TARJA TURUNEN & TORSTEN STENZEL's OUTLANDERS Release Official Visualizer For "The Cruellest Goodbye"An official visualizer for the second single from Outlanders (Tarja Turunen and Torsten Stenzel), "The Cruellest Goodbye" featuring Al Di Meola, can be viewed below. Order/listen to the song here.
A message from Tarja states: "The song was written together with Harry Sommerdahl, co-writer of 'I Walk Alone', in 2008. Nevertheless, I didn’t quite feel that the song was having the character nor spirit for one of my rock album releases, but since I loved the song very much, I kept it always present for a later use. 'The Cruellest Goodbye' is a sad story about a forbidden love.
"Even though it was originally composed and arranged as a piano song, I always imagined it with acoustic guitars. Friday Night In San Francisco is a live album by three of the best acoustic guitar players in the world: Al Di Meola, John McLaughlin and Paco de Lucía and it was the main reference and source of inspiration for the sound I was hoping for.
"I was living in Buenos Aires, Argentina back in 2013 when I got the news that Al Di Meola was having a concert in October the 2nd at the Gran Rex Theater. I took a chance to meet him and talk about my song. I visited him at his superb concert, and we had a glass of wine at the backstage after the show was over. Al was very kind and showed immediate interest to take part in our project. It was early stages for the whole idea, so I still didn´t have many references to give him, but one: to be himself.
"It’s amazing how openminded he was about the recordings and the outcome shows you the great effort he put on to the song. He is outstanding, virtuoso musician and made the song feel like there has always been a guitar involved since the birth of it.
"Not only he played several tracks with his acoustic trademark guitar sound, but also delighted us with an additional synthetized guitar that blends totally in synch with the programmed background.
"I am so grateful for Al to trust his talent with us.
"'The Cruellest Goodbye' went through few difficulties during the production process. Torsten’s computer hard drive really crashed several times, so I ended up recording vocals for the song 4 times spread though 13 years! Anyway, every time I did, it felt refreshing and new to me, so I didn’t mind about it and definitely enjoyed the process.
"I am very happy that 'The Cruellest Goodbye' finally find its home with Outlanders.
"The Cruellest Goodbye" lyric video:
Outlanders was created by Finnish soprano legend Tarja Turunen and EDM pioneer Torsten Stenzel. Both were able to recruit some of the most influential guitar players of our time to feature as guests on their songs.
They previously released the official visualizer for, "Closer To The Sky" featuring guitarist Trevor Rabin, best known as guitarist of prog rock icons YES, as well as a top Hollywood blockbuster movies score composer.

DAVID DRAIMAN: 'I Don't Think That There Would Be A DISTURBED Without PANTERA'DISTURBED's David Draiman was one of the musicians who joined Lou Brutus of HardDrive Radio to celebrate the 30th anniversary of PANTERA's classic sophomore major label album "Vulgar Display Of Power". Speaking about the impact the LP had on his musical upbringing, Draiman said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "[PANTERA] really, I think, at that point, had honed the whole groove metal thing that they had pioneered; they had gotten it to be so, so perfect. And look, that record was songs we covered, songs we adored, songs that were the soundtrack to many a late-night bit of Sodom and Gomorrah on the bus [laughs] — all kinds of craziness. There was all kinds of moments that those songs are literally part of the soundtrack to our upbringing.
"A lot of people don't really know this, but I don't think that there would be a DISTURBED without PANTERA," he continued. "I mean, the band that was DISTURBED before me that used to be called BRAWL had a singer by the name of Erich [Awalt], and he was very much in the Phil Anselmo school. [Editor's note: A four-song demo from BRAWL can be heard below.] All the stuff that I heard when I went to audition for the DISTURBED guys originally was much, much closer to old-school PANTERA than it was modern-day DISTURBED. And I was not sure I could even complement it properly at the time; I didn't know if my voice could be as ferocious as the music seemed to call for.
"I told Phil this when I saw him — I think the last time I saw Phil was actually in Texas; he was opening up for DANZIG with SUPERJOINT, I think, at the time," Draiman added. "And I told him that. I'm, like, 'Look, dude. You know it, I know it — I learned so much from you over the course of years.' He looks at me and goes, 'I know.' [Laughs]"
Back in July 2018, DISTURBED paid tribute to late PANTERA drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott by performing a cover version of the PANTERA classic "Walk" at that year's Rock Fest in Cadott, Wisconsin. Prior to launching into the song, Draiman told the crowd: "Our very first Ozzfest, PANTERA was on the main stage. And every night — every night — somehow, I ended up finding my way backstage to the PANTERA dressing room; in fact, I think most of the band did. And they were always so welcoming — they had the warmest heart, and Vinnie especially. Don't get me wrong, I will always love Dime [late PANTERA guitarist 'Dimebag' Darrell Abbott], and everyone will always love Dime — he is one of the greatest legends to ever grace the face of the planet. But personally, I don't feel enough has been said about the incredible heart, the majesty and the unbelievable level of musicianship that just came from Vinnie Paul.
"It's funny, because as I was hanging out with them, Dime wasn't really into our stuff," Draiman continued. "He was all telling Vinnie, 'I'm not into all that jumping-up-and-down shit.' Well, we're all about the jumping-up-and-down shit here. And Vinnie said, 'No, no, no, Dime, I'm telling you, you've gotta give these guys a chance. You've gotta give them a listen to.' And by the time our second Ozzfest came around, we were lucky enough to open up the second stage in our hometown of Chicago. And Vinnie and Dime made it out to the show just to come see us. They weren't playing, PANTERA wasn't on the bill — they came to see us. And an area that could probably accommodate maybe 10 thousand people at most at that side stage was swarmed with 25 thousand people that day. And I'll never forget, after the whole experience went down, which was met with a mixture of both shock and wonder, and some regret, because it wasn't the safest situation. But Vinnie and Dime were both blown away, and Vinnie became such a dear friend and such a huge supporter. And I miss him so very, very much, and I know you guys do too."
"Vulgar Display of Power" was certified double-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in 2004, signifying shipments of more than two million units in the U.S. since its February 1992 release.
Vinnie passed away on June 22, 2018 at his home in Las Vegas at the age of 54. He died of dilated cardiomyopathy, an enlarged heart, as well as severe coronary artery disease. His death was the result of chronic weakening of the heart muscle — basically meaning his heart couldn't pump blood as well as a healthy heart.
Vinnie Paul and his brother co-founded PANTERA. When PANTERA broke up in 2003, they formed DAMAGEPLAN. On December 8, 2004, while performing with DAMAGEPLAN at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, Ohio, Dimebag was shot and killed onstage by a troubled schizophrenic who believed that the members of PANTERA were stealing his thoughts.
Up until his death, Vinnie remained on non-speaking terms with Anselmo, whom the drummer indirectly blamed for the murder of Dimebag.

