SKINFLINT To Release Baloi Album This Month; "Sangoma Blood Magic" Music Video Streaming

African metallists, Skinflint, return on October 25 with their latest album, Baloi, which will be immediately supported by almost a month’s worth of live dates in the US, when the trio tours with Soulfly.

Comprised of guitarist/vocalist Giuseppe Sbrana, bassist Kebonye Nkoloso, and drummer Cosmos Modisaemang, Skinflint’s latest album is their seventh release overall (and issued via Into Records). Pre-order here.

"Baloi is the rawest and most aggressive album we have done," explains the group's long-time leader, Giuseppe Sbrana. "We recorded it in as few takes as possible. This was done intentionally as we wanted to capture the spirit of the band, in its most natural way as possible. This is who we are, without any masks, in our rawest form and without inhibitions. Baloi is glorious in its imperfection."

And it turns out that one of the album's standout tracks, "Sangoma Blood Magic", has been issued as a music video, which can be viewed below.

"Everywhere you go in Africa, you will hear of Sangomas and we chose this track as the music video, because it shows a prominent aspect of African culture and spirituality," explains Sbrana. "The song was originally composed in a non-metal way, using traditional drums and chanting. We have included this track in the album also (traditional) to show the origins, the skeleton of the song that led to the inspiration for Sangoma Blood magic. I think it's a very powerful track and is deeply rooted in African tradition. It was the best choice for the video."

And lastly, Skinflint is very much looking to hit the road once more with Soulfly.

"It's an honor to play with Soulfly," Sbrana adds. "We are excited for the tour and looking forward to our return to the US. We are going to focus on the upcoming tour and album launch for now. We plan to do more tours in support of 'Baloi' and start writing new mus

KING DIAMOND On Being Threatened With Lawsuit By KISS - "They Were Not The Ones That Inspired Me... It Was ALICE COOPER And PETER GABRIEL"

Metal Hammer has issued a new feature on Danish metal icon, King Diamond, reflecting on a 2016 interview in which he looked back on supernatural encounters, near-death experiences, Metallica’s approval and run-ins with Gene Simmons.

In the following excerpt, King reflects on the time he was nearly sued by KISS:

It was also in 1988 that King was reportedly threatened with a lawsuit by KISS. At that time, KISS had been out of make-up for six years. But, KISS being KISS, had their image trademarked. On his 1988 album Them, King had his face painted in a design that bore a strong resemblance to that used by Gene Simmons.

“They might have wanted to sue me,” he says. “But lots of people used make-up before KISS, and they were not the ones that inspired me. It was Alice Cooper and Peter Gabriel. But I don’t hate KISS; I still listen to them.”

In the end the lawsuit never materialized. King believes he knows why. “I didn’t have much to be sued for,” he says, laughing.

Find the full feature at Metal Hammer.

King Diamond will embark on a long-awaited North American headlining tour this month. The Saint Lucifer's Hospital 1920 trek will commence on October 15 in San Antonio, Texas and run through December 6 in Dallas, Texas. Support will be provided by Overkill and Night Demon. Additional backing vocals for the King Diamond set will be provided by the special guest, Myrkur.

In August of 2008, King Diamond joined Metallica on stage at Ozzfest in Dallas to perform the Mercyful Fate medley made famous from the Garage, Inc. album. Additionally, King Diamond was featured alongside Motӧrhead's Lemmy Kilmister as a

DELAIN Share Live Version Of Fan Favourite Track "Moth To A Flame"; Audio

Symphonic metal storytellers, Delain, today share a brand new live version of evocative, fan-favourite song, "Moth To A Flame".

The live track is included on their upcoming EP, Dance With The Devil, due for release on November 8 via Napalm Records, and sure to excite fans further as they look forward to the group's headline tour coming up fast next month. The song’s original version was released on their latest full-length opus, Dark Waters (2023), which debuted at #9 on both the US Hard Music Albums chart and the Official German Album Charts, marking it the band’s most successful record to date.

Keyboardist, founder, and main songwriter Martijn Westerholt says, “’Moth To A Flame’ has been such a great surprise for us because the fans have responded to it with a ton of enthusiasm! It quickly became a fan favourite and always sparks an especially loud response from the crowd when we play it live. It even claimed a recurring place on national radio in Finland which is amazing. In short, after this successful festival season it definitely deserves a special spot in the Delain catalogue.”

Delain return to the UK and Ireland in November for seven headline dates. Joining them for all dates will be West Mids rock squad Stone Broken and progressive metal musician Damian Wilson. Dates and tickets here.

