FIRSTBORNE Feat. CHRIS ADLER And JAMES LOMENZO: 'Roll The Dice' Lyric Video

FIRSTBORNE Feat. CHRIS ADLER And JAMES LOMENZO: 'Roll The Dice' Lyric Video

The official lyric video for the song "Roll The Dice" from FIRSTBORNE, the new band featuring Grammy Award-winning artist Chris Adler and fellow MEGADETH alum James LoMenzo, can be seen below.

FIRSTBORNE's self-titled debut EP marks the acclaimed drummer's first dedicated band release since his departure from MEGADETH and LAMB OF GOD.

FIRSTBORNE features Girish Pradhan on vocals and guitar, Myrone on guitar, LoMenzo on bass, and Adler on drums.

The FIRSTBORNE self-titled EP includes five songs and two lyric videos. The EP represents several years of dedicated introspection and refined effort to the idea of a heavy and positive message.

The track listing is as follows;

01. Primordial

02. Anthem

03. Roll The Dice

04. Apocalypse

05. Hunter Hunted

The debut EP from FIRSTBORNE is now available at Bandcamp and across all streaming services.

As might be expected, Adler chose his bandmates in this endeavor meticulously.

Recently, Adler shared the stage across the Middle East with LoMenzo in HAIL! Prior to that, LoMenzo and Adler orbited each other for years traveling together on tours crossing the globe. The connect was inevitable.

Adler and Myrone began collaborating in early 2019 after Myrone noticed Adler's e-mail address attached to a Bandcamp sales notification email. Adler had been a fan of Myrone's talent for years prior and as soon as they connected, it was game on.

A chance meeting in India, almost a second home to Chris after eight visits, was the spark needed to form the international group FIRSTBORNE and for Chris to return to the studio. Adler met and shared the stage with Pradhan during a six-week clinic tour of India in the fall of 2019. After the first show of the clinic tour, Adler immediately called Myrone, noting he'd "struck gold" in their search for a singer for the then-unnamed project.

Girish Pradhan is the glue that united FIRSTBORNE. Pradhan on vocals represents an almost unprecedented international collaboration.

FIRSTBORNE represents a community. The message speaks to no one being excluded. It's a soundtrack for all, meant to be a positive beacon in this dark time. The first single and lyric video, "Anthem", speaks directly to this.

Pradhan had this to say about it: "'Anthem' is about how governments use the people for their own benefit. Instigating and dividing communities against each other, using age-old concepts such as religion, race and caste. While the people fight amongst themselves, the ruling governments and opposition play scripted hands for their benefit. Unfortunately, many can't see that or even worse, give it a blind eye. How you speak against injustice is a personal choice. Some go to the streets while some use music and art. Injustice is turning a blind eye and ignoring the wrongs within our societies. However big or small of a contribution you make is irrelevant. What matters is that we all do our part — in our own way — and contribute to the whole."

Pradhan is an established and well-known recording and touring artist in India and resides in Bengaluru. His band GIRISH AND THE CHRONICLES made international headlines earlier this year with their new album "Rock The Highway" and music videos "Rock 'N Roll Is Here to Stay", "Identity Crisis" and "Rock The Highway".

Speaking on his experience creating with FIRSTBORNE, Myrone explains: "Every single part of this experience has been extremely surreal for me. Girish is one of the best metal vocalists on the planet, Chris is one of the most influential drummers of the last 25 years, and JLO can play anything from MEGADETH to John Fogerty to Motown and everything in between. I can't believe I get to share space on a .wav with them."

Myrone is a Los Angeles-based producer/guitarist who pioneered the "soft shred" genre. In the last six years, he has released seven albums and two EPs of instrumental guitar music and racked up millions of Spotify streams. In addition to his own recordings, he has collaborated with Rivers Cuomo (WEEZER), SZA, Little Boots, Michael Christmas and Deaton Chris Anthony. Most recently, Myrone was Guitar #1 in the L.A. production of "Rock Of Ages", the 29th-longest running show in Broadway history.

LoMenzo is a veteran touring/recording musician since his multi-platinum band WHITE LION in the 1980s. Lomenzo is one of the most in-demand rock bass players in the world. His list of credits includes WHITE LION, Zakk Wylde's BLACK LABEL SOCIETY/PRIDE & GLORY, MEGADETH, Jerry Cantrell, David Lee Roth, SLASH'S SNAKEPIT, LYNCH MOB, FREHEY'S COMET and more. Recently he's been the touring/recording bassist for the legendary John Fogerty and can be seen in the live concert film "John Fogerty : My Fifty Year Trip" recorded live at Red Rocks last summer.

LoMenzo had this to say about his collaboration within his new band, FIRSTBORNE: "I first met Chris in 2006 on MEGADETH's 'Gigantour'. I was playing bass with MEGADETH at the time. Watching Chris on that tour, I recall being struck by the creativity, speed and power of his drumming with LAMB OF GOD. In contrast, I found him to be a gentle, thoughtful soul. Years later, I had the opportunity to finally play with Chris, performing in the Middle East with the all-star metal band HAIL! We had a great time. At this time, Chris mentioned he was looking forward to exploring making all kinds of music. I suggested he keep me in mind. Next thing I know I'm being introduced to Myrone through a demo that Chris forwarded to me. I was immediately drawn to the music. Myrone's guitar is uniquely untethered to any one style. He's a brilliant and capable amalgam of classic rock, new and classic metal. Girish on top of all this had me stunned! A soaring, powerful voice that while uniquely his own, conjures images of the greatest singers of metal, blues and classic rock. His voice is a powerful, emotive vehicle to inform through his heartfelt and socially conscious lyrics. To my ear, the combination of all this musical talent is wonderfully unique and perfectly familiar. I'm very proud and excited for music fans to hear this new musical collaboration."

Adler added: "I've been incredibly fortunate in my creative endeavors. From the start, I sought out the best players I could find to work alongside. It's been an incredible journey that is clearly not over. Some things have changed. This may not be exactly what people expect from me right now, and I'm aware and embrace that. It's time for something new. I'm have a platform to present something important, true and collaborative. Creating FIRSTBORNE beckons cohesiveness as a mission statement. This is not about being mad all the time, egos or fabricating polarizing drama. 'This is right' is now my alarm clock. Girish, Myrone and James have the exact locker room mentality of 'kill 'em all! but let's make sure everyone is okay and having a kick-ass time' that I try and bring to everything I do. FIRSTBONE is the result of all of my experiences, both positive and negative, and I'm proud of what we are doing together."

Adler is a Grammy-winning American metal drummer from Richmond, Virginia. Chris founded LAMB OF GOD in 1994 and helped usher in what critics have dubbed the "New Wave Of American Heavy Metal." LAMB OF GOD's discography with Chris includes multiple gold records and platinum DVDs as well as five Grammy nominations.

