According to Darker Than Blue, Deep Purple's new album, Whoosh!, has reached the Top 10 in 12 countries worldwide - with more to come.

Current chart positions:

Germany - #1
Finland - #1
Belgium (Wallonia) - #1
Scotland - #1
Czech Republic - #2
Sweden - #3
Norway - #3
UK - #4 (highest chart entry in 46 years)

France - #8

Whoosh! is available as a Standard CD, a Digital Album, a Limited Edition CD+DVD Mediabook (including the 1 hour feature “Roger Glover And Bob Ezrin In Conversation” and, for the first time, the full live performance at Hellfest 2017 video), and a Vinyl 2LP+DVD edition (earMUSIC). Order here.

Whoosh! marks Deep Purple’s third album produced by Bob Ezrin (Alice Cooper, Pink Floyd). The first - 2013’s Now What?! - charted at #1 in five European countries, as well as Top 10 in over 15 countries worldwide. Cementing itself as one of their most successful albums, inFinite, released in 2017, broke chart records the band accumulated over their 50+year history. With chemistry this electric, it only made sense for Deep Purple and Ezrin to collaborate a third time.

VARG Release "Auf Die Götter" Single And Music Video; Zeichen Album Details Revealed

VARG Release "Auf Die Götter" Single And Music Video; Zeichen Album Details Revealed

Today, the wolves of Varg release their second pagan metal single, “Auf die Götter” (engl. To The Gods), cut from the upcoming full-length, Zeichen, to be released on September 18 via Napalm Records. Along with an artful conceptualized official music video, the track relates to the Viking era and the tradition of worshipping miscellaneous gods, but also to the band’s past.

Shot in an ancient druid grove, the audio-visual embeds the music into the perfect surrounding and atmosphere. Freki’s cutting vocals merge with powerful guitar riffs and a melody that gets stuck in your head! Varg has never forgotten their pagan metal roots and this track marks their pure heritage as they return with full musical power!

Singer Freki states: "We decided to release 'Auf die Götter' (engl. To The Gods) as the second single, because it helps our fans to dive deeper into the concept of our new album Zeichen (engl. Signs). Before Christianisation, the Nordic mythology had a dominant impact on Viking culture. Gods as Odin, Thor, Loki and Freya embodied the center of belief. 'Auf die Götter' refers to this ancient belief and to the traditions within."

Watch the video for “Auf die Götter” below.

On their authentic masterpiece Zeichen, the wolves of Varg return to their roots and embark on a journey further down a new road. Within the first seconds of the album opener breaking loose, Varg draws the listener into the year “793” that heralded the ferocious era of the Vikings. In contrast, "Fara Til Ranar", including additional female vocals, is a melancholic, captivating saga about the Nordic sea goddess Rán, who pulls wandering sailors down into her wet grave. "Verräter", on the other hand, emphasizes the suffering and vengeance towards former allies with rapid guitar leads, and ultimately, the album culminates in the mighty title hymn “Zeichen”.

In addition to the ten new tracks, the mediabook contains a bonus CD featuring alternate versions of each song the band recorded with renowned guest musicians from Eluveitie, Nachtblut and Equilibrium among others. Looking at the final opus, it's not surprising why Varg took four years after the publication of Das Ende Aller Lügen (which hit number 17 on the German charts) to regather their forces, and today, Zeichen shows that Freki, Fenrier, Morkai and Garm consciously took their time to realign their inner compass and are not afraid of musical and intellectual freedom.

Singer Freki states: "In Norse mythology, the earth cleanses itself in fire and rises from the ashes - Zeichen is the rebirth of Varg. Based on our pagan metal roots, we have lyrically discarded all modern elements and simultaneously lifted vocals, melody and musical hardness to a whole new level. The path we walk on Zeichen is raw, pagan, authentic and completely dedicated to the Viking cult, runes and the old gods. Can you hear the murmuring? The runes have awakened!"

Zeichen will be available in the following formats:

- 2-CD mediabook
- 1-CD jewelcase
- 1 LP gatefold black
- 1 LP gold/black spotted (Napalm shop exclusive)
- wooden box set (Napalm shop exclusive)

SAXON Unleash New Casino Game; Play Now And Get Signed Vinyl!

NWOBHM legends Saxon took a short break from the quarantine and have released a game at Metal Reels! When the entire live scene was forced to standstill, due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, Saxon have released a fast-paced casino game with legendary songs, motorcycles and other classic heavy metal gadgets. Previously, bands like Twisted Sister, Sabaton, Testament, and Annihilator, among others, have also released casino games, often accompanied with unique offers, like limited and/or signed vinyls etc. So even if you don't win, you get something cool and unique from the band in the mailbox.

Metal Reels comments: “We have of course tested to play the game and must say that it's some great fun and has some fantastic graphics. But remember, if you play, play in moderation. If you do just that, you get yourself some really cool and exciting entertainment in the name of heavy metal by a band that was there in the beginning! You can find this game along with a bunch of other great rock games at Metal Reels.”

Playing the new Saxon game offers up a chance to win a signed copy of singer Biff Byford’s debut solo effort, School Of Hard Knocks.

UNLEASH THE ARCHERS To Stream Abyss Virtual Album Release Show

UNLEASH THE ARCHERS To Stream Abyss Virtual Album Release Show

Canadian melodic power metal quartet, Unleash The Archers, will release their fifth full-length album, Abyss, out August 21 via Napalm Records. With Abyss, the band re-cements themselves as an unequalled, undeniable metallic force with their strongest album to date.

Lockdown got you locked up? Unleash The Archers would never leave their diehard fans hanging. The band announces their official Abyss virtual album release show, exclusively streaming on Saturday, August 22 - just one day after the album's release. Witness the band perform tracks from Abyss and other fan favorites straight from Vancouver venue The Rickshaw Theatre. The streaming event will take place at 12 PM, PDT/3 PM, EDT/9 PM, CEST, and will be viewable for just $10 via a virtual ticket, available to purchase now here. Viewing instructions will be provided to ticket buyers upon purchase, and the stream will be available for 24 hours after the initial show time.

Frontwoman Brittney Slayes says: "We are so excited to hit the stage again! Even though we will just have to imagine all of our fans' smiling faces are behind the cameras, we know we are going to have a blast playing these new songs for everyone. It is also a great chance to support one of our favourite local venues that has been hit really hard by the global pandemic. The Rickshaw is a huge part of the metal community in Vancouver so we are happy to have a chance to give back to them. We absolutely can't wait to rock out and let the music take us far away from all the darkness in the world right now, and really hope everyone can join us and take a little break from the madness for a while!"

Thematically, Abyss is the direct sequel to the band’s 2017 album Apex. Beginning with a dreamlike acoustic introduction accented by the smoky beckonings of singer Brittney Slayes, opener “Waking Dream” quickly punches into a colossal wall of sound, setting the stage for the auditory escape that is Abyss. Powerful anthems such as the immense power metal-encapsulated title track “Abyss” and metallic pop-tinged earworm “Through Stars” conjure classic elements while maintaining an entirely fresh, forward-thinking approach. Guitarists Andrew Kingsley and Grant Truesdell turn heads with wicked work on stellar tracks such as “Legacy” (fans of artists like Devin Townsend and Astronoid, take note), while Slayes showcases her incredible vocal diversity and range on mighty epics like “Return To Me” and “The Wind That Shapes The Land”. Drummer Scott Buchanan makes technical strides on burners “Soulbound” and “Faster Than Light” – setting breakneck twists and turns ablaze with his bandmates. Unleash The Archers rounds the edge of Abyss with throwback-hued “Carry The Flame”, and wraps up with the soaring, rewarding concept closer “Afterlife”.

Abyss was once again engineered, mixed and mastered by Jacob Hansen of Hansen Studios in Denmark (Volbeat, Delain, Amaranthe), with production by guitarist Andrew Kingsley. Additionally, transcendent closer track “Afterlife” features orchestration contributions from Francesco Ferrini of Italian symphonic death metal machine Fleshgod Apocalypse. Fans will notice that, unlike on Apex, Abyss incorporates a weighty dose of synth in the mix, and for the first time ever, all tracks were written on seven strings - adding to the massive expanse of the album’s sound as it explores the celestial realm.

Pre-order Abyss in available formats here.

