sides dead in the eye...they are not in politics for the greater good. They are there for their own good", Bach chimed in, saying: "I love you more than I can put into words. But only a moron would vote for Donald Trump this November. For real man this is for our kids".

Bach frequently criticizes Trump's policies on Twitter. Last August, he lambasted America's 45th president, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Vice President Mike Pence and other Republican leaders for their inaction on gun regulation. A month earlier, Bach made headlines when he said that he "would do a better job" running the county than Trump.

In a 2018 interview with TheRecord.com, Sebastian revealed that he voted for Hilary Clinton in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

"I don't understand how anybody would accept a reality-show host as president instead of a politician," he said. "It's insanity. It's like starting a band and your first show is at Toronto SkyDome. You gotta build up to it."

Three years ago, Bach told Music Injection that things had gotten particularly bleak in the first few months after Trump took office.

"Well, since Donald Trump became president, Facebook became not fun for me," he said. "Every headline sucks, everything sucks and I get to the point where I can't take it! All of that news, constantly, day after day, week after week, it gets me down and it gets me in a bad mood.

"I don't know about everybody else, but when I read about nuclear war, I find it hard to get on with my day," he added. "I thought we got rid of that nuclear war conversation in the '70s! It gets [me] very sad and angry at the same time. Climate change makes me angry. It makes me mad that people deny that when the world is fucked. It makes me furious."

Sebastian recently confirmed that he was in the process of making the follow-up to his 2014 album "Give 'Em Hell".

Former SEPULTURA and current SOULFLY frontman Max Cavalera has launched "Max Trax", a twice-weekly Internet video series in which he discusses the inspiration for many of the songs spanning his nearly 40-year music career.

The first two "Max Trax" episodes, focusing on the classic SOULFLY track "Eye For An Eye" and the NAILBOMB tune "Wasting Away", can be seen below.

Cavalera, who is also involved with CAVALERA CONSPIRACY and KILLER BE KILLED, broke the news of his online project in a video message posted to SOULFLY social media on June 23.

He said: "I'm announcing the launch of 'Max Trax'. It's a very raw way that I'm gonna go through all the songs I recorded all my life — all the riffs; 'riff vortex.' So I'm gonna explain how the riff was created, I'm gonna explain where the idea came for the riff, I'm gonna talk about the lyrics. I'm gonna dissect in a very raw way — nothing high technology, none of that bullshit. It's gonna be all done here [at home], with my equipment that I always record with; a drum machine. I'm gonna tell you what the inspiration for the songs come from, all the way back from 'Funeral Rites', 'Morbid Visions', going through everything — 'Refuse/Resist', 'Propaganda', fucking 'Roots Bloody Roots', 'Eye For An Eye', 'Jump Da Fuck Up'. All of them have amazing, cool stories. You guys are gonna love it. I promise you it's gonna be so fucking fun and cool and exciting. And I'll play along, if you wanna learn how to play those songs too."

He continued: "So I'm gonna be doing this every Tuesday and every Saturday — it's gonna be a different song every Tuesday and every Saturday — around two o'clock, more or less, West Coast time. The first one I'm doing is 'Eye For An Eye' with the original lyrics that you guys don't know; I had different lyrics for it. It's gonna be really, really fun; it's gonna be really cool. I can't wait to share this with you. So watch out for 'Max Trax' coming at you. We're gonna enjoy. The shit's gonna be fucking awesome. Fuck shit up! Max Cavalera. Stay metal."

Last month, SOULFLY released a new digital EP, "Live Ritual NYC MMXIX". The effort was recorded at The Gramercy in New York City on February 11, 2019 while SOULFLY was on tour in support of its most recent full-length album, "Ritual". The audio for the EP was mixed and mastered by Charles Elliott (ABYSMAL DAWN) from Tastemaker Audio. Cover artwork was comprised of live photos taken by Rodrigo Fredes.

"Ritual" was released in October 2018 via Nuclear Blast. The follow-up to 2015's "Archangel" was produced, recorded and mixed by Josh Wilbur (KILLER BE KILLED, LAMB OF GOD, GOJIRA). Cover artwork was painted by artist Eliran Kantor (TESTAMENT, ICED EARTH, SODOM). Additional booklet art was handled by Marcelo Vasco (SLAYER, HATEBREED, KREATOR), who also handled the package design. The album features multiple guests, including Randy Blythe (LAMB OF GOD).

