LARS ULRICH Looks Back On METALLICA's First-Ever ConcertMETALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich celebrated the 37th anniversary of the band's first-ever concert by sharing the only photo he could find of the drum kit he used at the show, plus the setlist and his diary entry from that day.
The concert took place on March 14, 1982 at Radio City in Anaheim, California — just months before METALLICA made its recording debut on the first "Metal Massacre" compilation (on which they were credited as METTALLICA) — and featured METALLICA's then-lineup of James Hetfield on vocals, Dave Mustaine on guitar, Ron McGovney on bass and Ulrich on drums. The band played mostly covers, charged $15 for people to see the show and drew 75 people.
METALLICA's set included only two original tunes — "Hit The Lights" and "Jump In The Fire" — and was filled out by cover versions of SAVAGE's "Let It Loose", BLITZKRIEG's "Blitzkrieg", SWEET SAVAGE's "Killing Time" and four DIAMOND HEAD songs. At the time of the gig, Hetfield had not yet started playing rhythm guitar while singing, leaving Mustaine as the sole guitarist in the band.
The setlist was as follows:
01. Hit The Lights (Hetfield, Ulrich)
02. Blitzkrieg (BLITZKRIEG cover)
03. Helpless (DIAMOND HEAD cover)
04. Jump In The Fire (Hetfield, Ulrich, Mustaine)
05. Let It Loose (SAVAGE cover)
06. Sucking My Love (DIAMOND HEAD cover)
07. Am I Evil? (DIAMOND HEAD cover)
08. The Prince (DIAMOND HEAD cover)
09. Killing Time (SWEET SAVAGE cover)
Ulrich wrote on Instagram: "37 years ago today, March 14 ’82, the 'TALLICA played our first live show ever at a joint called Radio City in Anaheim, California.
"As you can tell from the notes in my diary, it was my first gig ever and I was 'very nervous.'(!)
"Additionally, you eagle-eyed observers may notice that there’s not a lot of 'TALLICA originals being performed here at the first outing, but almost all NWOBHM covers, most of which ended up being recorded later along the way and showing up on various 'Garage' releases…
"Here for your viewing pleasure is a picture of your Danish drummer from later in '82 still playing my first Camco kit (there are no pictures that exist from the first gig), the OG flyer, the setlist in my handwriting and a page from my diary describing the antics of the evening!
"Happy Live Debut Anniversary! Who would've thought..."
Hetfield spoke about METALLICA's first show during an interview with the U.K. magazine Kerrang! He said: "The first gig was at Radio City, and I was just singing. There were a lot of people there, maybe 200, because we had all my school friends and all Lars's and Ron's and Dave's buddies. I was really nervous and a little uncomfortable without a guitar, and then during the first song, Dave broke a string. It seemed to take him eternity to change it and I was standing there really embarrassed. We were really disappointed afterwards. But there were never as many people at the following shows as there were at that first one."
This incarnation of the band recorded several demos, including the legedary "No Life 'Til Leather" and "Power Metal" tapes. McGovney was replaced by Cliff Burton by the end of 1982, and Mustaine was dismissed in April 1983 before being replaced by EXODUS guitarist Kirk Hammett.

HEADSTONES Cover GORDON LIGHTFOOT Classic "The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald"; Official Video ReleasedFollowing on the heels of their successful album Little Army, Cabadian rockers Headstones have once again been busy recording new music in Kingston, with plans to release a new record later this year. After working at The Bathouse Studio, the band was inspired to release their version of the Gordon Lightfoot classic “The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald.” Always a song on their radar, circumstances finally clicked into place to give them the right opportunity to share their take with their fans.
This impactful interpretation of the iconic track chronicling the sinking of the bulk carrier SS Edmund Fitzgerald on Lake Superior on November 10, 1975 was a #1 hit for Lightfoot and remains one of his best-loved songs. While showing respect for the past, Headstones have put their unique spin on the song to introduce it to a whole new rock audience. The accompanying video was shot on location in Kingston, Ontario.
About the track the band says, “We’ve always loved this song. It’s profoundly meaningful. We started to play it during our tour VIP soundchecks, and our fans really responded to it…. The feedback was exceptional."

EMPLOYED TO SERVE Release "Harsh Truth" Single And Music VideoEmployed To Serve - the fast-rising UK collective who've staked their claim in heavy music's future through consistent ferocious live shows, acclaimed studio recordings plus the desire to give a voice to a disillusioned generation - recently signed a worldwide deal with Spinefarm Records, a Universal Music Group label.
The band have now released the new single and video, "Harsh Truth", featured on their upcoming Spinefarm debut, Eternal Forward Motion, out May 10th.
"In 2017, 5,821 suicides were registered in the UK and is the second leading cause of death among 15-29 year olds. These statistics are staggering, but all is not lost as there has been a decline in attempts thanks to the work of charities such as Samaritans," said singer Justine Jones. "Lyrically, 'Harsh Truth' is an anthem for the ill-represented masses who are struggling behind the veil of positive social media posts. The world is a better place with you in it, so stay alive and seek help as it’s always there."