Listen to "Moth To A Flame" (Live)" below:

The new EP showcases the best of Delain’s discography while boldly striding into a promising future that explores more synth-driven soundscapes than ever before.

As their second release with a revitalized lineup, anchored by founding member and band mastermind Martijn Westerholt, Dance With The Devil features a thrilling collection of two brand new tracks, two newly-presented favourites, nine electrifying live performances, and two instrumental bonus tracks, displaying the best of their catchy, melodic signature sound with extensive, electronic synth elements and fresh, modern nuances.

The offering opens with two gripping new tracks, heartfelt anthem “Dance With The Devil” and emotional whirlwind “The Reaping,” which expresses disillusionment with society's current path towards inescapable consequences. The EP then presents a brand-new version of "Sleepwalkers Dream", revealing Diana Leah’s breath-taking full vocal glory. Dance With The Devil continues with nine live performances, featuring massively-streamed hits from the breadth of the band's acclaimed catalogue. These include "Burning Bridges", "The Quest And The Curse", "Moth To A Flame", and their enormo-hit "April Rain", which has been streamed over 10 million times, along with "Queen Of Shadow". In addition, the digipak edition features instrumental versions of “Dance With The Devil” and “The Reaping”, as well as an alternate ending version of “Underland”. Delain’s new EP impressively underlines the group's impeccably high-class standing in the scene and without a doubt, will make fans fall in love with them all over again.

Martijn Westerholt comments, “We’re really excited and eager to share this new Delain song with the world. It captures the recognisable and signature sound of Delain but with a fresh and modern touch.” He continues, “We're thrilled to have brand new material ready to be released! In addition to the new songs, it was fantastic to have captured some magical live moments of our European tour earlier this year as live tracks for the EP. We’re definitely very excited for this release and are really looking forward to bringing the new music to the stage!”

Dance With The Devil will be available in the following formats:

Exclusive: CHARLOTTE WESSELS On Reuniting With Former DELAIN Bandmates For New Solo Album - "They Elevated The Songs; I Feel Really Privileged To Be Working With Them"

Dutch singer-songwriter, Charlotte Wessels, who parted ways with Delain in February 2021, released her new solo album, The Obsession, on September 20 via Napalm Records. BraveWords caught up with Wessels a couple days before the release to discuss the record, which sees her reunite with former Delain bandmates Timo Somers (guitars, additional arrangements), Otto Schimmelpenninck van der Oije (bass) and Joey Marin de Boer.

In an excerpt from our interview, Charlotte discusses what it was like taking on the role of producer / director in the studio when they recorded The Obsession.

"They were very in tune with the material," says Charlotte. "I realized that because there were certain moments where I would listen to what they were doing, and the way they were working, and I actually got emotional because they elevated the songs. I was trying to say something and they helped me to communicate even better. I feel really privileged to be working with them."

BraveWords: Given that you're working with your former bandmates - and the new album's heavier than expected sound - some fans regard this new chapter your career as Delain 2.0. Does that bother you?

Charlotte: "I think the way people regard the album in the end is outside of my influence, so it doesn't really matter how I feel about it. I was in that territory, that is me, and I'm not going to do something different to avoid that comparison. I'm very proud of what I did with Delain, so there's no part of me that wants to pretend that didn't happen."

Watch for the complete interview, coming soon.

After chart-breaking success and ruling stages worldwide with Delain, Wessels takes her solo career to the next level with her first traditional full-length, full-band solo album. Having already gained a devoted following with her previous solo offerings, The Obsession is sure to impress fans and critics alike. The multifaceted record marks an exciting and touching listening experience and, together with its honest storytelling, it acts as Wessels’ most mature solo offering so far.

While still writing and producing the songs in her Six Feet Under basement home studio and sharing their first incarnations with her patrons, Charlotte Wessels now takes the songs from her new album, The Obsession, to the next level with a band of her fellow ex-Delain cohorts Timo Somers (guitars, additional arrangements), Otto Schimmelpenninck van der Oije (bass) and Joey Marin de Boer (drums) as well as Sophia Vernikov (piano/hammond), contributing to the new heavier sound. The album also features arrangements by Vikram Shankar (Silent Skies, Pain of Salvation), cello by Elianne Anemaat, was mixed by Guido Aalbers (Muse, Coldplay, The Gathering) and was mastered by Andy VanDette (Porcupine Tree, VOLA, Dream Theater).