Finnish Oulu-based progressive death metal band, Denominate, is set to release their second album, Isochron, on July 24th via Inverse Records. The band have released a second single, "Abandoned", from the album. Check it out below.

The band comments: "'Abandoned' is the third song on the record and is one of the most straightforward and punishing tracks on the album. The lyrics, as the title suggests, deal with abandonment in the service of a greater cause and the feelings of bitterness and betrayal it might generate in the ones being left behind. Musically the song takes inspiration from a wide range of genres including black metal and thrash metal."

Epic French death/black/thrash band AthanaTheos has revealed full stream of the band's sophomore epos Prophetic Era (Or How Yahveh Became The One), released on June 29th via Lavadome productions. Listen via the Bandcamp player below:

Following up the 2012 debut Alpha Theistic, AthanaTheos returns with its second album Prophetic Era (Or How Yahveh Became The One) to further pursue the atheistic journey. A journey which is yet to be expanded on an upcoming AthanaTheos album.

Prophetic Era (Or How Yahveh Become The One) is comprised of seven songs clocking at around 48 mins. The music can be described as predominantly death metal but adjectives as "blackened", "doom", "epic", "atmospheric", "dissonant" and others may be added to tag the music properly. The compositions are varying in many aspects. There's even melodic Gregorian-like chanting incorporated and fully created by the band. 

Given the big concept of five or more albums, the narrative part of the lyrics cannot be omitted since lyrics create an integral part of the music. Listening to AthanaTheos without reading lyrics at least once makes for a failure. The lyrics are an integral part of the music. A lot of characters and even nations are brought to life, speaking their story through the lyrics, arguing. It will make you listen to the story, following the journey and thinking about it as if you were reading a book all perfectly conveyed through the raw art of the album.

Lyria's vocalist, Aline Happ, launched on her YouTube channel Rihanna's version of “We Found Love”. The cover replaced the dancing beat by DJ Calvin Harris with the accompaniment of the piano and violin, highlighting the timbre of Aline. The song is the third to feature on the channel, which already has a cover by Disturbed (“Stricken”) and David Guetta (“Titanium”).

“My idea is to bring very different songs to my channel and to be able to transform them into an Aline version. I really like that letter and relate it to my personal life. My idea is not to do a cover, but a version. Leaving music to my personality, so I chose different elements, like violins,” says Aline Happ.

The song was originally released in 2011 by Rihanna with the participation of DJ Calvin Harris in the production and composition. The song that mixes electro house with dance pop caused mixed reactions among critics from different countries, although it pleased fans reaching the 16th position of the American Billboard Hot 100.

This is not the first time that Aline Happ has crossed the metal line and met other musical styles. Previously, on Lyria's channel, the singer has performed songs like “Let it Go” (Frozen); "Only Hope" (Switchfoot, popular in the voice of Mandy Moore); and “Red is the Rose” (Irish folk song).

“My idea is to post videos every week. You can expect not only videos of versions, but also make-up, recipes, exercises and whatever else makes me tick (laughs)”, warns Aline.

Known worldwide, Lyria is a Brazilian band founded in 2012 by Aline Happ. Since then, the group has released two albums with crowdfunding support, Catharsis (2014) and Immersion (2018) and played in several Brazilian cities.

Made with footage filmed during their Canadian Invasion Tour across Mexico in November 2018, Vancouver's Saints of Death are sharing their new music video “You Can't Run” in support of their upcoming album Ascend To The Throne due out July 10, 2020 via Head Rattle Productions INC.

“Ascend To The Throne”, to be released on HeadRattle Productions, is a seven track ripping and cohesive album and the second in the Saints of Death repertoire following the 2015 self-titled EP. With a different lineup than the debut effort, Saints Of Death now boasts a more robust group that is tighter, more aggressive, and more melodic than ever before along with still featuring their signature sound of having two bassists. They quote about the new lineup:

“This album has been a long time coming, and we cannot wait to get it into the ears of our fans. Our current lineup has been together since 2018 and we have really gelled as friends and as band members. Naturally with this kind of chemistry going on, it was finally time to record a new album.”

TRIVIUM frontman/guitarist Matt Heafy has released a solo cover version of "Toss A Coin To Your Witcher", the breakout musical hit from Netflix's popular "The Witcher" series. Joining Heafy on the recording is his TRIVIUM bandmate Alex Bent (drums).

Heafy is very active on his Twitch channel, Kiichichaos, where he takes part in album playthroughs and acoustic song covers while he is off the road and awaiting the next TRIVIUM album-tour cycle. According to Forbes, Kiichichaos boasts a total viewership of 3.5 million views and a subscriber count of over five thousand.