MICK MARS Says His Upcoming Solo Album Will Be 'A Bit Harder' Than MÖTLEY CRÜEMÖTLEY CRÜE guitarist Mick Mars has confirmed to "Talking Metal" that he is still working on his much-anticipated solo album. "I've been working on this for years, trying to get it right in my way of thinking," he said in a brand-new interview (hear audio below). "I just don't want to put out a record to put out a record. It has to be right — for me. I mean, people wanna hear my music — it needs to be right. I'm not cutting corners to just, like I said, put out a record to put out a record. I just can't do it. So it's taking me a while."
Asked if his upcoming album will still feature guest appearances by Andy Biersack (BLACK VEIL BRIDES) and John Corabi (MÖTLEY CRÜE), both of whom have collaborated with Mars in recent years, Mick said: "Those [collaborations] went away. I'm looking for a singer that's gonna be with me in the recording studio, and if it blows up, by any chance — which I hope it does — to be on tour. 'Cause how many times have you gone, say, to a concert and it's, like, not the same singer [as on the record]? So it's one of those kind of things. I would like to have a few different singers — different sounds, but musician singers. This is gonna sound crazy — like with THE BEATLES. The three guys sang all these harmonies, and you could have John [Lennon] sing on a song, or Ringo [Starr], or whoever. But that kind of a thing is kind of what I'm going for. I'd like to do it. If it happens, cool, and if it doesn't, that's cool too. Because no matter what, this record ain't going out until I'm really satisfied with it."
According to Mars, he is still in the early stages of the recording process for his solo effort. "I have drum tracks laid down, some bass tracks," he explained. "My guitar tracks all scratch tracks. No singers yet. I'm searching. [Laughs] It's just got to be this certain element that he has, or she has, that I'm hearing in my head. It has to be that, 'cause, like I said, I just don't wanna put out a mediocre thing, even though people might think it might be. [Laughs] I don't know. I set my goals high, and if it works, cool, and if it doesn't, that's okay too."
Asked about the musical direction of his solo material, Mars said: "Well, I guess it's my own style. It isn't really blues. My playing has a blues element to it, of course, but it isn't what you would call a blues record. It's more of a heavier rock thing, but I don't wanna even try to 'outheavy' the heavies, you know what I mean? It's just something hopefully just a little different than what's going on now. You're not gonna hear a MÖTLEY-flavored song, except for the guitar, [because] that's me. They're gonna be a bit harder than that, but not as hard as the heavies, like MINISTRY and some of those guys."
Back in 2016, Mars released snippets of two solo songs, apparently called "Gimme Blood" and "Shake The Cage". The tracks, which were recorded at Blackbird Studio in Nashville, Tennessee, also featured Corabi, who appeared on CRÜE's 1994 self-titled album. Corabi later said that he didn't contribute to the writing process for the two songs, but that he was open to collaborating with Mars on some brand new material.
MÖTLEY CRÜE recently completed four songs for "The Dirt Soundtrack" that accompanies the upcoming Netflix film "The Dirt", based on The New York Times best-selling 2001 autobiography by CRÜE and Neil Strauss.
Exclusive to the film's soundtrack, MÖTLEY CRÜE recorded "The Dirt (Est. 1981) (feat. Machine Gun Kelly)", "Ride With The Devil", "Crash And Burn" and a cover of Madonna's "Like A Virgin". 5

SLIPKNOT Officially Parts Ways With CHRIS FEHNSLIPKNOT has officially parted ways with Chris Fehn. The masked metallers made the split official just days after it was reported that the percussionist had filed a lawsuit against his bandmates, claiming that he hasn't been properly compensated for his years of touring with the group.
SLIPKNOT said in a statement: "SLIPKNOT's focus is on making album #6, and our upcoming shows around the world, our best ever. Chris knows why he is no longer a part of SLIPKNOT. We are disappointed that he chose to point fingers and manufacture claims, rather than doing what was necessary to continue to be a part of SLIPKNOT. We would have preferred he not take the path that he has, but evolution in all things is a necessary part of this life."
According to The Blast, Fehn claims in his lawsuit to have always been told that the money from merchandise and touring is funneled through one sole company that splits profits and pays the members of the band. However, Fehn claims he recently discovered that his bandmates have set up several other SLIPKNOT-affiliated business entities in different states that appear to be collecting money from the band.
Fehn says he was unaware of the separate companies, and claims to have never received a dime from them. He specifically accuses band leaders Shawn Crahan and Corey Taylor of shady business dealings.
Fehn wants a full forensic accounting done on SLIPKNOT's companies and assets, and to collect the damages and profits he believes he is owed.
Fehn, known for wearing a Pinocchio-style mask, has been performing with SLIPKNOT since 1998 and participated in all the band's albums. 31

LAMB OF GOD's MARK MORTON Originally Wanted SLASH To Appear On 'Anesthetic' AlbumLAMB OF GOD's Mark Morton told RockSverige in a new interview that he originally approached GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Slash about appearing on his recently released debut solo album, "Anesthetic".
"I'm friendly with Slash and we've talked a few times," Morton said. "He's a LAMB OF GOD fan, from what I understand. I had corresponded with Slash enough where I felt comfortable asking him if I could send him a song. I think it was while he was touring with GUNS N' ROSES, when I reached out to him. He replied: 'Yeah, I'd consider it. I'm busy, but if I can find the time, send me the track and let me have a listen and I'll go from there.' What a positive and awesome response. In the meantime, I cut a solo for the song that I was going to send him because I hadn't heard back and didn't know what was going down, and it just so happened to be a solo I really loved, so I never sent him the song. [Laughs] That's how that worked out. Not that I'm better than Slash. Slash is one of my favorite guitar players. I love, love Slash and GN'R. I got a magic take and I didn't want to let go of it. I just never sent the e-mail. [Laughs]"
Asked what it is about Slash that makes him such a great player, Morton said: "Man, it's all of it. He's just one of those guys like Joe Perry or something. He's got a style that is bluesy and really based in classic blues rock and just cool licks but a signature sound, in the same way that Jimmy Page will do his bends and it sings in a certain way. It's just not common and Slash has those idiosyncrasies too which give him a character on the instrument. That's one of the most valuable things you can have as a player, a sound that is unique to you and a voice of your own and a character to your playing that still fits within the framework of your band and the song and that tells it's you. Slash is for sure one of those guys and he's just cool. [Laughs]"
"Anesthetic", produced by Josh Wilbur and executive produced by Jake Oni, was released on March 1 via WPP Records/Spinefarm. Guest artists on the LP include late LINKIN PARK singer Chester Bennington, Paolo Gregoletto and Alex Bent of TRIVIUM, Jacoby Shaddix of PAPA ROACH, ALTER BRIDGE's Myles Kennedy, STONE SOUR drummer Roy Mayorga, KORN drummer Ray Luzier and ALICE IN CHAINS bassist Mike Inez.
Morton will embark on a U.S. co-headline tour with LIGHT THE TORCH this spring. MOON TOOTH will also appear. The live configuration of Morton's band will include Mark Morales (SONS OF TEXAS) on lead vocals, Doc Coyle (BAD WOLVES, GOD FORBID) on guitar, Nick Villarreal (SONS OF TEXAS) on bass, and Art Cruz (PRONG, WINDS OF PLAGUE) on drums, plus additional special guest appearances along the way.