Chris received a Grammy for playing drums on legendary thrash metal band MEGADETH's 2016 record "Dystopia". Chris also toured with MEGADETH in support of the record while juggling and occasionally combining tour dates with LAMB OF GOD.

Chris has collaborated and contributed to records with PROTEST THE HERO, TESTAMENT, THAIKKUDAM BRIDGE, Michael Angelo Batio and Ron Jarzombek.

In 2018, Chris created an artist management firm Kintsugi Management.

FIRSTBORNE is working exclusively with longtime friend Marwan Aylouche, a Boston-based industrial designer and digital artist.

FIRSTBORNE is:

Vocals: Girish Pradhan

Guitar: Myrone

Bass: James LoMenzo

Drums: Chris Adler

FIRSTBORNE will make its live debut in 2021, appearing at several international festivals and tours being scheduled/rescheduled now. A second EP has already been completed, with a fall 2020 release planned.

THE SWORD Releases Sludgy Cover Of RUSH's 'Working Man'

THE SWORD Releases Sludgy Cover Of RUSH's 'Working Man'

Texan riff masters THE SWORD have released the third and final installment of their three-song mini-series — "Conquest Of Quarantine" lockdown session — a bone-rattling cover of the RUSH classic "Working Man".

THE SWORD bassist Bryan Richie comments: "In the early 2000s, we were given a CD by one of Kyle's record store buddies, with SLUSH scrawled across it, and little did we know what a wild ride awaited us. This dude had taken his favorite RUSH songs and dropped the pitch control on his record player as low as it would go — taking these classic RUSH tracks and turning them into a C-standard sludge fest with the most air drumable drums!! Does it doom? Heck yes, it does. Enjoy our cover of the classic RUSH track 'Working Man' with a SLUSH-y spin."

The "Conquest Of Quarantine" lockdown session marks THE SWORD's first live performance together since the band went on hiatus in 2018. The group rolled out a track a week over the last three weeks — including its own inimitable spin on the T.REX classic "Children Of The Revolution" and a new rendition of its mammoth hit "Winter's Wolves" from its debut album, "Age Of Winters".

THE SWORD's triumphant live return from hiatus was scheduled to be with PRIMUS this summer as part of their mammoth "A Tribute To Kings" U.S. trek. But the pandemic had other plans. Not wishing to deprive fans of the live performances they've been waiting so long to see, THE SWORD got creative and so was birthed the "Conquest Of Quarantine" lockdown session.

Explains bassist Bryan Richie: "It was a lot of fun getting together with Kyle and Jimmy to record these tracks, and thanks to the miracles of modern technology, we were able to lay down a wicked session with JD all the way from North Carolina. Crank this from the comforts of your couch, 'Conquest Of Quarantine' brought to you with minimal overdubs and maximum rocking."

VINTERSEA Unveil Quarantine Playthrough Video For "Fiery Tongue"

VINTERSEA Unveil Quarantine Playthrough Video For "Fiery Tongue"

When the Portland, Oregon-based blackened progressive metal group Vintersea normally films a music video, the band typically does so in grand fashion, whether deftly capturing the darkened majesty of their native Pacific Northwest or filming in striking settings such as abandoned nuclear power plants.

While the group – whose latest video, “Befallen”, has received nearly a half million views on YouTube – is currently working hard to complete their next mini-epic, they recently also put the finishing touches on what they describe as a “quarantine playthrough video” for the Illuminated track “Fiery Tongue”.

Says bassist and videographer Karl Whinnery, “Most of our fans don’t know that we were just about to announce a huge summer tour as the world started to shut down. When we were able to get back together for the first time, I really wanted to capture something unique for our fans. We’re in the middle of preparing a huge music video/short film for release later this year, so for now, we went for something fun and simple.”

Adds guitarist Riley Nix, “Like millions of people around the world, we have been separated from our musical family for most of the year. Going months without getting together to play concerts, record, tour or make videos has been difficult for everyone in different ways. 'Befallen' helped a massive new group of people find our music, and we wanted to reach out to our friends and fans the best we could, from afar, to show everyone how much we love and appreciate everything they have done to keep us going during these past few months.”

“Fiery Tongue” is one of six epic tracks featured on Illuminated, which was released in September 2019 on CD, digital and limited-edition blue/white vinyl. The album was engineered and mixed by Gabe Johnston (Idle Hands) and mastered by Troy Glessner (Devin Townsend, Intervals), while the cover artwork was designed by Xenoyr of Australia's Ne Obliviscaris.

LUTHARÖ Unleash "Blood Lightning" Video

LUTHARÖ Unleash "Blood Lightning" Video

This past March, Hamilton, Ontario's Lutharö released their sophomore EP, Wings Of Agony. Now, the highly-motivated metalheads, led by vocalist Krista Shipperbottom, have filmed a video for their song "Blood Lightning".

The band explains the video and track: "The song 'Blood Lightning' is about having such an extreme passion for something so much so that it sets your soul on fire, for better or for worse. It is the endless struggle of putting your blood, sweat, and tears into something and receiving next to nothing in return. However, when you do catch a glimpse of your progress, it is enough to keep pushing forward even when you are constantly being beaten down and put to war."

"The music video for 'Blood Lightning' showcases all of the physical, emotional, and financial hard work that is put into pursuing your dreams in music. The shots taken to look like the set of a video shoot are meant to resemble the business aspect / behind the scenes work of being a musician, but also the high of performing live and seeing your visions come to life. While the single shots of each member in the middle of a storm are meant to display the emotional sacrifices and hardships that each individual goes through."

More innovative and imaginative than their debut EP, Unleash The Beast, Lutharö stepped out of their comfort zone for Wings Of Agony. Their catchy riffs, blazing solos, and vocals ranging from vicious growls to cleans are sure to send a chill down your spine, making them a well-rounded powerhouse of a band that brings beauty, aggression, and skill to the genre.

The cover art and tracklisting for Wings Of Agony can be seen below:

KING CRIMSON - The Elements 2020 Tour Box 2CD Out In September; Pre-Order Now

KING CRIMSON - The Elements 2020 Tour Box 2CD Out In September; Pre-Order Now

King Crimson's The Elements 2020 Tour Box 2CD will be released on September 4. Pre-order here. All orders of $50 or more at the Schizoid Shop automatically receive a free 'Islands' mask.

This 2CD history of King Crimson features many extracts and tracks appearing on CD for the first time, including many of the current lineup. Packaged in a digi-pack style book case with 24-page booklet, this set contains introductory notes by Robert Fripp & sleeve notes by Sid Smith.

While this seventh release in the Tour Box series is in spirit with the earlier releases, this is also a very different tour box to its companions, and one which, as it has to stand along and represent a tour that should have been (and will occur in 2021), it also stands slightly apart.

