RUSH's Geddy Lee has paid tribute to iconic bass player Pete Way. The founder of UFO, WAYSTED and, more recently, THE PETE WAY BAND died on Friday (August 14) at the age of 69. He sustained life-threatening injuries in an accident two months ago but fought hard until finally succumbing to those injuries. His wife, Jenny, was at his side.

On Saturday, Lee took to his Instagram to write: "Sad to read today about the passing of Pete Way ...

"I have so many fond and hilarious memories of touring with Pete and UFO back in the late 70's ...

"A true rock and roll character ...always 'takin' the piss' as they would say in his homeland ...

"I once asked him about his bass sound and he said, 'Well, Glee.. it's uh...3/4 good, and 1/4 ..not very nice!'

Way was a much-loved and highly regarded figure among rock fans, critics and fellow musicians alike. Best known for his work with UFO, Pete's energetic live performances were at the heart of the band's countless world tours. His melodic bass lines underpinned the catalog of enduring rock classics upon which UFO's reputation and legacy were founded. Pete's post-UFO work included collaborating with "Fast" Eddie Clarke from MOTÖRHEAD — the two putting together FASTWAY with HUMBLE PIE drummer Jerry Shirley — and playing bass for his longtime friend Ozzy Osbourne. He then put together his own band WAYSTED. Pete's keen ear for song arrangements have also seen him serve as producer for popular hard rock acts such as TWISTED SISTER and the COCKNEY REJECTS.

Pete had recently finished a solo album, "Walking On The Edge", with producer Mike Clink (GUNS N' ROSES' "Appetite For Destruction", among many more). He had a biography published, "A Fast Ride Out Of Here", in 2017, and an album, "Amphetamine", which is currently out on Cargo Records.

Way had dealt with a number of health issues in recent years. In 2016, he suffered a heart attack, two years after he was given the all-clear following a battle with prostate cancer with which he was diagnosed in 2013. Way was diagnosed during a routine check on his liver, which had been damaged over the years through hepatitis. The abdominal scan picked up the tumor on his prostate.

Pete is survived by two daughters, Zowie and Charlotte, and his younger brother, Neill.

Shavo Odadjian says that he is not giving up hope that SYSTEM OF A DOWN will one day record a follow-up to its "Mezmerize" and "Hypnotize" LPs, which came out in 2005. The Serj Tankian-fronted outfit has toured intermittently since ending its hiatus in 2011 but has yet to record any new music.

Odadjian, who recently unveiled his new band NORTH KINGSLEY, says that his outside projects are not meant to take away from his ability to focus on his main group.

"[NORTH KINGSLEY] is new and it's great and I can't wait to take it over the top, and my heart is in this because SYSTEM is not working," the bassist told Metal Hammer. "But my heart is always with SYSTEM as well.

"I'll take the time off and work with SYSTEM any time they're ready," he explained. "I have about 25 different things that I could still bring to SYSTEM. I know Daron's [Malakian, guitar] got tons of music. We are always writing music.

"I'm not closing the book on SYSTEM because I'm doing this. I know a lot of people are like, 'Oh no, it's the final guy, the one who was always SYSTEM OF A DOWN, always pushing for SYSTEM, the cheerleader — now he’s doing this.'

"Yeah, I'm doing my own thing because I need to," he added. "And when the time is right, I'll be doing that other thing. I'm not going to close any doors to anything ever."

In 2018, Malakian publicly accused Tankian of not wanting to record, with Tankian responding that creative and financial issues with Malakian led to the stalemate. In a message on Facebook, Tankian wrote that Malakian wanted to control SYSTEM's creative process, take more of the publishing money and be the only band member to speak to the press.

Back in May, Tankian revealed that he will put out a solo EP of what he described as "rock songs" later this year. Tankian told SPIN that they were first meant for SYSTEM OF A DOWN, saying: "Originally, I had these songs in mind for a SYSTEM record if we were to end up doing a SYSTEM record. But as we could not really see eye to eye on how to go forward with that, I decided to finish them off myself and release them as an EP."

Tankian said he's considering calling the EP "Elasticity", a play on SYSTEM's massive 2001 album "Toxicity".

MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer Tommy Lee has released the third single from his upcoming solo album, "Andro". Titled "Demon Bitches", this newest single is a collaboration with artists Brooke Candy and Moon Bounce. With lyrics that are NSFW, Tommy and Brooke explore a combination of themes, including the Devil in our everyday lives, sex, bad relationships, set to a beat that no doubt will be heard in clubs around the world.

Candy is a singer/rapper/stylist and the daughter of Hustler magazine CFO Tom Candy. She takes a no-holds-barred approach in expressing herself, no better illustrated than in this collaboration with Tommy. Highly sexualized lyrics have been a calling card for Brooke, whose in-your-face, lightning-quick rap is front and center on "Demon Bitches", complementing the theme of "Andro".

The lyric video for the track is a largely female affair — directed by Melissa Ladybug, the video simulates a horror film credit sequence. The intro to the lyric section is the end of a horror film taken from a 2018 short called "Night Terrorizer", written by and starring Pandie Suicide. As edgy as the song itself, the video packs quite a punch.

Also joining in on "Demon Bitches" is Moon Bounce, the mutant-pop alias of producer, songwriter, and vocalist Corey Regensburg. Taking cues from dance music, R&B, and even the rhythmic lurch of metal, his output combines soulful melodies with jilted percussion, obtuse rhythms, helium-soaked vocals and larger-than-life production with a hyper-controlled synthesis.

"Demon Bitches" comes on the heels of Tommy's most recent collaboration with Post Malone and Tyla Yaweh. After Yahweh and Malone released their song "Tommy Lee", Tommy himself joined them by remixing the song. Tommy's remix made the track into an energetic rocker, with additional help from his friend John 5 on guitars and his son and co-producer Dylan Lee (a musician and producer in his own right). Yahweh, Lee and John 5 performed the remix live on ESPN House's NBA Pre-Show on August 3 to kick off the 2020 NBA season.

Tommy has been looking forward to fans hearing more from "Andro", which is due on October 16.

"It's frustrating to let people hear a song or two at a time," Lee told Alternative Press. "I'm like, "Fuck. I want to see it come out already! There's so much badass shit on the record. It's a killer record. I'm really proud of it."