MARILYN MANSON Putting Finishing Touches On New AlbumMarilyn Manson is putting the finishing touches on his new studio album for a tentative late 2019 release.
Some of the sessions for the follow-up to 2017's "Heaven Upside Down" are apparently taking place at the studio of country rocker Shooter Jennings, who recently worked with Duff McKagan on the GUNS N' ROSES bassist's upcoming solo album.
Manson shared an Instagram photo of him earlier today (Saturday, March 16) along with the caption: "On my way to @shooterjennings to finish my new album"
Manson and Jennings previously teamed up in 2016 to record a cover version of David Bowie's "Cat People (Putting Out Fire)" for Jennings's "Countach (For Giorgio)" LP, a covers collection featuring songs by electronic-music pioneer Giorgio Moroder. Moroder and Bowie wrote "Cat People" for the 1982 film of the same name, but also reimagined it for Bowie's 1983 album "Let's Dance".
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Jennings explained how the collaboration with Manson came about: "I invited him out to a party at this bar, and I said, 'Hey, you know 'Cat People'? You want to do that song on this record, 'cause you'd sound awesome doing it.' And he was like, 'I sing that song every night before I go onstage. That's my song I warm up to.' So one night I went over to his house at three in the morning and brought all my recording gear."
Manson wrote and recorded "Heaven Upside Down" with guitarist and producer Tyler Bates, who also collaborated with the singer on 2015's "The Pale Emperor". It is not presently clear if Bates is involved with the making of Marilyn's new disc.

In addition to setting the tone perfectly for the 11-track, all-killer/no-filler "A Rock Supreme", "I'm In A Band" is an autobiographical mission statement that aptly captures front man Danko Jones's limitless passion for all things rock from its opening words: "I'm in a band, and I love it / All I want to do is play my guitar and rock and roll." The group's last album, 2017's "Wild Cat", cracked the sales charts in Canada and eight European territories, achieving the group's highest chart positions yet in Germany, France, Belgium and Switzerland. Upon its release, lead single "My Little RNR" became one of the fastest-streaming songs of the band's career and has since become a live staple.
Over the years, DANKO JONES has earned extensive praise for its visceral live shows and attitudinal, libidinous rock. STONE LEADERS Featuring Drummer JOHN MACALUSO Release "Box Of Time" Lyric VideoThe Croatian / American quartet Stone Leaders, featuring drummer John Macaluso (ARK, Labyrinth, Michael Romeo and more, fame) have released a lyric video for "Box Of Time", featured on their self-titled debut album, out now in Europe and Australia, and due in May throughout North America and Japan. Watch the clip below.
"You know, one day you’re doing fine until soon you’re walking down a street and a voice or scent, or even a song, pulls you right back to where you were before,” explains Macaluso. “Ultimately, the song is about the power of the mind because sometimes survival depends upon this deleting mechanism in the brain."
Produced by Macaluso alongside the band’s singer / guitarist Ivan Mihaljevic at Mihaljevic’s The Attic Room Studio in Zagreb, the twelve songs on Stone Leaders mix prog rock with a variety of styles ranging from melodic rock to metal.
Says Macaluso, “The songs are more groove oriented than mathematical like most prog metal bands today. We have time changes that are really only there to fit what the lyrics are telling. The music is there to compliment the story that the vocal is relaying. Another thing, the songs aren’t so extended that you don’t remember what the intro of the song was when it ends. They’re medium songs filled with hooks. Lyrically, the songs are both spiritual as well as realistic. There’s some fantasy but not really in a sci-fi sense, more in the way of mind battles, searching, life, death, addiction, religion. We try to touch on everything.”
Stone Leaders tracklisting:
"Box Of Fire"
"DVB4U4ea"
"Fire Up The Oceans"

Video Premiere: DEE SNIDER's 'Lies Are a Business'TWISTED SISTER frontman Dee Snider has released a music video for the song "Lies Are a Business". The track is taken from his latest solo album, "For The Love Of Metal", which was released last July via Napalm Records. The disc, which was produced by HATEBREED vocalist Jamey Jasta, features contributions from Howard Jones (ex-KILLSWITCH ENGAGE), Mark Morton (LAMB OF GOD), Alissa White-Gluz (ARCH ENEMY), Joel Grind and Nick Bellmore (TOXIC HOLOCAUST), and Charlie Bellmore (KINGDOM OF SORROW).
Says Dee: "The socio-political message of 'Lies Are a Business' is more important at this moment in time than ever before. The movement toward more controlling, all-powerful governments continues to grow and the current nightmarish situation in Venezuela is emblematic of the direction our world is sadly heading in.
"The incredible video for this song by award-winning director Leo Liberti of Liberta Filmes truly captures my message with powerful metaphoric imagery while taking nothing away from the metallic power of the song."
Speaking to Chris Annunziata of the New Jersey radio station 90.3 WMSC-FM, Snider said about "For The Love Of Metal": "This is a really exciting album I did not expect to make, especially at this point in my life. I was doing Jamey Jasta's podcast, and he challenged me to make a contemporary rock record. And I was, like, 'Who's producing?' He said, 'I am.' And so we went in the studio [with] no record deal, and people started flocking [to appear on the LP]. It just amazed me, the enthusiasm and excitement that these younger musicians — younger than me, at least — had for working with Dee Snider and being a part of this project."
Dee went on to say that "the album turned out phenomenal," so much so that "we had a bidding war from all the major metal labels," he said. "As Jamey would say, it is hard. It harkens back to my earliest work with TWISTED SISTER, but it's very contemporary sounding with my voice. And people are astounded, actually, that I still have a very strong, very powerful, and as Jamey says, an important, iconic rock voice. So I'm very excited about this album."
Jasta previously described the LP as a "full-on metal album," adding that "people are gonna lose their minds when they hear this." He also called Dee "one of the best vocalists of our time" whose "voice is up there with Ozzy [Osbourne], [Ronnie James] Dio, [Bruce] Dickinson and [Rob] Halford to me. "And it's as powerful as ever," he said.
TWISTED SISTER called it quits in 2016 after completing a farewell 40th-anniversary tour. 4