What themes and stories should a tour box created for a postponed tour tell?

As with previous tour boxes, the 2020 Elements box covers the full spectrum of Crimsoning, this one with music and line-ups from 1969-2019. Disc One represents a mostly live/mostly new-to-CD selection of material including 4 tracks taken from the 2019 tour. Disc Two, in keeping with the theme of Sid's notes, discussed below, presents pieces played occasionally by the current line-up - Exiles and Sheltering Sky, pieces from the studio - both King Crimson and Robert Fripp that were never completed, or were developed in different ways, material that never made it to a studio recording - The Errors, Dr. Diamond, Trees (extract), Guts on my Side, etc, all combine to present a convincing musical counter-history to the band.

The main sleeve notes by KC historian Sid Smith present a series of highly plausible "what if?" scenarios. Starting from 1969. his 2000 word essay traces a counterfactual history of the band had various tours not been canceled or postponed, had various members not quit or joined, following the routes and pathways a band called King Crimson could have followed had things turned out slightly different along the way.

SPELLBOOK Release "Amulet" Lyric Video

SPELLBOOK Release "Amulet" Lyric Video

Vintage proto-metal purveyors, SpellBook, have released a lyric video for "Amulet", featured on their upcoming debut album, Magick & Michief. Watch the clip below.

Cruz Del Sur Music will release Magick & Mischief on September 25 in CD, vinyl, and digital formats. Formerly known as Witch Hazel, SpellBook marries Black Sabbath, Pentagram and progressive rock for seven songs of entrancing classic metal.

During the writing process for what would eventually become Magick & Mischief, the members of York, Pennsylvania vintage proto-metal purveyors Witch Hazel realized there was no better time than the present to change their name. The idea had long rested on their mind, but the risks in changing a band’s name are numerous, if not painfully obvious. After all, since their 2007 formation, Witch Hazel independently released three studio albums, Forsaken Remedies (2012), Nocturnity (2015) and Otherwordly (2018), and had already generated buzz in the doom metal underground. But, with the confidence that the material they created for Magick & Mischief was the strongest of their career, Witch Hazel reached back into their past for the song “The Spellbook” from Forsaken Remedies and rebranded themselves SpellBook. Soon, a deal with Cruz Del Sur Music was signed, and the band started a new chapter that begins with the release of Magick & Mischief.

Recorded in May 2019 at Developing Nations with Kevin Bernsten, Magick & Mischief is the embodiment of a band going further than before, honing in on their obvious strengths as songwriters while exploring new territory in the sprawling classic metal and vintage heavy rock landscape. SpellBook, who feature vocalist Nate Tyson, drummer Nicholas Zinn, guitarist Andy Craven and bassist Seibert Lowe, followed a fairly simple approach when writing the album: There is no formula. There are no rules. Write what feels good. The best songs win. As a result, Magick & Mischief is a varied, adventurous body of work, reeling in Iron Maiden and proto-metal vibes on “Wands To The Sky” and “Ominous Skies”, an epic concept piece in the form of “Dead Detectives”, which appropriately recalls Alice Cooper at his theatrical peak, along with regular crowd-pleaser “Amulet”, which the band honed in the live arena before committing it to tape. Elsewhere, doom, acoustic guitars and sterling lead vocal work from Tyson are interwoven with ease, all the while staying true to SpellBook’s impeccable list of influences of Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Thin Lizzy, Blue Oyster Cult, KISS and Pentagram.

The album artwork was created by Chad Keith, who dutifully melded each of Magick & Mischief’'s songs in visual form to comprise the cover. It’s a fitting representation of an album that puts a fresh twist on a classic style.

HALESTORM Shares Official Video For 'Break In' Featuring EVANESCENCE's AMY LEE

HALESTORM Shares Official Video For 'Break In' Featuring EVANESCENCE's AMY LEE

The official music video for a reimagined version of the HALESTORM song "Break In", featuring a guest appearance by EVANESCENCE's Amy Lee, can be seen below. The new version of the track, which originally appeared on HALESTORM's second album, 2012's "The Strange Case Of..." , was recorded last October at a Nashville studio with producer Nick Raskulinecz, who had previously worked with both bands. The clip captures HALESTORM vocalist Lzzy Hale and Lee delivering an impassioned studio performance of the track.

The updated "Break In" will appear on "Halestorm Reimagined", a collection of reworked HALESTORM original songs as well as a cover of "I Will Always Love You", the love ballad made famous by Whitney Houston and Dolly Parton.

"Halestorm Reimagined" track listing:

01. I Get Off

02. Miss The Misery

03. I Am The Fire

04. Break In (featuring Amy Lee)

05. I Will Always Love You

06. Mz. Hyde

Lzzy and Amy performed a quarantine rendition of "Break In" this past May on Hale's Internet show "Raise Your Horns With Lzzy Hale".

Speaking about the collaboration, Lzzy told Amy: "What I love about dueting on that song with you is that it started out as as love song that I wrote for my significant other" — referring to HALESTORM guitarist Joe Hottinger — "but when we sing it together, it's this act of unity, especially with the two of us being women and being women musicians. It's like we have each other's backs. And the lyrics mean something completely different when I sing it [with you]."

Regarding the way the new version of "Break In" was recorded, Lzzy said: "We did it performance-style, literally next to each other in the same room — from beginning of song to end of song, singing with each other.

"I've never done anything like that, but especially with a female singer of your prowess."

Amy added: "Nick always gets the challenge and gets the most out of me… So he made us stand there in the room and sing it live together a bunch of times. What that really means is that editing, you couldn't use when you did something cool but I messed up; it would have to be that we both nailed it for it to make the cut. So to do it in that way was really challenging and it was really cool and it fits the song so well.

"I remember you saying, and we both were saying, when we were listening back, it's really weird, at times — I know my part, but you can't pick out whose voice that is in that one particular moment, 'cause we started matching each other, 'cause it was on the spot. It's really cool how that happens.

"It feels like a match. It doesn't feel like any one person is pulling the other person along a little bit or leading the train. It really felt like an evenly matched dance."

Lzzy and Amy originally performed "Break In" together in 2012 during the "Carnival Of Madness" tour, which was headlined by EVANESCENCE and featured HALESTORM in the support slot. At the time, Hale told Zoiks! Online about how the live collaboration came about: "It's funny. We had talked in the beginning of the tour, 'Oh, we should do something.' What would we do? Do we do a cover? Do I come out during her set? She came up to me, I think it was two weeks in and said, 'I'm obsessed with your song 'Break In' right now.' I was like, 'Thank you so much.' Then she said, 'I know all of your parts, all the backing parts and everything.' I was like, 'Sweet, that's awesome.' Then she said, 'This is going to sound really weird and please feel free to say no, but do you think I could come up during that song and sing it with you?' I'm, like, 'Of course. This is awesome.' We didn't have a whole lot of time to rehearse. We literally ran through it once before our show in El Paso, right before the doors opened. It was perfect. I told her, queue insane crowd noise. She was like, 'Oh, I don't know.' 'No, seriously — they're going to freak when you walk out on stage.' ... [And] they did. We couldn't hear each other for the first four lines."