As mentioned, the Deluxe Earbook edition of Abyss features two bonus tracks - synthwave and gothic folk-pop versions of “Abyss” and “Soulbound”, respectively. This is something Unleash The Archers has never done before, turning their singles into something completely different!

Abyss tracklisting:

"Waking Dream"
"Abyss"
"Through Stars"
"Legacy"
"Return To Me"
"Soulbound"
"Faster Than Light"
"The Wind That Shapes The Land"
"Carry The Flame" (feat. guitarist Andrew Kingsley on guest vocals)

Watch 10 YEARS' Music Video For 'The Shift'

Watch 10 YEARS' Music Video For 'The Shift'

Knoxville, Tennessee rockers 10 YEARS have released the official music video for their new single, "The Shift". The track is taken from the band's upcoming album, "Violent Allies", which will be released on September 18 via Mascot Records. The disc was recently recorded at West Valley Recording Studios in Woodland Hills, California with Grammy-nominated producer Howard Benson, who previously worked on 10 YEARS' 2010 effort, "Feeding The Wolves".

"The Shift" has already been streamed over a million times on Spotify, and 2.2 million collective plays across all platforms. Additionally, the track is Top 25 at rock radio.

The band shares: "We have all been missing the stage so much, and 'The Shift' is one of those songs that was built for the energy of the live show. Since we can't be out on the road right now, we wanted to visually escape back to the days of touring, and bring that energy to the video."

On its ninth full-length album, 10 YEARS — Jesse Hasek (vocals), Brian Vodinh (guitar [live] /drums, bass, backing vocals [recording]), and Matt Wantland (guitar / synth programming) — progresses as a unit once more. Embracing heightened vulnerability, elevated songcraft, and sonic adventurousness, they convert the push-and-pull of their collective creativity into a cohesive, clear, and cathartic body of work.

"We don't ever try to recreate what we've done in the past," explains Jesse. "We knew we had to challenge ourselves to see what we had in us. If it's not stressful, you're not challenging yourself to grow. From the beginning, music has always been therapy and an outlet. We let ourselves enjoy the process, be vulnerable, and talk about those emotions. We got back to why we love music with the maturity of where we're at in our lives. We were able to harness that love of creating from a wiser and more developed perspective."

"We were hard on ourselves," admits Brian. "It was more intense than during records past, but it was worth it. The outcome was exactly what we wanted it to be.

"Time spent in the studio or simply collaborating on our vision was a catalyst in reaching creative clarity like we've never had before. It reminded all three of us that this bond created over the last two decades is best served when individual voices becomes collective vision. It was fun, because we were back to being brothers. No matter how frustrated we might get, once we looked out at it, the energy was unexplainable. Our mission was to really connect with the songs, break them down, and build them back up."

Brian adds: "The younger versions of us would've been going to Hollywood every night and partying. It was different. We actually came up with a lot of ideas, melody tweaks, and had really good brainstorming sessions in the car on the PCH. The whole vibe contributed to what the record is. All we cared about was writing and recording the best songs we possibly could. We felt like we had something to prove, especially to our A&R guy and the president of North America for Mascot Ron Burman."

They prove it on cuts like the first single "The Shift". Melodic guitars slide across a caustic beat before a rush of distortion ignites the refrain, "We are a violent virus, without a remedy."

"Lyrically, it's about the polarization of society and the human impact on the earth itself," states Brian. "We were thinking about how humans can be a virus to the Earth."

"While in the studio last fall, we were looking at the state of the world as we wrote 'The Shift'," Jesse reveals. "As a society, we're so distracted that we're not united. When the pandemic happened, it became so important to finally see the positivity of humanity. We've realized we're all in this together. You can pick a side, but we're sitting in the same realm." Airy keys echo through "The Unknown". It builds towards a sweeping celestial chorus. "We're in a wide-open world we've created, but we have to step back and look at where we are and adapt," continues Jesse. "We're all in the unknown right now."

A clean riff snakes past the verses of "Without You" before a hypnotic hook unfurls. The instrumental "Planets" interludes thread the album together with soft piano and acoustic as a counterpoint to the explosive energy of "Cut The Cord" and "Start Again". There is a broad, dynamic range of repertoire on the new album as exhibited by the lead single "The Unknown" and its opening with ominous yet hopeful piano notes alongside Jesse's lamenting uncertain times in the vocals, to the heavy drums and distorted guitars on "Déjà Vu". Everything culminates on "Say Goodbye". The conclusion's cinematic soundscape and poignant lyrics bid farewell to Jesse's late grandfather and emphasize "the band at our most vulnerable," according to the frontman.

Meanwhile, the title speaks to an overarching theme. "We came back to this quote, 'There's a strange power in the joining of unlike things'," remembers Brian. "There is something incredibly special about how we create. 'Violent Allies' is the perfect way to summarize it. We go through hell facing all challenges head-on, but the final product is worth it. Simultaneously, it reflects the state of divisiveness in The World. Everything is so political. Everyone is angry at each other. We're better when we come together though."

In the end, 10 YEARS keeps growing as "Violent Allies". "This record wasn't just another record," Brian leaves off. "It's the result of working hard to improve on all levels. There's a lot to dig into. It's a graduated state for the band."

"After all of this time, 10 YEARS is a brotherhood," Jesse concludes. "I've spent the better half of my life accomplishing what I never thought was possible with these guys. It's been an unexplainable, crazy, and awesome journey since Brian first asked me to join the band on his 19th birthday. We've beat the odds and continue to live life. It bothers me when people don't try to push themselves to enjoy what life has to offer. Life is beautiful, if you really go for it and try. It can show you beauty — and that's what this band has shown me."

SYSTEM OF A DOWN's JOHN DOLMAYAN: Those Who Despise DONALD TRUMP Will Try To Get Him Out Of Office By Any Means Necessary

SYSTEM OF A DOWN's JOHN DOLMAYAN: Those Who Despise DONALD TRUMP Will Try To Get Him Out Of Office By Any Means Necessary

SYSTEM OF A DOWN drummer John Dolmayan says that people who "despise" President Donald Trump will try to get him out of office "by any means necessary."

The musician, who has praised Trump in recent weeks and has accused Democrats of "demonizing" the president and "blaming him for everything under the sun," took to his Instagram earlier today (Sunday, August 16) to share a picture of a "Cheat To Win" parody of the Livestrong bracelet worn by Lance Armstrong fans. He wrote in an accompanying message: "To win by any means necessary. Fraud , murder , extortion , race baiting , dividing the people , distorting facts , angling , lying , inciting violence , erasing history , attacking religious beliefs and much much more . It's all worth it if we win, the mantra of the power brokers .

"You'll be seeing and hearing a lot about the US PS [U.S. Postal Service] in the coming weeks , hearing from people in high places ,many of which couldn't tell you what the inside of a post office looks like." [Editor's note: Trump admitted last week during a Fox News interview that he opposes at least part of the proposed emergency funding infusion for the post office, because he believes the uptick in mail-in ballots during the pandemic will favor Democrats. He also repeated his baseless claim that mail-in voting will lead to voter fraud, stating that the $3.5 billion directed toward mail-in voting will go toward "something that'll turn out to be fraudulent."]

"There is a battle going on," John continued. "Biden is a weak candidate at best and for those who despise Donald Trump getting him out of office by any means necessary is far more important then our electoral process.

"There are those on both sides who would burn this country to the ground if they can't have it in their image , don't be one of them. If you don't like the president or anyone else in power vote with your convictions. If a candidate you don't like wins accept that and hope for the best for this country.

"We must hold our leaders accountable, we must have a third party , and we must stop the destruction and civil war of thought and deed . Lastly we must defund the media that is crippling all of us with sensationalistic fear mongering , they are owned and operated by the same elites many of you are trying so desperately to condemn be leaders not followers , and set an example for the next generation because they are watching you and learning from you , teach them to be of high moral character"

This past June, Dolmayan blasted "cowards" who criticize those who think they are "coming from a morally superior position," saying that they "can't handle free speech" and "need to be herded along with the rest of the sheep."

He also called Democrats "the true bigots" who "fought to maintain slavery" and were "directly responsible for 70 plus million abortions, a large majority of whom were black."

Dolmayan supports Trump's claim that his administration has done more for the African-American community "than any president since Abraham Lincoln."