The first two singles from the collection, "Knock Me Down" and "Tops" were released in early June to critical acclaim and fan excitement. Lee's new single is the next step in the theme of "Andro" being the male and female sides of music, equal in power and status. Androgyny is a combination of the essences of male and female genders and the album is the manifestation of the concept.

The longtime MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer has just spent the last two years writing and recording his new album and it is about to challenge virtually everything you thought you knew about him and his musical proclivities.

Other features on the record include a Prince cover from Lukas Rossi (ROCKSTAR SUPERNOVA), Josh Todd (BUCKCHERRY), Mickey Avalon and more.

STEEL PANTHER drummer Stix Zadinia has poked fun at Nikki Sixx's claim that he doesn't get the credit that he deserves as a bass player.

Earlier this week, the MÖTLEY CRÜE rocker was asked by a fan on Twitter to name "the most underrated bass player ever." Sixx replied simply: "Me".

After BLABBERMOUTH.NET picked up Sixx's comment and published an article about it, Stix tweeted a link to the story and wrote: "Yeah. Right. WAY more underrated than Geddy Lee, Eddie Jackson, and Skid from LOVE/HATE.......shall I go on? "

He then clarified: "That's sarcasm."

Last year, a war of words between STEEL PANTHER and MÖTLEY CRÜE broke out when Zadinia and STEEL PANTHER singer Michael Starr and were asked in an interview which musician from the past they would like to bring back. Starr replied, "I'd bring back Vince Neil," and Zadinia chimed in, "He's not dead." Starr pressed on, saying: "I'd bring back Vince Neil from back in the day because that guy is dead."

After news of STEEL PANTHER's comments made the rounds, Sixx tweeted: "The singer in Steal Panther [sic] can go fuck himself … wanna-be band putting down Vince Neil?" One fan then pointed out that STEEL PANTHER sometimes plays MÖTLEY CRÜE songs during its concerts, to which Sixx replied, "That's why they are assholes. Backstabbers."

This was not the first time members of STEEL PANTHER and MÖTLEY CRÜE had traded barbs. In 2017, Zadinia said that his band "really felt unwelcome" during its tour with MÖTLEY CRÜE several years ago. The drummer, whose real name is Darren Leader, told Music Life Magazine: "[MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer] Tommy Lee and Nikki Sixx did not like it when we went on tour with them in 2011. And that was the only time that we really felt unwelcome. The thing with those guys is I think they thought we were actually making fun of them directly. And I just gotta chalk that up to their egos being too big, because nothing that we do has anything to do with them directly. But we ended up doing the tour and it went off great and everything was totally fine."

Sixx told Australia's Music Feeds in 2016 that he didn't care for STEEL PANTHER's music. "You know, it's not my thing," he said. "That's just me personally. I don't know. It doesn't feel… I guess a lot of people think it's funny and they're kind of a joke band and that's cool. But that's not my cup of tea. I kind of take my music a little more seriously."

Back in June 2015, Starr revealed in an interview that Lee "was pretty upset over the fact we poked fun at Vince Neil. He didn't like it. He just thinks we're just a joke, like a stupid joke band that shouldn't be playing with them. But all their fans like us."

Starr added that members of MÖTLEY CRÜE simply "take themselves a little too serious," except for Vince Neil, who "totally loves it."

"You know, he told me, 'Hey, Michael, when we retire, you can have all our fans,'" Starr said.

QUIET RIOT's Frankie Banali is recovering at home after recently suffering a stroke.

Banali, who has been battling stage IV pancreatic cancer for the past 16 months, offered an update on his health status in a social media post earlier tonight (Friday, August 14). He wrote: "Update: I spent the last three weeks in the hospital. Home now. Had two blood transfusions. I also had a stroke while there. I am rehabbing at home. Thank you for your concern and well wishes."

Banali was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in April 2019 after going to the emergency room for shortness of breath, leg pain and loss of energy. A scan of his lungs caught an image of his liver, which is where the first spots were seen. Then came the discovery of a tumor on his pancreas.

He has been in treatment since the spring of last year and recently completed his 21st round of chemotherapy with the hopes of shrinking or controlling the cancer.

In early June, Banali told SiriusXM's "Trunk Nation" about his cancer battle: "I'm still fighting the good fight. I'm still doing the chemotherapy. I switched to a different chemotherapy a few months ago. And the side effects on this one are pretty brutal, and they pretty much last into the next round of chemo. So you kind of don't get a break for about three weeks, and then you get about maybe 10 days off, and then the cycle starts again. But it's part of what I'm doing."

Asked if doctors are seeing positive results from the chemotherapy, Banali replied: "It really depends on any given cycle, whether things are going up or whether things are reducing. The situation that I'm in is not a sprint, really — it is the longest race I can possibly make out of my situation. So you have to be really, really careful how you read into some of these things, because something can look elevated, but then if you look at a scan — one of my internal scans — it's not as bad as the numbers say. But it's a deadly disease — there's no question about it — and I know that that's what eventually is gonna kill me. In the meantime, I'm just trying to put that day off as far back as I possibly can."

Banali also talked about how his latest chemotherapy sessions caused him to lose his trademark hair. He said: "I knew that when we were switching from the first chemo formula that we were doing for almost a year to the new chemo formula, I knew in advance that the different formula was really gonna wipe out the hair. So right now you probably wouldn't recognize me because not only did it take all the hair on the top of my head, but it took my beard, my eyebrows, my eyelashes. Let me put it to you this way: I have just really improved my Olympic swimming chances with the loss of body hair."

Banali went public with his diagnosis last October, writing in a social media post that the cancer treatment had forced him to miss several live shows with the band. He was replaced at those gigs by either Johnny Kelly (DANZIG, TYPE O NEGATIVE) or Mike Dupke (W.A.S.P.), depending on each musician's availability.

QUIET RIOT's shows last year with Kelly and Dupke marked the first time ever that the band performed without any of the members from its classic lineup: Banali, singer Kevin DuBrow, guitarist Carlos Cavazo and bassist Rudy Sarzo.

Banali played his first show with QUIET RIOT since he announced his cancer diagnosis in October at the Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood, California.

The drummer resurrected QUIET RIOT in 2010, three years after the death of founding member DuBrow.