Lzzy said in a recent interview with SiriusXM's "Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk" that she is using the downtime during the COVID-19 lockdown to keep working on material for HALESTORM's fifth studio LP.

HALESTORM has been writing and demoing material since January, with Hale saying she can record almost everything except drums in her home studio.

The next HALESTORM album will follow up 2018's "Vicious".

BENEDICTION To Release Scriptures Album In October; "Rabid Carnality" Music Video Streaming

BENEDICTION To Release Scriptures Album In October; "Rabid Carnality" Music Video Streaming

Legendary Birmingham, UK-based death metal legends, Benediction, will release their eighth full-length studio album, Scriptures, on October 16 via Nuclear Blast. You can pre-order the album in various formats here.

The first single, "Rabid Carnality", alongside the official music video is out today. Watch the clip below, and stream the single here.

Benediction are without a doubt one of the few remaining originals in the death metal scene and have achieved legendary status through various albums over the years. Until today they love what they do and always do their job without compromise - on record and on stage.

After more than 30 years in the business and 12 years after their last album Killing Music, Benediction are now back with one of their best releases and play once again in the Death Metal Champions League.

Scriptures (produced by Scott Atkins at Grindstone Studio in England), sounds 100% like Benediction: they blend death metal with a "fuck-off punk rock attitude", heavy metal riffing and a groove that hardly any other band can perform like this. Dave Ingram's "signature-growls" and powerful lyrics enhance the tonal framework so that you can hear after a few notes that you are listening to Benediction. As usual the tracks vary from slow and heavy to fast and intense, from shorter "in your face" numbers to epic masterpieces.

The artwork fits perfectly to Benediction and awakens an immediate desire in the devoted old school death metal fan to enjoy the new album. It was created by Birmingham artist Simon Harris and is reminiscent of the iconic artwork of the first albums. Without a doubt it will fit very well in every vinyl collection next to Subconscious Terror, The Grand Leveler or Transcend The Rubicon, and will be appearing on shirts and posters in the future.

All in all, Scriptures is an album from scratch, where everything is just as it should be. A jewel in the catalogue of a band that has been present from the very beginning and - freely based on one of their most popular songs "We Bow To None" - has always remained true to themselves and their fans.

Tracklisting:

"Iterations Of I"
"Scriptures In Scarlet"
"The Crooked Man"
"Stormcrow"
"Progenitors Of A New Paradigm"
"Rabid Carnality"
"In Our Hands, The Scars"
"Tear Off These Wings"
"Embrace The Kill"
"Neverwhen"
"The Blight At The End"
"We Are Legion"

SABATON Premier "The Attack Of The Dead Men" Music Video

SABATON Premier "The Attack Of The Dead Men" Music Video

Sabaton continue their global assault in support of their latest album, The Great War, with a new video clip of the album track, "The Attack Of The Dead Men".

"The video features Sabaton wearing gas masks while performing "The Attack Of The Dead Men" during our latest European tour. Little could we imagine that today a huge amount of the world’s population would wear masks daily thanks to this f***ing virus that has paralyzed our beloved metal community. We miss doing this, we miss you... no livestream can ever replace the feeling of being in the audience for a metal concert", comments Pär Sundström.

The song tells the story of Osowiec Fortress and a battle during World War 1 where the forces of imperial Germany used chlorine gas against the Russian defenders who had no protection against gas and had to wrap wet clothes around their faces in desperation. They were not expected to survive and that is why their counter attack was so surprising and successful. Wrapped in bloody cloth and coughing blood, they charged and the legend of the attack of the dead men was born.

DESOLATOR Share New Song “The Great Law Of The Dead” Feat. KARL SANDERS Of NILE

DESOLATOR Share New Song “The Great Law Of The Dead” Feat. KARL SANDERS Of NILE

Stockholm death metal force Desolator (pictured below) has unleashed a new song, “The Great Law Of the Dead”, from their upcoming album, Sermon Of Apathy. The Swedish quartet invited Nile’s Karl Sanders to guest on this track.

Desolator comments: “‘The Great Law Of The Dead’ is the album’s closing track, an almost nine-minute dive into Lovecraftian horror, featuring an awesome guest solo by Nile’s Karl Sanders. It’s one of Desolator’s most ambitious tracks so far, and it’s an honor to have one of our musical idols play on it.”

Sermon Of Apathy releases September 4th via Black Lion Records. Pre-order digipak CD /  digital formats at this location. Cover art and tracklisting are as follows:

"Portal Tomb"
"Adversarial Doctrine"
"Creatures Of Habit"
"Methods Of Self-Deception"
"The Human Condition"
"Vaticide"
"The Great Law Of The Dead"

"Portal Tomb":

"Creatures Of Habit":

Desolator have been treading the hallowed ground of the Swedish death metal scene since 2009. Through an early demo (Gravefeast, 2010), a split (Dark Revival/Mass Human Pyre, 2011), and especially the triumphant Unearthly Monument full length in 2013, the quartet paid proper homage to the buzzsaw sound of the Stockholm masters of yore. Having conquered the saw, the band chose to start to move in another direction with their 2016 EP Spawn Of Misanthropy. The four tracks begin to show a move away from the Stockholm sound with the addition of more dissonance and creative riffing akin to the work of early Morbid Angel and Immolation. Black Lion Records saw the promise of this sound in embryo, signing the band and re-releasing Spawn Of Misanthropy on CD in 2018.

On the forthcoming album, Sermon Of Apathy, the idea that Desolator began to birth in 2016 comes to full fruition. This sophomore album is a Frankenstein’s monster of death metal, fully sentient and fully functioning. The aggression of the Stockholm sound is tempered with creative and dissonant riffing reminiscent of the above named US death metal masters. This album does a masterful job of saluting key death metal styles of the past while drawing from those styles to create Desolator’s own path.

CARNATION Launch Music Video For New Song "Iron Discipline"

CARNATION Launch Music Video For New Song "Iron Discipline"

Belgian death metal band, Carnation, have released a video for their new single, "Iron Discipline", taken from the bands upcoming full length, Where Death Lies, out September 18.