In the past, Heafy has released covers that delve into a number of different genres and include tracks as varied as those from Justin Bieber, EARTH, WIND & FIRE and SLIPKNOT.

On Friday, July 10 at 4:00 p.m. ET, TRIVIUM will play its first live show since the April 2020 release of its new album "What The Dead Men Say".

Californian dark groove metallers DEVILDRIVER recently announced their upcoming double album, "Dealing With Demons". The first volume — titled "Dealing With Demons I" — drops on October 9 via Napalm Records and marks the band's first release of new, original material since 2016’s acclaimed "Trust No One". Representing the onset of a final purging of the themes that have long possessed frontman Dez Fafara and DEVILDRIVER's music, each track on "Dealing With Demons I" illustrates a different demon to be dealt with or released.

Today, the band is following up on the release of its first single "Keep Away From Me" and its thought-provoking video with yet another anthem — the menacing, mosh-ready second single "Iona". From the ominous siren at its start to its grooving verses, the track pulls no punches. The hair-raising, anthemic chorus line "She carries a black rose…" beckons the listener again and again into a chilling ghost story! Travel the dark road into "Iona"'s clutches via the heart-gripping music video, directed by Vicente Cordero, below.

Fafara states: "'Iona' is unlike any other DEVILDRIVER song we've put out. From the frantic verses to the haunting chorus, this song is another move forward to push our sound and the listener's ears into the fray! The chorus, 'She carries a black rose, effigy from a story closed,' tells the story of the long dead ghost of Iona and her obsession with death represented by the black roses in her hands — each one the soul of someone she’s taken from this life on a lonely dark road, assimilating their souls into black roses, which she carries for eternity. This theme relates to myself and 'Dealing With Demons' in that oftentimes we as people have a hard time 'letting go' of things. This can be applied to relationships, death, and so on. Iona carrying the black roses symbolizes her inability to move on — always seeking revenge. The past is exactly that — the past. It's important to let go and not be stuck in a perpetual loop of living in it."

"Dealing With Demons I" showcases the supreme form of the band — Dez, guitarists Mike Spreitzer and Neal Tiemann, drummer Austin D'Amond and bassist Diego Ibarra. This isn't just some of the most vicious DEVILDRIVER material to date, but some of their most lethally memorable too. Co-produced by Steve Evetts and Spreitzer, it's a triumph for teamwork and tenacity.

Fafara says about the band's writing and recording process: "I said to the guys, 'If we just met today, what kind of music would we make? How would we stand the test of time, stand apart from others and stand above the competition? Let's not focus on the past sound. Instead let's kick into the future together.'"

With new milestones like Fafara's eerie verses on "Wishing" and the frontman's first co-authored lyric ("Nest Of Vipers" was written by Dez and Neal Tiemann), "Dealing With Demons I" ferociously delivers the goods while kicking open several new doors for DEVILDRIVER to power through in the future. It's a vital and violent clearing of the emotional decks, but it's also powerful evidence that Dez and his band mates have given DEVILDRIVER a volatile, visceral kick in the ass. Demons are getting dealt with in the harshest of manners.

Fafara adds: "It's time to lay it all out, on two records. I'm never gonna revisit these subjects again. I've been writing about this sort of human nature, disloyalty and dishonesty, love and loss, since the beginning of my career. I am going in a more lyrically woke direction in the future. A lot of people say my music gives them strength. But what they don't realize is that these topics haunt me. Over the course of these last few years we fled from wildfires, my wife battled cancer and now we are going through a pandemic… so it is what it is… let's dump it all on the table and purge. I want to go through different topics in the future, so here we are now. I've laid it all out on a double record for all of you to hear."

This is just the beginning – fans should be prepared for the onslaught of what is to come with the impending second volume of the double album, which promises to go even harder. This is a two-part acceleration into the future — after witnessing "Dealing With Demons I", listeners will be clamoring for the second half!

Dez adds about the upcoming remainder of the "Dealing With Demons" saga: "Volume two will get into some very heavy topics as well. You'll see the band progress even further musically as we finish this ode to the purge of all things demonic."

Details have been released by Lionsgate about the Rob Zombie Firefly family trilogy steelbook Blu-ray which the rocker-turned-filmmaker teased a few days ago.

This exclusive box-set (Blu-ray/digital combo) will be available at Target and is available for purchase from September 8 for $29.99.

