Best known for being the frontwoman of the cinematic metal band The Murder Of My Sweet, Angelica Rylin is also an accomplished solo artist. After her debut album, Thrive, which was released in 2013, she has finally decided the time is now for a follow-up.

Norwegian blackened Viking heavy metal solo-band Hjelvik has released a new song and music video for their third single from the upcoming album Welcome To Hel, out on November 20 2020 via Nuclear Blast. Watch the victorious video saga “Glory Of Hel” animated by Adam Avilla of Flesh & Bones in San Francisco, California which includes a guest performance by Matt Pike from the bands High On Fire and Sleep.

Hjelvik is the new solo band of ex-Kvelertak frontman, lyricist, and co-founder Erlend Hjelvik. After touring worldwide with some of the world's greatest bands like Metallica, Slayer, and Ghost, and earning four Norwegian Spelleman awards, Erlend parted ways with his bandmates in 2018 and has spent the last two years songwriting and creating Hjelvik's first solo album.

Hjelvik's first solo album Welcome To Hel, based on Norse mythology and history, includes all the trappings of a lucrative Viking pillage. Tel Aviv metal band Tomorrow’s Rain has released a new music video for their dark metal take on goth icon Nick Cave's beloved classic "The Weeping Song." The cover features guests Anders Jacobsson (Draconian), Kobi Farhi (Orphaned Land) and Lisa Cuthbert (live vocalist for The Sisters Of Mercy) and is found on the band's recently released, debut album Hollow that's available now from AOP Records.

Vocalist Yishai Swearts states: 

"Growing up in the ‘80s Nick Cave was always there, an idol, his lyrics found a warm place within my heart when I was pretty young, apart from that Nick is a mentor when it comes to face traumatic events in life and carry on, heal your soul and sing your pain, Nick's last 2 albums are pure reflection of the message we try to deliver in Hollow: at the end of the day we have to carry on, we have to heal ourselves and continue the journey.

“We think that the interesting idea in a cover version is always to the take song to "your own" area, never understood bands who just played the original song as is, it's pointless and in almost every case it's weaker than the original, by doing a cover the idea is not to be stronger than the original but to play the original in your own language, in your own way.

Last December, Rose underwent surgery for an undisclosed ailment, causing the cancelation of the band's U.K. shows as the support act for ALTER BRIDGE and SHINEDOWN.

In a 2018 interview with CrypticRock.com, Rose admitted that he no longer parties as hard as he once did while on the road with SEVENDUST. "We are not the way that we used to be as far as the self-inflicted damage we put on ourselves with extracurricular stuff," he said. "Some of the guys are in tip-top shape. Me, I tend to have a few more beers or cocktails maybe than the other guy, but I get my rest."

In a 2018 interview with Drummer Visions Magazine, Morgan stated about what got him to play drums to begin with: "My dad basically started me. He played guitar and he wanted someone to jam with, so he bought me a kit when I was really young. Then I got into sports and kind of deserted playing drums, but it was always something I wanted to do. I had a buddy of mine that said, 'I have a band that plays parties and stuff,' so I got a kit and started playing covers at parties, no venues or anything. But I liked it so much that I wanted to learn something. I went to MI for six months and never went to school, I just partied, but I met up with some people who were in the scene and I basically played the whole role of being in a band without ever playing. I went back to Atlanta and started playing at parties again, and a band that was from Atlanta came to one of the parties and asked if I'd be interested in playing in their band. I got the gig but they broke up pretty quick. My name was getting around a little more. Then I started another band by myself, and we didn't have the best band but we were determined. The singer wasn't quite good enough. We got rid of almost everyone in the band and put together another band. That one lasted a few years. But there just wasn't a good vibe in that band. So then we started this band."

SEVENDUST's 13th studio album, "Blood & Stone", was released on October 23 via Rise Records. The follow-up to 2018's "All I See Is War" was once again tracked at Studio Barbarosa in Gotha, Florida with producer Michael "Elvis" Baskette, who has previously worked with ALTER BRIDGE and SLASH, among others.

Fuck The Facts return in 2020 with a new album entitled Pleine Noirceur due out November 20 via their very own label Noise Salvation. The full-length comes five years after they unleashed their Juno nominated Desire Will Rot. Pleine Noirceur continues right where the band left off, offering up another slab of their patented “bastardized” grindcore full of all the twists and turns that fans have come to expect. With only a few weeks left before it officially drops, the band is revealing the next single off the record. "Everything I Love Is Ending", is the second song the band wrote during their break between albums, it exploits the classic grindcore dichotomy between sludgy and grindy.

Fuck The Facts has amassed a respectable discography over the years, and this new offering joins the 7 LPs and 6 EPs released to date. The considerable amount of time the band has been working together shows in the natural chemistry that courses through each of the 12 tracks.