Charlotte Wessels about the new album: "On the one hand, this album tells a very personal story – through its unintended theme of fear, obsessive thoughts and the escapes from them – and at the same time it represents the joy of finding the song's true forms with everyone involved in the making of this record. That’s why I chose The Obsession as a title. It refers to my personal challenges with OCD that inspired many of the songs - but I’ve also started referring to the band as The Obsession - because there were moments in the studio with them that truly reminded me of why I'm obsessed with making music in the first place."

Themes of fear, obsessive thoughts and escapism run rampant on the album, presenting dark and heavy on songs like “The Exorcism”, “The Crying Room” and “Ode To The West Wind” (feat. Alissa White-Gluz of Arch Enemy). In addition, there are songs that offer a more upbeat approach to the subject – like “Dopamine” (feat. Simone Simons of Epica) which deals with SSRI-induced numbness, or “Praise” – which sings the gospel of needing external validation in order to feel anything. The reimagining of fan-favorite “Soft Revolution” won’t leave a dry eye in the room, while “Soulstice” and “Serpentine” present an unprecedented dark sensuality. Each song itself functions like an exorcism, an attempt to cast out a little of the fear it deals with.

Charlotte Wessels about the guests: “I’m extremely grateful and proud to add Simone Simons and Alissa White-Gluz to the line-up of this album. They are creative powerhouses that I have so much love and respect for. Whenever we get to work together is an absolute treat and they really elevated the songs with their performances.”

The Obsession will be available in the following formats:

- Gatefold 2-Vinyl Splatter + 2 Bonustracks (“Backup Plan” + “Breathe; Extended“), D-Side Etched – ltd. to 200 copies worldwide *Napalm Records Mailorder Only*

MAMMOTH GRINDER Shares New Single “Corpse Of Divinant”

Mammoth Grinder have returned with a new EP, Undying Spectral Resonance— five tracks of pure grime and grit, a mix of snarling, punk infused old school death metal— out November 15 on Relapse.  Today, they share the album's pummeling second single "Corpse Of Divinant."

Undying Spectral Resonance strives to pick up where 2018's Cosmic Crypt left off. “I was trying to draw from the last record because I felt like I found our sound on that one," says Mammoth Grinder's founding member Chris Ulsh (Power Trip, Devil Master, and more.) Ulsh played all the instruments and performed all the vocals on Undying Spectral Resonance, which was recorded at long-time collaborator Arthur Rizk’s new home studio outside of Philadelphia.

The title Undying Spectral Resonance references a theory about supernatural energy retention. “It’s about the sinister ambience of a place where something morbid has happened, how it can be a gateway between earth and the immaterial world,” Ulsh explains.

Mammoth Grinder breathes new life into the project with a revamped lineup, which now includes Sebastian Phillips of Noisem/Exhumed on guitar and Andy Horn of Richmond rippers Loud Night on bass. Ryan Parrish of Iron Reagan is still on drums, while Ulsh has switched from bass back to guitar while of course retaining the vocal position. Undying Spectral Resonance also boasts a guest solo from Rizk, who engineered, mixed and mastered the EP.

Ahead of the EP's November 15 street date on Relapse, Mammoth Grinder will play select shows in the US and Canada, featuring a run with Nails that leads to New England Metal & Hardcore Fest. Dates below.

JACK PONTI, Former JON BON JOVI Bandmate And BON JOVI, DORO, ALICE COOPER Co-Songwriter Dead At 66

Jack Ponti, the American musician, songwriter, record producer, manager, label executive, and consultant, has passed away at 66 years of age.

Ponti began his career playing guitar in The Rest, the late 70s New Jersey band that also featured a young Jon Bon Jovi.

In the 80s and 90s, he wrote and co-wrote songs for artists including Bon Jovi ("Shot Through the Heart"), Keel ("Somebody's Waiting"), Bonfire ("Sweet Obsession", "Hard On Me"), Babylon A.D. ("The Kid Goes Wild"), Baton Rouge ("The Price of Love"), Alice Cooper ("Hey Stoopid", "Love's A Loaded Gun"), Doro ("Enough For You", "Bad Blood", "Last Day Of My Life", "Ceremony", "In Freiheit Stirbt Mein Herz"), Eric Gales Band ("Paralyzed") and more.

Ponti is credited for producing albums by Baton Rouge, Doro, Kittie, Otep, and others.

An obituary from New Jersey's Thompson Memorial Home states:

Jack Ponti (Giacomo Pontoriero), an influential American musician, songwriter, producer, and manager, passed away on October 7, 2024. While widely recognized for his musical genius, it was his boundless love for his family, generosity of spirit, and fierce loyalty that truly defined him.