John's views are in sharp contrast to those of SYSTEM OF A DOWN singer Serj Tankian, who has called for Trump to resign and described him as "completely useless" over his handling of the coronavirus outbreak.

IN FLAMES' BJÖRN GELOTTE On Coronavirus Crisis: 'This Won't Affect The Love Or The Passion For What We Do'

IN FLAMES' BJÖRN GELOTTE On Coronavirus Crisis: 'This Won't Affect The Love Or The Passion For What We Do'

IN FLAMES guitarist Björn Gelotte spoke to Australia's Heavy magazine about how he is dealing with the coronavirus crisis and what the touring circuit might look like post-pandemic. He said (hear audio below): "It's been weird. The first couple of weeks, I felt like I was skipping school or something. I was, like, 'I'm supposed to be somewhere, and I'm not, and that feels [strange]. But then I realized that everyone I know, everybody in music, everybody who's a fan of music, everybody's in the same position here — we're all in the same boots. So it felt weird in the beginning, but after the first couple of weeks, it was just the realization that this is the way the world is right now, and you just deal with it. You try to stay safe, and your loved ones, you try to keep them safe as well.

"There's always next year," he explained. "We've been around for such a long time, this won't affect the love or the passion for what we do. I think it's more a matter of [it being] like a non-existing year for most bands right now. And we started planning right away — we moved everything a year ahead, basically. It's interesting, though. It's the first time we actually had a full plan for the full year, and, of course, this shit happens."

Asked if he has written any new music while he has been in quarantine, Gelotte said: "I haven't really been productive when it comes to music. Basically, I've tidied up and polished things around in the studio I have at home — updated all the software and got all the stuff that I wanted to get done that I never had time to. I've written some stuff, but it was mainly just to try out [the new software]. I've [been] hanging with the family, obviously, I've done a lot of painting — all the things that you kind of miss when you're on tour, all those things. But it gets sort of watered down after a while, because now I can do all the things I really long for, but I can do 'em all the time, and I can't do what I'm supposed to do. So it's been kind of weird.

"When you have a break that you've chosen to have, then it's different, because then you look forward to it," he said. "My mind was on touring. It's a nice place to be, in that mindset, and when that gets taken away from you, the air kind of goes out of you."

A special 20th-anniversary edition of IN FLAMES' "Clayman" album will be released on August 28. "Clayman 20th Anniversary Edition" comes entirely remastered by Ted Jensen (PANTERA, DEFTONES, GOJIRA) and features all-new artwork in a 16-page booklet, a brand-new instrumental medley plus four re-recorded versions of fan favorites such as "Only For The Weak" and "Pinball Map". Re-recorded songs were produced by Howard Benson (MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE, MOTÖRHEAD) and mixed by Chris Lord-Alge (GREEN DAY, ROB ZOMBIE). The record will be released digitally as well as on CD digipak and a 2xLP colored vinyl packaged in a deluxe trifold that includes an oversized booklet, 11 remastered tracks on a 12-inch record and five bonus tracks on a 10-inch record in a printed sleeve.

Preceding the physical release of "Clayman 20th Anniversary Edition", IN FLAMES has digitally released the "Clayman 2020 EP", which features the 2020 versions of "Only For The Weak", "Bullet Ride", "Pinball Map", "Clayman" and a new instrumental track, "Themes And Variations In D-Minor".

IN FLAMES' latest album, "I, The Mask", was released in March 2019 via Nuclear Blast (worldwide, excluding North America) and Eleven Seven Music (North America).

IRON MAIDEN's ADRIAN SMITH is 'Very Excited' About His Rumored Collaboration With RICHIE KOTZEN

IRON MAIDEN's ADRIAN SMITH is 'Very Excited' About His Rumored Collaboration With RICHIE KOTZEN

In a new interview with Eonmusic, IRON MAIDEN guitarist Adrian Smith confirmed that he has another side project in the works. "I'm very excited about it, but I can't say," he said. "I'm doing a lot of singing, but the person I'm working with, we're sort of splitting the vocals. But that'll be coming. I'm very excited about it, but I'm sworn to secrecy at the moment."

Asked if there is a possibility of any live dates from this project, Adrian said: "Hopefully, hopefully. It depends on the bloody virus, you know? At the moment, everything's screwed, so…"

Although Smith did not offer any details about his new project, he was almost certainly referring to a much-rumored collaboration with THE WINERY DOGS guitarist/vocalist Richie Kotzen, who had posted several photos of the two of them hanging out together in recent months.

Kotzen alluded to his project with Smith during a February 2020 interview with the "Another FN Podcast". At the time, he said: "I don't like talking about things until they're finished, but if you look at the photographs [on my Instagram] and who I'm with, and that sort of thing, you could assume that there may be a collaboration in the works."

He added: "It's very surreal, because it's a band that I grew up with; it was one of my favorite bands forever, and one of my first hard rock concerts. So it's very surreal. Very cool. [I'm] very excited."

Smith is currently promoting his memoir, "Monsters Of River & Rock", which will be released on September 3 via Virgin Books.

This past February, Kotzen released his 22nd solo album, "50 For 50", via his own custom label, Headroom-Inc. The three-disc collection is just what the title implies: a collection of 50 previously unreleased compositions produced, performed and written by Kotzen in honor of his birthday. It's the follow-up to his critically acclaimed "Salting Earth" album, which came out in April 2017 via Headroom-Inc.

EVANESCENCE's AMY LEE: Why I Decided To Publicly Open Up About My Political Views For First Time

Last week, EVANESCENCE released a new single, "Use My Voice", which was written to celebrate the power of speaking out in order to promote more justice in the world. The track, featuring contributions from THE PRETTY RECKLESS's Taylor Momsen and HALESTORM's Lzzy Hale, was chosen by HeadCount in the USA to encourage voters to register, check their registration, or find out about their remote voting options amid the COVID-19 pandemic at UseMyVoice.org.

"That song has been bubbling in the background for me for a couple of years," EVANESCENCE singer Amy Lee told Billboard. "I've never really... spoken politically, or made any real statement about what I believe and what's going on, because I don't like to divide the fans. I want the music to be our free place where we can all have something in common. But sometimes things are just right and wrong, and you have feelings that can't be held back. And if I'm gonna be true to myself and my music, like I always have been, then I have to say what's heavy on my heart."

This past May, Lee said that she was " angry, horrified" and "ashamed" over the murder of George Floyd in police custody as well as President Donald Trump's response to the subsequent protests and riots.

Just three months earlier, Lee opened up about her political views for the first time, explaining that she couldn't "stand by" and keep her mouth shut while her "country's freedom is taken away." He decision to speak out was apparently prompted by the GOP-controlled Senate's vote to acquit Trump on both articles of impeachment without calling witnesses.

She wrote at the time: "I do not accept lying, cheating or bullying from my government… Accepting this abuse says it's okay for our leaders to lie to us, cheat on us, make decisions without our input, and silence us when we try to speak up. This isn't about your policies or beliefs, it's about our freedom."

Lee added: "I will never bow down to a dictator."

EVANESCENCE's long-awaited new album, "The Bitter Truth", will arrive later this year.

The band's new music is being produced by Nick Raskulinecz, who also worked on 2011's self-titled LP.

EVANESCENCE spent much of the last two years recording and touring in support of 2017's "Synthesis", which contained some of the band's best-loved songs — as well as a couple of new ones — reinvented with full orchestra over a deep electronic landscape.

THE PRETTY RECKLESS's TAYLOR MOMSEN Explains Decision To Delay 'Death By Rock And Roll' Album Until 2021

THE PRETTY RECKLESS's TAYLOR MOMSEN Explains Decision To Delay 'Death By Rock And Roll' Album Until 2021

THE PRETTY RECKLESS singer Taylor Momsen spoke to Forbes about the band's decision to hold off on releasing its new album, "Death By Rock And Roll", until 2021.

"We talked about holding the song 'Death By Rock And Roll' for longer too, and I was, like, 'I can't do this. I can't just sit on this album forever,'" she said. "The world needs music and music has such a healing thing to it, and it saved my life, time and time again.

"If we put out a song and if it can put a smile on some people's faces, great; we'll take it from there. That's kind of what we're doing — we're riding the wave.