SKID ROW's New Album Gets Release Date; First Single To Arrive Next MonthSKID ROW guitarist Dave "Snake" Sabo has confirmed to The Music Universe that fans will still have to wait several months for the arrival of his band's new album. The group recorded the LP in Nashville, Tennessee with producer Nick Raskulinecz, who has previously worked with FOO FIGHTERS, STONE SOUR, HALESTORM, EVANESCENCE, RUSH and ALICE IN CHAINS, among many others.
Asked if SKID ROW has a release date for the new effort, Snake said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "It looks like, as it stands now, September 16th. But we'll be coming out with new music, it looks like, around the second [or] third week of March."
Sabo also talked about the prospect of releasing a bunch of singles as opposed to focusing on full-length albums, as was the case for much of SKID ROW's three-and-a-half decade career.
"Well, I think that the way that we're doing it now we haven't done before," he said. "I think we're at a stage in our careers and our lives where we're just really open to other viewpoints. Okay, so we're working with a new label. They obviously know what works for them better than we know what works for them. And we also know what works for us. And this whole process has been about kind of getting rid of old ways of thinking and doing things and being wide open to what exists in the current market and what exists in the current state of music. And so we wanna embrace those ideas. And not everything is gonna work for the way we work, but we're definitely much more open [to it] in every facet — from the creation of music to the releasing of the music.
"We love the ritual of the process of opening vinyl or the process of getting into a CD," he continued. "Rachel [Bolan, SKID ROW bassist] and I were just talking about this last night. It's still a big part of our love of music, that process of the ritual, like I said — of having that physical product in your hand and putting it on the turntable or the CD player. And I understand that 80 percent of music is streamed these days, and that makes sense, and I embrace that as well. I mean, that's how I listen to a lot of music; that's how I discover a lot of music, be it on Spotify or YouTube or Amazon. And it's great. I'm not one of those guys that condemns those platforms at all. I think it's overcrowded and it's not as easy to discover music, maybe, as it used to be. I still harken back to the days of underground tape trading, which was great, and underground fanzines and things like that, and that was a great way to discover music. But it's different now, and I welcome it. I don't lament the past — I embrace the now — and I also still know what I love as a guy who just loves music. And they can all work — they're not exclusive of one another; it can all work together."
SKID ROW's new effort will mark its first release with South African-born, British-based vocalist ZP Theart (DRAGONFORCE, TANK, I AM I), who joined the band in 2016 following the departure of Tony Harnell (TNT, STARBREAKER).
Unlike 2014's "Rise Of The Damnation Army - United World Rebellion: Chapter Two" and 2013's "United World Rebellion: Chapter One", SKID ROW's forthcoming release will be a full-length record.
SKID ROW's new LP will be released via earMUSIC, the recorded music label of German entertainment group Edel AG which boasts a roster of global artists including DEEP PURPLE, Alice Cooper, BABYMETAL, THUNDER, STATUS QUO and many more.
SKID ROW previously collaborated with several outside songwriters on its new material, including Corey Taylor (SLIPKNOT, STONE SOUR) and Lzzy Hale and Joe Hottinger of HALESTORM, a group that covered the title track of "Slave To The Grind" on its "ReAniMate: The CoVeRs eP" in 2011. SKID ROW also worked with songwriter-for-hire Marti Frederiksen, who has previously collaborated with AEROSMITH, DEF LEPPARD, Jonny Lang and Sheryl Crow.
As previously reported, SKID ROW has replaced QUEENSRŸCHE as the support act on the rescheduled dates for SCORPIONS' "Sin City Nights" Las Vegas residency. The run of shows, which was originally slated to take place in July 2020 and was later pushed back to May 2021, will now happen in March-April, 2022 at Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino.
Last August, SKID ROW celebrated the 30th anniversary of its classic second album, "Slave To The Grind", by performing it in its entirety at The Amphitheater at Rolling Hills Casino And Resort in Corning, California. 3

DIRTY HONEY Makes A Single Take Count With New Music Video, "Another Last Time"Today, Dirty Honey releases a brand new music video, “Another Last Time”, a real-time, meticulously crafted escapade that immerses the viewer into the action from the first frame to the last, unfolding as one continuous, five-minute take. Four separate but intertwining storylines take place simultaneously at a no-frills, budget motel someplace out in the California desert - a married cop and his mistress, a cheating gambler, two girls’ shared thrill of committing robbery, and a drug-scoring addict.
With the band’s previous music videos having been primarily performance-based, Dirty Honey’s Marc LaBelle and APLUSFILMZ’ director Scott Fleishman (Dirty Honey’s “Rollin’ 7s”, “California Dreamin’”, and “The Wire” videos) wanted to do something completely different for this video. Said LaBelle, “The song’s lyrics tell the story of a toxic relationship you can’t seem to get out of, and you keep going back for more. But it’s as much a song about any addiction or compulsion, anything you just can’t kick – drugs, money, danger, whatever. Shooting the video the way we did presented a real challenge, but I think that when you take on doing something special like this and you succeed, you come out with something really great. And I think we did.”
Fleishman adds that shooting this video was no small feat. “This was an ambitious technical undertaking, especially as in this video, the camera was as much a performer as a recorder. Also, we used an anamorphic lens that captures an extremely wide viewpoint and really puts the viewer in the room. Every sequence was planned and timed out to the second and rehearsed multiple times. Everything had to be in synch, the actors’ performances, the camera movements, particularly when the camera emerged from one of the motel rooms to find Marc on the walkway singing the song’s lyrics. It took us about 12 hours to shoot this video, and we probably did a total of 40 or so takes to get it all right.”
The “Another Last Time” video features Derek Phillips - Billy Riggins from the NBC-TV series “Friday Nights Lights” - TikTok influencers Elizabeth Marochok and Emma Jade, and actress Christiana Lucas from Arnold Schwarzenegger’s “The Last Stand.”
Dirty Honey just launched the Young Guns tour, the 34-city, co-headline trek with Mammoth WVH, with both bands firmly intent on proving that rock’n’roll is very much alive and well. Upcoming tour dates and ticket purchasing information can be accessed here.

Historical fact: Karel Janoušek was a Czechoslovakian soldier who after serving in WW1 learned how to fly. When the outbreak of WW2 came and Czechoslovakia was occupied he was fighting in the resistance until he realized that he would do more good if he made it to France and continued the fight from there. He commanded the Czechoslovak Air Force in France until their surrender and then made his way to England where he organized the first Czechoslovak Air Force units in the Royal Air Force.

AENIMUS Release Visualizer For Cover Of OPETH's "Demon Of The Fall"Bay Area natives, Aenimus, offer fans the visualizer for their cover of Opth's "Demon Of The Fall". Check it out below.
Aenimus comments, "When Nuclear Blast approached us with the idea of covering a classic metal song, we honestly had a hard time deciding what song or even artist we would cover. We went back and forth for months before one of our label reps brought up the idea of paying tribute to Opeth. This idea felt immediately right with all of us. Opeth is one of Greg's favorite bands and they are one of the pioneers of progressive death metal, so it was an easy yes. We decided to go with one of their older songs, 'Demon Of The Fall' because not only is it a great song that is heavy and really fit the vibes we were going for with our follow up EP Sacrificial but we felt with today's modern production we could really transform this song into something amazing. When reimagining this track, we wanted to keep that classic Opeth feel to it but give it a more modern Aenimus sound so we focused in on adding a full orchestration behind the song and Brian even added a nice arpeggio section over one of the instrumental breaks. We are super happy how it all turned out and hope that the legends in Opeth get a chance to hear it, and maybe even dig it too."
Purchase/listen to "Demon Of The Fall" here.