JUDAS PRIEST's RICHIE FAULKNER To JOE BONAMASSA: 'Stop Acting Like A Spoilt Tit'JUDAS PRIEST's Richie Faulkner has implored Joe Bonamassa to "stop acting like a spoilt tit" after the blues/rock guitar titan complained about an online article based on one of his tweets.
The online exchange started when Bonamassa shared a brief video of him playing some shredding metal licks and riffs on an electric Steinberg six-string. This led to an Ultimate Guitar article headlined "Watch Joe Bonamassa Play Shred Metal on Unexpected Guitar," which received several comments from people criticizing Joe's performance. In response, Bonamassa posted a link to the story and included the following message: "What's going on fellas? Slow news day? I did this for fun and had fun doing it... now it's on your site to be rated by some bullshit number system. Next time.. promote an unknown player that could use the exposure."
A few hours after Joe's tweet made the rounds, Faulkner took to the social media platform to offer his two cents. "Calm down joe and stop acting like a spoilt tit," he wrote. "Everyone judges, good and bad and at the core of all this, it's just people giving their opinions on one of the greatest players on the planet today. Maybe the site also had fun doing what they do the same way you did. Lighten up"
Richie added: "You're right, think of all the guitar players that work for years and can only dream of ANY kind of exposure. You 'do something for fun' and it's seen thousands of times with a vast majority of positive comments and you slag it off. You're an inspiration. What's the issue?"
It wasn't long before Bonamassa responded to Richie's comments, tweeting: "You know Richie it is very simple... If your job is social media at a media co. your performance is judged by two things.. Views and Engagements. It is really easy to accomplish both with a wind up post (click bait) and very hard with an unknown subject or person. Safe travels."
In subsequent tweets, Joe denied that he was offended by people criticizing his performance. "I am long past caring about the comments about my playing from people on the internet," he wrote. "It's not gonna change anything about how I play nor my approach. I do care when a media outlet attempts to start a pile on at my expense. That I do not appreciate at all."
After one fan accused Ultimate Guitar of "pure laziness" for failing to "come up with some original content" instead of "swiping" Joe's video "to generate clicks," Bonamassa wrote: "It's not laziness... Thats just how it's done in the modern digital media business.. It's about clicks, comments good and bad and engagements. So, as long as they appear neutral they win with advertisers. But the protagonist is hung out to dry and they don't care."
Another fan agreed with Richie, saying that he didn't believe Ultimate Guitar shared Joe's video with the intent of generating a negative response and making Bonamassa look bad. Joe then replied: "Positive, negative who cares as long as you click through and see the advertising on the site. Being a principal player in a massive pile on a few years ago... I frankly don't trust their motives nor their intent. Just my oppinion."

METALLICA Bassist Says There Has Been No Discussion About More 'Big Four' Concerts Before SLAYER Calls It QuitsMETALLICA bassist Robert Trujillo says that there has been no discussion about more "Big Four" concerts before SLAYER finally calls it quits.
The so-called "Big Four" of 1980s thrash metal — METALLICA, MEGADETH, SLAYER and ANTHRAX — played together for the first time in history on June 16, 2010 in front of 81,000 fans at the Sonisphere festival at Bemowo Airport in Warsaw, Poland and shared a bill again for six more shows as part of the Sonisphere series that same year. They reunited again for several dates in 2011, including the last "Big Four" concert, which was held on September 14, 2011 at Yankee Stadium in New York City. Since then, METALLICA, SLAYER and ANTHRAX have played a number of shows together, including the 2013 Soundwave festival in Australia. They also performed at the 2014 Heavy MTL festival in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
During an interview with Australia's "The Music" podcast, Trujillo was asked if the "Big Four" concept finally came to an end because SLAYER is wrapping things up with its farewell tour.
"To be honest, I haven't heard any conversations about the 'Big Four,'" Robert responded (hear audio below). "We love SLAYER — I love SLAYER; they're one of my favorite bands. And ANTHRAX is amazing. And that was great what we did a few years back. But I haven't heard any conversations about that. I mean, obviously, we're still in the middle of our tour. And I'm not sure what [the other bands] are doing. I know, yeah, SLAYER is definitely on their final tour. I'm not even sure SLAYER's up for that or what."
He continued: "It's a weird question, because it hasn't been talked about or discussed, because everybody is kind of in the middle of their stuff right now. So I don't even know how to answer that. But I can say it was an incredible experience, and we all had a blast. And it was something that no one thought could really be done, and then it happened. And it was a beautiful thing. But, you know, I think at some point, everybody kind of moves on and they get wrapped up in their stuff, and that's kind of where everybody's at right now."
Last year, MEGADETH leader Dave Mustaine said that he would love play a "Big Four" show where all the bands "got treated fairly" instead of METALLICA performing a longer set and getting more stage space than the other groups on the bill. "It always kind of soured to me when you watch [METALLICA guitarist] Kirk Hammett say on the DVD ['The Big Four: Live From Sofia, Bulgaria'], when they're praying, and he says that 'we're the Big One,'" Mustaine told SiriusXM. "That just kind of shows you how the mentality was there — that it really wasn't the 'Big Four'; it was METALLICA and then the three of us."
Mustaine added: "I would love to see it done in a way where we all got treated fairly and we all played together, same amount of time, same kind of stage situation, but I don't think that's gonna happen. And it's cool, because SLAYER's gonna down in history, and they don't need the 'Big Four' to make them any more legendary than they already are. Nor do I."
Hammett said in a 2017 interview that he believed that the "Big Four" idea would be revisited again. He explained: "I see those shows as kind of like a celebration — a real celebration of each other, and a real celebration of the music that we all make, and a real celebration of the audience embracing [what] we've done. And why not have more of that?"
Six years ago, SLAYER frontman Tom Araya said that the only thing that was standing in the way of further "Big Four" shows was "the politics of character in one particular band," with some fans speculating that he was talking about Mustaine and MEGADETH.
In his autobiography, "Mustaine: A Heavy Metal Memoir", Mustaine addressed the issue of where his band fit in the "Big Four" order. According to The New York Times, he assured the reader that he was not offended by being put behind SLAYER. But he added an interior monologue: "O.K., we'll play ahead of you guys on this trip, and God willing we'll do it again sometime in the near future and we can flip things around." 19