"This is just such an unprecedented time, so we're trying to take it step by step, and see where things go," she explained.

"Everything is still up in the air, but we are planning on releasing more singles before the full album is out. There's going to be more music to come. [The title track] is just the first little taste or the tip of the iceberg, if you will.

"The main reason for delaying it was simply because putting out a few songs and not being able to play them is one thing, but putting out a full album and not being able to tour is crazy," Taylor added. "Now, who knows when touring is going to come back? I keep hearing different things, and the date keeps getting later and later. We can't wait forever. Eventually, we'll just put it out. But that was kind of the main reason for it, and like I said, it's kind of just the waiting game now."

"Death By Rock And Roll" will be released via Fearless Records in the U.S. and Century Media Records in the rest of the world. The title track was made available in May.

Momsen recently confirmed in an interview that RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE guitarist Tom Morello guests on "Death By Rock And Roll". Morello appears on a track called "And So It Went".

Morello joins previously announced guests Kim Thayil and Matt Cameron from SOUNDGARDEN. The song with Cameron and Thayil, called "Only Love Can Save Me Now", was recorded at Seattle's legendary London Bridge Studios, where seminal LPs like PEARL JAM's "Ten" and SOUNDGARDEN's "Louder Than Love" were laid down.

MÖTLEY CRÜE's NIKKI SIXX Says Relocating To Wyoming Has Been 'Great' For His Creativity

MÖTLEY CRÜE's NIKKI SIXX Says Relocating To Wyoming Has Been 'Great' For His Creativity

MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx says that relocating to Wyoming with his family has been "great" for his creativity.

For the past few weeks, Nikki has been posting photos on Instagram from the least populous U.S. state, where he has relocated with his wife Courtney and their one-year-old daughter Ruby.

On Monday (August 17), Sixx was a guest on SiriusXM's "Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk", where he discussed the recent passing of legendary UFO bassist Pete Way and described what it has been like to live away from Los Angeles for the first time in decades.

"We've moved up to Wyoming, and it's fantastic," he said. "It's great for the creativity. I feel like all kinds of ideas are just floating around the air. Kind of like Keith Richards said — he said he's never written a song; he just plays guitar all the time, and then the song just shows up. And that's kind of what it's like for me up here in Wyoming. I'm just writing, and stuff's turning into possibly a book and stuff's turning into songs. And you don't know where it's going, and that's really exciting."

He continued: "I feel like being back in Los Angeles, everything is about business: When is the deadline? When do the rehearsals start? When does the tour start? When? When? When? And I'm, like, that's great — I understand — but I kind of need to step back and just let some creative juices flow. I don't know. Maybe I don't have any more songs in me; maybe I do. [There's] only one way to find out, and that's to be in a place that's not so chaotic."

MÖTLEY CRÜE's "The Stadium Tour" with DEF LEPPARD, POISON and JOAN JETT & THE BLACKHEARTS " was originally scheduled to take place this summer but ended up being pushed back to 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic which is sweeping the globe.

On July 2, Sixx celebrated the 19th anniversary of his getting sober.

The 61-year-old MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist credited the 12-Step program with helping him live his life without drugs or alcohol.

Sixx struggled with substance abuse for years and was even supposedly declared clinically dead after a heroin overdose in 1987 made his heart stop for two minutes. He has since become actively involved in a recovery "program," which he credits for helping him transform his life and relationships.

3 DOORS DOWN's BRAD ARNOLD Releases Lyric Video For Debut Solo Single, 'Wicked Man'

3 DOORS DOWN's BRAD ARNOLD Releases Lyric Video For Debut Solo Single, 'Wicked Man'

3 DOORS DOWN frontman and celebrated songwriter Brad Arnold was preparing earlier this year to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the band's 2000 debut album, the certified seven-times RIAA platinum "The Better Life". But with the pandemic putting the Grammy Award-nominated Mississippi rock band's plans on hold, Brad has used the quarantine to write and record his first solo record, "Wicked Man". This powerful song was released last Friday (August 14) on his new Wild At Heart label. You can now watch the lyric video for the track below.

Brad was inspired to write "Wicked Man" about the times we are living in. With his instantly distinctive vocals, Brad unflinchingly sings: "They keep us entertained inside a world before our eyes/A never-ending circus to distract us from their lies." Read more about the song in the question-and-answer session below.

"Wicked Man" was recorded at Rivergate Studio in Hendersonville, Tennessee and produced by 3 DOORS DOWN drummer Greg Upchurch, who also wrote the music to the song.

"I hope people like the song," says Brad. "I hope they take something from it."

Arnold takes great pride in everything that 3 DOORS DOWN has achieved. Formed in 1996, the band has captivated audiences worldwide. Their many accolades include selling 20 million albums globally, receiving a Grammy nomination, two American Music Awards, and five BMI Pop Awards for songwriting, including "Songwriter Of The Year." The rocker's charitable arm, The Better Life Foundation (TBLF), has donated over $3 million dollars to veterans, children, women's and humanitarian relief efforts domestically and around the globe.

Back in January 2017, Arnold defended 3 DOORS DOWN's decision to perform at then-President-elect Donald Trump's "Make America Great Again! Welcome Celebration", saying that "it's all about America."

Q: What inspired you to write "Wicked Man" and release it as a solo song?

Brad: "The inspiration for the song has been the world around us. The recent events that have happened and are happening in our country are events that will shape the future. In so many of these events, it seems there must be 'someone behind the curtain.' I believe a lot of people agree with this. I think that people are tired of being lied to and manipulated and are beginning to see the pattern. This song just points out a few of the things that are dividing and shaping things. I hope it makes people realize that we truly are all in this together. It's everyone's future.

Q: Where did you record the song and who produced it?

Brad: "The song was recorded at Rivergate Studio in Hendersonville, Tennessee. The song was produced by Greg Upchurch, who is also the drummer for 3DD. Greg wrote the music to the song as well. He'd written a guitar riff and sent it to me a few months ago. I listened to it and liked the idea. It had the darker feel to it. I get licks in my head and eventually melodies and ideas start to form. In thinking about events of the days over the next few weeks, these are the lyrics that grew."

Q: Can you describe your life during quarantine?

Brad: "My life during quarantine has honestly not been dramatically different aside from completely not being on tour. Thankfully, I live on a farm where my wife and I have horses and land for ATVs, so I've stayed busy doing the things I normally do at home. I do realize what a blessing it is to have some room to move. I've never been much on sitting down and writing. I tend to write outside when I'm doing other things so it has been a good time for me to collect some thoughts. That's one main reason that I wanted to do this song as a solo project. I think that it will be great experience but it's also a chance for me to record some ideas that are me, but not as much for 3 DOORS DOWN. I hope people like the song. I hope they take something from it."

Watch Trailer For Ex-W.A.S.P. Guitarist CHRIS HOLMES's 'Mean Man' Documentary

Watch Trailer For Ex-W.A.S.P. Guitarist CHRIS HOLMES's 'Mean Man' Documentary

Cleopatra Entertainment has secured the North American, U.K., Australian, New Zealand and South African distribution rights to the documentary film "Mean Man: The Story Of Chris Holmes".

Written and directed by French filmmakers Antoine De Montremy and Laurent Hart (whose music production career includes televised interviews with SCORPIONS, DEEP PURPLE, SLAYER, GUNS N' ROSES and more), "Mean Man: The Story Of Chris Holmes" was a project that was born in 2014 after they had an opportunity to meet and direct Holmes in a music video for the Holmes-penned song "Let It Roar" in Cannes, France. At that time, the former W.A.S.P. guitarist had more or less disappeared from the music scene, leaving his home in the U.S. to seek a new beginning with his wife Sarah in France. Not content with merely directing a music video for the reborn Holmes, De Montremy pursued his bigger dream of writing and directing a documentary film about this iconic metal guitar legend, and for the next several years shadowed him throughout Europe while filming everything from band rehearsals, to recording sessions to live performances.

By creatively combining archival footage, interviews with past and present band members and musical peers, family members and childhood friends — interspersed with beautifully filmed concert performances of Holmes's current solo band — De Montremy skillfully portrays the story of an iconic guitar player who has lived a life of extreme highs and lows. After losing the publishing rights of his own songs and combatting dangerous addictions, the legendary W.A.S.P. guitarist is shown starting over from scratch while living at his mother-in-law's in Cannes, France as he puts together, with his wife, a brand new band and a brand new musical role as not only the main guitarist, but now as the actual lead singer of this newly born musical project aptly named MEAN MAN.