Fuck The Facts comments on the album: “We took a long break before working on this album, I feel like it’s a collection of bits and pieces; old and new, short and long. It’s us working back into the groove, just in time for a pandemic. This album also could have easily been 3 EPs, you really have to listen to the whole thing in order to fully enjoy it. It opens the door for what is next.”

What started as a basement recording project in the late '90s has blossomed into one of the most prolific bands in the Canadian extreme underground scene. Fuck The Facts have always been more about making albums than just writing songs, using what’s left over for a separate EP, but this time around they decided to put the extra songs as bonus tracks on the different physical copies of the release, so the vinyl, CD and cassette versions will each have a different bonus track that’s not available on the digital release.

The unapologetic, experimental album probably needs a few listens in order to fully enjoy. Put some noise-canceling headphones, choose your drug of choice, close your eyes, and enjoy.

Don Airey is a rock legend. Fact. Since replacing Jon Lord in Deep Purple back in 2002, he has contributed to several studio albums culminating in the band’s recent release, Whoosh! His musical pedigree also includes Gary Moore, Rainbow, MSG, Ozzy Osbourne, and also several solo albums. AntiHero Magazine caught up with Airey to discuss the new Deep Purple album and other high points of his carer. Following is an excerpt from the interview.

AntHero: Deep Purple. Your latest album has achieved massive global success. Does it still surprise you regarding the enduring appeal of the band?

Don Airey: "Yes. It really has. You do an album; you don’t know how people are going to react to it. Usually we have a law saying they loved the last one, they’re going to hate this one. But it doesn’t seem to have worked like that this time. The reaction has been overwhelming, I must say." 

AntiHero: Just to pick out another band that you’ve worked with, that you contributed keyboards to Judas Priest's Painkiller album. What was your given remit going into creating keyboards in a band that isn’t generally renowned for it using any keyboards?"

Don Airey: "They were so worried about it they didn’t even give me a credit, I don’t think, on the album. They paid me, which is always the point. But recently, I mean this last month or so… it’s a wonderful album, Painkiller."

AntiHero: Absolutely.

Don Airey: "And Scott Travis (drums) has spilled the beans about it, that all the bass parts are me playing on the mini. It’s Moog bass on the whole album; that was Ian Hill’s bass mixed in as well on parts. But at the time Ian wasn’t very well so he wasn’t at the sessions. So, I got made to do all the bass and they kept it. I mean, it was a funny old job. I only got to play proper keyboards on one track, I can’t remember what the track is. I just read about it yesterday that they’d actually said, I’ve never said a word about it before. I mean, it was an exciting album to do. They’re wonderful people to be around."

A pallet of new Gibson Adam Jones 1979 Les Paul Custom Silverburst guitars has been stolen from a Sweetwater Music truck at the Flying J Travel Center in Whiteland, Indiana on October 30. The truck was en route to Fort Wayne, Indiana, the headquarters of Sweetwater Sound.

"Somehow out of a truck full of guitars, this ONE pallet was singled out and stolen at a truck stop," says Sweetwater chief supply chain and merchandising officer Phil Rich. "Totaling close to $95,000 in guitars, we feel this person/s knew exactly what to look for and when."

"These guitars were the dream guitars of 13 Gibson and Adam Jones fans, who had been patiently waiting for them to be delivered," says Cesar Gueikian of Gibson. "We have decided to publish the serial numbers of the 13 stolen guitars and are appealing to all of Gibson's fans to keep an eye out for them and let us know if they surface. Our fans should ask any third-party sellers for a serial number before purchasing to be sure they are not being sold one of the stolen guitars."

Memphis metal band, Hammer Down Hard, have released a music video for the track “Cephalopod”. Lonnie hammer, the innovative mastermind behind Hammer Down Hard, once again proves his prowess as a lyricist and songwriter with his latest release, “Cephalopod”.

“The album’s title came during all this and the sort of post-apocalyptic world we’re living in,” frontman Mike Hill explains. “It encapsulates an overall feeling of gloom and depression which is pretty much how we’ve been living for most of this year. The title was the last piece to fall into place. I remember standing on the roof of the building I was living in at the time on a grey day and it was raining – actually, it wasn’t even raining; it was a half-assed attempt at rain! – and depressing and I just thought, ‘What a sullen sky’ and it just stuck with me.”