The terrifying trilogy follows the blood-soaked saga of the depraved Firefly family, including "House Of 1000 Corpses", "The Devils Rejects" (unrated version) and "3 From Hell" (unrated version).

The artwork for this exquisite steelbook has been created by Vance Kelly. Kelly is an award-winning illustrator, fine artist, printmaker and graphic designer.

"House Of 1,000 Corpses" was originally released in 2003, followed by "The Devil's Rejects" in 2005, and "3 From Hell" in 2019.

"The Devil's Rejects" starred Sid Haig, Bill Moseley and Sheri Moon Zombie as Captain Spaulding, Otis Driftwood and Baby, a trio of unrepentant killers originally introduced in "House Of 1,000 Corpses". In "3 From Hell", however, the trio in the title does not refer to the original lineup of psychopaths. While Haig's Captain Spaulding does appear in the film, he is effectively replaced in the gang by a new character called Foxy, played by "Mandy" actor Richard Brake.

"The movie that I prepped to make, and was getting ready to start shooting, it was Captain Spaulding, Otis and Baby, the three originals," Zombie told Entertainment Weekly. "But three weeks out from shooting, I got a call from Sid Haig. He had been in the hospital, and he had just had surgery, and he was now recovering in a rehabilitation facility. I'm like, holy shit, this is a serious business. So, I went to see him, and he had changed drastically from the last time I saw him. Because Sid, he's big and burly, and now he's tiny as a skeleton. So, I was like, oh man. I kind of realized, yeah, he's in rough shape. So, at that point I was kind of fucked. I created this charter Foxy for Richard Brake. I had just worked with Richard on a movie called '31' and I knew he would fit the vibe. He was on another movie in Spain shooting. He flew right from that movie to L.A. and started working instantly. A lot of the scenes with Foxy were supposed to be Spaulding and I twisted things around so I didn't have to rewrite every single thing. It was the funniest situation and the shittiest situation. Because, I went from one moment thinking, 'This is the most prepared I have ever fucking been to start a movie — everything is locked down tight' — and within one phone call, the entire production went into complete chaos for three weeks. But at the end of the day, it all worked out great."

Today, Australia's premiere extreme metal export Thy Art Is Murder release a drum playthrough from Jesse Beahler for "Eye For An Eye" off their latest release, Human Target. Watch the playthrough below.

Jesse comments: "'Eye for an Eye' was the first song I heard from Human Target, as it was the first one to be drafted in the writing process. I really liked the vibe of the track, it’s pretty moody with a good Thy Art kind of feel and was the most challenging song for me to record. Overall, it’s a good example of how we’re trying to push ourselves instrumentally, while keeping the song writing at the forefront. 

The hardest part to track was definitely the buildup to the last breakdown, as the pattern is tricky to get the feel right. You can actually hear the floor tom distort because I was so pissed off during the tracking of that part. It’s also got the fastest double bass on the record, with 4-bar segments of 270bpm 16th notes in the verses.”

Thy Art Is Murder recently unveiled their "Reign Of Darkness" for an obedient audience inside the Bullhead City Circus at the 2019 edition of Germany's Wacken Open Air festival. Check out footage of the performance below:

MEGADETH's previously announced North American tour with LAMB OF GOD, TRIVIUM and IN FLAMES has officially been rescheduled for 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic which is sweeping the globe.

The 55-date trek was slated to be split into two legs. The first leg of the tour was supposed to kick off June 12 at Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow, Virginia, and wrap August 1 at the Concord Pavilion in Concord, California. The second run was due to launch October 2 at iTHINK Financial Amphitheater in West Palm Beach, Florida, and conclude on November 13 at the Reno Events Center in Reno, Nevada.

In the face of the coronavirus pandemic, thousands of concerts and festivals have either been postponed or canceled, as social distancing and self-quarantining make performing live music and attending live shows all but impossible.

MEGADETH bassist David Ellefson recently traveled to Nashville, Tennessee to begin recording the band's 16th studio album.

The early sessions for MEGADETH's new LP took place last year with co-producer Chris Rakestraw, who previously worked on 2016's "Dystopia".

MEGADETH's new effort will be the first to feature drummer Dirk Verbeuren (ex-SOILWORK), who joined the band almost four years ago.

LAMB OF GOD's self-titled album was released on June 19 via Epic Records. The follow-up to "VII: Sturm Und Drang" marks LAMB OF GOD's first recordings with Art Cruz, who joined the band last July as the replacement for the group's founding drummer, Chris Adler.