Says De Montremy: "Over the last five years, I've had the privilege to establish a true relationship with Chris Holmes and to follow him throughout Europe. I was impressed by his charisma, his approach towards life, his multiple experiences and taste for simplicity which have actually altered my own vision of existence. In fact, he has almost become a spiritual father to me, in the way that he inspired me in many of my own decisions."

Cleopatra Entertainment's plans for release include a stand-alone DVD Home Entertainment version and a Blu-ray version chock full of bonus goodies not available on the Digital VOD version which will follow the DVD and Blu-ray Release this November, just in time for the holidays. A U.S. West Coast theatrical premiere is being discussed as well, pending the revision and/or relaxation of the current local state government's restrictions on movie theaters operating during the COVID-19 pandemic.

ENTOMBED A.D. Singer LARS-GÖRAN PETROV Opens Up About Cancer Battle

ENTOMBED A.D. Singer LARS-GÖRAN PETROV Opens Up About Cancer Battle

Former ENTOMBED and current ENTOMBED A.D. singer Lars-Göran Petrov has opened up about his cancer diagnosis.

The Swedish musician is apparently battling cancer of the bile duct (also called cholangiocarcinoma), which is extremely rare. In most patients, the tumor cannot be completely removed by surgery and is incurable. Palliative measures such as resection, radiation therapy or stenting procedures may maintain adequate biliary drainage and allow for improved quality of life.

Asked by Metal Hammer how he found out about his cancer, Petrov said: "A couple of months ago. I felt a lump in my solar plexus. And I was, like, 'Okay, I'll ignore it.' But then it started to hurt, so I went to the doctor, and they X-rayed it quickly and said, 'You have to go to the specialist.' That was weird. You can't imagine what it feels like. Your whole body goes warm. It's, like, 'Fucking hell.'"

Although Petrov revealed his cancer is "incurable," he said that the doctors are "hoping" they will be able to treat it. "I will find out when I meet my doctor, who is the best doctor when it comes to this particular cancer," he explained. "Being young, the doctor said there's hopefully a way to control it so it doesn't spread, or maybe even make it smaller."

ENTOMBED A.D. was formed in 2014 when Petrov and other members of ENTOMBED decided to change the band's name in order to avoid a legal battle with ENTOMBED guitarist Alex Hellid who didn't want his former bandmates to use the ENTOMBED moniker.

ENTOMBED A.D.'s latest album, "Bowels Of Earth", was released in August 2019 via Century Media.

DEEP PURPLE's 'Whoosh!' Enters U.K. Chart At No. 4

DEEP PURPLE's 'Whoosh!' Enters U.K. Chart At No. 4

DEEP PURPLE's latest album, "Whoosh!", has entered the official U.K. chart at position No. 4. According to Billboard, it is the legendary rockers' 11th Top 10 effort and the band's highest-charting album since 1980's chart-topper "Deepest Purple". DEEP PURPLE's previous album, 2017's "Infinite", peaked at No. 6.

"Whoosh!" was released on August 7 via earMUSIC. The LP was once again helmed by Canadian producer Bob Ezrin (KISS, PINK FLOYD, ALICE COOPER), who also worked on the band's previous two studio LPs, "Infinite" and 2013's "Now What?!"

"Whoosh!" is available as limited CD+DVD mediabook (including the one-hour feature "Roger Glover And Bob Ezrin In Conversation" and, for the first time, the full live performance at Hellfest 2017 as video), 2LP+DVD edition, limited box set and digital.

Singer Ian Gillan told Fox News about what it feels like to be releasing a new album at this point in PURPLE's career: "It's nice, to be honest. I feel like we're back in the '70s. There's this energy that’s quite fascinating to me. How does it feel? It feels good because we had a lot of fun making this record. We spent five or six days in Germany earlier this year. Then we went to Nashville for two and a half weeks where we did the writing and arrangements. It was remarkably quick. Then I rented a cottage on the banks of the Cumberland River, overlooking the Grand Ole Opry. So I can hear the music floating from across the river until the early hours of the morning. And then I would sit up all through the night and write in this magical atmosphere. How do I feel? Pretty good. It's nice when you finish a project and you're happy with the result."

Asked what is was about Nashville that became a place of inspiration for him, Gillan said: "I have to be quite honest with you, but I just think the circumstances were good. Our producer, who's Canadian, lives in Nashville. And he has a place in Nashville where you have everything you need. It was a fantastic, relaxing environment to make a record. It was more from a practical point of view than an inspirational one."

Former ILL NIÑO Singer CRISTIAN MACHADO Releases 'Die Alone' Music Video

Former ILL NIÑO Singer CRISTIAN MACHADO Releases 'Die Alone' Music Video

Cristian Machado, former lead singer of Latin hard rock band ILL NIÑO, has premiered the video for his new single "Die Alone". Watch it below.

"Every video I've been in before, I'm headbanging and jumping around like a maniac," says Machado. "'Die Alone' is unlike any video I've ever made. It features me as a songwriter and musician, it includes some very close friends, and it's a dance of emotions. It's likely a different side of me some may be surprised existed all along."

The song, penned by Machado himself, will appear on the artist's debut solo album "Hollywood y Sycamore", due out September 25 on Chesky Records' sub-label Coconut Bay. Overall, the album finds Machado moving away from the guttural screams and screeching guitars that defined his previous work in favor of flexing his creative muscles and expressing his eclectic Latin influences through transcendent bilingual songwriting. "Die Alone" is also a departure from the single mic-style, live recording Chesky Records is known for, and combines elements of live recording with the added impact layering provides, all captured in digital high resolution.

"'Die Alone' is a song of hope for anyone faced with unimaginable challenges," Machado said. "Out of all suffering can evolve monolithic personal growth, and I seek comfort in that. If we let go of the painful past, we don't become the suffering. Shedding skin is sometimes the hardest part but it is why we're here — to love, to hurt, to feel, to adapt, and, most importantly, to evolve and not make the same mistakes we made in the past."

"Hollywood y Sycamore" includes completely new original songs, new arrangements of some previous ILL NIÑO songs ("How Can I Live", "Numb"), and covers from PINK FLOYD ("Welcome To The Machine"), LIFE OF AGONY ("Weeds"), and a spell-binding take on Post Malone's "Blame It On Me".

"Hollywood y Sycamore" track listing:

01. Say Hello Again

02. Die Alone

03. Better You Know

04. Blame It On Me

05. Bring You Home

06. Good Mother

07. Weeds

08. Pase Lo Que Pase

09. How Can I Live

10. Welcome To The Machine

11. Corazon En Un Cajon

12. Numb

This past March, Machado, lead guitarist Ahrue "Luster" Ilustre, rhythm guitarist Diego Verduzco, drummer Dave Chavarri and bassist Laz Pina announced that they "have reached a mutual, amicable and binding agreement" that will allow Chavarri and Pina to continue with ILL NIÑO while Machado, Verduzco and Ilustre will move on with new projects. According to a joint statement release by the five musicians, "No party has admitted fault and there has been no court judgment on the merits. The parties entered into a confidential settlement agreement."

Back in January 2019, Chavarri and Pina said that they had recruited vocalist Marcos Leal (SHATTERED SUN), lead guitarist Jes DeHoyos (SONS OF TEXAS) and rhythm guitarist Sal Dominguez (UPON A BURNING BODY) to be in their new incarnation of ILL NIÑO. The Chavarri-led ILL NIÑO also issued a new single, "Sangre". A day later, Machado, Ilustre and Verduzco dismissed reports that they had left ILL NIÑO and vowed to continue with their own version of the band. Two months later, the trio filed a lawsuit against Chavarri and Pina, accusing the drummer and bassist of failing to pay the band's tour rental company and engineers, slandering Machado by spreading rumors that he has a drug problem, collecting and spending the band's money without consulting in all of the members and refusing the members access to the group's financial records.

In a statement announcing the launch of his new version of ILL NIÑO, Chavarri said about the split with his former bandmates: "Being in a band is much like being married, and sometimes people grow apart, and no longer see eye to eye, and a separation becomes inevitable."