Born in Newark, NJ, Jack grew up with an ear for music and a heart full of compassion. His early passion for the guitar led him into a remarkable career, where his talent and vision helped shape the sounds of iconic rock bands like Bon Jovi, Alice Cooper, Nelson, and Skid Row. Jack’s greatest pride, however, was not found in the music industry but in the love he had for his family. Jack’s family was his true legacy, and his love for them was palpable in every conversation, every meal he cooked, and every smile he shared.

He is remembered by his wife, Tatyana, his daughter, Neva, his cherished granddaughter, Jordyn, and his sister Nikki. He is predeceased by his parents, Anthony and Dorothy Pontoriero, and his many beloved dogs.

Jack had a rare ability to make people feel seen and valued, whether in the music studio or at home. His generosity extended beyond his family, as he was always ready to offer advice, lend a hand, or simply bring laughter to those around him. His warmth and wisdom will continue to resonate through the countless lives he touched, long after the music fades.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 10th from 4-7 pm at Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St, Red Bank, NJ 07701.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 11th at 10 am at St. James Church, 94 Broad St, Red Bank, NJ 07701. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Middletown, NJ.

Jack Ponti has sadly passed away at the age of 66.

LIMP BIZKIT's FRED DURST Sues UNIVERSAL MUSIC Over Unpaid Royalties

According to Billboard, LIMP BIZKIT frontman Fred Durst has filed a lawsuit against the band's record label Universal Music Group, claiming he is owed millions in unpaid royalties.

The lawsuit, which was filed in California federal court on Tuesday, accuses UMG of implementing a "systemic" and "fraudulent" policy that was "deliberately designed" to conceal royalties from artists and "keep those profits for itself." The lawsuit also seeks compensation for other artists who worked with UMG through Durst's Flawless Records.

Durst claims that he's never received any royalties from Universal throughout his career, despite the fact that the band has sold over 45 million records and its songs have accumulated more than 450 million streams on Spotify so far this year.

Durst and his bandmates are seeking $20 million in damages. However, they claim that the total amount owed to them by Universal could "easily surpass" $200 million.

According to the documents, UMG allegedly told Durst's representatives that approximately $43 million still needs to be recouped in order for Durst to get any royalties. Because of this, representatives for Durst were allegedly told that there would not be any royalties since UMG wasn't "required to provide them since his account was so far from recoupment." However, Durst's team says it found out that the band's original label, Flip Records, has earned millions from profit-sharing with Universal Music Group.

"Given the vast amounts of money collected by UMG in relation to sales of LIMP BIZKIT's and Flawless Records' albums over the years … UMG is liable to plaintiffs for tens of millions of dollars in copyright infringement, if not more," the lawsuit reads. "Indeed, Plaintiffs allege that the amounts owed to them by UMG following the rescission of these agreements will easily surpass $200 million."

UMG is being accused of rescission, violating a contract recording agreement, fraudulent concealment, breach of fiduciary duty, intentional misrepresentation, negligent misrepresentation and copyright infringement.

SLAYER Unveils 'Slaytanic Verses' Digital Museum

Thrash metal icons SLAYER pulls back the curtain on over four decades of brutal, malevolent, and inhumanly fast thrash and invites their fans to take the plunge into the abyss with the official launch of their new online museum, Slaytanic Verses.

In partnership with Definitive Authentic/Inveniem, this exclusive virtual museum offers a behind-the-scenes look at memorabilia rarely seen by the public, straight from the band's personal archives.

There's nothing quite like a SLAYER concert and for fans yearning that thrill, the museum's first collection, "Live Assaults: 1981 Through Today" will evoke memories of past concerts and provide a new perspective, by taking them backstage with items dating to the band's 1981 inception in Huntington Park, California. This collection will be constantly updated with new memorabilia and stories uncovered from the many years Slayer spent touring in front of audiences all over the world.

Slaytanic Verses is a bonified virtual journey through SLAYER's amazing 40-plus years of mayhem, and will be updated regularly with new collections and artifacts, as it explores different facets of the band's career. Fans are encouraged to check back often for an even deeper dive into the world of SLAYER.

Throughout SLAYER's history, the band has never faltered in unleashing its extreme and focused sonic assault and has remained crushing and brutal, steadfastly refusing to cater to the mainstream. SLAYER's founding member, guitarist Jeff Hanneman, passed in 2013, and EXODUS guitarist Gary Holt has been filling in for him since. Paul Bostaph, SLAYER's drummer from 1994 to 2001, rejoined bassist/vocalist Tom Araya and guitarist Kerry King in 2013 and is back behind the kit to the very last show.