AVANTASIA: Lyric Video For 'Alchemy' Song Feat. Ex-QUEENSRŸCHE Singer GEOFF TATEThe official lyric video for the song "Alchemy" from EDGUY frontman Tobias Sammet's AVANTASIA project can be seen below. The track, which features a guest appearance by ex-QUEENSRŸCHE singer Geoff Tate, is taken from AVANTASIA's latest album, "Moonglow", which was released on February 15 via Nuclear Blast.
Sammet comments: "When I wrote 'Alchemy', I had no one but Geoff Tate in mind. He is one of the most influential singers in the history of melodic metal and I have always adored albums like QUEENSRŸCHE's 'Rage For Order' and 'Operation: Mindcrime'. And that type of singing was exactly what I imagined to hear in AVANTASIA. When we were in the studio, there was magic in the air, Geoff delivered, and even though thousands of singers have been inspired by him, there is only one Geoff Tate. What a great addition to the AVANTASIA family. I can't wait to travel around the globe with Geoff and the team in a couple of days."
In a 2017 interview, Tate said that Sammet had become one of his "favorite people." Geoff explained: "He's got a great sense of humor — an absolute great sense of humor — and doesn't take himself too seriously. And one thing I really like about him is he's very giving and open to other musicians, which is kind of different than my experience, 'cause a lot of musicians are a little bit insecure and they worry about people showing them up — they're kind of competitive. And he's not like that at all — he'll just hand you the stage and go, 'Okay, go. I'll be over here.' [Laughs] And just let you go to town and do your thing. He's not worried about being showed up or anything like that; it's not entered into his mind, I don't think. He's just a very open, giving, expressive human being who is just purely wonderful. I really appreciated that, because there's nothing worse than having somebody trying to tie your hands behind your back and say, 'Okay, do it, but here, balance on one foot.'"
Comprising 11 tracks, the new opus once again features several guest vocalists. This time around, Tobias worked not only with such well-known faces as Ronnie Atkins (PRETTY MAIDS), Jørn Lande (MASTERPLAN), Eric Martin (MR. BIG), Tate, Michael Kiske (HELLOWEEN) and Bob Catley (MAGNUM) but also with new collaborators like Candice Night (BLACKMORE'S NIGHT), Hansi Kürsch (BLIND GUARDIAN) and Mille Petrozza (KREATOR). The cover artwork was created by Alexander Jansson.
"Moonglow" track listing:
01. Ghost In The Moon
02. Book Of Shallows

THE MUTE GODS Launch New Single 'One Day', Featuring RUSH's ALEX LIFESONTHE MUTE GODS, featuring Nick Beggs (STEVEN WILSON, STEVE HACKETT), Roger King (STEVE HACKETT) and Marco Minnemann (THE ARISTOCRATS, THE SEA WITHIN), will release their third studio album, "Atheists And Believers", on March 22.
The official music video for the track "One Day", which features Alex Lifeson of RUSH as a guest, can be seen below.
Nick comments: "Possibly my favorite MUTE GODS song so far? I hope you enjoy it too. If not, jog on."
Arriving just over two years after its predecessor, "Tardigrades Will Inherit The Earth", "Atheists And Believers" sees Beggs once again turning his attention to the state of the world as we know it now, focusing on universal topics such as politics, humanity and love over the course of 10 tracks that run from turbulent rock compositions to more sentimental pieces of music.
Nick comments: "The album's key message is that we now empower stupid people and don't listen to educated, informed experts anymore because truth is no longer fashionable."
For "Atheists And Believers", Beggs has enlisted some very special guests, including Lifeson; Craig Blundell, renowned drummer currently playing with Steven Wilson's band; multi-instrumentalist Rob Townsend with whom Beggs worked in Steve Hackett's band; and his vocalist daughter, Lula Beggs.
"Atheists And Believers" will be released on limited CD digipak, gatefold 180g 2LP + CD and as a digital album.
Track listing:
01. Atheists And Believers
02. One Day
03. Knucklehead
04. Envy The Dead
05. Sonic Boom
06. Old Men
07. The House Where Love Once Lived
08. Iridium Heart
09. Twisted World, Godless Universe
10. I Think Of You
THE MUTE GODS is the musical vehicle Beggs created in 2015 to channel his songwriting. It was conceived while he was embarking on an intensive period of almost continuous touring, first with former GENESIS guitarist Steve Hackett and then later with Steven Wilson, the prolific, widely acclaimed composer, musician and record producer with whom Beggs still records and tours.
Beggs's career spans nearly four decades, working with artists across a broad musical spectrum. Bassist, stick player, composer and vocalist, Beggs has sold more than three million records with his own groups, including KAJAGOOGOO, as well as contributing to genres such as pop, rock, funk, soul, Celtic and, more recently, progressive rock.
Among the artists with whom he has collaborated are rock and pop legends John Paul Jones (LED ZEPPELIN), Belinda Carlisle, Kim Wilde, Gary Numan, Seal and Engelbert Humperdink, as well as progressive rock's Steve Howe, Rick Wakeman, IONA and LIFESIGNS.
Alongside Beggs in THE MUTE GODS are his regular collaborators Roger King and Marco Minnemann. King is the keyboards player, guitarist and producer of "Atheists And Believers", and Steve Hackett's right-hand man for more than 20 years. Minneman, who has also played with Joe Satriani, is regarded as one of rock's most exciting drummers and has worked with Beggs on Wilson tours and recordings.