ANTHRAX Release Persistence Of Time 30th Anniversary, Episode #6: "Process"; Video

ANTHRAX Release Persistence Of Time 30th Anniversary, Episode #6: "Process"; Video

This Friday, the 30th anniversary deluxe edition of Anthrax's fifth studio album, Persistence Of Time, will be released. Episode Six of the Persistence Of Time Video Series, entitled "Process", can be seen below:

Watch previous episodes below.

Episode One: "Dali":

Episode Two: Public Enemy, "Bring The Noise":

Episode Three: "Iron Maiden":

Episode Four: "Married With Children":

Episode Five: "Tour Stories":

On August 21, 2020, 30 years to the day after its initial launch,  Anthrax will celebrate with the release of the deluxe anniversary edition of their fifth studio album, the Gold-certified Persistence Of Time, produced by Anthrax and Mark Dodson (Megaforce). Available exclusively on disc and vinyl, the CD package will include two CDs and one DVD, the vinyl edition offers four LPs, as well as revised cover art that reflects what had been the album's original visual concept. Pre-orders can be placed here.

As with Anthrax's previous anniversary deluxe editions, the band's Charlie Benante shepherded the one for Persistence Of Time. Disc One is comprised of the 11-track album, fully-remastered by Paul Logus (who mastered Anthrax's Worship Music and For All Kings. the Anthems EP, and the DVDs Kings Among Scotland and Chile on Hell). Disc One also features a special "bonus B-side" version of "I'm The Man" from 1990 that leans more hip-hop than rock, and a live version of "Time" that was recorded at Michigan's Palace of Auburn Hills in 1991. The final two songs on Disc One, as well as all nine tracks on Disc Two, are special recordings from "Charlie's Stash," an incomparable wealth of Anthrax music from the band's rehearsals, writing sessions, preproduction, and live performances that Benante has recorded over the past 40 years and has been kept safely filed away. These recordings will put listeners "in the room" with the band, privy to the evolution of the songs on Persistence Of Time starting with Benante's original riffs and demos for the songs, moving on to Frank Bello, Scott Ian, Joey Belladonna, Dan Spitz, and Benante shaping the songs in rehearsal, then into preproduction, and finally into the recording studio. Said Benante, "you'll hear parts of songs that never made it to the final recording or songs with an arrangement different from the finished song."

The 40-minute "guerilla-style" DVD was shot when Anthrax was on tour with Iron Maiden in 1991 and features live footage of Benante taking over the drums for Iron Maiden's Nick McBrain, as well as backstage and dressing room footage with members of both bands. The piece wraps with Benante, Bello, and Ian joining Iron Maiden on stage for the final song of the night, "Sanctuary."

Check out the first single/music video from album's 1990 release, "Got The Time":

With revealing liner notes written by Scott Ian that pull back the curtain on some of the incidents that fueled the album's lyrical content, the artwork showcases a selection of mementos from the Persistence Of Time cycle: script pages from the band's 1992 "My Dinner with Anthrax" episode of the TV sitcom "Married With Children," band photos and magazine covers, backstage passes, and an assortment of vintage promo items. Also, the deluxe package's cover art has been revised. Explained Benante, who also oversees all of Anthrax's artwork, "We had been a band for only about five years, but so much had been and continued to be crammed into those few years, and we realized we couldn't stop time, it was just persistent. Simultaneously, I was at the height of my Salvador Dali phase, I was just absorbed in his art, and I wanted to tie the two together - Salvador Dali and time. I loved what [artist] Don Brautigam did with the original cover, but for this deluxe edition, I wanted it the way I had originally seen the cover in my head - with the clock melting, so that's what we did."

"Recording the vocals for this album was a great experience," said vocalist Joey Belladonna. " I really liked working with Steve Thompson and Mark Barbiero, everything came together nicely, we all became good friends. And it was great to work in Manhattan again, especially at Electric Lady Studios. That place has such an aura, recording in the same place where Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, and Led Zeppelin did, it was a really cool experience."

"One of the things I'll never forget from the 'Persistence Of Time' tours," added Frank Bello, "was when we played the songs 'Time' and 'Got The Time' live. We had this big clock on our stage, the 'Persistence Of Time' clock, and the hands on this clock went around and around while we played the songs 'Time" and "Got The Time." Today, something like that would be motorized, but back in 1990, it had to be done manually using a hand crank on the back of the clock. My bass tech from that time, Troy, it was his job to keep those hands turning during those two songs, throughout the entire songs. I mean, what a workout that guy got from turning that crank."

"It was a weird time for us for a number of reasons," added Benante, "but at the same time, a lot of great things happened. We did 'Married with Children,' we toured with Slayer and Megadeth on the 'Clash of the Titans Tour," and we recorded 'Bring The Noise' with Public Enemy, and that turned everything around."

Watch DOWN Rehearse For Upcoming 'The Quarter Century ThrowDOWN' Livestreamed Event

Watch DOWN Rehearse For Upcoming 'The Quarter Century ThrowDOWN' Livestreamed Event

Video of DOWN rehearsing for its upcoming "The Quarter Century Throwdown" livestreamed event can be seen below.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of DOWN's 1995-released, now classic debut, "NOLA". Plans for select shows featuring vocalist Philip Anselmo, guitarists Pepper Keenan and Kirk Windstein, drummer Jimmy Bower and bassist Pat Bruders performing the record in its entirety were sidelined due to the global pandemic. In its wake, the band will take part in an exclusive livestream later this month.

Fittingly dubbed "The Quarter Century Throwdown", the high-production, multi-camera event will take place August 29 at 6:00 p.m. EST using cutting-edge streaming technology to create a one-of-a-kind virtual concert experience. The show will be rebroadcast August 30 at 6:00 p.m. EST until September 1 at 6:00 p.m. EST.

Comments the band: "DOWN was a simple band started by friends with a love of heavy music and the songs on the 'NOLA' album were magic from the first rehearsal. We're extremely grateful to be celebrating the 'NOLA' record with a live stream that the world can see. Watch the show and plug in through your loudest stereo! We love y'all!"

Your virtual ticket livestream tickets and packages are available at this location, with additional merch designs available here.

10% of ticket sales will be donated to the United Houma Nation (UHN), a state-recognized tribe of approximately 17,000 members residing within a six-parish (county) service area encompassing 4,570 square miles. The six parishes — Terrebonne, Lafourche, Jefferson, St. Mary, St. Bernard, and Plaquemines — are located along the Southeastern coast of Louisiana. Within this area, distinct tribal communities are situated among the interwoven bayous and canals where Houmas traditionally earned a living. Although by land and road these communities are distant, they were historically very close by water. However, boat travel is no longer a viable option due to the effects of coastal erosion, which has left these waterways either nonexistent or impassable and, in many cases, completely open water that requires larger vessels for safe travel. The tribe today is presented with the unique challenges of preserving and maintaining its culture and way of life when the land is disappearing. The United Houma Nation is committed and dedicated to doing exactly that. In addition, 10% of proceeds raised from a special, limited DOWN/United Houma Nation t-shirt will also be donated to the UHN.

A founding member of DOWN, Windstein left the band in 2013 in order to focus on CROWBAR and his family life. He was replaced by Bobby Landgraf, DOWN's former guitar tech who was previously in GAHDZILLA MOTOR COMPANY, a 1990s outfit also featuring Jason McMaster (DANGEROUS TOYS, WATCHTOWER), and HONKY.

Windstein announced his return to DOWN last year, with the band confirming a number of festival appearances for 2020 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of DOWN's debut album, "NOLA", all of which have since been canceled or postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic which is sweeping the globe.

Asked if DOWN has started work on new material, Kirk told Revolver: "There's actually been no talk of that. The main thing was trying to do the European festivals and Psycho Las Vegas [in Las Vegas]. Psycho Las Vegas was pushed back a year, and, obviously, the European festivals were all canceled. So I have no idea what's in the future. We're working on something really special here in the next few months that I'm excited about, and that's all I can really say. I'm super excited to get together with all the guys again."

DOWN was forced to cancel a number of shows in 2016 after Anselmo was filmed giving a Nazi salute and shouting "white power" at a California concert.