In January 2018, thrash titans SLAYER devastated metalheads across the globe announcing they were calling it a day, along with a mammoth final world tour. Launched on May 10, 2018, by the time the 18-month tour wrapped on November 30, 2019, SLAYER had played 148 shows, saying goodbye to fans in 34 countries and 146 cities around the world and in 40 U.S. states. After 37 years, 12 studio releases, five Grammy nominations and two wins, an abundance of gold albums and "Best..." awards from media outlets all over the world, including Kerrang!, SPIN, Metal Hammer, Revolver, Loudwire and Esquire, SLAYER's place in music history was secure as one of the "Big Four" (alongside METALLICA, MEGADETH and ANTHRAX): they helped define the thrash-metal genre. Even among peers of that quality, SLAYER still proudly stands alone and remains one of the most influential bands in heavy metal history. With Araya's unmistakable vocals, Bostaph's hostile drums, King and Holt's slaughtering guitar riffs, and-nasty-as-f**k lyrics, SLAYER always whipped its fans into anarchistic, antichrist-fueled frenzies unmatched by any other act on the planet. All hail SLAYER.

KREATOR's MILLE PETROZZA Doesn't Believe Grunge Was Responsible For Killing Metal In Early 1990s

In a new interview with Kahler Guitar And Bass Bridges, guitarist/vocalist Miland "Mille" Petrozza of German thrash metal veterans KREATOR spoke about how he and his bandmates survived the 1990s, widely considered the decade that forced thrash to go underground or die. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "We were all terrified at the time. I mean, it's not that I thought it was over. I remember in the '90s, I tried to sell one of my Jacksons at the time. Nobody wanted to buy it. [Laughs] Everybody wanted Les Paul or Fender, like a traditional…"

He continued: "I'm so happy that the '90s are over. There's certain metal bands that always go, 'Grunge killed metal.' I don't think so. I think what killed it was maybe certain people in the industry that didn't want metal to be there anymore. And nowadays with everything being more global through the Internet though, through your own social media, you can do so much more.

"We still need some of the industry, of course, and nowadays people who are working in record companies are metalheads," Mille explained. "Back then there was mostly businessmen that didn't really know about music unless it sold a lot of copies. So nowadays it's a lot cooler because the scene created itself. There's people working in the industry that actually love the music, and you don't have to rely on people that just love whatever sells the most."

Petrozza previously spoke about grunge's impact on the metal scene in a 2013 interview with DeadRhetoric.com. He said at the time: "Some people said it was the grunge phase that killed it all, but I don't think it was only that. I think some metal bands were mistaken for the glam stuff. Like the real metal bands were labeled with the idiots that were around at the end of the '80s that made metal look bad. In my opinion, that's what they did. A lot of the glam stupidity took people off of metal. I think it has to do with the MTV era. Most of it here in America was the POISON, RATT, WHITESNAKE, then you had your one spot of SLAYER, EXODUS and KREATOR. It was mostly that and people would think, 'This is metal.' They want their glam stuff. I didn't listen to it, and I didn't want to have anything to do with it."

A couple of years ago, Mille told Metal Hammer magazine that he felt restricted by the confines of thrash during the 1990s. "We saw potential in experimenting and adding new influences," he explained. "I wouldn't say we outgrew thrash metal, but I got tired of being labelled. You've got to understand, at the time there were so many shitty thrash bands jumping on the bandwagon. It was so trendy, I was bored by it."

Regarding the challenges he and his KREATOR bandmates faced during the 1990s, Mille said: "People were thinking, was this thrash thing just a phase? I always took it seriously, I never thought of quitting, but the world around me fell apart; lots of bands split up. Grunge was coming in, being a metalhead wasn't in fashion. I saw a lot of bullshit in the '90s. MTV still had a huge influence, the industry was dictating the musical taste of the people, but some bands kept fighting."

KREATOR and TESTAMENT have joined forces for the North American leg of the "Klash Of The Titans" tour. The 33-date trek kicked off on September 12 in Reno, making its way across the U.S. and including seven Canadian dates before concluding in San Francisco on October 27. Joining the night are special guests San Francisco Bay Area death metal pioneers POSSESSED.

KREATOR is continuing to tour in support of its fifteenth studio album, "Hate Über Alles", which was released in June 2022. The follow-up to 2017's "Gods Of Violence" was recorded at Hansa Tonstudio in Berlin, Germany. Helming the sessions was Arthur Rizk, who has previously worked with CAVALERA CONSPIRACY, CODE ORANGE, POWER TRIP and SOULFLY, among others.

The "Hate Über Alles" cover artwork was created by Eliran Kantor, who has previously worked with HATEBREED, SOULFLY, TESTAMENT, ICED EARTH and SODOM, among others.