Frontman Simon Duson comments: " "With 'Iron Discipline,' we unleash our second creation from the upcoming 'Where Death Lies' full-length. 'Iron Discipline' is the opening track of the album, and it takes you straight into the action. It showcases some of the most groove-oriented parts on the record, culminating into a piece that is bursting with power and heaviness. Older fans of the band should definitely find what they are looking for on this track.'Where Death Lies' in its entirety contains quite some variance. It is the result of our effort to write a balanced record with elements that both defined and refined Carnation. We hope this second step towards the release has peaked your interest even more."

Where Death Lies is out on September 18 via Season Of Mist. Pre-order the album in various formats here.

Where Death Lies was recorded from January to April 2020. The drums were recorded by Wojtek & Sławek Wieslawski at the Hertz Recording Studio in Białystok, Poland and the guitars, bass & vocals were recorded by Yarne Heylen at Project Zero Studio in Nijlen, Belgium.

DEE SNIDER, SEBASTIAN BACH And MIKE PORTNOY React To SPOTIFY CEO: 'What A Greedy Little Bitch'

DEE SNIDER, SEBASTIAN BACH And MIKE PORTNOY React To SPOTIFY CEO: 'What A Greedy Little Bitch'

TWISTED SISTER singer Dee Snider, former SKID ROW frontman Sebastian Bach and ex-DREAM THEATER drummer Mike Portnoy are among the musicians who have taken issue with Spotify CEO Daniel Ek's suggestion that artists need to be more prolific in the streaming age.

For years, Spotify has been criticized for offering paltry payouts to musicians and songwriters, with some claiming that the service gives major-label artists an unfair advantage via playlist placement and other promotional avenues.

In an interview published Thursday, Ek told Music Ally: "Even today on our marketplace, there's literally millions and millions of artists. What tends to be reported are the people that are unhappy, but we very rarely see anyone who's talking about… In the entire existence [of Spotify], I don't think I've ever seen a single artist saying, 'I'm happy with all the money I'm getting from streaming,' stating that publicly. In private, they have done that many times, but in public, they have no incentive to do it. But unequivocally, from the data, there are more and more artists that are able to live off streaming income in itself.

"There is a narrative fallacy here, combined with the fact that, obviously, some artists that used to do well in the past may not do well in this future landscape, where you can't record music once every three to four years and think that's going to be enough," he continued.

"The artists today that are making it realize that it's about creating a continuous engagement with their fans. It is about putting the work in, about the storytelling around the album, and about keeping a continuous dialogue with your fans.

"I feel, really, that the ones that aren't doing well in streaming are predominantly people who want to release music the way it used to be released," he added.

A number of notable artists have since fired back at Ek over his suggestion that artists need to churn out more content if they want to the same money they used to, with many in the music community saying that's just not how the creative process works.

"While you (the listener) benefit & enjoy Spotify, it's part of what's killing a major income stream for artist/creators," Snider tweeted. "The amount of artists 'rich enough' to withstand this loss are about .0001%. Daniel Ek's solution is for us to write & record more on our dime?! Fuck him!"

Bach also chimed in, writing: "When this guy puts out an album himself I will listen to him tell me about my albums."

Portnoy was equally critical of Ek's comments, tweeting: "What a greedy little bitch...it's bad enough that he's worth BILLIONS based on stealing and giving away other musician's music...but now he's suggesting we need to make MORE music for HIM to make more money!!! [email protected] and [email protected]

"I have 8 full album releases in 2020 & will make PEANUTS on them (if anything at all...) So his theory of artists needing to make MORE music to succeed is shit! [email protected] & [email protected]! Support THE ARTISTS DIRECTLY if you want them to be able to continue to make music..."

Last week, Spotify announced its financial results for the second quarter of this year, indicating ˆ1.9 billion ($2.2 billion) in revenues, up 13% year-over-year. Out of the ˆ1.9 billion, ˆ131 million ($154 million) came from advertising while the rest came from subscriptions. Despite increasing revenues, Spotify, however, recorded a sizeable loss of ˆ356 million ($419 million) during the quarter. In the last quarter, Spotify hit a high of 299 million monthly active users, 138 million of whom are paying subscribers via Spotify's premium tier.

JON ANDERSON 'Would Love To' Get All Surviving YES Members Together For A Tour

JON ANDERSON 'Would Love To' Get All Surviving YES Members Together For A Tour

Ex-YES singer Jon Anderson has told Meltdown of Detroit's WRIF radio station that he is still hopeful he can reunite with his former bandmates to mark the group's 50th anniversary.

"I'd love to get the whole of YES together one day in the next couple of years — everybody, 20 of us on stage, that kind of thing," he said.

"I had a dream about it about a month ago. I was there with my guitar. I went on first. I sang a couple of songs and said hello to everybody. And then Steve Howe's band came on, and then, after that, I joined the band, with Steve in the band, and sang 'Close To The Edge', and Rick [Wakeman] came on as well, and then Trevor [Rabin] came on, and we did 'Owner Of A Lonely Heart', and then we all did 'Awaken' and it was a beautiful moment."

Anderson co-founded YES in 1968 with bassist Chris Squire, and remained with the band until 2008, when YES replaced him with Benoit David, an Anderson sound-alike who previously fronted the YES tribute band CLOSE TO THE EDGE. David left YES in 2012 and was replaced by Jon Davison.

Last month, Howe told Rolling Stone that there is virtually no chance of the surviving members of YES reuniting for a tour.

"I don't think [the fans] should stay up late nights worrying about that," he said. "There's just too much space out there between people. To be in a band together or even to do another tour like 'Union' is completely unthinkable," referencing the group's 1990 "Union" LP and tour, which brought together the previous YES album's lineup (Jon Anderson, Chris Squire, Trevor Rabin, Alan White, Tony Kaye) and the then-ex-YES members' group ANDERSON BRUFORD WAKEMAN HOWE (Jon Anderson, Bill Bruford, Rick Wakeman and Steve Howe). "It was difficult when we went through that, particularly because of the personalities," Howe said. "I'm not saying any one person is to blame, but when you get a big hodgepodge like that together, it's pretty much a nightmare. We made a nightmare of possibly a good thing back in 1990. I don't think there is the stamina or the appetite for that kind of thing again."

Anderson, Wakeman and Rabin had started touring as ARW: ANDERSON, RABIN AND WAKEMAN in 2016 and then adopted the YES FEATURING JON ANDERSON, TREVOR RABIN, RICK WAKEMAN moniker shortly after the group's 2017 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction.

Howe last toured with Anderson and Wakeman in 2004.

YES has released over 20 albums across its career, including its self-titled debut in 1969, "Tales from Topographic Oceans", in 1973, and its last album, "Heaven & Earth", which came out in 2014.

GLENN HUGHES Will Keep Writing Music Until His Final Day

GLENN HUGHES Will Keep Writing Music Until His Final Day

In a brand new interview with the "Thunder Underground" podcast, legendary bassist/vocalist Glenn Hughes was asked if he will continue writing music up until his "final day." He responded (hear audio below): "I will. People ask me that question — not all the time, but they do ask that question.