SICKSENSE Featuring THE AGONIST Vocalist VICKY PSARAKIS And STUCK MOJO Frontman ROBBY J. FONTS Release New Single / Video "Kings Today"; Debut EP Due In AprilHard-hitting and melodic; pissed off and groovy; energetic and catchy: upon first listen, it is clear that Sicksense is all of these things. The band - comprised of vocalists Killer V (Vicky Psarakis) and Rob The Ripper (Robby J. Fonts), guitarist Breakdown Bran (Bran Panic), drummer The Trve Cody Taylor (Cody Taylor) and bassist Spot-On Sam/SOS (Samuel Bedard) – announce their debut 5-song EP, Kings Today, that is scheduled for release on April 22.
From the opening riffs of “Kings Today” to the closing growls of “Heart Of Stone”, Sicksense is dedicated to their mission of making fans bounce and sing their hearts out through thought-provoking lyrics, rage-fueled raps and powerful melodies, supported with low-tuned stomping nu-metal riffs and grooves. Kings Today was recorded, mixed & mastered by Christian Donaldson and the artwork for the EP was created by Aleksandra Panic.
Following the release of the video for “Make Believe”, Sicksense have released the music video for their latest single, the EP title track “Kings Today”. The song and video serve as a fun and hard-hitting introduction to the band and is an exciting taste of what can be expected from the EP. Directed by Chris Kells, who is also the bassist from The Agonist, the concept of a visual food fight was one he'd been wanting to create for some time, and 'Kings Today' turned out to be the perfect fit.
"The song is about moving forward together by having a willingness to understand others and that it’s okay to disagree and challenge ideas. At the end of the day, I believe we’re all more alike as people than we are different. The music is dark and moody and sets a serious tone, which creates a beautiful visual contrast with the food flying everywhere and us yelling at each other,” explains Killer V. “Plus, we got a cool bear sitting at the dinner table with us.”
The video for “Kings Today” can be viewed below:
Kings Today is now available for pre-order here.
Kings Today tracklisting:
"Kings Today"
"Forgotten Days"
"Make Believe"
"Soul Snatcher"
"Heart Of Stone"
"Make Believe" video:
"Make Believe" making of:
Having both performed a range of styles in numerous heavy bands, Killer V and Rob The Ripper (who are married) wanted to return to a genre that’s close to their hearts, but also make music that is specifically written for two vocalists. Written with dual vocal interplay from a male / female perspective, their performance reflects a personal and fun side of them as people, but also tackles social and societal issues in the world today. Backed by guitarist Breakdown Bran (Bran Panic), drummer The Trve Cody Taylor (Cody Taylor) and bassist Spot-On Sam/SOS (Samuel Bedard), Sicksense would be born out of the band’s desire to share their upbeat and fun message with the world. Sicksense chooses musical inspiration from various bands and those influences shine through in their debut EP, Kings Today.
Sicksense is:
Killer V – Vocals/Keys
Rob The Ripper – Vocals
Breakdown Bran – Guitars
Spot-On Sam/SOS – Bass
The Trve Cody Taylor – Drums

SAXON Releases Documentary About Making Of 'Carpe Diem' AlbumBritish heavy metal legends SAXON have released a 14-minute documentary about the making of the band's latest album, "Carpe Diem", and "the struggle and the strife that went into it." Check it out below.
Produced by Andy Sneap (JUDAS PRIEST, EXODUS, ACCEPT) at Backstage Recording Studios in Derbyshire with singer Biff Byford and Sneap mixing and mastering, "Carpe Diem" strikes the ear as one of the most essential British metal statements of the last few years and not lacking in pace or bite, an album which will ignite the joy in stalwart supporters and attract a whole new legion to the SAXON fold.
Sneap, himself a guitarist and producer of some metal repute, ensures that "Carpe Diem" does not lack one ounce of grit or sharpness. "Andy's obviously a very good guitarist," says Biff, "but he's not a blues-based guitarist like our guys are; he's more of a modern-style player. And that means the boys (Paul Quinn and Doug Scarratt) love working with him because, again, it's all about the intensity. Andy's always pushing the envelope; he doesn't let them get away with anything. They have to play it for real, full speed. He gets great sound, and we want that Gibson/Marshall '80s sound even if they’re not Gibsons and Marshalls. We try and retain that British metal guitar sound that we created for SAXON, and he's definitely an '80s child."
Despite a career which has spanned 44 years with over 15 million albums sold, including four top 10 U.K. albums, and having played to hundreds of thousands of fans worldwide, SAXON are revving up for one of their busiest eras yet.
"We're gonna be quite busy this year," says Biff. "There are festivals which have been rescheduled from two years ago, we're looking to go to America, we're also going to tour U.K. and Europe later in the year and like everyone really, we're just keeping our fingers crossed that everything works out and we can do it all. We're also recording the second 'Inspirations' album, and as we do that, you never know, we might write a few songs for the next SAXON album…"
The genesis of "Carpe Diem"'s fierce intensity lies in two extremely significant life events.
"It's been a difficult two years," offers Biff with considerable understatement, "because I had the heart attack back in September 2019, so things went a bit pear-shaped for the band. And then COVID hit two or three months later, but luckily, we started writing and recording this album before COVID. We did the drums in Germany and we did the guitars in various places. I was doing a lot of writing while I was in the hospital bed, and we spent quite a long time writing and arranging the ideas that we all had. I do think it's a very intense album, and maybe some of that intensity comes from the frustration of not being able to do anything in the COVID period."
"Carpe Diem" track listing:
01. Carpe Diem (Seize The Day)
02. Age Of Steam
03. The Pilgrimage
04. Dambusters
05. Remember The Fallen
06. Super Nova
07. Lady In Gray
08. All For One
09. Black Is The Night
10. Living On The Limit
"We want every album we make to go platinum," says Biff defiantly. "We never make an album that we don't expect to be fantastic because there are no laurels around here, and as a band, we're always trying to do something a little bit new, a little bit daring. I love fast metal like 'Princess Of The Night' and '20,000 Feet', and I try and bring that style of SAXON into the music now, but in a more modern style. We don't sound like an old band on records because we're not sitting back on our past success, we're always trying to make a great album."
Produced by Andy Sneap and Biff Byford
Album mixed and mastered by Andy Sneap
Guitars recorded by Andy Sneap at Backstage Recording Studios, Derbyshire (U.K.); vocals recorded by Seb Byford at Big Silver Barn, York (U.K.); drums recorded by Jacky Lehmann (Audiosound) at Velbyproductions, Grünenplan (Germany).