"Hate Über Alles" marked KREATOR's first album with bassist Frédéric Leclercq, who joined the group in 2019.

KREATOR played its first show with Leclercq in October 2019 in Santiago, Chile.

Before joining KREATOR, Leclercq rose to fame with U.K.-based extreme power metallers DRAGONFORCE for whom he handled bass duties from 2005 until August 2019.

TYGERS OF PAN TANG - Animal Instinct Reissue Due In November

Robb Weir, Tygers Of Pan Tang founder and keeper of the flame, was at a cross roads. He had tried to keep the Tygers alive with differing lineups, but now he was in the position of seeing his hopes dissolve completely as the band were unable to find just the right vocalist. He was determined to give it one more chance, and the band cast around for a new frontman. He knew this was possibly his last chance. Enter Jack Meille, resident of Florence and possessor of a set of pipes that could not only do justice to the Tygers back catalogue, but crucially, create the hard rock melodies essential to the band’s sound for the future.

Robb remembers Jack’s audition well. “I knew, from the moment I put my hand up to stop Jack’s audition 40 seconds in and offered him the job… I just knew he was going to be the ‘Voice’ of the Tygers.” He joined the existing lineup of Robb Weir, Craig Ellis, Dean Robertson and Brian West, and soon they were in the studio together recording what would become Animal Instinct.

Jack has strong memories of his first session recording with the band. “I was so nervous on the first day of recording in the studio. I had written quite a few melodies and lyrics but it was the first time that I had recorded away from Florence, in a studio I had never been in. Everything was so new, exciting and demanding at the same time! I remember I had the best sleep of my life as I was so exhausted after every session.”

There was always something about that original release though that bothered the band: the sleeve. It was felt that it didn’t do the band justice. Step in Andy Pilkington, responsible for the last two Tygers albums’ covers. He was asked to create a cover that would sit happily alongside the quality seen in other Tygers album sleeves. They also felt that the sound required a new mix, and called upon the services of trusted friend and producer Marco Angioni to add the necessary sheen to an already fine sounding album. A bonus track, “Don’t Say

FROST* Launch Video For New Single "Idiot Box"

UK progressive rockers, Frost*, recently announced the release of their brand new double concept album, Life In The Wires, due out on October 18 via InsideOutMusic.

“Every prog band worth their salt really should do a double album, shouldn't they?” asks Frost* frontman Jem Godfrey. “We've always kind of had this idea of wanting to do one. So I sat down last summer and thought, well, I'm just gonna have to get my head down and go for it.”

Today sees the release of the third single from the album, titled "Idiot Box", and you can watch the Christian Rios-directed video for the track below.

Jem comments of the track: “The cover of our album Day And Age was five figures standing with megaphones, blasting out their message as loud as possible. The observation was that the world loves to broadcast now, but isn’t so keen on listening. As ‘Life In The Wires’ is a continuation of Day And Age so ‘Idiot Box’ is a further exploration of that idea. At this point in the story, the Meso are burning with a quiet rage because Naio’s more interested in listening than talking. He has a different opinion and any difference of opinion must be eradicated! That’s the trouble with living in this day and age, the writing’s on the wall. Thankfully he’s got one eye skywards and is not a boy that stands still…

Christian Rios has delivered another neon dream glimpse into Naio’s world with the fantastic video that he managed to complete as Hurricane Helene was bearing down on him last week so serious kudos to him for that.”

“It’s actually a continuation from Day And Age,” explains Godfrey, “the first track on the new album starts with the end of the last track from that album 'Repeat to Fade', where the static comes up and a voice says "Can you hear me?”. I remember putting that in when we did Day And Age as a possible little hook for the future; a character somewhere out there in Day And Age land trying to be heard. What does he want to say? Can anybody hear him? Day And Age kind of sets up the world that this character lives in and 'Life In The Wires' tells his story."

The story revolves around the main character Naio, an aimless kid heading for a meaningless future in an A.I. run world. He hears an old DJ talking on the ancient AM radio his mother once gave him and decides to trace the source of the signal and find “Livewire” to see if there’s a better future out there. However, the All Seeing Eye is less than impressed at this bid for independent thought and fights back. Soon Naio finds himself pursued across the country by an outraged mob as he tries to locate the home of Livewire and his freedom. Tune in at www.lifeinthewires.com and see if you can hear Livewire on the radio.

Helping create this parallel world are the “classic” Frost* lineup of guitarist John Mitchell, bassist Nathan King, and returning drummer Craig Blundell.