This event marked Dirty Honey's first-ever performance at The Viper Room, an intimate venue that has presented shows by Johnny Cash, Bruce Springsteen, Courtney Love and Hole, Green Day, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and The Black Crowes. NO JOY, the project of Jasamine White-Gluz, sister of ARCH ENEMY frontwoman Alissa White-Gluz, will release its first full-length album in five years, "Motherhood", on August 21 via Joyful Noise and on Hand Drawn Dracula in Canada.

The official music video for the disc's new single, "Dream Rats", featuring a guest appearance by Alissa, will make its online debut this week. The song manages to cram synth choir, blast beats, cowboy leads, and signal-jammed shredding into a radio-friendly three and a half minutes.

Alissa stated about her collaboration with her sister: "We are very different in terms of personality and style but somehow ended up in parallel paths! Her music is shoegaze... a foreign world for me... but I see the level of attention to detail in her work and I love it!

"I don't know how it took our ENTIRE LIVES to collaborate (other than our childhood projects) but we finally did it! You'll all see it next week!"

NO JOY's relentless sonic permutations are evidence of frontperson and principal songwriter Jasamine White-Gluz's insatiable desire to grow. The Montréal-based project began a decade ago as e-mail-traded riffs; subsequent albums showcased a penchant for delay-saturated jangle, industrial distortion, and sludgey drones over disco beats. Jasamine, feeling too reliant on her primary instrument, ditched the guitars and detoured to modular electronica for a 2018 EP composed with Sonic Boom (SPACEMEN 3's Pete Kember).

For NO JOY's first full length in five years, Jasamine took what she learned from synthesis, reincorporated guitars, and produced an album that is not a departure from NO JOY's early shoegaze, but a stylistically omnivorous expansion that ekes into trip hop, trance and nu-metal. "Motherhood" is the culmination of years composing outside of her comfort zone, and a return to DIY recording with a leveled-up expertise in production. Touring with genre-divergent artists has honed the band's comfortably multifarious sound; NO JOY picked up post-hardcore fans on the road with QUICKSAND, and ambient techno fans on gigs with BATHS.

"As long as people are open minded about music, they can hear different things," explains Jasamine. "Maybe because there are a lot of layers."

Collaborative, exploratory fun hallmarks NO JOY's discography, and "Motherhood" is no exception. Jorge Elbrecht (ARIEL PINK, SKY FERREIRA, JAPANESE BREAKFAST) returns in his role as co-producer and multi-instrumentalist. The band's touring sound engineer Madeleine Campbell, who authors the Women In Sound zine, came on as engineer alongside Chris Walla (DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE). Drummer Jamie Thompson (ISLANDS, ESMERINE) translated rhythmic ideas into hard-hitting performance, and brought in drum machines of his own. Frenetic shredder Tara McLeod (KITTIE) makes her NO JOY recorded debut, contributing not only guitars but banjos. Somehow plastic clarinet, scrap metal, skits, bongos and an EMS Putney made the mix. Songs went from laptop demos to labyrinthine recordings, tracked primarily at fellow Montrealers BRAIDS' Studio Toute Garnie. Jasamine laid down the vocals at home, which allowed for experimentation with ethereal harmonies and shrouded ad libs.

Jasamine hadn't read Sheila Heti's "Motherhood" when she wrote and titled this record, but when she did, the narrative parallels between the two projects were "like looking into a mirror." "Will I regret not opening my insides out?" she sings on "Primal Curse", during which she reads an optimistic letter her mom wrote as a teenager to her future kids. "Time is critical, and you have to make decisions that are extremely time sensitive and your body doesn't care," she explains."It's a lot of seeing myself through my mother's experiences, and the physicalness of a body getting older." The album also investigates the implications of her parents' aging on her role as their child, as on the DJ-scratching wah groover "Four".

Heti's book's central conceit is an open-ended pondering of whether dedication to writing is more significant than the desire to have children. NO JOY doesn't definitively answer this existential quagmire, either — how could anyone? Instead, "Motherhood" is a beautifully dense exploration that proves how thoughtful, thorough music can translate into art that is rich, vast and alive.

In a recent interview with "Pollstar Live! Digital Session", guitarist Matthias Jabs ruled out the possibility of SCORPIONS playing drive-in concerts in the future.

"The SCORPIONS aren't [interested in playing] those — how do you call it? The car, movie-theater type of shows," he said (see video below). "It doesn't have any atmosphere, I don't think, for the audience, and especially not for the bands. You need to be able to communicate with the audience, and that's the same thing if you do, like, livestreamed shows in someone's studio without an audience. It gives people something to watch, but for the artist, especially for a band like the SCORPIONS [which] loves to communicate with the audience. What are you gonna do? You can maybe hold that energy level for the first two, three songs, but what will you do after one hour? There's nobody to play to, nobody to talk to and nobody who can sing along with you, and I don't think that feels right. I think it's not really an option for us."

According to Jabs, there are no plans for the SCORPIONS to perform live again before next spring at the earliest.

"We know that Plan A might be that we play our [Las] Vegas residency, which was planned for July of this year, next year in May. But who knows if it's gonna happen. So we don't have a Plan B. Let's say it takes even more time to find a vaccination, because that's basically the key to go back to a normal life and have the entertainment business start again. And that's the only way. Because who wants to go to a show — I saw pictures the other day where the musicians had a bubble around their head and so did the audience, a few people. I mean, that is crap. It's not what we wanna do. So we'd rather wait it out and then start it the proper way again."

Doro Pesch played her first two drive-in concert in Germany in June while complying with the country's social distancing regulations amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Live Nation CEO Michael Rapino recently told investors on a quarterly earnings call that the company would experiment with drive-in shows this summer.

The first Live Nation drive-in concert was held in May in Denmark, with 600 cars in attendance.

The Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten said the crowds were respectful of distancing regulations and there were no notable incidents at the event, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Last week, a new U.K. pop-up venue, the Virgin Money Unity Arena, was launched, with some 2,500 fans gathering at the outdoor venue for what organizers described as the country's first socially distanced concert.

In a new interview with "The Chuck Shute Podcast", BULLETBOYS vocalist Marq Torien confirmed that he auditioned for the singer position in MÖTLEY CRÜE following the departure of original frontman Vince Neil in 1992. He said: "I'm very close with MÖTLEY, and I love them to death still. We don't get to see each other very often, but I love them with all my heart. I still text Tommy [Lee, drums] all the time, talking back and forth every once in a while.