The album starts with “Bone Furnace,” a furious blast of melodic black metal that shifts gears towards an anthemic fist-pumping slog through the Goth rock-thrash metal Venn Diagram. “Void Constellation” takes as many cues from Peaceville Three gloom and doom as it does the death metal stomp of Obituary and Incantation. “Descensum” mines the various well-worn parts of Ride The Lightning for influence before blasting the doors open with some startlingly spacious chromatic single-note atonality. As the album progresses, further textures and moods are employed via acoustic instrumentation and keyboards as well as sampled soundscapes all butting heads with furious second wave black metal and sly to nods to death rock heroes Sisters Of Mercy and Fields Of The Nephilim, all of the band’s motivations and interests being dropped into the chameleonic pair of tracks closing the album, “Sombre Ruin” and the appropriately titled “Plague Years.”

“‘Barren’ stands out as the song that’s most collaborative,” notes Hill. “Justin wrote the bulk of the riffs on that one, that sort of NWOBHM/Scorpions ending part is something I came up with, Matt added a bunch of guitar harmonies over it and Drew’s bass is laid thick underneath. That one is one of the biggest group efforts and one of the strongest songs on the record.

“I explore a lot of the archetypes that are used in folklore on this record, like werewolves and vampires which I’ve always been interested in, and on a song like ‘Secrets of the Black Sun’ I talk about the finite nature of our time on this planet, that nothing is really permanent and being aware of that whether as an individual or as a civilization, which I guess fits in with the pandemic and the changes that are going on. There are all kinds of other people, civilizations and creatures that have come and gone long before us and if you think about it over a long enough time span, everyone’s life expectancy goes down to zero.”

Swedish folk rock pioneers, Garmarna, are streaming their upcoming record, Förbundet, available Friday, November 6, via Season Of Mist.

The Ocean recently released their eighth full-length album via Metal Blade Records (CD / digital) and the band's own Pelagic Records (vinyl); Phanerozoic II: Mesozoic | Cenozoic is their most successful album to date with the highest chart entries in the band's history, including a Top 10 entry in the Official German Album Charts.

Now, the band is releasing a stunning tour documentary from their 2019 Siberian Traps tour, which the band shot themselves. It can be viewed below.

guitarist Robin Staps comments: "One of the greatest adventures with this band was the five week Siberian Traps tour last summer, which started in Belarus, Armenia and Georgia, then took us on a 10,000 km ride from St. Petersburg to Vladivostok, all across Russia and Kazakhstan from west to east, before concluding in Japan. We lived on trains for weeks. We had to leave half of our gear behind at the airport of Nur-Sultan, Kazachstan. We experienced the solitude of lake Baikal, the solemnity of Armenian monasteries, the exuberance of Georgian hospitality and the silent anonymity of Shibuya crowds. Some of these moments were captured on film, by band members. We had no camera guy with us, nor any crew: this tour was just us. Our sound guy had second thoughts and bailed a week before the tour. Alex Kraudelt compiled these self-made snapshots into a silent documentary, after our return home."

"We found the instrumental version of 'Triassic' to be the perfectly fitting soundtrack: also because parts of it were recorded during our one week stay in Yerevan, Armenia with traditional flutes and woodwinds player Hayk Karoyi Karapetyan, whom you will see in the opening and closing section of the film. The song itself was inspired by my own backpacking trips through the Middle East fifteen years ago, long before the current wars ravaged the region."

During an appearance on a recent episode of Dean Delray's "Let There Be Talk" podcast, Rob Halford was asked if he does any vocal warm-ups before performing live with JUDAS PRIEST. He said (hear audio below): "I just go out and do it. And as I've been doing this now for 50-odd years, I really have to save my voice; I have to make sure that it's got the strength. 'Cause when you're drinking, that's the worst thing for your voice, especially when you're a doing a show. How the hell did I get through those shows [before I got sober]?

"Yeah, I've been using these pipes for 50 years, and I'm trying to get the most out of them," he continued. "I've had to make some adjustments. I wish I could sing 'Painkiller' like I did in '91, but I can't. But I can have a good go. I can give it a good thrashing and a good whack. But even now, after I've done 'Painkiller' and I finish the song on the stage and the crowd is roaring, I'm going, 'Could have done better. That note wasn't quite there.'

"That's the just the way we push ourselves in this band," Rob added. "We just love to give the best that we possibly can."

Halford's latest comments echo those he made six years ago while discussing his diminished vocal capabilities in a live situation. "I get frustrated, and I freely admit that I wish I could do the stuff that I could do when I was laying down the tracks in 1974 or 1975, but that's just ridiculous," he said at the time. "I don't think any singer can requalify those moments again. So you go out and you do your best, you know?!"

In a July 2014 interview with the Birmingham Mail, Halford stated about how his vocal performance has evolved over the last four decades: "The voice changes obviously. The trick is just to look after it — don't drink, don't smoke, don't do drugs. I look after my voice these days, and still belt it out.

"When I was a raging drunk and drug addict, I really abused my voice. Thank God I realized I was doing some stupid things. You can damage your voice, and find that you can't do softer things in your music."