New FEAR FACTORY Singer Is Italian, Claims Ex-NIGHTRAGE Frontman ANTONY HÄMÄLÄINENFormer NIGHTRAGE singer Antony Hämäläinen, who recently unsuccessfully auditioned for the vocalist slot in FEAR FACTORY, claims that he knows the identity of the person who has been chosen to replace original FF frontman Burton C. Bell. "I know who it's gonna be," he says in a interview with Pierre Gutiérrez of Rock Talks (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET). "So I already know it's gonna be. But it's not me. So that's the thing — I know it's not me. That's the unfortunate part. I know it's not me."
Pressed about the identity of the new FEAR FACTORY singer, Antony said: "I'll say this: it's a person from Italy. And there was a girl involved [who auditioned as well, but didn't get the gig]. That rumor is true. People will know who that is. She's in a band with somebody who's a well-known producer/musician. I won't say who it is because it's not fair to do.
"But I feel — here's what I feel: the Italian person who got the job, I believe that there's better people than both of us out there, personally," he continued. "That's what I think. But I believe that there's people that were better than that, and me, that I heard. And I think maybe because they don't have the touring experience, and they're just YouTube people, maybe that's the reason why [they weren't chosen]. But there were some really good fucking people out there — better than what I did.
"Hopefully people like what I did — that's cool if they do — but there were some really good fucking choices out there. If the dude from Italy ends up being the dude, then all right; that's cool."
Hämäläinen went on to say that he was a "huge" FEAR FACTORY fan before he auditioned for the band. "So if I would have got the job, I'd go up there and fucking windmill every night. You know what I mean?" he said. "It would have been incredible. But I know I'm not the guy. And it's okay. But I wouldn't say who the dude is because I don't wanna fuck the shit up.
"People can judge from themselves," he continued. "I think there'll be people who will like that guy and not like Burton. There'll be people who like what I did and not like that guy. There's always somebody with a fucking opinion."
After Gutiérrez expressed his surprise that a female singer actually tried out for FEAR FACTORY, Antony said: "Yeah, there was a girl [that auditioned]. And this person, I've never heard them sing clean, I don't think, ever, so I don't know how that would sound; I think that would be weird. I don't know. I just know their names and the players in the game. I'm just here, and I tried my best. I know some people liked it and I know some people didn't."
Hämäläinen repeated again that he didn't want to spoil the surprise and name the Italian vocalist that supposedly landed the FEAR FACTORY gig.
"They'll announce it eventually," he said. "There's 20 million fucking Italian people on the planet. Good luck figuring out who that is."
Hämäläinen's vocal renditions of FEAR FACTORY's "Self Bias Resistor" and "Regenerate", which he recorded as part of his audition, can be streamed below.
FEAR FACTORY guitarist Dino Cazares, who has yet to publicly reveal the identity of the band's replacement for Bell, spoke about the singer change in a recent interview with El Lado Oscuro. He said: "The future is gonna be definitely very challenging for sure. Everything is — life is. Every day we wake up can be a new challenge. But it's how we take on those challenges. And for me, it's been very positive.
"I've had a lot of people around the world contact me regarding the position of singing for FEAR FACTORY, and I look forward to it," he continued. "I look forward to where this new person can take us — to a different chapter of FEAR FACTORY."
Regarding what he was looking for in Bell's replacement, Cazares said: "I don't want to get somebody who can't necessarily represent the past; I want somebody who can do that. But I also want this person to have his own identity moving forward in the future — just as when we have to step into the past that he's able to handle that as well as what we create moving forward."
FEAR FACTORY is expected to release the first song featuring the band's new lead singer later this year.
Cazares told This Day In Metal about his decision to showcase FF's new frontman with a new song: "I really want people to hear it and judge it by when they hear it. Because if I announce who it is right now, then it's gonna be, like, everybody is gonna give their opinion before they even hear anything. So I'd rather people give their opinion of when they hear it than before they hear it."
Asked about his previous comment that he was open to hiring a female vocalist for FEAR FACTORY, Dino told Bucketlist TV: "That was true. I auditioned a few women, yes. But it didn't work out — not because they were female or anything like that. Because I wanted to pick whoever was best for the position, and it turned out to be a guy."
Dino also addressed his statement from earlier this year that he wanted to give an "unknown guy a shot" at fronting FEAR FACTORY. He said: "Well, it wasn't like I was only looking for somebody that nobody knew. I was looking for all different [types of singers]. Sure, if the guy turned out to be, or the girl turned out to be, someone that nobody knew and I gave 'em that shot, yeah, great. I was open to all of it, is what I'm saying. Male, female, whatever, known, unknown — I was open to all of that."
In September 2020, Bell issued a statement officially announcing his departure from FEAR FACTORY, saying that he "cannot align" himself with someone whom he does not trust or respect.
Bell's exit from FEAR FACTORY came more than two weeks after Cazares launched a GoFundMe campaign to assist him with the production costs associated with the release of FEAR FACTORY's new LP.
Bell later told Kerrang! magazine that his split with FEAR FACTORY was a long time coming. "It's been on my mind for a while," he said. "These lawsuits [over the rights to the FEAR FACTORY name] just drained me. The egos. The greed. Not just from bandmembers, but from the attorneys involved. I just lost my love for it.
"With FEAR FACTORY, it's just constantly been, like, 'What?!' You can only take so much. I felt like 30 years was a good run. Those albums I've done with FEAR FACTORY will always be out there. I'll always be part of that. I just felt like it was time to move forward."
In October 2020, Dino issued a statement in which he said that the door for Burton to come back to FEAR FACTORY wouldn't "stay open forever." The guitarist also revealed that Burton "lost his legal rights" to the FEAR FACTORY name "after a long court battle" with drummer Raymond Herrera and bassist Christian Olde Wolbers. "I had the opportunity to do something right, and I felt that obtaining the name in full was the right thing to do for the both of us, so after nearly four years we can continue as FEAR FACTORY, to make more records and to tour," he said. "That is why it is sad to hear that he decided to quit and, in my opinion, for whatever issues he has it seems like it could've been worked out."
FEAR FACTORY's latest album, "Aggression Continuum", was released in June 2021 via Nuclear Blast Records. The LP, which was recorded primarily in 2017, features Cazares and Bell alongside drummer Mike Heller. 1

ALICE COOPER Is Putting 'Final Touches' On New Album, Says Bassist CHUCK GARRICALICE COOPER bassist Chuck Garric has confirmed to Metal Rules that the legendary rocker's upcoming follow-up to last year's "Detroit Stories" album will feature Alice's entire current touring band consisting of Garric, guitarists Nita Strauss, Tommy Henriksen and Ryan Roxie, and drummer Glen Sobel.
"[Cooper's longtime producer] Bob Ezrin and Alice approached us and said they wanted to do a band album, so we all started filing in songs and ideas from each member," Chuck said. "Bob also got some other outside members to write songs. We collectively got in a room like anything and started making it come to life. We have tracked everything for the most part and just doing some final touches. We are still a bit away from it being complete, but it's pretty cool."
Asked how many songs he contributed to, Chuck said: "I think there are two that I contributed on and there is co-writing on other guys' songs as well."
Earlier this month, Nita told Toronto's 94.9 The Rock radio station about what it has been like to work with Ezrin on Alice's new LP: "Bob definitely has his own style of working, his own personality, and as long as you understand that and that rapport, I think Bob is an amazing, amazing person. He's an amazing person to work with regardless, but I definitely think you have to understand his production style and his critique style and understand where he's going with everything in his specific vision. We had a great time making the record."
According to Nita, Bob gave her and her bandmates plenty of room to showcase their own styles during the recording process. "Who are any of us to tell Bob Ezrin how to make an Alice Cooper record?" she said. "He has a vision, he has it how he wants it, and it was our job to come in and execute it. And I think we did that to the very best of our ability and absolutely retained our personalities and our own style. He gave us a ton of freedom to express ourselves. He gave us a lot of notes, of course. I think Alice wanted us to make a record that sounds like his band, sounds like the live band, and I was really grateful that Bob and Alice gave us the opportunity to do exactly that."
Last month, Alice revealed during an appearance on an episode of SiriusXM's "Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk" that he is working on two albums right now. "All I can say is that one is written — totally written — and we'll be doing bed tracks for that one pretty soon," he said. "And then the other one is just a touch in the future, but that's being written right now too. They're two entirely different kinds of albums, but they're Alice Cooper pure rock and roll albums. The two albums will really be hard rock albums."
Also last month, Nita told Detroit's WRIF radio station that she and her Cooper bandmates "recorded quite a bit of music" for his upcoming album. "The band did also have a huge part in the writing this time, which is the first time that's happened in the eight years that I've been in the band," she said. "So it was really, really fun — really exciting for us to get to work with a legend like Bob Ezrin. [It was] a huge, huge honor to be in the studio with him and Alice creating what we hope will be some more Alice Cooper music to just add to his legacy."
She added: "I'm on the [Alice Cooper] live DVD. I'm on the live album releases, the live tracks that are bonus tracks and stuff, but [this is my] first studio album with Alice. I'm actually the only person in the [current lineup of Alice's] band that hasn't recorded anything with Alice before, so this is huge for me. [I'm] very, very honored."
Released in February 2021, "Detroit Stories" was recorded with Ezrin, mostly in Royal Oak with Detroit musicians and featuring a mix of original material alongside covers of songs by Bob Seger, the MC5, Mitch Ryder's DETROIT and OUTRAGEOUS CHERRY.
In 2018, Cooper issued "A Paranormal Evening At The Olympia Paris", a recording of his December 7, 2017 concert at the world-renowned Olympia venue in France. The effort captured Cooper and his current bandmates performing a choice selection of classic Cooper hits, in addition to some highlights from 2017's "Paranormal" album. Alice later said that he wanted to release a document of his band's onstage prowess because they "deserved a live alb