"But, yeah, there was a time where they were having trouble with Vince," he continued. "I have mad respect for Vince — Vince is a friend of mine and I love him dearly. Nikki [Sixx, bass] called me in to talk about singing in the band. We worked together a little bit. We wrote a couple pieces, a couple of ballady type of things.

"It was just hard," he added. "I really wanted to help my friends, but I didn't wanna leave my band. And we [BULLETBOYS] were coming up to the apex of our popularity, and Nikki was just, like, 'You know, Marq. We're so close, I don't think this is gonna work. We've known each other for so long… We're gonna find somebody… But can you do me a favor? Can you hook me up with with the singer from THE SCREAM? The guys that you had opening up for you on the 'Freakshow' tour. 'Oh, yeah. Johnny. 'Yeah, I love that guy; he's great. He's a great singer.'"

Marq went on to say that he had a hand in getting John Corabi into MÖTLEY CRÜE.

"I just gotta be honest with you, and John will probably I tell the same story, I discovered John Corabi at Gazzarri's when he was playing in a band called ROXANNE," he said. "And I stumbled out of a limo, a limousine, completely drunk and high, and walked in and heard this guy, I saw this guy sing, and I couldn't bloody believe it. He was just amazing. My friends of mine from THE SCREAM, Bruce Bouillet and Johnny, John Alderete, were looking for a singer. So I found this guy, we became friends. I was just, like, 'Hey, listen, I think I have a band for you to play in, but you're gonna have to leave this band…' I love Johnny to death. So I was able to talk to them get John and [John Alderete] on the phone, and they hit it off and he joined THE SCREAM."

Regarding how Corabi ended up in MÖTLEY CRÜE, Torien said: "Nikki loved THE SCREAM record and loved Johnny's voice and his writing. And that eventually put him into MÖTLEY. That [self-titled MÖTLEY CRÜE] record is incredible with him. I know it's a different path for MÖTLEY, but they worked so hard on it. I was privileged to hear some of the roughs in the beginning — John was playing it for me — and it was just incredible. We were just sitting in the car. We were grabbing each other's legs, you know? 'Can you fucking believe it? Oh, my God! Dude, this is incredible!'

"When something's magical, as a musician, as a writer… you get to that point where the excitement is, like, 'Yeah!' I'm still like that. So, at that time, I was just so proud of him.

"I could never join MÖTLEY, because there's only one singer for MÖTLEY CRÜE, in my opinion, which is Vince Neil," Marq explained. "Vince Neil is the voice of MÖTLEY CRÜE. He's a legend, a star and my brother, so it wasn't something that I thought that I could really go and [do]. Nikki was already ahead of the game. He was, like, 'Man, we tried it. I love you, but kick ass in the band.'

"But, yeah, that's pretty much it as far as [what] my recollection of the whole situation was."

With Corabi on vocals, MÖTLEY CRÜE released one critically acclaimed full-length CD, which ended up being a commercial failure in the wake of grunge despite a Top 10 placing on the album chart. When Neil returned to the fold in 1997, Corabi was left on his own and formed the band UNION with ex-KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick.

The original BULLETBOYS lineup made its live return last December with a sold-out performance at the Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood, California.

Aside from one show in 2011, BULLETBOYS — featuring Torien, Jimmy D'Anda (drums), Mick Sweda (guitar) and Lonnie Vencent (bass) — had not performed together since 1993.

In a new interview with Australia's Heavy, DEEP PURPLE bassist Roger Glover spoke about the decline of the music industry as consumers value access over ownership and experiences over assets.

"Back in the heyday or vinyl music, in the '60s and '70s, there was only two things important — one was music and the other was sport," he said (hear audio below). "And they became very important because they were the only ways for people to escape poverty, for example. You could become a musician or a sportsman and there's was the hope you could rise above yourself and get successful. But since then, technology has leapt forward to the point where music is just one of many distractions. And it's become less important. I mean, music, back in the '50s and '60s, it was almost like a religion — people followed you. And now it doesn't happen quite like that. It's all about celebrity and fast achievements and fame, and all of those things, actually, don't interest us. We were always just interested in the music. We're old hat like that, I guess."

Glover also touched upon the resurgence of vinyl records in recent years, with vinyl sales reportedly accounting for more than a third of the revenue coming from physical releases.

"Well, all I know is in the last few years of touring, I've signed more albums than I've signed CDs," he said. "And I think holding something in your hand, it gives you a thrill that no amount of streaming or downloading can give you. It's physical. And maybe that'll go [away] — in a hundred years' time, maybe nothing like this will exist. We'll be looking at it like Edison's inventions and the Victrola era at the turn of the century — of the last century; not this one. So it will be viewed like that. But for right now, we've still got it and value it. It's great."

DEEP PURPLE's new album, "Whoosh!", was released on August 7 via earMUSIC. The LP was once again helmed by Canadian producer Bob Ezrin (KISS, PINK FLOYD, ALICE COOPER), who also worked on the band's previous two studio LPs, 2017's "Infinite" and 2013's "Now What?!"

METALLICA's James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich still look back fondly on their collaboration with pop superstar Lady Gaga at the 2017 Grammy Awards.

"I just respect her as an artist," Hetfield said during an appearance Wednesday (August 12) on "The Howard Stern Show". "She was there for two hours before we even got there, working on her moves and thinking stuff up. She is extremely creative and a fearless artist."

Ulrich added: "Lady Gaga, in particular, she loves metal. She was telling me that 'Metal Militia', which is this deep cut on our first album 'Kill 'Em All', was her favorite song back in the day."

METALLICA's appearance with Gaga at the 59th annual event in Los Angeles turned into something of a disaster when the Grammy sound crew did not turn Hetfield's mic on, forcing him to share the mic with Gaga after the first verse and chorus of "Moth Into Flame".

As a further humiliation, presenter Laverne Cox did not even introduce METALLICA by name. At the end of the song, a visibly angry Hetfield hurled his guitar at a road crew member while kicking over his mic stand.

James later told New York Post about the microphone malfunction: "I felt embarrassed. I haven't been that angry in a long time. When something out of my control goes wrong, I still get wound up. I'm sure it taps into other stuff from my past, but I felt helpless. It ended up being a blessing because I ended up singing in a microphone with Lady Gaga — maybe even more than she wanted. It felt more like a real collaboration because of that."