"A good friend of mine, who you know of — I won't say who he is — but we've had a conversation about retirement. And I know a lot of people older than me that are still going — [Mick] Jagger and Robert Plant; friends of mine. They're still going 'cause they love music.

"If you are a musician who's a songwriter, you just continue to write," he added. "And that's what I do — I've been doing it for 50 years. But more so since I've been sober, for the last 28 years, I've been writing more proper songs, about recovery.

"In fact, I don't know if you know, but most of my work deals with the human condition and about, pretty much, the love factor and recovery and being free, and that's where I'm at."

Hughes also talked about the possibility of making new music with BLACK SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi, with whom he worked on 1986's "Seventh Star" (released under the BLACK SABBATH banner), as well as "Fused" and a collection of sessions tracks titled "The 1996 DEP Sessions".

"I speak to Tony once in a while, and we have a bit of a chuckle, 'cause every time we speak, we talk about doing some more work," Glenn said. "And all I can say is I know Tony's doing riffs at the moment back home; he's got his studio there.

"I've done three albums with Tony — I've done 'Fused', I've done 'DEP Sessions' and 'Seventh Star', so with Tony and I, it can happen overnight; it just happens really quickly," he continued.

"All I care about is his health, his great relationship with his wife and daughter and he's happy and he's healthy. But it wouldn't surprise me if Tony and I did something else. Is it on the cards at the moment? Not today, but you never know."

Known as the "voice of rock," Hughes spent key years of his career as the beloved bassist and vocalist of DEEP PURPLE, appearing on the classic albums "Burn", "Stormbringer" and "Come Taste the Band". More recently, he has been playing various hits and deep cuts from the DEEP PURPLE catalog, including "Burn", "Stormbringer", "Sail Away" and "Smoke On The Water", as part of his "Glenn Hughes Performs Classic Deep Purple Live" tour, which was launched in 2017.

In 2009, Hughes formed BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION with blues guitarist Joe Bonamassa, keyboardist Derek Sherinian (DREAM THEATER, SONS OF APOLLO) and drummer Jason Bonham (LED ZEPPELIN, FOREIGNER).

Last year, Hughes joined THE DEAD DAISIES as the band's new bassist and vocalist, replacing John Corabi (MÖTLEY CRÜE) and Marco Mendoza (THIN LIZZY).

Hughes's first album with THE DEAD DAISIES, "Holy Ground", will be released on January 22, 2021.

MOTÖRHEAD's PHIL CAMPBELL Joins SEPULTURA For 'Orgasmatron' Quarantine Performance (Video)

MOTÖRHEAD's PHIL CAMPBELL Joins SEPULTURA For 'Orgasmatron' Quarantine Performance (Video)

MOTÖRHEAD guitarist Phil Campbell recently teamed up with the four members of SEPULTURA to record a quarantine version of MOTÖRHEAD's "Orgasmatron". Check out video below.

Back in 2018, former SEPULTURA drummer Igor Cavalera said that he and his brother Max were inspired to form the band in 1984 because of MOTÖRHEAD. He told the "Start Making Sense" show on Beats 1: "It's one of those bands that me and my brother would go to our room and listen to cassettes on our boombox. They were one of the bands that we were, like, 'Wow, these guys are way ahead of their time,' because they were mixing up the energy of punk, metal and rock 'n' roll. The combination of those things really influenced me and Max to start SEPULTURA."

Igor went on to say that the name SEPULTURA — which in Portuguese means "grave" or "tomb" — was inspired by MOTÖRHEAD's song "Dancing On Your Grave" from 1983 album "Another Perfect Day".

"I remember me and Max were 12 or 13 and we told our grandma, 'We've got a band,'" he recalled. "Grandma said, 'Oh, that's cool. What's the name?’ and we're, like, 'SEPULTURA.' She was like, 'That's the worst name,' and I just looked at my brother and we're, like, 'Yeah, we're on a good path here.' She did the sign of the cross and we were, like, 'Yes that's a good name,' and then we kept it."

SEPULTURA's latest LP, "Quadra", was released on February 7 via Nuclear Blast Records. It is a concept effort created at Sweden's Fascination Street Studios with renowned producer Jens Bogren.

SEPULTURA comprises vocalist Derrick Green, guitarist Andreas Kisser, bassist Paulo Xisto Pinto Jr., and drummer Eloy Casagrande.

DEVIN TOWNSEND Covers 1958 DAVID SEVILLE Classic "Witch Doctor" (Streaming)

DEVIN TOWNSEND Covers 1958 DAVID SEVILLE Classic "Witch Doctor" (Streaming)

Days after revealing some details on his forthcoming album, Lightwork - calling it "strange, abstract, meandering and weird" - Devin Townsend has released a cover of the 1958 classic "Witch Doctor". No explanation given, none needed; this is Devin. Check it out below.

"Witch Doctor" was written and performed by Ross Bagdasarian under his stage name David Seville. It became a #1 hit in 1958 and rescued Liberty Records from near-bankruptcy. The song peaked at #1 on the Billboard Top 100, the predecessor to the Billboard Hot 100. It was considered a major surprise hit on the chart, where it became Seville's first #1 single and stayed in the position for three weeks. The single also peaked at #1 on the Billboard R&B chart.

In a series of Twitter updates, found here, Devin Townsend has revealed some details of the new album he has been working on since May:

"I think I’m writing an album, unexpectedly...called Lightwork that is abstract and stream of conscious. Still significantly far away from anything, but it’s determinedly taking shape. It’s been odd, though, as every record is a reflection of the time it was conceived, and this is clearly a weird time. It’s strange, abstract, meandering, and weird. If I try to curb it and write something more disciplined, it would be a dumb rehash of stuff I’m clearly bored of. So I follow this where it wants to go.

Almost seems like it would make sense for it to be a continuous, shifting, colourful beast as opposed to a collection of songs, more like songs in a highly elaborate and sort of alien stream of conscious: no real beginning or end. But regardless: as much as I have tried to shift my motivations from this weird collection of work to something more ‘palatable’ it seems clear that this is what’s in my path now, so I’m going to finish it in the way that it insists. I suppose considering the strange unique intensity of this period, it makes perfect sense when I hear it.

Anyways: the next album, unexpectedly, will be called Lightwork and though it’s still being discovered, it’s a weird, alien sounding, effervescent , sunny load of oddness. Visually, I see a weird kind of muted Winnie The Pooh type landscape with endless processions of characters, objects, people, creatures, etc. wandering from one side of the page to the other, an endless parade of dissimilar things, and just kind of watching them go by."