Watch: BRUCE DICKINSON Explains Why IRON MAIDEN Uses UFO's 'Doctor Doctor' As Its Entrance Music At Every ConcertDuring the question-and-answer portion of his February 11 spoken-word show at The Vic Theatre in Chicago, Illinois, Bruce Dickinson was asked why IRON MAIDEN always uses UFO's "Doctor Doctor" as its "entrance music" at is concerts. He responded: "It has the added advantage that everybody knows we play 'Doctor Doctor' before we go on stage. So, before the intro tape, there's five minutes of 'Doctor Doctor'. It's brilliant, so people go, 'Oh, quick.' Stop having a piss, drink the last pint, get to your seats. 'Doctor Doctor' is playing. They'll be on in a minute. And for the road crew, it's also brilliant. It's, like, 'Stop masturbating in the toilet. Wipe your ass.'"
Last year, MAIDEN bassist Steve Harris named "Love To Love", from UFO's 1979 album "Strangers In The Night", as one of the eight songs that changed his life. He explained to Metal Hammer magazine: "UFO have loads of great songs, and loads of great albums, but this version in particular, on 'Strangers In The Night', really struck a nerve with me. It's the light and shade and the dynamic build-up which does it for me.
"I used to listen to 'Strangers In The Night' when I was driving the kids to school in the morning and it gets you fired up for the day.
"UFO always had fantastic guitar players — Michael Schenker and Paul Chapman were brilliant — and Phil Mogg is a great singer.
"MAIDEN played two gigs supporting UFO in 1981, in Long Beach and San Bernardino in California, and we'd have loved to have them out with us, but for some reason it never happened."
Dickinson's two-month North American spoken-word tour kicked off on January 17 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and will run through the end of March.
Bruce's spoken-word show is split into two parts. The first section sees him take a humorous and often satirical look at the world from his own very personal perspective, treating the audience to private insights into his drive and ambition, peppered with plenty of MAIDEN anecdotes, and a myriad of other experiences encompassing not just the giddy heights but also the extreme lows, as told first-hand in his inimitable anarchic style, punctuated with photographs, videos and sometimes even erupting into song a cappella, to illustrate a point. The final section of the evening is devoted entirely to the aforementioned question-and-answer session, with the opportunity to pose questions on any subject whatsoever. As Bruce's answers are all completely improvised — the more left-field and quirky the question, the more interesting and compelling the response is likely to be.
Dickinson is considered one of the world's most storied musicians. Aside from decades spent delivering high-octane performances with his larger-than-life persona in IRON MAIDEN, Bruce has lived an extraordinary off-stage existence too. A true polymath, his accomplishments include: pilot and airline captain, aviation entrepreneur, beer brewer, motivational speaker, film scriptwriter, twice-published novelist and Sunday Times best-selling author, radio presenter, TV actor, sports commentator and international fencer — to name but a few.
Dickinson, who had a golf gall-size tumor on his tongue and another in the lymph node on the right side of his neck, got the all-clear in May 2015 after radiation and nine weeks of chemotherapy.
Bruce will hit the road with IRON MAIDEN for a new North American leg of the band's "Legacy Of The Beast" tour in September. 8

MEGADETH Bassist JAMES LOMENZO And Ex-LAMB OF GOD Drummer CHRIS ADLER Join MYRONE On 'Track Day' SingleSoft-shred pioneer and rising guitar god Myrone has released his latest single and video, "Track Day", featuring the inimitable Chris Adler (drums, ex-LAMB OF GOD, MEGADETH) and James LoMenzo (bass, MEGADETH). A follow-up to his recent single "Soft Shred", this new track will appear on his upcoming album, due for release next month.
Boasting a ubiquitous playing style rooted in caustic but soulful riffs and technical fireworks, Myrone has made a name for himself as solo artist, studio musician (recent credits include the Netflix original "Cobra Kai" soundtrack) and member of international metal supergroup FIRSTBORNE, also featuring Adler and LoMenzo.
"Track Day" is filled with serpentine riffs, a profound melodic sensibility and more than a dash of 1980s nostalgia, serving as a perfect focus track for Myrone's album. Adler contributes a blistering percussion performance, with LoMenzo holding down the low end with a pulsating groove.
Myrone's singular playing style is equal parts technically impressive and approachable; his acrobatics on the fretboard don't distract from his dynamic songwriting ability.
The official "Track Day" music video is a fun, frenetic narrative that perfectly complements the song while highlighting the drift car community that has embraced Myrone's music.
Myrone has this to say about the impetus behind his latest track: "After I released 'Guitar Magic' in 2019, I quit making Myrone music. I was burnt out and felt like I had exhausted all the creative possibilities for this project. It was only after a bunch of people in the grassroots drifting community started following me and inviting me out to track day events that I felt inspired to create again.
"As soon as I finished the demo, I knew I had something extremely special and that I needed Chris Adler and James LoMenzo to play on it with me to give it that extra intensity.
"'Track Day' is my thank you note to all of the car-avatar people who have selflessly championed my music, and graciously taken me out in their S13s, Z's, and M3's and thrashed me around until I was car sick."
Myrone has partnered with Schecter Guitars for a special playthrough video of "Track Day" featuring their new E1 FR S model.
A special limited-edition merch drop accompanies the release. Artwork for the single was created by renowned tattoo artist and designer Dan Bones.
Expect more music from Myrone and FIRSTBORNE throughout the year.
Myrone has been a presence in the Los Angeles scene for the last six years. He has independently released seven albums and two EPs of instrumental guitar music and racked up millions of Spotify streams. In addition to his own recordings, he has collaborated with Rivers Cuomo (WEEZER), SZA, Little Boots, Michael Christmas and Deaton Chris Anthony, among many others.