Hetfield told the Chilean newspaper La Tercera that he wasn't interested in collaborating with Lady Gaga again or another pop artist in some capacity. But, he said, "Even just talking with her, being around her, her energy was very, very exciting. She has lots of ideas, and she likes to push the boundaries like we do. So it was a good fit."

Shortly after the 2017 Grammy Awards, Ulrich told Rolling Stone that Gaga was the "quintessential perfect fifth member of [METALLICA]," saying, "Her voice, her attitude, her outlook on everything is so awesome. [The performance] was so effortless and organic and she just has the spirit of hard rock and metal flowing through her veins. It comes really easy for her. There's nothing contrived; she just has this super warm, easy energy."

METALLICA was up for a Grammy in 2017 for "Best Rock Song" for the track "Hardwired" from its latest album, "Hardwired... To Self-Destruct", but lost to the late David Bowie's "Blackstar".

Lita Ford spoke to Marci Wiser of the 95.5 KLOS radio station about the progress of the recording sessions for her long-awaited new solo album. The follow-up to 2012's "Living Like A Runaway" is once again being helmed by guitarist/producer Gary Hoey, who contributes some guitar playing to the disc, alongside the rest of Ford's backing band, which continues to consist of guitarist Patrick Kennison, drummer Bobby Rock and bassist Marty O'Brien.

"We're going in to cut drum tracks on August the 26th," Lita said (hear audio below). "And we've got 11 drum tracks. We're gonna go in with Bobby Rock and sound engineer George Marshall. We're gonna just finish up these 11 tracks that we have waiting in the wings to hopefully finish doing the drums, mixing, mastering. It's a real badass record, and I'm just chomping at the bit for everybody to hear it; I can hardly stand it."

Last year, Lita told The Metal Voice that her new album will include a song called "Monsters", which was inspired by infamous cult leaders like Charles Manson and David Koresh. "It's just really dark and nasty stuff — brainwashing people and all the stuff [Koresh] did, and got all those people to drink Kool-Aid," she said. "But then again, it could be someone like your attorney, or it could be someone like your mom who is the monster in your life. It could be your manager. You never know who the monster in your life is gonna turn out to be."

Ford's last release was 2016's "Time Capsule", a collection of songs that were recorded by Lita in the past, but never before made available.

Four years ago, Lita released an autobiography, "Living Like A Runaway: A Memoir", via Dey Street Books (formerly It Books), an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers.

Nikki Sixx says that he doesn't get the credit that he deserves as a bass player.

The MÖTLEY CRÜE rocker addressed his standing on the list of low-end masters who seem to fall through the cracks of too many bass conversations while answering questions on Twitter.

Asked by one follower to name "the most underrated bass player ever," Sixx replied simply: "Me".

In a 2015 interview with For Bass Players Only, Sixx said that he was "drawn to the simplicity" of a bass guitar as a songwriter. "I love basically writing in the simplest form, and then I figure out what that means — 'Is this a ballad? Is this a pop song? Is this a heavy metal song?'" he explained. "A lot of time some of our songs, our heavier songs, I'll play them acoustically when I'm writing and really make sure that the melody line is really worked out, just acoustically and then get into the rough 'n' tumble of it. But a song has to be hummable and memorable at it simplest form, and that's what bass does for me. I feel like the glue to everything."

Asked where he finds your spot within what guitarist Mick Mars and drummer Tommy Lee are doing in MÖTLEY CRÜE, Nikki said: "I feel my spot is somewhere between a bass player and a rhythm guitar player. I play with a pick. I play very aggressively. I always have a distortion pedal in line, and I play less melodies and do more stuff against the guitars that create melodies. Song is king for me, so as long as the song is soaring, I'm in my pocket, and then I figure out what I can do to make the song better. In a song like 'Too Young To Fall In Love', for example, the bass moves from the A to the G to the F, and then towards the end it does the A to the B to the C and it walks up — the same melody line but we just kind of wrap it around a different way. It's those simple little things that are what people remember."

MÖTLEY CRÜE's "The Stadium Tour" with DEF LEPPARD, POISON and JOAN JETT & THE BLACKHEARTS " was originally scheduled to take place this summer but ended up being pushed back to 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic which is sweeping the globe.

Along with Bob Daisley and The Hoochie Coochie Men, Jimmy Barnes jumped up on stage for a jam - they created this tune which they called the “12 Bar Blow Jam”.

As part of her "One-Minute Jam" video series on YouTube, EVANESCENCE guitarist Jen Majura has teamed up with IRON MAIDEN drummer Nicko McBrain and WHITESNAKE guitarist Joel Hoekstra to record a cover version of "Live And Let Die", originally written by Sir Paul McCartney for the 1973 James Bond film of the same name, and performed by WINGS.

In a statement accompanying the release of the video, Majura wrote: "Please give it up for this week's phenomenal 1min jammers: IRON MAIDEN's very own Nicko McBrain on drums and WHITESNAKE's Joel Hoekstra on guitar! We gathered digitally to jam the ultimate '73 classic 'Live and let die' for you - hope you'll enjoy!"

Majura has released two solo albums thus far, 2014's "Jen Majura' and 2017's "InZENity".

In an interview with Metal Temple, Majura stated about her songwriting approach on "InZENity": "For 'InZENity', I swore to myself to make no compromises at all, which is the major difference [between the two albums]. 'Cause with my first album I tried to sound like I want to sound as well as I thought how people would expect me to sound. Horrible idea. When I made the decision to finally record the songs for 'InZENity', things were different. No one could tell [me] what I can do or what I cannot do. One instrumental track, an acoustic track and crazy prog hard rock with jazz as well as metal elements… Not possible? Possible, and 'InZENity' is the evidence."

This past Friday, EVANESCENCE released a new single called "Use My Voice" via Sony. The song follows "Wasted On You" and "The Game Is Over" as the third track to be released from "The Bitter Truth", EVANESCENCE's forthcoming album, and its first containing all-new material in nearly a decade.

Helix recently released the Eat Sleep Rock CD on Perris Records, a compilation album with some of singer Brian Vollmer’s personal favorite songs recorded since leaving Captiol/EMI in 1990. The album was recorded at bassist Darryl Gray's own Dawghouse Studios, mixed by Siegfried Meier and mastered by Harry Hess (Harem Scarem). The artwork was done by ex-Helix guitarist Brent Doerner with photos by Victor Azziz Studios. "Brent is a very creative guy," states Vollmer. When he was in the band writing songs, he was with us for I think 16 or 18 years. I've always found him as a person who thought outside the box when it came to creativity so it's great still having him involved with Helix projects. He's like a 6th member."