"Anesthetic" was released on March 1. The first single from the album, "Cross Off", features late LINKIN PARK singer Chester Bennington.
"Cross Off" was recorded in April 2017 and written by Morton, Bennington, Jake Oni and producer Josh Wilbur. Morton recorded all guitars with Paolo Gregoletto and Alex Bent (TRIVIUM) handling bass and drums. The composition of the song began between Morton, Wilbur and Oni before the three approached Bennington about singing vocals. Bennington loved the song and came to the studio with additional ideas and lyrics that, together with his unique and incredible vocal style, shaped the song to be what it is today.
Morton told Metal Hammer magazine about his experience working on "Cross Off" with Bennington: "[Chester] just had a lot of creative input at the ready when he came into the studio," Mark said. "That was my initial, like, wow. He had told me he really liked the song, and we had communicated, but I'd never really hung out with Chester until when we started tracking. I was really impressed for a guy at his level, at the place in the career he was at, someone of his stature and celebrity, to have that level of humility and commitment to come in there and treat this like it would be a LINKIN PARK song, or his own song, or whatever. I was pretty blown away by that. And it was immediate. Fifteen minutes after we met, we were standing over a table, one on either side, each with scraps of paper and pencil, crossing off words and trying different rhyme schemes and stuff. And then after the track was laid out, then we took a breath and started talking about more personal stuff — real-life shit. And yeah… he surprised me the most."
Asked how they connected in the first place, Mark said: "I had my people call his people. It was one of those things where we were listening to the song, like, who in our world would we have singing this? And Chester was the name that came out. So we almost didn't try, because it's Chester Bennington; he's such a superstar. We were kind of, like, come on, we can't get him. But if we hadn't tried, we wouldn't have got him, so we tried, we got his ear, I was surprised to find I was on his radar and all, but through LAMB I was. He heard the song and he was in. It is a really good song. I'm sorry; I don't know if I'm allowed to say that, but it's a good goddamn song, right? We had to iron out a couple of things legally and all that kind of stuff, but on the creative side, he was in from the jump. And I didn't realize how in he really was, but when he showed up, I did, and that was humbling for me."
Morton had been writing some of this debut for years. "This album wasn't a concerted effort to start something outside LAMB OF GOD," he explained. "Music is always in my head, and until I write and record it, it's stuck there. But once I record it, it's out. It's a catharsis, more for my own sanity."
Other singers on the album include Jacoby Shaddix (PAPA ROACH), Myles Kennedy (SLASH, ALTER BRIDGE), Alissa White-Gluz (ARCH ENEMY), Mark Lanegan, Chuck Billy (TESTAMENT), Jake Oni, Josh Todd (BUCKCHERRY), Mark Morales, and Naeemah Maddox. Musically, Morton performs all guitars, with Roy Mayorga (STONE SOUR), David Ellefson (MEGADETH), Ray Luzier (KORN), Gregoletto and Bent, Mike Inez (ALICE IN CHAINS), Jean-Paul Gaster (CLUTCH), Steve Gorman and Marc Paul rounding out the band. 1

Watch ANTHRAX's CHARLIE BENANTE Play 'At Dawn They Sleep' With SLAYERANTHRAX drummer Charlie Benante has uploaded an Instagram video of him playing the SLAYER song "At Dawn They Sleep" with the members of the latter band during soundcheck. The clip, which was apparently filmed earlier today before the two groups' joint concert in Auckland, New Zealand, can be seen below.
Benante wrote in an accompanying caption: "This made my day! Playing "at dawn they sleep" with @slayerbandofficial thanks again @paulbostaphofficial @anthrax @paistecymbals #hellawaits"
A year ago, Benante said that he had "known for a while" that some of the members of SLAYER had been contemplating calling it quits.
SLAYER, one of metal's most popular and influential bands of the past four decades, announced its "final world tour" in January 2018.
In an interview with Jason "Bakko" Bakken of the "Cobras & Fire" podcast, Benante was asked how felt about SLAYER pulling the plug on an impressive three-and-a-half-decade career.
"I think I've known for a while now that some of the guys in the band maybe were feeling it a bit at this point, and I can totally understand that, because I feel it too," the drummer said. "I guess when I saw [the announcement], it kind of hit home with me a bit. I actually got a feeling of putting a time stamp on things.
"I never look at age," Benante continued. "The only time I look at age is when someone brings it to my attention or someone posts my birthday in the papers and stuff like that; that's when I look at it. Or nowadays, it's become really common for the people that I looked up to who are now passing on. So when SLAYER put that [announcement] out, it kind of hit me in a way that was, 'Fuck, man! This ride is… Maybe we're all coming to the end of our ride here a bit.' And I think it probably startled a lot of people, both musicians, both the fans.
"I think life is starting to catch up to all of us," Charlie added. "Fans are just… I think they're all worried now that, what's gonna be left? These shitty bands that are coming up now?"
Benante went on to say that he understands why so many people have a hard time letting their most cherished musicians retire gracefully. "I think the fans want these bands to live on forever, and, of course, so do I," he said. "But there's so many factors into this. Do you wanna go see your [favorite] band and do you wanna come out of it going, 'Oh my God! That was terrible. They barely could play.' Because I've witnessed that. And it's, like, 'Ooh, man.' You feel bad. And you don't want your favorite artist or favorite band to go out like that, but yet there's a part of you that's, like, 'No, no, no. Nostalgia, man. I still need this in my life. Don't do this to me.'
"There's one thing you have to remember: it could either be a song, it could be a movie or whatever, it's always gonna take you back to that place where you were probably most happiest," Charlie continued. "And that's a big thing, especially for all of us, to go back to a place that was safe, happy. You had no responsibility. Who cares? Who cares what time it is? I don't give a fuck. It's, like, remember the days of just staying up all fucking night just to finish a video game and not worry about the next day. I mean, things like that. Being on tour, staying up all night, drinking, listening to music, bonding, and then getting up the next day and doing it all over again. And not having the weight of the world, not having anxiety about what's someone gonna tweet today. I mean, it's crazy."