"Lamb Of God" was recorded with longtime producer Josh Wilbur (KORN, MEGADETH, GOJIRA, TRIVIUM) and includes special guest appearances by Jamey Jasta (HATEBREED) and Chuck Billy (TESTAMENT).

Multi-platinum Juno Award-winning rock icon, Canadian Songwriters Hall Of Fame inductee and ex-MAX WEBSTER leader Kim Mitchell has surprise released his brand new single "Wishes". The song is taken from his forthcoming album "The Big Fantasize" (El Mocambo Records), Kim's first full-length recording since 2007's "Ain't Life Amazing".

When it comes to "Wishes", the way the track came to be is just as poetic as its original inspiration.

"The lyrics literally fell into my lap one day in a waiting room," Mitchell recalls. "After very randomly reading A.C. Child's poem 'Wishes', I knew immediately I wanted to turn it into a song. After writing the verses, I quickly realized that, while the poem itself felt complete, now being in a song, it didn't anymore. It needed something lyrically and musically to sum up the whole idea. The challenge would be coming up with a melody and music that would harmonically be satisfying to me, yet present itself as simple, pretty, and serving the lyric. It also needed a musical deviation somewhere… A short, musical passage you could just float away with before coming back to the song's final thought."

Even for one of the country's most ubiquitously heralded songwriters — one who is also soon to be inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall Of Fame — sometimes these things click instantly, and sometimes they don't.

"Of all the 150 or so songs I've written in my career, 'Wishes' took the longest to finish," Mitchell shares. "It took patience. Lots of trial and error, and for years. I'd leave it for months, come back and work on it, leave it again, and then come back. Then, one peaceful morning looking out my front window, the refrain just happened for me while I was vibing on my acoustic guitar. I wasn't even searching, but there it was! Sometimes you don't search for a part, you wait for it to arrive."

A similar sentiment could be considered for "The Big Fantasize", Mitchell's forthcoming full-length release and the vehicle of sorts for "Wishes".

"It was like that classic old car that's been in the garage for a while," Mitchell muses about the album. "You know, the one you're going to strip down and restore 'cause you know there's something special there, but you just never seem to get around to it."

Marking his 13th studio offering — including the five as the leader of MAX WEBSTER — and first in just as many years since 2007's "Ain't Life Amazing", "The Big Fantasize" is the result of sleeves rolled up alongside co-producer and close friend Greg Wells (Keith Urban, Adele, Taylor Swift, TWENTY ONE PILOTS).

Where its predecessor was a fiery and fierce rock album, anchored by big riffs and bigger swagger, "The Big Fantasize" is a more dynamic and musically expansive effort that perfectly encapsulates Mitchell's prowess as a pure and compelling songwriter.

His countless signature anthems permanent fixtures of Canadiana 101, the three-time Juno Award winner has sold over 1.5 million recordings and toured endlessly over the course of his storied career — which also included a fan-favorite 11-year tenure hosting "The Kim Mitchell Show" on Toronto's Q107.

"Grant me these before I die and I'll ask no more of life,'" he says aloud, citing a lyric from "Wishes". "That line can make my eyes misty some days…

"Normally your title is 'composer' when working on a new song," Mitchell considers. "For 'Wishes', my title seemed to be song's roadie, or perhaps its personal assistant. I hope I served it well."

Neal Morse has announced the release of Sola Gratia, his new solo progressive rock concept album, on September 11, 2020. Originating from a seed planted in his mind about writing a record based on the apostle Paul, Sola Gratia quickly came together at the beginning of 2020. The album sees Neal working with long-time collaborators Mike Portnoy, Randy George, Eric Gillette, Bill Hubauer and Gideon Klein.

The title Sola Gratia of course has echoes of Morse’s 2007 epic Sola Scriptura, about the life of Martin Luther, but was in fact originally the result of a simple marital misunderstanding: “I was talking to my wife Cherie about debuting this new piece at Morsefest 2020 (Morse’s annual fan convention in Nashville) and she said she thought it would be good for me to do a solo album. However, I thought she said ‘Sola album’ and – because some of the new ideas involved Paul’s aggressive pursuit of the early Christians, I could see a link to some of the themes of persecution in ‘Sola Scriptura’.”