Last year, former JUDAS PRIEST singer Tim "Ripper" Owens praised Halford, saying that he is "singing better now than he has in a long time. He sounds absolutely phenomenal," Owens said. "And it's great to hear some of these classic songs that he's singing on stage. That's a great thing… Like I said, Rob is singing so good now — he really is. And he looks good, and I think he feels good."

Owens joined PRIEST in 1996 and recorded two studio albums with the band, 1997's "Jugulator" and 2001's "Demolition", before PRIEST reunited with Halford in 2003.

Halford is promoting his autobiography, "Confess", which arrived on September 29 via Hachette Books. The book has been described by the U.K.'s The Telegraph as "one of the most candid and surprising memoirs of the year."

In September, JUDAS PRIEST and Rufus Publications announced the publication of the first-ever official JUDAS PRIEST book documenting the band's extensive history over the last 50 years. Titled "Judas Priest - 50 Heavy Metal Years", the book has been put together by David Silver, Ross Halfin and Jayne Andrews.

Prior to being canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, JUDAS PRIEST's spring/summer 2020 European tour was scheduled to kick off on May 30 in Helsinki, Finland and conclude on July 28 in Tilburg, the Netherlands. The band was also slated to headline the U.K.'s Bloodstock Open Air festival on August 9 at Catton Park, Derbyshire.

The U.S. leg of PRIEST's "50 Heavy Metal Years" tour was due to launch September 9 in Oxon Hill, Maryland and wrap up on October 17 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Angus Young says that the possibility of AC/DC continuing with singer Axl Rose after the completion of the band's "Rock Or Bust" tour "never really came up."

AC/DC postponed the last 10 dates of its spring 2016 North American trek after singer Brian Johnson was advised to stop playing live or "risk total hearing loss." The band went on to complete the European and North American legs of its "Rock Or Bust" tour with the GUNS N' ROSES frontman as a "guest vocalist."

In a new interview with Total Guitar, Young said: "That never really came up. Axl was really very generous, and he helped us out to get through our touring side at a difficult spot. He had contacted us and said he could help if it didn't interfere with his own commitments of what he was going. ... He wanted to come in and try songs that he himself liked, and he was suggesting songs I hadn't played in a long time. I'm definitely grateful that he volunteered, and that had helped us finish off our commitment. But he has his own life."

AC/DC's North American tour ended in Philadelphia in September 2016, and despite initial fan trepidation, Axl got generally good reviews for his performances. Angus said at the time: "I mean, under the situation that we had, it was very good that he volunteered and said, 'Hey, if I can help, let me try.' So he's been very good. And he had to learn a lot of songs very quickly, and he's done a great job."

Duff McKagan, who is one-third of the reunited partial classic lineup of GUNS N' ROSES, got a chance to watch Rose and AC/DC play in June 2016 in London, England and in September 2016 in Cleveland, Ohio.

Duff spoke about Axl's collaboration with AC/DC during a 2019 appearance on "The Church Of What's Happening Now" podcast. He said: "The way [Axl] did that was amazing. He was, like, 'If you guys don't mind, I'm gonna go try out. They need a hand here.' [Late AC/DC frontman] Bon Scott's his all-time [hero]. [We said], 'Dude, you know you don't really have to try out for AC/DC.' But he was really nervous. 'I'm gonna go try out. It fits in with our touring perfect.' And Slash and I were, like, 'You've got the gig.' But he went to Atlanta and tried out, quote-unquote, and got the gig. I saw him twice on that tour. I flew to London to see him, and I flew to Cleveland to see that. It was great."

McKagan added: "I think what it did for [Axl]… We got to know Angus through that. Angus has now come out and played with us a bunch of times. That was that thing when he was 14 or 15, 'Man, one day, if I ever got to be in AC/DC…' He was singing with a broom, and he finally got to do it. Amazing."

AC/DC will release its long-awaited comeback album, "Power Up", on November 13. The follow-up to 2014's "Rock Or Bust" was recorded over a six-week period in August and September 2018 at Warehouse Studios in Vancouver with producer Brendan O'Brien, who also worked 2008's "Black Ice" and 2014's "Rock Or Bust".

Although AC/DC originally planned on releasing "Power Up" earlier this year, the pandemic forced the band to reconsider.

Leviathan Records, the label run by guitarist David Chastain, has posted more live footage from the archives.

A message states: "Chastain exploded onto the metal scene with the release of their epic debut album, Mystery Of Illusion, in 1985. Shortly after the release of that album the band met up in Cincinnati, Ohio to play a concert at Bogart's. The band for the show was David T. Chastain on guitar, Leather Leone on vocals, Mike Skimmerhorn on bass, Russell Jinkens on second guitar and Les Sharp on drums.