Keenan later offered his take on what transpired, telling Metal Wani that DOWN was "far from done" after the controversial incident. "You know, DOWN didn't do anything wrong," he said. "I mean, we were just guilty by association on that one. That was Phil's mistake. I've spoken to Phil and told him to get his shit together, and he is. He knows he made a mistake and was being stupid."

He continued: "I've known the guy [most of my life]. He's not what that whole thing framed him to be at all. But, yeah, there's definitely a future for DOWN. I wouldn't throw all the shit we've done, beautiful music we've done on one stupid moment that was caught on camera, and he apologized for. [So we are] far from done."

DOWN's last live appearance took place in August 2016 at the Psycho Las Vegas festival in Las Vegas.

ICED EARTH's JON SCHAFFER To Reunite With MATT BARLOW For Collection Of Christmas Classics

ICED EARTH's JON SCHAFFER To Reunite With MATT BARLOW For Collection Of Christmas Classics

ICED EARTH founder, songwriter, guitarist and producer Jon Schaffer has reunited with former ICED EARTH vocalist Matt Barlow to celebrate the holiday season as only they can! The duo returns as the SCHAFFER/BARLOW PROJECT and this time are putting their unique spin on five Christmas classics and two ICED EARTH songs.

"Winter Nights" was born out of a long-standing desire between Schaffer and Barlow to work together again. The idea to work on holiday songs was interesting to both guys. The EP features holiday classics like "Silent Night" and "Little Drummer Boy", as well as new interpretations of the ICED EARTH classics "Watching Over Me" and "I Died For You".

"Winter Nights" is available in numerous configurations on Kickstarter and every CD purchase comes with a second bonus 5.1 Surround Sound mix of the EP. The artwork was created by Sun Khamunaki. The SCHAFFER/BARLOW PROJECT plan to release all versions of the EP in time for the holiday season barring any delays due to recent global events. Regardless of the global situation, backers of the campaign will receive their album in 24-bit digital audio as a download on November 15.

Schaffer and Barlow's first collaborative recording since 2008 will feature the following songs:

01. We Three Kings

02. Silent Night

03. Do You Hear What I Hear?

04. Little Drummer Boy

05. I Died For You (Winter 2020)

06. Watching Over Me (Winter 2020)

07. Silent Night (Traditional)

In a video message announcing the project, Barlow said: "This is something that Jon and I had been talking about for many years. It just so happens that it's the right time. These are some Christmas classics that we've decided to do, and also add some reimaginings of some ICED EARTH songs in there with it. So it's really gonna be pretty damn cool, man."

Schaffer added: "The idea, for whatever reason, popped in my head, and I called Matt. And I was in the middle of another production, so we had this short window of time; we couldn't bring you, really, a full-length album at this moment. But if you guys are into the idea, we definitely would like to do more of this in the future. There's other classic songs that we can rework from our past and from holiday songs and new originals and whatever. So, basically, everything's on the table; we just wanna see if you guys are into where we're going with this. And as weird as this year has been, hopefully it will give you guys some hope. So it's gonna be really awesome.

"We're taking some classic big holiday songs and doing our thing with it — making it very theatrical and epic sounding, and heavy in some parts and spooky in others, beautiful," he continued. "We have two versions of 'Silent Night' — one more traditional and one very much something we would do, kind of what you would expect from us."

ICED EARTH played its final show with Barlow at the 2011 edition of the Wacken Open Air festival in Wacken, Germany.

Barlow announced his departure from ICED EARTH in March 2011. In a heartfelt statement, he cited his commitment to his family and the need for ICED EARTH to tour more as the reasons for his retirement; however, he committed to performing with ICED EARTH on all 2011 European festival dates, including Wacken Open Air.

Current ICED EARTH singer Stu Block (formerly of INTO ETERNITY) made his live debut with the band in November 2011.

ICED EARTH's latest album, "Incorruptible", came out in June 2017 via Century Media.

KORPIKLAANI And Filmmaker KIMMO KUUSNIEMI Join Forces For Made In Japan Tour Documentary; Now Available Via Video On Demand

KORPIKLAANI And Filmmaker KIMMO KUUSNIEMI Join Forces For Made In Japan Tour Documentary; Now Available Via Video On Demand

Finnish folk metal legends Korpiklaani and filmmaker Kimmo Kuusniemi teamed up for a trip to Japan in 2017. Here, three generations of Finnish Metal; Kimmo, one of the first Finnish metalheads, and Korpiklaani, a furious act of modern folk metal met with another Finnish legend, Kärtsy Hatakka and his band Waltari. The trip proved to be a series of intensive gigs and a journey into the open minds of Japanese metal fans, while on the side Korpiklaani’s shaman violinist Tuomas Rounakari and Kimmo wanted to make acquaintances with the ancient history of the land of the rising sun.

Tuomas: "The Finns and Japanese have a strange connection. We both appreciate silence more than most other cultures. Maybe it is due to the still lasting connection to the nature that is in the center of ancient beliefs of both cultures."

Kimmo: "In the past I have made some commercial films for Japanese markets but I had never visited before. Japan is a very interesting contradiction of industrial high tech in perfect harmony with the ancient traditions. In between the gigs me and Tuomas tried to see as much as we could of the old traditional side of Japan."

Tuomas: "We had a hilarious interview in Japan. We found out that most of our songs were very obscurely translated to Japanese, mostly in innuendo way. Apparently these curious titles were one aspect of our fame in the country."

The resulting documentaries are a rare peek into the on-the-road life of grown up men behaving as rockers on stage. But they are also a tribute to the international heavy metal fan family: wherever the bands go, they receive a warm and hearty welcome. The live footage shot by state-of-the-art technology, is enigmatic, and the behind-the-scenes material shows the band exploring local cultures, from the Siberian tundra to cherry orchards in Japan.

Kimmo: "One great thing of making these documentaries was that I met Tuomas. We are very like minded and we already are working on a new project called Sampo that combines music and myths. More about that soon."

The documentary is available as a Video On Demand stream here. Check out the Made In Japan homepage here.

Former KVELERTAK Frontman Launches New Band HJELVIK, Signs With Nuclear Blast

Former KVELERTAK Frontman Launches New Band HJELVIK, Signs With Nuclear Blast

Word has come down that ex-Kvelertak frontman, Erlend Hjelvik, has started a solo metal band Hjelvik and has signed with Nuclear Blast Records.

Jens Prueter, Head of A&R at Nuclear Blast Europe, has issued the following statement:

"It’s been 10 years ago when I first saw Erlend with Kvelertak in my hometown Dortmund in Germany.Their debut album was just out for a couple of months and on heavy rotation on my turntable. I was blown away by the raw energy of his stage performance and ten years later it is an honor to start working with him on Hjelvik. He has not lost the high energy and is bringing his unique mix of black metal, hardrock and punk to a new level. Welcome to Nuclear Blast and onward to Hel!”

Hjelvik will release his debut album, Welcome To Hel, later this year.

Hjelvik: "Signing with Nuclear Blast is a dream come true for me. Since I was a teenager, I've been a fan of classic NB bands like Immortal, Dimmu Borgir, In Flames and so on, so that makes me feel extra proud to call Nuclear Blast my new label home. I'm certain Nuclear Blast will do an awesome job bringing Hjelvik metal to the masses on my new album, Welcome to Hel, and many more to come."

Erlend Hjelvik describes his music as "blackened Viking heavy Metal" with lyrics based on Norse mythology and history. Stay tuned for more.

Hjelvik is:

Erlend Hjelvik – vocals, lyrics and songwriting
Rob Steinway – lead guitar
Remi André Nygård – rhythm guitar
Alexis Lieu – bass
Kevin Foley – drums

REALIZE Share “Slag Pile” Video

REALIZE Share “Slag Pile” Video

Arizona's Realize channels Godflesh, Nailbomb, and Meathook Seed with their sophomore full-length, Machine Violence, assembling an abrasive and hyper-aggressive take on industrial metal. The band, featuring Kyle Kennedy (Sex Prisoner), Matt Underwood (Sex Prisoner), and Matt Mutterperl (North, Languish), amalgamates crushing metal riffs with driving, yet often unorthodox industrial rhythms and dissonant noise. New video for "Slag Pile" is streaming below.

Machine Violence will be released via Relapse Records September 25 on CD, LP, and digital formats. Physical pre-orders are available here and digital downloads/streaming services here.