Eat Sleep Rock adds the new track "Eat Sleep Rock" and includes "The Story Of Helix," a rap that Brian wrote a couple of years ago to kick off the acoustic show. "Eat Sleep Rock" is the first to feature new Helix guitarist Gary Borden, a veteran of the Canadian music scene who has played with Sass Jordan, Toronto and The Guess Who, worked with Gowan, and fronts his own original act Blood Of VanGogh. Brian continues, "Kaleb left last year, he was a solid member for over 10 years and he is still involved with the band writing for the next studio album. Gary is a great guy and he fits right in. It's great having guys with personalities like Gary and Chris (Julke, guitarist) to bring you up as it's tough when you are out there doing it all weekend long, travelling, playing, getting up early and flying. I got a great bunch of guys behind me."

Primitive Man return after three years with the extreme, terrifying, and confrontational new album, Immersion, out now via Relapse Records. A music video for the song "Consumption",  can be seen below.

True to the band's ethos, every moment of Immersion is overwhelming; from the sonic pummelling of the album opener "The Lifer" to the brooding, unnerving guitars whirring throughout "Entity", Immersion builds and builds. The tension throughout the record is palpable. Hair raising tracks such as "Menacing" push and pull constantly, shifting from passages of harsh doom to an endless corridor of horrid screaming, blast beats, and a formidable low end.

Adding to the album's darkness, a pervasive lyrical anxiety erodes throughout the record. A stark look at a mirror, Immersion's themes tackle sobering views on existential crises, a general distrust among another, and the current state of the world. Frontman Ethan McCarthy elaborates, "Souring your view on your existence and everything you had worked towards... allowing yourself to become possessed by the darkest parts of your mind that you have carried around your entire life and not dealt with."

True to these dark times, Primitive Man's Immersion is an introspective look into ruin and undoing. As McCarthy explains, Immersion dives into the point of no return. "Now you're a grown man and you're fucked."

Pallbearer, who are set to release their fourth album, Forgotten Days on October 23 via Nuclear Blast, have released a second track from the nine-song album: “Rite Of Passage”. Pre-order here.

“’Rite Of Passage’ is both a reflection and a confessional,” explains bass player/songwriter Joseph Rowland. “The toll that loss has taken on my life often finds ways to remind me that I may never feel whole, and the song’s purpose is to express and embody that emptiness. It felt totally appropriate to wrap it in reimagined trappings of our earliest doom-leaning material.”

“Forgotten Days is us exploring what is natural to us,” says bass player/songwriter Joseph Rowland. “The songs tell me where I need to go when I write. We wanted to focus on songs that were visceral and enjoyable to play live – that our audiences would enjoy experiencing. We’re also getting back to more of the groovier and heavier elements of Pallbearer. Heartless is fairly uptempo and technical. This one is a little more open, it hammers you.”

“This record has a lot of thematic ties to our first record,” Rowland continues. “When we were writing Sorrow and Extinction, my mother was terminally ill. It’s been 10 years since she passed. It’s taken me all of this time to take a really good look at myself. While we were writing Forgotten Days, I knew, ‘Now is the time to sit down and begin to understand who I have become.’”

“Joe and I have always written lyrics separately,” adds singer/guitar player Brett Campbell. “But we always end up with lyrics that are connected by threads. I’m not sure why that is. Maybe it’s because we’ve been in close proximity for a long while. Between Heartless and Forgotten Days, we were home for an extended period of time. I think we finally had time to reflect. Memory is a big aspect of the new record. The passage of time. How things change as perspective changes. Was the past truly the way that you remember it at all?”

The Randall Dunn (Sunn O))), Earth, Johan Johannson) produced album was recorded at Sonic Ranch Studios in West Texas. Michael Lierly, drummer Mark Lierly’s brother, once again created the album’s artwork, crafting images that were roughly hewn yet heartbreaking in their expressive heft. The striking cover, by Michael Lierly, is the ideal foil to Pallbearer’s thick musical and lyrical melancholia.

“‘Under Control’ was written at a time when I was forming my political opinions,” says the band’s Stephan Di Mambro. He adds: “I realized that in reality, left and right are two sides of the same coin. They both lie and stretch truths but most importantly they both seek control over your subconscious thoughts. Social media just enhances this control as you can easily be caught in an echo chamber where all you hear is what you want to see. We wanted to create a video that sheds some light on the fact that you are being programmed every day, every time you look at your phone or turn the TV on.”

Sam Ermellini comments on the single:

“I believe that closer to the end is a great representation of our darker writing style. It’s a deep cut, with catchy riffs, fantastic keyboard work, great drums, and excellent bass lines. I think we really hit home with this one lyrically and sonically.  The writing of this song was particularly smooth. We wanted a track that was epic sounding! I personally wanted to have that Ozzy Osbourne feel, which I think it totally has.  It's definitely a 'must listen to' track off Beyond The Exosphere.”

Founded in the late 2000s, the band - bassist/vocalist Christian Di Mambro, keyboardist/guitarist/vocalist Stephan Di Mambro, percussionist Vito De Francesco, and lead guitarist/vocalist Sam Ermellini - have already established themselves as unquenchably imaginative, determined, and skillful on their first two full-length statements (2012’s eponymous debut and 2017’s Element Of Surprise) and prior EPs. As stellar as those records are, however, Pyramid Theorem’s forthcoming collection, Beyond The Exosphere, surpasses them in every respect.

Take, for instance, the wonderfully melodic, dynamic, symphonic, and heroic opening title track. It undeniably conjures Rush, Spock’s Beard, and Dream Theater, but it’s very idiosyncratic as well, with a level of performance, production, narrative, and songwriting quality - including fluid, emotional, and cosmic transitions from movement to movement - that many of the most established progressive metal outfits can’t match. It really is a tour-de-force of everything Pyramid Theorem has been working toward thus far, and at just under eighteen minutes in length, it deserves to be regarded as one of the greatest epic tracks of its generation.