DEEP PURPLE's IAN PAICE Pays Tribute To PROCOL HARUM's GARY BROOKER: He Was 'One Of The Giants Of English Rock Music'DEEP PURPLE's Ian Paice has paid tribute to PROCOL HARUM frontman Gary Brooker who died a week ago at the age of 76. He passed away at his home on Saturday, February 19 after a battle with cancer.
Earlier today, Paice uploaded a five-minute video message to his official YouTube channel in which he reflected on his friendship with Brooker and praised the late musician as "one of the giants of English rock music."
Ian said in part (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "A couple of days ago, we lost one of the giants of English rock music, a good pal of mine, Gary Brooker. A totally unique voice, totally recognizable as soon as you heard it. A wonderful, different style of music that he helped create with his band PROCOL HARUM a long time ago. But when you hear those records today, they are so wonderfully perfect and so different.
"I had the great pleasure of being onstage with Gary just before the pandemic hit in 2020. He'd arranged an amazingly big benefit show at the O2 Arena — sold out, sixteen thousand-something people. Well, why wouldn't it be? He got some of his best friends to come and do it: Eric Clapton, Tom Jones, Van Morrison, Bonnie Tyler, Paul Young… It just went on and on and on. And I had the privilege of playing in the house band behind all these great artists. And in that one night, he raised over a million pounds for The [Royal] Marsden Hospital. That's something.
"And now he's gone. And apart from the recordings, I'll never get to say hi to him again; I'll never hear that wonderful voice live again. And that really is something to be missed.
"Gary — what an artist and what a nice man."
Brooker's death was announced in a statement on PROCOL HARUM's official web site. The statement read: "With the deepest regret we must announce the death on February 19 2022 of Gary Brooker MBE, singer, pianist and composer of PROCOL HARUM, and a brightly-shining, irreplaceable light in the music industry."
In addition to his work with PROCOL HARUM, Brooker released four solo albums and wrote and sang for Eric Clapton's band and with BILL WYMAN’S RHYTHM KINGS. He also toured with Ringo Starr's band RINGO'S ALL-STARRS.
Nearly two decades ago, Brooker was made an MBE — member of the Order of the British Empire — by Queen Elizabeth II for services to charity.

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS Drummer Says Making 'Perdida' Album Was An 'Amazing And 'Cathartic Process'STONE TEMPLE PILOTS drummer Eric Kretz spoke to Australia's "Everblack" podcast about "Perdida", the group's first-ever acoustic album, which came out in February 2020. Asked if the follow-up effort will see him and his bandmates returning to the heavier sounds of STP's earlier releases, the 55-year-old musician said: "On every STP record, we've always had one or maybe two songs that had that kind of vibe to it — where it was just softer and kind of acoustic based. And I think it was, like, 'Let's just do a whole album like that — have some fun and do something different.' And it was an amazing and it was a cathartic process to record it because it was a whole different thing… It was really trying to do more with less and trying to make the space be just as important as the notes that you're hearing. And yeah, we were just about to tour it when COVID hit. It was, like, 'Oh-oh. Here we go.'
"The next record, who knows?" he continued. "It could be the hardest or the loudest record we've ever done, or it could be a mix of the two. I don't know. I'm sure after we get back from [touring] Australia [at the end of March], everyone's gonna be itching and saying, 'All right, let's go. Let's go make another record again' in between the shows we have lining up this year here in the States. But no, that was kind of just a one-time thing to see where we're going, but at the same time, we all really enjoyed a lot of the aspects of it. So maybe you'll hear more of a blend of it. I always how LED ZEPPELIN could mix in — kind of the mixtures of stuff like that and have mandolins in songs right next to 'Black Dog' and other fantastically, amazingly good rock songs. It's all possible, and it's all coming from us, and it's all music. So we just try to make it all work."
In November, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS scrapped the remaining shows on their tour — including an appearance at the Welcome To Rockville festival in Daytona Beach, Florida — after a "member" of the band's "organization" tested positive for COVID-19.
STONE TEMPLE PILOTS features three original members — Robert DeLeo, guitarist Dean DeLeo and Kretz.
Singer Jeff Gutt, a 45-year-old Michigan native who spent time in the early-2000s nu-metal act DRY CELL, among other bands, and was a contestant on "The X Factor", joined STONE TEMPLE PILOTS after beating out roughly 15,000 hopefuls during an extended search that began more than a year earlier.
Original STONE TEMPLE PILOTS singer Scott Weiland, who reunited with the group in 2010 after an eight-year hiatus but was dismissed in 2013, died in December 2015 of a drug overdose.
Chester Bennington, who joined STP in early 2013, departed nearly three years later to spend more time with his main band LINKIN PARK. Bennington committed suicide in July 2017.
"Perdida" was Gutt's second LP with STP. His recording debut with the group was on its self-titled seventh album, which arrived in March 2018.

TED NUGENT Says Another DAMN YANKEES Album "Is Not Off The Table - It’s Just A Matter Of Logistics"Burley Auction recently annunced The Ted Nugent Guns, Guitars & Hot Rod Cars Auction, which is taking place this Saturday, March 27th at 10 AM at Tucker Hall in Waco, Texas. BraveWords caught up with Uncle Ted last week for a major feature you'll see in its entirety and hear on Streaming For Vengeance tommorow (March 26th) at 3:33PM EST. We were able to sneak in a few musical questions including where the supergroup the Damn Yankees stands. The band released two successful albums; 1990's Damn Yankees and 1992's Don't Tread.
“What a great band," Nugent exclaims! "What a great bunch of guys, what a bunch of soulful bastards. I just love original American rhythm and blues rock n’ roll, and we incorporate it in every song, every song-writing, every performance. I have nothing but incredible respect for Tommy (Shaw) and Jack (Blades) and Michael (Cartellone). Of course, Tommy’s been so busy since the Damn Yankees last tour in ‘93. In those five years we sold five million records, created some incredible songs, performed unbelievable concerts. Those guys are so soulful. Right after Damn Yankees Tommy was horny to get out there and play those masterpiece songs, Jack Blades couldn’t wait to do the Night Ranger thing, I couldn’t wait to go out and play my masterpieces, and Michael Cartellone shortly thereafter became the drummer that really kicked Lynyrd Skynyrd up the ass, and he was on tour with them for the last 30 years. So everybody is busy as hell. But I’ve always said, I’ve got a lot of piss and vinegar and I keep in touch with Jack and Mike and Tommy, and it’s unlikely that we’ll get together and do another Damn Yankees delivery, but it’s not impossible. We all want to, it’s just a matter of logistics. It’s hard to get in the same room together with all their pursuits and my pursuits, and prioritization - our expanding families, our love of quality family time - but it’s not off the table. I guarantee you this, if we got in the same room together you couldn’t inhale and exhale before we came up with a killer piece of soulful music. These guys, they literally live, eat, breathe, and shit fiery music. It happens instantly, spontaneously, and it’s like a primal scream every time we plug in. Within seconds a groove starts and Tommy and Jack unleash their unbelievable soulful vocals and I just unleash the beast, and Michael grinds it like he’s auditioning for James Brown. It has a life of its own but it’s a matter of the very difficult logistics of getting in the same place at the same time. I can pray for it, and I would like you to join me in praying for it.”
Watch for the entire conversation to be unleashed tommorrow (March 26th) at BraveWords and 3:33 PM EST on Streaming For Vengeance. You can watch/listen Streaming For Vengeance on our Facebook page or our YouTube channel. For more information about Streaming For Vengeance, visit this location.