The pace of Machine Violence is unrelenting throughout. Realize tackles stark themes such as isolation, altered reality, simulations, and anxiety, taking inspiration from science fiction writers such as Phillip K. Dick and Frederik Pohl. Redefining "heavy," tracks such as "Disappear" and "Slag Pile" see the band unleashing menacing riffs against in-your-face, confrontational vocals, while "Alone Against Flames" and "Melted Base" thrash the listener straight away with faster tempos and a hardcore swagger.

Adhering to an old-school approach to writing and recording, Realize and Machine Violence reflect on the advancing convergence of organic life and machines. No amps or drums were used in the recording process; vocals, guitars, and bass all used computerized amps and effect modulations, and drums were programmed on an Alesis machine. With Machine Violence, Realize leaps forward and showcases industrial metal at its most ferocious and uncompromising.

Machine Violence tracklisting:

"Alone Against Flames"
"Melted Base"
"Ghost In The Void"
"Long Stare"
"Hypermech"
"Disappear"
"Simulated World Down"
"Slag Pile"
"Gateway Trial"
"Heavy Legs In The Mansion"

LUFEH Share New Video “End Of The Road”

LUFEH Share New Video “End Of The Road”

Releasing their debut album Luggage Falling Down this past April, Los Angeles' Lufeh (a band of both Brazilian and American musicians) have been sharing their blend of progressive rock injected with jazz styles, heavy metal foundations, and rhythmic Brazilian influences with a series of music videos for each individual track from the full-length.

Today, the band shares their next video that showcases their high energy and knack for performing with the track “End Of The Road”.

The band explains the song: "'End Of The Road' is upbeat, catchy, and thrilling. Bass and keyboard counterpoint lead beautifully into a jazzy classic rock verse and chorus, but are interrupted by moments of heavy metal and of introspective soul-searching.

Lufefh's new album Luggage Falling Down is available for stream and download on Bandcamp, Spotify, and Apple Music.

Germany’s SCORGED Reveal Debut Album Details

Germany’s SCORGED Reveal Debut Album Details

German extreme metal band, Scorged, have revealed the cover artwork and tracklist of their self-titled debut album, which will be released on September 25th, 2020 via El Puerto Records.

With ten songs and a total playing time of 44:53 minutes, they “ruffle and punch” ears, which are definitely used to harder things. It is to be hoped that the band will soon be able to show this live again.

Towards the end of the year 2016, the five-member formation rises out of pure animosity. Their music is based on a mixture of extreme metal subgenres and stands out with its bone-shaking aggressiveness and high-speed riffing combined with catchy groove parts. Every song has its own identity and great recognition value – not least because of the very intense and demonic vocals, a drilling guitar sound in addition to striking rhythms and ruthless drum fills. The lyrics deal with very personal experiences, social criticism as well as personal strength and they are performed with a great deal of authenticity and showmanship. It will be exciting to see where the journey is heading.

After 24 months of hard song writing, studio drudgery and a few concerts, an album is created which brings ten massive brutal songs and it is more than ready for the crowd. At the beginning of 2020 Scorged enter the port of the renowned record label El Puerto Records and look forward to future collaboration with the entire team.

Tracklisting:

“Vengeance”
“Black Crowned Enemy”
“Wasted”
“Hell Glows Hot”
“Surveillance”
“Oppressor”
“Malignant Psychosis”
“Deep Contempt”
“Integrity”
“Materialism”

CULT OF LILITH – “Purple Tide” Guitar, Bass Playthrough Videos Streaming

CULT OF LILITH – “Purple Tide” Guitar, Bass Playthrough Videos Streaming

On September 4, Iceland's Cult Of Lilith will release their debut full-length, Mara, via Metal Blade Records. A frantic collision of death metal, prog, complex classical structures and more, Mara is a restless, constantly shifting collection that is as imaginative as it is compulsive. The album can be pre-ordered here. A guitar and bass playthrough video of their most recent single, "Purple Tide", is streaming below.

A video for the new single, "Purple Tide" (directed by Dániel Puskás / Valhallartworks) featuring a guest keyboard solo by Lucy In Blue's Arnaldur Ingi Jónsson was recently released. The band has followed it up with a Making Of video clip, Check them both out below.

Cult Of Lilith's Mario Infantes Ávalos (vocals) comments: "'Purple Tide' is a hymn to justice. One that brings balance to our kind, gives rest to the afflicted, empowers them and beheads the tyrants. When justice fails, hope fades away in our hearts and leaves nothing but a thirst for vengeance. May all rapists meet the same fate as the wretched sailors in this video."

Founded in Reykjavik, Iceland in 2015 by guitarist Daniel Þór Hannesson as the sole member, he hired a session drummer and singer to create the Arkanum EP (2016), going on to put together a full band that was cemented in 2018 with the addition of vocalist Mario Infantes Ávalos. "Stylistically, Mara is way more diverse and refined than Arkanum, but still retains some of the essential ideas of composition. There was another vocalist at the time and since their styles are so different, it has made a big impact on the progression of the band. Mario has great range, so he fits very well with our diverse music. There is also a big difference in sound: Mara is much heavier, in your face and beefier than Arkanum, thanks to the amazing Dave Otero, who mixed and mastered the album."

Tracking was done at two studios: drums laid down at Dutch Ice Productions with renowned engineer Chris van der Valk (Hail of Bullets) with everything else recorded at guitarist Kristján Jóhann Júlíusson's Krummafótur Studio. "Tracking guitars was grueling, as it always is for this type of music. Both of our guitarists are perfectionists and achieving a perfect result requires going overboard with tracking until execution is flawless. The whole process was challenging and difficult, but that is kind of the whole point. It makes it more gratifying when it all comes together," says Júlíusson. The results speak for themselves, and open a thrilling new chapter for a band helping establish Iceland's place on the extreme metal map.

Mara tracklisting:

"Cosmic Maelstrom"
"Purple Tide"
"Enter the Mancubus"
"Atlas"
"Comatose"
"Profeta Paloma"
"Zángano"
"Le Soupir du Fantôme"

Recorded in its entirety on August 4, 2019 in São Paulo (Brazil) during the final show of Varathron's 30 Years Of Darkness Tour, the historic setlist boasts some of the band's finest compositions, from 1988 and beyond, most notably including the entirety of classic His Majesty At The Swamp from 1993, to most recent songs, taken from the acclaimed Patriarchs Of Evil album, which made it to an awful lot of year-end lists in 2018.

Varathron had this to say about its first live album since its 1988 inception: "During these weird and uncertain days we wish to all our friends, brothers, and sisters health and better days to come. In recent years we had the chance to meet wonderful people! We are happy to share with you some important news especially dedicated to you, our supporters and friends: we present to you our new - first time ever - live album! Glorification Under The Latin Moon was recorded in Sao Paulo, Brazil, the last show of our 2019 adventure in South America. The album includes a historic setlist with songs since 1988, our latest opus Patriarchs Of Evil and His Majesty At The Swamp in its entirety. The show was organized by our tour manager and friend Robson Calura and Storm Productions. Lots of thanks to every photographer, engineer and organizer who helped us create something truly special!”

The artwork that graces the cover was created by Juanjo Castellano. Achilleas Kalantzis mixed and mastered the album at Suncord Audiolab.

BENIGHTED Shares Brand New Single To Benefit French Concert Venue

French deathgrind masters Benighted have shared a brand new track and music video as part of a fundraiser campaign to benefit the Rock N'Eat concert venue in Lyon (FR). "Serve To Deserve" is now available for purchase on the band's special Bandcamp page. All proceeds will be donated to Rock N'Eat to help the venue keep their doors open during these times of financial turmoil.

Vocalist Julien Truchan comments: "We are very proud to unleash this very special track that we recorded to support our dear friends from the Rock N'Eat venue in Lyon! The owners of the venue are brothers who are part of the underground scene for more than 20 years and they have put all of their guts in this great venue where so many amazing bands already played like Aborted, Suffocation, Entombed, Der Weg Einer Freiheit, and many others! Of course because of Covid-19, things are very difficult for them and we want to do everything we can to help them because they FUCKING DESERVE IT! So please, my friends, we invite you to download this new brutal track and donate what you can to keep the underground alive!!! Thank you for this! Love you all!"