“Under Control” offers a more concise slice of glorious density (with superb interplay between guitar and keyboard) whose 1980s-esque multilayered chorus is ripe for stadium sing-alongs. Afterward, “Freedom” is gruffer and more sinister, yet it still packs enough moving respites and inventive effects (namely, bells) to keep it satisfyingly flexible. Next, the penultimate “Closer to the End” works as a chameleonic ballad, juxtaposing flamboyant theatrics, hard-hitting intensity, and plenty of haunting atmospheric introspection with expert precision. Naturally, “Intonate” serves as a breathtaking finale that coats its brutal core with stirring vocal harmonies, empowering strings, calming acoustic guitar strums, and poignant piano motifs. Its larger-than-life jam fades away patiently during its final moments, leaving you with the sense of awe and catharsis that comes from completing a life-changing journey.

US heavy metal outfit Spirit Adrift have announced the release of their new record Enlightened In Eternity via Century Media Records, outside of North America on October 16, 2020.  With the release of the first single “Harmony Of The Spheres”, they are giving the world a first taste on what to expect on the band’s fourth studio album - nothing but a monument to the timelessness of heavy metal.

Nathan Garrett comments:

“Making a Spirit Adrift album is always intense. But Chained And Curse dealt with issues from my past, and Divided dealt with external issues, from more of a philosophical perspective. So there was a bit of a protective layer of detachment between the material and myself. On the other hand, when Marcus and I recorded Enlightened In Eternity, we were smack in the middle of a lot of intense emotional upheaval.  Hour to hour, minute to minute. Some days it took everything I had to keep working, particularly when it was time to record vocals. From a technical standpoint, things couldn’t have gone smoother. But from an emotional standpoint, it was brutal. The silver lining is that our hearts and souls are embedded into this record with a raw immediacy and urgency that’s unmatched by our previous material. I wrote the songs on Enlightened In Eternity before my life fell apart, and from the beginning I set out to make this our most uplifting and empowering album. I’m glad I did that, because ironically enough, these songs helped me keep going when things got bad. I’m proud of the work Marcus put in, I’m proud of these songs, and I’m proud of how we navigated the entire experience. This is the most challenging record I’ve ever made, and it’s my favorite record I’ve ever made. I hope it helps others the way it helped me.”

To celebrate today’s re-release of extreme progressive metal pioneers Into Eternity’s hard-to-find 1999 self-titled debut and their acclaimed 2008 concept album The Incurable Tragedy, the band has unveiled a visualizer for the rare track, “Silence Through Virtue", which appears on the newly-released CD and LP editions of their debut album.

The clip - designed by Raf Ortega of Ecliptic Visions (Ayreon, The Absence) - can be seen below:

In addition to “Silence Through Virtue”, Into Eternity - which has never previously been available on vinyl - also includes three bonus demo tracks, as well as newly-written liner notes by founding guitarist Tim Roth and two of his former bandmates.

Says Roth, “Thanks a million to M-Theory Audio for finalizing this dream of getting our debut album properly released! It has taken us over 20 years, but the time is finally here. Originally, our first CD only had nine songs on it. In 1999, we entered a local Battle of the Bands, and we ended up winning $1000 of recording time. With that money, we ended up recording ‘Silence Through Virtue.’ On this song, there are some brutally heavy riffs, plus some nice clean vocals over the top mixed in with some death vocals as well. At the time, I wanted to try to add a bit more expression in my clean vocals, and I love the Iron Maiden-influenced guitar harmonies toward the end. I think this song sums up our early sound as a band and really combines some of our best heavy metal elements."

Also out today is a first-ever vinyl release of the band’s 2008 concept album, The Incurable Tragedy, their second recording with dynamic vocalist Stu Block (now in Iced Earth). The record - which also features drummer Steve Bolognese (Ross The Boss, Witherfall, Death Dealer) - was written after cancer claimed the lives of Roth's father and two best friends, resulting in the most emotionally charged album of the band’s career. Commemorating its cancer theme, the album will be released on limited-edition (300 copies) lavender-colored vinyl.

“This was the darkest, most difficult record of our career, but looking back 12 years later, it was an important album for us,” Roth says. “At the time, there was incredible personal tragedy happening, which is why the album turned out as dark as it did. Still, I have so many great memories of this lineup touring the world together and playing all over Europe, Asia, Mexico, Canada and the USA. We'd be out touring on a death metal package and then we'd go right into a Hammerfall/Edguy Tour. There were no limits for us at the time. I hope every Into Eternity fan will enjoy revisiting this album.”

Seether return with the new album, Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum, out August 28 via Fantasy Records. Translating to “If You Want Peace, Prepare For War,” the album features 13 new tracks, a primal mix of euphoria and misery, undoubtedly some of the strongest material of Seether’s illustrious career.

Today, the band offer another preview from the new album with the release of the heavy new track, “Beg”. The adrenaline-fueled new rave-up is accompanied by another bold animated music video from noted Turkish director Mertcan Mertbilek (Santana, Ray Charles, Ravi Shankar, Elvis Costello) that can be seen below.

Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum, Seether’s eighth studio album, was produced by Morgan and engineered and mixed by Matt Hyde (Deftones, AFI) in Nashville from December 2019 through January 2020. The band is joined on the album by newest member, Corey Lowery (ex-guitarist/vocalist for Saint Asonia and Stuck Mojo) Morgan’s friend of 16 years, who also assistant-engineered the album. “Corey has a lot of experience and is an inspiring guitarist as well; he’s the older brother I’ve always wanted,” Morgan adds. Seether’s rock-solid rhythm section is bassist and founding member Dale Stewart, and drummer John Humphrey (who joined in 2003).

Welsh death metal vanguards, Venom Prison, have shared the crushing new single, "Daemon Vulgaris". The track was originally released in 2015 on their second EP, The Primal Chaos, prior to their acclaimed debut album. This updated version of the song is taken from their forthcoming Prosthetic Records release, Primeval, out on October 9 and available to pre-order here.

Discussing the song, the band explain, "Human cruelty can take many forms, from the daily almost unnoticed ways in which we hurt each other to atrocities like genocide and slavery. The capacity for such destructiveness is rooted deep within us. 'Daemon Vulgaris' depicts humanity as the evil force of destruction. Exploring our destructive impact on other species and the capacity of the planet to sustain life as we know it. “Wrong does not cease to be wrong because the majority share in it.” (Leo Tolstoy)."