BURNING RAIN Feat. DOUG ALDRICH, KEITH ST. JOHN, BRAD LANG, BLAS ELIAS: 'Face The Music' VideoBURNING RAIN, the hard rock band founded by guitarist extraordinaire Doug Aldrich (REVOLUTION SAINTS, THE DEAD DAISIES, WHITESNAKE, DIO) and vocalist Keith St. John (MONTROSE, KINGDOM COME), will release its fourth studio album, "Face The Music", on March 22 via Frontiers Music Srl.
The official music video for the disc's title track can be streamed below.
BURNING RAIN was established in 1998 by Aldrich and St. John. After meeting through mutual friends, Aldrich and St. John commenced work on what would eventually become their self-titled debut album. The 1999 record established BURNING RAIN as a hungry-yet-seasoned group of musicians. Although the album was limited in its release, it did receive rave reviews from fans and critics alike for their take on heavy, bluesy hard rock. The following year, BURNING RAIN released the follow-up, "Pleasure To Burn", which showed a matured Aldrich-St. John collaboration that gained even higher praise than the first album.
In 2001, Aldrich joined DIO and later departed in 2003 as he was approached by David Coverdale to join a newly reformed WHITESNAKE, while St. John joined forces with guitar legend Ronnie Montrose. While still in WHITESNAKE, Aldrich started working on new BURNING RAIN music, which saw the light of day in 2013 as the album "Epic Obsession". Their third release was again met with enthusiams from fans and critics alike. Aldrich would later leave WHITESNAKE and join THE DEAD DAISIES and REVOLUTION SAINTS, which left BURNING RAIN on an extended hiatus.
Now, finally a new album is ready for release. "Face The Music" is a blues-driven hard rock record which is truly a tour de force. With a renewed lineup featuring Blas Elias (SLAUGHTER) on drums and Brad Lang (Y&T) on bass, the album evokes the sound of the classic '70s hard rock scene, but also stays true to the BURNING RAIN sound.
"Face The Music" track listing:
01. Revolution
02. Lorelei
03. Nasty Hustle
04. Midnight Train
05. Shelter
06. Face The Music
07. Beautiful Road

SUZI QUATRO: 'Macho Man' Lyric VideoAmerican rock queen Suzi Quatro has released the official lyric video for the song "Macho Man". The track is taken from her forthcoming studio album, "No Control", which will be released through SPV/Steamhammer on March 29 as CD digipak, 2LP gatefold, download and stream.
Quatro presents eleven new songs (plus two bonus tracks) on "No Control". The majority of the material consists of collaborations with her son from her first marriage, Richard Tuckey. Suzi explains: "This was our first attempt at writing and recording something together. The creative progress began with 'Don't Do Me Wrong'. And through this unusually beautiful English summer of 2018, we sat outside, acoustic bass, acoustic guitar, iPad recording app, and lots of paper, throwing ideas back and forth." With amazing results, as the new album proves — to Suzi herself not only on a musical but also on a personal level.
For example, on "No Soul/No Control", the first single to be released which features the message "Don't let go of yourself for anyone." Suzi: "This is my personal mantra. All you have in this world is you." Remembering the conception of the number, she says: "We were busy as hell, buried in the songs. Richard had a new idea and showed me. It was very unusual and I liked it. A very basic guitar and drum track was put down for me to work on the melody and lyric. I went into the living area of the studio and about 15 minutes later, it was done. It flew out of its own accord, as the best songs do."
The same applies to numbers such as "Macho Man" (Suzi: "It's a no-brainer that this is an opening live song. You cannot help headbanging to it, it just grabs you"), "I Can Teach You To Fly" ("a definite throwback to the sixties"), "Easy Pickings" ("I've been playing this riff on acoustic guitar forever, at least the last ten years. Then, all of a sudden, it became a song") and "Love Isn't Fair" ("Got this idea sitting in our Hamburg home. I wanted to create a BLONDIE-meets-MAVERICKS song, and I think I accomplished that").
Perhaps the most unusual track on the album is called "Strings" and has developed into a true little masterpiece during the studio recordings. Suzi: "This is all about the strings that tie our lives together. Great riff. I drove everyone mad singing nonstop in this weird voice 'Strings'. I couldn't get it out of my head, and — hallelujah — it came out in the recording exactly as I'd imagined."
You can tell how proud Suzi Quatro is of "No Control". Pride and delight at a career which has lasted for five decades and has maintained the creativity of the American rock icon to the present day. Says Quatro: "I've never stopped releasing through the years. 'Back To The Drive' in 2006, 'In The Spotlight' in 2011, 'Quatro, Scott & Powell' in 2016. These albums were thought about and planned out in great detail. I am proud of all three releases, very proud. But my new album 'No Control' is its own animal."
Track listing:
01. No Soul/No Control
02. Going Home
03. Strings
04. Love Isn't Fair
05. Macho Man
06. Easy Pickings
07. Bass Line
08. Don't Do Me Wrong
09. Heavy Duty
10. I Can Teach You To Fly
11. Going Down Blues 1

DANKO JONES Premieres New Song 'I'm In A Band'With just six weeks left until the release of their highly-anticipated new album, "A Rock Supreme", the acclaimed Canadian hard rock group DANKO JONES has unveiled a fourth song from the record — its infectious opening track, "I'm In A Band".
In addition to setting the tone perfectly for the 11-track, all-killer/no-filler "A Rock Supreme", "I'm In A Band" is an autobiographical mission statement that aptly captures front man Danko Jones's limitless passion for all things rock from its opening words: "I'm in a band, and I love it / All I want to do is play my guitar and rock and roll." The song can now be streamed on Spotify, Apple Music and other digital platforms.
"A Rock Supreme" was produced by GGGarth Richardson (RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, RISE AGAINST, BIFFY CLYRO) and is due out April 26 via M-Theory Audio (U.S.), Rise Above (U.K.), Indica (Canada, AU, NZ) and AFM (rest of the world).