BRIAN MAY Joins NUNO BETTENCOURT, STEVE VAI, ZAKK WYLDE, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN And TOSIN ABASI For 'Bohemian Rhapsody' Jam (Video)

BRIAN MAY Joins NUNO BETTENCOURT, STEVE VAI, ZAKK WYLDE, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN And TOSIN ABASI For 'Bohemian Rhapsody' Jam (Video)

EXTREME guitarist Nuno Bettencourt was joined by his "Generation Axe" tourmates — Steve Vai, Zakk Wylde, Yngwie Malmsteen and Tosin Abasi — along with QUEEN's Brian May for a six-guitar performance of QUEEN's timeless classic "Bohemian Rhapsody" as part of AXS TV's "At Home And Social With Nuno Bettencourt & Friends" special. Video footage of the performance can be seen below.

"At Home And Social With Nuno Bettencourt & Friends" aired this past Monday (August 3) and benefited the Music Forward Foundation's Crew Nation initiative, raising funds and awareness for the touring and venue crews who are vital to the live music experience and have been negatively impacted by the shutdowns resulting from COVID-19.

In the spring of 2016, Vai, Malmsteen, Wylde, Bettencourt and Abasi teamed up for a North American tour called "Generation Axe", in which the five musicians shared a backing band and performed together in addition to playing individual sets. A year after their successful inaugural tour, the five guitarists reconvened for an 11-city tour of Asia that included a stop in Beijing, China. Select performances from that April 2017 concert appeared on a live recording, "Generation Axe - The Guitars That Destroyed The World: Live In China", which was released in June 2019 via earMUSIC.

Vai said the idea behind "Generation Axe" was "to create a seamless show with one backing band and five completely accomplished and astonishing guitarists that take to the stage in various configurations, performing some of their solo music and merging together as cohesive co-creators of lushly orchestrated guitar extravaganzas."

Vai described "Generation Axe" as "pure controlled chaos." "My favorite thing about 'Generation Axe' is the tour bus," he said. "Between the hours of 1 a.m. and 7 a.m., when we're all hanging out in the lounge just rapping. I wake up in the morning [and] my jaw hurts from laughing so much. These guys, they're out of their minds."

NEIL YOUNG Sues Donald Trump For Illegal Usage Of His Music "For A Divisive Un-American Campaign Of Ignorance And Hate"

NEIL YOUNG Sues Donald Trump For Illegal Usage Of His Music "For A Divisive Un-American Campaign Of Ignorance And Hate"

Widespread reports indicate that veteran rocker Neil Young is suing Donald Trump’s campaign for alleged illegal usage of his music at a rally.

According to articles published by The Globe And Mail and the BBC, Young sued President Donald Trump’s re-election campaign on Tuesday, August 4th for copyright infringement, saying he doesn’t want his music used as a theme song for a “divisive un-American campaign of ignorance and hate.”

The Grammy-award winning Canadian-born musician filed the lawsuit through his lawyers in Manhattan federal court, seeking up to $150,000 in statutory damages for each infringement. Young cited repeated use of two songs: "Rockin’ In The Free World" and "Devil’s Sidewalk". The campaign has used the tunes numerous times at rallies and political events, including on June 20 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the lawsuit said.

Young said he was not suing to "disrespect the rights and opinions of American citizens, who are free to support the candidate of their choosing,” the lawsuit said. "However, (Young) in good conscience cannot allow his music to be used as a ‘theme song’ for a divisive, un-American campaign of ignorance and hate."

Young first complained about the use of the 1990 single "Rockin’ In The Free World" in June 2015, when the song accompanied Trump’s announcement of his presidential campaign, according to the lawsuit.

DIE KRUPPS Teams Up With Ex-MANOWAR Guitarist ROSS THE BOSS On THE STRANGLERS Cover

DIE KRUPPS Teams Up With Ex-MANOWAR Guitarist ROSS THE BOSS On THE STRANGLERS Cover

Industrial metallers DIE KRUPPS have joined forces with former MANOWAR guitarist Ross "The Boss" Friedman on a new single, "No More Heroes", which has just been unleashed on the world via Cleopatra Records.

Jürgen Engler's industrial behemoth DIE KRUPPS is considered one of the pioneers of EBM and industrial metal, formed in Germany's capital city of Düsseldorf in 1980. Meanwhile, that very same year, Friedman, fresh from his stint with influential punk band THE DICTATORS, founded MANOWAR on the other side of the Atlantic in Auburn, New York. Both Engler and Friedman have enjoyed long and illustrious careers since their auspicious beginnings, and now the two have come together for a once-in-a-lifetime collaboration.

The song they perform is the enormously significant title track from the 1977 studio album by British rock champs THE STRANGLERS, which THE DICTATORS supported on their "No More Heroes" U.K. tour. The track, which name checks several recently passed historical figures, is a fitting tribute to the also recently passed STRANGLERS keyboardist Dave Greenfield, one of the last heroes of British rock, who died in May of this year from complications related to COVID-19.

Engler had this to say about the single: "As a longtime DICTATORS fan, it’s an honor to have Ross on board for this collaboration.

"It has been a sad year for music. Too many greats have passed. 'No More Heroes' seemed like the perfect song to pay tribute to them. And what better way to do it than joining forces with Ross The Boss! No shit, now rock! To the hilt!!"

The single will be featured on a forthcoming full-length effort from DIE KRUPPS, to be released in 2021.

Stone Sour have released a demo version of "A Rumor Of Skin", which is available for streaming below.

Guitarist Josh Rand states: "'A Rumor Of Skin': The first of the ‘Personality Voices’; this is essentially the inner loathing. But strangely enough, it shows the kind of childlike depression that is romantic and therefore cherished."

PRIMAL FEAR - Metal Commando Worldwide Chart Entries Revealed: "Thank You To Our Loyal Fans For Keeping The Faith"

PRIMAL FEAR - Metal Commando Worldwide Chart Entries Revealed: "Thank You To Our Loyal Fans For Keeping The Faith"

Primal Fear recently released their highly anticipated 13th studio album, Metal Commando, which has entered charts worldwide, with their highest entries ever and six Top 10 positions.

Mat Sinner comments: "Yes, we were convinced that we’d written and recorded a great album, but the fans always have final word. We are totally overwhelmed by the feedback and the positive messages we’ve received! Unbelievable! Thank you to our loyal fans for keeping the faith and thank you to everybody in the team who supported us to make Metal Commando this huge success! Now the only thing missing is to get back on the stages of this world! Thank you!"

The title of the album is self-explainatory - Metal Commando contains 110% Primal Fear and is full to the brim with their signature power and energy.

In celebration of the release, last week the band has issued the new single and video "Hear Me Calling". Watch the clip below.