The 11-track album will feature re-recordings of tracks from their early EPs, Defy The Tyrant and Primal Chaos, as well as two brand new tracks. The first track from Primeval is a re-working of "Defy The Tyrant", which is streaming everywhere now, and features an accompanying video which can be viewed below.

Since 2016, Venom Prison have gone from strength to strength; debut full length Animus catapulted them into the consciousness and record collections of discerning death metal fans the world over. Their follow up release, Samsara, solidified them as a serious force to be reckoned with in the world of metal, paving the way for a string of high profile shows and festival slots around the globe. On Primeval, Venom Prison revisit the earliest days of the band, capturing the same intensity and visceral energy they possessed from day one and adding an additional layer of sophistication to their sound by re-recording, re-mixing, and re-mastering those old favourites with producer Tom Dring in late 2019. Artwork is once again handled masterfully by Eliran Kantor.

Of their decision to revisit their earliest tracks, the band explain, “Primeval is a snapshot of the earlier days of Venom Prison, simpler times where we locked ourselves in a room for days on end to create the early incarnation of what would be our first collection of songs.  Our first release/demo Defy The Tyrant was subsequently born, and we never thought this would lead onto being picked up by Prosthetic Records or touring the world. This became a starting gun for touring and festivals in between the studio to write, including what would become The Primal Chaos.  Given the current climate and the global pandemic situation we felt it was appropriate to package together our early material so that it is presented in a form of how it was always intended. This is what you hear now. Our previous EP’s plus two new tracks to give you an idea of what is to come in future.  Our new chapter awaits, the grind must continue.”

Prog-metal supergroup The Progressive Souls Collective have revealed their new video "Fractional Emotion". The video is the first track to be issued from the band's debut album, Sonic Birth, set for international release on September 11th via Metalville Records. Sonic Birth is special in many ways. Florian Zepf, guitarist and the driving force behind The Progressive Souls Collective, was able to convince his international prog music colleagues Aquiles Priester (ex-Angra & Tony MacAlpine, drums), Conner Green (otherwise working full-time with Haken on bass), Kevin Moore (ex-Dream Theater, O.S.I., Chroma Key) in the area of loops and programming as well as Luis Conte (among others, he was the percussionist for Phil Collins) to work together on the album.

As a very special guest, keyboard maestro Derek Sherinian (Sons Of Apollo, ex-Dream Theater, and many more) had the honor to personally record all keyboard parts on the entire album. This gave the recordings a very special touch, not least in terms of virtuosity, sound design, and of course character. Florian met with Derek in his studio in Burbank, where they worked together on the album.

Vladimir Lalic, himself musically on the road with the Serbian prog metal band Organized Chaos and meanwhile more than an insider tip, took over the lead vocals. Vladimir is convincing because of his enormous vocal range, the vocal melodies, and his style. His extraordinary vocal parts are a figurehead for the whole album.

Epic melodic death metallers Nothgard recently released a brand new digital single, “Lightcrawler”. Geezer Butler (BLACK SABBATH), Biff Byford (SAXON), Gilby Clarke (GUNS N' ROSES), David Ellefson (MEGADETH), Frank Bello (ANTHRAX), Charlie Benante (ANTHRAX), Stephen Perkins (JANE'S ADDICTION) and Andrew Freeman (LAST IN LINE) are among the rockers who have reacted on social media to the passing of iconic bass player Pete Way.

The founder of UFO, WAYSTED and, more recently, THE PETE WAY BAND died earlier today (Friday, August 14) at the age of 69. He sustained life-threatening injuries in an accident two months ago but fought hard until finally succumbing to those injuries at 11.35 a.m. BST. His wife, Jenny, was at his side.

Way was a much-loved and highly regarded figure among rock fans, critics and fellow musicians alike. Best known for his work with UFO, Pete's energetic live performances were at the heart of the band's countless world tours. His melodic bass lines underpinned the catalog of enduring rock classics upon which UFO's reputation and legacy were founded. Pete's post-UFO work included collaborating with "Fast" Eddie Clarke from MOTÖRHEAD — the two putting together FASTWAY with HUMBLE PIE drummer Jerry Shirley — and playing bass for his longtime friend Ozzy Osbourne. He then put together his own band WAYSTED. Pete's keen ear for song arrangements have also seen him serve as producer for popular hard rock acts such as TWISTED SISTER and the COCKNEY REJECTS.

Pete had recently finished a solo album, "Walking On The Edge", with producer Mike Clink (GUNS N' ROSES' "Appetite For Destruction", among many more). He had a biography published, "A Fast Ride Out Of Here", in 2017, and an album, "Amphetamine", which is currently out on Cargo Records.

Way had dealt with a number of health issues in recent years. In 2016, he suffered a heart attack, two years after he was given the all-clear following a battle with prostate cancer with which he was diagnosed in 2013. Way was diagnosed during a routine check on his liver, which had been damaged over the years through hepatitis. The abdominal scan picked up the tumor on his prostate.

Pete is survived by two daughters, Zowie and Charlotte, and his younger brother, Neill.

Very sad to hear of the passing of Pete Way today. The "Strangers In The Night" live album is hands-down one of my all-time favorites, and for me the highlight of the UFO lineup of that day. Pete and his girlfriend actually came to see Megadeth on the Clash of the Titans tour at the Birmingham NEC Arena in 1990 where Dave Mustaine and I had a brief conversation with him just before we took the stage that evening. It's always impactful to know your heroes are in the audience for your show, the same way I was for his show with Waysted opening for Iron Maiden several years before at Irvine Meadows, CA. Pete's look, his style, and his simple but powerful bass lines were a highly influential force to my own playing. He will be dearly missed....RIP! #ufo #peteway #waysted

Rest In Peace #PeteWay. One of the coolest bass players!! So many great songs, go listen to UFO’s Strangers In The Night album if you’re not familiar. One of the best live albums of all time!!! I never saw Pete with UFO, but did see him with #Waysted opening for @ironmaiden in ‘87 in #Winnipeg! I was 17. It was killer!!! We got to know each other years later. This photo was taken in 2001, very late in the evening backstage while I was touring with @thevinceneil band. Left to right: @brentwoodsguitar, Pete Way, Jamie Hunting (another one of my all time fave bass players), myself and of course Vince leaning in front! We had a blast that night. Great memories!