Watch: JOURNEY Performs In Philadelphia During 'Freedom' 2022 U.S. TourJOURNEY played the second show of its U.S. "Freedom" tour with TOTO last night (Wednesday, February 23) at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Fan-filmed video footage of the concert can be seen below.
JOURNEY's current touring lineup features bassist Todd Jensen, a veteran musician who has played for various artists, including the bands SEQUEL, HARDLINE and HARLOW, as well as David Lee Roth, Ozzy Osbourne, Steve Perry, Alice Cooper and Paul Rodgers. Also part of JOURNEY's current incarnation is returning drummer Deen Castronovo, who shared the drum duties in the band last year with Narada Michael Walden. Walden, bassist Randy Jackson and keyboardist/backing singer Jason Derlatka all joined JOURNEY in 2020 following the band's acrimonious split with drummer Steve Smith and bassist Ross Valory. Jackson — who previously played with JOURNEY during the mid-1980s — was forced to miss all the recent gigs because he is reportedly recovering from back surgery. Prior to JOURNEY's recent Las Vegas residency, Jackson had been replaced at the band's 2021 shows by Marco Mendoza, who had played several shows in 2019 with Castronovo and JOURNEY guitarist Neal Schon under the "Neal Schon's Journey Through Time" banner.
JOURNEY has set "Freedom" as the title of its long-awaited new album, to be released later in the year. The LP will include the single "The Way We Used To Be", which came out last June. The song was the multi-platinum band's first new music since 2011's album "Eclipse", and the first track released by the band's revamped lineup. "The Way We Used To Be" marked Walden and Derlatka's first studio recordings with the band, and Jackson's first since 1986's "Raised On Radio". The song was produced by Walden at his Tarpan Studios, with co-production by Schon and keyboardist Jonathan Cain.
Since the group's formation in 1973, JOURNEY has earned 19 top 40 singles, 25 gold and platinum albums, and has sold nearly 100 million albums globally. Their "Greatest Hits" album is certified 15 times-platinum, making JOURNEY one of the few bands to ever have been diamond-certified, and their song "Don't Stop Believin'" has been streamed over one billion times alone.
JOURNEY was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2017, and 2018's co-headlining tour with DEF LEPPARD was the band's most successful tour to date, landing them in the Top 10 year-end touring chart with more than 1 million tickets sold, and earning them the prestigious Billboard "Legends Of Live" touring award. March 2019 saw the release of "Escape & Frontiers Live In Japan", a live DVD/CD set from their concert at the Budokan in Tokyo featuring the band's first-ever performances of the albums "Escape" and "Frontiers" in their entirety. JOURNEY has also received a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame and were inducted into the Hollywood Bowl Hall Of Fame. Additionally, the band is the subject of the award-winning documentary "Don't Stop Believin': Everyman's Journey" about the band's resurgence upon adding Arnel Pineda as lead singer after founding member Neal Schon discovered the Philippines native on YouTube.

TOOL's MAYNARD JAMES KEENAN Says He Is 'Never Satisfied' With His Live Performances: 'I Think I Can Do It Better'In a new interview with Rob Rush, Maynard James Keenan was asked why he thinks his various bands and projects — a list that includes TOOL, A PERFECT CIRCLE and PUSCIFER — have all managed to draw audiences worthy of arenas and theaters. He responded (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "Well, they're not gonna support it if they show up and it's boring; they're not gonna come back. You have to have follow-through. You have to have a thoughtful presentation.
"People wanna be entertained; they wanna be moved in some way," he explained. "And I think in order to do that, depending on your agenda, people like me, I just need to do a thing and I need to do it well. And I'm never satisfied with how I did it; I think I can do it better. So if you get in that mindset — you're always trying to improve on the thing you did, even if it was the night before and you've done this thing ten thousand times, there's always room for improvement and adjustment. So I think that's what people have come to expect, is that they know that we are thoughtful and we're always thinking about fixing, correcting and making better."
Actor, performer, musician, entrepreneur, winemaker, athlete, writer and curious adventurer, Maynard is the embodiment of the archetypal artist. Best known as the vocalist in TOOL, A PERFECT CIRCLE and PUSCIFER, he has trusted the path he's followed and heeded his inner voice, ever open to synchronicities and unexpected turnings along the way.
In addition to his musical output, Keenan was able to launch a second career as a winemaker with Caduceus Cellars and Merkin Vineyards from his home in the hillside town of Jerome, Arizona, where he has lived since the mid-1990s.
PUSCIFER's "Existential Reckoning" tour will kick off June 9 at The Smith Center in Las Vegas. Joining Keenan at the shows will be longtime PUSCIFER members Mat Mitchell and Carina Round. The trek will include the group's largest scale performances to date, with shows slated for Los Angeles's venerable Greek Theatre (site of Keenan's one-time-only Cinquanta mini festival), Brooklyn's movie palace-turned-concert-hall Kings Theater and the state-of-the-art Mission Ballroom in Denver.
The tour in support of PUSCIFER's highly regarded 2020 album "Existential Reckoning" will mark the band's first U.S. dates since 2016.
PUSCIFER was unable to play live shows to promote "Existential Reckoning" at the time of its release due to the ongoing global pandemic. But the band did manage to livestream performance of the album in October 2020, a show which was made available as on-demand/VOD version and an accompanying soundtrack in November 2021, with physical versions of the soundtrack and film (vinyl and VHS) available via retailers on February 25.

MIKKEY DEE To Lead MOTÖRHEAD Tribute Concert In Sweden This JulyOn July 23, Mikkey Dee will take part in a special "tribute to MOTÖRHEAD" concert at Mellby Horsepower in Laholm, Sweden. This "unique" gig will feature the former MOTÖRHEAD and current SCORPIONS drummer and as-yet-undisclosed "friends" performing MOTÖRHEAD classics.
For more information, click here.
In a 2021 interview with the "Waste Some Time With Jason Green" video podcast, Mikkey said that MOTÖRHEAD frontman Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister refused to quit touring in the weeks leading up to his death, even when his health was clearly deteriorating.
"We played the last show the 11th of December [of 2015] in Berlin, and he passed just [two] weeks later," Mikkey recalled (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET). "And that tells you, the guy died with his boots on. And both me and Phil [Campbell, MOTÖRHEAD guitarist] were trying to talk him out of starting the second part of the European tour after Christmas. But there was no way in hell we could do that. And I said to Phil, 'Look, instead of arguing with Lemmy or pushing him not to do this,' because we said maybe we should break for a couple of months for him to catch his wind, basically. I said, 'Let's not push him anyway. Let him decide what he wants to do. He knows best what he wants to do.' And he wanted to be on stage. So we said, 'Let's just support him instead,' and that's what we did. But we never made it to the second leg of that European tour, unfortunately. It was the U.K. that was on the next part of it, I remember that."
Asked if he knew when he came home to Sweden that it would probably be the end for Lemmy, Mikkey said: "No. Not at all. Because I talked to Lemmy after that show in Berlin. We were all gonna go separate ways, obviously. I was gonna just fly out to Sweden, and Phil went back home to Wales. Lemmy was flying back to L.A., but I believe he was gonna fly to London and stay one night or two or so and say hi to friends and then fly back home. And I spoke to him right after the show. I went down to Lemmy's dressing room, and I said, 'All right. Go back to L.A. and figure out, maybe, another two songs from [MOTÖRHEAD's final album] 'Bad Magic' that you think that we should do. And we take out the two songs that we already played on this leg, and we put in two new songs from the record.' And he said, 'Yeah. All right. I'll check that out.' And I said, 'Let's hook up after Christmas.' Because it was the 11th of December at that time, and I figured we'd talk between Christmas and New Year's Eve and decide which two songs that we agreed on on playing on that next leg. And he said, 'Yeah, I'll go back and work on that.' And that was it. He had no intention of not coming back to Europe and touring. So we did a little finger hook, as we always did, and that was the last time I saw him, actually. Very sad."
Dee went on to say that Lemmy had made some changes in his life to improve his health after dealing with several issues over the last few years of his life, including heart trouble. "But my personal belief is that it was maybe a little too late," he said. "He should have maybe changed a little earlier. But knowing Lemmy, he was not for that. He was doing it his way or the highway, basically. And that made him to what he was. He never compromised with his music, he never compromised with friendship, he never compromised with what way he was gonna go for anyone else in that way, which is why MOTÖRHEAD was MOTÖRHEAD, and still is MOTÖRHEAD. But with that said, of course, the three of us were talking a lot about stuff, and it was not like he was some kind of a boss here. But we all worked so good together, and that's what created the magic, I would say."
Lemmy died on December 28, 2015 at the age of 70 shortly after learning he had been diagnosed with cancer.
MOTÖRHEAD had to cancel a number of shows in 2015 because of Lemmy's poor health, although the band did manage to complete the aforementioned European tour a couple of weeks before his death.
In June 2020, it was announced that Lemmy would get the biopic treatment. The upcoming film, "Lemmy", is being directed by Greg Olliver, who previously helmed the 2010 documentary of the same name, "Lemmy".
The "Lemmy" biopic will follow Kilmister's life growing up in Stoke-on-Trent, becoming a roadie for Jimi Hendrix and a member of seminal psychedelic rock band HAWKWIND before forming MOTÖRHEAD.
A custom-made urn containing Lemmy's ashes is on permanent display in a columbarium at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Hollywood, Califor