"The concert was actually a showcase for a major label that Mike Varney had arranged. We recently found this concert on a Beta tape and had it transferred to digital format. Considering the show was 35 years ago and shot on one camera by a fan, it obviously has some technical flaws but we decided to release it for its "historical" importance. Leather's performance alone is worth the price of admission!

"'Mystery Of Illusion' shows the band's mastery of light and dark dynamics. Mystery Of Illusion has just been reissued on CD by Divebomb Records."

NYC death metal act, Winter Nights, are unveiling their new lyric video for "Withdrawals", in support of their self-titled album released this past July.

Heavy, somber, and progressive, vocalist and guitarist Jeremy Farfan explains the message behind the song and video: "When this song was written. It was a weird time as I just had ankle surgery and was laying in a hospital bed hopped up on painkillers staring at the rain smashing against the window while in serious pain. The idea behind it came from not wanting to deal with the immediate post-surgery pain.

"Withdrawal from life in general. In the weeks to come, I was blessed to have my amp stack at home and spent most days jamming out while barely being mobile. This song was conjured and as soon as I returned to the studio rehearsal, it ultimately flowed like water from the first note we played..."

Former SLIPKNOT percussionist Chris Fehn appears to have settled his lawsuit againt the band on claims he hadn't been properly compensated for his years of touring and recording with the group. Fehn, a member since 1998, was officially dismissed from the band early last year.

The case was voluntarily discontinued on October 29 "with prejudice," meaning Fehn can't refile the lawsuit on the same claim.

This past June, the judge presiding over the case determined that Fehn and SLIPKNOT would benefit from an opportunity to participate in mediation and ordered both sides' attorneys to submit to the mediator a pre-mediation statement three business days before the mediation and submit a status update three business days before each additional session.

Because confidentiality and non-disparagement clauses are often found in settlement and severance agreements between individuals and their employers, the existence of any settlement agreement between Fehn and SLIPKNOT and its terms will likely be kept private and never publicly revealed.

Fehn sued SLIPKNOT members Corey Taylor and Michael Shawn Crahan (a.k.a. Clown) in March 2019, claiming that he had been told that all the band's income was being funneled through one company that split the profits between the group members. But he alleged that he later discovered the existence of several other SLIPKNOT-related business entities through which other members were collecting more money.

Fehn specifically accused Crahan and Taylor of shady business dealings and demanded a full forensic accounting done on SLIPKNOT's companies and assets, so that he could collect the damages and profits he believes he is owed.

Shortly after the lawsuit was filed, SLIPKNOT dismissed Fehn in a statement posted to the band's web site, saying, "Chris knows why he is no longer a part of SLIPKNOT. We are disappointed that he chose to point fingers and manufacture claims, rather than doing what was necessary to continue to be a part of SLIPKNOT."

Taylor also addressed the accusations via Twitter, saying: "Try being wrongfully accused of stealing money from someone you cared about, and having a lot of your fans believe it."

Fehn, known for wearing a Pinocchio-style mask, participated in all the band's albums through 2014's ".5: The Gray Chapter".

Chris was replaced in SLIPKNOT's touring lineup by a percussionist nicknamed "Tortilla Man." Tortilla Man is believed to be the multi-instrumentalist Michael Pfaff, who played keyboards with Crahan in the band DIRTY LITTLE RABBITS and is also a member of the Iowa-based duo THE SNACKS.

Tortilla Man joined SLIPKNOT in May 2019, when he was first featured in the video for comeback single "Unsainted".

SLIPKNOT's latest album, "We Are Not Your Kind", was released in August 2019 via Roadrunner Records.

Legendary rocker Alice Cooper has released a "fact video" for his classic song "Elected".

The Godfather of Shock Rock recently produced a new "campaign" video for "Elected". The clip takes a lighthearted look at the process and positions Cooper as the best presidential candidate. Running on the Wild Party ticket, Cooper's campaign platform speaks volumes: "I can do nothing as well as they can do nothing."

The new video features call-backs to the original 1972 music video, in which Cooper first announced his "candidacy" and the formation of the Wild Party.

Since all eyes and ears are on this year's heated election, Cooper's video administers just the right dose of levity that we all need. The song remains a tried and true anthem for modern times.

"Elected" was the first single from Cooper's iconic sixth studio album, "Billion Dollar Babies". The record reached No. 1 in the U.S. and U.K. and was certified platinum by the RIAA.

In a 2018 interview with The Guardian, Cooper said that he keeps his political opinions to himself. "I don't like to mix politics and rock 'n' roll," he said. "I don't look at Bono, Sting and Bruce Springsteen as political. I look at them as being humanitarian. I'll contribute to anything humanitarian. Helping people who can't help themselves. But when musicians are telling people who to vote for, I think that's an abuse of power. You're telling your fans not to think for themselves, just to think like you. Rock 'n' roll is about freedom — and that's not freedom."