Fans of the band’s masterful debut album Milliontown (2006) will enjoy the band revisiting the style that made that debut album one of the most successful prog rock albums of the last 20 years, a fact that was not lost on Godfrey as he was writing this new record.

“With Day And Age, we made it a very specific point: we're not doing any solos, we'll do clever arrangements. And we enjoyed that discipline, but this time I thought it might be good to row back on that position a bit. Plus, I wanted to have a little bit of a nod to Milliontown with this album, because it's been nearly 20 years since Milliontown came out and I’m still proud of it. The 15-minute title track has a few of those Milliontown moments in it which were great fun to do again.”

Life In The Wires will be available as a Limited 2CD, Gatefold 140g 2LP & as Digital Album, with subtle difference across the three formats for added interest. The album features artwork design by Carl Glover, who also designed the cover of ‘Day And Age’.

Pre-order here.

JAZZ SABBATH Share The 1968 Tapes Album Preview; Audio

Jazz Sabbath have shared a full album preview for their upcoming release, The 1968 Tapes. Check it out below.

Jazz Sabbath recently announced that a special MONO edition of their upcoming album, The 1968 Tapes, will be released as part of Record Store Day Black Friday, on November 29. This album contains eight new exploratory jazz arrangements based on Black Sabbath tracks from the period 1970-1975.

The trio, helmed by longtime Black Sabbath/Ozzy Osbourne keys and guitar player Adam Wakeman, will release two versions. A Coke Bottle Clear vinyl (US and Canada) and a white vinyl variant (UK only).

The RSD edition also features a bonus track, "Hole In The Sky", and a MONO bonus CD.

Tracklisting:

A1. "Into The Void"
A2. "Electric Funeral" (RSD alternative mix)
A3. "Supernaut"
A4. "Hole In The Sky" (RSD bonus track)

B1. "The Wizard" (RSD alternative mix)
B2. "Spiral Architect" (RSD alternative mix)
B3. "Warning"
B4. "War Pigs"

The regular stereo edition of The 1968 Tapes will be released worldwide on 180g LP, CD and tape on the same day.

Some would say The 1968 Tapes is Jazz Sabbath's third album on which the trio, helmed by longtime Black Sabbath/Ozzy Osbourne keys and guitar player Adam Wakeman, present seven new exploratory jazz arrangements based on Black Sabbath tracks from the period 1970-1973.

You can also choose to believe the album's liner notes:

Although never released until recently, Jazz Sabbath's music has been finding its way to millions for over 50 years. Through a vicious cycle of personal tragedy and plagiarism the songs intended to change the jazz world ended up giving birth to a much darker sound. Now a third recording from the Sixties has resurfaced, perhaps their most important one.

In 1968 Jazz Sabbath were an instant hit on the UK jazz scene. It wasn’t long until they were offered a record deal. This first recording was rejected by the label; the label manager said it was too experimental and had no hit potential. However, just like the tracks from albums that followed, these tracks were also shamelessly presented as 'original songs' by that band from Birmingham a few years later. Their lasting popularity, even in the crude way they were covered, only proves just how monumental these songs were and how record labels are often wrong.

With the truth now finally out there and that Birmingham band exposed as the musical charlatans they are, Jazz Sabbath have finally mastered the 1968 tapes to present their best work to the public.

The 1968 Tapes will be released November 29 via Blacklake Records on Vinyl, CD, Cassette and all streaming/download platforms. The track "Supernaut" is streaming on all digital platforms now. Listen below, and watch a promo video.

The album can be pre-ordered here.

STARCHASER Feat. Former TAD MOROSE Guitarist Release "Who Am I" Single And Lyric Video

Swedish melodic metal powerhouse, Starchaser, share their new single and lyric video, “Who Am I”, taken from their second studio album, Into The Great Unknown, out on November 15 via Frontiers Music Srl.

Guitarist Kenneth Jonsson comments: “I needed one last song for the album, so I started going through old riffs that hadn’t been used. I found a couple that felt right and quickly built on it. In just a few hours, the foundation of the song was done. Even though it came together fast, the music kept a spontaneity and honesty that gave the song its strength. Who Am I became an unexpected but important part of the album.”

“This song tackles themes of betrayal, broken trust, and self-discovery. The singer finds strength in facing harsh truths after being deceived by a close friend. The question, 'Who am I to believe this lie?' highlights a journey from denial to acceptance”, adds vocalist Ulrich Carlsson.

Talking about the new album, Kenneth Jonsson says: “We’re pumped to unleash Starchasers' latest album to the metal masses. Our debut ignited the scene with blazing reviews, and the fan and critic response was beyond epic. For this new record, we've delivered fiercer melodies and a more thunderous sound.”