SANHEDRIN's Lights On Album Unboxed; VideoNew York's Sanhedrin has released an unboxing video for their upcoming Metal Blade Records album, Lights On, set for worldwide release on March 4. Watch below:
The Brooklyn power trio do metal the old school way, channeling the greats that preceded them to create something that is instantly familiar, yet with a new, modern energy to it. On this particular track, vocalist / bassist Erica Stoltz explains, "The pandemic put the unbridled excess of humanity on hold. The reference was a play on the term 'correction' as used in economics. The comparison is between the slow roll of global death by virus and other man-made instantaneous destructors like atomic bombs."
Rounded out by Jeremy Sosville on guitars, and drummer Nathan Honor, the band states, "In a time where the world around you feels like it's aflame, when our heavy metal heroes are beginning to disappear to failing health or changing social norms, we, Sanhedrin, stand here as a shining light through the dark. We are prepared to fly the flag of heavy metal in these trying and uncertain times and have only begun to show the world what we are capable of."
Lights On can be pre-ordered in the following formats at this location.
- jewelcase-CD
- 180g black vinyl (EU exclusive)
- pale blue grey marbled vinyl (EU exclusive - limited to 300 copies)
- clear ochre brown marbled vinyl (EU exclusive - limited to 300 copies)
- orange red brown marbled vinyl (EU exclusive - limited to 200 copies)

"Lost At Sea"
"Change Takes Forever"

MISFIRE - Chicago Old-School Thrash Trio Release "Red Flag" Music VideoChicago-based thrash trio, Misfire, have unleashed their latest video and single, "Red Flag". The track comes off the band’s pulverizing Sympathy For The Ignorant debut full-length, set for release on April 1 on their new label home of MNRK Heavy.
Conjuring old-school flavoured thrash metal devastation with the kind of bombastic firepower that could wake the dead, Misfire creates more of a racket than bands twice their size, unleashing song after song of unrelenting fury. It’s music that could have arrived in the thrash golden age of 1986, when bands like Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Dark Angel, and Sodom delivered vital records. And yet Misfire is forward-thinking, injecting modern metal mastery into their brew for a powerful, timeless sound.
Comments the band of "Red Flag", “This song is the result of a series of incredibly challenging situations we have been in throughout our lives. This was one of the first songs written for Misfire and we are stoked to share it with you all! Raise your red flag!"
Created in a small studio and engineered by vocalist/bassist, Sean Coogan, M Misfire’s Sympathy For The Ignorant is free from click-tracks and other unnecessary frills, projecting the purity of what three musicians raised on Pantera and the Big 4 sound like in a room together. The record is heavy, brawny, and confident, filled with the kind of earworm thrash metal riffs that sends aspiring players to the guitar store.
“The album is a sonically badass version of what you’ll hear live. It’s real, no fake shit,” notes drummer James Nicademus. “It’s very much a throwback to the way things used to be recorded. Like, just turn the shit on, press record, layer some stuff in after that, put some words on top of it, mix it, and it’s done.”
Armed with the attitude and songs to follow in the footsteps of Slayer, Metallica, and Lamb Of God, the three men of Misfire are heavy metal lifers. “I started playing drums when I was eleven, and ever since, it’s all I talk about,” says Nicademus. “[Vocalist/guitarist] Jay [Johnson] and I started jamming together at ages twelve and thirteen.”
In just a short couple of years, Misfire quickly shared the stage with thrash legends Sacred Reich and modern throwback bands like Iron Reagan and Warbringer. As long-running tastemakers Metal Crypt wrote in a review of Sympathy For The Ignorant, “these fellows are ready for the big leagues.”
“Whatever happens, we’re going to be here for a long time because we can’t live without doing this shit,” Nicademus declares. “All we want is to make records, tour, and have a good time doing it.” Misfire is poised to give the world a much-needed dose of Windy City whiplash. Get ready.
Sympathy For The Ignorant will be available on CD, LP, cassette, and digital formats. Find pre-orders here.
Sympathy For The Ignorant tracklisting:
"Fractured"
"Red Flag"
"War Of Mine"
"Skin Of Mirrors"
"Death Trap"
"No Offense "
"R.I.P."
"He Said, She Said"
"L.Y.S. "
"Sympathy For The Ignorant"

Misfire lineup:

CANNIBAL CORPSE Drummer Says 'It's A Complete Compliment' Being Called The 'MOTÖRHEAD Of Death Metal'In a new interview with the "Metal Mayhem" podcast, CANNIBAL CORPSE drummer and founding member Paul Mazurkiewicz was asked if he takes it as a compliment when his band is referred to as the "MOTÖRHEAD of death metal," as was the case in a recent review in the U.K. magazine Kerrang! He responded (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "I totally take it as a compliment. Because you get what you get; when you're gonna listen to CANNIBAL CORPSE, you're gonna buy a new record, you know what you're getting. There's gonna be no second guessing; there's gonna be no, 'Oh, I wonder what they're gonna… Is it gonna sound like this?' Because so many bands have done that in the past.
"We're being ourselves," he continued. "We're not being anybody else. We're playing CANNIBAL CORPSE music for ourselves and we're staying true to ourselves. And I know the fans, of course, over the years, have come to understand that and to rely on us, to know what they're gonna get. They don't have to worry that, 'Oh my gosh. What are the gonna do? Are they gonna start having clean vocals?' or whatever. It's, like, no. It's gonna be CANNIBAL CORPSE. That's what you're gonna get. So I totally take that as a compliment.
"The other one we always hear, and that's a major compliment… If you're gonna be put in the same sentence with bands like MOTÖRHEAD… I mean, those are legendary bands, of course," Paul added. "Or we always hear we're the AC/DC of death metal — kind of the same thing. There you go — AC/DC was AC/DC; they weren't anybody else. They weren't trying to be anybody else. They were AC/DC; you know what you're getting.
"To hear those phrases and comparisons like that, it's a complete compliment," he repeated. "And that's what we're going for, man — we've gotta be CANNIBAL CORPSE until the end. That's just the way it is."
CANNIBAL CORPSE's 15th studio album, "Violence Unimagined", was released in April 2021 via Metal Blade Records. Erik Rutan, one of the death metal's most acclaimed guitarists who is known for his time as part of MORBID ANGEL throughout the '90s and early 2000s, as well as handling vocals/guitars for HATE ETERNAL, lent his guitar as well as production skills to the effort, which was recorded at his Mana Recording in St. Petersburg, Florida. Rutan previously produced four CANNIBAL CORPSE albums (in addition to "Violence Unimagined"), alongside the likes of GOATWHORE, SOILENT GREEN and BELPHEGOR. Filling in live on guitar since 2019, in 2020 he became a full member, contributing to the writing process. 7