Four years ago, Cooper said that rock stars offering their political opinions is "the worst idea ever." "First of all, why do people think rock stars know more than they do?" he said. "That is the biggest fallacy in the world — if anything, we're dumber. We're not smarter than anybody else. I mean, why do you think we're rock stars?

"Trust me, we don't read magazines you don't read. Nobody calls us up and gives us as inside information on politics. We know less than you do. If I watch TV, it's 'Family Guy'.

"Rock 'n' roll was built to go as far away from politics as you could get. When my mom and dad talked about who to vote for, I'd go in the other room and put on THE BEATLES or ROLLING STONES — and I'm still like that."

Cooper, who considers himself a humanitarian, said that he had no problem with artists using their platform to highlight global issues if it benefited others.

He said: "I think what Bono does and what [Bruce] Springsteen does, Sting and all the people that raise money for others — that's humanitarian, and I'm all for that. But I don't think that's political."

In a 2016 interview with Rolling Stone, Cooper stated about then-Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump: "He's an interesting character. It seems like he shoots himself in the foot every single day and gets more popular by doing it. It's the weirdest. It's like [Kurt] Vonnegut: Everything that shouldn't happen is happening."

Cooper previously said that he would even go so far as to do the opposite of what everyone else is doing just to make a point. During the 2004 election season, he said: "When I read the list of people who are supporting Kerry, if I wasn't already a Bush supporter, I would have immediately switched. Linda Ronstadt? Don Henley? Geez, that's a good reason right there to vote for Bush."

He also mused about sitting between such political rocker icons as John Lennon and Harry Nilsson while they argued politics and thinking, "I don't care."

HATE ETERNAL has released an entirely instrumental version of 2018's "Upon Desolate Sands" album. The record is available now via the official HATE ETERNAL Bandcamp at this location.

For this album, the inspiration came and the heaviness followed. Using a lower tuning then our norm for a few songs on 'Upon Desolate Sands' and going through some personal life experiences, helped create a depth of darkness and sense of despair to inspire me to write 'Nothingness Of Being'. I never have forced anything when it comes to the writing process, we just let the songs flow naturally and write and play what we feel. Crafting a couple of songs with a completely different tuning really helped direct a different path and direction for the writing process. Founded in St. Petersburg, Florida in the year 1997, HATE ETERNAL is the brainchild of extreme metal luminary Erik Rutan, who created a charging death metal juggernaut. In the United States this style has been virtually synonymous with Florida and especially the Tampa Bay Area for a long time.

More aggressive and technically complex than its Swedish counterpart, Floridian death metal grew out of thrash during the mid-1980s and was founded by such as the legendary DEATH, OBITUARY and MORBID ANGEL. While many of its early protagonists went on experimental paths, HATE ETERNAL remains true to the original formula, while continuously pushing the boundaries of this extreme style.

Metal brothers Sakis and Themis Tolis of the Greek metal legends ROTTING CHRIST have been bestowed the immortal honor of having a newly discovered fossil species named after them. Two researchers from the Natural History Museum in Luxembourg, Dr. Ben Thuy and and Dr. Lea Numberger, recently found a new brittle-star species and decided to name it "Brezinacantha Tolis" in honor of the Tolis brothers.

Sakis Tolis comments: "My deepest thanks to the paleontological community, and especially to Dr. Ben Thuy and Dr. Lea Numberger, to name a fossil under my name! This is one of the greatest honors I have received as an individual and musician and gives me power to keep on creating during these wild times. Brezinacantha Tolis can be found in the Natural History Museum in Maastricht. If you are close, have a look."

Dr. Ben Thuy and Dr. Lea Numberger explain the inspiration behind the fossil name: "When we first saw the fossil brittle star, we immediately knew it was something exciting. It turned out to be a species new to science, and so we had the privilege to name it. With the choice of the name, we wanted to combine our joint passions for science and music, and decided to honor one of our favorite bands. The new fossil belongs to an animal that lived in a dark, toxic environment in the depths of an ancient ocean, dwelling on the remains of their dead predecessors. This is pure black metal! Naming this species after Sakis and Themis Tolis is our way to issue an academic recognition of their talent and hard work. Now they own a small piece of immortality, because scientific species names are for eternity."

ROTTING CHRIST's latest album, "The Heretics", was released in February 2019 via Season Of Mist.