The music was recorded “virtually” in April 2020 at the height of the Coronavirus lockdown with long term collaborators Mike Portnoy (drums) and Randy George (bass): “It’s the first album we have ever made remotely: I sent them the basic tracks and asked if they wanted to rearrange things, but they just said ‘No, it’s great!’, so they just played to it and sent their parts back over. It wasn’t an easy way to make an album, but creating always has its challenges, no matter how you do it.”

As Morse explains, it was this process that decided that Sola Gratia was to be a Neal Morse album, rather than being credited to The Neal Morse Band: “With the Neal Morse Band, the whole band works together on the writing, and while Eric Gillette plays some guitar and Bill Hubauer has added some keyboards on this one, neither of them wrote – or is singing – on this album.”

Sola Gratia will be released as a limited CD/DVD Digipak (featuring a ‘Making-Of’ documentary), Gatefold 2LP + CD, Standard CD Jewel Case and as a Digital Album. The cover art was created by another longtime collaborator, Thomas Ewerhard.

Neal Morse will debut Sola Gratia live at his annual Morsefest convention on September 18 and 19, 2020. A very limited number of people will be able to attend in person, with the event also being streamed online. More details and tickets are available here.

Amidst the more tumultuous stuff thats appeared, I often find it therapeutic for me to just simply play guitar in the mornings, and over the years I've kind of 'developed' (for lack of a better descriptor) a sort of chilled out, ambient guitar technique. This isn't meant to be focused on, it's meant to be a sort of wash that you can play while working, chilling, or creating something (that's my hope at least). I like playing like this, and in fact, I'd say 80% of what I play with a guitar in my hand over the last decade or so ends up sounding something like this. 

I had recorded some of it in the background of the podcasts (which I will be continuing) and was asked to post it, but it made more sense to me to do a fresh one here. Lots of people still think I'm secretly the same raging metalhead I was in my mid 20's, but it's been a few decades since I legitimately felt that way, I'd say. This improvisation is one take (with a bathroom break I edited out) and I used a Sadowsky Telecaster and a Fractal AX-8 for the sound. Art for this (and the podcast) are done by my good friend Travis Smith at Seempieces.net. Hopefully it's helpful to some of you who need a sonic break. Thanks again for the ability to do this. To celebrate the release of their then new studio album, II, Fortune traveled to Milan, Italy for the 2019 edition of the Frontiers Rock Festival to play a rare live set. A milestone performance, which happened on April 27, 2019, the set will now be released as The Gun’s Still Smokin’ Live, a CD/DVD, on August 7 via Frontiers Music Srl.

Fortune released their self-titled debut album in 1985 on Camel/MCA Records. The album is still highly regarded today by fans of the AOR genre thanks to the soaring vocals of Larry Greene (also featured on the Top Gun soundtrack) and to the magnificent blending of the keyboards of Roger Scott Craig with Richard Fortune’s guitar and Mick Fortune's rhythmic drumming. Sadly, the band called it quits shortly after the release due to their label, Camel, going bankrupt.

The band remained silent for years and while Larry Greene and Roger Scott Craig started working together with the band Harlan Cage, the Fortune brothers started the band back up again as a trio in 2006, until a proper band reunion happened in 2016 when the band performed at Rockingham Rock Festival and - by public demand - again in 2017. These appearances led to discussions with Frontiers about a new studio album, II, which was released in 2019.

 Relapse Records will release Zombi's new album, 2020, on July 17. Their first new album in 5 years, 2020 showcases the songwriting prowess that has pushed the duo of Steve Moore (synthesizers, guitars, bass) and A.E. Dream Theater have released the video below, along with the following message:

Score is Dream Theater's live album/DVD, recorded on April 1, 2006 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City and released in August that year. The concert was the last of their 20th Anniversary Tour, labeled A Very Special Evening With Dream Theater.

Enigmatic dark metal outfit, Deathwhite, has shared a brand new video for the song "Among Us", taken from the band's latest album, Grave Image, which was released earlier this year. The video, which was made by Guilherme Henriques, can be seen below.

Deathwhite comments: "As we are often wont to do, many of the songs on Grave Image were revised and tinkered with until we were satisfied, but no song received a bigger overhaul than 'Among Us.' The song's original tempo was half of its current state; it was doomy, perhaps excessively so. Common sense ultimately prevailed and we were able to not only speed the song up (a term we should use loosely in this context) but also work in a somewhat basic chorus by our standards. The song itself has a fairly simple message: Ignorance, falsehoods and gaslighting are not to be tolerated. Unfortunately, these people are still 'among us,' spreading their untruths and grievances in very public and far-reaching forums. May it all fall on deaf ears."