“Kenneth and Ulrich worked in close collaboration, pushing each other to new extremes and elevating the band's performance to shredding new levels. Their combined effort has forged Kenneth’s songwriting into something truly formidable”, continues Jonsson. “Örjan, Johan, Eric and Kay also played crucial roles, contributing their talents to make this album a powerful force. A huge shoutout to Roger Bergsten for his crushing mix - his expertise has turned this second album into a face-melting experience. We’re stoked for you to crank it up and hope it hits as hard as our first.”

Starchaser is a new band formed by former Tad Morose guitarist Kenneth Jonsson, with vocalist Ulrich Carlsson (Shaggy, ex-M.ILL.ION), bassist Örjan Josefsson (Cibola Junction), drummer Johan Kulberg (Wolf, Therion, Hammerfall), and keyboardist Kay Backlund (Lions Share, Nils Patrik Johansson, Impera).

Initially, the musical journey that Kenneth undertook was supposed to be a solo album, but it turned into a brand new band after the chemistry between the players he was working with became apparent.

After leaving Tad Morose, Jonsson decided to focus on songwriting, by combining his “outside” musical influences – such as composers Phillip Glass and Max Richter - into the hard rock/metal genre he was known for.

His first choice for a singer was Ulrich Carlsson, whom he felt had the perfect mix of clean and raw tone in his voice, with a very melodic approach. Ulrich wrote all the lyrics and vocal melodies for the songs and came up with some arrangement ideas which Kenneth felt made the songs sound even better.

Kenneth later asked Örjan Josefsson to handle bass duties. As with Ulrich, Örjan contributes to the songs in a meaningful way and fits perfectly into the concept of the band.

Kenneth asked his friend Magnus Ulfstedt (ex drummer for Eclipse, Jimi Jamison, Nordic Union), to play on the Starchaser album, but it didn't work out due to conflicting schedules. Magnus kindly helped Kenneth to get in contact with Johan Koleberg, who turned out to be a perfect match.

Since Kenneth's songwriting is based on the piano, he needed a skilled keyboard player who could help him develop hi

SUNSTORM Shares "I'll Stand For You" Music Video

AOR/melodic rock quintet, Sunstorm, is excited to share the official video for "I'll Stand for You", the first single from their upcoming third album, Restless Fight, set for release on November 22 via Frontiers Music Srl.

Ronnie Romero expressed his enthusiasm for the album, by saying: “I really love the new album! I believe it keeps the Sunstorm essence with an AOR base, but brings a fresh more guitar-oriented and heavier sound. The new song 'I’ll Stand For You' is the perfect example, where the melodies are still very important. It was fantastic to work with Aldo for the first time and I believe the fans are going to like the album very much!”

Sunstorm is a project created, overseen, and directed by Serafino Perugino, President of Frontiers Records, and it was originally designed to showcase a musical style similar to singer Joe Lynn Turner’s melodic rock/AOR roots.

With the new album Restless Fight, the third to feature Ronnie Romero, Sunstorm changed its skin. The new lineup that backs Romero, comes from a heavy background.

On guitars, Aldo Lonobile, musician, songwriter and producer (Geoff Tate's Sweet Oblivion, Archon Angel feat. Zak Stevens, Ring Of Fire feat. Mark Boals), Andrea Arcangeli (from the Italian progressive metal band DGM) on bass, Alfonso Mocerino (ex-Temperance, Virtual Simmetry) on drums and Antonio Agate (one of the most talented Italian keyboard players and arranger for symphonic orchestras, featured in countless albums) on keyboards. It brings back the Sunstorm’s classic AOR/hard rock formula with a strongest dose of energy, reaching a more dynamic and bombastic approach.

Since the inception of the new album’s production, the discussion was centered on the concept to keep the roots of Sunstorm’s musical style: the AOR sound of the early records that everyone wanted, but with a special attention to the 80’s way to arrange the guitars and keys in order to reach more powerful vibrations. The aim was to give a fresh appeal to the new music so that it could be the perfect foundation for Romero, that with his powerful vocal style, once again is the perfect fit to deliver the goods for the music.

The result is Restless Fight, an album where Ronnie’s vocal acrobatics sit perfectly into Lonobile’s way to play guitars, clearly influenced by the 80’s guitar heroes such as Jake E. Lee/Steve Stevens, to name a few.

Restless Fight stands pretty tall in its own right and Sunstorm are here to stay with a lot more to say. Pre-order the album here.

"Hope’s Last Stand"
"Shot In The Dark"