Bassist Kelly Nickels, a member of L.A. GUNS' "classic" incarnation who currently plays for Steve Riley's version of L.A. GUNS, was asked in a new interview with Australia's Heavy if there was a sense of competition between the bands on the late 1980s Sunset Strip rock scene or if there was more of a "united front" between all the acts. He responded (hear audio below): "I wouldn't say it was a united front. We were all kind of indirectly maybe trying to outdo each other and stuff, hoping to draw the bigger crowds and sell more records and everything. You were kind of focused on what you were doing that you didn't really pay attention to other bands that much. I knew who was happening and who people were talking about, but I didn't go see them or hang out with them. I was worried about my own shit."

Asked if he thinks the rock world will ever encounter another influential scene like that again, Nickels said: "I don't know. There are not too many scenes coming around anymore, I don't think. That really helped. Fashion was big, and the music, and there was a pulse coming out of there. I don't know if you'll ever see that again. Hopefully something will come and give it some kind of focus. But it's hard to say. It just comes from everywhere now."

Steve Riley's version of L.A. GUNS will release its debut album, "Renegades", on November 13 via Golden Robot Records. The LP's arrival was preceded by three singles: "Crawl", " Well Oiled Machine" and the title track.

Riley's version of L.A. GUNS is not to be confused with the band led by guitarist Tracii Guns and vocalist Phil Lewis, which issued two well-received albums, "The Missing Peace" and "The Devil You Know", plus the live release "Made In Milan", under the L.A. GUNS name over the last three years.

Riley is joined in his version of the group by Orlando, Florida-based guitarist/vocalist Kurt Frohlich, Nickels and guitarist Scott Griffin (who played bass for the band from 2007 until 2009, and then again from 2011 to 2014).

In a new interview with the "Australian Rock Show", MOTÖRHEAD guitarist Phil Campbell was asked if there was one piece of advice the band's late frontman Lemmy gave him that he still carries around with him. He responded (hear audio below): "I guess things just rub off on you over a period of time. When I joined MOTORHEAD, he did say one thing. He said, 'Look, Phil, I trust you a hundred percent musically. You play what you feel is right. But just don't wear shorts on stage.' 'Cause I think [former MOTÖRHEAD guitarist] Brian Robertson had been wearing shorts on some gigs before me.

"I think he just said, 'Make you're always not ripping off fans, and they're getting their value for their buck,' which is always true," Phil continued. "It's just general, down-to-earth kind of stuff, really. [He was a] down-to-earth guy that just happened to play loud."

Lemmy died in December 2015 at the age of 70 shortly after learning he had been diagnosed with cancer.

He had dealt with several health issues over the last few years of his life, including heart trouble, forcing him to cut back on his famous smoking habits.

MOTÖRHEAD had to cancel a number of shows in 2015 because of Lemmy's poor health, although the band did manage to complete one final European tour a couple of weeks before his death.

A few years before his death, Lemmy told Classic Rock magazine that bringing in Robertson as "Fast" Eddie Clarke's replacement in MOTÖRHEAD was a mistake. "I thought that he'd carry on looking like he'd done in THIN LIZZY," he said. "Instead he dressed like a cunt. Who needs Vagina Man in their band?"

A Lemmy biopic will go into production next year, The film, "Lemmy", will be directed by Greg Olliver, who previously helmed the 2010 documentary of the same name, "Lemmy".

PHIL CAMPBELL AND THE BASTARD SONS, the band featuring Campbell alongside his sons Todd, Dane and Tyla, plus vocalist Neil Starr, will release its new album, "We're The Bastards", on November 13 via Nuclear Blast.

In a recent interview with The Pit, HALESTORM frontwoman Lzzy Hale was asked if she still panics before she takes the stage at a concert. She responded (see video below): "It's not necessarily a matter of getting rid of that or calming myself down. It's just something that's always been there. And maybe when I was a young teenager, it was a little bit more overwhelming, but it is still this… And I say 'panic' in such a positive way. And something different will always trigger it, whether somebody says, 'Hey, we only have 10 minutes till showtime,' and then, all of a sudden, I'll be, like, 'Oooh' — [I'll feel] this electricity. And all of a sudden, your mindset just changes, and it's almost like you just become sharpened — 'Okay, it's happening. The task at hand is happening. It's real.'

"I think it was maybe more overwhelming back in the day, but it still happens every single night," she admitted. "And I feel like if it doesn't, if that ever goes away, I've gotta quit or something, because it is such an amazing tool.

"We don't use any click tracks or any backing tracks, there's no lip synching, and we actually have jam sessions live in front of people where we don't really know how we're gonna end a song," Lzzy explained. "And so that's a whole different element, because when you're walking on stage, you're depending on each other and you're depending on yourself. And things could go amazing and be this amazing moment that you'll never forget, or they can go horribly wrong. But that's up to you, and that's the beauty of live music. So that's more of the feeling that I get."