Live From Telia Parken") — has made a name for itself over the years as a must-see live band during memorable tours with the likes of GUNS N' ROSES, MOTÖRHEAD and CLUTCH.
The group's last album, 2017's "Wild Cat", cracked the sales charts in Canada and eight European territories, achieving the group's highest chart positions yet in Germany, France, Belgium and Switzerland. Upon its release, lead single "My Little RNR" became one of the fastest-streaming songs of the band's career and has since become a live staple.
Over the years, DANKO JONES has earned extensive praise for its visceral live shows and attitudinal, libidinous rock. The group's best-known material includes "Had Enough", which earned the group their first gold and platinum singles in Sweden and has racked up more than 13 million Spotify streams; "Gonna Be A Fight Tonight", which WWE used as the official theme song of the 2015 Royal Rumble; and "Lovercall", its first of seven singles to crack the U.S. Active Rock Top 40.

POSSESSED To Release 'Revelatons Of Oblivion' Album In MayCalifornian death metal pioneers POSSESSED will release their first full-length album in over three decades, "Revelatons Of Oblivion", on May 10 via Nuclear Blast.
POSSESSED frontman Jeff Becerra said: "This album from start to release has been a fantastic experience. All of us in POSSESSED hope you enjoy this newest release and we look forward to touring and creating much more new music in the future. We appreciate all of your support and dedication. Hope to see you during our upcoming tours & shows soon. Thank you to each and every one of you for your inspiration and dedication to POSSESSED."
"Revelations Of Oblivion" was recorded at NRG studios and Titan Studios with Becerra as executive producer and Daniel Gonzalez as co-producer for the album. Mixing and mastering was handled by Peter Tägtgren (HYPOCRISY, PAIN, BLOODBATH) at Abyss Studios in Sweden. For the artwork, the band enlisted Polish artist Zbigniew Bielak (PARADISE LOST, DIMMU BORGIR, DEICIDE, GHOST, GORGUTS) to create a piece that brought back the notion of true fear that was once associated with the idea of evil.
Said Jeff: "Working with Peter was a fantastic experience. We put a great deal of thought into who we wanted to produce our new album. Since we hadn't made an all-new material release in well over 30 years, it was essential that we found the right person. Peter's name kept coming up over and over, and after speaking with my bandmates they all really liked Peter as he is more organic, and somebody we felt would fit in well with our process."
The track listing for the CD is as follows:
01. Chant Of Oblivion
02. No More Room In Hell
03. Dominion
04. Damned
05. Demon
06. Abandoned
07. Shadowcult
08. Omen
09. Ritual
10. The Word
11. Graven
12. Temple Of Samael
The cover artwork can be seen below. Also available is the official visualizer for the song "No More Room In Hell".
Back in 2017, Becerra told Antihero Magazine that the band's upcoming studio album, which will be their first full-length effort since 1986's "Beyond The Gates", would contain "some really fucking good death metal. I'm really happy with a lot of the tracks," he said. "I'm collaborating with [new POSSESSED members] Daniel [Gonzalez, guitar] and Claudeous [Creamer, guitar]. We're working together hard to create something that we really like. We're hoping that translates well to other people and beyond. We're hoping people like it. If they don't, then fuck them."
Regarding the musical direction of POSSESSED's new material, Jeff said: "Well, it's me. I'm still me. I would say…it's very POSSESSED-y, but it's not so dated. I think as much as I love the first three albums, they're a little dated, so we're trying to bring it back into this century. We're not going to over-produce it or do anything but straight death metal. It's just what I want to play and what the band wants to play."
Becerra remains the only member from POSSESSED's classic lineup, which dissolved entirely in 1987 after the "Eyes Of Horror" EP. 21

Listen To MÖTLEY CRÜE's Cover Of MADONNA's 'Like A Virgin'MÖTLEY CRÜE's cover version of Madonna's "Like A Virgin" can be streamed below. The track appears on "The Dirt Soundtrack" that accompanies the upcoming Netflix film "The Dirt", based on The New York Times best-selling 2001 autobiography by CRÜE and Neil Strauss.
MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx told Billboard that the idea to record "Like A Virgin" came to him while he was taking a stroll with his dogs, which he does at the end of each day as part of his meditative practice. "When my mind's open like that, these ideas pop in," he said. "And [it] popped in my head, and I sort of like looked up, as if to laugh at God, and went, 'You're pretty funny.'" Although Sixx initially felt it was "actually a really horrible idea" to cover the song, he told producer Bob Rock about it, and Rock replied: "Yeah, I don't know. Good luck!" But Sixx impressed him and drummer Tommy Lee with a rough demo he had cut, and the band completely reworked the track but left the lyrics intact. ("It was weird to hear Vince [Neil] singing, 'I'm like a virgin,'" he admitted.) There's a part of the song that "does this little gahnk-guh-guh-guh-guh-guh-gahnk that Mick [Mars, guitar] does, a bit of a nod to METALLICA because [when] METALLICA heard the 'Dr. Feelgood' album, [they] used Bob Rock to make the Black Album," Sixx said. "It's kind of a nod back to those guys because we were workin' with Bob again."
Asked if Madonna knows about MÖTLEY recording the cover, Sixx said: "I don't know. She will soon, I imagine. Maybe we can get her in the video."
Due on March 22, the 18-song soundtrack mastered by Grammy winner Dave Donnelly features a collection of MÖTLEY CRÜE classics that meaningfully underscore significant moments that shape the film. The album includes 14 fan favorites and chart topping tracks such as "Dr. Feelgood" that charted at No. 6 on Billboard's Hot 100 and the anthemic "Girls, Girls, Girls" which reached No. 2 on the Billboard Top 200, among others. Additional hits featured are "Kickstart My Heart", "Same 'Ol Situation (S.O.S.)", "Shout At The Devil" and the iconic ballad "Home Sweet Home" that landed the band mainstream recognition.
Exclusive to the film's soundtrack, MÖTLEY CRÜE recorded four new songs featuring the single, "The Dirt (Est. 1981) (feat. Machine Gun Kelly)" with effortless rap verses surrounding signature guitar riffs. The three remaining songs conclude the album with the catchy "Ride With The Devil", "Crash And Burn" and the aforementioned "Like A Virgin".
"The Dirt" movie, which was helmed by "Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa" director Jeff Tremaine, was picked up by Netflix after being previously developed at Focus Features and before that at Paramount. 10