Bassist Matt Sinner comments: "The special thing about 'Hear Me Calling' is, that we are combining the vibes of the first PF albums with the new Primnal Fear of 2020. It's great, because Tom (Naumann) was a part of the song-writing and the basis of the song was made in my studio. Ralf (Scheepers) made the lyrics, perfectly interpreting all the emotions and with a really strong chorus. Far away from home, in a shady plane somewhere between Peru and Bolivia, thinking about home... a strong combination of powerful guitar riffs, awesome melodies, groove and a great hook!"

Metal Commando was produced by Mat Sinner and mixed by Jacob Hansen - an experienced dream-team. The album will contain 11 tracks.

Tracklisting:

“I Am Alive”
“Along Came The Devil”
“Halo”
“Hear Me Calling”

METALLICA's LARS ULRICH Has Been Having 'Movie Nights' With His Wife And Kids While In Quarantine

METALLICA's LARS ULRICH Has Been Having 'Movie Nights' With His Wife And Kids While In Quarantine

JANE'S ADDICTION frontman Perry Farrell and his wife Etty Farrell talked to METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich as part of Lollapalooza's Lolla2020, a free four-night broadcast event which took place on the original dates of the Chicago-based festival, Thursday, July 30 through Sunday, August 2. You can now watch the chat below.

Speaking about how he and his wife and kids have been spending their coronavirus downtime, Lars said: "One thing we've been doing, which is great, is we've done 'movie night' classic cinema that I feel, as a parent, that the kids should see and experience. The go-to phrase was you're not allowed to challenge anybody else's choice, so when you have two kids that they have to see 'Y Tu Mamá También' or 'Amores Perros' or other all-time classics, it's just a great thing, I think, for the educational part of their upbringing."

Lars is quarantining at his house in Northern California with wife Jessica Miller and sons Myles, Layne and Bryce.

Lars had Myles and Layne with former wife Skylar Satenstein, and Bryce with "Gladiator" actress Connie Nielsen.

Ulrich and Miller got engaged in July 2013 and married two years later. It is the third marriage for Lars, who was previously married to Debbie Jones and Satenstein.

In early May, the four members of METALLICA overcame social distancing to record a new version of their song "Blackened", with each member separated in his own home. The split-screen video was posted to the band's social media channels.

METALLICA has been largely out of the public eye since last fall when the band canceled an Australian tour and announced that frontman James Hetfield was returning to rehab for the first time since 2002 to battle his addictions.

In March, METALLICA announced that its South American tour, which was originally planned for April, has been postponed until December. In addition, the band's appearances at five Danny Wimmer Presents-produced festivals in May, September and October have been canceled: Epicenter in Charlotte, Welcome To Rockville in Daytona, Sonic Temple in Columbus, Louder Than Life in Louisville and Aftershock in Sacramento.

Relapse Records has announced the signing of Wolves In The Throne Room. The Olympia, Washington based band is currently working on a new album to be released in 2021. More news about the album will be made available over the months to come.

Wolves In The Throne Room comment on the signing: “We are proud to announce our collaboration with Relapse records. Since the release of Thrice Woven, the band has toured relentlessly across the globe with titans of metal such as Behemoth, At the Gates, Dimmu Borgir, and Amorphis.

In early 2021 the band will be releasing their seventh full-length album in collaboration with Relapse Records (North America) and Century Media (all other territories.)

Watch METALLICA Perform 'Moth Into Flame' From 'S&M2' Live Album And Video

Watch METALLICA Perform 'Moth Into Flame' From 'S&M2' Live Album And Video

Video footage of METALLICA performing the song "Moth Into Flame" from the upcoming "Metallica And San Francisco Symphony: S&M²" release can be seen below.

METALLICA and San Francisco Symphony's September 6 and September 8, 2019 "S&M²" concerts were historic on multiple levels: They served as the grand opening of San Francisco's Chase Center, reunited the band and Symphony for the first time since the 1999 performances captured on the Grammy-winning "S&M" album, and featured the first-ever symphonic renditions of songs written and released since those original "S&M" shows.

The sold-out concerts were rapturously received by the 40,000 fans who traveled from nearly 70 countries, as well as the media: Rolling Stone raved "the group proved that anything was possible," Variety noted an atmosphere "buzzing with excitement," while the Mercury News witnessed "a concert that fans will be talking about for decades to come," and Consequence Of Sound hailed "a true celebration of METALLICA and their musical prowess."

On August 28, "S&M²" comes to life once more with the release of "Metallica And San Francisco Symphony: S&M²". "S&M²" will be available in a staggering array of formats, ranging from a digital album on all leading streaming outlets, to 4LP vinyl, 2CD, DVD and Blu-ray versions, to a limited edition color vinyl 4LP + 2CD + Blu-ray Deluxe Box featuring sheet music, guitar picks, poster and more, all the way up to a Metallica.com exclusive Super Deluxe Box, limited to 500 copies, each featuring actual sheet music used by the Symphony during the shows and hand-signed by all four band members (in addition to including everything in the Deluxe Box). With this long-awaited Blackened Recordings release, "S&M²" can be fully experienced by others beyond those who squeezed into the Chase Center over those two unforgettable evenings.

"S&M²" is a landmark release in the METALLICA catalog, both sonically and visually. Produced by Greg Fidelman with James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich, the "S&M²" live album captures more than two and a half hours of James, Lars, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo joining forces with the nearly 80-strong San Francisco Symphony, legendary music director of the orchestra Michael Tilson Thomas, and conductor Edwin Outwater. The concert film is a brand-new edit done by Joe Hutching ("Through The Never") and both the audio and visuals have been taken to the next level from the October 2019 theatrical version that played in over 3,700 cinemas worldwide.

The three-hour concerts were split into two parts and included a rendition of "Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth)" from METALLICA's debut album, "Kill 'Em All", performed as a solo by the Symphony bassist Scott Pingel in tribute to METALLICA's late bassist Cliff Burton.

Ulrich told Kerrang! magazine: "The 'Anesthesia' bass solo was incredible. The way the fans reacted to that was goosebump-city. I loved the dare of playing 'Iron Foundry'. I loved revisiting songs we don't play so often like 'The Outlaw Torn' and 'The Call Of Ktulu'.

"I loved how Edwin brought one sort of dynamic when he was conducting the more rock stuff, and how Michael Tilson Thomas — the maestro, the elder statesman of his world — brought in some different pieces and encouraged the fans to understand where the symphonic and rock worlds overlap.

"Most of all, though, the fact that there was no barricade stood out. When was the last time you went to a rock show of that size without one? What does that barricade do? What does it mean? It's a safety thing, but in essence it's something that separates people. I loved just being able to walk out with the fans. At one point, I leaned back and let myself go into their embrace. That was a great moment."

"S&M²" is available for pre-order now, preceded by the "S&M²" versions of "All Within My Hands" and "Nothing Else Matters", both now available across digital platforms.