"Halestorm Reimagined", a collection of reworked HALESTORM original songs as well as a cover of "I Will Always Love You", the love ballad made famous by Whitney Houston and Dolly Parton, was made available in August.

Lzzy said in a recent interview with SiriusXM's "Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk" that she is using the downtime during the COVID-19 lockdown to keep working on material for HALESTORM's fifth studio LP.

HALESTORM has been writing and demoing material since January, with Hale saying she can record almost everything except drums in her home studio.

The next HALESTORM album will follow up 2018's "Vicious".

Former JUDAS PRIEST singer Tim "Ripper" Owens has questioned the integrity of the voting process in the U.S. presidential election, saying "'American Idol''s voting is fairer than what's going on."

Owens, who frequently "likes" tweets that support President Donald Trump's policies and that are derogatory to Democrats, took to the social media platform on Wednesday to write: "So a state now has more votes then [sic] registered voters? Hahaha. I mean it's easy to see what's going on here!"

Tim was apparently referring to the debunked rumor that went viral on social media that Wisconsin had counted more votes (3,239,920) than it had registered voters (3,129,000). On Twitter, a number of people claimed that this was clear evidence of fraud. (According to Wisconsin Elections Commission, there were 3,684,726 active registered voters as of November 1.)

A few hours later, Owens added in a separate tweet: "This is amazing and sad, I mean when American Idol's voting is fairer then [sic] what's going on you know you have a problem".

Last January, Owens told Detroit's WRIF radio station that he is "a middle-of-the-road guy in politics. I don't really talk too much about it," he said. "My Facebook page and my Instagram and Twitter pages aren't filled with it. I don't post about it — I might like something, but I don't post it. I kind of call it common sense — I think whatever is right, I kind of think is right. But, man, when someone thinks you're one way… I'm not joking about it. This never happened in the past. Eight years ago, four years ago, ten years ago, this stuff didn't happen — I get messages wishing death upon my family if I don't believe in their political views. And it's the craziest thing I've ever seen. I've never done that in my life."

Owens weighed in on the U.S. presidential race back in 2016, saying that Trump was perhaps what America needed to move the country forward. Claiming that he wasn't a Democrat or a Republican ("I'm in the middle," he said), Owens explained that he couldn't vote for Hillary Clinton because of "the way they tax people." He went on to say that America "had eight years of really bad" under President Barack Obama and opined that "a lot of American people" were "just trying to figure out something other than what [Obama] was doing."

Back in 2012, Owens revealed in an interview that he was voting for Mitt Romney in that year's election.

Owens joined PRIEST in 1996 and recorded two studio albums with the band, 1997's "Jugulator" and 2001's "Demolition", before PRIEST reunited with Rob Halford in 2003.

IRON MAIDEN's Adrian Smith has reflected on the passing of Eddie Van Halen, saying the VAN HALEN axeman was a "fantastic" player who had a tremendous impact on the guitar community.

Smith discussed his appreciation for the groundbreaking musician, who died from cancer on October 6 at age 65, in a brand new interview with Canada's The Metal Voice.

He said (hear audio below): "Probably him and Jimi Hendrix, certainly in my lifetime, have had the biggest effect on the electric guitar. I loved his playing, although when he came out, I had already been playing five or six years. If I had been starting out when I heard him, I would have just copied him, like 99 percent of the other guitarists did. But, yeah, he was fantastic. I'd love to have met him. I came close a couple of times, but I never met him. And I love his guitar sound. If I've got a guitar and an amp and I'm just trying to get a sound, I'd probably use him as a reference point."

Earlier this year, Smith spoke to Andertons Music Co about which bands inspired him to pick up the guitar. He said: "First bands I listened to, that got me into music, were [DEEP] PURPLE, 'Machine Head' era, FREE, 'Free Live' [with Paul] Kossoff, HUMBLE PIE, going back a bit now. All sort of English raucous kind of bands. When [I] started out playing, [I] played THE [ROLLING] STONES and BEATLES, 'cause they were a few chords; it was easy. And twelve-bar blues — that's how we started."

Adrian is rumored to have collaborated with THE WINERY DOGS guitarist/vocalist Richie Kotzen on a new album, tentatively due in 2021.

Smith is currently promoting his memoir, "Monsters Of River & Rock", which was released on September 3 via Virgin Books.

Smith was born in Hackney, East London, on February 27, 1957. He joined IRON MAIDEN at the end of 1980. Adrian is the bandmember who has collaborated on the most side projects outside of IRON MAIDEN, as well as writing and recording a series of albums in the early '90s, before rejoining the band. IRON MAIDEN has sold 100 million albums, and tour the world playing to millions of fans. Onstage, Adrian uses Jackson and Gibson guitars. Offstage, he is an avid tennis player. However, his main hobby is fishing.
